Reader’s Corner: Boss Bride Days, Enough with This Slow Life, and Marmalade Boy
We feature some classic romance titles this week (My Little Monster, Marmalade Boy) to join more modern ones in The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, which we’ll be reviewing through to its current release, and Boss Bride Days. Our writers also review a number of other works, including one that was almost universally panned by an author who is otherwise celebrated (and who we’ll profile in tomorrow’s International Women’s Day post)—can you guess what manga that is?
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (Vol. 2) • Boss Bride Days (Vol. 2) • Enough with This Slow Life! I Was Reincarnated as a High Elf and Now I’m Bored (Vol. 1) • Evergreen (Vol. 1) • Marmalade Boy: Collector’s Edition (Vol. 1) • Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You (Vol. 3) • My Little Monster (Vol. 1) • Tomb Raider King (Vol. 1) • Villains Are Destined to Die (Vol. 2)

As autumn colors fall.

From Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Revival) and Fran Galán (Lucky Devil) comes this horror saga about nostalgia, heavy metal music, hell, and redemption. More than thirty-five years after his heyday, a former heavy metal roadie must return to the backroads of America to do a job he thought he'd retired from: exorcist. But this time, he's not saving groupies and drunk bassists. He's trying to save his daughter.
Tumblr media
Briar #1 (of 4) -  Christopher Cantwell & German Garcia
What if Sleeping Beauty never got her happily ever after... and instead had to save herself? Set in a brutal fantasy world that time forgot, this isn't the fairy tale you know! Eisner Award-nominated writer, producer, and director Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man, The United States of Captain America, Halt and Catch Fire) and rising artist Germán García (Ka-Zar: Lord of the Savage Land) reimagine the classic tale as an epic dark fantasy adventure.
Tumblr media

As he attempts to take control of his life, his actions leave him with blood on his hands. Ted finds himself on the run from the authorities and the darkness of his past. As Ted tries to escape his former self and build a new, better future, his mistakes come back to haunt him - in the ring and out of it. HELL IS A SQUARED CIRCLE is a 48-page Prestige Format ONE SHOCK from Writer Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and illustrated by Francesco Biagini (Dingo, 18 Days). Don't miss out on this body slam to hell from such an electrifying creative team.
Tumblr media
Hollow OGN -  Shannon Watters, Branden Boyer-White, Berenice Nelle & Naomi Franquiz
Isabel "Izzy" Crane and her family just moved to the infamous Sleepy Hollow, but as a slick skeptic from the city, she's too busy adjusting to the change of scenery for ghost stories-they're not real, after all. Then she meets Vicky Van Tassel (yes, THAT Van Tassel) and the loveable prankster Croc Byun. Vicky's weariness with the legend turns to terror when the Horseman himself shows up, along with a curse set on destroying the Van Tassel line. Now, they have only until Halloween night to break the curse. What an inconvenient time for Izzy to develop a massive crush on Vicky! Can Izzy and her new friends uncover the mystery of the Headless Horseman before it's too late?
Tumblr media
Flawed #1 (of 6) -  Chuck Brown & Prenzy
Gem Ezz is a psychiatrist in the Kafkaesque city of Setham, where corruption and brutality rule the streets. By day, she uses words to solve her patients' problems. By night, she takes a more direct-and sometimes deadly-approach. Tumblr media
Enemies TP -  Svetlana Chmakova

Her sister, Letty, teases Felicity that she never finishes stuff, but that's just because Letty is so perfect. Still, life is good with plenty of friends-drawing with the art club and playing games with her buddies keep her busy. But when she decides to join a contest to show Letty that she CAN get things done, Felicity begins to wonder if friends becoming enemies is easier than she thought. Are they really enemies, though...? What does it even mean to be enemies? And...who is it that she needs the most on her side...?

Tumblr media
Misfortune: A Book of Illustrated Fortune Cookie Messages GN -  Aeon Hand
Misfortune is a dark look into the prisms that create the illusion we call modern life, guided by fortunes from fortune cookies. Pairing innocuous messages like "Good news will come to you from far away" with a stark black and white drawing of riot police fleeing in terror from a Molotov cocktail streaking through the air creates jarring juxtapositions. A very dark humor runs throughout these couplings, although Hand admits, "what other book is going to use fortune cookie messages to make you feel depressed?

REVIEW | "Miss Miyazen Would Love To Get Closer To You" - Vol. 1" | B3 - Boston Bastard Brigade
Tumblr media
Some of the more fun rom-coms involve big misunderstandings. They can be misread cues, or perhaps the usage of a word or phrase that has multiple meanings. For the duo in Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You, almost everything they say or do with one another constitutes a big misunderstanding. As a result, it leads to some pretty big laughs.
The titular character of Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You is a proper lady, one deemed a princess due to her high standings. Sitting in front of her is Matsubayashi, who came from a much more troubled middle school. Despite their two different backgrounds, they actually share many common interests. However, it doesn’t help that either of them have trouble speaking with one another.
Thus begins the journey of Miyazen and Matsubayashi, who take their time getting to know one another. It begins with simple greetings and farewells, before Miyazen starts throwing in references to some of Matsubayashi’s favorite yakuza films. This confuses the boy, who can’t ever imagine a prim & proper lady like Miyazen liking the same movies. But as time goes by, their comfort level rises, as they aid one another at school and eat lunch together.

Reader’s Corner: Wandering Witch (Vol. 9), Laid-Back Camp (Vol. 12), and Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Vol. 1)
Elaina is a witch, but Emilia is not. Chikuwa did not go camping with Chiaki, Aoi, and Ena, but he is with them in their story of the trip. And disillusioned adventurers will form a party and protect one another, but they won’t be trusting each other any time soon. Got all that? Good. I promise it makes a lot more sense (and for better reading) in this week’s slate of new releases.
The Ancient Magus Bride Supplement (Vol. 1) • Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Vol. 1) • Laid-Back Camp (Vol. 12) • Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You • Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, The Frozen Bond (Vol. 2) • Star Wars Rebels (Vol. 3) • Wandering Witch, the Journey of Elaina (Vol. 9)

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You, Manga Vol. 2
Matsubayashi and Miyazen are back with their precious “antics” to get closer to one another in the Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You sequel, and I continue to be 100% here for it! I am so thankful this series was put on my radar because, just like with volume one, this slowburn romance is an absolute delight to read! Both of our main characters keep trying to get closer to one another by spending extra time together when cleaning the classroom, picking up trash in the schoolyard, and having “secret” conversations between classes. While these antics aren’t too different from before, in this volume we see that Matsubayashi wants to impress Miyazen with his killer dodgeball skills, which doesn’t quite lead to what he was hoping for…or does it? Volume two is equally as adorable as volume one and once again had me laughing, squealing, and giggling after every single chapter. I deeply loved the characters’ interactions and how hard both of them are trying to be noticed by the other—only for them to feel like it’s going unnoticed by the other. Ha! I also loved the two backstories that centered around both our characters: not only did the backstories add more depth to the story, but it was also interesting to know who our lead couple used to be. I continue to highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a super sweet, slowburn romance that is lighthearted and fun! ~ @lauraagrace
Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You is published by Kodansha.

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, The Frozen Bond, Manga Vol. 2
“The Frozen Bond” is a poetic and appropriate subtitle for this three-part series about Emilia’s adventures before the Royal Selection process begins. It portrays Emilia’s fraught relationship with anyone she comes in contact with; no matter how much she wants to show kindness to others, her powers and appearance only bring fear and danger to them. It also provides background on her relationship with Puck, with the two bonded but not yet in loving companionship. Volume one emphasized a very cold relationship between the two, setting the expectation that this short series will explain how the icy coldness between them thaws. In volume two, Puck does begin to warm up to Emilia, but it all just kind of happens. Little reason is given to show why Puck is becoming more protective of her. Volume three should reveal more, but it already feels a bit too rushed, and needlessly so, as nothing much else of consequence happens in this book. All that is a bit disappointing, but I admit I’m still enjoying this side story well enough, and you’re likely to as well if you count Puck and Emilia among your favorite Re:ZERO characters, as I do. ~ @animepopheart

Wandering Witch, the Journey of Elaina, Light Novel Vol. 9
Murderers, masochists, siscons, stalker Cinderellas, and pervy princes, and let’s not forget the sprays of gruesome carnage: this volume of Elaina is not what I expected. Let me rewind for a moment, back to when I was but an innocent, wide-eyed writer contemplating the Yen Press review copy list for November, and recognizing an old friend among the volumes! It was the latest LN installment from a series for which I had enjoyed the anime adaptation a couple of years ago. “Brilliant!” thought I. “Let’s see what the Ashen Witch is up to on her travels now. Has she finally faced her fear of returning home and admitted to herself who her mother really is?” O hoh hoh! (As the characters of this series often say.) No, nothing so profound or heartwarming, I’m afraid. Now, to be fair, I do have a vague recollection of a few moments in the anime that evoked a raised eyebrow from yours truly. But I shrugged them off at the time as just little things that were a bit off. Sadly, I’m here to report that by the latter half of volume 9, those, um, themes are pretty much the main focus. I’m using euphemisms here folks, but basically, this ain’t for kids. Which is pretty disappointing. So much for the content; as for the writing itself, there are some decent twists at first, but once you get the hang of it, things get a bit predictable. The entire work is written like a dialogue exercise that uses nearly a half dozen different fonts and coded circles in place of headings to indicate who is narrating at a given moment. Even with all that coding, though, I often found myself a few paragraphs into a section before realizing that the narrator had changed, and I’m pretty sure the circle code got mixed up in the penultimate story. Part of the problem is that all the various narrators share the same voice, same vocabulary, same tone, same—you get the picture. There’s only one character who gets a third-person narrator, Cinderella, probably because her inner dialogue would consist solely of “heh heh heh heh” and various fetish fantasies. Yikes. Anyhow, Elaina and Miss Fran may be set for one more volume of traveling tandem, as the afterword explains, but I for one will not be sharing that particular journey with them. Such a shame. ~ claire
Wandering Witch, The Journey of Elaina is published by Yen Press.
Star Wars Rebels, Manga Vol. 3
My knowledge of Star Wars Rebels comes from having watched just a few episodes of the television series, seeing promos and images from later seasons, and reading the previous two volumes of this manga series. That minimal knowledge came in handy as I read through the last third of volume three. I began to recognize images and characters that I knew were from later seasons, and the realization slowly sank in: This is the last volume of this manga. How disappointing! I’m really not clear on what Disney was trying to accomplish through this work, which simultaneously excited me on what this version of Rebels could offer and let me down by blazing through the material—and I do mean blaze. The volume begins as any volume might, by building a story. Ezra is learning to construct a lightsaber and undergoes the Jedi trial. The second act moves more quickly as the rebels hatch a scheme that leads to Kanan’s capture. The final act presumably kills off a character, showcases a confusing lightsaber battle, reveals Ashoka Tano, and shows Kanan with his eye piece. (Is he blind? I wouldn’t know since the series neither shows how he gained this visor nor explains his condition.) It feels as if news of the series’ cancelation was delivered right in the middle of the volume’s development. “Well, it was a nice run, folks. Let’s wrap it up!” I was left wanting to know all that happened to these characters between the beginning of volume three and the “slam bam” conclusion to it, and annoyed that so much was spoiled. This set up a sizeable roadblock to me watching the animated series, the promotion of which (it now seems) was the only point of developing this manga adaptation at all. ~ @animepopheart
Star Wars Rebels is published by Yen Press.

Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World, Light Novel Vol. 1
While there’s not much saving the world happening yet (that’ll surely come in time), it’s easy to guess how the rest of Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World volume one plays out. This straightforward novel begins by laying out the backstories of each of the four adventures, one chapter each, thus setting the context of how these eventual party members have been hurt by the world. They then form tenuous bonds, learning to trust each other bit by bit as they build their skills. The only suspense in volume one lies in wondering whether or not the tale will go the darkgrim route or stay optimistic and positive; the earlier can be fascinating when written with more than shock value in mind (see Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash), but this series seems to know its place: it’s a redemptive tale, putting the characters in low places (but not too too low) and raising them to higher ones—gently, slowly, and with fantasy world idol groups included (really). The result is a story that’s fun, heartwarming, and even a wee bit surprising. With volume one focusing on two characters in particular, I’m eager to see how the series will handle the other two original party members in volume two. (And I’m now excited for the anime adaptation, too!) ~ @animepopheart
Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World is published by Yen Press.
Laid-Back Camp, Manga Vol. 12
With volume twelve, Laid-Back Camp finds a new and fun way to relate the girls’ excursions to us: through the camping flashback! As often as they’re used in manga, a flashback may not sound particularly compelling, but hear me out. Afro’s use of the plot device is so fitting with this charming series. For instance, as Chiaki, Aoi, and Ena tell Nadeshiko about their adventures, they decide to include Chikuwa in the story, even though he couldn’t go because it was too cold. And hey, as long as they’re including the chihuahua, why not also bring in Hanpen, everyone’s favorite Youtuber samoyed as well! Nadeshiko even gets to participate through picture-in-picture commentary, like reaction-style news and variety shows from Asia. And at one point, Nadeshiko even takes over the actual storytelling. How very like her. And how very much like Laid-Back Camp to keep the story cute, humorous, and, of course, laid-back, even twelve volumes along. ~ @animepopheart
Laid-Back Camp is published by Yen Press.

The Ancient Magus Bride Supplement, Book Vol. 1
As the first “Annotated Magus” states at one point, The Ancient Magus Bride is an “outpouring of love for British fantasy.” Any casual reader of the manga should immediately pick up on that, but if you want to dig deeper—way deeper—consider reading The Ancient Magus Bride Supplement 1, which provides chapter-by-chapter, panel-by-panel notes for the first 14 chapters of the classic series. There are also discussions, summaries, contextual material, and everything and more that a hardcore fan of the franchise or lover of fantasy and myth could ask for. By the end of the initial chapter, this first volume had already referenced Paradise Lost, Isis Unveiled, The Tempest, and especially The Beauty and the Beast as inspirations for The Ancient Magus Bride. And there’s so much more in the following chapters, bringing this already lively series even more to life and showing both Kore Yamazaki’s reverence for Celtic tales and the seriousness with which she approached her own. This is not for casual fans; it is made for those with a serious interest in the field, The Ancient Magus Bride, or both. But you fit into one of those categories, you’ll be rewarded with a volume that adds to the wonder and depth of one of manga’s great fantasies. ~ @animepopheart
The Ancient Magus Bride Supplement vols. 1 and 2 are published by Seven Seas.

“Reader’s Corner” is our way of embracing the wonderful world of manga, light novels, and visual novels, creative works intimately related to anime but with a magic all their own. Each week, our writers provide their thoughts on the works they’re reading—both those recently released as we keep you informed of newly published works, and those older titles that you might find as magical (or in some cases, reprehensible) as we do.

Reader’s Corner: Fly Me to the Moon (Vols. 12 and 13), Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible (Vol. 4), and Sugar Apple Fairy Tale (Vol. 1)
News of a second season of Banished From the Hero’s Party recently dropped, and coincidentally, we have a review of the newest volume of the manga to share with you today, along with volume one of Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, also soon to be adapted into an anime! Today’s column also features reviews of several other romantic series, including the first bound volume of Shonen Jump favorite, Blue Box; the latest volume of Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible; and the outlier, volume two of that series with a suitably outlandish title, Crazy Food Truck!
-----
Blue Box, Manga Vol. 1
My most anticipated manga has finally released physically in English, and I’m absolutely thrilled! Blue Box has been a story I’ve been deeply interested in and excited for. It’s about a young badminton player, Taiki, who ends up having a huge crush on his upperclassman, Chinatsu, after seeing how hard she plays basketball. While he looks for chances to talk to her, he never imagines they’ll get a lot closer (after a certain event) than just catching each other at the gym! He hopes that maybe she’ll start to like him the same way he likes her, but until that time comes, he keeps giving his all in badminton and encourages her to follow her dreams too. When I think of the perfect blend of blooming romance and sports, this manga right here captures it all! Taiki is a precious little bean who is respectable, adorable, thoughtful, and charming in his own awkward way. Not only do I deeply love both Taiki and Chinatsu, but the art style is perfection! There is such a softness at just the right moment, and then an intensity with action scenes—I really love the superb balance of capturing both. This is such a wonderful story, and I’m so thankful for its release because I deeply love everything about it! A great supporting cast of characters, a fantastic hero to follow, and the subtle fierceness of sports mixed with soft “romance” is everything I could want. Highly recommend it! ~ Laura A. Grace

Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke, Manga Vol. 3
I very much enjoyed reading this latest volume of Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke! This volume opened up with Claire finally being at the ball where Vik will choose his future bride, despite not receiving an invitation. Thankfully, the question of how things will unfold regarding Claire and her role in Vik’s life still are answered quickly. However, this volume had a new intensity that hasn’t been shown thus far in the series. Not saying there hasn’t been danger because that magical tornado in volume two was definitely a danger, but this time I feel the threat is more personal when Claire herself is in danger from two new villains. But Charlotte, Claire’s half-sister, is the real villain in this series. We’re finally seeing her true colors and just how horrible of a manipulator and character she is. I definitely dislike her a lot more than I did when I first started this series, even though I second the original creator’s comment in the afterword saying it’s hard to hate her because her character design is so cute. Ha! My only disappointment with this volume is how fast I read it. I felt so bummed at the end when I realized I had read all of it and couldn’t see what happens next in Claire’s life. As a result, I am eagerly anticipating the next volume’s release to see what will unfold! ~ Laura A. Grace

Crazy Food Truck, Manga Vol. 2
For those who don’t know, Crazy Food Truck follows the adventures of Gordon, a food truck driver and former soldier, and Arisa, a super-powered, mostly naked female soldier and huge eater. They travel looking for customers in the food truck, while keeping Arisa safe from those trying to find her. Volume two kicks off where volume one ended and keeps these characters on the move looking for more food options and customers. They encounter ghost towns, giant animals, and danger along the way. We also meet Arisa’s sister, who is likewise super-powered and is controlled by some shadowy government agencies. Volume two continues to be wild and all over the place. It has action, food, and more action, making for a fast-paced story. I’ve been loving every moment of it, but I can’t necessarily recommend it to everyone given how it portrays Arisa, and while she’s less nude than in volume one, there’s a lot of skin shown. Those for whom that is an issue would be wise to avoid this series. That said, if you want a wild, post-apocalyptic ride with a food truck driver and a girl trying to stay safe while figuring out the mystery behind her own powers, check it out. ~ MDMRN

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, Light Novel Vol. 1
After her mother’s death, Anne follows in her footsteps to become a Silver Sugar Master, in order to create a special candy that she can offer up at her grave. However, in order to make it in time to the royal capital where the competition that crowns a Silver Sugar Master is held, she must traverse the dangerous Bloody Highway. To protect herself, Anne does something she hates the thought of and buys a fairy slave to be her bodyguard. Anne wants to treat her fairy, Challe, more as a friend than a slave, but Challe is cold to her and refuses to do anything unless Anne outright orders him. And that isn’t the only challenge that awaits Anne on her journey… First, I was pleasantly surprised at how the slavery aspect was addressed. As much as Anne wants to befriend him, Challe makes it clear that there can be no sort of “friendship” as long as Anne holds control of him as her slave. While he does warm up to her over the course of the volume, it is clear that his enslavement is a huge roadblock in their relationship. There’s also a good look at how Anne is trying to deal with her mother’s death, and how that drives her desire to become a Silver Sugar Master. I’m not quite as much of a fan of the third major character in the story, Anne’s “hopeless suitor” Jonas, who is unpleasant in a lot of ways; but at least things involving him are wrapped up in the volume in a fairly satisfying way. Overall, this volume was enjoyable enough to recommend to those who enjoy shoujo-style light novels. ~ stardf29

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You, Manga Vol. 1
I am so very thankful for manga recommendations from other people! If it hadn’t been for my friend Shae at ShaeGeeksOut on YouTube recommending Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You, I would have completely missed out on this super-cute read! This heart-warming story centers on a former troublemaker, Sota, and a prim-and-proper “princess,” Sakura. While it seems they are from two different worlds and potentially have nothing in common, that doesn’t stop them both from secretly wanting to get to know each other. But they can’t seem to find their footing and actually have a conversation! These two are so precious to watch as their romance slowly unfolds through a series of misunderstandings and attempts to talk to one another! I will be quick to say that I absolutely loved this story! However, as soon as it arrived in the mail, I pushed it off on my husband since I knew he was looking for a romantic comedy to read. I was completely thrilled that he enjoyed it too! We both laughed more than once when reading, and I personally couldn’t get over these characters’ attempts to talk to each other as they end up misunderstanding one another or start blushing. It was so cute! The art is also excellent, and I really loved the character designs and expressions. I would highly recommend this manga if you’re looking for a cute, drama-free romantic comedy! I know it’s going to be a great series, and I can’t wait for the release of volume two! ~ Laura A. Grace

Banished from the Hero’s Party: I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside, Manga Vol. 3
When you’re a person of consequence, it’s difficult to live a life free of the responsibility of your power. Rit, the princess, and Red, the brilliant brother of the hero, continue their attempt to live out an idyllic existence as village apothecaries. But the past is chasing them down in the form of a one-time comrade, a traitor, and a mysterious man who may be most formidable of all. Volume three of Banished From the Hero’s Party continues to put forth all those good vibes that come along with the blossoming, cottagecore-brushed relationship between Rit and Red, but tensions are quickly rising. A considerable part of these chapters are spent on the turncoat Dir, providing the mangaka an opportunity to give more context for both Red’s relationship with Rit in the past and for his camaraderie with his former party, including his sister, whom we learn much more about in these chapters. She is equal parts dopey and terrifying. The fantasy elements of the tale are becoming stronger, accompanied and strengthened by Masahiro Ikeno’s beautiful artwork. I’m still most compelled by the peaceful elements of the story, but as it turns more and more toward adventure, I’m hopeful that the story will continue on this upward trajectory. ~ Twwk

Fly Me to the Moon, Manga Vols. 12-13
These volumes build on the previously introduced plot thread of Nasa’s job at a girls’ high school. There’s a discussion of whether Tsukasa is jealous—and should she be? We have some comedic encounters with specific students. In volume thirteen, we finally get a proper introduction to a mysterious student named Kaguya; her name implies a connection to the moon. Nasa has a mysterious dream about his wife. Oh, and now Aya wants Nasa to dig a pond, which leads to Tsukasa discovering how cool her husband can be. Later, thanks to Aya’s bullying, Nasa and Tsukasa get dragged out to a “haunted” mansion by the school film club (hilariously, the students actually recognize Aya as a content creator!). It kind of looks like we might be heading toward an encounter between moon-associated Tsukasa and moon-associated Kaguya. It is hard to know what to say about this series at this point. It’s still the sweet romantic comedy with nerdy references and hints of mystery that it’s always been. You probably know by now if you like it, so I’m not sure what else to write about. I still like this manga and plan to keep reading it. ~ Jeskai

Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible, Manga Vol. 4
Kubo and Shiraishi finally go on their first date! Of course, this being a romcom manga, it’s not like an “official” real date, but it might as well be. And the result? The date, taking place over several chapters, is equal parts cute and meh, the former because that’s what Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible excels at—”aww” moments between the leads when they watch a movie together, or compare their heights with one another, or touch each other’s hair—and the latter when the series tries to be more serious, such as when it sexualizes Kubo or tries to create a bit of physical intimacy between the leads. The artwork in this series is amateurish and, in fact, feels like it’s regressed somewhat over the volumes. The characters are cutesy but not detailed, and many panels appear half-finished. So when there’s supposed to be some sort of sexual tension between Kubo and the very comically-drawn Shiraishi, it feels out of place, as if the mangaka doesn’t know his own series. Those scenes, combined with the fairly dull early chapters in volume four, remind me that, by this point, Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible is what it is: A romcom with plenty of cute moments that’s good for filling time, but which won’t ever leave you clamoring for more. ~ Twwk
