Do any of you use Save the Cat beat sheets for your plotting? I just watched Jessica Brody’s video and I feel like I’m more confused.
What plotting methods do y’all use? I usually try to go for Kat O’Keefes 3 act 9 block 27 scene structure (is it hers? Idk she’s where I saw it) but I’m always looking for new ideas

"You had other options"

So the reasons for this months favourite book covers for the four different categories are:
Secrets that we Keep: I like how this cover has a bit of a gothic look along with the way the roses look.
The World’s that Separated Us: Yet again this book has a very dark and intriguing look about it making me want to know more about it.
Meet Me in Hawaii: Well this is the only NetGalley book this months, but you have to admit that this cover is enticing as well as chasing away the winter blues.
Death Retires: I just had to choose this cover as I love sugar skulls and anything to do with the Day of the Dead. This book cover had no competition.

Can you please talk about how you handle the writing? Like the fact, that first drafts are far from perfect and how you deal with that pressure (if you feel it at all)? How do you plan your work and what do you do if it goes the wrong way? Because honestly this responsibility to make everything decent is killing me and I can't continue. I like you so much and wish you all the sweetest hours of inspiration
first of all - thank you
anyway, this is the first time i’ve ever managed to write so many words of an original story, so i’m certainly not greatly qualified to give writing advice! but anyway.
first drafts: i guess what you need to remember is that it’s a first draft. it is always going to be a bit shit. in fact, it needs to be a bit shit otherwise there’s no room for improvement. what i’ve been doing for the past eight months is just ploughing through it, trying to write regularly and not fall into the painful pit of ‘this is terrible what’s the point????’ that’s a really hard thing to do (esp when you have exams lmao) but it does work and its the writing advice that i’ve been given by every published author i’ve talked to. i’ve only just realised this myself, but i also think its good to write as fast as you can. eg. this last week i wrote 10k. last year that would have taken me a solid two months. the quicker you write the sooner its done - and the higher your word count gets the more confident you get!
planning: okay, confession time. i did not plan iphigenia until…about…one month ago. i had a very rough idea of where i was going in my head, but i had no real plan or end point initially. i think thats one of the reasons why i initially had so much trouble with writing! planning does help with first drafts as well as it just guides you and you know that if you’re stuck there are always other scenes you can switch to.
the planning system i’m using is an odd mix. i first just put down a skeleton plan (maybe five bullets), and then more or less use kat o’keefe’s ‘blocks plan’  which is amazing. then (while writing, as i get near to the point) for each block i do a far more in depth plan with dialogue, action and thought ideas as well as the storyline. these three plans all go in different docs so i can refer to them separately depending on how detailed a plan i need at that point.
anyway i hope this is helpful! (its certainly long) and good luck!

We’d like to take time this International Women’s Day to highlight the fantastic female artists, technicians, and leaders who do so much work on Our Fair City every single day.
Tumblr only allows 10 pictures in a set, or this post would go on for a VERY long time-there are so many more who have worked on this show.  As writers, they have created and defined the world of HartLife.  As actors, they have created fierce, brilliant, fallible, and funny characters.  As designers and directors of our live experiences, they have brought the world of the Company into the real world.
Without the leadership, craft, and labor of these (and many, many more) female artists, Our Fair City would not exist.
Go out and support female and nonbinary artists in audio drama, podcasting, fiction, fine art, and every single other medium.
Pictures, from the top:
Betsey Palmer (Director of Live Events), Stephanie Spence (Writer), Steph Charaska (Episode Artist, Board Member Emeritus)
Marsha Harman (Doctor Emily Caligari, Various)
Kat Evans (Dora, Loamy, Lindsey, Various)
Robin Billadeau (Episode Artist, Staff Member Emeritus)
Nina O’Keefe (Alison Dalton)
Ginneh Thomas (Veronika Hasher, The Professor)
Lauren Faits (The Queen of the Ants, Limey the Mole, Staff Member Emeritus)
Danielle Tanimura (Episode Artist)
Stephanie Murphy (Hopper, Dean Gates, Various)
Catherine Cefalu (Stage Manager, Floor Manager)

Dreaming Healing, Again!
Featuring Kathleen (Kat) O’Keefe-Kanavos
By combining the intuitive aspects of healing with modern medicine, I had a prescription for healing that was greater than the sum of its individual parts.
Unable to sit still, I wait at this world-renowned hospital for my mammogram to be read in front of me. I’m scared out of my mind but not sure why. The moment reminds me of a dream I had five years…

June was an exceptionally busy, but fun month for me. My birthday falls in early June, which means lots of shiny new books for me, and I also spent a lot of time with family and friends. Despite being super busy, I managed to read 12 books in June.
  Books I read
Jade City by Fonda Lee (review)
This is How you Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
Saga vol. 9 by Brian K. Vaughn & Fiona Staples
Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell
Atlas Alone by Emma Newman (review)
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey (review)
Gumiho/Wicked Fox by Kat Cho (review)
The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh
Sorcerer to the Crown  by Zen Cho
The Van Apfel Girls are Gone by Felicity McLean
Bone China by Laura Purcell
Of the 12 books I read this month, three of them were audiobooks and six were advance copies. Not bad! I really feel like I’m starting to get the ARC situation in hand (at least more in hand than it has been for years) and I’m reading ahead of publication dates. Go me!
I read a lot of great stuff this month, but I think Atlas Alone, Bone China, Gumiho, and Jade City were my favourites. Reviews for every book, with the exception of Saga because I don’t tend to review ongoing graphic novel series, will be live soon! I’m also on the blog tour for The Kingdom and This is How You Lose the Time War, so keep an eye out for those in July.
  Books I bought
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie
Fleet of Knives by Gareth L. Powell
Monsters:The passion and loss that created Frankenstein by Sharon Dogar
The Sharp Edge of a Snowflake by Sif Sigmarsdóttir
Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn
How to Life Safely in a Science Fiction Universe by Charles Yu
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
The Last Bus to Everland by Sophie Cameron
Priest of Bones by Peter McLean
A lot of book purchasing happened this month! Some are from a wee shopping trip I did with my mum (book buying runs in the family), and a fair few were one-off purchases. I think I’m most excited to read The Sharp Edge of a Snowflake, Fleet of Knives, and Middlegame.
  Birthday books!
Emily Eternal by M.G. Wheaton
Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell
The Furies by Kate Lowe
Other Words for Smoke by Sarah Maria Griffin
The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal
Before They are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie
The Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie
Endymion by Dan Simmons
Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb
Blood of Assassins by R. J. Barker
Malice by John Gwynne
The Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black
Want by Cindy Pon
Velocity Weapon by Megan O’Keefe
The Tiger and the Wolf by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Hooray for birthday presents and giftcards!!  I had a very bookish birthday this year and received a bunch of bookish birthday presents. I also got a Waterstones giftcard, which went toward rebuying some beloved books I don’t own anymore — specifically the Joe Abercrombie and Robin Hobb books you see above.
  Book post
Crowfall by Ed McDonald
Guimo/Wicked Fox by Kat Cho
Night of Stars by Tom Lloyd
The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang
Days of Future Past by Alex Irvine
A Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco
Verify by Joelle Charbonneau
The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy
Jade War by Fonda Lee
The Last Astronaut by David Wellington
The Nightjar by Deborah Hewitt
The Bone Garden by Heather Kassner
The Hills have Spies by Mercedes Lackey
Eye Spy by Mercedes Lackey
June was an amazing month for book post! There’s a whole ton of stuff to love here, but I am most excited for The Dragon Republic (of course), Jade War (also, of course), Crowfall, and A Never Tilting World. I’m going to do my best to read everything before the publication date, although that’s pretty unrealistic. Pub dates for these books range from June to November!
That’s it for this month’s wrap up. What did you read in June? Have you read any of these or are they in your TBR? Let me know!
Check out all the books I read and acquired in the month of June (hint: it's a lot). Reading Wrap-Up: June 2019 #bookbloggers June was an exceptionally busy, but fun month for me. My birthday falls in early June, which means lots of shiny new books for me, and I also spent a lot of time with family and friends.

This past Wednesday was an incredibly special day for me. Both as a book lover and a blogger. I was given the opportunity to attend Indigo’s Fall 2017 YA Preview event in Toronto. This blog post will detail the event itself and some of the books discussed, so you can have them on your radar and pre-order some of the ones you’re most excited about!
PS: If you’d like to see more photos and meet some of the other bloggers at the event, make sure to search for the hashtag #IndigoYAPreview on both Twitter and Instagram!
I arrived just at 5pm, where a bunch of fellow bloggers from the area were waiting to be let in around the entrance. We were soon invited upstairs, where a beautifully decorated room awaited us! We received the most warm welcome from the Indigo team, who had our name tags ready to go, a catered table of bagels and veggies, bubbly beverages and snacks galore! And of course, books everywhere!
We started the event with a bit of a mingling and eating session, where everyone was able to catch up and meet other bloggers! Shout out to my table-mate and amazing fellow booktuber Erika, who I hadn’t seen in ages! It’s always a pleasure to catch up with fellow book influencers.
Then we moved into sharing some brief introductions, of both the bloggers and the Indigo team conducting the events of the evening. It was great to meet the faces behind all the work we see on social media and also from the many stores around the GTA. Shout out to Ameema (Ajax), Shannon (Eaton Center), Taylor (Richmond Hill), Sydney (Eaton Center) and Teresa (Barrie), who came all the way downtown to gush about books with us!
Then….we talked about all the books! Below is a quick list with some brief notes on what you can expect this Fall season!
1. Highly Anticipated Novels:
These are the titles that everybody and their mothers can’t wait to get their hands on! I may or may not have some of these pre-ordered already…ops.
The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur – October 3, 2017
Turtles All The Way Down by John Green – October 10, 2017
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas – September 5, 2017
Renegades by Marissa Meyer – November 7, 2017
2. No Filter:
This was my absolute favourite part of the night. We had Brandon, Chelsey, and Tina from the Indigo team explain to us about this new and exciting initiative in stores. A new table will be set up in the major store locations (others to follow in October) all about books with #NoFilter, written by smart and innovative young writers who are breaking the mold on what books can be; they are the voices of young people overcoming struggle and pushing boundaries. These books would often fall into too many categories, such as being a Young Adult book that is also a Memoir and discusses Well-Being. Where would these books go? Well, now they have a home! And in great company! A lot of these titles have been on my radar or are already on my shelves!
Love Her Wild by Atticus – Out Now
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – Out Now
Depression & Other Magic Tricks by Sabrina Benaim – Out Now
Lighter Than My Shadow by Katie Green – October 3, 2017
You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero – Out Now
Unlearn: 101 Simple Truths for a Better Life by Humble the Poet – October 31, 2017
Love & Misadventure by Lang Leav – Out Now
Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately by Alicia Cook – Out Now
Unlearn by Humble the Poet is due to come out in an exclusive partnership with Indigo! The cover we were shown at the event was different than the one I’ve listed, but I was not able to find the new one online. It must have been a secret…
3. Great Books for YA Explorers:
These are the titles that YA Lovers would likely really enjoy, if they’re willing to step outside of just YA fiction into essays, memoirs, humor, and other categories. I can’t give enough praise and love to ODWABDANOTWM by Scaachi Koul and Trust No Aunty by Maria Qamar.
Courage is Contagious: And Other Reasons to Be Grateful for Michelle Obama edited by Nick Haramis – October 24, 2017
Trust No Aunty by Maria Qamar – Out Now
One Day We’ll All Be Dead And None of This Will Matter by Scaachi Koul – Out Now
We Are Never Meeting In Real Life by Samantha Irby – Out Now
Bad Feminist (Paperback, Olive/Pink Edition) by Roxane Gay – October 10, 2017
Lady Stuff: Secrets to Being a Woman by Loryn Brantz – September 26, 2017
Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert’s Story by Debbie Tung – November 7, 2017
Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen – Out Now
I am specially excited for Courage is Contagious and Quiet Girl in a Noisy World. That new Bad Feminist cover is also speaking to me…
4. Great New Contemporary:
Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu – September 19, 2017
They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera – September 5, 2017
Release by Patrick Ness – September 19, 2017
Kat and Meg Conquer The World by Anna Priemaza – November 7, 2017
A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck – September 26, 2017
Top Ten by Katie Cotugno – October 3, 2017
Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart – September 5, 2017
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds – October 17, 2017
5. Great New Fantasy:
La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust #1) by Philip Pullman – October 19, 2017
One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake – September 19, 2017
The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo – September 16, 2017
The Tiger’s Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera – October 3, 2017
The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli – October 3, 2017
Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust – September 5, 2017
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – November 14, 2017
Fireblood (Frostblood Saga #2) by Elly Blake – September 12, 2017
We heard amazing praise for The Tiger’s Daughter from Angel, who vouched for this amazing Mongolian inspired fantasy queer story (not YA). The City of Brass was also compared to Uprooted by Naomi Novik, and Girls Made of Snow and Glass got amazing raves as a feminist Snow White retelling.
6. Great New Science Fiction:
Artemis by Andy Weir – November 14, 2017
Warcross by Marie Lu – September 12, 2017
The Empress by S.J. Kincaid – October 31, 2017
Otherworld by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller – October 31, 2017
Nyxia by Scott Reintgen – September 12, 2017
Satellite by Nick Lake – October 3, 2017
This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada – November 7, 2017
Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray – Out Now
Nyxia got amazing praise from Taylor, who described it as the best combination of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Ender’s Game. She also gave a shout out to Otherworld (which I’m very excited for, as a huge Jason Segel fan), adding that the story is an interesting mix of sci-fi and fantasy.
7. Great New Paranormal and Dystopia:
All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater – October 10, 2017
Monster by Michael Grant – October 17, 2017
The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin – November 7, 2017
Siege of Shadows by Sarah Raughley – November 21, 2017
Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel – September 5, 2017
That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston – October 3, 2017
Overall I’d say a good portion of the people at the event had only amazing things to say about That Inevitable Victorian Thing, even though it doesn’t quite fall under the paranormal or dystopian categories.
8. Under The Radar:
These are books that deserve more praise than what they have been getting thus far! Stories were shared of people sobbing uncontrollably after reading The Mosaic. As you know, The Nowhere Girls has been on my radar for a while!
The Agony of Bun O’Keefe by Heather Smith – September 5, 2017
The Lives of Desperate Girls by MacKenzie Common – September 19, 2017
The Bloodprint by Ausma Zehanat Khan – October 3, 2017
Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi – October 31, 2017
Invictus by Ryan Graudin – September 26, 2017
Runebinder by Alex R. Kahler – November 14, 2017
The Mosaic by Nina Berkhout – Out Now
The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed – October 10, 2017
9. Upcoming YA Events:
There are some amazing events coming up in Canada that need to be shared!
Tumblr media
Becky Albertalli, Julie Murphy, and Angie Thomas will be in Dartmouth (September 8, 7pm), in Oshawa (September 9, 4pm) and Yorkdale (September 11, 7pm).

Your Dreams with The Queen of Dreams- Kat Kanavos
Tumblr media
Have you had a de’je-vue or a dream come true? Now, I trust the Power of Dreams in my waking world.” Kat spoke about her dreams on the Dr. OZ show. Kat has a degree in Psychopathology and taught Psychology at USF, Fort Myers Branch. She’s a Video Show Host, Internationally Syndicated Columnist, writing/publishing coach, Performance Coach, and Dream Expert.
