Buggy:

Period Sex - FUCK Yes - It's messy, it's red, it's kind of flashy actually, and Buggy loves it. You don't grow up on the most famous pirate ship in the world without being comfortable with all sorts of things. I feel like everyone under Roger's flag was, we'll say educated, and as such I can't see anyone from that crew being put off by menstruation.

Plus, orgasms are a cure for some, and there's one way to find out if it works for you to alleviate any cramping you may be feeling. You're going to be a complete mess by the time it's done though, Buggy's a little blood-lusty, surprisingly maybe, but he gets feral, and more so than with lipstick or makeup, he loves to "mark" you.

Aftercare - Oh god you don't even know - He is a terribly stressed clown, but I also think he's a big damned softie too. Buggy really is just as comfortable brushing your hair as he is ordering the crew around. Maybe more so, honestly. All that hair he has though, and that makeup he wears, the man's skin and hair care routines are on point as much as his eyeliner game. He will take care of you after every session, even if he subbing or bottoming some of it.

I think Buggy's desire to serve is almost as strong as Sanji's honestly. If you're an important person to him, he doesn't want to let you down, and he will devour your praises. But he's also The Captain™, and no matter what his role was, he's going to provide you proper aftercare.

Dacryphilia - No. - Sure sometimes tears happen. Sometimes you're so overwhelmed they slip out, sometimes you are chocking on the impressive package this man has. Sometimes tears happen, but Buggy doesn't like tears. He doesn't want to see you cry. If your makeup smears he wants it to be cause of sweat and pleasure and touch, not because you're crying. He's not even good at handling happy tears, let alone any other kind.

Buggy's more of let-him-do-the-crying-for-both-of-you type. He'd happily be the only one stressed to the ends of his capacity, than to have you worry. (Which probably worries you xD it's a bit of a cycle like that).

Sir Crocodile:

Period Sex - Yes - He doesn't mind the mess. The cause doesn't bother him. The only reason it doesn't rate higher is because it's hard to know if your period will heighten your pleasure or your pain - that lack of control bothers him, no matter how well or fast he can adjust accordingly.

He also doesn't see it as marking you the same way some others do. It's your blood, not his. It has a scent that isn't his or his cigars. If anything it's an annoyance because you should smell like him, and you shouldn't ever be hurt enough to smell like blood. You shouldn't be close enough to violence to even know what blood smells like, at least as far as he's concerned. But he'll soothe your cramps and discomfort in any way he can when it's that time.

Aftercare - Oh god you don't even know - As said before, Crocodile is all about control, and aftercare is required for control. You don't want to leave your little bottom/sub spiraling with all sorts of thoughts on their own. Whether we're talking toxic AU or not. Aside from the control though, he enjoys it. It's time to bond, to discuss, to connect. The more he knows about you the more control he can exert.

The more control you can hand over.

Plus, as beautiful as you are in his clutches, you're just as beautiful in his care.

Dacryphilia - FUCK Yes - Oh please cry for him. Sob in terror or pleasure or pain, he's not picky. Your face in tears is as lovely as your face contorted in pleasure. The only requirement is that those tears are his fault. No one else is allowed to make you cry.

As much as he will pull tears from you - and most sobs of pleasure as long as you're good - he'll kiss them away so sweetly. Brushing them aside so kindly, and with such praise.

Donquixote Doflamingo:

Period Sex - FUCK Yes - Not only is it a mess, it's a bloody mess. Doffy's a bit twisted and I can see him actually smearing the mess all over you while he's taking a break between railing you. He's not doing it so much to mark you, as he is to almost degrade you. He'll tell you how dirty you are, covered in blood and cum and tears - he 100% gets into degrading you during it.

Sometimes being on your period can make you more sensitive to pleasure, and sometimes it makes you more sensitive to pain - it doesn't matter as far as he's concerned. He'll get his pleasure at the least, and he'll enjoy turning you into a mess in the meantime.

Aftercare - Yes - Unless he's truly into you, don't take this as some kind of kindness. Aftercare is a good time to learn and bond, and for Doffy that generally means it's a great time to reinforce all his manipulations. It lets you think he cares (again, *maybe* he does), and pulls you closer into his grasp.

A truly skilled puppeteer doesn't necessarily hide the strings, he just makes sure you don't pay attention to them when you should be >.>

Dacryphilia - Oh god you don't even know - Cry for him, please. Crumble to pieces in pleasure, fear or pain - whatever it may be that you've earned at the point in time. If you're overwhelmed in pleasure he'll promise you such sweetness and devotion. If you're overwhelmed with fear he'll admonish you softly and forgive you magnanimously. If pain stains your face he'll have you begging for forgiveness, a forgiveness he'll bestow on you when he feels like it.

Perhaps after you've gone raw and hoarse from tears and begging.

Much like others who enjoy making their partners cry, it is a pleasure reserved entirely for him and no one else. Members of his immediate family may get an understanding pass, circumstances depending, but anyone beyond that is likely to be dealt with swiftly.

Hello! Sorry this is going to be a long ask.

I'm writing a cast of four characters, all of whom have some form of disability and I'd like your input, especially since a few of them fall into tropes I've seen talked about on the blog.

I have autism, ADHD, and chronic joint pain that is undiagnosed but probably related to hypermobility. All of them have ADHD and autism but I'm not going to talk about that at length for any of them because I'm pretty comfortable with writing them.

Dispite the amount of disabled characters I have and the questions I have about how to portray them, this is not a story about disability or the disabled experience, but I do want to showcase my disabled characters in a nuanced way that highlights that their disability is not separable from them.

This is also for a fanfiction, and the source has some trouble with how it portrays disability (evil character with an eye patch, bionics that completely negate the disability) and I'm trying to figure out what I can modify and what I need to just throw out.

I'll go in alphabetical order and talk about them and the tropes I'm worried about falling into/what I want advice on.

Autumn (he/they)

He has ADHD, autism, classical EDS, is mildly HoH (about 20-30 decibels less than normal range), and has three fingers on his right hand due to an injury. They use a variety of mobility aids throughout the story, starting with only occasionally using a cane and ending with using forearm crutches on good days and a wheelchair on bad days.

The tropes/things I'm concerned about with them are the “good” wheelchair user, the noble dead disabled character, and finger prosthetics

The "pure/good" wheelchair user trope I'm partially concerned about because he becomes the moral core of the cast as time goes on and he gets more disabled. He doesn't become a better person, really, but everyone else gets Worse. He's still snarky and can be selfish and jaded at times, but I feel like it's harder to demonstrate that at the end.

Being the most honest and least willing to capitulate to doing terrible things leads to his execution, which is a turning point and a point of no return. I feel like this ties into a trope of the disabled character dying first, especially since he's the one who's using disability aids/is most explicitly disabled.

I've seen the posts about why finger prosthetics aren't useful/common, but I was thinking that he'd start off with canon-typical bionic fingers before eventually realizing that he doesn't need them and it's more hassle to put them on and off than it is to just not have them. Is this an okay use of finger prosthetics since it's kind of grappling with the trope itself? Or would it be better for him not to have them in the first place?

Right now I have it so Autumn’s sister Summer died and he named himself in her honor when he transitioned. That's pretty immutable at this point. However, right now I have her as d/Deaf, with much more profound hearing loss than Autumn. (Which is also why he knows ASL) Does this fall into a disabled dead character issue?

Chauncey (he/him)

Chauncey has ADHD, autism, burn scars, chronic pain (unspecified, based on my own experiences) and dyscalculia.

Chauncey's the one I'm frankly least concerned about any specific tropes. There are only one or two concerns I have with him:

As an author, it's important to know what disability a character has even if they don't know. I know in your FAQ you say “I'm disabled is it okay to x” is generally okay, but do you think I should have a more specific disability in mind that matches my symptoms or can I keep it no specificity?

He's a clone who was rapidly aged and I wasn't sure how to figure out if/how that might affect his dyscalculia since it's not exactly a situation that happens in real life but that's about it.

Morticia (she/her)

She's my protagonist. She has autism, ADHD, a visual impairment in the form of a missing eye, and visible scarring on her face.

She's heavily based on the canon character who was an “evil eyepatch” guy. I changed it so she actually has issues with said eye and made her less evil during the period of time she uses it but I'm not sure if I should just ditch the eyepatch all together.

She starts with a bionic eye (it's not perfect, but she can see out of it to some extent). Then she gets into some sci-fi bullshit and starts piloting around a robot telepathically, but her signals get crossed with her bionic eye, so she covers it with an eyepatch while she's piloting the robot. She does use this scheme to commit 28 murders, but the murders are kind of justified by the plot? She's really written as doing some ehh things for what she believes is right. I definitely wouldn't write the eyepatch that way if it wasn't in the source, but it was like the way to identify her character in the source, so it feels weird to not have it at all.

After that, she gets arrested, gets her bionic taken, and gets a prosthetic to keep appearances and hold the shape. Stuff happens, and she gets another bionic with some more visual info that is sometimes too much for her. She gets a lot worse than when she had the eye patch, but she does still have a noticeable eye difference. Her later bionic is totally customizable and she normally keeps it a glowing gold.

I have questions about her facial scarring because she uses it to play on people's perceptions. When she's campaigning and trying to look innocent and kind, she covers it as much as she can. However, when she feels like she is in control and can do whatever she wants without consequences, she doesn't bother or even chooses to try to cover her freckles but avoid her scars because she thinks they make her more intimidating. This results in her having her scarring visible during scenes where she's being "evil" but not when she's being "good." Is that okay? It feels like it's playing into the "villain with scars" but since she as a character is doing that, it feels less like the story itself is doing it (especially since Chauncey has similar or slightly more prominent scarring and doesn't do similar things), but I'm unsure.

She is evil, and disabled, but I don't want her to be an evil disabled character. I try to associate her covering up her scarring more with masking/trying to fit in than with her being “good” but I'm not sure if it comes off that way.

Mortimer (he/him)

ADHD, autism, and limb difference (upper arm amputee)

Mortimer is probably the character I'm most worried about with my disability rep (shocking considering the five huge paragraphs I just wrote about Morticia). He's the trope of “amputee that fixes his own prosthetics/tinkers on himself.” He also makes Autumn and Morti’s aids (at least until the arrest). He also kind of falls into an autistic savant but I'm less worried about how to navigate that since I'm very familiar with the autistic community, am autistic, and have other autistic characters.

I'm worried that if I make the prosthetics he makes not “cybernetic fix-all” it'll defeat some of what I'm trying to do with making him just as good as inventors who have done that in canon. I don't know how to retcon that canon without using an author's note, which feels disjointed and I want to avoid it.

To try to work with this and not ignore the fact he's disabled, I show the prosthetics needing maintenance and try to show them sometimes being uncomfortable or heavy.

However, this leads into my second problem with how I'm handling his disability. His character arc causes him to go from being the nicest one in the cast who is very meticulous but can sometimes have a temper, to becoming reckless, rude, and seemingly uncaring.

As he becomes more reckless and less willing to care for himself, he stops doing some of the necessary maintenance on his prosthetic, causing it to break more often and rust. I'm worried this looks like I'm tying his disability getting “worse” with his morality, since he also stops caring for others as much when he stops caring for himself.

I'm also not sure if it is okay for him to paint his bionic arm to try to look like a flesh arm, since he was a criminal and he was trying to make himself look less identifiable at a glance. And if it is, when he stops doing his maintenance on it, it makes sense for the paint to chip, but that would strengthen the association of him being more visibly disabled as he becomes meaner and harsher. I'm not sure if having Autumn bring the only one who's personality remains more or less the same while becoming more visibly disabled balences this out a little bit or if it's a point of having two tropes at the same time doesn't make either better. (If Autumn is a “good wheelchair user”)

Questions involving more than one character:

Autumn knows some ASL. Mortimer is an unrealistic character that knows far more than any one person can know, and he knows basically any language as far as the story is concerned. Autumn teaches Morti a little ASL, as well. Since Autumn can understand most conversation, they generally use it instead of whispering rather than in normal conversation. Is that an acceptable use of ASL?

Currently all of my visible facial and limb differences are due to injury. I have extremely few other characters with any prominence or description at all, certainly to the extent where it would be reasonable to know if someone has a difference due to injury or birth. Do I change/add something to these four so it's less All Injuries?

I mentioned before Mortimer and Morticia trying to hide their differences for different reasons. I don't really want to go into any sense of shame they have over it, just them hiding for practical purposes. If it's not appropriate to hide them for practical purposes, do I have people react as if they had hidden them or is that erasure? (e.g. Mortimer doesn't paint his arm and it's visibly mechanical. Is that something the police are looking to identify him by or do I ignore it? It feels weird to ignore it, but if it's causing problems for the characters it feels like a reasonable reaction would be to try to blend in, but is trying to blend in/hiding their disability just heightening the sense that disabled people need to hide?)

I will answer only some of your questions because I don't have enough experience with a lot of the subject matter here. I'd recommend looking at this post some time after it's published to see if maybe a follower had an answer/suggestion for you.

Now for the questions I'm able to answer:

For Chauncey;

It's 100% okay to base it on your own experience. At times disabilities are mysterious and unspecific, that's just how it sometimes is. The problem with this that appears from abled authors is that the symptoms or treatments just often don't make sense, because they have no clue what they're doing; confusing basic terms, making weird conclusions...

But you are a person with lived experience. You understand how your symptoms work and how you manage it from the best - first person - point of view. If someone is well-equipped to write a character with your disability, it's you.

For Morticia (cool name BTW);

As of the bionic eye; as far as I'm aware they don't really exist yet, but this is a sci-fi scenario so it's a bit different. (If you want to hear about the currently real options, here's a post that could interest you).

I'm slightly puzzled by her eyepatch fixing the signal issues; I would've assumed that it would transmit things either way (?) because with an eyepatch she would still see, just the inside of the patch and not the usual stuff. But my cluelessness here might be my fault by the fact that I'm not familiar with the source material. But if it's meant for a general (non-fandom) audience, I think it would be great if you could elaborate on the science here!

With the later eyes she gets, I advise you to keep her visually impaired even if her vision improves somewhat. It shouldn't be a cure. You potentially could think of it like hearing aids, where they can be more or less helpful, but are often more annoying than anything else and aren't fully "restoring" the sense by any means. Maybe her bionic eye has static, or weird spots, or causes double vision.

Now for the "hmm" part...

Please, please, please don't do this. To answer your question; not okay.

I have written a post somewhat about this kind of thing. I really dislike playing with ableism in this way. Portraying scars as "intimidating" on an already dicey character... just no.

To pull this off in a way that's not offensive, you would have to research disfiguremisia in and out. It would need active commentary and a lot of teaching-the-reader-why-this-is-bad, and if you have to ask if it's okay, then you just aren't ready for it. And that's fine! You don't have to write a scenario based on heavy disfiguremisia, so don't. Remember, it's not her acting a certain way, it's you writing her to act a certain way.

I don't want you to take this personally, but please just don't write this. Not like this, at least.

For the "fitting in" part, I addressed it in the post linked above; I don't think that I have anything to add that wasn't included there.

For Mortimer, the best I can do right now is give you a bunch of links that will hopefully be helpful to you. This is just way beyond my answering capabilities and we don't have any mods who are amputees at the moment, so you're at the mercy of follower input for the most part. But;

For the rest of the questions;

I would say yes! Some of the tropes that you're working if are Not Great, so adding a few additional characters that don't fall into them will help a lot. Try having some characters with similar disabilities that don't tick the issue-causing boxes. Throw someone with a facial difference that doesn't commit any kind of mass murder in there.

In real life they would probably be recognized by it, though I need to say that there is absolutely a part of the population who just Doesn't Notice. People can absolutely be oblivious, especially if the lack of limb is hidden by clothes. Particularly if there are a lot of things going on.

That said, if whoever seen them has noticed, then they would look for that. That's just the logical outcome. But I don't think an eyepatch helps much to hide the actual disability, they would still assume that the person with a bionic eye and the eyepatch-wearing person are probably the same.

You can potentially avoid it by making a large chunk of the population disabled, lol. "Girl without an eye" isn't very helpful information to hunt someone by when there's dozens of people with that description in the city.

For the end, I'm sorry that some parts of it might have come off as Not the Most Encouraging (the Morticia part...), please remember that I'm just criticizing the tropes and implications. I can kind of tell that whatever the source material is, it is way worse about its treatment of disability/facial difference, so I would consider it an improvement nonetheless. Still, it could be better. I hope that the above links and answers will help you with your project.

Hey! Mod Patch hopping in here to talk a bit about Autumn. I think that you’re aware of the tropes this could fall into is a good first step.

First of all, you mention Autumn is missing some fingers and has classical EDS. Both of these could make using a manual wheelchair more difficult. Is the wheelchair in question manual? If it is perhaps consider adding a power assist (perhaps like a fantasy version of a smart drive.

I’m not too concerned about him being “pure” because you mention that they are 1) working with other “immoral” folks. My suggestion would be to try and lean into the selfish and jaded parts of the character. Show his motivations aren't exclusively disability-related. I am a bit concerned about his execution. I understand that you might not be able to change that plot point but can you have other characters who use mobility aids and survive longer? They don’t have to be as major in the story.

A while ago I created a crossover AU between Angels Of Death and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint where Dokja was a floor master (for any ORV fans, the floor masters are the main threats in Angels of death they are most commonly serial killers and they hunt you down on each floor) when the scenarios started. I know that alongside Dokja, Zack, Danny, Rachel and Reverend Gray survived and Heewon joined after the first scenario.

I finished Dokja's backstory but not sure about the rest of the au. I'll share it here.

Warning for human trafficking, abuse, attempted suicide and murder

Dokja's mom accidentally gave him to an orphanage that was part of a human trafficking ring. While at that orphanage, he had no idea what was going on until the night before he was taken himself. His captors took every book he had except one. Dokja tore out all the pages in his book and placed it in his pocket to hide it from them. Dokja was horrified by this entire process until he arrived at the orphanage in rural England.

There, Dokja was taken in by the caretakers of that orphanage with the intent of selling him off within the month. Zack was ordered to let Dokja sleep in his room and he was considered one of the many weird international kids or "that one kid from Korea". He struggled with the language barrier and spent all his time either reading the book he brought with him, or trying to understand the people around him. He tried interacting with Zack but Zack wouldn't speak with him because he thought that Dokja would either die or get sold off. The language barrier was particularly bad for Dokja because the caretakers of the orphanage did not speak Korean and would punish Dokja if he didn’t follow orders he didn't understand, which made him even more withdrawn due to all the abuse.

At some point during the sparse interactions with Zack, he asked him about the English alphabet. It took him a very long time to respond but when he did, he just told Dokja that he was illiterate. Dokja had been there for about 3 weeks and he had been there longer than Zack had expected and he was slightly impressed. The next day, Dokja and Zack are given the task to "dig" which Dokja doesn't understand but Zack just grabs the bag and drags him outside. Zack starts digging a hole and Dokja just stares at the bag, wondering why they needed to burry a garbage bag. He discovered the dead kid in the bag and begins silently freaking out when Zack comes over to get him to help with the digging when he found out what Dokja saw and dragged him back, put a shovel in his hands and roughly tells him not to complain and just do the job so they could go back in. Dokja then takes the shovel and starts digging, the rest of it passes silently and Dokja throws the bag into the hole and they cover it up.

Dokja attempted to use the computer in the master bedroom to look up an English to Korean dictionary or some resources on the Latin alphabet, but he was caught and berated by the female caretaker. He was slapped and taken back to his room. He remained locked in there until Zack was forced back in at the end of the day. By the time Zack went back in, Dokja was no where to be seen. Dokja threw himself out of the window in an attempt to kill himself and all Zack could feel was a mix of Pitty and Annoyance at the fact that he would have to burry another kid so soon. He also noticed that Dokja's book was in a different place and the last page was on top of the pile, he finished reading it and tried to kill himself when he had nothing left.

But Dokja failed. Another kid spotted him on the ground outside and the fall wasn't high enough to kill him anyways. Dokja's broken arm was wrapped up in a very shitty cast and he was given no medical attention. It was around this time that they stopped giving him food. It was around noon that they noticed that and Zack, having realized that he didn't want to burry another kid at this time, showed Dokja how he scavenged for food, but Dokja only watched Zack and wouldn't do anything. Zack started talking to him about the book and why it was in a different place than usual and He told him that he had finished reading it. They start discussing the book and Dokja begins talking about the plot while Zack just listened and continued to dig through the trash and Dokja began to follow along with Zack.

While digging through the trash, Dokja finds an old book. It's in English and Dokja takes it back to their room. Zack does recognize some words and Dokja asked him about others. Over a long period of time Dokja figures out how to read and talks with Zack more, mostly about what he's read or for help on words he didn't understand. The next time they had to burry a kid, Zack found that he'd actually be upset if Dokja died, and he was irritated by because he didn't understand it.

Eventually Dokja's mom wrote the book about how she killed her husband. She had heard that the orphanage she sent her son to had been busted for human trafficking. She had been devastated when her son wasn't among the recovered and wanted to try and find him, which is why the book was written. She opted to write the book in 5 different languages to cast the widest net she could to try and raise attention. It actually worked, her book became an international best seller and the Kim Dokja case became very well known. The spotlight put on them, the orphanage had to move as everyone was waken up in the middle of the night and moved across England but they knew they didn't have a chance to stay there. In the end, the orphanage moved to Vietnam as the caretakers had contacts there.

During this time Dokja learned Vietnamese so he could continue reading and Zack joined in. Eventually there was a nation wide attempt to stop human trafficking and the orphanage moved again to Korea a few years later after the Dokja case died down.

Dokja and Zack were some of the only kids from the original orphanage in England. The new building was run by the original caretakers as they had gotten set up there. Dokja and Zack raided the master bedroom of the last place they lived in, they brought them to Korea with them. Eventually Zack is up late on night after he and Dokja had buried another corpse. Zack was bored and decided to look through Dokja's book stash and found a book in English, the book was an anthology series about a serial killer and his victims. This, instead of the horror film, was what inspired Zack to kill.

Zack took two knives from the kitchen and came back to his room. He woke up Dokja and gave on of the knives to him and explained his plan. Dokja was just kind of shocked, he remembered his mother but also all the abuse the caretakers put them through and just followed Zack quietly, with no idea of what to do.

When Zack killed the first one, Dokja felt nothing, he hated his mother for sending him here and killing his dad. But he felt something was off about that memory. Dokja decided to kill the second one, he still didn't feel any sense of wrongness, but relief, and he just wondered why.

Dokja was first to leave the orphanage and Zack asked him where he was going. Dokja said that he was going to take a walk and Zack said that he was going to leave this place and Dokja asked to join him.

When Dokja killed one of the caretakers, he remembered something, he killed his father and his mom lied to protect him. Dokja is trying to come to terms with why he didn't feel anything negative from killing either of them. Until he and Zack were interrupted by a car splashing water on them. A woman stepped out and she apologized and showed sympathy to them. Zack killed her either way and Dokja wasn't horrified, just mildly Disgusted by the blood. Zack asked him why he was so quiet and that's when Dokja noticed the car, they could sleep in that and use it for shelter. Dokja understood why killing the caretakers and his father was alright, they were repeatedly harming him and those around him, and killing the woman was fine too, because her death would help him and Zack survive.

Dokja went back to grab his books and both he and Zack climb in and fall asleep. The next morning an old man finds them. Zack takes out a knife but Dokja realizes that the man had no reaction to the dead body or all the blood and grabs Zack's hand and quietly says that there is something off about him. The old man mentions that he's blind, which explains why he wasn’t reacting to everything and told Zack and Dokja that they wouldn't have to kill him. The old man had realized that there were two boys in the car and offered to take them to his place.

Living with the old man was better than the orphanage, but to Dokja it was the best thing to happen since his mom left him at the original orphanage. The old man was kind and gave them shelter, while Zack was irritated by this kindness not understanding it, Dokja quickly became attached. Dokja spent most of the time reading, but when Zack came back in the middle of the night after killing a drunkard, Dokja asked if he took the guy's wallet and Zack said that he didn't think of that and Dokja told him that it would be a good idea to take that into account. The old man found out when Zack turned on the shower to try and clean the blood off, he asked Zack what he wanted to do when he told him about the murder.

When the old man hadn't come back late one day, Zack got mad and thought that they'd been abandoned. Dokja was trying to hide his concern, but the idea of them being abandoned made him very upset. Zack left the house with the intent to try and kill someone, when Dokja asked why he said that it was to make him feel better. Dokja took note of what seemed to be a change in Zack's personality when they killed the caretakers but now he knew what it was, he was using violence to take out his problems. He wasn’t happy with this change in his friend, but decided that finding the old man was more important. Dokja convinced Zack that finding the old man was more important for the time being.

When they found the crime scene around the old man's body, Dokja was devastated. Zack saw this and told him that they would find out who did this. When they did find the thugs who killed the old man, Zack stabbed and killed one of them and the other tried to run away, but Dokja stabbed her and continued to do so until she stopped moving. Zack accepted that he was a monster and that he liked to kill people who become monsters. Dokja began to cry after he killed that thug and Zack comforted him, and then took all their valuables and even the male thugs jacket to try and cheer up Dokja.

The next few years were spent on the run from the Cops, Zack running around and killing people as much as he wanted, while Dokja tried to keep Zack's killings reasonable and hiding from the cops. In this time Zack learned Korean with Dokja teaching him. Dokja discovered ways of survival around a time when Zack got himself serious injured. Throughout all of this, Dokja has continued to discuss the books he's read with Zack, even as they grew up. Eventually they were approached by Gray about the tower, which Dokja only accepted because it meant that the police wouldn't be able to catch them.

He is only really talkative with Zack or if the conversation is about ways of survival, otherwise he is quiet and kind of stuck in his own world until the scenarios start, where he takes on a leader role at the behest of the surviving floor masters since he knows the most about Ways of Survival. He is very survival focused and only joined the building because it would guarantee that he and Zack wouldn't be found by the police. He is also overly cautious and goes through a lot of effort to avoid danger. Dokja has no issue with watching or committing acts of murder, but he only really kills if he needs something from someone and there's very little risk involved or if he's been caught doing something bad. He is still obsessed with ways of survival and his self loathing has been lessened a bit due to having Zack to lean on.

If a series puts me off in the first episode, I will often abandon it, sometimes within the first few minutes. I'm less likely to abandon midway. If I'm considering abandoning a series I've otherwise liked up to that point, I'll often read the reviews on MDL or look up posts on the series, at risk of getting spoilers, to decide whether to go on with it (and it's gone both ways).

Not a fan of spoilers, but recognize it as a risk of engaging so I don't (usually) spoiler-shame. Please don't put them in comments to me, if you would be so kind.

These all had some kind of major issue that prevents me from recommending them.

Fish Upon the Sky (appalled at the racism/punch-down humor in episode 4, otherwise loved its play with form)

Last Twilight (entrancing series, but the characters didn't grow, the ending was poorly set up - needed a few more episodes - and it ultimately fumbled on disability rep)

Mr. Cinderella (nearly abandoned this one because of a supporting toxic character, but kept with it after reading a post about the traditional Vietnamese story it was tracking)

Secret Crush on You (cringed for the first half, considered dropping it, read the defense by trans reviewers, watched the rest, and suddenly it got really good)

Together With Me (mix of great content and really problematic content)

Lukewarm:

I'm more glad than not that I watched these but in retrospect would have been okay if I had missed them:

Bagan Beginning (Not-bad early Myanmar QL, lots of food and antiquity porn, content warning for violence in the last episode)

Color Rush (interesting concept, okay)

Enchanté (not as bad as people say it is, but also just okay)

Gay OK Bangkok and Gay OK Bangkok 2 (definitely gay and, er, okay)

Only Friends (episode notes) (a sex farce with too much toxic behavior for my taste and a last episode choice that left a bad taste in my mouth)

Our Skyy 2 Vice Versa (was just okay with a really bad idea at the base of its plot)

Cooking Crush (a few minutes into episode 1 [2/4] as it is getting way too silly for me, plus we're going to have to put up with hazing/bullying as comedy - at least they had some new sound effects)

Love by Chance (had someone fall on top of someone else in the first 30 seconds, left immediately)

WYATT MOODY (OC) SFW ALPHABET

Disclaimer: I DON'T support J.K. Rowling!

Ok, this is my first work like this, so lets clarify some things:

Wyatt Moody is an oc I created, and he's Mad-Eye Moody's adoptive son. He's a hufflepuff and he's an year ahead of Harry.

This headcannons take place at Hogwarts (If you're +18, I suggest you to leave cuz he's a minor).

Made in Picrew. I know it doesn't look like in the image, but he has black hair, ok?

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

He's not so used to PDA, but he still tries. He likes to hold hands and when you rest your head on his shoulder.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

He's such a good friend. He helps you with your homework and would fight anyone making fun of you. The friendship probably started because you didn't act differently after knowing who is his father.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He loves cuddles! Having you in his arms makes him feel so relaxed. If you were both in Hufflepuff, he would sit with you in the couch and cuddle as you talk about your day.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?

He's tired. He wants the war to end, so you can be together. I think he would like to live in the countryside, so you can look at the stars together and stuff. He's terrible at cooking, but he really likes cleaning the house.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

If you broke up, it would be due to insecurity or to your own safety. Even though he's not in the Order, he's still associated with it, and if he feels he can't protect you, the best option in his head is to stay away from you.

But you'll break up eventually, he dies in HBP.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Since he's a minor, i'll just put his opinion about it.

I'll be honest, he doesn't care about marriage. You're already together, what's the point?

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Such a soft boy. The last thing he wants is to hurt you, so he is always gentle physically. Emotionally, sometimes he can be a bit insensitive because there are a lot of emotions he doesn't really understand. But it's not on purpose.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

He really likes hugging and also being hugged. Wyatt prefers when you hug first, so he can imitate your moves. His head goes "Oh, this feels nice. I'll do the same so they can feel this way as well".

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

I think he said "I love you" when you were still just friends. He's aware that romantic love is not the only type of love, because he also loves his pet and his dad. That's why he felt cool when saying this so early.

I imagine him saying that after you do something for him, like helping him with some wounds, and he goes "I love you so much, thanks" and doesn't notice you getting as red as the Gryffindor uniforms.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they're jealous?)

He's usually really chill, but he can't help but get a little jealous when you do something you usually do together with someone else. He would go to the Shrieking Shack (he found out the passage in his 2nd year) to calm down and then just forget about it.

He really trusts you, it's just his insecurities getting on his way.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He would kiss you so softly that you could think a butterfly just landed on your face. He loves kissing your hands (what a gentleman), and even though he's kinda short (he's 1,62 m/ 5'3 ft), he likes kissing your forehead.

As you can see in the image, he has a scar on his nose. His heart would melt if you kissed him there.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

He's scared of children. Ok, not exactly. He's scared of how fragile they are, and how any sudden move can make them cry. Unless someone else is in the same room, he won't even get near children.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Mornings are spent really calmly. You would have breakfast at the Great Hall together (If you weren't in the same house, he'd just sit next to you like it's the most normal thing in the world), but you wouldn't chat so much because he's not really able to talk in the morning.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

That's the time you usually cuddle. When the Common Room is empty, he's much more affectionate. I think he'd also like to read for you :) He would pick a book you like and read it out loud (not so loud, it's late), making different tones for each character and stuff.

BONUS: If you're in Slytherin and you don't want to say a bigoted password, he would camp with you in the Room of Requirement ("omg how did he find so many secret places" hufflepuffs are good finders, I don't make the rules).

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

His dad taught him that revealing too much at once can cause trouble, so he waits until he's a 100% sure he can trust you. He usually drops information once in a while, like when a conversation is related to some topic about him.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

C'mon, he's a Hufflepuff. Patience is his second name. His default face makes him look like he's mad all the time, but when he's with you, the only face he makes is a soft, tired smile (like the image). When you do something reckless, he may raise his voice a little. But that's because he's worried, not angry.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

This guy has elephant's memory. He remembers EVERYTHING about you. But that includes your favorite type of tea, as well as that time in the 2nd year when you tripped on his shoes and said "thank you".

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

His favorite memory would be when he asked you to the Yule Ball. Your first answer was hugging him and he was so confused, and blushing. He went like "is this a yes?", you went "you bet", and he felt he would melt. The fact you started dating for real after the Ball makes this moment more precious to him.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Him? Mad-Eye Moody's son? Oh, my friend, the only one who knows more about security than Wyatt is his father. The only thing he won't do for you is use the Unforgivable Curses, but only because he doesn't know how to cast it.

About being protected, he feels loved when you do it for him. But if you hurt yourself while doing it, he'd feel guilty.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

At first, he wouldn't know how to do it. You are the first one he ever dated. But when he learns more about relationships, he decides to give you things that made him think about you. For example, if a book's synopse makes him remember you, he would buy it for you. Or a pretty rock, he likes rocks. And writing love letters.

And he would NEVER forget a special date! Your birthday, your parents' birthday, all of it.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He has a huge difficulty in accepting a praise. His mind can't process it, even when he recognizes he deserves it.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He just doesn't like too wrinkled clothes. Besides that, he doesn't really care about looks.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Yes. Since you entered his life, he simply can't imagine living without you anymore.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

He has a pet snake. It's a white snake named Scamander (in my native language, a snake's scale is "escama", it's kinda similar to Scamander). When he's reading or doing homework, she curls on his neck like a scarf.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn't like, either in general or in a partner?)

He couldn't be with someone that's used to lie. He values honesty the most in a relationship of any kind. And after knowing so much about death eaters, a blood purist have no place in his life.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

After the events of Goblet of Fire, he tends to sleep badly, because of the nightmares with Barty Crouch Jr. Or he doesn't sleep at all.

ASOS; Steel and Snow: 29 ARYA V (pages 395-405)

Arya and co. continue to chase after Beric Dondarrion. The search lands them in a town where her father and Robert Baratheon fought their war years ago, and are faced with more crimes of the current war before spending the night in a brothel.

... It's horrific, but I like how we start with a romanticized retelling of Ned and Bobby B's fight, and then we get smacked in the face with what's going on now and you have to sit there and realise: the horrific shit that's happening now almost certainly happened then, but the nitty-gritty never makes it to the retelling, it's all sanitized propaganda.

... oh that's fucked up. Leaving people in cages to die of thirst. What they did to be put in there wasn't something forgivable, but damn, kill them clean.

Revenge is making monsters out of men and women, out of victims. But what else can they do? If they could fight they would have died fighting already.

Don't leave men like that to linger though, if they deserve death kill them, don't drag it out. Best case scenario is a lingering death, worst case someone gets them out and the call for revenge of their own.

... I am going to mention that it is a little interesting, in terms of Arya's personal arc, that she used/thought valar morghulis like a comment or prayer at their death, but in this instance at least, it's associated with a mercy killing (as well as judicial execution).

... sorry, hang on, should I know who this Mad Huntsman is? Is he one of Beric's crew or... I'll find out at some point, don't worry.

For half a heartbeat, she forgot who she was supposed to be. She wasn't any peach, but she couldn't be Arya Stark either, not here with some smelly drunk she didn't know.

Gendry with the save! and the anger about his crush on her because of his inferiority complex that he's taking out on her, no, stahp, you were doing well at being a good man. don't nice guy this shit. deep breath, you'll be okay!

She liked to mix up the order of the names sometimes. It helped her remember who they were and what they'd done.

That's an interesting tidbit and a good memory trick. It might also be so GRRM doesn't have to remember which order he had them down in every time.

actually, that reminds me of a copaganda show I watched once, where the cop tricked a suspect into revealing they were lying by getting them to recite their alibi backwards. just reverse the order of events and start at the end of the night, because real memories are tied together with a flow, cause/effect or something, you can generally go forwards or backwards from one, so remembering real events backwards is not much harder than remembering them forwards, but remembering false events is harder, because they aren't real memories, it's just a list you learn and memories, like how saying the alphabet backwards is really tricky until you actually start learning it backwards.

Arya mixing up the list keeps it from being just a list.

...And the Mad Huntsman arrives. You know, the sheer number of dogs and the savage behaviour from those dogs, I kind of thought "oh shit, it's Ramsay!"

But no, timelines, he wouldn't have made it down from the sacking of Winterfell yet, even if he was heading south in the aftermath instead of dicking about the north or heading back to shitstain manor the Dreadfort.

Who does he have from team Lannister though? (I'll find out.)

Hey, Have You Heard These 50 Tracks from 2023?

Another year comes to a close and the music lover pulls up their trusty spotify playlist to document the high points of their year in music. You know the drill by now but in case you're new here... Songs are in alphabetical order (there is no internal rating to the 51) but if I had to choose a single song for everyone to listen to, it would be "Why Am I Alive Now", please listen to that track if nothing else. A Spotify playlist of the included songs is linked below for your listening pleasure

Fontaines DC - ' Cello Song Kicking things off with the only cover song on the list, Grian Chatten and band spin Nick Drake's song into something entirely their own, paying homage to Nick Drake's songwriting whilst pulling in the intricacies of their own unique sound and appeal.

Boygenius - $20 Screw star-signs and wizard school houses, which member of Boygenius do you align yourself with? I'm a Julien Baker stan but I adore them all, especially when their voices and styles are weaving in out of each-other in rapturous noise like this.

XL Life - Baby Steps Hardcore and punk has had a great year, a really great year, and XL Life have been a standout part of that. Backed up by a guest verse by Bob Vylan's own Bobby Vylan, Baby Steps is bursting with soul and emotion, driven by breakneck drums and heart-on-sleeve positivity

100 Gecs - Billy Knows Jamie 10,000 Gecs (the much anticipated follow up to 2019's 1000 Gecs) truly gave us the as-promised 10 times as many gecs, if a Gec is a unit of measurement for what can only be referred to as wild-genre-fuckery. Billy Knows Jamie gives us full on Bizkitesque nu-metal, including record scratches, a bass line Fieldy would be proud of and a rapid descent into utter chaos.

Algiers, Billy Woods, Backxwash - Bite Back Bite back is a masterpiece of ever-building tension, Carpenterian synths weave the track together as one musical idea gives way to another. With every new phrase and trade-off between vocalist, the threads pull tauter and tauter. The switch up at 3:10 still gives me chills every time I hear it.

Glass Beach - the CIA My favourite theatre kid emo's are back and doing what they do best, which is whatever the hell they feel like. You know when all the 70s prog rock bands fell into the 80s and needed to get radio-play so they fell into this weird sort of choppy watered down down art-pop sound (e.g. Yes)? This feels like that, but there's no actual need to conform, so Glass Beach are still free to get as weird with it as they want, whenever they want.

Blood Command - Decades Deccades is a very bad representation of Blood Command as a band (at this point I'm unsure if a good representation of the band exists), but it's a very good song. Hardcore and "Death pop" is out, R&B is in. Reverb soaked synths and horns, skittery hi-hats, layered vocals and lyrics about lost love and the Heavens Gate cult.

Liturgy - Djennaration I'll be the first to admit that Liturgy are an acquired taste (the first time I saw them live it made me feel physically ill), but if you can put on some headphones, turn up the volume and lose yourself in Liturgy's "Transcendental Black Metal" there is no other feeling quite like it in music.

Kesha - The Drama The continual evolution of Kesha's sound has been a fascinating thing to watch ever since Tik Tok put her on the brat pop map back in 2009, each album cycle has seen her stripping back elements of character, delivering ever rawer and more honest depictions of self. The Drama pulls away from pop almost entirely, what starts as a Lorde-like slow ballad tumbles into a nightmare-collage of upbeat synths, a circus show of theatrical excess as Kesha's desparately laments on a loss of faith in humanity and self. The song ends on an absurd mix of housecats and Ramones, oh the drama of it all.

Fever Ray - Even It Out Even It Out may not be the technically best song on Radical Romantics, but the idea of Karin Dreijer teaming up with Trent Reznor to make a gleefully unhinged song about violently attacking a child is just too funny to me. The rest of the album is also incredible and well worth a listen.

Follow You - Saint Agnes Oh, hey, speaking of Trent Reznor, Saint Agnes channel Nine Inch Nails on the massive distortion drenched choruses of this stand out track from Bloodsuckers. Lead singer Kitty's vocals soar over wailing guitars and crunching bass, this is the sound of a band triumphing through adversity.

Johnny Booth - Full Tilt I remember seeing a comment when this first released that summed up how ifelt about it perfectly. "This has slap fucks". Yes, selppin2, I couldn't of put it better myself. Johnny Booth have been consistently hitting it out the park for the past few years and this is no exception, absolutely brutal stuff.

Creeper - Further Than Forever Creeper's Sanguivore is an album to be devoured in it's entirety, I couldn't choose a single song so this is merely a goth-punk-opera overture. A nine minute long homage to the theatrical tendencies of Jim Steinman. If you enjoy any part of this, Sanguivore is a must listen for you.

Crosses - Ghost Ride Chino Moreno swaps out the rumbling wall of guitars of Deftones for pulsing bass synths and sparse electronic drums with the second album from his side project with Far's Shaun Lopez. Ghost Ride is a sultry slow build that crashes into industrial-pop(?) choruses.

Idles - Grace Idles (to my surprise) were my most listened to band of last year, and if Grace is a sign of things to come on Tangk, they're in with a shot for 2024 as well. Grace finds Joe Talbot swapping out the political battering ram of a growl he's employed previously for a soulful tone, a message of peace and love, and its hauntingly beautiful to behold. No God, no king, love is the thing.

BENEE - Green Honda You may remember BENEE from tiktok's 2019 supahit Supalonely, she's still writing bops. Two middle fingers up, leave you in the rearview, bops.

Free Refills - Grounded What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good bassline, and this is a great bassline.

Pendulum, Bullet For My Valentine - Halo (Matt Tuck Rework) On his rework of Halo, Matt Tuck keeps all the energy of the original mix but ups the aggression. This is the sound of Pendulum at their heaviest and best.

Tokky Horror, Scottish Gabber Punk - HAMMER 2 THE FACE (Scottish Gabber Punk Remix) Speaking of energy and aggression... it doesn't get much more energy and aggression than this, hammer 2 the face is a fitting title for the brutality of this track.

MSPAINT - Hardwired MSPAINT are a hardcore punk band with a notable lack of guitar, the instrumentation instead filled out with colourful synths. The result is a unique and engaging sound unlike anything else in the genre.

Empire State Bastard - Harvest ESB are my kind of supergroup, formed of Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil, Oceansize's Mike Vennart and Slayer's Dave Lombardo (yes, you read that right). Simon Neil is delivering career best vocal performances, Mike Vennart is stirring up unholy hell on guitar and Dave Lombardo is doing what Dave Lombardo does best.

Alice Longyu Gao - Hëłłœ Kįttÿ I didn't think we could get more unhinged than last years MONK, with it's thrash metal guitar and vib ribbon solo, but here we are in the year of our lord 2023 and I'm listening to car clown horns. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM.

Bob Vylan - He's a Man Do y'all remember the Lindsay Lohan Freaky Friday movie? There was a great song in it called Take Me Away... anyway, I forget why I mentioned that, but this song is really fun.Great cheeky lyrics and love that guitar riff.

Fall Out Boy - Hold Me Like A Grudge This may just be a nostalgia pull, but that intro transported me back to hearing Dance, Dance for the first time. Hold Me Like A Grudge does a masterful job of pulling together elements of FOBs classic sound and their more recent poop sensibilities that has had me enjoying their sound in a way I haven't since Infinity On High

Evie Enby - Homies Oops, how did this get in here? Please appreciate the one note guitar solo.

FIZZ - I Just Died My general lack of enthusiasm for The Beatles is fairly well documented by this point, but one of the best things they did for pop music was use the clarinet on When I'm Sixty Four. Well good news, I no longer have to listen to The Beatles to get my clarinet fix. Now that the Beatles reference for this year's list is done.. I just died is a song about an absolutely mortifying experience delivered with great mirth. It's a fantastic, sing-along-in-the-shower bop, and have I mentioned the clarinet solo?

CLT DRP - I Put My Baby To Sleep (It's pronounced Clit Drip) What can I say, another explosive, genre defying, track by one of the best bands in the world. Now go listen to the entirety of Nothing Clever, Just Feelings.

Orla Gartland - Kiss Ur Face Forever Joyous, peppy and "let's play a game of emotional monopoly, in the name of monogamy" may be the best couplet I've heard this year. It's just fun, so much fun.

Bring Me The Horizon - LosT When LosT first dropped, I referred to it as the geccification of BMTH, I meant that in the best possible way. I really enjoy how the hyper-pop elements lift this track up. "The next time that I open up to someone will be my autopsy" is one of the finest Oli Sykes-isms we've had in a long time.

Swans - No More Of This Okay, so the actual Swans track that should be on this list is The Beggar Lover (Three) but apparently putting an uncompromising, nigh impenetrable, 43 minute long epic in the middle of a playlist is terrible for retention, and I'm a coward. But if you have a spare 50 minutes, go give it a listen.

Pupil Slicer - No Temple Pupil Slicer continue to prove themselves to be one of the most exciting bands in Mathcore. Pushing against the boundaries of genre in a genre where pushing against boundaries is a core philosophy, No Temple is, according to the band, the heaviest song they've ever written. The bass guitar work is an exceptional standout for me here as it pushes against the rest of the song.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Psychedelic Switch With every CRJ album project comes a B-sides album, and with every B-sides album comes an absolute banger. Psychedelic Switch is undoubtedly this for the Loneliest Time/Loveliest Time project. You'd be forgiven for thinking Daft Punk themselves reunited to produce this french disco flavoured bop.

Soft Play - Punk's Dead Who the fuck are Soft Play? Sound like a bunch of lefty snowflakes. I've missed these boys, doing this kind of thing. The Robbie Williams feature is inspired.

Chappell Roan - Red Wine Supernova Red Wine Supernova is sexy, self-assured, feel-good, sapphic fun. It's a testament to how good a song is that lyrics like "I heard you like magic, I've got a wand and a rabbit" doesn't detract from it, but actually elevates it's effortless charm.

JAAW - Rot JAAW are an industrial metal "supergroup" formed of members of Therapy, Three Trapped Tigers, Sex Swing and Biglad. That is likely mostly gibberish to the average music listener, but to a niche few, it's a very exciting prospect. What it sounds like is swelling, tumultuous walls of noise, tortured screams, screeching guitars and pulsing distorted bass. Catharsis through noise.

Better Lovers - Sacrificial Participant More supergroup! Greg Puciato teams up with ex-members of Every Time I Die and Will Putney (of Fit For an Autopsy). I was devastated by the split of ETID, (off the back of the phenomenal Radical adn jsut before I was due to see them live), but Better Lovers is one hell of a silver lining. Puciato's energetic vocals bounce wildly off of the erratic musicianship that was the cornerstone of ETID's sound. It's a perfect match on record and is even better live.

Architects - Seeing Red Bless Architects. They're a band that are truly a victim of their own success, as they've tried to pull their sound and ethos in new directions it's been met with a huge amount of negativity from their own fanbase. Seeing Red is a reaction to this. "You want heavy? Here's heavy. Are you happy now?". Blegh.

Teen Mortgage - Sick Day Sick Day is a 2 minute punk blitz about how you are worth so much more than your labour and how having a cute cat you want to look at is a perfectly valid reason to stay at home. Capitalism 0 - Cats 1.

Purity Ring, Black Dresses - Shines Purity Ring and Black Dresses are both Canadian electronic duos and that's about where the similarities stop, but that just makes this collaboration all the more interesting. There's so much going on here, the chaotic harsh frenetic noise of Black Dresses, Ada Rook's screams, the twinkling synths of Purity Ring and sing-song melodies of Megan James. Somehow it pulls together to create something of true beauty in its own weird way.

Dream Nails - Sometimes I Do Get Lonely, Yeah Dream Nails take on the rising issue of incel culture and red-pill ideology, with grace and empathy. Pointing fingers not at individuals but at the systems and powers that enable and create these pipelines to hatred and bigotry. It's a bold and challenging idea, executed superbly.

Baby Dave - Sounds Good When a fan sends you an unhinged voice message out of the blue offering you a bite suit and dogs to shoot a music video, obviously the thing to do is make a song out of it, then take them up on their offer and use it as the video for that song. There's a great OPM era The Streets vibe to this track that plays off nicely of the grounded reality of its subject.

Sleep Token - The Summoning Sleep Token do the impossible, they make prog-metal (the unsexiest of all genres) , undeniably sexy. Nowhere is this clearer than on The Summoning, a 6-and-a-half minute epic of a track with multiple time signature changes and tonal flips, that somehow still oozes with a swaggering sexuality throughout it's runtime. The out-of-nowhere funk switch up on the end of this track is perfection.

Lambrini Girls - Terf Wars Love those Lambrini Girls, they say what I'm thinking, and they say it loud.

Ezra Furman - Tether This one had me in floods of tears from the first listen. A classic string-laden piano ballad about inescapable pasts and the desire to cut yourself free from who and where you've been.

The St. Pierre Snake Invasion - That There's Fighting Talk This track does two things it builds and it STOMPS, like real "put on your heaviest boots and then strap lead weights to them because they need to be heavier" stomps. An industrial-mathcore floor-filler, the song crescendoes then continues to crescendo into ever greater insanity. Get Stomping.

Calva Louise - Third Class Citizen Calva Louise's sound has evolved so much since I first fell in love with the band listening to their 2017 debut single Getting Closer. Third Class Citizen has elements of Muse in it's bass-lines, stadium-sized guitar riffs and fizzing production. The vocals and lyrical content make it something altogether its own though, the palpable fury in vocalist Jess' voice as she demands "Respect, motherfucker" is real and visceral.

HEALTH - Unloved Off the back of their genre spanning, multi-release collaboration project, DISCO4, RAT WARS sees HEALTH back in a focused mode and delivering their heaviest album to date. Unloved is a moment of relative respite on the album though, a Depeche Mode tinged track, soaked in 80's reverb and ready for the goth club. HEALTH pull you into their world of misery and beauty with catchy hooks and pulsing bass.

Anohni and the Johnsons - Why Am I Alive Now This year saw the release of "My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross", Anohni's first studio album with her band since 2010's Swanlights. The abrasive electronics of her solo albums are traded in for warm soulful tones and a raw almost live-feeling instrumentation. It's a beautiful, deeply emotive, and incredibly present sounding album. Feeling as if you are being drawn into the recording process itself, Why Am I Alive Now? is an existential lament on finding purpose in a purposeless world, in navigating through suffering to find hope and love. On learning why to be, when it feels like the world is set on stopping you from being.

HMLTD - Wyrmlands THE WORM IS HERE! Wyrmlands is an example of one track on an album that should be listened to in its entirety. The Worm is a concept album at its most conceptual, eschewing genre and at times structure entirely in favour of narrative and ~vibes~. It's a dizzying disorientating listen, that will leave you' with more questions than answers, but thankful for making an attempt 're mind awash with unanswered questions and fresh ideas.

Billy Woods, Kenny Segal, Danny Brown - Year Zero Year Zero refers to an apocalyptic cultural reset. Society has reached a breaking point and we must start from scratch, everything before was for nothing. Billy Woods and Danny Brown play two different sides of the same coin. Woods, stony faced and deadly serious "My taxes pay police brutality settlements" is the herald of the end "Burn it down with us inside". Danny Brown, the manic joker, revelling in the freedom of a new world, rhyming Good Will Hunting with Cool Runnings and dropping bars about ice cream machines. It's a compelling way to deliver a narrative.
