6. If they were badly injured, and for whatever reason couldn't go to a hospital, who would they go to for help?

Valdemar has been an option in the past, and still is. They have been around for Marcus Aquila's entire life and due to eir past of being rather into equestrian sports there have been serious injuries. Who better to piece a broken body back together?

Though, if Miloš @sharp-fawngz is an option he is, of course, eir first choice for aid.

9. When they're sick what do they do to feel better?

Marcus Aquila prefers to go home to the main estate when ey is ill. It's more peaceful and further away from eir job that keeps them in the city proper.

It also spares em the stress of having eir mother invade eir home in the city and rearranging everything to suit her tastes, complaining to em all the while as she tries to tend to em. At least there it is her domain and she can more peacefully go about her nursing em back to health.

Marcus will rest and read through eir recovery.

34. How well do they deal with grief?

If there is anything Marcus Aquila has learned from working with Valdemar for so long it's that people are gonna die, and sometimes it's better that they do. They suffer less.

That being said, grief is a stress that Marcus Aquila has dealt with, concerning people around emself. Ey tends to throw emself into doing something, anything, that isn't sitting around crying. When eir father died ey became the head of the House, so ey threw emself into the duties that surrounded that. When Miloš got the plague and was almost certainly going to die, ey immediately began planning on how to get him out of the laboratories so he could at least die somewhere peaceful and comfortable.

looking for a fic read years ago

I can’t find it anymore and it’s driving me crazy because I’m half thinking I’ve imagined it at this point.

Fandom: The Eagle/Eagle of the Ninth

Pairing: Marcus/Esca

Plot: it’s like a retelling of the story but with more space and introspection given to Esca’s condition. He also leaves at some point and builds a life in a Celtic village to understand if he really wants to be with Marcus without being forced to be by the circumstances (he does). It was pretty long.

Anyone remembers it?? I can’t find it on A03 and we aren’t that many in the fandom…

7. Do they have any unusual fears?

Marcus Aquila has some fears that are relatively common on the surface level, but the details make it an unusual situation. Such as;

Ey fear for eir younger siblings' health, because they have albinism and there are a myriad of health issues that can come along with that.

Ey fears for the future of eir family, because it's wrapped up in Valdemar and ey doesn't really know what trouble that's going to bring.

11. Do they have any addictions?

Marcus Aquila is the only one who has something that might look like an addiction, eir cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption.

20. Do they have a strong connection to their culture?

Heron

Heron is a person of mixed ancestry to begin with. This often leads to something of a disconnect on it's own, but he lives his life in Vesuvia and understands the culture of Vesuvia is very much mixed all on it's own. His father did involve him in the community of the Van Suan ex-pats, but due to his nature as a Clockwork Soul he has very little day-to-day interactions with others of that culture. In a culinary sense Heron makes food from both cultures constantly, sometimes mixing them casually.

Marcus

Marcus Aquila is a Vesuvian noble and was raised as such. As with all nobility, there are rules of conduct and traditions one has to be aware of. Being a praefectus has it's own rules and traditions as well. I'd say that ey are very well connected to the culture of Vesuvian nobles and court culture.

Hjordis

Hjordis is indeed strongly connected to her culture as a Scourgewoman. Nomadic and still warlike, but knowing that many of the aspects of the way of life of her parent's generation, and beyond into the past, are no longer sustainable. There are many things to leave behind.

Thank you!! So sorry for taking so long with this one - it took me forever to think of something half-decent (for three sentences, I know, I know).

When Marcus woke from Galarius' draught, the first thing he saw clearly was Esca's face, pale and tired in the lamplight, the great dark shadows beneath his eyes betraying how late it must be.

"Esca," he murmured, "have you been keeping watch over me all this time?"

"All this time," agreed Esca, pressing a cool cloth to his brow, "and as long as needs be."
