I’ve been looking for this Draw the Squad for a bit now because I remembered it and it reminded me of these three
Oshawott Chespin and Scorbunny the anime characters in particular they are a holy trinity in my head
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure the original box is actually labeled “corndogs” but I’ve never noticed that and always interpreted them as popsicles so just pretend that’s what they are here. Chespin would want something sweeter anyway
Tumblr media
Finally found it

I had an idea for a pokemon challenge that I'm calling the Starter Squad Challenge (for obvious reasons and lack of creativity)
Basically, you don't have to choose a starter, rather, you get all three (how you get all three on the same save is entirely up to you, no shame in hacking.) Oh? Doesn't seem that challenging?
Well, thats ALL you're getting.
Need to use cut? Sorry, gotta pick one of your pals to play lumberjack Up against a dragon type? Good luck, Mr/Ms/Whateveryouprefer Hard-countered Somehow found a shiny but don't have another game to transfer it to? THATS TOO DAMN BAD!
Now since I myself am a wimp, you can opt to not use permadeath, but if it's a wipe, that's game over.
Can your trio of heroes best the threats opposing their region, or will they fall to the challenge of overcoming type matchups? Only one way to find out!

Batman characters get Pokémon time!
Bruce has a Marowak, naturally, since he encountered a Cubone after his parents' death and bonded with it since they emphasized with each other. I think he also has a Delphox evolved from the Fennekin he received as a kid for his starter pokemon.
Batman's public partner, however, is a Noivern.
Dick has a Bolthund, but Nightwing has an Altaria.
Jason has an Mightyena, but Red Hood has a Fearrow.
Damian has a full squad of six "fierce" pokemon (actually super adorable or genuinely baby pokemon). I'm thinking Cleffa, Togepi, Riolu, Munchlax, Eevee, and Rockruff. No thought was put into making this a balanced team. Cuteness only. Damian insists with proper training he can make them a balanced team.
Robin has a Honedge, not that everyone is aware his sword is a pokemon. Bruce definitely isn't, and is currently trying to convince Damian to pick between either his Riolu or his Rockruff to remove from his civilian team and use exclusively as his vigilante partner to protect his identity. But limiting yourself to six pokemon partners is a stupid rule anyway! He should be allowed to have as many as he can provide care and training for, and as the Heir to the Bat and the Demon's Head, he has many resources at his disposal! Once he proves himself capable of managing seven by proving himself as Robin and revealing Honedge, he should easily be able to convince his father to let him take home the Mareep he desperately wants as his eighth!
I really like the idea of the Drakes all having ghost pokemon for no reason other than I like ghost pokemon. But also fossil type pokemon because they definitely dug some up on their trips.
Jack Drake has a Dusclops and an Archeops. Janet has a Froslass and a Bastiodon. (I don't subscribe to Jack and Janet being basically monsters to Tim, I see them more as "would have been a great Aunt/Uncle, but definitely can't and shouldn't be in charge of a child full-time" BUT I picked these pokemon for vibes only and yet, it's interesting that the pokedex entries for both Dusclops and Froslass describe them as having "completely hollow" bodies. Hmm. You could pyschoanalyze the shit out of that.)
Tim also has a full team of 6, because I have too many I want to give him, and he's rich, so he can afford it. He has a Rotom, a Dreepy, a Shuppet, and an Aurorus his parents revived from a fossil for him. (And a Mimkyu, but his parents didn't know about that one.)
Red Robin has a Persian.
Ra's Al Ghul has Rayquaza. And as part of his whole environmental terrorist thing, he is trying to also capture Kyogre and Groudon.
Alfred has Shaymin. Don't ask where he got it, Shaymin's been with him since before he worked for the Waynes.
Stephanie has a Mime Jr. while Spoiler has a Hitmonchan.
Duke has a Chatot, and Signal has a Growlithe.
Barbara has a Gardevoir and a Pichu who was her partner as Batgirl. She doesn't need a separate pokemon as Oracle since she's not in front of the public.

I'll trade my pokemon secrets if you trade yours! Which is your favorite starter/your ideal dream team?
Ahahahah YES! PICHU GETS TO SCREAM ABT POKÉMON! ❤️😂

Favorite starter award goes to Oshawott!!! He’s just a little precious lil’ dude and I LUV HIM!!! 🦦 Water types are prolly my favorite of ‘em all, and the whole line is just peak design, man <33 Love them to death!! Samurott’s one of my favs and always will be!! (Close seconds and thirds go to Meganium and Feraligatr!)
Ooooooh Pokémon Dream Team??? Let’s go!!! ❤️ ✨
#1 (ace) - what else but a level 100 Pichu?? xDD I think it’d be a crime if I didn’t have my all-time favorite bean with me!! (Although for logistical reasons he prolly would be a Raichu shshsh)
#2 - Houndoom!!! EXTREMELY precious Pokémon to me shshshsh. Technically he’s the star of my first ever fanfic, too 😂 6th grade Pichu regrets nothing
#3 - Togekissss! Also one of my favorites, and BOY you know I ain’t playing this game without a flyer xD These legs weren’t meant for walking.
#4 ~ Goodra. GOODRA! Big slimy fella who gives big ol’ hugs!! Everyone needs a nice pseudo-legend on their team, and this fella’s been my favorite dragon since time immemorial.
#5 - Lycanroc dusk!!! literally my favorite Pokémon before Pichu 😂 Wolfie powweeeeeeerrr!!!
#6 (last but not least) ~ we got Samurott!! My favorite starter, my favorite starter evolution, and you KNOW we’re gonna need a surfer lmao xD Perfect way to round out the squad!!!

And Now, An Interlude
I did coast through Blizzard Island pretty quick, but my next week or so is kind of insane. I'm out of state from 11/6-11/9 and I'm honestly not sure I can get the arc posted before then :(
But for every cloud, there's a silver lining. I definitely have time to share the nonsense I got into while I was stitching together the Sky Peak post. I really wanted to keep playing the game but without advancing the plot and getting ahead of the blog, so... I improvised.
Tumblr media
This picture is basically the theme of the post so enjoy lol
(No, we did not recruit her unfortunately 😔)
First, I want to share some teammates I snagged... and some I lost.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS GOD TIER STARAPTOR. Literally the GOAT. I was so, so upset when our client Pidgeotto later got destroyed by a Monster House. I suppose I could have gone through with the defeat, but the risk of losing more than a few exclusive items just wasn't worth it.
But we did get to keep someone I'm pretty sure is Young Guildmaster Wigglytuff:
Tumblr media
And HE COULD LEARN ROAR OF TIME. SO I SAID "SURE WHY NOT" AND GAVE HIM THE TM.
It's not a practical set of moves by any means (confusion from Petal Dance (which missed a whole ton anyway), 30% accuracy on Fissure, low PP and stall after using Roar of Time), but definitely fun to play with.
Tumblr media
Andrea also tried learning Vine Whip upon level up, but... It wasn't very strong, so I passed on it. Honestly, unless she gets something incredible, I'm thinking her current move set is final.
Tumblr media
...Yeah, I told you this was gonna be a common thread. Thankfully we dodged an encounter with the ancient god of the land because... *gestures to the stairs Being Right There*
After a few days of odd jobs, I realized I didn't want our duo getting too far along the experience curve. But how else could I satisfy my itch to keep playing this game? I could play as other Pokémon, sure, but most of them were far too weak for the average Bulletin Board request.
...And then I remembered: I hadn't tried a single dungeon from Poliwhirl's Dojo yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Okay yeah I took these photos after completing all of them but shhhh)
This was our menu of offerings (loaded with affluence and laughter, apparently). Some were conquered on the first try. Some required a little bit of elbow grease. And some... well, they certainly put my patience to the test. I remember Affluent Turn, Hilarious Court, Prosperous Outback, and Hilarious Abyss being particularly troublesome.
"Wait, but aren't the dojo mazes only five floors-" Correct! But these dungeons are randomized like any other, meaning they have three things the mazes typically don't: traps, monster houses, and a whole lot of sticky items.
Granted, this was the squad:
Tumblr media
But the traditional starters are well-boosted in the stats to begin with, so it wasn't too bad. And this is a randomizer, so...
Tumblr media
I'msorryCharmanderlearnedWHAT?!
(I now want to watch an anime episode where a tiny Igglybuff and Charmander wreck Dialga's sh*t with Roar of Time.)
After enough tries, we were able to nudge the three starters towards evolution. And hilariously, they all insisted on learning OHKO moves (and Dig for some reason):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
G-Grovyle, my beloved...
You Do Not See The Palkia, Grovyle Is Clearly Fighting Primal Dialga Here.
Yet the one thing that was consistent across these dungeons to the point of skepticism... was the sheer abundance of legendaries.
Tumblr media
Like I honestly think it would be easier for me to list the legendaries NOT included. That's how many there were. Take a gander at this list (bold indicates the Pokémon sighted):
Kanto: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew
Johto: Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi
Hoenn: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys (multiple forms, all mirage)
Sinnoh: Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina (both forms), Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin (both forms)
Most of these were in the Final Maze, too. No wonder it was called this instead:
Tumblr media
In total, we only recruited two of these legends, which is pretty impressive when you remember you're forced into these places with an empty bag (so no items to help increase the recruitment rate). The first, as you can see above, was Uxie, one of the True Time Gear Guardians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not bad! Not bad at all.
And the second... the second is pretty special. I'm still giddy about it even all these days later:
Tumblr media
😍 YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT. I RECRUITED THE LADY HERSELF!
I SCREECHED when I saw her in the dungeon to begin with, so you can imagine the commotion I made when she wanted to join the team!! When you talked to her in a dungeon, she even said the phrases. You know, stuff like hating the decay brought about by the world of darkness, and there being no need to worry because she can't ever be caught, of course!
I suppose she's a little confused by her displacement in time and space, but you know what? This really makes it feel like her... so I wouldn't have it any other way <3
Tumblr media
She originally joined us at Level 38. I already knew, without a doubt, that she was gonna become a permanent fixture of the team. So I loaded her up with 3 Golden Seeds, every Gummi I had leftover from the mazes, and some Proteins.
Why Protein? Well, she originally knew... Tackle, Endeavor, Strength, and Meteor Mash lol. Her attack stat was also dreadfully low, so why not catch that up to the others when I happen to be swimming in Proteins?
I did also feed her some TMs to diversify the move set a little:
Tumblr media
This shot is actually outdated already: presently she knows Super Fang instead of Rock Climb and Hidden Power instead of Defend Order.
There is one slightly unfortunate caveat to my sheer excitement:
Tumblr media
Yeah... Normalize. So she can't benefit from the STAB on Giga Drain. But I suppose there are worse things.
Here's something I doubt many people have seen! You're technically not supposed to be able to speak with her in Rotom's Cafe, right? So of course I was dying to know what she said when you spoke to her there, and:
Tumblr media
Forgive the desaturation and such, as you can see by the reflection I snapped this one with my phone 💀
Interesting, no? Read that again: Magneton. If you recall, that Pokémon was her replacement in the story! Funny to see it show up here, in what I can only presume is the title of her idle pose. For reasons unknown to me, sometimes she said "standby 2" instead.
Anyway, she and the Gabite you saw earlier were our tried and true teammates during our many, many attempts to conquer Massive Tomb. To skirt around the excess EXP problem, I simply reset whenever things went awry.
The thing with Massive Tomb is... It has 48 floors, right? (Which I found odd, why not make it 50 at that point?) And you're not allowed any items upon entry. So either you miraculously find a string of Secret Bazaars to replenish your belly until you find an Apple of some kind (lol) or you starved to death by floor 11. Oh, and basically every other floor was a Monster House. So it really came down to sheer luck.
There was one attempt where I got as far as 43F. But my string of good fortune turned sour: back-to-back Monster Houses slowly picked off my teammates and made Andrea run out of PP for Blizzard. So when we ran into yet another Monster House (this time mandatory), all it took was one Triple Kick from Persian before it's all over. That loss felt particularly devastating.
The one attempt that finally succeeded was the one where we didn't run into a single MH until we were over 2/3s of the way through. Although the one that did finally show up nearly ended me.
Tumblr media
But finally... Finally!
Tumblr media
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAW!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the one hand: Can you imagine if the aura you got at the beginning was Brown? I would be so mad if I had two of the same color lol. Though on the other hand, aura color doesn't really matter? It only shows up in the flavor text and item sprite - the latter of which you only see if the item gets knocked off of you.
But hey, I'll take it. I'm just glad I finally got through the darn place!
Oh geez, this "mini update" was very close to 30 images somehow 😬 But I hope you enjoyed seeing this not-insignificant, optional part of the main world!
Bonus:
Tumblr media
...Okay I guess I lied, we recruited three legends.

@from-ultra-space
Greetings, I am Nori of the Ultra Recon Squad. It seems you are quite knowledgeable about this school you go to so I would like to ask some questions. From my limited research it appears the school provides pokemon for the students? Is it not a concern for students to receive such a powerful creature? Additionally, what is the treasure hunt?
Yep, glad you reached out! Ultra Space isn’t my expertise, but I’ve heard some UBs showed up in Paldea once…
Our starter Pokémon are pretty harmless! I mean, sure, there’s the risk of burns or water damage or cuts, but we do teach basic handling and respect from the get-go! Plus, all three are loyal as could be.
Our Treasure Hunt, though… that’s pretty much our great quest to find what you love! Battling, cooking, music… there’s even one student who told me about Golduck yesterday! Go where you want! Do what you want! It’s that sort of project.

I still find it so funny that Caterpie acted as if Squirtle was this unstoppable force of nature that corrupted them. Like no, dear, you did that yourself.
Love them for that tbh. What an antagonist.

Hi Ortho! Mind answering an important question for me please?
Tumblr media
Choose one pokemon please ^^
All of these Pokémon have their pros and cons! While Charmander is a fan favourite, and becomes a dragon type upon Mega Evolving in X and beyond (effectively making it the strongest), if we are going off of generation one, it is the most difficult starter to use, as it is weak against the first two gyms. Squirtle is a good middle ground, being super effective against the first gym in generation one and neutral against the second, though being pure water type, it does not have a wider range of uses. It was a fan favourite in the anime, though, with Ash's Squirtle being the leader of the Squirtle Squad. Bulbasaur makes a good easy mode starter, being super effective against the first two gyms, plus being immune to the poison in Erika's gym later in the game. Despite this, it remains the least popular of the generation one starters, often overlooked by Squirtle and especially Charmander. All three are fantastic choices in their own rights, depending on what you may be looking for in gameplay. No one starter is objectively better than another.

updated refs for alto! stuff about them under the cut
A Pokémon Ranger from Ringtown in the Fiore region. They are part of a squad dispatched to Unova to help reunite Pokémon released by Trainers due to Team Plasma. The mass releases have caused some Pokémon to think their Trainers abandoned them out of spite and have become aggressive and distrusting of humans, meaning the Ranger's methods are the only way to calm them down. Alto ends up liking Unova so much they move there permanently. They help to establish the first Ranger Union bases outside of the Fiore, Almia and Oblivia regions.
Alto appears cold and blunt towards workmates, they don't like small talk and will laserfocus on their tasks. They're still admired as a high-ranking and talented Ranger, often one of the first that people will think of when they need help. In reality, they aren't good with people and try to cover it up by being very straight to the point. Outside of work hours they're very quiet, preferring to spend time with Pokémon than other people. They open up around their friends and family, where they become much more outgoing and jokey. Trainee Rangers put under Alto's guidance joke about how getting a laugh out of Alto on-duty is like a badge of honor, you've earned their respect if they like you enough to loosen up around you.
Alto and their family in Fiore specialize in Flying-types. They run a sanctuary for bird Pokémon which is multipurpose: they train bird Pokémon specifically for delivery or transportation jobs, and care for Pokémon brought in by the Rangers (which inspired Alto to become one themself).
People in Fiore don't participate in battles, there's just barely any interest there, but Alto decided to take it up after meeting people like N, Skyla, Hilda and Nate. Alto is REALLY bad at it though. Their party is Fearow, Unfezant, Swanna, Vullaby and Rufflet. Fearow is their ace, and she was their starter Pokémon.
this character is also oc x canon with n so. there's the odd post about those two here and there
