This needs to stop

I really contemplated if to put these words down, but I am so angry and disappointed and sad at this point that I felt I had to vent.

Disappointed. I think that's the key word for what I am feeling right now.

I understand that people are upset/angry/enraged by the shit that followed JM's release of his first solo album Face. I understand because I am enraged as well.

I have no doubt in my mind that he was wronged.

He succeeded beyond anyone's dreams and probably kind of ruined certain dreams some of these people had of their own.

But to take that anger and to turn it on the one person that supported and supports JM beyond any of us is infuriating to me.

Turning on JK?

Because of what? A shithead called Scooter Braun, who has his own personal agenda and history shows us has zero real interest or care in the actual artists he is pushing?

Do people forget who JK is?

Do they need a reminder course here?

I guess I will have to give them one.

JK is JM's favourite person in the whole world.

And instead of seeing what JK is trying to tell us, his fans, Jikookers as well, are turning on him?

Making JK out to be someone that doesn't have an original idea and goes and steals JM's is disrespectful to both JK and JM, btw.

JM is a 27 strong willed young man. And evidently, JM has no issues with JK of late.

JK is a 25 yo creative artistic young man, who adores and admires and lives for JM, and would NEVER steal something from JM, never take something of JM's and pass it on as his own.

Do they not understand that JM is joking when he calls JK his copycat? Has been for years now.

Did they not see the joy and love in his eyes when JK said "I'm hyung's copycat"?

He knows that JK looks up to him.

JM was wronged. We can agree on that. The COMPANY could have and should have done better.

heyy pile one. so the people from your past see you as someone who is extremely attractive, nurturing, creative, and divine. although some people from your past may feel like it's unfair that you have these aspects to you, maybe because of something you did in the past that they think wasn't right. but, remember, these people are from your past so they didn't get to see your growth mentally, spiritually nor physically. some of the people in your past are very jealous that you're in this energy and they could possibly be wishing bad luck on you, but i'm seeing that all of this energy is being sent right back to them. they may think that wishing on your downfall is going to work, when in reality they're literally ruining everything they are trying to accomplish by doing this. i feel like you may have a few past connections that didn't get very far because you realized they were not aligned with you so you ghosted them pretty early in the connection; these could be the people who are wishing bad on you. these people are definitely in a one-sided competition with you, pile one. i feel like you rarely even think about these people and when you do, you may even wish good for them?? you're not the type to sit there and pray on people's downfall because you understand karma and you just know that some people are kind-hearted and some people are not so you don't spend too much time worrying about it. if these people are trying to do any type of magick on you or sending you evil eye, it is literally reflecting right back to themselves and causing them to look deeply within themselves. this may be very triggering to some of them, which could intensify their negative emotions towards you. but this is all due to you being the empress and shining so brightly and having such a loving and beautiful energy within you, so do not worry about this, pile one. just do what you need to do for protection and let karma handle the rest. i'm sorry that this was so negative lol. you guys must be some high-value people in their eyes.

hiiii pile two. so, some people from your past may think that you are currently in hiding because you are releasing some sort of fear that you once had. they could think that you're taking time to yourself because you're currently confused in a situation, and that you're receiving bad luck?? but i also get the feeling that these people from your past have little to no access to you at all so they're not sure what to think, so it's a whole bunch of assuming based off what they knew about you from back then. some of these people from your past feel as though you're currently taking a break from someone/something, possibly social media and your creative endeavors. a lot of them wonder what you're doing since you seem to be a mystery to them, and they even wonder how is it that you don't talk about your every move like they possibly do lol. wow, okay now i'm getting a totally different energy. so, people are really confused and have absolutely no clue what to think of you right now, pile two. there's one group of people who think you've taken your energy back because you're possibly sad, confused, stuck and having back luck, but a whole other group of people think that you're currently going through a lot of self-love, celebration, harmony, fulfillment and working for/on yourself. people honestly don't know what to expect from you and they cannot wait to see how you're doing whenever you allow them access (if you ever do.) these people are really nosy and make a lot of assumptions, but the fact that they have no clue what you're doing is very alluring and mysterious to them and i can see them frequently checking your social media pages or asking mutual friends about you. if there are any people from your past who do have some sort of access to your energy, they do see you as someone who is working on themselves and achieving self-love and independence and they really admire you for this. they could've seen you at a time where you were less than happy about life in general, but now they see something totally different and they're very happy for you!

how are you, pile three? so, people from your past think that you are someone who is currently working on themselves (much like pile two) but this could trigger them to want to give you an emotional offer, but i don't think this offer would be of any interest to you, pile three. even if you were to be interested, i just don't think they'd have what it takes to fulfill you emotionally nor mentally. they just want to offer you something because they see the growth and determination you have to achieve more than you already have. a lot of people from your past are extremely curious about you and what you have going on creatively and emotionally. they want to know who you're dating, who you're friends with, what family members you still talk to and so on. these people see you as someone with a lot of strength, possibly because of something that could've happened to you in the past that hurt you, or just the energy you used to be in. these people from your past are not used to seeing this version of you and it's really intimidating, but also really exciting to them. i feel like only the confident ones would have the guts to reach out and offer you something; most of them are too scared to initiate conversation because they feel like you'd ignore their message and possibly even make fun of them (these could be people who bullied you and/or rejected you in the past.) oh, yeah these people definitely see the potential you have to finish all of your projects and goals. people from your past think that you are very content with what you have and that you do not need their energy like you once did. they also think that you are someone who is financially independent and that you're hard-working and well off! they also feel like you are very balanced when it comes to your daily activities and you know when to rest and when to take action, which could be difficult for some of these people to do.

Well, it's like I knew. Not hard to guess, really.

Gather round, Citytv (for this exercise we are pretending that they want to learn) and Hudson and Rex folks, because I'm about to tell you what you need to show in a season premiere. Now, you may think that because I've never done tv in my life I'm not qualified to give that advice, but as an audience I've consumed tons of it, and sadly for you, 90% of it were crime shows. And since I don't see anyone from either Citytv or Hudson and Rex knowing what you need to show in a premiere either (like, in any season), let me be the one to tell you.

DO:

Have action packed episodes. Chases, runs, car chases, fires, shootings, terrorists (in St. John's? Well, people are crazy), general mayhem and chaos. It's a crime show. I mean, I don't expect them to happen all at the same time, but from what I saw in the season promo, some of these do happen in later episodes. Were there any shots from the premiere included in the season promo, by the way? Because that was actually action packed.

Have your characters display emotions! Which also makes your actors show that they are indeed actors. These are the kind of episodes that make me reconsider my entire stance on AI.

Set up a season arc. Plant tidbits that will lead somewhere eventually. Revolutionary idea, I know.

Show character bonds. It doesn't have to be Charah. Charlie's "Here comes the team" or something like that is followed by an episode of how much not like a team they operate. Singular and isolated. Absurd. And while in the final scene, they seem to be all boarding the ship, in the end we only see Charlie and Rex in the shot?

DO NOT:

Make the episode a "Visit Newfoundland" spot. No one cares to see that in the season premiere. It's a nice place and if I could throw that much money on a single trip, I'd be there in an instant, but put it somewhere other than the premiere that we've been expecting for more than five months.

Make your episode vastly different from what the rest of the season is going to be like. Unless this is meant to warn me that we're going to spend the rest of the season on a boat searching for missing people. That's a general issue with this show's premiere episodes, and I'm struggling to understand why they do it. It sets up false expectations for the entire season.

Neglect your characters in the first fucking episode of the season. I think the whales had more sreentime than Sarah. Also, I'd love to know what happened to Karma, although understandably, that wasn't an episode where you had to involved a coroner.

Now, I'm unsure of this, so I apologize if I'm wrong, but I think they even used shots of Charlie from S3 for the shots where he comes out of the water. If you have him wearing the diver suit, have him dive. If he doesn't want to dive or the water is like five degrees, don't replace that with old shots. Just do something different.

Anyway, I feel that while a lot of things they did fell flat, that doesn't really discourage me from watching the rest of the season because they've always pulled this kind of shit in the premiere. In a show like Hudson and Rex, you just have to weigh the good and bad episodes in the end and only from that you can conclude whether it was a good or bad season. They are all single episodes after all, it's not like you can judge whether an arc is good or bad because there's usually no arc.

Biggest win: I spent a bit of time whining about it, so I'll just say that Charlie's hair is fine. For now lol. I still don't get what the hell they did to him in the promo photos. Citytv, I've got a few upscalers and editing software to recommend to you.

#hudson and rex #to be fair as soon as I saw whales in the summary I knew this was going to be a mediocre premiere #and also because their premieres are usually like that #but I just kept out hope #eh what can you do (aside from wait for the next episode which seems better lol) #and since this isn't a very positive post I'll just remind people #that the original rex was one of my favorite shows #so it's not like I'm whining because charlie and rex were the focal point of the episode (I know this is the show) #but it's like getting a good chicken and throwing it in the oven on its own #no spice no other ingredients at all #in the end all it can be is a good chicken #and I'm sorry to say this but this chicken was a bit charred on the edges too #sorry for that metaphor lol I'm just hungry

Hauyne and Electra's opinions on Aelita, Melia and Amber?

Hauyne Aelita Her closest friend! Also might be one of the few people she consistently liked across the cycles because, let's be honest, Aelita's been one of the nicest characters in the game since her first introduction in v2 and she hasn't changed much on that front (there's her whole Vivian's Madness thing, but that's an outlier so I'll just ignore that lol). However, she does find her a bit too gung-ho about things sometimes, and has to help rein in her enthusiasm back a few notches. But other than that, a good friend she could lean back on if need be.

Melia Truth be told, she didn't like Melia at first. Especially not in her earlier incarnations up until the fifth or sixth cycle. She finds her annoying, having too much self-pity and too much of an attention hog, oftentimes shamelessly taking credit for the things she did, and for the longest time she has a strong suspicion that the only reason past Melia kept her around was because she's the strongest "wrecking ball" within her reach. Despite that, she still does her best to protect her, because of the promise she made to Jenner, but even then it doesn't stop the resentment from building. Not when she has enablers (aka their "friends") around acting like Melia's the best thing to exist ever, and she the trash of the gutter even though she contributed the most in resolving their problems.

But in the seventh cycle and onwards? That Melia was definitely a huge improvement over the Melias she had to deal with in the past, and she was more than happy to stick with this one. At least this one had more strength of character, and made numerous attempts to show she cared for her as a person and as a friend. Since then, she's warmed up to Melia, starting to finally accept her as someone she could consider as a good friend.

In the current cycle, Melia's one of the few people who she could relate to, as at that point the struggles they went through together could not be truly understood by anyone other than the ones who experienced it themselves. Right now she views Melia as part of the little found family they made after everything they went through, despite the grievances she had for Melia in the earlier cycles.

Amber In her verse, Tesla adopted Hauyne shortly after the events of Mt. Valor, so the two are adoptive sisters! Which is funny because they got along as well as water and oil when they first met; not because Hauyne hated her on sight, honestly, but the other way around. She never hated Amber, not even when they first met in the seventh cycle, although she admittedly did find her contrarian attitude somewhat irritating since it was actively hindering their mission to stop Team Xen. Regardless, she did put up with her nonsense with a stiff upper lip for Tesla's sake and for the sake of getting the relic, although their relationship was neutral at best until the whole kidnapping incident and she had to save them from Kyogre.

Ever since then, they started to get along well, and they eventually were on good terms enough that she didn't mind being adopted into the von Brandt family. Currently, she sees Amber as the lovable younger sister, even if she has her annoying moments as all younger siblings do.

Electra Aelita Electra actually had a huge crush on Aelita... well, used to, until she regained her memories and uncovered the painful truth behind her past. After that, she started seeing her former crush in a negative light, even disgusted at herself for feeling that way for Aelita. Ever since the events of .karma files, she kept her distance from everyone, especially Aelita, out of misplaced anger towards them. The whole sentiment wasn't logical to begin with, but then again after discovering what happened to her Old World, her mental state was at an all-time low; she couldn't accept the truth, and so she picked the easiest target as a scapegoat for her loss: the people of the new world.

Melia At first, she and Melia got along well, bonding over their shared interests of photography and tinkering. And at some point, she once considered Melia as one of her closest friends... that is, until she crossed that Despair Event Horizon in the form of her Nightmare Realm. Out of everyone, she resented Melia and her siblings the worst, if only because they were successful vessels of the Archetype while she perished after suffering a slow, painful death at the hands of Genesis Syndrome. And also misplacing the blame of the loss of her old life on them, as she believed that had they been there, the Old World would never be erased and replaced by the new world. It's a pitiful, sad situation, really.

Amber Doesn't have much of an opinion of her, aside from her initial impression of Amber as "an annoying spoiled brat". It got worse during the events of .karma files, where she would constantly brush off Amber's invitations to hang out if not outright snapping at her harshly to leave her alone. Mostly because Amber reminded her of her deceased sibling, and she hated that reminder - the reminder of what she lost and of her vain sacrifice for a company that cared little for anyone except its own wellbeing even as the world crumbled around them.

18) Last time they felt broken? Basing these on the current timeline in each of my HCs. For Eli & Zoe, their timeline is in the future, so I'll go based on what I have written for them so far. Ethan: Before they found the antidote after the chemical attack, and he was terrified of losing Kaycee. Of course, he was running on adrenaline at the time, so it sort of hit him after. But then he had to deal with the emotions, his true feelings, etc. So, our boy had a lot going on.

Kaycee: It was around the same time, but it centered more on survivor guilt because she survived and Bobby & Danny did not.

Tobias: It would also be the chemical attack at this point (though he has another big event in the future). He and Casey weren't together at the time; she had recently broken up with him. In addition to being scared to death, he was also dealing with guilt because he felt if he hadn't stolen Stephanie, Casey wouldn't have stolen Farruggia, and she wouldn't be in this situation. (Ofc, this all led to them being together permanently, but he didn't know that then. lol)

Casey: It was also the aftermath of the attack. She really struggled with PTSD, and it took her quite a while to get back to being herself.

Trystan: While not addressed in canon, I think coping with the aftermath of all that happened in Book 2 would leave Trystan in rough shape for a while. Not to the point that he couldn't function, but I imagine he'd need some good therapy and would really lean on MC and some other good friends to get through.

Carolina: Her father's death. Yeah, she's dealt with many other things since, and she has a steely resolve that enables her to get through things. But I don't think she's ever fully dealt with the trauma of her father's death.

Eli: Poor Eli - he's always going to be a little broken after how he lost his family. He stayed in that place for so long after, and it wasn't until he met Zoe and the gang that he began to get out of that fog. But a tragedy that deep will never fully leave him.

Zoe: Zoe's in the same boat, more or less. Losing Ana was terribly difficult for her. However, she never had time to cope with that; she didn't have the luxury of breaking... good in some ways, bad in others, because she never fully heals from it.

Kaycee is listening to a lot of Taylor Swift. She's still not off of her Eras Tour high. She's also a fan of Olivia Rodrigo's new album, and none of this sits well with Ethan. lol Ethan is listening to his old standbys... opera, classics, and some standards like Sinatra. Although, while he may be loathe to admit it, Kaycee has introduced him to Noah Kahan, and he has definitely added some songs to his playlist. His favorites? Growing Sideways, Come Over, Still, and Paul Revere.

Trystan: He is a Taylor girlie, and I will die on this hill. He's listening to the 1989 revamp as well as Midnights, which he'll never get over. Most frequently played? Lavender Haze, Vigilante Shit, and Karma.

Carolina has a lot of Bad Bunny and Bruno Mars tunes blasting in her earbuds as of late. She isn't the biggest TS fan (though she listens to indulge Trystan), but she does have a thing for Vigilante Shit.

Tobias went to some preppy-ass rich kid school, so I'm sure archery was included in the phys ed curriculum at one point or another, so he's a yes. Casey, probably on a drunken dare, and it didn't go well. She swore off ever doing it again. lol

Trystan and Carolina are both yeses. I mean, the more they have in their arsenal, the better.

And we already know Eli and Zoe are the pros in this area. lol

Tobias: He really never gave it any thought at all. He was equal opportunity in the past because he wasn't looking for serious. But for him to settle down, he'd need someone who did something that he found stimulating on some level. Did it need to be another doctor? No. But while he would have been OK dating, say, a model or socialite for fun, that wouldn't have appealed to him long-term.

Casey: She never really had an idea of what profession her life partner would be. While the idea of them being in a field similar to hers was appealing, it was not a requirement. It was always more about the person than the occupation to her.

Trystan: He certainly didn't think it would be a detective. lol In the past, he assumed it would be another royal or socialite. After he was in exile, it probably didn't change much. Though I don't think he was looking to settle down after Juliana, he assumed if he would, it would be someone from his strata.

Carolina: Carolina did not feel she would end up in something long-term, and romance never preoccupied her thoughts. However, if she were asked, she would have assumed it would be someone from a blue-collar background not unlike her own.

Ethan: Has not, and would not for "superficial" cosmetic reasons. However, he would be open to it if it were to correct a major malformation due to an accident, etc.

Kaycee: She has not and probably will not. She believes in aging gracefully and being happy with what you are, but she would not be opposed if something were causing her to feel bad about herself.

Tobias: He has not, but he would be open to it if the procedure was very safe. It's not something he would do lightly, and he wouldn't be a regular, but he'd consider it if something really bothered him. (Ironically, he'd support Casey if she wanted to, but he'd be personally opposed because he thinks she's perfect as is.)

Casey: Her answer would be very similar to Tobias's. She wouldn't have work done lightly, only if something truly bothered her. I don't see her actually doing it.

Trystan: Has not, but yeah, he would lol

Carolina: It's nothing she ever considered, and she probably wouldn't, but she would not be opposed either. I can see her getting it if, say, she got a bad scar, and it was painful for her to see it. She'd have that corrected if she could.

Holy shit thank you for your post about liking characters that are “neither all good or all bad” because i like a lot of characters that tend to fall into the gray area, or whatever that’s called lol. It just makes the characters feels more “human” and more realistic that way

Although some of my aa favs got a lot of hate from the fandom (and some are underrated as hell, but understandable bc they’re like, victims) for doing something a normal human would do in a stressful/intense situation, even if it’s morally wrong, so yeah i do get why ppl hate them but i personally love how realistic they are for that. You are most welcome, friendo! There wasn't any one thing in particular that got me going, just a long history of my favorite characters getting dunked on that inspired me to finally write out my gripes. It's not just in one fandom either, I tend to be drawn to complicated characters and especially those who go through a major character arc that involves redemption, atonement, etc.

Black and white thinking/judgment is a problem hardly restricted to fandom and fiction, of course, but it's funny how uncomfortable certain circles get about "gray" characters and storylines.

For instance, one glance at my blog (cough) will tell you my "problematic" AA fave is Godot, a character somehow even more controversial and maligned in the fandom than multiple serial killers. And I mean, we've got three other prosecutors in this series who definitely and canonically got innocent people convicted/potentially executed for years, and one of them is easily the most popular character (hint: it's Edgeworth.) But you use one fundamentally decent guy as a tragic dark mirror of your protagonist to explore the concepts of toxic grief and the toll that denial and loneliness take on someone in a series all about the power of truth and friendship, and he's somehow painted as more  despicable than Manfred von goddamn Karma.

I just think it's funny, that's all! (and also that characters that make you think and ponder and argue are the best ones!!)

I loved how you gave your thoughts in the end about everything & the ending was not what I had expected at all, but I still do love it, I really loved how in most series some authors would have made the ending a bit more well winning (?) like Y/N's mom would be fully healed, all her bullies would go to jail, all that. I love how you kept it more realistic because like you said, they are all high schoolers after all & even though Y/N didn't completely get justice she did get a happy ending in my perspective. She was free from her bullies & even though her mom did die, she still had someone by her side, I feel like that's what Y/N had always wanted, freedom & friends, someone to be by her side when she needed them. I also loved how you didn't turn Y/N into a heartless person just because of revenge, like when Jake was dying, even though he & his friends had done some horrible things to her, she still saved him. Some other people would have written Y/N in such a way that she would just leave him dying, I really did like how you changed Jake in the end, I know some people would have gotten mad about that, but when Jake saw that even though he had done so many things to Y/N, she still saved him, it would have made him feel guilty about everything. Although it is hard to accept, even some of the most horrible people can change & I find it really nice that Y/N proposed to keep contact with Jake in the end. I just really loved how you portrayed Y/N in this series. It wasn't unrealistic or the typical 'Y/N' she was relatable in some ways & also showed that everyone, no matter who they are or what they've been through, deserve justice.

I am a little sad that the series is over & I'll have nothing to look forward to on Sundays😔but I'm also happy this is the end😭

yess I felt like I had to write a note at the end just bc of the ending being a bit '' unusual '' lol. I like it and I hope the majority do as well even tho u can't make everyone happy. I'm happy u thought that she did get a pretty happy ending as well. That's definitely all she wanted, I believe she didn't realize it until she caught feelings for Soobin and even more so towards the end when she realized just how lonely she'd always been; that THAT was way more important than any revenge. 💗

I love that you pointed that out bc I definitely wanted to highlight y/n's inner struggles and whether it's wrong for a victim to make that choice - to leave their perpetrator to suffer or to die, or if they are obliged to help. I feel like it was a super interesting psychological situation and I was super excited to see people's reactions to it. Turns out most people would've saved him, they felt for him in that moment despite his past actions.

Absolutely! He definitely changed because of that one crucial moment. It's hard to see that bc it's not exactly a common situation to be in, where you have a chance to save your bully's life or not. Either way, from my perspective it would change many people to be so close to death. You'd either fear that happening again, maybe connected to a spiritual idea of you being warned of karma or you'd just feel indebted to this person for life. In Jake's case, the debt was changing to show that he truly regretted what he did.

hi anon! i do think she was attracted by the fact that kijun looks richer (although given how he scammed hakyung and abrely put money into the partment i don't think he's really rich) and that he's more stable than siwoo (especially since siwoo's father takes his money regularly) but i think by the end of the relationship with siwoo she wasn't in love with him anymore, she didn't answer his text, didn't want to make plans with him, was cheating and she thought he was annoying for sending her pics of the sky...i think she kind of wanted and ideal life (especially because she's the youngest) and thought kijun would be better but as you say it's karma for them lol they both hurt people to be together and lied to each other and also clearly did not take enough time to think about what marriage actually means lol

and yeah i agree she mostly minds her own business and usually talks to siwoo only to make sure that her husband doesn't find out about her past and she doesn't want to keep in touch with him whereas kijun has no boundaries with hakyung and talks to her as if they were both responsible for their break up (the audacity), as if they were friends and he could still ask her favours etc and now he's also stalking her and siwoo like can't he go and fix his broken marriage instead! i think the latest episodes have really shown how dependant on hakyung he was even for his job and how she got used to helping him out out of love (which is why she couldn't say no at first but i think she's not going to do it again - she's clearly told him she doesn't want anything to do with him and talking with siwoo about his own insecurities means she's not going to do anything like this again or at least not without talking with siwoo first)

and honestly i agree, what did she see in him like??? i think it's a mix of him being a good actor when he needed something from her and knowing her well enough to just say the right thing and his his negative feelings and her looking for security and stability after being hurt by her father and so kind of ignoring the signs? they were together since college so they must've changed a lot together and she probably thought this is better than nothing, i can make it work but i'm glad breaking up with him and then being with siwoo makes her take care of herself better and see what she deserves! and also that he's so loving with her and affectionate, he makes sure she knows he likes her a lot and that's so sweet (especially because characters like him who are really good at something are often asshole to the FL in kdrama but not siwoo 🥰) and i hope they soon get her apartment just to themselves so they can be even sweeter with each other as much as they want!!

i think the funniest thing about the fight was when kijun attacked siwoo by throwing his jacket and this the sheets of paper at him like????

as someone who has thought too hard about ajr album themes I’d love to hear your takes on them

anon. anon you have indulged me

ok ok so. overwhelmingly ajr writes about childhood, work-life balance, a vague modern social issue or two, and growing up.

the click is much looser than the next two albums, but something about it is the recognition of unhappiness: ajr can't seem to reconcile their current fame with their childhood and who they want to be. stuff like drama, turning out, the good part, call my dad, sober up, and netflix trip all seem to reflect an unhappiness with how things currently are. they miss the naivety of childhood, the security in parents, the faith in a simple, good life.

they gave this all up for fame, but, as seen in three-thirty, i'm not famous, bud like you, and come hang out, that isn't exactly what they wanted. the only real contentment is with the vague addressing of social issues (no grass today and burn the house down make up the rest of the album), but in general, ajr isn't happy about leaving their life behind and isn't happy with their current life.

they're not kids, they're not adults, and they have all this influence but they don't know quite where to put it. that's why the songs where they're the most blatant about it, netflix trip, sober up, and turning out, feel the most authentic to me.

neotheater is my favorite of the three and addresses both the acknowledgement of their lives as a stage and theater that's all encompassing and overwhelming, and the fact that they need to grow up. There's still some shallow positivity (break my face, 100 bad days), but its working with the sadness rather than against it. the vague political stuff takes shape in birthday party, which while shallow, is admittedly more formed than in the click. it's all more honest? more true to their experiences? more pathetic? (in a good way)

karma and finale feel like a breakthrough in that it feels like peeling back a layer of ajr's mythos. their complaint with the industry isn't actually down to it's shallowness or flightiness: it's overwhelming, and it's not always rewarding. they're not Not famous anymore, they have people counting on them, and it's scary, and it's not getting easier even as they work at it. they're so strong because they feel genuine, not this hyped up version of themselves they try to present.

turning out pt ii is more active than pt i, it's no longer "I'm a little kid, I'm still turning out", it's "I think I probably wasn't in love with you". it's the actual turning out, the actual work. the album is characterized by therapy, responsibility, honesty, even a bit of a theme of birth w dear winter and birthday party lol. if the click is the realization of unhappiness, neotheater is the breaking down and the starting of the sorting out of the shit. it stops treating fame as this callous silly thing and more as the actual problem ajr has with it: anxiety inducing and not something they're above but very much rooted in and concerned about. ajr is no longer passively a little kid, nor is that version of themself as idolized (sober up and turning out vs birthday party and the role the inner child plays, for example). it's more self-critical, less nostalgic, with fame something they're facing head on rather than sideeying

finally, ok orchestra is a continuation of this, although I'm not as familiar with it yet. most of the album seems to be more about acceptance of the self, finally seeing improvements. my play (and my trick) is about the acknowledgement of how their childhood hurt them in some ways and why they're so obsessed with it even now. 3 o'clock things is our vaguely political annoying song but again. different. our guy laments not finishing college, acknowledges that these are dumb thoughts, acknowledges that he's afraid for people to see him without this lens of casualness (but GOD is it annoying).

anyway the most important song here to me is christmas in june. it's one of the closest things to a sincere expression of affection in a love-song esque way, and I just-- I love it? this band spends three albums lamenting about how they can never have work life balance but work comes first and it's so hard, and yet you don't feel it until this song. he admits to being kind of a dirtbag, but the sincereness of his promises to this person reads as endearing? it's a cheesy, rose-in-hand song that acknowledges he's afraid to fuck things up with his career and personal life, but it's so hopeful? he asks for christmas in june, asks life not to make him choose, and after three albums of wallowing in decisions it's a breath of fresh air to see such a simple sentiment of "god. I love both of these parts of my life and I want to accommodate both" rather than this false dichotomy.

come hang out is the last song of the click, and although I like it, it looks shallow compared to this:

the lyrics "I can't complain, I won't be mourning, cause I skipped on prom for Elvis Duran in the morning" are serious in the moment. this is a Big Boy, making a Big Decision, isn't he cool for sacrificing himself, it says, as a Cool Beat plays in the background.

in christmas in june, he playfully sings "I skipped prom, I thought I would blow up from that radio spot, remember how you chuckled when you heard that song". the girl is present here, the gravity of the situation is made later. it's a radio spot he thought he would blow up from, but he remembers he laughing at the song and it's all affectionate and silly. he was silly, for caring so much, even if he still worries even now. he's a different person here, one that isn't so driven but is happier for it, dreaming of christmas in june, yk?

rich people are literal parasites like. i used to live with this rich girl in uni and at a certain point my mental health plummeted so i went back home for like 5 months, but since i'm a fair person i was still gonna pay my share of the bills 100% even if i wasn't there. When january came i received a 400€ bill (heating) and a 200€ (water) one and i was bloody pissed because?? what did she do??? transform the apartment in a 24/7 sauna?? shower 10 times a day?? The bills used to be 100€ in total, never more than that, so I told her that i refused to pay all that amount, I'd pay the basic commissions and a certain amount but i wouldn't split in half the bill with her (I also didn't have the money to pay that, I had to sell some stuff). Then my landlord threatened that I had to pay the bills or he'd kick me out (he did that anyways, right in the middle of the semester) and I was like "ok, i'll do that, but right now i don't have money. You'll have to pay them and i'll send you a bank transfer in 2 weeks". Then she claimed that she had no money, as if she didn't withdraw 200€ every week for a whole year from the ATM right in front of me, she used to eat in restaurants 3-4 times a week!!! She was still pissed and spread lies about me in uni :) she complained to the landlord and that's how I was "gently coherced" to leave the place. It's hilarious because when i lived in the apt she'd come to my room unannounced and turn down the heater in my bedroom because I was "consuming" too much. At first I let it slide but then it got colder and I asked her if she could lend me a heavier set of duvets and she gave me one, but that time I went back home and refused to split that bill she got all pissed and claimed that I am "withholding her propriety". which was a 20€ flimsy ikea bedsheet...that she could have taken from my bedroom at any time since I wasn't living in the apartment at the time. She was so toxic and even assaulted me physically, she was the reason my mental health went down the drain, so when I went to withdraw from the bills contract, instead of transferring ownership to her I just decided to end the contract lol and she stayed without electricity and warm water for a few days. I had my little moment of vengeance, but after a week she sent me a bill and threatened to call the police and sue (?) me. She literally blew everything up out of proportions, bc in the end I still paid the bills, although two weeks late. So what was the problem? I wish a bloody knew. She had me kicked out and isolated from all the people i knew in uni. Rich people are pathetic. But karma is real, and she'll reap what she sow.
