Does Pittsburgh Really Have a Fountain Of Youth?
The Fountain of Youth in North Park: A Pittsburgh Urban Legend Is there really a fountain of youth in North Park outside of Pittsburgh?  The answer to this question is… yes.   Kind of.   Why is it an urban legend?  Well… because you supposedly have to discover a fountain of youth, not create one! Built in the late 1930s, this roadside attraction near Pittsburgh was part of a broader government…

So, I received the good news that the Fountain of Youth is actually found right here in Pittsburgh, rather than in Florida where the legends embraced by the Imperial Spaniards indicated it as being. Brand: View-Master Packet Title: Florida Booklet Title: View-Master Presents Florida Booklet Subtitle: The Peninsula State Date: 1955
Note: When reading the booklet descriptions, please remember that these booklets are old (most are 65+ years old) and the information and history presented in them as factual may be inaccurate, outdated, and in some cases, offensive.
Booklet Introduction Description: Ponce de Leon really missed a bet. He landed near St. Augustine one April in 1513 in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth, then sailed away! During the 1940-1950 decade, 600,000 people from other states moved to Florida convinced that they had found what Ponce de Leon had overlooked. Their fountain of youth consists of basking in the Florida sun acquiring that native tan, sailing and fishing in the warm waters that lap the nation's longest coastline, and sleeping under subtropical stars in a night cooled by the trade winds.
Florida Facts and Figures When Ponce de Leon landed on the Florida coast it was Easter Sunday which in Spanish is Pascua florida, hence "Florida". The State Flower is the Orange Blossom; the State Bird is the Mocking-bird; the Tree is the Cabbage or Sabal Palm; the Song is "The Swanee River" by Stephen Foster; and the Motto is the same as that found on all U. S. coins, "In God We Trust." Almost twice as many vacationers and winter guests visit the state of Florida as live there. The income from the 5 million tourists, $930 million is the state's largest single source of income. A combination of all year sunshine and plentiful rainfall has resulted in Florida's world leadership in oranges. Over half the nation's and a quarter of the world's supply of oranges are grown in the state. Most of the nation's winter vegetables come from Florida truck gardens, and in south Florida tropical fruits are grown - avocado, mango, guava, papaya, litchi fruit, and coconuts. Hotel-keeping must be the state's leading industry, but it also leads the nation in cigar making, sponge harvesting and phosphate mining. The largest cigar factory in the world is in Jacksonville. Every spring, baseball comes to Florida. Twelve of the sixteen major league teams plus 77 minor league teams hold spring training here.
The State and Its People Florida has an area of 58,560 square miles and is 21st in size among the states. It has the longest coastline, 2,077 miles. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, the Florida Straits on the south separates it from Cuba; the Gulf of Mexico washes its western shores; and Alabama and Georgia lie north. Only Delaware and Louisiana lie lower than Florida whose average elevation is 100 feet. The highest point in the state is 325 feet at Iron Mountain upon which is built the famous Bok Singing Tower. The southern tip of the state is Everglade country where the land is so low that it appears as small hummocks or patches of grass growing out of swampy water. Everglades National Park is located here. The 1950 population of Florida was 2,711,305, ranking twentieth among the states. It is the fastest growing state east of the Rockies having increased its popular 46.1% from 1940 to 1950. Famous Floridians include: Osceola, the great Seminole Indian war chief who was never defeated but finally tricked into imprisonment; John Gorrie, of Apalachicola, inventor of mechanical refrigeration; Marjorie Kinnar Rawlings, whose Pulitzer prize novel, The Yearling” dealt with the Florida backwoods; and Joseph W. "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell, commander of the China-Burma-India Theater of War.
Highlights of History After discovering Florida, Ponce de Leon landed two shiploads of colonists at Charlotte Harbor in 1521, but constant clashes with the Indians resulted in his death and the abandonment of the colony. Tales of fabulous cities of gold (which were not to spring up until the 20th century) lured other Spanish explorers. Hernando de Soto landed in the Tampa area in 1539 to begin a four year march. Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, Captain General of the Spanish treasure fleets, came to Florida in 1565 to found St. Augustine and a line of posts from Tampa Bay to Port Royal, South Carolina. After the British captured Havana, Cuba, in 1763, Spain agreed to trade Florida for the Cuban capital. But after the American Revolution, the British were squeezed in by the new United States and Spanish strongholds to the south. They ceded Florida to Spain from whom the United States bought it in 1819 for $5 million. With the creation of the Florida Territory in 1822 came Indian trouble. The Seven-Year Seminole Wars ending in 1842 cost the lives of 1,500 American soldiers but brought eventual peace paving the way for statehood which was granted on March 3, 1845.

Roc Nation Artist Victory Drops New Single “Just Like In Heaven”
Tumblr media
Today, Grammy Award winning Victory drops her new single, “Just Like In Heaven” from her upcoming sophomore album that will be released this spring. The track showcases Victory’s distinct and soulful vocals, bringing the full measure of her talent that blends gospel, blues, folk, pop, and soul musical styles.  “Just Like In Heaven” follows the breakout song “El Shaddai” which has more than garnered more than 1.2 M Facebook views. Says Victory: “Who says prayer has to be boring? ‘Just Like in Heaven’ is a prayer inspired by the words of Jesus with a beat inspired by Kanye. I wrote this song with the purpose of making prayer more easily accessible and culturally appealing to the youth of our generation.”
Tumblr media
Victory’s first two collections on Roc Nation includes her EP “It’s a New Dawn” (2017), and the critically acclaimed debut album “The Broken Instrument” (2018). Growing up in a family deeply committed to music and live performances, Victory is one of nine siblings who sang in the Boys & Girls Choir of Detroit, an organization founded by her father John Boyd. Taking music seriously as a career from the start, she began singing with the choir at age four, and later studied jazz guitar. When she was 12, the family moved to North Bergen, New Jersey, and they started busking together using various names – including Peace Industry Music Group – at NYC tourist attractions and on subway platforms. The Boyds became particularly renowned for their appearances in the Minton Tile Arcade next to Bethesda Fountain, a spot favored for its great acoustics. Just Like In Heaven - Victory https://youtu.be/jWSn5nd44qg Victory and four of her siblings – older brother Abraham and younger siblings Angel, Israel and Momo — later formed the offshoot group, Infinity’s Song, which rose to national prominence in 2015 after Tori Kelly happened upon them performing UNITED’s “Oceans” one day in Central Park — and joined in. A video of the impromptu performance went viral (1.2M views on YouTube).  Also in 2015, Peace Industry Music Group released Infinity’s Song’s self-titled debut album. Victory was then personally signed by Jay-Z to Roc Nation, releasing It’s A New Dawn. The EP featured her beautiful renditions of songs by two of her greatest influences, Nina Simone (“Feeling Good”) and Stevie Wonder (“Overjoyed”). In 2020, Infinity’s Song released their label debut Mad Love.  After being the primary lyricist and contributing Christ centered lyrics to Kanye West’s songs “Closed On Sunday” and “God Is,” in 2019, Victory won her first Grammy for her work on the album, “Jesus Is King.” Read the full article

Salazar Park
Located at the corner of Whittier and Ditman in Commerce CA, this modestly-sized park is home to a number of community amenities and features. It’s a great place to unwind and let the kids burn off some steam.
Most noteworthy:
This is the site of the newest addition to Commerce’s award-winning park system, a 1.2-acre children’s playspace that was completed in July. This space is a welcome addition to the community and will be enjoyed by generations of young and old.
What’s more, it’s the first of its kind in the city and a true test of the community’s ability to provide for the needs of the city’s youth.
The most impressive thing about this space is that it’s accessible to all, not just the elite few.
In short, it’s the best community space in the City of Commerce.
The award-winning park was a collaboration between First 5 LA and seven other organizations, including Amigos de los Rios, Los Angeles Conservation Corps, the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative, Los Angeles Parks Foundation, North East Trees and Shane’s Inspiration.
For more information on the space and all of its other wonders, please visit the park’s website.
The site is also home to an impressively-designed public art installation, a nifty-looking fountain and the most recent addition to the City’s acclaimed library.
What’s more, it’s all made possible by the latest in digital technology and smart transportation design.
The best way to get to Salazar Park is by using Moovit, the smart transit app that connects you with real-time bus and rail information. The app is free to download and uses GPS technology to get you where you need to go.

On an island near one of these springs was said to have been where Juan Ortiz lived until his death almost 300 years later (1566).

Timucuan Indians are the Tamerikhans
Timucuan Indians are the copper colored or swarthy Tamerikhans (Tameri-Khans) depicted on the 1657 map of La floridas which has the Nationality of Tamerikaans listed under the plaque of La Floridas on this map.

Moors land
Moorman (Mormon) means Moor, and Blackamoor according to the Dictionary of the English and Dutch Languages. We know that Moor and Blackamoor both mean dark skin or Negro in some dictionaries
Kingdom of Prester John
Closeup view of the 1635 Blaeu Map of Central Africa - the Kingdom of Prester John. Yes, Prester John was the Emperor of Aethiopia (Ethiopia), but which Ethiopia because there was three of them in ancient times.
Prester John Emperor of Abyssinia
This is a painting of Prester John the King of Abyssinia (Ethiopia Superior in the Americas). Prester John was King David of the Bible and John the Baptist (the Fountian of Youth) and he was King of the three Indies/ three Ethiopia's, aka, the World. The Magical kingdom of Disney Land in Orlando, Florida was one of his palaces.
Fountian of Youth Entrance
Florida has the highest concentration of freshwater springs in the world, plus the legend of the Fountian of Youth puts it in Florida (Ethiopia), so yes, Florida would be a good place to look for the fountain of youth but where? We have clues since Saint Augustine Florida is the oldest city and America and there is a Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park located on San Marco Avenue with the words, Fountain of Youth on its entrance.
Map of the Original Garden of Eden
Map of the Original Garden of Eden in Bristol, Florida. This map lists Florida as Ethiopia (Cush/ Kush) and Assyria (Babylon, Akkadian (Acadian), Iran, Turkey: lower Mesopotamia). The Assyrians were allies of the Egyptians, aka, the Tamerikaans (Tameri-khans).
1718 map of La Louisiane
1718 French map of La Louisiane. The Spanish called this landmass La floridas (Tameri). The British called this landmass Carolana (Black land).
Carolana, "The land of the Blacks."
The interesting thing about the Ouachita Mountains and the Arkansas Valley (Indus Valley) area is that there was once a Nahari, Arkansas near this area. Naharina means, "Nile Land," and you can locate Nahari on this 1741 Map of Carolana and the River Meschacebe & c. Yes, Carolana (Carolina) was once a vast Country, and it is part of Grand or Superior Turkey, since we know that North and South Carolina (Kara-lana) in America was ancient Turkey. Carolana is Turkish and it means “Land of the Blacks”, aka, Ethiopia or Tameri (Lower). For example, Caro/Kara in Turkish, means “Black,” while Lana is Turkish and Latin for “Land.”
Tameri, "The land of the Maurs."
In this post is a 1657 map of La floridas that is identical to the 1741 map of Carolana that was shared above, since this map of La floridas is identical in size, shape, and location, so we are dealing with the same land and territory here. The interesting thing about the map of La floridas is that it has “Tamerikaans” (Tameri-Khans), written above the plaque of Florida. Tameri is an old name for ancient Egypt, and it means land of Mary (Mauritania) or the land of the Maurs. La Florida or Carolana (Lower Ethiopia/Egypt) used to be part of the Washitaw Proper, aka, Louisiana county, according to old maps from the 1700's, so... yes..., this landmass was indeed, Tameri, "the Maurs land or the land of the Maurs." Look how big La Florida used to be and it covered several states reaching all the way over into Texas and reached all the way up into Canada. Texas and several other states used to be part of Mexico. Mexico was also Southern Arabia. Mexico means "In the Center of the Moon."

Timucuan Indians in Florida
Black Timucuan Indians in Florida 1562-1568. Some of the images in this painting were obviously whitewashed, but we will take it. I love the turbans these Timucuans wore, since they were Ethiopians (Kushites) or Moors.

Timucuan Map
Timucuan Map and other Florida Indian Tribes.
Additionally, Timucuan are Tamerikhan are etymologically and phonetically the same word due to similar spelling and similar pronunciation. However, let’s break it down even further since the root of Timucuan is Timu (Tame), which is short for Tameri since the vowels are sacred and interchangeable, and were sometimes omitted in words.
The suffix of Timucuan is Cuan, which is obviously Khan since the letters C and U in Cuan are equivalent to the letters K and H in Khan, and these two letters can be substituted because they are interchangeable, like vowels. Therefore, when you combine the prefix and the suffix of Timu-cuan you will form the word Tamerikhan using my breakdown or interpretation. Khan (Can) is an Asian title that means king or priest.
Tamerikhan is one of the root-words of America. For example, T-ameri-khan is American if you remove the letter T from in front of the word Tamerikhan. Tameri or Amaru (T-amaru) is derived from the Sumerian god Amurru. Tameri is also an old name for Egypt, and it relates to Ethiopia Superior, aka, Abyssinia, and Assyrian, which was the huge landmass known as La floridas (Tameri or Ethiopia), La Louisiana (Acadian=Akkadian= Sumerian, Assyrian & Babylonian), and Carolana (Black land). Tameri also means the land of the Maurs or the land of Mary: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/nineveh-was-jacksonville-florida/
The blog post shared above, “Jacksonville is Nineveh,” proves that Jacksonville, Florida was the Biblical Nineveh (Assyria), and it proves everything stated in the above paragraph. In the said blog post is a map of the Original Garden of Eden that designates the State of Florida as the Biblical Ethiopia (Abyssinia) and Assyria.
The Timucuan Indians had a vast territory of land that covered most of North Florida and central Florida, prior to the Spanish invasion of Florida in the 1500’s, as you can see by viewing the map of the territory of the Timucuan Indians. The territory of Timucua included Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, Callahan, Tampa, Orlando, etc.
The Timucuan were the first Natives of Florida, and they were a race of giants. The average height for the Timucuan man was between 7 and 8 feet tall. The average lifespan of the Timucuan Indians was between 300 and 350 years, according to Dr. Longo’s video from the YouTube channel “Old World Florida” entitled, “Hurricane Special: Audio Didactic + Dr. Longo”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMBQ8Er7Eg0.
Dr. Longo and I believe that the reason the Timucuan Indians were able to live for so long was due to a healthy diet and the fresh spring water from the Fountain of Youth located in Saint Augustine, Florida, which is in Timucuan territory (Ethiopia and Assyria).
Saint Augustine, Florida is the oldest city in America, allegedly founded by the Spanish in the Early 1500’s during the Spanish invasion. However, the problem with this academic lie is that “An archaeological dig in St. Augustine in 2006 revealed a Timucuan site dating back to between 1100 and 1300 AD, predating the European founding of the city by more than two centuries. Included in the discovery were pottery, with pieces from the Macon, Georgia area, indicating an expansive trade network; and two human skeletons. It is the oldest archaeological site in the city.[8]” [end quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timucua].
This means that the Venetian (Phoenician) Gothic Architecture (Moorish or Tartarian architecture) that use to cover Saint Augustine, Jacksonville, and all of Florida, was built prior to the Spanish invasion of the 1500’s by the Maurs or the Tamerikhans if you hate the term Maur.
One of the master builders of Prester John’s Kingdom of India Superior/ Ethiopia Superior (Abyssinia or La Floridas) was Saint Thomas the Apostle, the Patron saint of India, who was a magi (magician) that built some of these Gothic structures with the use of magic. “Gothic comes from goetia (‘to elevate by magical force’), whose extension is goeteuein (‘to bewitch’)”. Gothic Architecture is also a Moorish or a Tartarian mode of workmanship, according to the textbook, “A Dictionary of the Architecture and Archaeology of the Middle Ages.” Gothic building is also Castle building that comes from Ethiopia since the oldest castles are in Ethiopia, but which Ethiopia since it was three of them? We have a connection to Ethiopia since Tameri (La Floridas) is Ethiopia Superior and India Superior, aka, the land of the Maurs or Moorenland, which means the country of the Maurs. Ethiopia was Moorenland, according to the definition from Webster’s Dictionary.
The Emperor of Ethiopia Superior (Abyssinia) or La Floridas was Prester John (Saint John). This blog post has a map with Prester John being designated as the Emperor of Abyssinia and Ethiopia Superior. In this post is a painting of Prester John that designates him as the Emperor of Abyssinia and it shows him holding the Phoenician Taw (X) in his hand and wearing green and red, which are the colors of the Maurs (Saracens) and Israel: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/the-greater-morocco-was-in-the-americas/.
I love the little Dwarf, Smurf, Pygmy, or Leprechaun in the painting that his holding the magical mirror of Prester John that allowed him to see all the events in the world. Prester John was also the Emperor of India and the King of the Tartars (Tartarians), etc. One of my favorite titles that Prester had was the Green man and the Green Knight, since there is an enchanted Green Swamp near his magical kingdom in Walt Disney World Florida: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/marrakesh-was-orlando/.
Prester John, aka, King David El (the Biblical line of King David) is also associated with the Fountain of Youth that he established in his kingdom in Ethiopia that he bragged about drinking from six times in his famous letter from the year 1165 that went to every ruler in the world, so Prester John correlates with the Timucuan Indians long life span, since Prester John was also known as the immortal priest King since he lived to be over 560 years old; however, some sources say he lived to be over 1200 years old since he had contact with before Christ era Kings like Xerxes and Alexander the Great, who were mere pawns to this powerful Magi King.
Other titles of Prester John: John the Baptish of Bible (Fountain of Youth), Melchizedek (Thoth), Prophet Elijah, Enoch (Thoth), the Fisher King, King of Kings, the Negus (Pharoah), Angel Gabriel (Thoth), Lord Shiva, Enki, Lord of the Rings, Lord of the seen and unseen worlds, King Merovech (founder of the Merovingian Dynasty), the dragon king, the dragon Emperor, the Grand Khan, the Khan father, the Highlander, the King of the Scots, King of the Orient, Grand Master of the Knights Templars, the Knight of the Serpent, the King Knight, the giant slayer, and etc.
The Spanish conquerors described the Timucuan people as Pictish (Picts) in appearance. We know that the ancient Picts of Scotland and Ireland were Swarthy (Black) people from the Iberian Peninsula, according to Romain Historian Pliny.
You can also see post images of the Timucuan people and as you can see, they were swarthy Maurs/ Muurs (Moors) from the land of the Maurs, Tameri or Ethiopia Superior (Abyssinia) in La Floridas. The Timucuan Indians in the images are mostly wearing turbans, which is a Hebrew and Moorish tradition or custom. Dr. Longo whitewashed the Timucuan Indians and other Indian tribes in his video, so please avoid the hijack when viewing it.
But what if La Florida was the original Iberian Peninsula? My blog post, “Gibraltar of the West,” demonstrates that Florida was the original Iberian Peninsula, home of the Garden of Eden, home of the Fountain of Youth, home of the Garden of Hesperides, and the Original Barbery Coast: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/gibraltar-of-the-west/.
The Timucuan Indians were the Ethiopians and the Assyrians of Florida:
“The Timucua were a Native American people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida and southeast Georgia. They were the largest indigenous group in that area and consisted of about 35 chiefdoms, many leading thousands of people. The various groups of Timucua spoke several dialects of the Timucua language. At the time of European contact, Timucuan speakers occupied about 19,200 square miles (50,000 km2) in the present-day states of Florida and Georgia, with an estimated population of 200,000. Milanich notes that the population density calculated from those figures, 10.4 per square mile (4.0/km2) is close to the population densities calculated by other authors for the Bahamas and for Hispaniola at the time of first European contact.[1][2] The territory occupied by Timucua speakers stretched from the Altamaha River and Cumberland Island in present-day Georgia as far south as Lake George in central Florida, and from the Atlantic Ocean west to the Aucilla River in the Florida Panhandle, though it reached the Gulf of Mexico at no more than a couple of points.
The name “Timucua” (recorded by the French as Thimogona but this is likely a misprint for Thimogoua) came from the exonym used by the Saturiwa (of what is now Jacksonville) to refer to the Utina, another group to the west of the St. Johns River. The Spanish came to use the term more broadly for other peoples in the area.[3] Eventually it became the common term for all peoples who spoke what is known as Timucuan.
While alliances and confederacies arose between the chiefdoms from time to time, the Timucua were never organized into a single political unit.[2] The various groups of Timucua speakers practiced several different cultural traditions.[4] The people suffered severely from the introduction of Eurasian infectious diseases. By 1595, their population was estimated to have been reduced from 200,000 to 50,000 and thirteen chiefdoms remained. By 1700, the population of the tribe had been reduced to an estimated 1,000 due to slave raids from Carolinian settlers and their Indian allies. The local slave trade completed their extinction as a tribe soon after the turn of the 18th century.” [end quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timucua].
The fact that the Timucuan Indians experienced the Slave trade is further evidence that the Timucuan Indians were Negroes or Black people, since they were able to blend in with the dark slaves that were allegedly brought from Africa.
Based upon the above evidence, the Timucuan Indians were also the Tamerikhans (Ethiopians and Assyrians) and their Emperor was Prester John, aka, John the Baptist, since the Timucuan Territory is in his magical kingdom of Ethiopia Superior (Abyssinia).
Please donate to my Cashapp at $Amunhotep7 since your donations help with travel and research. I thank you for your time and support and enjoy. Peace.

Florida, Hurricanes, and Barrier Islands
Parts of my family have been in Florida since the early 1800s, so that makes me as much of a native as any non-Native American can be. So let me explain how Florida works.
You can't just get to the beach by driving east or west in a straight line until the land gives way to sandy coastline. The beaches are normally on long, skinny barrier islands that run parallel to the mainland. Barrier islands are essentially just piled-up sand—giant sandbars. I grew up in St. Augustine, Florida, and the beach closest to where I lived was called Vilano Beach. The barrier island it's on is so narrow you could walk from one side to the other in maybe ten to fifteen minutes at its widest point. If it ever takes a direct hit from a hurricane of any strength, the island would disappear under the waters of the storm surge. The aftermath would look a lot like what we're seeing in southwest Florida after Hurricane Ian: neighborhoods full of houses wiped right off their slabs or reduced to uninhabitable shells, leaving no option but to bulldoze everything and rebuild.
But should there be any rebuilding? When you're a kid in St. Augustine, you take school field trips to all the historic sites. One of the biggest ones is the Fountain of Youth, a park that encompasses the area where the Spanish first landed in North America and made contact with the natives. It's not on a barrier island, it's on the mainland. The Native Americans didn't live on the barrier islands, because they were not stupid. They understood that living on one of those islands was a good way to get washed out to sea the next time a storm hit.
Construction methods and materials have come a long way in 500 years, but we still don't have anything that can take a direct hit from a major hurricane. Nature is just too powerful; sometimes all you can do is just get out of its way.
Of course, there's not just hurricanes to consider. Thanks to rising sea levels brought on by climate change, the barrier islands will be gone within a century anyway. Why rebuild on land that's doomed to disappear?

Celebrating 75 years of Weeki Wachee includes Unveiling Destination Mermaids The Tail Trail
Tumblr media
‘We’re going to see mermaids,” I told our girls as we headed north on Highway 19.‘Mermaids aren’t real,’ our eldest scoffed.‘Yes, they are,’ I countered. Her eyes narrowed. ‘Then how come I haven’t seen one?’‘That’s because they only live in one place…’ Weeki Wachee Mermaid Shows began in 1947 Long before Walt Disney cleared a swamp in Orlando, Florida’s original underwater princesses won the hearts of Floridians and beyond. In 1947, diver and entrepreneur Newton Perry and his bevy of beautiful swimmers welcomed visitors into the innovative underwater theater built into the side of a spring at Weeki Wachee on Florida’s Nature Coast. After all the alligator attractions and a sip from the sulfur water at the Fountain of Youth, a pack of pretty girls in swimsuits performing aquatic stunts and ballet underwater became a popular draw for years to come. Weeki-Wachee-Mermaids in training with Newt Perry Weeki Wachee Spring Florida. 1948. State Archives of Florida-Florida Memory. Destination Mermaids: The Trail Tail Project Now, Weeki Wachee is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this October with a mermaid reunion and the unveiling of 26 individually decorated mermaid statues at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. The juried artists who designed and hand-painted each statue will be on hand at the unveiling to meet and greet the public. The 80-lb, 6-foot decorated statues will remain in the park for viewing through the celebration weekend before being transported to their permanent homes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkYHigU75Bk&t=116s&ab_channel=FloridasAdventureCoastBrooksville-WeekiWachee Ocala has its horse statues, Lakeland has swans and Crystal River has manatees, The idea for decorating mermaid statues seemed like an obvious choice for Florida’s Adventure Coast- home to the iconic Weeki Wachee mermaids, and a perfect way to showcase the artistic talents of the area. “Mermaids are the beautiful and iconic symbol of our County,” said John Athanason, Tourism Marketing Specialist with Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitor’s Bureau. He and Tammy Heon, Tourism Manager, discussed the mermaid statue idea for years - a trail of art to lead visitors to places throughout Hernando County that they might not normally visit. 2022 is the year to make it happen! Image by Diane Bedard. To create the statue, a face casting of Kristy Lowman, one of Weeki Wachee’s mermaids was made. This was added to a custom statue crafted for Florida’s Adventure Coast. Learn more about it here. Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitor Bureau worked with Brooksville Main Street and the Hernando County Fine Arts Council to bring together the mermaid project, pairing local artists with sponsors. A call to artists went out and 100 applications were submitted. The choice was narrowed down to under half by a panel of judges. Sponsors of the project were given a collection of designs to choose from before their chosen artist began their 5-week creations. The 26 life-sized mermaid statutes will be ready for the grand unveiling October 13, 2022. Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitor’s Bureau visited the artists during their work. There are a lot of great videos here. Once in their permanent homes, a plaque will name the sponsor and the artist of each mermaid. The Original Mermaid Trail Florida's Mermaid Trail is a great outdoor activity for families and more. Image by Diane Bedard. The Florida Mermaid Trail leads visitors through the small-town charm of downtown Brooksville on 27-stops. Each little mermaid adds a new level of discovery to a local gem or business that may normally be off the radar. You can read more about it here. The original Florida Mermaid Trail will remain, and the Destination Mermaids The Tail Trail will follow the same concept on a wider scale, casting a net across Hernando County. Maps of the Tail Trail will be available when the mermaids are set in their permanent homes. Visitors will be able to download the new maps from the Florida Adventure Coast website or pick up a copy at the Visitors Center, 205 E. Fort Dade Avenue, in Brooksville. The Adagio Mermaid Statue at Week Wachee will be dedicated as a National Historic Landmark The Weeki Wachee State Park Mermaid Statue Unveiling event will be open to the public after a private ceremony. A plaque at the recently renovated Adagio Fountain at the front of the park will be revealed, recognizing the Adagio mermaid statue, built in 1966, as a National Historic Landmark. The iconic Adagio pose featured in almost every show, was created by original mermaids Dianne Wyatt McDonald and Mary Dwight. The Adagio mermaid statue will be honored as a National Historic Landmark at Weeki Wachee State Park's 75th Anniversary celebration. Image by Sally White. Dianne was a high school senior back in 1947 and a member of the St. Petersburg Aquabelles, an 8-person synchronized swim team. Newton Perry heard about Aquabelles and watched them perform. Afterwards, he asked if they would be able to do their synchronized swimming under the water. The Aquabelles practiced their breathing and choreographed an underwater show for the former Navy diver. He was impressed and the rest is history. Dianne and the other swimmers’ performances in that time were without the use of masks or air hoses. They held their breaths while performing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6rHZPBn5Lg&list=PLfn4k5kCVNyJ4A8khEkjLxTrkrNMifXvS&index=2&ab_channel=FloridasAdventureCoastBrooksville-WeekiWachee Some Weeki Wachee mermaids could hold their breath for up to 4-minutes underwater. It took a lot of practice and talent to reach that feat. Like other mermaids, Dianne carries warm memories of her time at Weeki Wachee. Mermaid Dianne, now 92, will be attending the Adagio mermaid statue dedication ceremony and reunion event during the 75th Anniversary celebrations at the park. Once a Mermaid, always a Mermaid: Mermaid History At 82-years young, mermaid Vickie Smith is the oldest performing Weeki Wachee mermaid. She will be part of a special show at the mermaid reunion.  She and other former mermaids from the 50s, 60s and 70s make up the Legendary Sirens. They reunited during the 50th anniversary mermaid reunion and returned to their beloved spring, calling themselves the Legendary Sirens. This will be their first performance since Covid. “When you get underwater, you’re 17 again. You never forget the mystery and magic of the spring,” Vicki said in her Mermaid Memories interview on Florida’s Adventure Coast YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnL9OMviUVk&list=PLfn4k5kCVNyJ4A8khEkjLxTrkrNMifXvS&ab_channel=FloridasAdventureCoastBrooksville-WeekiWachee Vicki performed at Weeki Wachee from 1957 to 1961, straight out of high school. Every girl wanted to be a mermaid. Back then the swimmers wore white face masks, white fins, and bathing suits. “There were no try-outs, no tests…they gave you an air hose and kicked you in the water,” she says. The mermaids then performed underwater ballet and stunts like eating a banana underwater and drinking Grapette soda. The cola they originally drank made the girls bloated, so they had to switch to a less carbonated drink. Weeki Wachee Mermaids group from the State Archives of Florida by Lagerberg. ABC brings the Glam to the Mermaids The American Broadcasting Company took over from Newt Perry in 1959. ABC brought a Hollywood glamor to the mermaids, introducing costumes, props, and storylines to their show. They also piped in music. For the first time ever, the swimmers were able to hear the music and time their routines to the songs. Vicki was one of the mermaids who performed for Elvis during his 1961 visit. The King took time off during his filming for Follow That Dream in Yankeetown & Inverness, to stop and see his fans, promote his new album, and meet the mermaids of Weeki Wachee. Weeki Wachee mermaids are a close knit family, like a sisterhood, bound by the magic of the springs. Image by Sally White. Every decade of mermaids has their own tail tales and trials, from performing against the 111 million gallons of fresh water pumping from the springs below, shows being halted by visiting gators, to friendly manatees and show-stealing turtles. Weeki Wachee Springs becomes a Florida State Park Weeki Wachee Springs became a Florida state park on November 1, 2008, and today a mermaid applicant must go through rigorous training, becoming certified in SCUBA & CPR. They even undergo a final Mermaid Test before they are welcomed into the magic of the springs as a Weeki Wachee Mermaid. You can read more here. Spoilers: NatureCoaster & Mermaid Nico “We wanted to be a part of such a wonderful addition to the Nature Coast by sponsoring a mermaid on the new Tail Trail,” Diane said, “This idea will help visitors and residents explore the best of our area in a fun way. We chose mermaid Nico because we loved the music interaction with the undersea theme. It is whimsical and colorful!” Drawn by the colorful design, Diane Bedard of NatureCoaster sponsored Jesse Kasabian and his Mermaid Nico. She’s a singer in her band, Nico and the Velvet Underwater. Jesse drew his inspiration from The Velvet Underground and the Andy-Warhol, pop-art era. He created Nico sharing her pedestal with the sea creatures of her band, Peter Turtle on keys, Sassy Seahorse on saxophone with her sister on trumpet & Jessie Dolphin on the drums. You can watch Jesse’s interview about the creative process for Nico the Mermaid here. Mermaid Nico’s message to the world can resonate with all mermaids, in water and in heart: “Work hard at your craft. Success comes after working hard. Stay positive. Keep at it and people will notice.” Come Out and Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Weeki Wachee Springs and the unveiling of Destination Mermaids: The Tail Trail October 13-16 After the unveiling at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, each of the new mermaids of the Tail Trail will go to their permanent homes throughout Hernando County. Mermaid Nico will reside at Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill. We are so excited! Read the full article

The Yule Man (1/7)
As told by ME
Tumblr media
This was meant to be a short story, but it became too big, so I separated it in seven parts. I want to turn my blog in a space where I can share my writting every once and a while.
This is the first time I post one of my stories on a public space. This is the first time anyone besides my sister will be able to read, so I'm pretty exciting and anxious. I want honest criticism. I hope you all enjoy it.
"It's he who brings the Yule ice and snow to Arnsberg." The little girl said.
Everything seemed somehow brighter and warmer on that peaceful afternoon.
The lines of holly hanged above the walls and windows gave an otherworld feel to the street. The jingle of the bells of the market down the avenue helped to remind how happiness sounded like. Silver bells adorned the rooftops. The traditional statues of silver stood on the churches’ terrains.
They promised that the Silver God would once again bless his holy season. The store windows promised an affable and cozy night. That was not what that beggar boy received.
The confectionery attendant shoved him away with all scorn and disdain possible in a man. Why did he should show him kindness? The boy couldn't pay, and he was so filthy dressed he would drive customers away. And as he said beneath his breath while coming back to the store:
"Magic only brings trouble."
Mia Hayek and her baby sister were stepping in their carriage when they saw the scene. The poor young man looked at the sweets in the windows of the confectionery with so much craving. He looked as if he hadn't eaten anything in a long time.
She took out her long wide hat and her cotton scarf and asked her sister if she knew that boy. The little girl, with all sincerity that a child is capable off, responded.
He had a slender and thin body, but the enormous, hooded fur coat worn swallowed it completely. He carried a huge bag of shabby cloth against his back. The fur hood and the cloth around his lower face made it hard to give him an age. Mia was sure he couldn't be older than twenty.
Everyone in Arnsberg knew the boy. Always seen wandering without destination in the Solstice Eve carrying that stained bag. He arrives in town no sooner than the first snow. He stays for the twelve days of the Yule Festival, then he disappears. And no one can find him before the next one.
Mia saw him in the last year. He lived near the park in front of the bakery. The baker shoved him away as if he was a stray dog. He has not changed a thing from then.
"He never changes." Sophia mindlessly added. "Even mother remembers him from her time. He never changes."
Mia stared at the boy. Ragged and disheveled. Time had devoured those clothes, tattered and grimy as they looked.
"Is he magical?" Mia asked.
"Yeah!" Her little sister nodded. "But he can only bring the snow, he can't control it. He's harmless."
"Stay here!" She told her.
Mia stepped out of the carriage and walked in the direction of the boy as fast as her boots allowed. Noticing being followed, he turned. She stopped in the spot.
The hood obscured his face. He maintained his back bended, and he avoided looking into her eyes. By the way he stayed quiet, she knew he was nervous. People dressed like her usually didn't had nice things to say to people dressed like him.
"You're beautiful!" He whispered to himself, hoping only he listened.
She smiled back.
"Thank you!"
She heard and he could only blush in response.
"Sorry, but I always see you around here during this time." She began saying while messing with her curly hair. "The town can get pretty cold. Do you have where to pass the night."
The boy chuckled, and she could see a vague spark in his eyes.
"The cold never bothered me anyway, madam."
"What do you carry with you?" She came forward and touched his long bag. It felt so freezing that she immediately withdrew as by sheer impulse.
He lowered the cloth that covered his face and looked up to her, allowing Mia to take a deep look.
"I... I should already release this thing, but... I got distracted. I wanted to find something to eat first, so..." He sounded so nervous, trying so hard to justify himself, as if fearing punishment.
His face was pale and soft, still with signs of boyhood. His eyes were big and innocent, in bright green. His beard was as red as a fox, and it was shaggy and full of pieces of ice.
"...and now I don't know where to release this stuff."
"Do you have where to spend the holidays?" She interrupted him.
"No." He answered embarrassed.
The question really pierced through him. She saw how it affected him in the wrong way. A second question slipped through her mouth before she could have time to re-evaluate it.
"Do you found somewhere to eat?"
He didn't respond.
She drew his hands, letting his bag land on the ground. It surprised her how soft and warm they were.
"Stay the Yule with us."
Mia could just have brought him food and then forget anything about him in the next day. Any normal person would do that. Maybe she felt a genuine urge to help him. Maybe her pity for him spoke louder. Perhaps she found him too adorable to let go. Whatever the real reason may be, something drew her to him.
"My father is wealthy, but generous. I'm sure he'll allowed it."
He smiled to her by a second, as if he loved the idea, but then he frowned, as if he remembered something.
"I'm sorry. You have been very kind, but I can't."
"Please!" She insisted, her voice cracking a little. "You can't spend the Yule in the streets and in the cold."
""I already used to it."
He forced a sly grin, as if trying to tranquilize her. He continued. "I'm sure you mean well, but it's better that I stay here."
"Our mansion is always open to those who need it, and you'll be well treated there."
"A mansion?" He frowned.
"My father is Mr. Hayek. My name is Mia Angela Hayek. Ravi de vous rencontrer." She greeted him with the dress.
"Never heard of him." He joked.
"Please, stay with us. We...
"Is it comfy..."
"What?" She asked surprised.
He spoke in a tone that made her think of a timid small boy.
"Your mansion. Is it comfy and cozy? That's how I always picture these places to be." He didn't want her to see he smiled.
"Of course." She nodded.
"Does it have a fireplace?"
"Yes. You can drink hot cocoa by it and eat some gingerbread cookies if you want."
"I never eat a gingerbread cookie."
"You can eat all sweets you wish. The kitchen has smelled wonderful since morning. My father is giving a big ball tonight. It will be so full of cakes and sweets. It will make even the most illustrious confectioneries envious."
Mia saw how much the idea pleased him, how much it tempted him to say yes. Yet, something held him back.
Against his better judgment, he said:
"Okay."
The air grew colder on that moment. The winter breeze brought chills down her spine. Whatever it was, the boy felt it too.
"But just for one night." He soon added.
"What's your name?"
"I don't have one." He said while pulling back his bag.
She tilted her head.
"How come you have no name?"
"Never needed one."
James Hayek had all the reasons to be jolly during the holidays. This son of immigrants became the most important merchant in all the North Kingdom. The Hayeks were the wealthiest mixed family in Arnsberg. This filled him with pride, but also a deep sentiment of duty. As a child of Arnsberg by heart he felt as his duty to retribute all his good luck back to the community.
The Hayek Mansion was a charming building located near the road down to Arnsberg, far close to the forest. Mr. Hayek certified himself that its doors would be forever open to the town that welcomed him.
It was the Solstice Eve. Tomorrow the Yule Festival would begin, twelve days of tradition and merriment. A gigantic fir-tree of nine meters was brought to the mansion's courtyard. The servants of the Hayek family surrounded its needles with all sorts of ornaments. They garnished the Yule Tree with silver, gold, and all kinds of jewelry. On its top, the Solstice Sun ornament promised to shine brighter than the real one. Not even Queen Ava's tree in the Royal Palace was as beautiful as the one who stood now in the Hayek Mansion.
Tumblr media
Dozens of statues of goats surrounded the tree, all carefully made of pure straw. A somewhat forgotten tradition that Mr. Hayek couldn't let go in any capacity.
Tumblr media
Two full tables had been already set. Roast turkeys and ducks, steamed hams and caramelized cods covered the first table.
The second table looked like a small child's fever dream. Colorful palaces of gelatin and chocolate sprinkled with sugar. Snowy towns and castles of gingerbread covered with white marzipan. Fountains and rivers flowing with chocolate. Towers of cakes and pies. Mountain chains of pudding with nuts and chestnuts boulders. It had enough to maddening the youth.
When Mia and Sophia arrived at the Hayek residence, the Yule Log had been already tossed into the fire. Both her and her sister helped the fur-cladded boy stepped out of the carriage. No sooner they crossed the golden gates, the servants already whispered between themselves. They couldn't help but gaze at the peculiar young man with awe and curiosity.
As soon as the girls walked upon the carpet in the living room, their parents rushed to speak to them. When Mr. Hayek first heard the news, he had to come to see it by himself.
"You brought the Yule Man?" He gave a strong laughter that came straight from the bottom of his belly.
The boy didn't know how to react, so he stepped behind the sisters and gave him an awkward smile.
Mr. Hayek was a cheerful and youthful old man. Mrs. Hayek could be the proudest woman the world has ever seen. She fitted the role of the women who dressed to show the world her social status. Her blue eyes had troubles showing affection. Her corn-like hair was stylized in the same way as the fashion magazines. Meticulously armed.
She approached Mia to talk in particular.
"You should be getting dressed." She spoke with veiled bitterness.
Mia tried her best to argue back.
"Sorry mother, I was doing shopping when..."
Her mother definitely didn't want to know. She twisted her eyebrows and said:
"Why are you so irresponsible. I'm tired of sorries. And what are you wearing for the gods' sake" She started yelling.
Mia swallowed her mother's sermons with her best poker face. Since she was a child, she knew how harsh Mrs. Hayek's criticism could be. Nothing different from the woman that searched for defects in everything.
"You know how this night is important. It's your first ball. My daughter shouldn't look like a hag." She took a pause to breath. "Go get dressed!"
Sophia came forward.
"Can the Yule Man spend the Yule with us?" She asked with manipulative eyes.
"You can't bring him here." She whispered while offering a false smile to greet the newcomer boy.
Fritz and Thomas, Sophia's elder brothers, looked at him with intense curiosity.
"Magic always leads to trouble." She put.
"Mother, he needs us." Mia shot back. "Besides not aging, there's not that much he can do. He is harmless."
"Mia, can you stop arguing..." Her mother tried to shut her down as she always did.
Mia had other plans.
"Father..." She turned to Mr. Hayek. "This is the true Yule Man. You can show him to the town's children tonight.
"I like children." His tiny voiced ricocheted off the living room walls. They turned to face him.
"They are nice to me." He said in a small tone behind them.
They almost had forgot he was still there.
"My dear, I don't know..." Mr. Hayek gazed at his unhappy wife.
"Remember when you were young and poor, and they chased you off that department store." She pointed to the boy. “They shoved him out of the confectionery as if he were nothing. He doesn't have where to spend the Yule days. He never had."
Mr. Hayek grew quiet. Not everyone had been nice to him. The way he looked had closed a lot of doors before. He promised to never take part in any judgment by appearances.
"You win." He winked at her. "Okay. Welcome to our Yule party Mr. Yule Man.
The boy looked at Mrs. Hayek. He saw her eyes steaming.
The guest started appearing around the evening. The parties in the Hayek Mansion always yielded weeks of conversation and gossip. They were more accessible than official public events. Open to everyone who wanted to participate. Thanks to that Mr. Hayek received the charming nickname of the "Father of the Poor." from his enemies. He liked it.
In her bedchamber, Mia wore a ballgown that had the color of the winter night sky. A low busted and short sleeved gown that drew attention to her silhouette. It was richly embroidered with snowflake patterns that surrounded her skirt. A delicate bow tied her curly brown hair back, drawing attention to her delicate face. Her strong red lipstick contrasted quite well with her light-brown skin tone.
When she went down the staircase. She gasped at how beautiful her house looked. Decks of holly, ivy and winter roses scattered everywhere. When the Yule Man saw her, he gasped at how beautiful she looked. He raced to her, still with his bag.
Tumblr media
"Why are you still wearing this thing?" She pressed her lips together. She sounded just as her mother.
"Sorry If I was too rude. Do you like it?"
"No. No. I don't like this thing at all." He chuckled while eating a huge piece of marzipan with his free hand.
"So, why do you wear it?"
"As if I had a choice." He smirked.
He had finished his attack on the table of sweets. His mouth still was stained with sugar and chocolate. She noticed he had pockets in his suit, because they were full of gingerbread cookies and pieces of cake. The corners of her mouth lifted a smile as soon as she realized it.
When they arrived at the courtyard, the guests already crowded the place. The music had begun. The youthful couples already waltzed together amid the chatter of their families. That scene never failed to fill Mia's eyes, and now she could be officially a part of it. Her first ball as a woman.
She saw her mother approaching.
"What are you wearing." She yelled in her lowest tone.
Mia stood in her defensive position.
"Mother, you promised I could pick my own dress."
Mrs. Hayek exhaled.
"Yeah, I did. You look beautiful."
Mia smiled in relief.
"You too mother."
"You look perfect, and it's Yule, but don't exaggerate on the food." She laughed. "You know how the woman in our family have problems with weight."
Mia forced a yellow smile as a good daughter. As soon as her mother departed, the boy tried to cheer her.
"That was close. You survived the attack of the amazing shrew. Good job."
Mia laughed out loud. He felt proud with himself.
The children on the place couldn't stop looking at him with amazement. She turned to him.
"You don't really have a name?"
His smile disappeared.
"No."
He tried to physically walk out of that social interaction. She followed him.
"Do you at least have parents or relatives?"
He spent a couple seconds thinking.
"I don't know. I believe that I don't."
"Where you go when you aren't in Arnsberg? Do you visit other cities?"
"I prefer not to think about that." He said as politely as he could.
"Can I ask about the bag?" She joked.
He handled the bag over to the other hand.
"Nope!"
He really didn't like the direction of that conversation.
"Can I least ask you about the beard? Do you like it?"
He stopped. He looked at her.
"Not even a little." He laughed. "It's shaggy, it scratches, and it annoys me so much."
"Why you don't shave it?"
"As if I had a choice."
That was getting on her nerves.
"Why wouldn't you have a choice?"
He looked deep into her eyes.
"Because only real people have a choice."
On that same moment, a man wearing a red fur cloak and carrying a sack full of toys and stepped out of the servant’s door. The children gasped and cheered his presence and rushed in his direction. The adults were left amazed. Santa Claus had arrived. By his side, a very tall man came closer, wearing a wooden goat mask and wearing a very thick coat. On his hand he carried birch branches. The children surrounded them in seconds. The Goat-masked man asked in his spookiest voice if they had been nice or naughty that year. Santa had already start delivering the presents to all the children.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mia nudged him.
"It's my father. He lives by the Yule Festival." She boasted. "He loves to dress like Santa. He's the only black St. Nick in the town."
"I find funny how you always seem to agree that he's an old fat man in red."
He left her confused.
"Excuse me."
"St. Nicholas is way younger than that. And he drinks." He chuckled. "A lot."
She tilted her head and frowned.
"How can you tell? No one can see him."
He stayed quiet.
"Do you know the real Santa?"
He broke the silence.
"He's a good man. He's nice to me. The Yule Goat is bad. He's very bad. He beats children."
He nodded to the goat masked man. Mia saw that it unsettled him a bit.
"Calm down. It's just Edgar, our butler. He likes to scare kids, so every year he dresses like the Yule Goat."
All the kids after receiving their presents ran to his side. Mr. Hayek as the jolly saint came closer to Mia at said in direction of the young man:
"This man..." He certified himself to be heard by everyone. "...is the Yule Man. Today he will show us the magic of the Yuletide season."
The crowd turned and stared at him in intensity. The typical hypocrisy of mortals: They fear magic but can't lose a chance to see it close. The boy himself stayed quiet as a mouse in his spot.
Mia asked in his ear:
"Crowds make you nervous"
"Yep" He almost couldn't be heard.
"I realized."
He walked to the center of the courtyard without saying no more words. Near the fir-tree he tossed his bag on the ground. Mia attended all that closely.
He pulled the knot that tighten the bag closed and opened it. A single snowflake came out first. It flew like a white butterfly in the direction of the wind. Calm, gentle, beautiful. It shimmered like nothing else. Some of the children ran after it and tried to catch. A second came out, and third, and a fourth. The snowflakes then burst out of the bag, billions of them. Small bright crystals that looked more like pixie dust.
He opened his arms and allowed the endless wave of light blast off and fill the skies. The crowd clapped and cheered in a mad frenzy. Mr. Hayek couldn't believe his eyes.
Mia stood there, speechless. The sight took all her ability to think properly.
The Yule Man closed his eyes. He shook both hands together as quick as he could. The bright outburst ceased. The bag dissolved in icicles. As if the world's largest swarm, they dashed up, up into the sky, while the snow started to fall.
He turned back to them.
"And this...This is how the Yule snow comes to Arnsberg."
The crowd clapped in pure ecstasy. He exhaled relieved.
The kids chased him. The adults had troubles understanding what happened. Mia stayed quiet in her thoughts processing everything.
The north wind blew over them all. The boy felt the message sent to him down to his bones. A dark figure appeared in the corner. He knew there were consequences to be dealt with.
Mia searched for him when he appeared and shook her hand.
"I'm grateful for everything..." He started. "... but St. Nicholas saw me. I already violated too many rules."
And he ran away.
"What!"
She stayed behind, left speechless again.
Mia marched to her parents close to the mansion's entrance.
"Father, what did you said to him?"
She took Mr. Hayek by surprise.
"Nothing, I..."
Sophia stopped playing with the other girls and their new toys and walked to them.
"It was not him. It was the real Santa.
"Hey!" His heart broke. He said visibly offended. "How long do you know I am not..."
Mia interrupted him.
"Sophia, why are you talking about?"
"St. Nicholas came here to talk to him."
"How I didn't see him?"
She responded with such innocence that terrified Mia.
"He's invisible to you."
Mia rushed back inside and searched for him everywhere. She found him when he was getting nearer the front gate.
"Why did you leave?" She approached him behind pulled him by the arm. You said you would spend the night here."
"I can't. I simply can't. St. Nicholas talked to me...
"Santa? Santa threatened you?"
"No. St. Nicholas is nice to me." He argued. "Only a few like him are. The North Wind brought him here. He told him how I was breaking the rules. Different from him, I can be seen by mortals. He thinks it's not wise for me to get too close to them, to you."
He paused as soon as he realized how that sentence could be interpreted.
"To you guys, the mortals, your family." The awkwardness possessed his body.
Her forehead furrowed while pressing her lips together.
"What are the rules?"
He scratched his head and lowered it down.
"I arrive to Arnsberg by the first light of the Solstice Eve. I must leave before the first light after the Yule days are over."
Her expression lightened.
"So, you can spend the festival with us."
"Do you even listen to me?" He cried out loud.
She placed her hands over his shoulder.
"Listen, you will not violate any rules. As long as you left..." She gesticulated for him to continue it.
"Before the first light after the Yule days are over." He added.
"I know you liked here. So, what do you say.”?
"Mia, I can't."
She raised her voice.
"So, they want you to spend the holidays in the street?"
"I don't have a choice." His jaw clenched and he shut his eyes.
She drew him closer.
"Yeah, you do."
That simple phrase teared down his walls. He no longer felt the ground under his feet. His eyes teared up.
"Do you really believe that." He said in a cry voice.
She struggled to look him in the eyes now.
"I do." She smiled to him.
He closed his eyes.
"Okay, I will spend the Yule Festival with you."
He heard the wind blowing outside. A very bad omen indeed. For some Mia sensed butterflies on her stomach. She felt a sweet taste in her mouth. Something sweet and warm inside her chest.
"Okay, I will ask Edgar to lead you to the Guest room."
He shook his head.
"It isn't necessary. I hate giving people trouble. I can sleep anywhere."
She raised her eyebrows.
"But you need a name. Can I call you Christopher? I always found a beautiful name."
"Yeah, you can." His eyes twinkled while the corners of his mouth quickly turned up.
She stepped closer.
"Happy Yuletide, Chris!"
