annihilation mentions a crab with a human face on it, the face of one of the past expedition members. meanwhile the crabs in elden ring above godwyns corpse are mutating to have his face on their backs

godwyn himself feels like hes inspired by the crawler to me. underground, infecting the entire rest of the land, passively and clear without reason, maybe instinctevly? but also he seems to be a horrific mix of biology. between clams, fish, man, flies, and treeroots, hes become this mash of concepts. just touching him could implant death in you

the mimic tears themselves feel like a very direct concept. annihilation has several instances of people being copied

the erdtree itself too seems to follow the same idea of annihilation. in annihilation, a meteor crashes on earth and whats in the meteor begins to warp and change the world around its range growing more and more, everything under its gaze is not immune to it

its heavily implied that the erdtree itself crashed into the lands between, and from this, it began to take over (with the help of marika). the greater will wants nothing more than to expand its control over the land and bend those to its will.

thematically too, the erdtree is kind of like a lighthouse, right? visible from all of the lands between shining its light, it serves as a reminder and as a reference point to its inhabitants

I like For Good a normal amount (narrator: ghaH in fact liked for good too much for their own good) and in the context of the song this is about permanence and it’s ultimately about the way that they still care even tho they’re not on the same side now.

okay so for me the obvious answer is mirrorverse and specifically I really want a mirrorverse pin-lee and bharadwaj relationship fic about the way pin-lee is currently dealing with the aftermath of That Incident (no spoilers here lol) (this is blatantly dangling a lure in front of certain people’s faces). unfortunately I already wrote that lolllllllllllllllll

next most obvious answer is city spies fic lol and I think this is actually what I’d do if I wanted to use this title. I hate Clementine but this would be a very good title for a fic where clementine looks at mother and sees what happened and how he’s never stopped looking for her while he looks at her and realizes she also hated it so much and wanted to give him the kids back

I could also see it as that Monty/Magpie fic I keep threatening certain folk with. This time it’s a tragedy, though:

Alexandra Montgomery, spy in training. She was Lexi then, not Alexandra. Not Monty, who she will become. And she, in training, meets the coolest person ever. Virginia “Ginny” Wescott, camera geek. Lexi is a computer and math geek, so they get along very well and start dating.

A few months later, they have to split for their first assignment. They keep in touch, of course, but the spark fizzles and the gap between calls starts to widen until it becomes too much.

they meet just once, in the intervening years. Two weeks they both have off. There’s little catching up to do, in the spy world. Too much to keep secret. So they catch up in the only way they know how. They spar (Ginny throws her to the ground and laughs as she tells Lexi of a boxer in Thailand), they play chess (Monty tells of a child her best friend mentors teaching her a new opening), they stay up late to read with each other and occasionally trade the best lines to break the silence.

They don’t talk about work.

The next time they see each other, it’s in a closed room, waiting to be debriefed about the Sylvia Earle. Dr. Alexandra Montgomery, guardian of two of the children caught in the middle, and Virginia Wescott, the famous documentary filmmaker. They can’t acknowledge they know each other. Monty is not supposed to tell her girls she knows the filmmaker, they aren’t supposed to know who the other agent was. Virginia won’t reveal Monty if her kids don’t know.

So they simply talk about the documentaries. Monty’s seen every one of them, but she picks out the one she saw with Sydney and Kat last spring, and another she knows Ginny loves to talk about.

(If they’d talked then, perhaps it would have changed things.)

Monty and her children go to Oxford. Monty brings Sydney and Paris to meet Fletch, her old graduate advisor. She deflects whenever he asks about that girlfriend of hers.

They go to San Francisco. Monty checks out some places on her own. She’s knocked out, a bag over her head and hands tied, and brought to Magpie. She looks up and sees her beloved Ginny, frowning.

Monty never did know when to leave well enough alone.
