Okay, another round for me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you all remember my post earlier about Noriko having a black mark on her neck?
This sparks my wild ideas and letting me think myself: Minus Godzilla will surely find her because of the mark. Let alone forcing her to become a bride of his and exacting a revenge on Koichi so...
Noriko will have certain side effects due to Godzilla's strong radiation inside of her, that's my another idea.
Aaaaannnnddd, Noriko will share a bond with him so, she's forever belongs to him!
You are all free to reblog and comment down on this posts!!! And also your ideas too.

Kojuhisa moment
Tumblr media
Idk what i was thinking of earlier lmao.
I was originally just taking pictures of Oichi and some ideas popped up.
And here Matsunaga is being a big old simp for Kojuro lmao
Even in my headcanon, Matsunaga is only causing trouble for the Date not for Masamune's swords but rather he's more into the hot guy in the Date. So yes, Matsunaga in my headcanon and to me is a big old simp. That's his motivation lmao.

headcanon; I cannot believe myself for not having this written as a headcanon. I'm pretty sure me and Kris had at least started a thread with it a long time ago, but man. So anyway, now that I've referenced it half a dozen times: let's talk about Ignis.
So, to preface: the reason Ignis invaded Aurora to begin with was, basically, they were kind of desperate. Living in a literal active volcano (who the fuck thought that was a good idea, actually?), they've been struggling with food shortages. Aurora did have an alliance with them, and trade agreements and what have you, as the Most Major producer of their food, but Aurora and Ignis were also not exactly, like, friends. Their alliance was out of begrudging necessity at best and following the invasion on Aurora when Hiroko was a child, even Aurora was struggling to keep up production enough to fill both Ignis' needs and their own. Part of that agreement was that Hiroko's elder cousin was married to Hideyoshi because, you know, political marriages.
And then Osamu died! Suddenly the warlord is a fucking 17 year old little girl and, like........ come on. Alliance schmiance. It's basically the perfect opportunity, considering Aurora is both deeply under-manned and instead of their notoriously strategic former warlord, who fended off an invasion from a SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful kingdom, it was a totally untested kid, basically. There was no way Hideyoshi could lose, right?
The initial attack on Aurora was sort of botched due to various factors (I believe what we agreed was that it was intended to be an ambush of sorts, and because Aurora had such a small, and I mean SMALL army at the time, literally just over twenty or so gd men, as long as the Warlord could be defeated, it would be easy! Right?), at least partially thanks to Hiroko discovering Oichi and her helping to spot the coming attack. So, yeah, bad scene, but Aurora managed to walk away from it.
Needless to say? Hiroko was FUCKING. PISSED. Hiroko basically had to decide how to respond, quickly. She did not have the manpower to face Ignis directly in retaliation, so she attempted negotiation. And given the terms were more or less Peacefully Surrender or we don't really have a choice, Hiroko was MORE pissed and said, you know what?
Fine. We surrender. Aurora's soldiers will serve in Ignis, since you're suddenly interested in conquering Ransei. I'll have them report here and once I speak with the rest of my kingdom we can Formally Surrender with all the fucking pomp and circumstance you expect and work out the Exact Terms of how Aurora is going to function as a vassal state to Ignis.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Hiroko ambushed Ignis. With her soldiers now reporting to Ignis and Hiroko coming to "formally" surrender alongside her retainers, she instead ambushed Hideyoshi and had her own men infiltrate the castle. (I like to imagine she found a way to bring along her father's firearm and used it in that battle because that's how fucking pissed she was. She was ready to shoot this man or literally die trying.) Long story short, Hiroko was able to basically force Hideyoshi to surrender by cutting off the castle from any sort of help (though not without a few hiccups, which resulted in Taiki's face getting fucked up real bad). Hideyoshi was exiled from Ignis (in retrospect maybe creating more problems in the long run, but Hiroko wasn't exactly keen on the implications that Outright Killing another warlord would likely have for Aurora) and Hiroko took over as Warlord of both kingdoms. Though Ignis was, uh, definitely questionable for a bit after that, she was able to cement her rule by instating new trade policies, an open border between Ignis and Aurora, and basically incentivizing some Ignid citizens to take over some of the land that had gone unused since the Dragnor invasion many years prior in order to increase the overall food production in order to provide for both kingdoms. (This solution would persist as an agreement between Aurora and Ignis following the war and, like, you'd think it would be the easiest and first solution but Ransei is full of motherfuckers with more pride than brains sometimes.)
tl;dr Hiroko kicked off her conquest of Ransei by saying a major fuck you to Hideyoshi in particular.

i said i was gonna do an ask game for oichi and motochika today, and i am delivering
polycule selfship asks (not answering all of them bc there were a lot and i have to go to bed 😅)
pink dawn: was your ship always a polycule? if it wasn’t, why did you decide to add in another character? when did you decide it was time to add in another character?
Ooc answer: it’s a polycule bc how could anyone expect me to choose between them? I love them both so much and while those feelings might have laid dormant for like a decade, the minute I saw them again they came rushing back
quiet dusk: what time does everyone go to bed? does everyone get to bed at the same time, or does someone hop into bed earlier than someone else?
If it’s during peacetime, we go to bed more or less at the same time. Otherwise, someone is probably helping take watch or some other task so we just sleep when we can
rainy morning: what’s the order that everyone wakes up, from earliest to latest? feel free to include times too, if you know them!
Usually, I’m the earliest and Oichi is the latest
friendship bracelets: how well do you all typically get along? has it always been like this, or did your f/os have to adjust to each other’s presence?
I had the benefit of knowing them both for years individually, but Motochika and Oichi had to adjust to each other. They only knew of each other by reputation; Oichi as the Demon Queen from being related to Oda, and Motochika as a pirate and the Demon of the Western Sea. They’re also complete opposites in a lot of ways. Motochika is loud and used to taking charge, while Oichi is very soft-spoken and used to being in the background. They become friends eventually, but they’re really awkward around each other for a long time.
pretty personality: do your f/os act differently around you than they do in canon? (ex: they have better morals, or they are more/less talkative) if so, how?
Motochika isn’t too different, just dial the protectiveness up a bit and add a little bit of pda. When we’re alone, he lets himself be more vulnerable than he would normally.
Oichi is more obvious. She’s nowhere near as melancholic and she’s much more talkative.
creativity: what are some headcanons you have for your f/os?
Motochika is a very good engineer. The machinery he uses in game are all his ideas, and he’s very active in the design and building of them.
Oichi writes her own poetry and has a knack for identifying various plants.
ferris wheel: say you all got to go to the carnival/fair one day, how does it go? is there anyone who refuses to ride anything deemed ‘scary’? is there someone who’s a ride fanatic? what about carnival games?
(modern!au) Motochika and I are both ride fanatics. Oichi is more timid. She won’t ride most of the scary rides, but she will go on the slow and gentle ones. I am awful at carnival games and refuse to play them. Motochika is a show off and tries to win the bigger prizes. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he doesn’t. Oichi will play them, but she’s not too great either. (Occasionally, she cheats and uses the shadow hands to win so she can give me the prize). Somehow, Oichi always ends up being the one holding the plushies, regardless of who won it. Don’t bother asking for it back, she’s not letting go.
popcorn: it’s movie night! what do you all watch? is more time spent on deciding on a movie compared to watching said movie? what genre is the movie, and have any of you seen it before? who falls asleep before the movie’s over?
(modern!au) Way more time is spent choosing a movie than watching it 😂 Oichi likes horror movies, Motochika likes action movies, and I like sci-fi so we fight over what to watch. Oichi and I don’t tend to rewatch movies so if we choose then it’s probably something no one has seen before. Motochika will rewatch things so if he chooses there’s a 50/50 chance he’s already seen it. If someone falls asleep, it’s definitely going to be Oichi
muffled summary: explain your polycule badly (like how you’d explain movie plots badly). bonus points for the more insane it sounds.
The demon of your dreams isn’t single, but that’s ok because the pirate of your dreams is. (You still miss the demon tho) Years later, the demon has become a widow and pirate husband encourages you to shoot your shot
rainbow: everyone’s favorite color(s)!
Asgdsjhd if u get something purple you’re safe
Motochika: Purple and Pink
Oichi: Purple and Black
Space: Purple and Green
protection: who’s protecting who? is there one universal protector of the group, or do you all look out for each other?
We all look out for each other (Motochika is the loudest about it)

There’s this one letter saying that Nobu’s hellspawn wasn’t in Kyoto with the intention of going to war. So since he only found out about having to go to Chuugoku to fight the Mouri barely a few days before Honnouji, one opinion post said that his brother was supposed to be joining him in Kyoto bringing reinforcements.
I don’t know where the source for this is. The archive of paper trails didn’t have this part of the story.
Either way, when news of Honnouji hit, the brother brought his army out, but didn’t enter Azuchi and was wary of the other clans potentially siding with Akechi. But then the Akechi apparently was the one who threw Iga into riot so he had to withdraw to deal with that.
But. That doesn’t answer why he didn’t join the Yamazaki campaign. He put down the mess in Iga pretty fast apparently, and by the time Yamazaki happened, the paper trail says he’s already squatting in Owari. But why though?
My Nobuspawn siblings headcanon feels want to say that he went there to evacuate his siblings and also protect Oichi, but I don’t even know.
Also ALSO I dunno if this is my not-clairvoyance acting up again, or if I’d actually read this article before and just completely forgot about it, because I have had the fantasy plot of this guy either about to join his brother in the army, or he just came out alone to visit his brother in Kyoto.
But. Huh. That’s totally an interesting fodder for my shitpost idea.

My Muses and Writing Love Letters !
Katsuie would write a really long love letter, mostly trying to justify his love for you (since his reputation is garbage and he figures most people would be turned off by that) but also kind of begging to be loved in return. It’d be a very earnest letter, but maybe too much so. In addition to his very strong feelings of love (obsession?), his own insecurities and fears would come across quite easily. ^^; So overall, he’d write a very long, emotionally heavy love letter that’ll stay with you long after you read it, but not in a happy way. It’s more like it’d probably make you feel kind of depressed, and maybe even worry for Katsuie. ;u;
I’m not sure Sakon can sit still and focus long enough to write a love letter ? He’s more the type to just blurt out his feelings without thinking one day. XD Up to that point, though, he’d probably be very verbally affectionate and huggy, so if you’re the person he likes and you’re observant enough, you’ll know a confession is coming.
Nagamasa and Oichi both really want to write each other love letters, but neither one has been able to come up with a love letter they’re satisfied with yet. XD Oichi actually has a few long completed love letters, but she doesn’t feel like she’s written them well enough to meet Nagamasa’s standards, so she’s hidden them away for now. Oichi’s love letters start out kind of nice and happy but tend to turn depressing and a tad obsessive the longer they go on. Nagamasa has tried several times to write a love letter, but he always ends up crossing things out to the point that he has to throw away the paper and start over. He has a lot of trouble trying to write a love letter because 1) he’s a tsundere samurai who gets very embarrassed when it comes to talking about his deepest feelings and 2) his letters come off as too stiff and formal and cold even by his standards (they sound like missives he’d give his subordinates to order them around) for him to give to Oichi as love letters. Once they’ve been around each other longer and become comfortable with each other, though, I think they’d both be relaxed enough to finally send each other decent love letters. ^^
At this point in his life, Kiyomasa’s not really looking for long-term romantic relationships, mostly just one-night stands and short flings. So love letters would come off too strong and/or give the other person the wrong idea about what he wants from the relationship. But even if he did want to pursue a long-term relationship someday, Kiyomasa has enough self-confidence to just say what he wants to say directly to the other person instead of writing it out.
Kaioh/Past!Katsuie would write a love letter similar to Katsuie’s letter, but instead of being depressing, it’d come off as almost delusionally happy and excited, like he’s assuming you’ll just say yes to him. Then he’d probably try to invade your clan’s land and take it over so that he can therefore ‘claim’ you as his own, because he’s terrible. XD Kiyouki wouldn’t bother writing a love letter or even verbally confessing his feelings, because he knows that no one wants a homeless gambling addict who has nothing to his name and is constantly getting into fights. ;u;

Helplessness in regards to his family is less uncommon to Nobunaga than any other form. They were either above him-- such as his mother and father-- or they knew him well enough that they would test his mercy to find the extent of it.
Oichi, unlike his brothers, was put into a situation in which she would have to defy Nobunaga by Nobunaga himself, and then when Nobunaga was too selfish to let her die as she wished, he took her back.
There’s some guilt there, but damned if he’s ever going to change. He’s too busy to put any thought towards it. His one attempt at an apology was marrying Oichi to Katsuie, which still, unbeknownst to Nobunaga, ended in tragedy.

As I was quickly researching up Nobunaga’s history and his relationship with the Azai clan, I saw that Nobunaga was quite happy with the political marriage between Nagamasa and Oichi ( his younger sister, who is known to be the most beloved in the Oda clan and popular due to being the mother of the Azai Sisters ) that he paid for their wedding ceremony completely when traditionally it is supposed to be a shared expense between the two clans since it was an arranged marriage to unified the two clans.
Plus there were rumors that Nobunaga kept the skull of Nagamasa and drinks from it, though the reality of it is that Nobunaga kept their remains in order to honor them.
It was another situation where “It can’t be helped” due to Nobunaga’s abuse of power and the Azai clan not tolerating it. It was bound to happen regardless. Now, this is a headcanon supported by historical facts.
Oichi is known to be loved by everybody in the Oda clan, so in Fate, she will most likely be the same, loved by Nobunaga and the rest of her family members. I can see Nobunaga paying for the entire wedding out of her adoration for Oichi but also respect for Nagamasa who will soon to be her brother-in-law. After all, the Azai and Oda clan were peaceful and had good relations with each other for a few years before the betrayal.

You got: Death
You can be a bit intense and find yourself drawn to dark and mysterious things. You’ve been through a lot and have probably seen your fair share of endings, but probably cope with it through humor. On top of that, you are surprisingly easygoing — you’re open to change, try not to let past baggage weigh you down, and seek out new experiences.

Modern SLBP Lord Story Parallels  (continued)
See Part One with Masamune, Kojuro, Shigezane and Yukimura
Kirigakure Saizo
Please pause for a moment to consider modern!assassin Saizo as the driver in all those glorious stunt driving getaways in Baby Driver trailer. Okay so for the life of you, you can’t figure out what Saizo’s job actually is. Some days he’s dressed as a janitor, other days a marketing executive, and at least once you could have sworn he brought his son to bring-your-kid-to-work-day. I mean, sure, Yukimura told you he was an assassin but this is 2017, there’s not a market for that, right? All you know is ever since you took a job catering for Takeda Corp, he hasn’t trusted you, and there is something both familiar and sort of terrifying about him, though that possibly has something to do with him showing up in your room at the company dorms day one threatening to kill you if you were, in fact, a spy. Which you aren’t, something you commiserate with the friendly florist next door to the company cafeteria. Shenanigans ensure, and you learn that the simple, straightforward world you’ve always believed in is a lot more dangerous the more money is involved, and the corporate world is as brutal, seedy and violently cutthroat as any gang war, and you are ill-equipped to navigate in the dark. How lucky for you that a certain shadow has an inordinate fondness for the company cafeteria’s new dango offerings…
Oda Nobunaga
What’s a cook to do when Japan’s Most Eligible Bachelor decides he wants you in his bed? Tell him to shove it, of course, because he’s an arrogant jerk. But the most successful business tycoon in the country isn’t exactly a man who gives up lightly; just look at his economic goals. Oda, Inc. is staged to singlehandedly bring the national economy back from the brink, and it’s clear to anyone watching the news that its ruthless—some would say hellish and foolish—CEO won’t be satisfied until his company is dominating the world stage without peer. His heartless firing of an old man who was days from retirement earns your objection and ire, and your interference with the whole affair gets his attention. Next thing you know, you’re a personal pastry chef to a man some say is even more powerful than the prime minister, and somewhere in the middle of midnight runs to deliver sweet treats, whirlwind trips to get ingredients from farflung corners of the culinary world, and some brutal corporate takeovers, you find yourself believing that maybe, just maybe, he’ll actually be the one to do it…
Lady Oichi
BECAUSE I CAN FIGHT ME In another era, the intimidating, quick-witted Oichi may have been forced to use her strength in more secretive measures, behind ornate robes and enigmatic smiles, but in today’s business world Japan there is little to hold her back. Wealth, exquisite looks, and a cutting wit both make her a target of people who covet either and both, but she is as much of a corporate warlord as her brother, serving as one of his executive vice presidents and holding her ground through fire and fallout, though rumors persist that she is intending to splinter off and strike off in a partnership with one of Oda, Inc’s subsidiaries led by Azai Nagamasa. You have no idea if the rumors or true or not—you’re just certain that if the clever beauty who compliments your cooking with firm praise wants to keep her secrets, she’ll have no trouble doing so…and more and more, you’re starting to think you’d do anything to be one of them.
Uesugi Kenshin
Truthfully, The Museum of Pretty Things I Found is…well it’s a bit of mess. The entire building is full of silliness and nonsense; crinkled leaves and rocks with a bit of a rainbow sheen to them, lanterns with crooked candles and heaps of fabric. The first time you wandered into it, you thought that surely it was a joke, or at least a very big waste of money by someone with too much of it if they could afford rent, electricity, security and staff! But over time, it tickled your humor, and you found yourself comforted by visits to the otherwise empty hall, wondering about the sort of person who would find and so truly treasure such things. This comfort becomes especially critical after a frightening encounter with your new employer leaves you shaken and unsure of your future. How fortunate for you that a beautiful man with blue eyes, who frequents the Museum as you do, happens to be there, and happens to know the owner of your silly sanctuary, who happens to be in need of a caterer for his company. Of course, when you get the application, you realize the company housing is only for men…

For the New Ask Game--Motochika?
~ autumn-ships 🍂
-What made me like them
My brain latched onto this guy and went "This is the character ever" when I first found him. He passed the vibe check with flying colors. His side story was fun, too!
-My favorite thing about them
I like a lot of things about him! Quite a few guys on my lists are musicians or artists in some way, and he's one of them. He's got a cool, rebellious personality and a fluffy cloak as well. What's not to like?
-Nicknames we have for each other
Motochika sometimes calls me "the actual fire warlord" (Conquest!Jenni's partner is the Torchic line and Hideyoshi was the first warlord she and Oichi took out kajhsfkshdfjkshdkfjdh).
-A headcanon of our relationship/friendship
Motochika was actually kinda smitten with Jenni when she rolled up to Fontaine and took out his entire army despite having a type disadvantage. He loves a woman who can kick his ass.
-My favorite image of them
Tumblr media
There was only one existing copy of this tiny ass image from Bulbapedia and I was able to upscale it. My spirit is unbreakable
-Anything else!
I need to keep playing this game ;-;

Headcanons in a Face
Tumblr media
Regarding the increase of newcomers in Spirale, Oichi only depends if the newcomer themselves are friendly or not if Nagamasa isn't around. She is generally a nice lady but in a sad face most likely.
As long as one can understand the life she's been through, she considers that one as a friend to her.

Send “📂“ for a random yet completely useless headcanon I have
📂 i think Nobunaga's hair should be messy when he first takes it out of that pineapple hairstyle. like. its probabyl smoother prior to putting it IN that style, but it gets messy by the time he takes it out of the ponytail and is a little frazzled looking. i think that'd be cute
📂 similarly, I want nobunaga and ruthe to wake up and hes entangled in their hair. ruthe refuses to put their hair up t osleep so this just keeps happening
📂 oichi brushes both their hair and braids it :]

Samonji, the sword, and Samurai Warriors 5 + Honnoji spoilers. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t read this! I just felt like rambling.
Just my interpretation of the end of the game~
(Souza) Samonji, the sword Nobunaga ‘inherited’ from Yoshimoto, a symbol of ‘the ambition towards taking and ruling the country’. Nobunaga said that as long as the sword would be in his hand, his will towards the reformation wouldn’t break.
And what does he do? He gives Samonji to Yasuke for safekeeping before Mitsuhide comes to Honnoji. He knew he would die that day, he knew that Mitsuhide would defeat him - because it was Nobunaga’s wish, and he knew Mitsuhide would grant it (because Mitsuhide never disappointed).
He gave away Samonji, and with it his will towards reformation, fighting Mitsuhide with oodachi. (Making Mitsuhide lose his gun so their final clash was a sword fight only). [my stupid headcanon follows but I really like that Mitsuhide lost the gun at Honnoji. I imagine that it was Nobunaga who gave it to him, and in a way it was a symbol of what Mitsuhide had become walking the same path with Nobunaga, so it’s only fitting that it was Nobunaga who made him lose it, and then it got burned at Honnoji. I might just write a fic about this]
And so when Mitsuhide defeats Nobunaga, and Nobunaga disappeared in the flames, Yasuke comes and gives Samonji to Mitsuhide, per Nobunaga’s wish.
It was a nice ‘closing of a circle’ because in a pre-Honnoji stage, Nobunaga ‘cut Mitsuhide from his life’ with Samonji. And now he gave the sword to him so Mitsuhide could continue to accomplish their oath.
Did Nobunaga perhaps wish Mitsuhide to take over and be the one who would achieve the reformation? Or did he already suspected what would happen? Who knows.
Mitsuhide himself knew that his end would come soon, that someone who would want to take a revenge would come. So still at Honnoji, after promising Nobunaga he would see to their oath, he gave Samonji to Yasuke for safekeeping (until a successor appears? To give to Oichi?), and Yasuke left Honnoji with it.
And Mitsuhide pretended to take over the country, Samonji-less, until Hideyoshi appeared before him. And Mitsuhide didn’t fight him to survive or to win, he fought him to see if Hideyoshi had what it took. Mitsuhide knew that he himself, like Nobunaga, wouldn’t be able to see the new world where flowers and trees could bloom - their sins were too grave.
And the thing is, Mitsuhide was stronger. Hideyoshi could not defeat him one on one. But Hideyoshi wasn’t alone and had strong bonds with his vassals, and because of them Hideyoshi was able to win.
And seeing the bonds Hideyoshi had, allowed Mitsuhide to die knowing that the future appeared to be in good hands.
It made him see what he’d always hoped for, yet what wasn’t possible ever since Kichou was killed.
And after defeating Mitsuhide, Hideyoshi was all set on obtaining the country and Samonji.
He just needs to find Yasuke first. Or maybe Yasuke will find him and give him the sword, passing along the will and ambition towards ruling the country (and perhaps Nobunaga and Mitsuhide’s wish - but Hideyoshi doesn’t particularly care about that, he’s not carrying on Nobunaga’s vision. That’s what Mitsuki is for).

Headcanons about Nagamasa's Parents !
Nagamasa's mother —– Ono-dono ( 小野殿 ) / Ako ( 阿古 )
She’s originally from the Iguchi family. Her father (Iguchi Keigen) was the retainer and right-hand man of Hisamasa’s father (Azai Sukemasa), so it was natural that Ako and Hisamasa were married, given the friendship between their fathers and to keep the ties between their two clans strong.
Ako married Hisamasa when she was 14-15 years old, and when Hisamasa was 15-16 years old.
She had her first daughter (later known as Kyogoku Maria) a couple years after getting married.
Ako has a good relationship with Hisamasa’s eldest illegitimate daughter / Sukemasa’s adopted daughter Aku ( 阿久 ) / Shoankenkyu ( 昌安見久尼 ). Since they’re only nine years apart in age, Ako views Aku as something akin to a younger sister.
She also has an older brother, two younger sisters, and one younger brother who are related to her by blood?
As a teenager / young adult, Ako had a very positive and somewhat easily excited personality, but she was also very sheltered and naïve about some things.
Ako quickly developed romantic feelings for Hisamasa when she first married him. When she looks back on that time now, she realizes this was mostly just her being excited to be married (and to be the first daughter in her family to be married).
Several years of being a hostage and raising Saruyashamaru (little Nagamasa) all by herself forced her to mature quickly and learn to always be on the lookout for danger. She returns to the Azai as a cautious, wise-beyond-her-years woman, although she still retains some of her optimism.
Ako can’t help but wonder whether she could’ve curbed Maria’s cruel / selfish tendencies if she had been there to guide her when she was growing up.
Ako’s strongest bond is with Nagamasa, and Nagamasa is in turn very close to his mother, since the two of them only had each other to rely on during their time as hostages. Because of this, Ako is probably the only person in the Azai clan who has even a suspicion that Nagamasa’s time as a hostage was traumatic for him. Even though he doesn’t “act traumatized”, she believes that if he hadn’t been a hostage, his personality probably would’ve been very different. She worries about how much his time as a hostage has affected him and wonders whether she could’ve done more to protect him.
Ako currently has mixed feelings towards Hisamasa. Being a hostage for eight years (and, at times, fearing for her life and/or her son’s life) was a traumatic experience for her and she’ll probably never completely forgive Hisamasa for giving her to the Rokkaku as a hostage. In addition, she’s very hurt that he slept around during this time. However, Ako also wonders if Nagamasa’s actions towards Hisamasa (forcing him to retire and exiling him) were too harsh. In the end, though, she’s fine with the status quo of Nagamasa being in charge and Hisamasa being exiled. Ako could end up befriending Hisamasa, but there’s no chance that she’d fall in love with him again.
Ako was initially nervous about Nagamasa getting married, both because she had a feeling that he couldn’t deal with a loveless political marriage like she could, and because she was worried that he’d be too harsh on his future wife and scare her off. But she’s glad to see that a warm, loving relationship is slowly but surely blossoming between Oichi and Nagamasa.
Ako has interacted with Oichi in-person several times since Nagamasa’s marriage. She sees her younger self in Oichi a little bit, and tries to encourage her to be more confident and more open about her emotions with Nagamasa. However, Oichi’s Dark Hands and the “Demon King” side of Oichi’s personality seriously creep Ako out. XD So she mostly interacts with Oichi as a penpal, and the two of them send letters to each other on a regular basis.
Nagamasa built her a place specifically for her to live called 阿古の邸 (Ako’s Residence?), which is where she lives most of the time. It’s a quiet, peaceful place where her servants wait on her and treat her like she’s the owner of the residence, and because of this, she’s really mellowed out and come to peace with a lot of what’s happened to her. Despite only being in her late 30s / early 40s, she kind of lives and acts like a grandma now. XD
Ako ends up meeting a very terrible end. During the same month that Nagamasa dies (but before he dies), Ako gets captured by the Oda army. Over the course of a few days, each of her fingers are cut off, and then she dies.
Nagamasa's father —– Azai Hisamasa ( 浅井久政 )
Eldest son of Azai Sukemasa and the second-generation head of the Azai family.
Hisamasa is supposedly a legitimate child of his father Sukemasa, but there have been rumors ever since he was young that he’s the son of Sukemasa’s concubine. These rumors have followed him into adulthood.
Has four younger half-brothers (if the rumors are to be believed, one is his full brother), three younger sisters (half-sisters?), and two younger half-sisters.
Hisamasa resents his father for multiple reasons, some of which are obvious and others which are less so. One reason is that others often compare him to his father, Sukemasa, and consider him to be cowardly and foolish while they consider his father to be a brave, skilled warrior. He feels that they tend to ignore the talents he does have while putting his father on a pedestal. Another reason is that Sukemasa was tough on Hisamasa, since he was the eldest son and Sukemasa wanted him to be the Azai clan’s next leader. A third reason is that Sukemasa refused to confirm who Hisamasa’s birth mother actually is, even to his own son. The circumstances of Aku’s conception and birth also cause Hisamasa to bear a grudge against his father.
As a young man, Hisamasa seems like a good-natured and friendly young man, if a bit shy. However, on the inside, he’s very stressed and bears grudges against his father and some of his father’s men.
Sukemasa died when Hisamasa was 16 years old, not long after Hisamasa married Ako. When Sukemasa died, Hisamasa had trouble inheriting the title of clan leader. Sukemasa’s son-in-law, along with the Kyogoku clan, tried to start a rebellion so that Sukemasa’s son-in-law could inherit the position instead. However, Hisamasa and his retainers talked him out of it.
As he grows up (and especially after Sukemasa’s death), Hisamasa loses the shyness and becomes very extroverted. To deal with his stress, he invests himself in culture and the arts —– Noh theater, renga, falconry, etc. He’s interested in trying all sorts of things!
However, no matter how many years pass, Hisamasa has little aptitude for fighting and battle strategy. His true talents lie in domestic policy and diplomacy —– he can be a very smooth talker and somewhat manipulative, especially in his later years. Even while he’s “retired” and exiled on Chikibu Island, he still exerts some influence over the Azai clan.
Sending his wife as a hostage to the Rokkaku clan was not a decision he took lightly, and it pained him deeply to make it. However, he feels that if he hadn’t done it, the leader of the Rokkaku clan would have become upset and crushed the Azai clan.
Although he tries to hide it, Hisamasa is the sort of person who constantly needs positive attention from others so that he can feel okay about himself. During the time Ako was a hostage, with Ako gone and his retainers starting to turn against him, Hisamasa started sleeping around, and that’s how Nagamasa’s younger half-brother Masamoto was born.
Hisamasa tried to rekindle his relationship with Ako when she returned, but she gave him the cold shoulder when she learned about Masamoto’s birth. To this day he’s still hoping he can win her back, and he sends her love letters every few months. She never responds back.
Hisamasa’s relationship with Nagamasa is strained at best. However, while Nagamasa hates him for being a weak leader and forcing Nagamasa and his mother to be hostages, Hisamasa’s only somewhat annoyed with his eldest son for usurping his title of clan leader. Hisamasa doesn’t understand why Nagamasa hates him so much, and he feels that Nagamasa should think more kindly of him since Hisamasa wasn’t anywhere near as hard on Nagamasa as Sukemasa was on him.
In general, Hisamasa cares about his children equally and treats them all quite warmly, showing them physical affection (e.g. hugs, headpats, etc.) and always doing his best to cheer them on at whatever they’re doing and compliment them.
That having been said, Maria is Hisamasa’s favorite child, and he’s doted on her ever since she was young. XD As Maria has grown up and become more independent (and less reliant on him for basic needs and emotional support), though, their relationship is starting to show signs of strain.
Unfortunately, Hisamasa has never been able to feel any fondness for his eldest daughter, Aku, due to the circumstances of her conception and birth. When she was first born, he could hardly bring himself to be in the same room as her and her mother. However, he’s always felt guilty about feeling so detached from / disgusted by Aku, because he knows those feelings stem from how he feels about her mother and that Aku has done nothing to deserve that from him. After being exiled to Chikubu Island, Hisamasa’s loneliness and guilt caught up with him, and he started reaching out to Aku for the first time via a letter. To his surprise, Aku enthusiastically wrote him back, and the two of them became penpals.
Hisamasa has never actually met Oichi. But back when Nagamasa first married her, Hisamasa sent him a letter simultaneously congratulating him for marrying the most beautiful woman in the land and condemning his decision to ally with the Oda. Nagamasa never replied back.
Hisamasa hates Nobunaga and feels that Nagamasa’s decision to ally with him is one of the worst decisions he’s ever made. Hisamasa regularly corresponds with some of the older Azai retainers he knows who also dislike Nobunaga to try to sabotage Nagamasa’s alliance with the Oda.
Nagamasa grudgingly lets Hisamasa back into Odani Castle so he can have him help fight against Nobunaga. However, during the attack on Odani Castle, once the Azai start losing, Hisamasa sees the writing on the wall and commits seppuku.
