With it being #HungerActionMonth, I thought it would be fitting to highlight a certain organization that's actually doing good. Feeding America is a nonprofit designed to provide meals for the less fortunate in America. The organization is the largest nonprofit dedicated to hunger relief in the U.S. They own and operate 200 food banks and 60,000 (!!) food pantries and meal programs nationwide. Their operations include Mobile pantries, Drive-Thru pantries, Senior food programs, Summer meal programs for students, school pantries, and Kid's Cafes where children have access to meals after school, on the weekends and during the summer. Along with all that Feeding America does, they are partnered with multiple media organizations including Disney/ABC and others to spread hunger awareness. Additionally, they have their own Feeding America Twitter account. Where they share stories of people doing good in their communities, shed light on hunger statistics in the U.S., and provide more fortunate people an opportunity to make change in their communities. As far as basic metrics go, the Feeding America Twitter account is verified and has nearly 500,000 followers, but only draws about 20-30 likes on their posts. Their content messaging is good, and their audience seems to be growing, but their follower interaction is almost nonexistent. It's almost as if the tone of their posts is not inciting the action that they hope to. But how much more can they say for people to start caring? The website and Twitter account alone provide enough chilling statistics for the sheer scope of the issue to set in on me. However, the average follower seems unmoved. In order to improve this, perhaps Feeding America could include general AND specific instances of situations where people are struggling. A call to action of sorts. For instance, on their website they show that of families with low income, those families spend 1/3 of their budget on food. Maybe for people who don't know that could seem excessive but not truly understand the gravity of the situation. Which is when they could provide a real-life example of a person or family who is struggling. Also, adding a hyperlink to where people can directly donate could be beneficial to raising funds. Potentially creating other social media accounts as well could increase the reach of the movement. To potentially increase the insights on their page they could utilize hashtags and tag other accounts in their posts. At the head of this post linked the Feeding America website and their Twitter account.

We serve over 300 Senior families of age 55 and older who are 🔸marginal in economic status, 🔸suffering from multiple chronic illnesses, 🔸living alone or with an aged spouse, 🔸caring for disabled spouse, siblings or for their grand kids and EVERY day is a challenge. 💔ADD in the Pandemic, the fear of catching COVID-19, the economic stress, the isolation, loss of jobs, lack of transportation, food hard to get and costly...... 💔OH My!
