KAT!! i finally had the time to read evening star and let me just say i knew it!!!!!!! me and y/n are in the same wavelength when it comes to suspects and speaking of her, poor little thing. i like that you kept it realistic that she doesn't have a clue how to actually fight and do all those running away things on her on bc let's be honest is very very unlikely that any princess would and it's fun to watch her learn stuff as she goes, i would even go as far as saying it makes it more relatable (? no really the word but you know what i mean). now changing topics completely i have to say idk who i ship more 😭😭😭😭 i'm a bit biased (literally lol) with minho but THE SCENE WHERE CHAN IS ABOVE Y/N:&7;7;7;78; i literally had to hold my breath like!!! are they gonna kiss??? are we even supposed to WATCH THIS!???

and idk why but i was hoping minho would be much more inviting?? like from the beginning and all, but i think it make much more sense the way you did it, especially bc minho himself has that cold prince vibe to him. also it makes the scene with him and y/n on his garden very cute to me, like he's keeping that cold façade but it's like 2s alone with her and he becomes soft spoken KDKDKJDJ and also 2.0: i would be mad too if someone got to my house and insulted me like ?? bangchan gets a pass bc oh my the man has gone though it (and lets be honest he's quiet jealous lol) but in the words of the very wise taylor swift 'you need to come down' babe!

YESS MINHOOOKDNDKSNXKSKXKSNDKDND i had a few reasons for writing minho the way i did at the beginning/when yn ans chan first meet him but i dont wanna say too much even if its not too spoilery HAHA but yeah afterwards, a lot of the interactions between chan and minho are kinda like. 'well he started it!!' so they just back and forth w their rude shit 💀💀 absolute CHILDREN smh but im!! glad u mentioned the garden scene hehe i really liked writing that scene but im not sure how i feel about it. like on one hand it feels forced/out of character (???? its literally your character kat how is it ooc) but on the other, like you mentioned, it reveals another side of him???

Hey sorry if this is a weird question but what are your thoughts on shipping in the AOD fandom? Like for me i dont really like any ships between the main cast (aside from maybe ray/eddie) because they're all like a found family methinks BUT i still like to ask whenever i find AOD people

oh how I have waited for this >:)

(warning this gets very ramble-y toward the end, but I stand by what I said lol)

Personally, I’m not huge on ‘shipping’ per se, but I do love exploring different characters relationships and interactions, and from that I have a few pairings, though most of mine aren’t exactly romantic, because I think throwing in a whole “they do this because they’re in loOove” cheapens the story a bit. More on that later.

1. CATHY + LUCY

of course I had to start with these two, I think they’re the most prominent ship with, like, any in-text evidence. I find Lucy’s devotion and obsession with Cathy to be interesting, but I don’t really think Cathy feels (or even has the capacity to feel) the same. The ep.0 storyline shows a lot of evidence towards this, though we can see that Cathy does take Lucy’s emotions into consideration when she chooses her as her first personal murder, so there may be more to that relationship than meets the eye. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the power imbalance between the pair, but I still like seeing content for it!

2. CATHY + DANNY

okay. I will admit that this is one of my favorites, but mainly in a these-two-are-both-terrible-people-and-would-be-horrible-for-each-other-but-their-interactions-are-funny kind of way. They are my exception ship in every way, especially with all the content we see of them together in the ep.0 storyline. I like that they are more equal in a sense that they both think the other is beneath them, so their banter is top tier. Also. They are both extremely hot. Together they would be unstoppable but they’d also probably end up killing each other. Underrated ship imo, even if it is toxic as hell and not super romantic (or even platonic lol)

3. EDDIE + RACHEL

I get where the hype for this one comes from, because he says he loves her and they’re around the same age and aesthetically they do look really cute together, but it’s really just not my thing ship-wise. I think that how Eddie’s attachment to Rachel is explored in the games is more to shows Eddie’s personality than anything, and we get to see that he is desperate for something to calls his own. He projects a lot of his own emotions on to Rachel, without much regard for her actual feelings. I get major “nice-guy” vibes from him, and as someone who had a friend in school who put me in a similar situation, which I think is where my icks about these two comes from. That being said, I still love seeing fanart of the two!

4. EDDIE + GIRL (spoilers for ep eddie)

(The girl from episode Eddie) I think I ship these two more than I do eddieray, bc at least the girl in this game wanted Eddie to kill her. I do think the reason Eddie gets so attached to Rachel in the first place is because of his past relationship with the girl, I think Ray became a bit of a replacement for her after she was brought to the building by Danny. Anyways they’re cute together, and there’s even some adorable little sprites of him helping her walk that I love.

5. GRAY + ANYONE FROM THE SERIES

The only person I ship gray with is myself. (JOKING)

(I also don’t see myself shipping Shin from ep.0 with anyone either, but maybe that’ll change as more volumes are released. )

6. DANNY + ZACK

I have seen a surprising amount of content for this one. 10/10 crackship, it makes me laugh every time I see it.

7. CATHY + ZACK

not my thing. Again, weird power dynamic makes it hard for me to enjoy this one even as a joke. I also project a lot onto Zack (lol) and the way Cathy treats him is …. well

8. DANNY + RACHEL

no.

And finally,

9. ZACK + RACHEL

some people will probably be confused as to why I’m bringing this one up on a ship post, but since it’s such a divisive relationship in this fandom I can’t just leave it out ya know? And I have some thoughts on their relationship as a whole so it’s going in the list.

I do NOT ship these two romantically, I think that they fit more into the category of found family, but that even that label doesn’t quite fit the dynamic.

They’re closer than friends but they’re barely even acquaintances. (they’ve known each other for like 3~ days!) They would both die and kill for each other. They understand each other on a level that no other person in their world ever could. Through their shared experiences, they survived layer after layer of hell and challenged “god” in his own church.

I think what’s most profound to me is that the catalyst for their relationship is Zack yelling out a promise he doesn’t even realize he’s making. That’s the only thing that made Rachel choose Zack to kill her over Eddie, and from there we get to watch these two unlikely allies struggle through the first genuine connection either of them has had for years. They’re parallels, and we get more insight to that as they make their way through different puzzles. As the game progresses, we see Rachel’s past get darker and darker, while there is light shed on Zack’s in turn. It really makes you wonder what sort of thing classifies a person as innocent or guilty, and whether you can truly judge a person shaped by their experiences.

Obvious issues of the ZR ship aside, I do get a little annoyed when fans that do ship it water their relationship down to “and then she grew up and they kissed” or some shit like that because I feel like they’ve missed the entire point of the story. Anyways.

Queer-platonic-relationship Zack and Rachel is probably the closest I could describe their relationship to fit my own personal perception of these two. Especially with my aroace Zack hc and the canonical trauma both of them went through at the hands of their parents. I think it would be incredibly hard for either of them to actually have a romantic relationship with anyone, but there’s no way they would ever live without each other if they escaped together and lived in the end.

IF I’M OKAY WITH IT?! Anon, I feel like I have been waiting my entire life for this ask. I could literally talk about this hug for the rest of my existence. I would talk about this hug every second of every day if I could and never get tired or bored. This hug has owned my entire heart from the moment that it happened and I can never get enough of it. Brace yourself for this essay, and remember that you asked for it...

Okay, so before I get to the actual hug, I want to talk for a minute about why I love it so much and also how fantastic the scene is that comes before it. I’ll try to keep both of those brief (LOL). If you want to skip to the hug breakdown, I’ll give the sections titles.

Why I Love This Hug

So, why do I love this hug so much? Honestly, because I never in a million years thought we’d get something like it, and it was a big turning point for me.

I have not been quiet about how disappointing I think season 1 was. Too much Owen being Owen, too much Iris plot (which never interested me for even a single moment, unfortunately), not enough of the other characters - specifically the characters of color - and definitely not enough Tarlos.

Following episode 3, the show established a really frustrating pattern with Tarlos: they either never interacted with one another, or there was a moment of them at the end of an episode where they were in the same place physically but never spoke directly to one another. Frustration doesn’t even begin to describe the Tarlos talking drought between episodes 3 and 10 - and honestly? It’s bad writing. To focus on a ship for 3 episodes, giving them a lot of different nuances and conflict, and then do absolutely nothing with it? Stupid. So, going into the finale, my expectations were low. At that point, I was literally tuning in just to catch a glimpse of Carlos, with the expectation that that was all I would get. I really didn’t think I was going to watch the show after season 1.

When the finale started with a Tarlos scene, I was honestly very surprised. But, then, of course, it was a “break up” scene, and I was like... well. So much for that. See, I fully expected, based on the trend throughout the later half of the season, that that would be the only Tarlos scene we would get, and that that is how they would end season 1.

But when that camera cut to Carlos Reyes walking through the station door looking like a modern-day motherf*cking Prince Charming? I cried. I’m not ashamed to admit that. And then WHEN WE GOT THE HUG?! I can honestly still feel my heart pounding in my chest.

The finale didn’t fix everything for me; they still barely talk in their final two scenes. It’s not all perfect. But this hug, this small moment? THAT. IS. PERFECTION. (And I’m gonna go on and on about why in just a minute!)

Framing the Hug

I just want to take another moment here to chat about the entire fire station scene with TK and the team/Carlos because there’s a lot that informs why this hug is so freaking incredible. It has everything to do with the directing choices that were made - and boy were they good ones!

We all probably remember how the scene starts: extreme close-ups on TK as he sits waiting for the crew to come back. He’s anxious and possibly having a mild panic attack, and the camera is used to create that moment. Certain shots are out of focus, the shots that are focused are zoomed in to his mouth/hands/eyes, the sound is distorted, his breathing is isolated. It’s all super effective.

So the observations that I make about this brief moment are: TK is stationary, the camera is basically attacking him. And TK is alone. Pretend for a moment that the camera is a character. The camera won’t leave him alone. No one is there to help him. His anxiety grows.

(Even when the team joins him, the camera stays pretty close to him, except for one moment where it backs off but then approaches again. It continues to invade his personal space and his personal moments with his friends and his dad.)

Now, compare that to how the scene ends: TK walks away from the camera, the camera doesn’t follow him. It gives him space. His interaction with Carlos happens in the distance. If the camera is a character, TK defeated that character. He leaves it there, it no longer threatens him. I just really like that visual storytelling; that through the 4 minute scene, TK not only faces his demons, speaks his truth, and conquers his anxiety but he beats the camera and goes off to hug Carlos untethered. (He even bounces towards him, but we’ll get to that in a minute.) That doesn’t really have anything to do with the hug specifically, but I thought it was interesting anyway.

The other comparison that I want to make is a simple one, but it’s another reason why I love the hug: TK initiates it. He doesn’t initiate the group hug with his team (he actually almost says “we don’t have to do that” when Mateo moves towards him), though he obviously enjoys it. Owen initiates their hug, flinging himself at his son, and TK obviously appreciates it.

But the Carlos hug? TK approaches him, TK raises his arm to wrap around Carlos’s neck.

Okay, now to finally answer the original ask...

LET’S HUG IT OUT: THE BREAKDOWN THAT WAS ASKED FOR

First, can I just say from his first appearance to the end of this scene, Carlos is there for 20 seconds total and I am about to write a whole-ass essay about those 20 seconds?! I’m literal trash.

Okay, so Carlos appears looking like a fucking snack. He’s changed since the bus accident, looking like someone’s hot date, and I think we know whose... Owen is basically like “well this is unexpected” and honestly, same sir. TK is adorable and noncommittal, but clearly not surprised to see Carlos there. We’ve missed a moment between them since TK was sent to the hospital and Carlos called him impressive, that’s for sure.

So when TK starts to walk towards him, the camera refocuses on Carlos and we see this adorable freaking look on his face that clearly says “how did it go?” or “all went well?” or something to that effect. I think Carlos knew what TK was doing at the station and he knew that it was a big deal for him, and I love that even before they are next to each other, he’s checking in to see how it went. He’s invested in TK’s well-being - as always - and he’s there to support him, both physically and emotionally. I COULD SCREAM.

In response to Carlos’s silent questioning, TK throws his head back and sighs. Like I said before, he seems to bounce towards Carlos, his body is pretty loose - his arms are swinging back and forth. This is a guy who just took a load off, and he’s relieved about having done so. The smile that Carlos gives him in answer says that he’s relieved too - that it went so well, that TK seems lighter. He might even be relieved that TK is being so much more open with him, clearly showing him his emotions. Their body language for this entire moment is very open, neither of them seem closed off. It truly does feel like, for the first time, they are meeting each other on equal footing, with all of their cards on the table before them. It’s such a different moment for them, certainly different than their body language during the boba date earlier in the episode.

I would be an absolute idiot if I did not pause and remark here how INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT IT IS that TK is the one that approaches Carlos. I’m not the first person to notice and say this, but Carlos “I hate being the one doing the chasing” Reyes stops just inside the door. He lets TK walk towards him. It’s such an interesting, nonverbal conversation between them. In this action, Carlos is saying “I’m here, but I’m still not going to force anything. You said you wanted space, so I’m giving it to you.” Sure, he comes to the station - but I would pay good money to bet that TK invited him there following some kind of conversation about what he was doing there - but he stays at the door. He’s cautious, but open. He wants something more with TK, but he’s not going to throw himself into it just to get hurt again. So, he waits. AND TK COMES TO HIM. TK leaves his own space and enters his. TK takes the final step. TK closes the gap. TK makes the big move, and they’re finally both right in front of each other, on the same wavelength. The find that solid ground from which they’ll build their relationship together. ISN’T IT JUST BEAUTIFUL?!

Seriously, kudos to Bradley Buecker for directing this episode with multiple levels of storytelling at play. It’s really great stuff.

OKAY, there’s a little Owen and Michelle moment, but then the camera finds Tarlos again.

TK is standing in front of Carlos, they’re completely fixated on one another, their body language is just so fucking casual and comfortable I cannot stand it. See, the other hugs were all pretty intense: the team piles on top of TK, burying him, and Owen practically throws himself at TK, it’s a fairly hard hug for a man with an injured shoulder. But this hug? NOPE.

It’s so soft. It’s so gentle. TK raises his arm like he just can’t not wrap it around Carlos’s neck, like it’s the only way to be as close as possible to him and being as close as possible to him is all he wants in that moment.

What I really love about this hug is that it feels like two people who hug not because the moment is demanding it, not because they’re reuniting after a long time apart, not because they’re in a heightened state of emotion.

These two hug like it’s just what they do, what they always want to be doing, like they don’t know how not to do it. The whole thing reads like “Hi, I’m TK and my arms belong around Carlos” and “Hi, I’m Carlos, and my arms belong around TK, what else would I be doing with them?” (It’s also the vibe I get from the club scene where they wrap their arms around each other.)

IT’S INTIMACY, Y’ALL.

Look, to be a Tarlos fan, I think you have to be willing to look at the relationship on two different levels, right? One is what they verbalize to each other, which is admittedly very little (season 2, come through). The other is the story that they tell through their body language. These two have seemingly always been on the same page physically. It just comes naturally to them, from the minute they first dance to their obviously very pleasing sex scene to the way they flirt in the bar to the club to Carlos at TK’s bedside.

Their chemistry is made clear through how they physically relate to each other, and never is that more clear than in this hug that LITERALLY LASTS 2 SECONDS BUT CONTAINS MULTITUDES.

Okay, back to it... so TK strolls towards Carlos, Carlos waits for him - they symbolism is making me scream - TK raises his arm, it’s all super casual...

And then he just kind of literally falls into Carlos’s body, and Carlos basically just catches him. HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THAT.

They don’t even speak but because they’ve had a nonverbal conversation with just those looks that I talked about, there’s just this understanding that TK needs to just collapse a little bit and he never for one second doubts that Carlos will hold him up. THAT’S JUST WHAT THEY DO.

OKAY OKAY OKAY now we’re going to break this down from head to toe.

Like, the way that their heads just rest against each other, TK pressing close - I can almost imagine that he breathes in the scent of Carlos’s shampoo, his nose is pressed right there in his curls. AND JUST IMAGINE HIS SMILE, I BET IT’S BLINDING.

I love that their heads kind of curve around each other kind of, perfectly Yin and Yang - like, from above they would totally look like that symbol.

MY FAVORITE PART OF THE ENTIRE THING: CARLOS FREAKING REYES NUZZLING INTO TYLER KENNEDY STRAND’S NECK, LIKE HE JUST SHOVES HIS FACE RIGHT IN THERE

THE NECK KISS MADE ME SCREAM SO FUCKING LOUD THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT I COULD NOT HANDLE IT

First, it’s our first kiss since episode 2.

Second, THE INTIMACY OF PRESSING A KISS TO SOMEONE’S NECK - LIKE THAT IS SUCH A SOFT PART OF YOUR BODY, THERE ARE TENDONS THERE, YOU CAN FEEL SOMEONE’S PULSE THERE - LIKE OH MY GOD

Nothing screams “I want to know every part of this man on a deep, committed level” than a fucking neck kiss, and Carlos Reyes just... he fucking does it.

Okay but he really does bury his whole face in there like he wants to keep it there forever, I have truly never seen something so soft in my entire life.

I’m so in love with them I could puke.

But like, that’s why this moment means so much to me, because I really do think that it’s a solidifying moment for both of them.

For TK, it’s a “It’s okay if I stumble or fall because this man will catch me or help me up” thing

For Carlos, it’s “he wants me, he wants this, he’s taking literal steps towards this thing between us, and he encourages me to sink into him, he wants me to do that, he really wants this”

Like, fuck.

Moving down... we gotta appreciate Carlos being mindful of TK’s shoulder, unlike literally everyone else who has hugged him. Like, he doesn’t even go anywhere near those stitches because there’s no fucking way he’s going to watch TK bleed out for the third time, nope.

And the way that Carlos just slides his arms around TK’s waist, pressing his palms into his lower back?!

I think there’s a whole like, thing, where when a person’s hands are flat and open they’re like, open and vulnerable. So there’s just something about the way that Carlos presses both of his open palms against TK’s back that feels so open and vulnerable and honest to me.

Also, the way that he literally covers as much of TK’s back with his hands as possible? He doesn’t place his hands on top of one another, he stacks them along TK’s spine - he completely covers the entirety of his lower back. That’s a really vulnerable part of the human body, and Carlos instinctively protects it. AND TK LET’S HIM.

Okay, finally, down to their feet: TK really does collapse against Carlos, throwing himself on top of him and trusting that Carlos will keep him upright. All of his weight shifts to that forward momentum, he even goes up on the toes of his right foot. Carlos plants his feet, and as TK sways into him, he wraps him in his arms and gently centers them so that they don’t tip over to the ground.

He literally re-balances them. The two of them together find a balance with one another during this TWO-SECOND HUG. They shift, they steady themselves, they sink into one another.

It’s literally symbolic of them both being completely, 100%, without question, ready for the next phase of their relationship together.

They keep each other standing, and that’s fucking true love, y’all.

I honestly cannot wait for season 2. This hug and the final scene on the hood of Carlos’s car - with TK again making the move to embrace their relationship by physically reaching into Carlos’s space for his hand and dragging it into his own space, firmly opening the door to his heart to let him inside, while also settling Carlos’s hand between his own to let him know that he’s willing to protect him and his heart too - makes me believe that we are in for some truly wonderful romance with these boys.

My heart will not stop screaming about it.

Hiii happy 4th hypmic anniversary, I know it's been like 3 days since the actual anniversary but *shrugs* anyways I wanted to answer the questions from this post to celebrate!! (This is going to be a long post lol, this just brings a ramble instinct in me)

1. How and when did you get into HyplMic?

I got into hypmic during the end of September/ start of October of last year, it feels like a lot of time and very little at the same time lol... so many people in the fandom have liked this for super long!! I got into it bc of someone I followed on twitter, they would talk about it sometimes and I was getting a bit sick of the music I listened too so I thought "why not expand my music taste?" Little that I know It was going to become the only thing I listened too lol. I also saw this like "a hypmic characther once said" video and I thought it was soooo funny I just had to get into it. I'm honestly surprised hypmic started in 2017 bc I was going through a god awful musical phase and knowing I could have liked it earlier in life amuses me (tho back then I thought anime was silly so it wouldn'thave happened either).

2. First impressions of the characters? Who stuck out the most?

(Another long one soz) I'm going to do most of them btw.

Buster bros: ichiro was the 1st chara I knew before I got into it, for a bit I had him mixed up with jyushi tho lmao. Tbh I didnt have a very strong opinion on him, I wasn't super into BB at the start 😅 same with jiro, I liked him the most, thought he was really cute. At the start I disliked saburo a bit lol, like he was just soooo mean and I didn't like that, also I wasnt a huge fan of new star at the start so I didnt like him bc of that either.

MTC: I had to fight a lot to openly like mtc, I felt a bit bad liking them at the start bc they're all like criminals and stuff lol. I have to be honest I think that at the start I didnt think about them like at all... the strongest impression here was Rio, he was my favorite also I thought jyuto was hilarious bc of the start of bayside smoking blues, I really liked his voice too.

Fling posse: ok so the moment I saw Ramuda I was like "this guy is evil as balls isnt he?" I was pretty right lol, I thought he was a child like saburo at the start bc hes so small, man fooled me there. I liked dice the most at the start, my 1st fanart is of him lol. I didnt have very strong opinions on Gentaro, I was surprised to find out his VA also voiced yamaguchi since I was a haikyuu fan if anything.

Matenro: Lol matenro was my favorite (still is), idk what was it but I saw all of them and I was like: great :D I dont remeber specific impressions tho.... It was almost like love at first sight lol. BAT: ok so I also knew who kuuko was before I got into hypmic my actual actual 1st fanart was of him (I did it before I even knew what hypmic was like at all). I really liked him, I remember listening to gyara bam and being like "this guy rules so much", I really liked jyushi, as mentioned before I had him mixed with ichiro (they look nothing a like I dont even know how) I was super shocked to find out he was also a teen lol I was pretty happy. Not gonna lie I had no idea who hitoya was at the start (rip) I knew kuuko I knew jyushi but I didnt know him, I dont remeber being very big on him till like the dramas and getting more into hypmic bc before nothing nada.

Dotsuhon: lol I slept on dotsuhon for the looongest time, I literally only liked sasara, rosho and rei were just really there for me. Sasara was my favorite bc I loved his voice and tragic transitor gace me unrivaled latino vibes so he felt very close to me in a sense. I thought rei was a scumbag the moment I laid eyes on him.

My 1st favorites before I found out about bat and dotsuhon where jiro and hifumi!! I really liked their voices and like over all attitude and stuff.

My favorite was matenro, they were just so cute and I liked how they were pretty chill and just had fun most of the time. Like how they tried looking all edgy and intimidating but they were all nice guys lol.

Not much lol my favorite is still hifumi tho know I have jyushi and Otome if were ranking on like top 3. I love all the charas now tho!!! Lol these are just my bigger ones. Division wise now my favorite is mtc, followed by bat I'm still a matenro stan tho!! All divisions have done some big growing on me so I love all of them anyways.

The 1st song I listened to was battle anthem, I was super convinced it was the 1st hypmic song so I was surprised to hear it was division rap battle lol.

Ghhhh this is so hard to choose... I actually like basically every single hypmic song.... if we're talking only 1t set that's easier to choose. Um that would be sensenfukoku, drops and champagne gold, I like all the mtc ones so I cant choose. Second set every single one is amazing so I cant choose either, tho at the start I disliked most of them somehow...

Ok at 1st i thought it was like an all division song but I just read it and it's just group song in general.... I love all of them but one of my biggest comfort songs is papillion so I'll say papillion. If were talking all stars songs that's easier tho: in no particular order its hoodstar (just heard the + ver and it slapped), survival of the illest+, glory or dust and hang out.

Mmmmm I personally have no idea which songs people like more in general but I have seen a bunch of "my favorite hypmic moments" videos so I'll base it on that. I'll personally say any mtc song lol, in those videos theres always a surprising lack of mtc so yeah.

Oh :0 well I'm not very sure but if anything I think the way to go would be an all stars song bc you can get the feel of each division pretty good, then if they like that introduce them to other stuff. Of course this all depends on the person lol... my brother really likes strong songs so to him battle anthem was a good hook up... I quite personally would go for survival of the illest bc it has a good feel of the divisions and it's very silly which is a series staple.

Mmmm idk I have a post about but I'll love to see a sasara jakurai interaction, I'm pretty sure one has already happened but I want this funny man to interact with jakurai more. Some people mentioned that they would like to see more interactions between kuuko and samatoki and I agree, wheres that side of the mad comic dialogue line up? I'll also like to see hitoya and samatoki bc they're both into vintage stuff ish, like fashion wise so I think it would be interesting to see. Last I want a jyushi/jiro interaction idk of there's any but there needs to be I need them to interact!!! Or maybe saburo jyushi that would also be interesting.

Yes!!! I'm a little shy talking about ships not going to lie so I don't talk about it too much lol. I like samajyu a normal amount, I also like ichikuu, jiroshi, hifudo and hitojaku. I like a lot of other ships too tho, like ot3 mtc is good so is fling posse tho my favorite is ramugen. Hypmic has a bunch of cute ships so it's hard not to enjoy most.

That one fan made episode from su called the smothering, it was so freaking amazing. It helped a lot in relieveing the pain of that big hiatus from 2017 (which was the biggest one, i literally turned into a skeleton waiting for new eps). Loved peri's needy personality, as well as lappy's playful one. It was so well written, like it could be perfectly fit as a role reversal episode in the main show.

Thoughts of a rare soul who enjoyed DMBJ’s Time Raiders 2016 adaptation (1/2)

[SPOILERS]

So I got into DMBJ bc of Reboot Zhu Yilong’s Wu Xie, I’ve been comparing all the Wu Xie, and came to check out Luhan’s. I just didn’t expect to fall in love with Jing Boran’s ZQL/MYP and catch feels for Pingxie?? Once again falling into niche fandom life??

Apparently within the niche DMBJ fandom, there’s a tinier, almost nonexistent niche for Time Raiders, so I have to rant about it.

Incredibly long post, so here’s a summary:

Action, A-Ning’s insole blade

My favorite Wu Xie adaptation

MYP whump and his damned smiles

A-Ning & PangZi + Badass tomb-raiding crews

Questionables things, prop & plot

Pingxie + 2/2

Foremost, this is an action movie. The action sequences are very nice, even with the occasional flying/floating people/objects in cdrama. As an action movie nerd, I approved and gave it 6.5/10 (and my standard is The Old Guard okay.) There’s everything--swords, guns, grenades, A-Ning’s insole blade. I particularly enjoyed ZQL vs Da Kui & Pan Zi, and ZQL vs A-Ning cut.

Characters are pretty fleshed out for a movie, motives and development are clearly established.

I really like this Wu Xie, personally I think he came closest to what I imagined to be novel’s WX. He is inexperienced, incredibly curious, and daring, but knowledgeable, he thinks outside the box and pulls his own weight, even aiding the crew. He’s BABY, naive, kind, and cheeky af. Refer to How to make friends--a guide by Wu Xie.

But by the end, you know that he matured, he’d seen deaths, hell, he broke his promise to take care of MYP, he grew up. STILL, he made me so protective over him, I finally understand how the entire Reboot casts feel about ZYL’s WX now.

Zhang Qiling/Men You Ping is still mysterious, indifferent; he’s very lost in life, has a goal but almost no will to live. Still OP af, but the WHUMP--so much ZQL whumps with bloody mouth, self-sacrificing tendency and everything. But he appreciates his experience more after knowing WX, like even without shipper eyes, you can tell he cares for WX--the first person who insisted to be his friend, who told him ‘I’d take care of you.’

I like drama MYP but, I completely fell in love with this angsty boy who needs some good sleep. Also probably bc of HIS DAMNED SMILES!! I’m a sucker for poker-face characters who can smile/laugh naturally. Bonus that he only did so with WX! Refer to ZQL smiling at Wu Xie.

I also dedicated an entire gifset on him because uhh I accidentally got attached?? LOOK AT HIM HE’S BEAUTIFUL

ANYWAY

Here is our favorite forced-to-cooperate gang again. Sadly, the Iron Triangle dynamic isn’t developed in here at all.

A-Ning has a bigger role than Pangzi, she’s still freaking competent, badass af, almost equal to ZQL. She is not so heartless at the end, obviously cares for her men, somewhat for WX. Seems to have a mild connection with ZQL over their fighting prowess LOL, and somehow bonds with PZ.

Pangzi is still comedic relief, unfortunately, has little motives and developments. His interactions with WX are hilarious though. They’re dorks together. Although, I found an easter egg: PZ wearing pot on his head again.

I appreciate the side characters in this movie a lot (especially Pan Zi with his kickass martial art). I think they made very badass tomb-raiding crews, both San Shu’s and A-Ning’s; it's clear that (some of) these men know what they were doing, and they aren’t afraid to die.

Also the props in here, holy cow, elaborated af. CGI is better than drama, but can always be improved...

BUT the time period is confusing as hell? This looks like old-school vibes, but they had incredibly high tech, drones and holograms? Uhh okay. Xie Yu Hua’s people used drones in The Lost Tomb 2, but this is a whole new level of sci-fi blue-screen computer stuff. And it’s probably very historically inaccurate, bc what queen back in the day had steampunk technology installed in her tomb?? The coiled machinery-ness bothers me. Ignore it if you can.

English is only better than The Lost Tomb 2’s English hahaha, but not so unbearable that I had to give up the movie. What hit me out of the left field is WX’s flute ability?? LMAO he pulled a Wei Wuxian bc what the heck? How does that even work? But I let it slide.

The plot is very basic: heroes go on quest, heroes face typical mastermind villain and powerful endgame monster. Featuring not-immoral-enough-to-destroy-humanity Hendrix, also known as, can’t-say-no-to-WX-baby-face Hendrix. And final boss: worms-queen with armors and tentacles and everything.

There are plot holes, but it’s an action movie, come on, nobody watches action movies for the plot.

But if you're a shipper, you should watch this movie for the SOFT AND WHOLESOME Pingxie content!

I didn’t expect it. I honestly didn’t watch the movie for Pingxie because I didn’t even ship Pingxie prior to this. I knew it existed, I liked the idea of it and I would read fic of it, but I didn’t feel a lot for it until now.

And then BAM, pokerface MYP with a very visible soft spot for WX? Hell yes. Worried and protective MYP who will catch WX when he falls? Also there.

MYP telling WX about his existential crisis of forgetting who he is? “If I totally lost myself one day, there’s still someone who would remember me.” WX insisting on being MYP's friends, and walking around recording memories for him with his little camera?“You won’t be lost.” YEP.

MYP and WX saving each other? “I said I’d take care of you.” Oh, for sure. Not to forget my standard for (b)romance: prolonged eye contact, smiles, so much smiles, and HANDS! They're all there!

Now, there are even more subtle things that told Pingxie’s story on a deeper level, which I talked about in continuation post 2/2 here.

Anyway, I know Time Raiders isn’t related to the main story aside from the characters and certain tropes. BUT as someone who just dipped their toes in DMBJ, out of everything I’ve seen--Lost Tomb 1, 2, Reboot, I’m in the middle of reading Book 3-- this installment is my favorite, barely beat out Lost Tomb 2 and only below the novel.

Omg why are you losing so many followers youve been drawing gay shit for forever??? (Or maybe i as a gay was just interpreting it that way)

Because I literally spammed people every day for one week lmao. And also, a lot of people follow others for specific content. The moment I stop drawing that exact thing they followed me for, they unfollow me. There are also accounts that follow just to make you follow them & if you don’t, they unfollow you after a while. There’s people who followed me for haikyuu & weren’t interested in BC content, and there were people who followed me for BC content but got showered in gay art instead and that was not their cuppa tea.

But mostly, i start appearing on people’s feed the more I post. So having me post incessantly for one week made me show up on feeds that I hadn’t shown up for a good while, so there were probably people who forgot they had followed me in the first place & me posting was a reminder to unfollow.

Truthfully, follower counts are dumb. Yes, it is important for you to have a high follower count for you to get attention, but the amount of people actually following you if you don’t have a consistent art style & rarely ever post something with different vibes than your usual ones, is equal or less than 1% of your total amount of following.

My instagram tells me I have 43k. I do not have 43k people following me. I’ve had 43k that once saw my account & pressed the follow button, but their feeds are filled up with other people’s accs that interest them more than mine (as well as my own feed does not show all the content of the 200+ something people I follow, unless I scroll down till the depths of hell to find every single post on that day and then do so on the next day as well).

Essentially, 95% of your followers are there because of content. They want to see what entertains them. Most of them don’t care about the artist and don’t interact with them at all. Many of them are scared to, given the high follower count. Social media & big accounts make people forget that there are other, real, living & breathing people that are behind them all.

So, to many, I was just a random artist they found and “lol”ed at one of my comics & pressed follow without thinking about it. Most of them don’t go to my account and see all other art I’ve posted to see if they actually like what I do, or me as a person and as an artist at all.

People who don’t know this get really discouraged when they don’t earn a lot of followers, or when they lose a lot (like I did). And some people think you gotta have hundreds of thousands to be famous. I’ve seen accs going around that paid for ads, that had over 150k followers and less than 1k likes on their posts.

Truly famous, loved, growing and/or steady accounts have an amount of likes per post proportional to their follower count. For example, if someone has 150k followers, most of their posts will vary from 20k to 100k likes.

When I was growing my account because I hopped in the fandom bandwagon and stupid little me didn’t know that would only make me crash later, I had like 20~30k and some of my posts reached more than 20k likes (because people liked my stupid comics). Nowadays, I’m not part of the fandom that made me grow anymore. I’m part of a very underrated one (Black Clover), as well a I am drawing a very underrated ship (LuGna) that above all else is getting hated on. I have everything against me in this, so it’s no wonder I lost so many followers.

They didn’t wanna see gay art. They didn’t wanna see Black Clover. They didn’t even know what the fuck was going on. Not everyone paid attention or kept up with my warnings. Despite me explaining multiple times in multiple posts what the Thunder Flames project was about, a lot of people still didn’t know what I was doing that for.

The thing about being a big follower count is that, unless you’re actually loved for what you do (and to do that, once again, I need to emphasize that you need to keep a steady rhythm, a steady vibe, a steady you. Because people follow you for your first impression on them, and you gotta keep up to that first impression if you wanna keep your followers.

I’m unsteady. One look at my gallery and you’ll see how disorganized everything is. Oh, lookit, a 1 min speedpaint of a random drawing I did on an old piece of paper! And right on the left there’s a stupid random comic I did–on the right there’s this super detailed, shaded drawing I’ve done that actually looks terrible to me and I will 100% archive it later, and then there’s B&W mixed with gray shaded, flat colored and fully shaded characters of different fandoms + OCs from commissions and whatever else.

The thing is, I made my follower count based on a fandom, and now that I’m not there most of that follower count does not have me on their feed. And most of them do not want me on their feed. Now, I’m trying to build a follower count for who I am as an artist, because the few people who have actually stayed and followed me throughout the years know how inconsistent I am in terms of art style, fandoms and everything else.

A solution to this would me either keep creating/posting the same thing all over again (just in different patterns), or creating original content (which I do plan on doing at some point). But for now? Since my follower count does absolutely not reflect on how many people actually like me and/or my art, I’m going to be as chaotic as fucking ever and do whatever the fuck I want.

So yes, I do find it comical that I lost 1k followers over this and am not fazed in the very least, especially because I literally foreshadowed losing 1k and hit the fucking jackpot.

The only reason I’m talking about this at all is because 1- it’s impossible not to notice my follower count decreasing, especially because every new 1k I thank people publicly through stories; 2- some people were actually worried I was upset over it and I have to 3- show that I am not, while simultaneously trying to show people that just because you’re losing followers doesn’t mean you have to stop doing what you want to create content to please people. It doesn’t mean you should be upset, and it doesn’t mean that what you’re doing is bad or wrong.

It means you’re fucking renewing your followers & you’ll now grow for what you’re trying to grow for, bitch. That’s what it’s all about.

Obviously, people do take a great risk doing this. I am taking a great risk doing this. I could’ve lost 5k, I could’ve lost 10k. But I only lost 1k! And that’s because I believe in the project I worked on; I knew there were people out there who enjoyed what I was doing and it’s on them that I was focused on. On the people who supported me AND my art, not just that one single funny comic post I did 3 years ago.

This answer is 100% a lot longer than what you could’ve possibly expected for and I am typing this while being awake for more than 24h so I’m sure that I’ve repeated myself a lot and that there are a lotta typos or w/e and I apologize for that!! But I’m too lazy to go back to read everything over & turn this into a neat post & I’m pretty sure I could answer your question in the first paragraph.

Oh and also. Yes. Yes I have been drawing gay shit ever since I’ve become an artist because I’m so fucking pissed at the lack of canon gay content in a way that it’s depicted as a normal fucking romantic couple instead of having eeeeeeeeveryone point their finger to the gay couple and scream “HEY THAT’S GAY!!! THIS CAN’T BE PART OF THIS VERY HETEROSEXUAL SHOW WHERE EVERYONE IS OBVIOUSLY HETEROSEXUAL EVEN THOUGH NONE OF THE CHARACTERS HAVE EVER SAID THAT EXPLICITLY BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THE CREATORS ARE EITHER HETEROSEXUAL OR TOO AFRAID TO LOSE AUDIENCE IF THEY TREAT GAY PEOPLE AS NORMAL PEOPLE!??!! I’m tired of this bullshit. Ever since I was an artist I’ve been rooting for gay ships in shonen manga while knowing they would never happen just because they were gay, and now that we are in our Blessed-By-Satan, Pandemic-Chaotic, What-The-Fuck-Is-Going-On, We-Don’t-Know-If-We-Wanna-Go-Back-Or-To-The-Future-Or-Just-IDK-Fucking-Die year 2020, in which the LGBT community is thriving and being louder than ever to fight for our rights, Me, in my twenty four years of fucking age, having gone through several fucking disappointments ONLY regarding this matter, am sitting here on my ass, hopeful as all galactic, glittery shit that for some fucking reason, my new OTP formed by very underrated characters from this very underrated franchise in the southern and western communities, becomes canon because my stupid eyes can see chemistry between them even though those stupid haters’ can’t. Second Chance Live Blogging

I don't hear much about this show but when I do, seems to just be good things. I tried watching it before once but gave up halfway through the first episode because I was bored, didn't like how they made the girls just be fangirls of their classmates (literally why is this a thinggggg) and wanted to watch something else (I think it was Bad Buddy?). If it doesn't stick this time, then rip.

Episode 1 (Mar 28)

Is this show by the same people who did TharnType? I recognize Paper as Tharn's brother Thorn and Chris played... somebody's friend.

Concentrating really hard because I keep getting mixed up between Tong Fah and Chris

I'm confused so there's one kid named Jeno who gets bullied by the bullies in the toilet and there's another kid named Near and he gets bullied because's he's too smart? Why are they so similar

Oh, Near works at a board game cafe? There's one in my city too, I wanna goooo

In a story, you must get us to care about the characters in order to get us to care about their perils. Characters randomly having heart-to-hearts 20 minutes into the first episode about not having parents is certainly a choice

Oh yeah, I did hear about them depicting an abusive relationship, I wonder how they'll handle it.

I need these shows to start treating women as regular people who are fully realized human beings outside of being devoted to the cutest guy or cutest m/m ship

At least Jeno's female friend seems nice and normal enough

Tong Fah and Paper comparing hand sizes, didn't realize I liked that until right this moment

There's so much dang bullying in this

There are just sooo many characters and couples, especially considering it's just 4.5 hours. So we've got Tong Fah and Paper, our main characters. Then Chris (who I got a bit confused with Tong Fah at the beginning but I think I got it now), who I think will be paired with Jeno if I look at the MyDramaList Cast page. Jeno also has a friend, his ex-bf/bully, and also maybe an older sis Geneva who we haven't seen yet but she's been mentioned. I can't really distinguish between Jeno and Near but Near's also bullied and works at a cafe and will be paired with M, whose face I didn't register at all.

I don't know how much I'll like this show in terms of actual writing/production but I'm enjoying the atmosphere/vibe and dynamic of Tong Fah and Paper, so maybe they'll manage to get me invested.

Episode 2 (Mar 28)

I don't get the flow of this show at some points. Like at the end of the last episode, Arthur and his little gang were gonna beat up ...Near? in the locker room but this episode starts with them beating up Jeno somewhere else, like where is the continuity.

Also, we already had a scene where Chris insisted on taking Jeno home even though Jeno said his parents would pick him up but we didn't get to actually see it and again, we're having pretty much the same scene again with more detail, like why? Why have the first scene of the same thing at all, it didn't really make sense because they weren't conversing before the way they are now

Wait Chris being like "Can I hit on you?" is very cute [ignoring the fact that he's his muay thai trainer bc to me they're schoolmates]

I feel like I should like Near/M more than I do, like their coffeeshop interactions are cute enough and also they're gaming friends online without knowing, so that should draw me in but so far I'm meh about it

Everything in the show happens so fast, it makes it a bit erratic

I wouldn't say I'm invested in Tong Fah and Paper thus far but I'm interested in their story and want them to end happily. I didn't realize (or maybe remember, rather) that it would be best friends to lovers and I like that

Also Jeno and Near look so similar because the actors are brother lol

Episode 3 (Mar 28)

I don't have much to say that I didn't already say before; the scenes don't always flow together well and I wish they gave the girls more dimensions but I'm growing fond of some of the characters.

I like Tong Fah and Paper, their dancing while drinking scene + the kiss was really, really good. In episode 1, was it Tong Fah or Paper that confessed because I thought I remember Paper confessing but here Tong Fah shows signs of jealousy + kissed Paper, so I may have remembered wrong? I hope they patch it up next episode or by the middle of episode 5 so that we can see them together for a bit in the last episode.

Jeno and Chris are somewhat interesting but I don't care that much. Thus far, there's not much to them except Chris just being like "can I give you a ride?" like 4 different times to Jeno lol

I don't care about Near and M

Episode 4 (Mar 28)

O.O woah what a heartbreaking/cruel scene to start off with. It's not just losing a potential love interest but rather your very best friend

Also, I just remembered the reason I was so keen on starting Second Chance a few weeks ago was because I thought it was about exes-to-lovers but my interest waned when I realized it wasn't. Now... I'm suddenly thinking maybe Paper rejects Tong Fah now but the Second Chance is that he'll start liking him back later on? I kinda wanna go back to the first episode to see if it was Tong Fah or Paper that was confessing to see if this theory/hope has any substance. Also, the GMMTV BL replacing Enchante is gonna have the premise of being rejected in high school but pursued by that person in university, right? The concept piques my interest, so might give it a try

This series has flaws but it also has a lot of heart. The conversation between Chris and Near where Chris is giving him advice about M is nice

It's interesting the Jeno's sister and her friends tell Chris to tone done some of his actions (buying things for him all the time) because it makes Jeno feel like a child and reminds him of Arthur (abusive ex). Often, the pursuer will continue to incessantly pursue without caring about how the other person feels and the pursued person will ~become used to it~ even if they were iffy on it or disliked it at the start. I wonder how Chris will change his approach or try to attempt to win Jeno over now because his over-the-top methods aren't appreciated by Jeno

lmfao mans chose an even more over-the-top method... the second hand embarrassment... Okay now I wonder what Chris will do because Jeno was so clear and cutting in saying he didn't like such a public display

Chris, are you kidding? I know you're hurting but if you see your crush be asked out again by his physically abusive ex, why would you leave laksf

Girl, this cliffhanger with Paper crying ?! Did Tong Fah get into an accident or something :0

I think the acting in this is really good in that it's just high school romance drama but it doesn't feel too over the top? Like I think they're managing to execute it well where we're going through a rocky, angsty period in each relationship but because the show seems to have heart and the actors make the characters seem humane, it's an engaging show even though I think the way scenes flow into each other is still off

Episode 5 (Mar 29)

Right, so accident hm There are 2 episodes left.

I switch between doing schoolwork and watching the show but How I'm Falling In by Kolby Knickerbocker came on Spotify while I was doing homework, so time to take a break from the show to watch: Not Me Episode 9 Part 1 (a masterpiece)

Also rewatched 11-4 and the first half of 12-1 because they're just so good; the SeanYok little banter and then SeanBlack going head to head with their antagonisms on equal footing while Sean finallllllyyyyy is certain that Black and White aren't the same.

Dunno how this turned into a Not Me rewatch blogging for a bit but it's interesting to rewatch my favourite parts because I know everything, I'm not pausing every few minutes to brace for what's or to come write a comment in the middle of the scene, so I can watch all 10 minutes at once and it's fun

Back to Second Chance blogging

I do like that the girls are threatening Jeno's abusive ex and finally getting to do things that aren't just fawning over guys 100% of the time

Chris and Jeno's conversation at the Muay Thai place is cute >.< Jeno initiating conversation and noticing how Chris is different today than other days

Chris always asking if he can give Jeno a ride but now Jeno asking if Chris can him give him a ride

About the Chris Jeno thing, I always love it when there's a role reversal, even if for just a bit, where the pursuer is pursued by the initially pursued person (see: Not Me Episode 12 White chasing Sean)

lmfao of course Chris and Jeno knew each other as little kids but it's kinda cute because back then too, Chris took Jeno home

Paper and Tong Fah's story was so boring this episode with Tong Fah just in sleeping in the hospital lol

I really like the humming song that's throughout the series (37 mins in, for example) but I don't know what it is aklsdfj The playlist for the show on Spotify doesn't have that I don't think

Episode 6 (Mar 29)

Chris and Jeno are still cute

I hate that Viki doesn't allow screenshots but Near's friend is so cute, adorable, nice, I like her despite her not really being there much

Yeah I did go on Youtube just to take two screenshots of her. My "becomes enamoured with girls while watching BLs" disease is strong

Bro I liked Paper and Tong Fah scenes the most in the beginning but like now it's just Tong Fah in his hospital bed and Paper being worried/mopey because of his worries about it, like goddamn it's the last episode give me Something

Why are they giving Arthur, the abusive ex, an arc and character growth right now? Is this the same team who decided to make Lhong sympathetic?

Like it's not that I think something you do as a teenager should forever define you, even though they both did very horrible things. The characters are young and they can grow but the shows don't show that. Saying sorry isn't enough in these situations, that doesn't show much growth, because the characters don't do anything to rectify the situation, make up for past mistakes, change behaviour for the future.

Paper's speech is kinda cringy lol Why make your speech as student president at prom about love T.T

Paper and Tong Fah's scenes here are more serious and teary than Chris and Jeno's, I think it gives a nice enough contrast even though they did get boring

Where the heck is the first scene from episode 1? It'd be like if Dark Blue Kiss started with that intense beginning scene with someone asking "What are you two?" Pete answered "We are..." and then we just never saw that scene again, tf.

I wish they didn't have Near and M and just focused more on the other two more interesting couples.

The writing and timeline and flow of scenes were weird. Weak in terms of coherency.

The girls' characterization got better as the series went on but it was abysmal in the beginning.

I liked the acting enough and thought the honesty and earnestness of the story pulled through even though the writing had other weak points.

I liked Paper and Tong Fah more in the first half and Chris and Jeno more in the second half.

Paper and Tong Fah started off fairly strong for me with the best friend dynamics, the tenderness, the heartbreak of rejection but then got very meh and boring once Tong Fah landed in the hospital.

Chris and Jeno started off cute enough for me but then I started really liking them. The effects of Jeno being hounded by his abusive ex has on his general life (learning Muay Thai) and his outlook on relationships (not wanting to be hurt again, not wanting anything public) were briefly touched upon and I enjoyed that. Chris made some missteps when it came to wooing Jeno but it was actually shown as that; for example, Chris admits that he wasn't thinking of how Jeno would feel at the public confession and so not doing that anymore. Jeno's sister and her friends telling Chris that some of the things Chris does reminds Jeno of Arthur and to not do those things. It was just very interesting to me and I wish we got to see more of it (imagine if Near and M's time were given to them...). They're my favourite part of the show, for sure.

Overall, I don't regret watching it. I enjoyed some parts and didn't enjoy others. I wasn't ever super invested but it wasn't like totally boring; it had weaknesses but strengths as well.
