An Alchemist Abroad Update! [10/10]
Chapter 7: It Takes Two to Burn a Bridge
Marcy and the Plantars finally arrive in Newtopia
This is part of the second ‘season’ of my Amphibia swap AU that started with A Witch in Wartwood. A swap AU focusing on Marcy if she landed near the outskirts of Wartwood.
This one’s an emotional one ya’ll. Just a heads up.
Also! I ran out of characters in the end notes, so I’m just going to put the questions and answers from last week beneath the readmore here.
I got a lot of sweet comments for the end of our pirate adventure last chapter. Thank you everyone new and old readers for your kudos and comments.
@PS_Tiernon had two incredibly flattering questions
How do you make sure the character progress hits just right?
So, first, so glad that it hits right. But also, I think a big part of it is making sure that the progress costs something? Changing for good or ill is a process and having it be earned I think is important.
How far in advance have you created these storylines?
Varies wildly by character. I had the main beats of Marcy's arc since I was outlining Season 1. This whole storyline for Sprig spawned while I was writing the penultimate scene chapter 19 of aWIW (Where Anne catches Hop Pop trying to steal the box). I realized that with Anne going to be exiting the story for a while in the finale there would be no one to really hold Hop Pop to account. Then while I was writing fort in the road, I realized I could give the whole thing nuance with Sprig being so blindly supportive of Marcy that he could hurt her without meaning to
@FruitDragon Re: Has Anne actually been getting the letters Marcy was writing to her, or am I missing something?
We do not know for sure!
@Jarul_9561 had a couple of questions What encouraged you to write this fic?/Where did you get the idea?
Honestly originally I had jumped into the fandom during the season 3 hiatus I was writing Picking up the Pieces when I saw a piece of Swap AU fanart by 5d-Theater (Where Marcy's Pre-Toad Tower and Sasha's armor Design came from). And my mind started clicking away at how much things could go differently. It became something I focused on so hard that I almost didn't write the finale for PutP. The more I sketched out the more I really liked how the swap would effect all three of the girls' arcs. My brain would not let it go, so I just gave in and started outlining season 1
Do you do this like a hobby or something of the sort bc I really like you writing, you either have an experience or a talent (maybe both)
Thank you so much! This is really flattering! To answer your question, I've been writing fanfic off and on since I was 14 there abouts? So it's been a while. I stopped for several years, but HRT absolutely obliterated my writers block as my brain chemistry finally started to work which was also coincidently back when I started watching Amphibia.

Longing
(TW: Implied suicidal ideation, potential self-harm, blood, references to death and being buried alive. It's a kinda heavy one)
Written for @flashfictionfridayofficial, I present Conor having angst:
This was not the type of place he ever lingered, if he had ever even visited. The very ground itself forbidden to him and him alone.
That was perhaps, not the truth, given that others, though few, shared his condition similarly enough, and it wasn’t as though it burned his very skin. But it took hold of something in his chest, wrapping it’s dark painful claws around that thing, and threatened to rip and tear until there was nothing left. And he had such little will to stop it.
That grip was not pity, nor grief. At least not for them.
It was not forbidden in the sense he could not touch it, because oh, had he so many times before. But he could not keep it, and it refused to keep him.
He was frozen, staring out over the rows and rows and rows of field and grass. Stones, statues, and simple markers some could only just afford stared back at him. Taunted him.
We offer rest. We offer peace. We hold memories and proof that they were loved and someone cared enough to place us here.
His fingers dug into cold, smooth stone, sapping away his blood’s warmth only slightly, until it cut and brought it hot to the surface.
You still bleed, and you still live. And you will forever.
Perhaps he should be grateful for them. They were, after all, evidence that the dead were not immediately burned or discarded or carved up or worse, sent to the waves, here. As such, he would only have to dig through the dirt to freedom if something went wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. Though those were often unmarked.
A group huddled around one now, a gaping dark hole in the otherwise well cared for ground. Or so he could imagine without being able to see through the bodies this far away, though not far enough for their cries to die in the wind before him.
Mourners.
On some shards people were assigned to if no one was there for the dead.
This groups’ grief was loud with many voices though, pressed tight together.
His teeth ground together and his jaw ached.
Lucky.
Perhaps he did have one out there somewhere. Perhaps someone who had seen him fall or heard somehow, but couldn’t find a body, added his name to one of the simple wooden stakes. Perhaps it was enough that they shed a single tear over it too. Perhaps they had even given him a last name.
But if anyone had, it would have been long lost to time.
Like he should’ve been.
If anyone had, it was a pointless gesture anyway. Proof they hadn’t known him long enough to understand. And all that would be left to show for it was a meaningless empty grave for one who could never fill it.

I can't tell which Byler confession I want more: the one where they're screaming at each other and then one just blurts it and the other is super taken aback and just like "wait, what?" or the super fluffy one where they're doing one of their signature staring into each other's eyes during a heart-to-heart and glancing at one another's lips and then just go "fuck it" and kiss.
Cause let's be real, they have a lot of shit built up and it's probably more likely to be angsty and dramatic which is honestly fine by me. But then the cute, romantic, staring at one another leading to them kissing would be fucking adorable too. In my mind, I could imagine Mike being the one to just kiss Will and give into his feelings for him and then Will being like super confused understandably. (Poor guy thinks that Mike's so head over heels for El and like the most heterosexual man.) So then Mike rambles about all his feelings to Will and how he didn't love El he loved him.
Like that'd be so cute.
But on the other hand they could be fighting about like everything and then Will's like "I love you!" and Mike just freezes and is like "what?" And then Will is just sobbing and word vomiting everything about the painting and just EVERYTHING and Mike listens and hugs him and then they kiss.
I can't decide. Help.

Shadow Demon
Item#: SCP-8092
Object Class: Keter
Threat Level: [REDACTED]
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8092 is to be kept in a standard 12 x 12 ft cell with one LED light inserted into each square foot of the ceiling to effectively cover every inch in light with no visible shadows. Each LED light must be replaced once every two weeks. If any LED light is to go out, observing personnel must report immediately to replace it as soon as possible. Under no circumstances are any shadows allowed near or inside the room.
As of Incident 8092-01, only one person is to enter the room at a time with no object on or around their person, wearing a simple jumpsuit without pockets or extra features.
As of Incident 8092-10, no objects are to be brought into the cell and/or left at any time under no circumstances. This includes but is not limited to tables, chairs, notepads, writing utensils, lab equipment, [REDACTED].
As of Incident 8092-16, [REDACTED] is not to be more than one mile away from SCP-8092's cell.
Description: SCP-8092 is a humanoid second-dimensional shadow that can transverse across any vertical surface and is capable of communicating verbally in any language. It’s previous whereabouts before containment are unknown, the only known location where it resided being [REDACTED].
While SCP-8092 can be mistaken for anyone’s shadow being cast upon a wall from natural light, including when they are walking, upon closer inspection it is revealed that the dark silhouette constantly shifts. The head may form small horns, an elongated nose, or abnormal mouth. The arms often morph into claws or tentacles. The legs become abnormally thin or seem to have different textures. If watched for a few seconds, the ‘shadow’ seems to waver.
When interacting with another object’s shadow cast upon a vertical surface, it is able to walk into it and then out of any other shadow within a mile radius, the second shadow needing to be cast upon another vertical surface as well.
Another object’s shadow can also be manipulated to be stretched out further even if the original light source is not moving. The object’s shadow can also be given extra features, including sharp spears, moving as fluid as water, and seemingly to have any kind of appendage including a human hand or leg extending out.
Only the shadow’s of objects can be manipulated, and it stays as a shadow on the vertical surface unless the object is physically touching the vertical surface, in which its shadow cast on any horizontal surface can be manipulated. However, if an object’s manipulated shadow comes into contact with a person’s shadow, the person will react as if a physical manifestation has interacted with them.
As of Incident 8092-01, a personnel had been ‘grabbed’ by a clawed hand that reached out from the shadow of a table pressed against a wall, the personnel’s shadow being grabbed by the hand before being yanked to the side, revealing the shadow of their leg in particular was in its grasp.
They were freed by the hand almost immediately after colliding with the wall and had been admitted to a medical examiner. Other than injuries from the collision, there were no visible signs of where SCP-8092 had grabbed their leg. They were released almost immediately.
Due to the belief it felt threatened by two personnel entering the room, protocol has changed to only one person inside the room at a time. There have been no further hostile actions since the updated protocol.
As of Incident 8092-10, the nineth attempt to establish a request for a ‘contract’ ended with a D-Class personnel being fatally injured. Previous to the interaction, it had been warned that drastic measures would be made if insufficient needs were met to create a ‘contract’ with another human. The only personnel provided with permission to create a ‘contact’ had been D-Class, and SCP-8092 noted it can not accept personnel considered expendable.
After attempting to create a ‘contract’, SCP-8092 created a clawed hand that extended from the table’s shadow and swiftly swiped it through the D-Class personnel’s shadow. Within moments, the D-Class personnel [REDACTED] across the floor. Retrieval of the body was not hindered by SCP-8092 who allowed multiple personnel to come into the room at one time.
Due to the warning of future identical fatal interactions with D-Class personnel, protocol has changed to strictly no objects inside the room under any circumstances. There have been verbal frustrations over this update from SCP-8092, stating there had been multiple warnings previous to the incident.
As of Incident 8092-16, SCP-8092 can manifest itself as a full three-dimensional entity. As long as [REDACTED] stays within a mile radius, it can take the form of a 5’9” tall 40 year old male with a strong physique. Its eyes are pure white without pupils, teeth perfectly straight and abnormally white, with the rest of its body a dark purple from head to toe including long hair worn in a ponytail. It wears the site’s janitorial uniform consisting of a short sleeve shirt, pants, and work shoes also the same color purple.
The shadow of [REDACTED] can also be manipulated and utilized in the third dimension. This includes creating a protective shield that is unable to be broken and creating [REDACTED] used to protect [REDACTED] if it is determined there is a threat.
SCP-8092 can switch between both forms at its will, though physical contact to a vertical surface is needed before it go back to its shadow form.
Full report of Incident 8092-16 is classified and can only be accessed by those with a Level 4 security clearance.
