I genuinely cannot describe how deeply DEVASTATED I am about riz being the only one who can take stress tokens for the others. Yes fig is a protector and will fight endlessly for her friends and I love that about her but there is something about the way riz loves his friends. It’s a more subtle kind of love, but just as relentless and passionate and he will take any burden for the people he cares about and bear the weight of it on his shoulders so they don’t have to deal with it without any hesitation. i have spilled so much ink about gawyn but really i only need 2 passages to explain why he is Like That

like yeah, no wonder he does what he does in AMOL. people will be like "gawyn is so stupid for not thinking about the fact that his death would hurt egwene" as if he's being maliciously stupid and careless, when in fact, he has such little self-worth that he genuinely does not consider himself a valuable human being whose loss would impact anyone or anything. his life given before hers. a living sword. this has been his mindset since toddlerhood and nobody ever noticed it enough to try and counteract it. gawyn is exactly what rand would have been like at the last battle if he hadn't had a mental health intervention.

Shin and Midori are almost the only characters in yttd that have a whole scene dedicated to them messing with someone’s PTSD

It’s a really good parallel and shows just how messed up Shin’s actions were and how he ended up acting more like Midori even after he stopped trying to. The only person that went as far as Shin did was an actual cultist serial killer and one of the people responsible for the death game happening in the first place

It also highlights their differences because of how and why they do what they do. Shin does it because he thinks he’s justified, and it’s also an impulsive decision made right after Kanna is killed. He’s not there to laugh at Sara when she finds the Joe AI, we don’t even know how he feels about the whole thing after the fact (I don’t think giving Sara amnesia was an intended consequence. I wonder how he reacted when he found out). But Midori makes a whole show out of messing with Keiji, and he had to have planned the whole thing in advance to make the Mr. Policeman doll. He also doesn’t hide behind revenge or a greater good, he just torments people for fun

It really shows how Shin is just that close to being on Hiyori’s level, but he’s not there yet, and the scales could be tipped to either side depending on what happens next

#I don't think shin messing with the joe ai makes him irredeemable but it's still horrible and gets more horrible the more I think about it #anyway I'm obsessed with the idea of Shin getting a reality check from Midori praising his cruelty #we'll likely never get that but I can imagine Sou going on a whole speech about how he's just So Proud of what Shin did with the Joe AI #he truly has learned a lot. i will literally never understand when a character gets hate for being ‘overdramatic’ or highly emotional because like. i live for that shit. i fucking love when a character has a strong emotional response to a relatively ‘minor’ thing i love when characters cry easily and frequently i love when characters are loud and ‘annoying’ i live for drama. if a character is frequently hated on by fans for being annoying there is a 9/10 chance that character is one of my faves. no i dont think my neurodivergence has anything to do with this
