That’s why people should stay away from sm especially after a Flash episode 😆. Too much drama and people who overreacting. This was a good episode. This episode we got Iris and the SF bonding over their love for Barry. Iris wanting to share some things about Barry to the SF. That woman knows her man inside and out. I love getting these little peaks into their lives, this time we get the BBB
Yes! Like the episode was not my favorite for sure, but it was a fun, heartfelt episode, and it was really lovely seeing Iris and SF Nora bond over their love for Barry. I love how those scenes demonstrated how deeply Iris understands Barry.
And yes, I love hearing tidbits about Westallen’s domestic life together, this time with BBB.

If the writers wanted to demonize Iris and put more baggage on Candice for playing Iris West, this would surely be one way to do it.
So many writing errors are present here, and it would be a challenge to unpack them all, but I’ll try to keep it brief:
Iris isn’t bothered that Nora worked with Thawne? Yikes. This is going to whiplash on Iris so badly. And clearly, according to the promo, it is wrong. There is Iris, at Iron Heights in front of Thawne’s cell, beseeching Nora to get away from Thawne. Obviously, she doesn’t think Thawne needs to influence her child, her and Barry’s child. But you cannot tell that to racist fanboys and fangirls, who viscerally hate Iris and frequently bubble over with that venom for no reason at all.
The Insecure Girlfriend/Wife archetype. You know the kind of writing where the girlfriend is pouty and upset because her boyfriend won’t “open up” or “share” about all the life-altering burdens he is carrying on his shoulders. Alone. This is outdated and regressive. This leads to Iris ...
Failing to Acknowledge Facts. Iris, I love you and will forever be a proud member of the IWDS. But girl. Barry didn’t walk into the Speedforce at the end of S3 to take a pre-wedding vacay. Did you not notice that said entity was tearing up Central City, being all extra and striking people with lightning? Either Barry paid his penance or Central City would have been a Black Hole. And girl, you SPOKE TO the Speedforce iteration of Nora Allen. It was not an invitation. Barry did not leave you. Barry was being apprehended, tried, convicted and locked up.
Flashpoint. Please leave Barry alone about this, already. Not just Iris, but everyone. He was at the lowest point of his life, crushed by grief and despair. And the Flashpoint/Paradox episodes were rife with inconsistency and logic holes, so much so that even a Forbes writer pointed out one in particular. Personally, it is only dogmatic comic canon that Nora’s death was necessary to keep the world together. Has there ever been a plausible, credible or sustainable connection to things going wrong in Season 3 because of Flashpoint -- other than “just because?” Everything that Barry was blamed for in that season was retconned away or forgiven, so I’m personally tired of hearing about it. Oh, about John Diggle Jr.; please explain to me how Nora’s survival connects with John Diggle shooting male versus female swimmers on any given day and then we can have a conversation about why Lila should be perpetually pissed at Barry. The need to make the hero look like a dunderhead on his own show doesn’t count.
Barry was a knucklehead. This time, the fandom is split on whether Barry’s decision was an “about damn time” moment where he starts acting like a leader, or selfish and emotional. Honestly, he was right to send Nora home. But he was also written terribly, not looking into her story for himself, always being blindsided and outsmarted by everyone around him. Barry Allen, genius? Have we seen him lately? Also, like Barry’s other decisions, this was poorly thought out, impulsive and emotionally driven. It will have consequences. Consequence #1: Where do we find Nora after this? Not figuring out how her ‘Flashpoint’ has changed Central City or her relationship with Iris. No. Back to Thawne, asking for help on a new speedster trick -- the very thing that made her father so angry in the first place. The reason this show doesn’t need strong villains is because the hero keeps creating problems that get in his way.
As it stands now, Iris is the only character on the show that consistently draws irrational, blinding rage from fanboys and fangirls all over the world. Particularly white racist American fanboys and Snowbarry crazies still predicting a WestAllen breakup and romance between Barry and Caitlin, like those prophets of doom who keep changing the date for the end of days. If I’m totally honest, fanboys from Asian countries with INTENSELY misogynistic and anti-Black cultures, viscerally HATE Iris and they go into Candice’s SM mentions relentlessly with abusive comments. Constantly wishing her character dead and often harassing Candice personally. Over something her character said two years ago!! But Iris being unbothered by Nora working with Barry’s “arch nemesis” and lying about it for months? This just reloaded their quivers, stupid writers!
I know that the CW is known for teen angst. Teen melodrama and blah, blah. But aren’t a significant portion of its viewers in their late 20s and 30s by now? Some are grown with kids of their own and some of the recappers on SM have salt & pepper in their beards. In the era of peak TV, streaming content and roles for women and for Black women that have evolved, TV writing has to be smart or your show won’t make it. Tension can be done in a smart way. Arguments can make sense, instead of being muddied with bonkers logic from previous eras when TV and women characters were weak.
Which brings me to my next point: This wouldn’t have happened unless Black women writers or other women of color were in the writing room. Maybe Barry and Iris would have discussed sending Nora back, and maybe people would say that’s not dramatic or exciting enough. But isn’t there a meta serial killer out there, still? This is unfolding over a single day (a looong day!) But in terms of the story itself, Cicada needs to be dealt with and then we can deal with Nora’s secret. But they’ve chosen to suspend the Cicada storyline so that we can waste our time on Snow Family troubles, where the anchor character is sure to be retconned -- again -- and the “actress” to delivers her lines struggles and twitches through her efforts to make us care.  Black girls who follow shows like this are smart, you hear me? They sniff out continuity errors, lapses in logic and they could have made this so much better.
Enjoy Candice and Grant’s performances. I will. For them, it’s a day at work. Well, for Grant. But Iris haters who cannot forgive Candice for being a Black woman adored by the white male lead have more reasons to hate her, and the writers just handed it to them.

As much as your anons like to blame Todd, he's the only one that's been there from the beginning and I usually like his written eps the most. I hope he stays. The last thing we need is a showrunner who wasn't there from the start.
Better the devil you know, right? I generally like Todd, but he’s been slacking this season lol. I hope he’s got something good in store, because I agree that bringing in someone new as the showrunner is usually not a good idea. Maybe if Zack Stentz came in and took over lol…
So do people just choose to ignore 5x11-5x13?? cause not only did we get westallen moments, but great moments for barry and iris individually. Like is a kiss all that matters for a scene to be considered a westallen scene? I get the frustrations but, people are being really over-dramatic about this
Recency bias! I honestly only remember 5.12, lol, so I can’t speak to the rest. But I think everyone would be happier with a few more meaty scenes between them. Kiss or no.
Grant and Candice were excited about Nora and how JKP can be their daughter lol and Grant said he was excited about Nora and The Flash since S4 but now I understand why he is not excited anymore. He is sidelined in his own show
Yup! To be fair, we haven’t had many interviews in the back half of the season, so it’s hard to gauge how they feel about it offscreen. But Grant has certainly not been breathing life into his performance the way he used to, and Candice has hardly mentioned the show on her SM.
I know a lot of people already getting frustrated wth TF storyline & the lack of heart, balance that make TF special. I’m 1 of them. I love Iris & she has her own story aside from WA especially this week wth her dad, but the lack of WA as a healthy couple the show applaud of, is no where to be seen. Action important but even that they x do right. BA is not even a hero in his own story. They need to find their balance & shake things up. Is Arr*w as bad now? Is ol*city potray as a married couple?
I’m frustrated too, so I get it. I think they have all the right pieces and just don’t know how to put them together. I’m sure we’ll get more WA starting next week, though.
As for the other show, it’s better than last season! The amount of OF varies, but I would say there is less of them as a married couple than there was of WA in 4B/5A. But more than there is in 5B so far lol.
There were so many things wrong with this episode and with the show in general. There is no consistency. I don’t mind the villain of the season but they really got have a good story line and know how to build it as well as all the other little side stories. I really didn’t see the point of wells being there. Im sorry but Tom needs to go his characters does not need to be in every episode. Isn’t he supposed to help catch Cicaida or find out his identity ?
I agree about the lack of consistency. I think they just need to find their center again, because they’ve been off-kilter for a bit.
Where do the rumors about G/C hating each other come from? I mean, I know how they SPREAD. This site can be an echo chamber. All it takes is one person to say something and it spreads. But what gives fans the impression they hate each other? First the issue was SM, now it can’t be anymore BC C likes a lot of his pics and even G gave her some likes (not that I bought that excuse since they weren’t ignoring each other to that extent), then it was the wedding but CP confirmed she went. What is it?
I mean, just because you don’t think they hate each other based on their SM (and I don’t either) doesn’t mean others feel the same. From what I can tell, the rumors come from G not standing up for C in the early days and often posting pics with other cast members and not her. Also, people will read into a lot of things C posts and relate them back to G whether she means for that to happen or not. If G posted something with her this week, the rumors would die for about a month and then start back up again. Nothing will change for the fans who like to speculate until GC act like besties and flirt for the cameras and hang out with each others’ SOs the way some other costars do.

i wonder if Nora is a lesbian. is that possible, do you think?
It’s totally possible, and I would be 100% here for it. At the moment, we have no information outside of Todd’s declaration that there will be a new LGBT character on the show this season. Let’s hope he keeps his word, and that they get an actual story arc and romance. If it happens to be Nora? Even better.
CP keeps talking about outgrowing a place and leaving. I don’t think that she would publicly contemplate an important decision like leaving the show but do you think she might be dropping hints for us? If so, why would she say she wants to see more reporter Iris?
Yeah, I don’t think it’s about leaving the show. It’s important life advice for everyone and it could relate to any number of personal situations that are weighing on her which we know nothing about. The woman doesn’t even show us a picture of her brother, lol, or of her parents from the last 20 years. I don’t think she’s dropping hints about such a big move two years in advance (unless she decided to buy out her contract, which would be a wild and expensive move).
[2] the problem because he publicly complimented CP’s looks under one of her pics just two weeks ago and that was after the DMs scandal. That was one of the most shippy things he’s done so I can’t agree with that anon’s logic no matter how much she wants to blame Gr*ndice fans. It doesn’t add up. I think he’s simply in a SM funk or doesn’t want to deal with hate of any kind.
I think I’m missing part one of this ask, but I essentially agree. Grant’s behavior towards Candice does not appear materially colder, and I doubt he’s actively equating WA or her with negative SM feelings.
Grant knows the difference between a few bad fans who happen to ship Westallen hating on his relationship and the whole Westallen fandom. He isn’t going to stop loving Westallen because of the few bad guys.
Basically.
I agree with you. Every year people say GG hates WA then he does an interview and talk about how great is their love or how he never wanted any other ship to happen then they call him WA king. GG and CP really care about WA and we need to stop listening to Antis who wants everyone to believe it.
LOL, it’s a roller coaster.
Grant liked a post from Younis that mentioned the person responsible has deleted social media. How does that relate to WA fans?
I have no idea which post of Younis’ he liked, but either way Grant seems perfectly happy with WA.

Whenever Candice posts poignant quotes and messages, people get worried, which I guess is understandable, but around this time last year she was doing the same, and on a insta live she said that she just posts things like that because she finds the message important, but that it’s not about her, as she is really happy and confident. In fact, from interviews and cons, she and Jessica both seem the most excited about this season. And she has never shown any intention of leaving.
That sounds about right. I mean, the thing is that we haven’t heard much from Candice lately - and that always makes us jumpy. But we will know in a few days whether things are shaping up well for Iris this season or not.
I'm kinda worried about Iris' screentime this season, these past few weeks CP seems to be going back to LA or wherever and not even on Fridays and by Monday, she's not even back sometimes. The 100th episode seems to be Iris-lite, I guess I'm worried they're using the Iris/Nora tension as an excuse for the reduced screentime while we're getting idk how many Nora/Barry scenes and I don't like it.
I totally understand that fear, but it is something we’ve seen in the past. We thought Iris was in a lot less of certain episodes than she ended up being. For the 100th episode, right off the bat it’s clear that she won’t be doing stunts or fight scenes there. But that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have gotten some meaty scenes in for the 4 days out of 8 that she was filming.
It doesn’t make sense to me that they would reduce Iris/Candice’s screentime or importance in this of all seasons, because in that case they could just not create any tension and just use the excuse of Iris “working” to have her be offscreen. That’s what they did in 2A, after all. But until we see the episodes for ourselves, I understand that we worry the producers are irrational and don’t know how to write, lol.
I’m in a bad place with Flash fandom rn. To a point that I dread seeing fan commentary and content. The negativity, constant judgement, gossip, in-fighting, racism, misogyny, superiority complexes, and trolls have just ruined it for me. I hate that because I still love Flash. Sometimes I wish I never joined the fandom. Part of me wants to go, but I can’t do it because then they win. I can’t let them scare me off. IDK where to go from here. Thank you for letting me vent.
I’m so sorry to hear that, and I totally understand what you mean. At this point, I think your best option (and mine) is merely to watch the episodes or read the interviews without looking at any comments. Drop off your love for the show, Iris, Westallen, whatever you like - and then go do something else that makes you happy.
There’s definitely others out there who feel like you and who want a positive space to squee, so maybe put out a tweet or whatever SM platform you use to ask about starting a new groupchat that will suit what you and others you know would like?
It’s the SBs and antis that talk about GG hating CP. It’s to make them feel better about their faves. CP fans don’t talk about hate, just his passive behavior in certain situations. I’ve seen fans complain about him not promoting the show on SM but by the look of it he’s not promoting any other project, just that skateboard deal (I consider his wedding/fiancé a project given how much he promoted the RL on SM and in the media). Unless I missed it he’s not promoting his NYC show either.
I would argue that this is a bit of semantics, but I am sure that he will promote the show more A) once it premieres this week, and B) once his wedding prep and celebrations are done.
Why does 50% of the fandom think Grant hates Candice and the other 50% thinks he’s having an affair with her?
Because people interpret the same data through different filters, lol, and it’s easy to come to any conclusion you want when you don’t have more than 5% of the facts.
I hate to bring up fandom gossip but I keep seeing people talk about this, and you’re one of the more rational people in this fandom and I like reading your thoughts, so: what are your thoughts on Grant and Candice’s social media interactions, or lack there-of?
Social media is in no way an indicator of real-life relationships or interactions. You would probably have no idea who my best friends are based on my SM platforms. I know we’re used to casts who act like a big happy family online no matter what and always feed their fans, but the majority of The Flash cast isn’t like that and hasn’t been for 5 years.
I think that G&C may be more private with their dynamic than they are with some others, but I also don’t think it’s a huge outlier compared to how they are with (for example) Carlos and vice versa.
