I still find it so funny that Caterpie acted as if Squirtle was this unstoppable force of nature that corrupted them. Like no, dear, you did that yourself.
Love them for that tbh. What an antagonist.

Can I request Buggy with Fluff N3 for the event? Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello anon❤️ Thank you for your submission and patience! I hope you get a chance to read this :) You requested fluff, subtle intimacy, and I give you: [ Simple Touches ] Bandaging/stitching up an injury
Oh Captain, My Captain Buggy
Warnings: None. Fluff and cute stuffs. Ended up sorta sweet n' romantic in a way I wasn't anticipating but Buggy deserves it tbh, cutie but wet n' pathetic King of the Pirates❤️ Word count: 1.1K
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“OOOOOWWWWW!”
You push through the pained howls of your Captain as you stitch up his latest injuries. For a man who had eaten the chop-chop fruit, he sure got brutally chopped up by other people more than he should reasonably be.
To be fair, his latest network of contacts involved some intense and no-nonsense individuals. Two in particular who seem to have a rather tight hold on his gorgeous blue head as he did their bidding and processed their contracts.
“DAMNIT Y/N that HURTS!” Buggy hollers at you, tears spilling down his face in pure agony. It makes your heart break. Still you push on.
“It will hurt more if it festers and worsens. Then we’d have to seriously chop pieces off you,” you chide him gently, done with pushing the needle through the tail end of the long gash on his chest. “This is going to sting a bit but I’ll count down from 3. 3—” you tightened the sutures securely before he could hold his breath.
“YYYYEEEEOOOOOWWWW!!!!” his head flew from his neck, as did his hands and feet from his body. “GRR!! YOU ENJOYED THAT TOO MUCH!” he spit at you.
You give him an unimpressed look, “You know that that’s not true. Now get back here. You have some wounds on your face and right hand that need to be disinfected and bandaged. If you can make it through without any complaints, I’ll give you a treat. Sound good?”
His head reattaches to his head but his hand floats down to grip his chin, “A treat? What kind of treat?”
“A nice one. We got a deal?”
With a nod, Buggy reassembles himself and sits still as you inspect each cut and bruise. Washing away the dirt and dried blood, applying a salve on the wounds, and wrapping each one in a bandage or long, woven cotton wrap to soak up any leaking from the cuts. A hushed song brews in your throat and without realizing it, you start to emit the tune from your lips as you patch him up.
Buggy watches you closely as you lightly hum to yourself while you work. Normally, he would literally talk his ass off about anything and everything – but watching you treat him so tenderly has his mouth dry and his mind quiet. Trying to understand the feelings in his chest that you cause him to have with your firm but kind personality. Not understanding why you treat him with such dignity and warmth despite his antics; you’re one of the few people who sees through his bullshit but you also accept it, encourage it even. In his brain playing back all his interactions with you over the last year that you’ve been on his crew to better understand what your deal is.
His eyes bug out of his head for a moment, a memory unearthing itself. With Alvida.
“I think the new doc likes you, Bugs,” she tilted her cowboy covered head at Buggy. When he gave her a confused look, she scoffed and used her head to gesture at you sitting at the bar with his most trusted men. “You’re telling me that you’ve NEVER noticed how much time they manage to spend with you, or how they always talk you up? That they know almost everything about you that not even your own crew knows about?” Buggy scoffed, “Most of my crew are idiots, why would I tell those morons anything?” Alvida gave him a bewildered look, “Then why do you share anything with the doc?” “I don’t share EVERYTHING!” “Oh no? So you haven’t spilled to them how Emperor Shanks is the only man you can respect as the next King of the Pirates?” His hands flew to her face and smothered her speech, “QUIET YOU DAMN WOMAN!”
Buggy felt like an idiot.
That was maybe three months ago.
“All done. You should heal up in no time but if you feel worse, you know where to find me.”
Buggy brought his hand to the back of his neck, “Yeah. Sure.” He wasn’t sure how to pivot from being a crybaby patient to a flashy guy with rizz when he suddenly felt…overly aware of how he acts around you. To be perceived by you and now knowing that you were perceiving him.
“Wh-where’s my treat?”
“Oh that’s right I do owe you a nice one. Wait right here.”
His mind is racing a mile a minute, trying to plan, trying to scheme a charming personality in 2-seconds flat as he watches you go to your desk and pull out a dark bottle. Buggy didn’t notice how attractive your face is as he did just now. He always thought you were the most attractive in the crew in general, but now he was seeing your face. And he found that…he actually quite liked it.
Your step falters are you become aware of his intense stare. You feel…insecure suddenly. Is there something gross on your face or scrubs? Does he not like liquor suddenly? Oh no, is your hair messy?? With a trembling hand you tuck some loose hair behind your ear and lightly touch your scrub as you present the bottle.
“An aged rum that I nicked from our last raid. I hear it’s a grossly expensive brand.”
Buggy took the bottle and rolls it in his hands quietly, not saying anything at all. You watch him nervously, anxiety eating at your gut, a hot flush spreading behind your ears and the back of your neck. You know for a fact that Buggy likes expensive things, no matter what it is. Even if he hates what it actually is, like that time he tried bull fighting fish caviar. He was laid up in your office for a week after that one. He still keeps a preserved jar around, just so he can say he has it on hand.
“I hear it goes well with steak, or something,” you mumble, confidence draining away slowly.
He perks up to that, “Steak? Oh yeah, yes that does sound like a good pairing.” He stands up from the cot and shifts on his feet.
Buggy the Star Clown is shooting his shot.
“If I make Cabaji cook up a few steaks, would you…be interested in joining me for dinner? A flashily impromptu date?”
Your eyes nearly bug out of your head, that being the last thing you expect to hear from him. You had been certain that you would have to ask him out yourself with all the hints and nudges you gave him in the past seemed to go, well, right over his head.
“Oh! Y-yes that sounds nice!”
Smiling, Buggy turns to exit. Passing through the threshold he turns back to add, “I’ll pick you up at your cabin later. Escort you to the dining hall and all that jazz.” He ducks out of the room.
You’re glad he isn’t there anymore because your knees weaken and you grab the cot in support. Thrilled, you look at your schedule and decide to close up early. The injured would have to stay injured on their time, you had an important date tonight.

I finally got to sit down and finish episode one, and i've got some thoughts!!
I think that introducing garp as a big player right from the get go is a really great idea. His presence at the execution made sense, and his dynamic with roger did well to help establish both of their characterisations
Roger's actor did a phenomenal job with the eerie laugh and his complete irreverance in the face of his own death. I love how he delivered the wealth fame power speech!
It was a bit surprising to me that they showed roger actually getting killed, but honestly i'm in total approval of this direction they're taking with the live action. I really like the more brutal approach, especially because oda's refusal to kill anyone outside of flashbacks pre-marineford is one of the biggest complaints i tend to hear from people. Seeing zoro dragging around the top half mr 7's corpse was so jarring, but it was a good choice
Ilia's perfrmance as alvida was absolutely amazing. I like that they changed her catchphrase from the most beautiful woman on the seas to the most powerful
Overall, i really like the different transitions between plot points, and how this episode set things up in future arcs. All the different things that go on in shells town feel so much more better interconnected than they did in the manga. I'll go into this more in another post, but like one example of what i'm talking about is how the reason zoro allowed himself to be tied to the post was because morgan threatened that if he didn't agree to it, he wouldn't be able to collect any more bounties from any marine bases. It also gives zoro mire of a reason to join luffy - he knows that at this point there's no eay he can continue being a bounty hunter now that morgan has it out for him. So how else is he going to meet other strong swordsmen? By joining a pirate crew of course.
The shanks flashback was awesome! His dynamic with luffy was really endearing, and again i do like that they didn't have higuma attack shanks. That's one thing that never really made sense to me in the manga - i get thst yoy don't have to solve everything with violence, but there's no reason for shanks not to have fought back against someone who was attacking him, even if he did know they couldn't possibly hurt him
Also on shanks' flashback - the scene where he found out luffy had eaten the devil fruit was AMAZING. What a fantastic idea to have little luffy framed in sunlight! And the utter heartbreak on shanks' face as he realizes that there's no way luffy will ever be able to have a normal life now...
Of course, we gotta mention the snippet of Binks' Sake we heard in the scene where shanks is stitching up luffy's cut. I recognized it instantly and it made me really emotional. Love all these little easter eggs they have for long time fans of the series. In addition to this there was alsp the cavendish, foxy, and bellamy wanted posters which we knew about from the trailer
Speaking of wanted posters - what a COOL way to introduce the other pirates!
Morgan going on his monologue about capturing kuro is SO funny know what's gonna happen on a few episodes. Oda played it a lot more subtle in the manga but i like that they came right out and said it here.
And while we're talking about foreshadowing, it was a fantastic idea to include the mr 7 fight in this season! I really hope we get a season 2, just sp we can get the payoff for this great setup.
I'm a little sad that we didn't get to see the luffy and koby hug that was shown in the behind the scenes video (i think that was the one?). I really hope that wasn't cut because i loved that little scene. Maybe it'll happen later in the season?
Buggy's introduction at the end of the episode was SO good. I loved his whole vibe, with him lounging so confidently in his chair, his creepy laugh, everything. I'm excited to see the next episode! They better not have cut chouchou out 😭

Why the KOSA Bill Should Not Pass
tw: ab0rtion talk, assault mention, su1cide mention
also, credit to @the-realest-spot-conlon for getting this strike started. i've known about this bill for a while but until she talked about it, i hadn't really researched what this bill would have in store for the united states.
this will be a bit dark because this is sort of a speech against the KOSA bill and the bill basically wants to ban any talk of abortion, protesting and the LGBTQ+ community from kids under 16- WHICH the parents have no control over controlling what their child could see and the government would basically be saying:
"oh that's inappropriate" to say something like, idk, an inclusive video
and basically sort of brainwashing an entire generation
so yeah this will be a bit dark so don't read if you might be uncomfortable with the topics this sort of speech will have
(and this is directed at the government so when I say 'you' in the paragraphs it's towards the government)
[i removed the first part because it's a bit more personal and uh i dont think it should be shared here :sob]
And while it might seem a bit overexaggerated, it’s true. There are teenagers all over the united states, countries and the globe who face problems like these. And it’s not just verbal. No, there is physical violence and assault, hate crimes happening to students everywhere.
You might now be asking: “What does this have to do with the KOSA bill?”
I hate to say it but the internet has truly been my one and only friend I can ever count on. Who I always know has my back. The LGBTQ+ community doesn’t care if I’m not super skinny or if I have scars lining my arms. They support the fact I don’t really have any romantic feelings towards other people or really just romantic feelings in general. They make me feel normal. That it’s okay to not feel inclined to have and align with the normal gender rules. That I don’t have to follow the binary.
The internet is the only place I can analyze poetry and art deeply with different interpretations and analyzations of every single line, or every single stroke in a painting or word in a novel. Where I can freely talk about my new hyperfixation and no one will stare at me weirdly. Instead, they will respond with another essay.
They won’t say it’s “fucking sad” that I like to write essays in my free time- one of the only ways I can truly express myself because no one at school wants to hear me talk.
And it’s not just a safe place for me. No, it’s a place where everyone as a whole can express their rights and their thoughts. This is our future generation- our future leaders we’re talking about. If the only things that can make us realize what we need to change are censored, how will we ever be able to fix these problems that citizens make?
Abortion laws. Yes I’m saying that. You want to censor any talk of abortion. What about all the innocent girls out there? Brutally assaulted and forced to ruin their career because they can’t get rid of a baby that’s not even developed yet. That doesn’t even have feelings or a brain yet. It’s just a tiny hint of life, not a fully classified human being yet. An embryo. And so now, they will have to face anxiety, depression, guilt, maybe even shame and ruin for the rest of their lives.
They don’t have a free choice. But America is supposed to be freedom for the people! And here you are, taking away futures. Taking away future doctors, lawyers and even presidents. Just to save a cell inside their stomachs. Just to make them risk their lives giving a painful birth that will destroy their bodies. No brain, no feelings and no heartbeat.
We need to know the wrongs in our world to stop them! To be able to protest against them! To be able to stand up for ourselves! So the older generations won't keep making votes that will ruin OUR futures.
Let’s look back at the first right for our states. Freedom of Speech. Huh, sound familiar to your bill? You want to take away protesting from the eyes of our future. From what can help them make the right decisions for our nation. So they can learn to lead. But no, you just want to raise mindless sheep that will bend to your will because they never had any exposure to what can help them break away.
This bill will ruin lives. It will break apart the nation into pieces like a glass window broken by a bullet. Because if this bill passes, I bet you this: suicide rates will go up. Depression rates: up. Without the comfort of people who you actually connect to, isolation will take over your feelings and it just leads you into a downward spiral.
Imagine you’re a 13 year old who just watched their entire future torn to shreds by a bill signed. You just took their voice away. Their rights away. Possibly their entire life away. Consider that.

Season 2 OFMD: Replace Prince Ricky with Benjamin Hornigold
Hear me out.
S2Ep1: Introduce Hornigold in disguise to Stede. Make 'Ben' an old trusty sea dog who still knows a bit too much about Stede Bonnet. Have Ben compliment Stede in the same way Ricky did. -HAVE STEDE TRUST HIM- Ben being an old pirate who misses the life, the adventure, the brutality. Make Stede sympathise with him.
Make him wear a shitty disguise at Jackies until he's caught near the end of the episode (and gets away), because DUH. That's Benjamin fucking Hornigold, Jackie fucking hates him(we see her shoot at him as he runs). Maybe have Jackie tell Stede he's dangerous, only for Stede to reply 'that's just an old man' and brush off her concern.
NEXT WE SEE HIM:
S2Ep3: ED'S DREAM SEQUENCE
It's finally revealed to the audience through Ed's dreams that the old man they left behind is the infamous turncoat Hornigold. Change the line about abandoning Ed's body at a beach, to at a port town, and the 'Ed was mutinied' lie can be told like how it was in ep 3. But now we as the audience can catch hints that Ben isn't acting right. Ed still sees him as the brutal pirate and not the old man Stede met a few episodes ago.
THEN(replacing Ricky's speech on that British ship):
Hornigold discusses how brutal pirate life is to the British sailors under his command. Focus on how best to hunt them down. We can even have another sailor remind Hornigold that he's a pirate hunter due to Ben's signing of the act of grace.
Him and Zheng on Zheng's ship: Keep the scene the same. Auntie points out that Ben betrayed his pirate crew to go serve the English. Have both captains talk about how pointless this all is, but make it clear that he's willing to negociate. Have Ben roll his eyes at the British's gifts(clocks), but say it's all a formality and they can 'sell them off if she wants'. Knowing that she won't have the time to in the next 24 hours and that this will be her ships downfall.
The Zheng and Stede Fight: I hate that she gives this whole speech about defeating idiot men, only to get defeated by Ricky- an actual idiot. From this scene on she's less 'Pirate Queen/Captain' and more 'badass side chick that fits in with the crew'. BUT in this write, she lost to a pirate legend. Who sold his crew out for his own freedom. She lost because she was outmaneuvered, and she SHOULD have known better. (seriously though, why did Zheng trust Ricky, he was a british fucking officer, GOD I hate that shit)
NOW THE FUCKING PAY OFF:
Hornigold captures the crew post ep 7. We can keep Stede and Zheng getting away. BUT HORNIGOLD AND IZZY INTERACTING? Izzy siting up and defending his family from a person from his past????
Look, we know Ed has been a pirate for at least 20 years (he's known Fang for 20 years), so there's a very good chance Ed and Izzy were together on his ship.
Let Izzy give the speech about crew being family, about how you sacrifice everything for your crew. Spitting in the face of the piracy Izzy himself once lived his life by. Of this dog eats dog world.
Also: Izzy would have absolutely searched Benjamin fucking Hornigold for weapons. Now. We can keep Ben killing Izzy, maybe he runs up and grabs a sailor's gun, I don't like it. (Izzy didn't need to die for the story to work) But at least NOW Izzy died to a man whose haunted his every life's decision. A person he said he would never be, and slowly did become through years of trying to survive. It's not a good ending, but now it has a bit more meaning than Ricky getting a lucky shot he didn't earn.
Make Ed furious over Izzy's body, but show him visibly holding back from getting revenge. That throwing himself back in won't fix Izzy. So he fixes himself. This also pays off the consequences of signing the Act of Grace. Showing that this might just be the end of piracy as Ed knows it if his former bastard Captain was willing to turn coat.
This also means a BIT more for Stede, as his blind trust in Ben in episode 1 meant a dangerous pirate got away. Maybe in episode 1 Stede tells Ben about Ed. About how worried he is his 'friend' has gone off the deep end. Ben of course, actively hunting down Blackbeard and doing anything to get to his old prodigy. Have Stede regret that his 'plan to sell off Hornigold to the English' got Izzy killed. Have Stede learn to hold his cards closer for next season, to be slower to trust people. This would be a better arc than 'stede learns to be an excellent captain for his family and gives it all up in the end as soon as he can get his dick wet'.
It's still REALLY shallow, and I don't like it. This season should have had a better villain than trying to introduce the possibility of Zheng hunting them down, Ned Low, AND the British. But now, at least it fits better thematically for Izzy and Ed's arcs as growing past the traditional pirate life and Stede for learning to control his ego, showing him that he STILL has a lot to learn.

Crosshair’s dialogue
I cannot overstate how important The Outpost was for me because we now have proof that Crosshair is someone who says things he doesn’t mean and that’s so so important. Which is why I’m going to talk about it.
“No point in carrying dead weight.”
“Remind me not to die on your watch.”
If there’s one thing we know about TBB it’s that plot heavy episodes (especially those relevant to the main story which we can safely categorize 12 as because of its ending and how pivotal Crosshair is to the show) it’s that they don’t waste time on frivolous dialogue. Even more so when it’s Crosshair’s dialogue given how taciturn he is as a character.
Now we all know how the episode ends and why the first line of dialogue is monumental here. But I’d also like to focus on Mayday’s response because it reminds us that most things Crosshair says, and that I’m going to reference here, are taken at face value.
We know that because Crosshair managed to provoke Rex enough to earn himself a punch. We also know that because his long speeches on Kamino convinced his brothers that he was fully committed to the Empire’s cause. Hold that thought for now.
Episode 12 shows us in a very non roundabout way that Crosshair will go to great lengths to ‘carry dead weight’ if that weight is a brother. That for all his remarks about regs and their disposability he cares enough to go through extreme hardship to try and save one and even avenge him with catastrophic consequences to himself.
But what if he’s only recently had a change of heart, you say, what if he literally changed his mind when Mayday pushed him out of the way to save him in the avalanche. That's certainly possible. Only we’ve seen this behavior with Crosshair before:
He says all those things about Echo and regs only for us to see a glimpse of him putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder. He implies that the batch will become his enemies if they refuse to join the Empire and then saves Omega and we’re given no indication that he’s reported their survival to the Empire.
All throughout the show we see instances of the writers trying to convey who Crosshair is, despite the things he says, through his actions and less obviously through symbolism and other more subtle means.
Which brings us back to Kamino.
How much of what Crosshair said on Kamino was the truth and not him posturing and deluding himself? How much of it was his usual bravado, the biting brutal cynical things that he keeps saying and people keep believing about him? How much of it was the refusal to show vulnerability and sympathy and just a damn defense mechanism?
You could see episode 12 as a sudden change of heart for him but I like to see it differently: to me episode 12 was a crescendo in the arc of a character that’s been slowly built up as someone who says cruel things and tries to convince himself of them (maybe even succeeds at points, because it’s easier that way, safer) but at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, his actions speak louder than his words.
Crosshair cornered himself into a situation where he had little choice. Obey or die. That’s something he carries responsibility for no matter what, even if we suppose everything he said on Kamino was a front and claim that the batch were wrong for taking it at face value.
Crosshair did have a choice on Kamino, he made that choice and it left him with two horrible options. And he opted to die (because what else can you expect when you do something as egregious as shooting a superior in cold blood) in the name of a brother.
Good soldiers follow orders but he spat in the name of that in one glorious moment of defiance. He called Lieutenant whatshisname just so he would turn and look him in the eye when he delivered the biggest ‘fuck you’ to the Empire.
Chip or no chip, change of heart or no, that’s one of the most bamf moments in Star Wars, period. And as with most things Crosshair, it was his actions that were speaking in that moment, not his words.

#Ranger Gathering 2023 is coming this June!
What is this?
Our very own Ranger Gathering is an event running during June. Every day has its own prompt which you’re free to respond to in whichever way possible, relating to Ranger’s Apprentice, The Early Years, The Royal Ranger and/or Brotherband.
Check out last year’s stuff here!
How does it work?
The prompts are being released early for those who wish to begin chipping away at some of them before June comes around. This is mostly for those who want to do as many as possible and would like to avoid burnout or may be busy in June, but either way, no one is obliged to do every or any prompt. We’re just here to have fun!
This prompt challenge is not just about making fanart or fanfic, however. You can post about whatever has been inspired by the prompt. This could be playlists, moodboards, memes, analysis, quotes, literally anything you have your heart set on. You are also free to talk about your headcanons, AUs and OCs if you want to.
If you wish to take part, tag your post with #ranger gathering 2023 so we can all find it! You may also choose to post on other platforms, just know that it might not be as monitored as here.
Other than that, there’s no real rules. You can do as many or as little of the prompts as you want. You can post wips or polished works, short or long word counts, lil doodles :’)) and rendered art, one song or a playlist etc.
I would just urge you to know your limits and your workflow and work accordingly. Burnout is brutal and pumping stuff out is not gonna be worth it. In the case of you really want to finish your work, you can just do it later it’s 100% okay 💖🍵
2023 links
• masterpost - i refer to this as the masterpost as it includes the prompts and rules. i write it here for your reference • #ranger gathering 2023 - this is where you will find everyone’s posts • AO3 (2023) - collection for this year’s fics if you so wish to use • AO3 (all) - parent collection

Fuck it. Dethklok's Love Languages.
DSR and AOTD spoilers!
Tumblr media
Nathan Explosion
Tumblr media
Nathan struggles to say "I love you" out loud. Anything that involves him directly admitting that he cares or that he's sorry is very difficult for him. He's fantastic at coming up with the most brutal, messed up lyrics, always finding the right words for the right songs, but voicing his feelings? That's hard. Every once in a while, it slips out - but more often than not, it happens when he's alone and the person in question isn't present. ("I liked him" after Dr. Twinkletits is attacked by the yard wolves, "Miss the little guy already" when collecting Toki's laundry after he leaves). He gets much better at it over time though; directly telling Murderface that he would risk his life for him in DSR, or apologizing to the fans and showing appreciation for them in AOTD for example.
While saying things out loud is hard for Nathan, he very obviously tends to show his affection in actions. Despite his "no caring" rule, he is definitely someone who cares. A lot. He cares so much that losing his bandmates makes its way into his nightmares. He cares so much that he's willing to break up with his girlfriend for the sake of his bandmates. He cares so much that he follows Skwisgaar to Sweden. His deep care towards his bandmates becomes more and more apparent the longer the series goes on, and in RSD and AOTD in particular, Nathan shows just how far he would go for his loved ones, completely surpassing his own expectations of himself and choosing to become "the hand" instead of the "the fist".
While he learns to communicate in words more often later on as well, Nathan's main love language is definitely Acts of Service. He goes all the way for the people he cares about and defends them with his life (quite literally). You may never hear him say "I love you to the moon and back" directly to you, but he will learn everything he can about you, help you with everything he can, take you to the doctor, hold your hand through difficult situations. Gifts are another big one, he tends to give expensive or meaningful gifts to the people he cares about, since it's probably easier than saying "I care" out loud.
Pickles the Drummer
Tumblr media
One thing about Pickles is that he remembers everything about you. That ice cream flavor you once mentioned you liked. Whether you like olives or not. Your favorite mineral water brand. If you're allergic to something or not. He does it effortlessly - it comes naturally to him when he cares about you. It's a surprise how he memorizes anything at all, considering how drunk/high he is most of the time, but when people are important to him, it just sticks right away. Another thing about him is that he's willing to respect potential triggers and try to protect you from seeing something that might upset you ("I'm not gonna stop drinking and doing drugs, but I'll do it where you can't see it"). He understands and respects mental health issues and does his best to be helpful.
Pickles is also often the one taking responsibility. The problem solver. The helper. When someone else fails at a task, he has no problem taking it over (ex. Nathan and Murderface both failing at the speech in Dethtroll). When Magnus is kicked out of the band, it's Pickles suggesting it's time to find another guitarist in RSD. Especially in Season 4 and AOTD, he's often in the role of the "parent", scolding his bandmembers for shitty behavior ("shame on you for bullying Toki over his diabetes!"), caring for Toki as he regresses in AOTD, cheering Nathan on more than anyone else when he doesn't believe in himself anymore, the list goes on and on. Can we also talk about him letting Skwisgaar and Murderface sleep in his bed with him in Dethcamp? Beautiful.
His main love language is also Acts of Service, as well as Words of Affirmation. Pickles is great at talking you out of your hopelessness and reminding you of your good qualities, as well as what you're fighting for. He wants to take care of whatever is upsetting the people he cares about. He wants to get rid of whatever hindrance there is himself. Pickles takes control to make life a bit easier for you and tells you how well you're doing in the same breath. If you ever have a panic attack around him, he will ground you to his best ability - better than any of the other Dethklok members probably, too. He's incredibly understanding and supportive towards the people he cares for.
William Murderface
Tumblr media
Murderface sometimes gets a bit too close to his bandmates, putting his hands on their shoulders and backs, reaching for their hands... the same goes for other people. Sometimes strangers. He leans over them, gets all the way into their faces. He does know boundaries, that's not it. He also knows that he's crossing them at times. But William is the type of guy who absolutely cannot say "I love you". William can't even say "I like you". The best thing he can say is "I don't hate you". He was raised harshly, treated harshly, and the one thing he craves more than anything else is Physical Touch. Murderface firmly believes that caring for someone involves wanting to be near them. It's not something he would say out loud to anyone, but his idea of affection is holding hands, leaning against each other, hugging. He's very, very touch starved and very, very sexually frustrated. Someone just cupping his cheek would probably catch him off guard. His harsh facade would melt away entirely, even if just for a second before he asks you what the fuck you're doing.
Since most people react negatively to his touch, Murderface often resorts to Quality Time. Especially with Toki, Knubbler and sometimes Skwisgaar. He's often seen hanging out with them in particular, obviously choosing to spend several hours with them, and only them. Even if nothing eventful happens, it seems he's just happy being with them (even if he doesn't visibly show it). When he tries to get someone to have sex with him, he spends a lot of time preparing himself, even showing up in a suit with flowers for the special moment. It seems that giving undivided attention to the people he cares about is a way for him to show his appreciation. He's happy watching movies and eating with his bandmates, and isolates himself from them as a "punishment" in AOTD because he feels undeserving of them. Even the stranger who hypnotizes him in DSR shakes his hand in order to gain his trust more easily.
Murderface is often seen softening up when someone touches him and gives him Words of Affirmation (ex. in DSR when he's like "You wouldn't save me if I was the one kidnapped", but the moment Nathan puts his hand on his shoulder and says he'd risk his life for him, his entire body language immediately changes. Similar in AOTD, when he speaks negatively about himself, his tone changes once his shoulder is touched and he's reassured that he has a role in the band). Especially in the first season, he often makes negative remarks about himself and takes drastic measures such as wanting to leave, in an attempt to receive nice comments and attention from his bandmates. He needs a lot of reassurance in general.
Skwisgaar Skwigelf
Tumblr media
Skwisgaar is well known for two things - the guitar playing, and the sex. You'd expect his love language to be physical touch, considering just how much sex he has, but he actually doesn't seem to enjoy being touched in a non sexual scenario (directly telling mostly Toki not to touch him many, many times throughout the series). It's kind of difficult to pinpoint exactly what love language defines his behavior, because Skwisgaar tends to close himself off emotionally. He seems to view himself as "above" other people - or below them as well at times. But something's for certain: He's extremely observant. He remembers many things his bandmates tell him, very personal and intimate details at times (ex. Toki's triggers). He's the first and only one to notice Murderface's strange behavior in AOTD. He knows a lot of things, but doesn't speak about them very much. This guy can keep a secret or two. He'd probably help you hide a body if you asked him nicely.
In a way, that makes his main love language Acts of Service. He discretely keeps an eye on his bandmates and observes them from a distance, so he's the first to know when something isn't right. He shows concern for his bandmates when they display new or different behaviors (ex. Toki's excessive drinking, hanging out with Rockzo, Murderface in AOTD...) and expresses this to the others. Whenever he's having sex with someone, he shows concern for their wellbeing ("lets me know if I tickles you", "lady you so skinny you look sick"), and he lets his hookups stay in his bed and sleep with him until they're ready to leave. He treats them with respect. He treats them like people. They're not just objects for his pleasure.
Though Skwisgaar appears emotionally constipated at times, he is anything but. He comes across as harsh and insensitive a lot of the time, but he honestly just doesn't have a filter. Plus, it needs to get out. What he doesn't express verbally, his body expresses for him. For example, he gets physically sick whenever his mother is around, he subconsciously stims with his guitar when he's in pain or upset... You might not hear him say "I love you" out loud, like, very often if at all. But he will stim more if you bring up that other guy you've been spending a lot of time with. He noticed you talking in your sleep more often, what's up with that? Also, when's the last time you've eaten?
Toki Wartooth
Tumblr media
Right away: Physical Touch. Toki craves hugs, hand holding and the like more obviously than any other Dethklok member. Much like Murderface, he never received any proper affection as a child, and heavily associates physical softness and tenderness with being appreciated. He reaches out to his bandmates for hugs several times (especially Skwisgaar who he greatly admires), is very affectionate with his cat, and even when he's being playful or messing with the others, he's punching them, nudging them, getting close to them in any way. He craves meaningful connections with people, and even just in his daydreams about them, he's holding their hands a lot, or reaching out to them. Even Magnus has his arm around him in Dethcamp - and Toki has a wide smile on his face. He clings to Abigail for comfort in DSR, and she holds him close as he drifts off to his much deserved sleep. This is the easiest way for Toki to understand that he's cared for. Being held. And holding others (ex. picking up and carrying Skwisgaar in AOTD).
Another one is Gift Giving. A rare one, but it definitely is the case for him. He makes Murderface his Macaroni Murder Lady for his birthday, even though he's already getting a huge gift from the entire band. He happily gives his breakfast to a hungover Pickles in Mordland. The snowglobe that Nathan gives him before he's off to to the camp is something he holds very dear and treasures a lot. The tuning device Skwisgaar gives him in AOTD? He carries it around with him everywhere. There are probably more moments, but these are the ones I remember on top of my head. Gifts are very meaningful to him, and a way for him to express his care for the people he loves - and remember that he's cared for as well.
Toki is generally very open and direct with his feelings. I think he could adapt to any love language, really. He appreciates any form of affection towards him. But Physical Touch in particular is something he holds very dear. The one thing he really struggles with is when someone won't let him touch them. Maybe he could adapt to it if it was explained to him that it's not personal rejection, but it would take him some time to stop trying to initiate hugs and cuddles. Then, Words of Affirmation are very, very much needed. Of course he appreciates Acts of Service and Quality Time as well, but he doesn't read those as "love" very well. He needs to feel or hear it.
Bonus: Magnus Hammersmith
Tumblr media
I can honestly only theorize about Magnus, since he's simply not shown often enough throughout the series - or in a very positive light. But from what I've gathered, I personally believe that he, very much like Pickles, likes to take the lead. He's a "fixer" and a "protector", though Magnus is much more forceful about it. He believes that everyone has to do exactly as he says, because his way is the best way for everyone involved. It upsets him when someone doesn't let him "fix" or "handle" something, because it feels like personal rejection to him. His love language is Acts of Service, in a twisted, messed up way. But also... Words of Affirmation. His way of showing that he cares is to take the wheel, to fix his loved ones' lives (whether they want it or not), but his way of feeling loved is to hear it. A simple "thank you for your advice" is often enough to satisfy him, even if you don't end up actually taking it. He immediately softens up when you let him know that his input is appreciated, and that you know he cares. When you say "I love you" to him, he is so taken aback that he doesn't know how to respond. Definitely not with "I love you too", but probably by giving you the bigger half of his cookie.

Alright, since my previous post about Vulpes was so positively perceived, heres a long post going more into detail about how I genuinely believe all members of Caesar’s Legion to be representative of real life romans.
I mean obviously a lot of named legionaries dont have a backstory in-game or are even mentioned outside of you interacting with them, but some of them, like Lucius, Aurelius, Vulpes, Lanius and (obviously) Caesar himself, are very similar to some actual real life people.
Like for example I’m gonna start with Aurelius. Yes there was in fact a roman leader called Aurelius, but Marcus Aurelius has not that many similarities with our in game character. Sure in a way he is helping Caesar rule, but as we can all tell and see Edward doesnt have a triumvirate. However, Aurelius is in a way similar to Octavian Augustus, the way he is put to sort of mirror how Caesar(Edward Sallow) rules, but on a smaller scale. (also, he looks very very similar to Octavian Augustus)
(I will take a moment to apologise because I am very barely educated on Sulla so, if anyone was hoping for an in depth analysis of Lucius, im sorry. However their identical names and even their facial features are similar too)
Lanius too has similarities to roman leaders like Nero and war tactician Hannibal, with his brutal and extremist approach of handling things. He also is similar to Nero since even if he didnt get chosen at random, people still regretted their decision to have him as a leader in one way or another.
And of course, Vulpes. He too was raised and praised by a man named Caesar. Told he was part of his family he doesn’t have, grew up around him and learned everything he knows from him. But the stoicism and sort of indifference he shows after Caesar dies(if you botch the surgery) has lead me to believe that he never fully cared. Yes sure I’m not here to only defend Vulpes’ actions and say he did no wrong. But it is very obvious that Caesar never treated him well, never showed him what he expected out of him. Vulpes has only been given orders to kill and to pillage since he was a child. And hate this man all you would like, people are still people.
In more ways than the way he was brought up is he similar to Brutus, he obviously cannot kill Caesar because killing him would have him exiled, and clearly he cares about the Legion so that would be a bad idea. So he waits and when you finally kill him, you can even see a tonal shift in his speech, the words he uses, he is obviously relieved to some extent. I dont think I’m just stating the obvious right now, so if you didn’t understand what I was getting at, thats fine. But I really do see Brutus in Vulpes, always have, even the way their names sound, even the way they both look, and I’m talking about the Vulpes depiction with white hair, he has a haircut similar to how the romans would wear it.
In conclusion, why do I think Brutus and Vulpes are so very similar? Because they both want to get rid of a man named Caesar and they both don’t want to do it to become leader instead.

Hazbin Hotel thoughts : Foils 2
(Foils 1 here)
(Foils 3 here)
(Foils 4 here)
Masterpost here.
Crawling back out of my cave because my stupid brain won't let me rest. Synapses fired all night yesterday, I'm sure there's some structural damage in the front lobe from all the fireworks going off and bouncing around the walls of my skull, but mostly color me impressed that my asocial side actually got cowed into submission, by PRODUCTIVITY of all things, holy shit, why can't it happen for job interviews ?
...Anyway.
Aaaand without transition I would like to talk about Rosie VS Carmilla (I'm putting a "VS" so that it's clearer from a couple/team, see Foils 1), especially around Ep 7, which has just this magnificent parallel between them, respectively coaching Charlie and Vaggie (yes, TV Tropes already covered that one, shhhh, don't tell my spark of productivity, it might disappear and play dead for months again). For the A plot, we have Charlie, led by Alastor, who's going to Cannibal Town to meet Rosie and ask for reinforcements - basically getting an army of cannibals to lend a hand, even if it's not theirs and has some bite marks on it. For the B plot, on the other side, Vaggie goes to Carmilla to learn how angels can be killed, and from that on asking her for the appropriate weapons. On both sides, the two girls learn about confidence and fighting for the right thing - Charlie grows into the leader she's capable of being, Vaggie steels her resolve and grows her wings back.
What's interesting about those parallel scenes is how much Rosie and Carmilla contrast each other, and are similar to Charlie and Vaggie respectively yet have differences : again, a square of foils. But let's talk about the (seemingly) older women first.
When we stumble upon Cannibal Town, it has a very gentlemanly aesthetic, streets are clean, people are well-dressed and polite, and if you forget the minor detail of cough eating people cough, they are quite the amicable bunch - something Charlie herself comments on, how "surprisingly nice" it is. The second we meet Rosie, we understand why : she's a councelor, the unofficial mayor and of course the Overlord representing them all. She's a faultless host (again, if you don't care much about her specific ingredients), very accomodating, and doesn't rebut Charlie right away despite her enormous demand. In fact, once Alastor chimes in that her citizens would be not only well-armed but also well-fed, she's happy to give it a go and coach Charlie on how to convince them (well, for the most part. Susan.), showing she knows her community very well. Rosie is shown as more of a knowledge broker : she trades information to Alastor in exchange of favors, seems to know things about him that even our deer friend doesn't ("A what now ?" *Pats your shoulder in ace, buddy. You'll get the hang of it.*), and overall comes off as very well-informed.
In the meantime, we follow Vaggie to the industrial side of the Pentagram, where it seems to be more smoke, steel and craft than rural, pictoresque town. Carmilla doesn't let Vaggie enter until she threatens to spill the beans out in plain view of the street, and once she's inside, Carmilla is immediately verbally hostile and commandeering the whole speech ("Ninety seconds."), rebutting each of Vaggie's claims with clinical precision - rightfully countering that she doesn't want to bring the trouble to her doorstep, and put her loved ones (+ workers) in danger, to which Vaggie counters (also rightfully) that if the Hotel fails to defend itself, Carmilla might still kiss her pointy shoes goodbye. Once the time is up, Carmilla attacks, but it's quickly blatant that she's actually stealthily coaching Vaggie into fighting better, both physically and mentally. She's ruthless, brutal, and elegant, but not with the same elegance as Rosie : Rosie's charm and mannierisms are day-to-day, yet she's a proud cannibal, so her elegance hides a very carnal nature by the way of eating human flesh (even if she wraps it in pretty ribbons in a candy box), while Carmilla's cold and sharp demeanor hides her graceful but efficient fighting style - I mean, have you seen those twirls and acrobatics ? Hot dang, she's cool. Rosie is a knowledge broker that knows damn well how to use her information, Carmilla is a weapons dealer that knows damn well how to use her weapons : no wonder she arms herself (and her daughters) first. Carmilla, on the surface, rejects Vaggie's deal, but after a few moments, we see that she's turning it into her own way of helping.
Now we arrive to the two main songs, Out For Love and Ready For This, who are almost back-to-back. Charlie has had her moment with Rosie, who genuinely helped her through her personal problems and her moment of uncertainty concerning Vaggie's secret, and it's time for the big rallying song. And, Charlie, you're cute and all, but sightseeing and camaraderie aren't the things cannibals are interested in - they might have a child's heart (somewhere in a jar behind a desk), but EATING is where it's at ! Good thing Alastor chimed in, hm ? Which kinda rebounds on his private part of the song with Rosie ("Stick with her, you'll be on the winning side !") : their motivations are more selfish than we think. Rosie is genuinely kind and empathetic, but not altruist : doing the Princess of Hell a solid might be a real advantage in the long run, especially for someone like her who trades in favors. On the other side, Carmilla has it out for her own reasons right away, but does a selfless move by teaching Vaggie and lending the weapons : while she doesn't directly stick her neck out, she still helps from the shadows. Her main motive is to protect her loved ones and avoid bloodshed, while Rosie's and the cannibals are to get their belly full and gain political advantage.
It's really like an hourglass between the two : Rosie hears Charlie (and Alastor) out and accepts to help but actually for selfish reason, actively and directly helping Charlie to assert herself, talking her through therapy and words - a language Charlie is very receptive to - teaching her confidence and leadership (something Vaggie already has). Carmilla on her side rebukes Vaggie but actually for more selfless (even if personal) reasons, indirectly (but still actively) helps her to rekindle with her own emotions and be honest with herself (something Charlie already is), all that through physical training and fighting - a language Vaggie knows quite well. You'd think they have the names of the songs crossed and mixed up, yet they fit perfectly : Charlie needs to be Ready For This and finally face physical confrontation, while Vaggie needs to be Out For Love and honest with her feelings and past. They both complement each other.
The smiles Carmilla and Rosie also give at the news are contrasting : Carmilla hears the news and smiles a little smile, to herself, looking proud that it worked, and proud of her 'student'. Rosie on her side has a charming, calculated, wide smile that seems to spell out 'now there we go' and 'ooh, this was nothing, darling' more than 'good job', complete with a cup of tea. It's like she smiles more at the camera than out of genuine pride, unlike Carmilla who just smiles to herself. You'd think tough-as-nails Carmilla would be the last person to teach people to fight for love, yet here we are, while ladylike elegant Rosie, who does show genuine understanding and kindness, is also planning to use Charlie for her own gain.
Wrapping this up, Charlie & Vaggie VS Carmilla & Rosie : Carmilla is kind of a more experienced version of Vaggie (a figther, determined, devoted to her loved ones), with Charlie's core ideas (love, compassion, avoiding fights) while Rosie is a more experienced version of Charlie (connections, empathy, people person) with Vaggie's way of thinking (strategic, knowledgeable, prepared).
Like Vaggie, Carmilla is a fierce fighter that you don't want to piss off, with people to protect, an expert in dealing with weapons (cherry on top : both about angelic steel), even physically they're quite alike : long white hair (especially when Carmilla lets hers go in response to Vaggie's grumbling), similar tone of skin, palette in dark grays and white mostly (Vaggie has more pink where Carmilla has black), both are also Hispanic. They already (unknowingly) share a duet in Whatever It Takes, with personal reasons very close to one another. Carmilla is the perfect combination of Charlie's ideals and Vaggie's realism, leaning more towards Vaggie's side as a fighter. They also look the less relatively demonic, past some features (like Carmilla's oversized arms).
Rosie on her side looks like an upper-class lady who is the leader of her town and an Overlord (mirroring Charlie being a princess and the founder of the Hotel), sharing some reds in their respective palettes (even if Charlie's is more solid red and Rosie's burgundy), pale hair and a very affable, accomodating demeanor. Rosie is the perfect mix of Vaggie's pragmatism and Charlie's kindness, leaning towards Charlie's side as an informator and councelor. They naturally stand in the spotlight, one way or another, and guide people through their problems. They're also both more "demonic" : Charlie is the literal Princess of Hell and hellborn demon, while Rosie has notable very sharp teeth, pitch black eyes (like the town citizens) and... what was it again...? oh right ! Eats people.
(Don't worry, I'm not always a smartass : sometimes I'm asleep.)
That went longer than expected (...as always), but, well, enjoy. Skyscrapers like those are useful when you have time to kill. I might need to consider doing a masterpost for those... might be more practical for those crazy enough to want to read all of my inane rambling (boredom is such a pain, right ?)
Hope you enjoyed.
Again, Masterpost here.

Has anyone asked for the commentary for the latest Ctb chapter yet? 👀👀👀
Tumblr media
Originally, everything from Link’s conversation with Impa to Link finally leaving for Kakariko was going to be at the end of the last chapter; but as you may recall, I ended up punting it over to this one in a waterfall effect from having to deal with a different delayed scene in the last section.
Good news is that on all fronts, the pacing is finally back on schedule. Mostly. There’s a scene in the present day that I’ve kicked off to a later chapter, but we’ll get to that when we get to that.
Something I wasn’t able to quite talk about last chapter was why exactly I wanted this incident to be Link’s wake-up call; I wanted Link’s turning point to evolve around him realizing that his way of being a hero is messed up, not only for failing to save Kat but by being told that, politically, he saved the wrong person
Which will then tie into HOW Link saved her. I wanted Link to undoubtedly do the right thing, but I wanted his solution to be so extreme that it’s horrifying. Yes, he saved Kat. But he also brutally murdered three men-- and wanted to make them suffer in the process. Link can’t solve anything without taking extremes. These men have nothing redeemable to them, but in the context of Link’s history, I just wanted readers to sit there and go “huh” for at least a minute. Maybe two.
As previously posted, the men’s names were based off of things that have given me brain worms as of late.
This chapter made me realize that I really haven’t done enough with Impa; I’ve been relying too heavily on just telling you how Warriors feels as opposed to having her do things. Incredible work on my part. I will rectify that however I can.
Speaking of which, Impa’s speech about becoming your role was originally going to include some extra information about her history with Lincoln before she became Impa, but I ended up cutting it because it was just an awkward time to go over that info; I hope there will be a time I can include it later, but it’s not super pressing or relevant so don’t get your hopes up.
As previously mentioned, Kat’s disability is Broca’s Aphasia
I remember when I was finalizing Kat and Icarius’s characters, I wondered if anyone was going to think there’s a thematic meaning to so many characters losing the ability to communicate; whatever is there is unintentional on my part, but whatever meaning you derive is still valid
Also, out of everyone, Kat is the character I feel the worst about hurting.
And for everyone wondering: Kat was knocked out when she was first bludgeoned. She was not awake when the men were killed. I am both touched and somewhat caught in disbelief that so many of you were worried about this.
When writing the introductory imagery for Kakariko-- describing the streets, people, etc--I was really worried that I was just retreading information that I already gave you all; but it’s also been, like, two years since the first Kakariko chapter came out, so I figured it was worth revisiting.
Hello, Jakucho! It’s been so long since she was in the story that I forgot how fun she is to write. She really brings an incredible energy to the mix.
I’m trying to remember where exactly I got the idea for Link having to build his own house, especially since this is probably among the first ideas I had for the story. I think I came up with the idea of the house first and my brain immediately said, “Fine, but he built it while going through withdrawals.” O.K. Sounds cool.
When I was writing the chapter, I didn’t like how I introduced Ayane. I got really hung up on the idea that she deserved something grander. Looking back at it now, I think it’s perfect. I’m glad I didn’t change it.
There’s this through line I’ve been trying to maintain this entire story about Link feeling stuck in his role as a soldier, how inadequate he feels for not knowing a tradeskill (or really any skill outside of war-waging), and how jealous he is that Spirit can build nearly anything-- and this is the chapter where I finally feel the payoff of all those ideas.
I hadn’t watched Vinland Saga when I finalized this idea, but now that I have watched it, do you know what this chapter is giving? Thorfinn emotionally healing via a farm arc. Go read Vinland Saga. It’s better than anything I can do.
However, I did mean for that ending to be a little bit more ominous than it turned out. Sure, Link is deciding to move on and be happier, but he is doing so by ignoring all the things he has done. Surely, this isn’t going to bite him in the butt.
Now that all of the war stuff is over, the story is now shifting towards a Link homesteading plotline, which will hopefully be as interesting, if not more. It’s definitely going to be harder to write, if only because now I have to take Link and show how he becomes Warriors.
Speaking of which.... onto the present day--
That opening scene where they’re escaping from the Sheikah by running across the rope bridge? That was a certified Pain In The Neck to write. I wrote about three different versions before finding one I thought was half-way decent. Why? I kept getting too elaborate with it and the scene kept running away from me.
A part of the reason why that scene was such a pain is that it originally wasn’t going to happen! The last chapter was supposed to have a little transition scene about having to sneak away from the Sheikah before ending with the scene where Spirit helps Warriors with his arm.
But with the canoodling scene kicked over to this chapter, I figured it was about time I began paying off the whole We’re Being Hunted Down By the Sheikah thing.
The hard march stuff then effectively ruined my original concept for the chapter: a series of scene where Spirit interacts one on one with each member of the Chain, to varying degrees of success. That got tossed out the window and never returned.
But I think it was worth it? I like the hard marching stuff, and it helps with the blend the deep dark atmospheric stuff with the reunited Chain being absolute bozos
And I have missed all of the shenanigans. The exchange at the beginning where Warriors gets sarcastic about being told not to let go is very silly, but I like it. It makes me laugh.
Speaking of which, I have decided that I am a big fan of Spirit’s whip. That’s all. Just wanted to put that into the world.
Okay, let’s hop back to the canoodling stuff.
So that scene was what was supposed to be at the end of the previous chapter, if only to give you all the two-punch Spirit What The Fuck moments. Pacing-wise, the scene also acts as set-up for the house drama. Putting it at the end of last chapter would have made it seem like that plot point was more established.
Also, another shout-out to Legend for being the character who is constantly surprising me with how fun he is to write. I’m not a big fan of him normally, so I always end up forgetting this until I get to write him again. Then again, I am also convinced that Legend is at his best when he’s a member of the supporting cast. He’s not main character material.
And you guys have finally bullied me enough to convince me to make DILF Hunter Hyrule canon. You can’t say I don’t do anything for you guys.
Four and Spirit not having a good relationship just feels correct. Even if Spirit was capable of not fumbling a social interaction for more than 10 minutes, I still think these two would not like each other very much. We might be able to get them to coworkers status, but that’s if we’re lucky.
I finally got to do this scene with Warriors and Lana! Thank god! I think Lana scenes are among the first to get cut any time I need to make space, and this one has been getting pushed back for a awhile now. It’s good to finally get them to talk, if only to wrap up that little subplot about Warriors’s shittiness towards her while scratching the surface of my Sad Girl Lana agenda.
Actually, this chapter did so well with the Lana and Linkle content that I feel bad that Midna got barely anything to do. Granted, her big moment where Twilight is seeking comfort from her is one of my favorites. So actually, Midna stays winning.
The scene where Spirit equates dead monsters to dead people is the spiritual successor to that scene way back in the past when he and Link had their big fight. I mean, that’s obvious.
A lot of readers seemed really surprised when Spirit was ruthless on the battlefield during Twilight’s rescue, and I want this scene to help remind everyone that Spirit kills people as easily as he kills monsters because, to him, they aren’t different. That’s still shocking, but it’s not because Spirit is uniquely cruel.
The song that Spirit plays is the Song of Birds from his game, which functionally just summons a flock of birds. You need it to solve, like, one puzzle. I have decided that it’s actually an essential part of Lokomo burial rites.
I regret giving Hyrule the line about understanding Spirit better. On one hand, I do think this would be a reason Hyrule would soften towards him. On the other, Hyrule was not on the battlefield when Spirit was being a ruthless soldier. What is there for him to understand better?
Legend’s game is a silly scene I have been trying to include in this story for so long, if only to give Spirit a moment to explain in-story how his senses work (and to have an allergic reaction towards Legend). I am trying so hard to drive home that Spirit’s abilities are only the senses. This guy does not have any other weird magic about him. He just knows extra information about people.
Also, Wind robbing Spirit is extra funny when you remember that Spirit probably sensed him nearby and still somehow did not realize he was being pickpocketed.
I think the things Spirit senses off of the boys are fairly obvious, except for Wild-- that water stuck in the nose feeling refers to Wild being submerged in the Shrine of Resurrection
I feel bad that I keep giving Wind more problems to deal with, but unfortunately, head trauma causes so many lasting conditions. I haven’t even really milked his newfound half-deafness yet.
Also, thank you once more for everyone who gave me additional information on how signing with one hand works! You’re all the bomb!
The most painful cut this chapter was a scene where Spirit met Kat again. It's still gonna happen somehow, but the logistics didn't quite work (they're supposed to be on the run... what are they doing with meemaw???) and I just needed to focus on other things. It's such a shame, though. We almost had a perfect cohesive past and present chapter combo.
Initially, I was going to leave Toto in the well until the end of the story. He would act as extra motivation for Warriors to basically fix Hyrule-- if he doesn’t, Toto doesn’t go free. Then at least one person asked that he be rescued, and I crumbled.
Also, if I did my job right, this is the first time in the present day that Anders’s name is said out loud!
So you can probably guess that if I was willing to take as much time as needed to write the rest of CTB, I would have given saving Toto and burning the house down its own chapter. I’m not great at pacing (see: the fact that I wrote a whole chapter about characters traveling instead of skimming over that shit), but I figured I would take the risk and see if I could get away with having both off screen.
Was it effective? In some ways, yes. I think the shock when Warriors finds out is effective.
What really makes my cutting corners work is that Warriors got to do something else that was really important instead, which is talking with Icarius.
(By the way, I know most of you are doing a bit about being hardcore Warriors/Icarius shippers. But the few of you who are genuine, I need you all to wait until I actually show what the relationship is like before committing, if only because this is something I of all people would be writing).
What isn’t effective is how Cia’s drawing was meant to foreshadow the house burning. I always thought of it as a minor detail akin to Cia’s warnings while she was in the bush, but a lot of you clung to it like it was going to hold the key to final climax of the narrative. That’s probably my fault. Oops.
But Warriors and Spirit fighting... perfect. Love that scene. Honestly, I missed their violence.
But my god. Getting to elaborate on the house and how it's filled with his mother's things at the start of the chapter before having it ripped away? Priceless. Perfect. I am patting myself on the back for that one.
I kinda hate that Warriors and Wind moment. It’s good and everything I like until after Wind offers up his earring. I didn’t know where else to take the scene, but I didn’t want to end it there. What I ended up writing is just really cliche, and I really wish I gave myself more time to redo it.
And finally, that ending scene. Oh boy. Your honor, something is going on. If you guys are this stressed by a little cuddling, I cannot wait to see how next chapter is going to mess you up (pending on whether I chicken out or not)
Once more, I have to point out how insane everyone’s takes are making me. No one, and I mean no one, is on the same page about whatever is going on between Warriors and Spirit. There is no consensus. It’s driving me to insanity. I am still pushing myself to embrace different interpretations and to not view personal takeaways as a failing of the story.
But the more space I give everyone to draw their own conclusions, the more I get worried about alienating a reader, or writing a story with an ending that one person likes and everyone else hates.
But, again, this is a practice in ambiguity. Part of this story’s draw is how so many people are reading the same scenes and characters, and walking away with different perspectives. As nervous as it makes me, I love it.

Going on a trip down memory lane in honor of the WOH concert's 2nd anniversary!
When May 3 rolled around everyone had mixed feelings because on one hand: YAY LLD REUNITING ON STAGE WITH THE REST OF THE GREMLIN CAST! but on the other, farewell concerts mean the end of the show's promotion period which also marks the end of interactions between the main actors. And worse, it also marks the start of CP breaking, whether it's just the actors being more distant and reserved with each other throughout the concert (compared to when they were promoting the show) or in the worst cases, like the Love and Redemption concert, where they broke CP so brutally.
But the worst of all (for me at least) is the gloating. The gloating of solo fans, the gloating of the fans of other CPs, and the ever insufferable presence of yxh accounts that have been trying (and failing) to make up conflict between GJ and ZZH the very moment the show started getting the tiniest bit of attention. When it was announced that their Tom Ford livestream was to be done separately, it was made a big deal with all those vultures screaming all over weibo how they were finally "competing with each other", and yxhs fanning the flames at the sidelines.
So when the concert rolled around the atmosphere in the fandom was bittersweet. The more experienced fans were telling us what to expect and going: "They'll probably break CP. There's nothing we can do except hope they'll do it gently".
But as we've learned before, the WOH fandom is a circus and the WOH cast our ever indulgent clowns. Fans found out that GJ and ZZH were sharing a dressing room for the concert and everyone lost their shit. And that's when we knew we were fools to think this farewell concert would be like every other farewell concert, because nothing about this fandom has been normal from the start 😂
Tumblr media
In private, a lot of us were gearing each other up for the very strong possibility that GJ and ZZH will nowhere be as close in the concert as they seemed to be when they were promoting WOH. Turns out, not only did they seem even closer and more touchy than before, but the rest of the cast seemed to have finally snapped and lost their marbles altogether. Solo fansites were whining about how hard it was to get good solo photos of GJ and ZZH because they stuck close to each other throughout the entire event.
Tumblr media
Even better, they didn't seem conscious of the attention at all. The crowd in the concert hall screamed at the smallest interactions between them and they didn't even look fazed. I wouldn't have blamed them if the screaming made them feel awkward and conscious, but the fact that they just didn't care and even occasionally played along with the hoard of screaming shippers just made me appreciate them even more for being so natural about it and not treating it as something to be ashamed of.
And going beyond showing it with actions, ZZH also verbally acknowledged the fans that like both of them in his speech at the end of the concert. It's often said in CN fan circles that being a CPF from a BL drama is the hardest road to take as a fan (in c-ent at least) because it puts you at the very bottom of the fan heirarchy. CPFs in general are at the very bottom of the fan pyramid but BL CPFs in particular are considered to be even lower. It's a given not to mention you or acknowledge you, and you should only exist in the very fringes of fandom. That's why a lot of BL novel fans (I'm talking about c-fandom specifically) don't really like live action adaptations or their actors, because to them these actors are just using the stories they love to gain popularity, and once they get what they want are quick to toss it and its fans aside as some kind of dark and shameful secret of the past that has to be buried. That's why ZZH's acknowledgement at the end of the concert meant a lot to CPFs, because finally, they get to have a 'seat' at the table along with everyone else.
And of course, the promise and the hug that melted even the most jaded c-fandom veterans 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was really a privilege to be allowed to witness this moment. They could have taken the easier path but chose instead to share this moment with us. It truly was amazing to see them hug and firmly cement their relationship (whatever it may be) in front of thousands of people (with many more watching through the stream) when the norm in the industry is to break CP at this point.
And boy did they mean it. Months after the end of the concert, they were still stubbornly expressing a sense of unity and support for each other. At a time when toxic ZZH fans were really ramping up their attacks against GJ, ZZH pinned his and GJ's duet on his weibo page not only once, but twice. When the livestream host refused to read out a fan's username that had ZZH's name on it, GJ bluntly asked her to read it out loud, saying that censoring it out "isn't polite".
And you gotta wonder if that's part of what all this is about. Since February 2021, there have been many attempts to discredit the close relationship between them and not only has it not stopped, it has gotten much worse. ZZH is no longer in the picture (publicly, at least) but they're still at it and their tactics growing more and more brutal and unhinged the more time passes. In the beginning, ZZH was the evil one who forced poor innocent GJ to do CP marketing with him, and now GJ is somehow an evil mastermind who used ZZH to do CP marketing against his will and crushing him after. Just what is this obsession? It's been almost two years now, ZZH is out of the public eye, his career halted indefinitely, and they're still at it. I'm sure there's more to it but I can't help but feel that part of the reason for all this is because in an industry that rewards the people who are willing to pull off the dirtiest tactics, and encourages the worst kind of competition, GJ and ZZH dared to to treat each other with so much sincerity and kindness.
And just so this post doesn't end on an angsty note, remember when after the concert people were crying and hugging each other, having mental and emotional breakdowns, only to see, about an hour later, videos of GJ and ZZH laughing and giggling onstage, whispering in each other's ear, and then singing "Love to fight if you want to win" together like a pair of newlyweds? Yeah. While the rest of us peons were crying our hearts out, those two were busy treating the concert afterparty like a wedding banquet. Truly the life of an NPC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, before I become too emo and write five more paragraphs, I just want to say that even if I'm no longer posting as much about them, I'm always still here waiting.

in a scenario where Eggabell went back to town, could I request something with the reader getting a lil hurt ( nothing too serious ) and having to visit Eggabell who’s just like “you’ve gotta stop being so wreckless”?
A/N: I actually did this with one of my ocs a bit back. Never publicly posted it though, but this was nice to revisit! Hope you don’t mind a pinch of angst though ^^’
Eggabell and Reader (Reckless)
“You are the reason I wish I brought acholol on this expedition.”
“Damn??? Brutal, Eggabell.” You gasp dramatically, swooning with your free arm. This ends quickly when the sting from the peroxide stings the cuts on your other arm, making you hiss. Eggabell scoffed.
“It’s not even that bad.” She dismissed, and you resisted the urge to state that doctors were supposed to care about patients' health, and not brush off their pain. But also you didn’t want to get kicked out of the medical tent.
“How did you even manage this?” She asks. You shrug. What had happened was nothing more than a bad run-in with a Spuddy on a cliff, sending you tumbling off and rolling down. Thankfully, Triffany was there to find you and even more thankfully, Eggabell had returned from her apparent escapade to find a sign of Lizbert. Which thank Grump. Not for you, but the Journalist who had kinda taken Lizbert’s place, who got hurt daily.
“Bad luck.” Is the response you settle on. Eggabell groans.
“You have got to stop being so reckless, you know that?!” The doctor retorts, having moved onto bandaging cuts on your thighs. “You could of avoided that entire mess had you been more careful.”
You clicked your teeth. You never did like doctors that much. “Doc, with all due respect, I’m fine. It’s just a stupid few cuts from a stupid fall.”
“It wasn’t stupid! Do you know how easy it is to perish from that height?!”
“But I didn’t, so you can take your opinions and shove up your-”
Eggabell slammed the table, growling slightly. “Would you just listen?! Heights are nothing to play with! What if one of your bones broke, I wouldn’t even know if we had away to fix that properly. O-or if you had straight gotten buried in the snow? We wouldn’t have found you for ages!”
“Eggabell-“ You sputtered, surprised at her outburst. But she didn’t even let you finish.
“What if there was someone with you? W-what if you were messing around in the mountain a-and it led to someone’s death! And no matter how hard you try, you can’t find even a trace of them! What if their death was all your fault!”
Silence washes over the tent as Eggabell pants, lungs more strained than her voice towards the end. You must look as shocked and afraid as you feel because she blinks with a startled clarity and wipes her tears.
You get the feeling she wasn’t talking about yourself in that speech.
The rest of your procedure goes on without word, quickly and quietly. When Eggabell finishes, she clears her throat. “You, uh, look alright. Good to go.”
“Right.” You hop off of the cot. “Uh, thanks. I…I promise I’ll stay safe, alright?”
Eggabell nods. But as you leave her tent, you wonder just what happened at the top of that mountain that changed her that much.

Five act structure: reason to hope
I don't usually make posts on Tumblr, but i think after st4 maybe i should.
I agree with a lot of criticism for s4 and share everyone's pain. Hope all of you are well or at least getting there.
But here's something I've been thinking, so read on if you want to get another perspective or a little bit of hope in the magic of storytelling.
If the Duffers knew for awhile that they would have 5 seasons, they might have planned s4-5 together, a two-parter of sorts. So the reason s4 feels incomplete is because it is! And the reason it doesn't offer all the things the marketing implied is because those were meant for s5.
I think the Duffers are playing the long game using the 5 act structure. You can read about it on the internet, for example here is a good general article which i'm gonna quote a little.
I want to talk specifically about the final suspense, which is an important narrative tool occurring in act 4.
In 5 act structure, the forth act is where everything that can go wrong, does. It's the darkest before the dawn part, the part where we, along with the characters, lose all hope for things to end well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's like Sam's speech in The two towers: "how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer."
I think there's reason to assume this is the structure the Duffers are planning.
First of all, the show is 5 seasons long. What better way to structure it than with five acts?
Secondly, other seasons seem to fall neatly into this structure.
For example, s3:

If we go by this structure and try to imagine what s5 might look like, it also fits perfectly:
Tumblr media
Sound familiar? After the brutal and incomplete s4?
So if we assume Stranger Things is supposed to have this structure (which i think is reasonable and highly probable), then s4 is exactly the season where everything is so wrong it seems to never be right again.
But a new dawn is just around the corner.
A new hope if you will.
So take heart.
p.s. I know we've waited three years for this and didn't get much of anything resolved. I know we're all having trust issues right now irt the Duffers' plan and writing, but i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. We've loved this show for so long, it gave us a lot, we put so much passion, effort, skill and love into it that i think it's not entirely fair to anyone to just abandon all hope and judge an unfinished show.
We're all hurt and frustrated right now, and afraid to be hurt again in two years. But hope is hardly a bad thing. Remember: the story is not over yet, and some wonderful storytelling just might be still happening.
p.p.s. With byler and Robin x Vicky and Will's potential coming out it's also possible that it's just not allowed to make any of that explicit until well into s5. It can be part of the deal with netflix or something, for fear that anything more than "up to interpretation" will cost the platform a chunk of its viewership.
It's a sad possiblity to consider, but I'm speaking from experiences with other shows and fandoms.
Just as an example: the creators of Steven Universe faught tooth and nail for a lesbian wedding and a kiss on screen, WON THIS, but immediately got cancelled and faught some more for additional several episodes to conclude the series.
Obviously, they aren't the same shows, I'm not saying it's the same situation.
But stuff like this still happens, unfortunately.

It is incredible how many public figures, including our own Leader of the Opposition, have struggled to answer the simple question, “What is a woman?”. Of course, the truth is that they are almost certainly able to answer the question but are afraid to do so lest they unleash the rage of the increasingly aggressive trans-lobby.
I believe that, in a free society, people are entitled to live their lives in the way that they want, as long as it does not interfere with the freedom, safety and rights of others, particularly those younger and more vulnerable than themselves. That, surely, is a position most Conservatives should support. This must be supplemented with a staunch defence of free speech so that the issues can be openly discussed, by those with widely differing views, without the intimidation and aggressive bullying of the anti-family, anti-women extremists.
We should approach the debate around trans rights with rationality, proportion and compassion.
Rationality because facts matter, and the value of a particular view is not determined by the strength by which it is held but by reference to science and empiricism. Proportion because we cannot let the noise of an angry minority mask the fact that we are talking about a very small number of people in the population whose problems need to be addressed but who have no right to enforce views on the majority with which the majority disagrees or disapproves.
And compassion because behind all the political noise, bullying and intimidation, there are genuine individuals in pain and distress who deserve our sympathy and support.
For me, the most worrying element in the entire trans rights debate is the safety and protection of children. A recent report from the think tank Policy Exchange exposed a neglect of safeguarding at the expense of gender identity. It found that only 28 per cent of schools are reliably informing parents as soon as a child discloses feelings of gender distress and at least 19 per cent of schools are not maintaining single sex toilets.
The report also shows that 72 per cent of schools are teaching that people have a gender identity that may be different from their biological sex and 25 per cent are teaching that some people or children “may be born in the wrong body.”
Clearly, teaching unions and other representative groups should give a lot more thought to the difficult, and personally painful, tasks being faced by many teachers and less weight to the pressures coming from activists.
The medical profession should take note, too. The willingness of many clinicians to rush to agreement for surgical and hormonal treatments may reap a wild whirlwind in the future. There is a real danger that ill-thought through surgical interventions, such as double mastectomy or orchidectomy (castration) or complex hormonal treatments (that may be irreversible), will lead to increased human suffering in the long-term.
We must also protect our right to free speech. The way in which extremists in the trans movement have sought to close down debate, including on safe spaces for women, is nothing less than an attempt at brutal censorship, worthy of the most repressive regimes.
That is why all of us, whatever our views on the subject of trans rights itself, must unite in making it abundantly clear that everyone, celebrity or not, is absolutely entitled to their views and to express them freely in a free society without fear of violence or intimidation.
Proportionate, rational and compassionate debate should be our watchwords alongside a resolute defence of young people and freedom of speech. There is too much at stake to stay silent.

HSMTMTS thoughts before season 4 pt. 2
So this is my second part after my re-watch of season 1 through 3 before the final season airs. After giving my thoughts on the seasons in general I thought I would talk about the ships on the show since a lot of new content dropped. The discourse has been interesting to say the least lol
Warning!!! I am going to be brutally honest about the ships on the show because I don't mind discussion, discourse or pushback. I'm not going to put any anti tags because I think the fandom could use some brutal honesty right now, especially with the severe lack of media literacy when it comes to this show and it's ships.
Rini (Ricky and Nini or is it Nina lol):
So I would categorize them as a typical Disney ship, pretty cookie cutter and unoriginal. It's the typical relationship that was formed because of childhood and growing up together. This type of pairing has been done before and will certainly be done again. So for a new show it is understandable to promote this relationship to bring in the audience.
During season 1, the show placed a lot of easter eggs that would forecast the downfall of this relationship, re-watching season 1 definitely helped me catch more of them. As curtsies-from-princess-ashlyn pointed out, throughout season 1 Ricky is looking for comfort and emotional support from Nini but he doesn't get that from her because she doesn't understand what he is going through when it comes to his home life with his parents. Obviously Ricky spends the first half of season 1 trying to get Nini back with her not giving him the time of day, until the homecoming episode changes everything for him because of a certain new girl (Gina). He kind of forgets about Nini while building this new relationship, a relationship that both Nini and EJ notice. The show eventually has Ricky and Nini come back to each other towards the end of the season 1. The thing that stands out to me the most is that in order for them to be put back together, they literally had to remove Gina from an episode for it to happen. Shows tend to do this a lot, when they want a certain pairing together they remove another character so that the pairing can stand alone without any competition in the scenes. But to me this is something that always makes me go hmmmmm you had to remove a character and stop total interaction in order for this pairing to get back together. Ricky and Nini have the moment in the finale where he confesses to her bringing up all these moments from childhood and bam end of season. I think a major reason why that confession scene did nothing for me is that he mentions all these moments that he has had with her from their childhood and we the audience didn't see any of it so it kind of falls flat. How am I supposed to be invested in that speech when I didn't see those moments. I also think putting them back together just regressed their characters. I always have a hard time watching that scene because the acting was just off, I think it was mentioned that they let Josh improvise it and maybe they shouldn't have.
Season 2 starts with Rini back together and in the very first episode Ricky looks directly at the camera and says that him and Nini are never breaking up ever again lol. I don't know if needing media literacy is necessary for that line because the show is spelling it out for the audience foreshadowing that they are going to be over again. That line was not a mistake, it was telling the audience to be prepared. Nini starts the season by not being truthful to Ricky about leaving and going to YAC until she just blurts it out with everyone around. The communication with these two has just always been non existent. Nini doesn't even know that Ricky moved, she goes to his old house yet Gina knows his new address, that's another thing that made me go hmmmm and wonder. Nini starts feeling held back by Ricky and that he doesn't like/love her for the right reasons, which makes her write the Rose song that is clearly about Ricky even though she denies it when he asks her. Ricky gets all excited when Nini comes back and thinks she came back for him but in a brutal way tells him that she didn't. She was already off the bus when he called. Where having media literacy comes into play is understanding that with everything else in Ricky's life changing which is something that he hates, his relationship with Nini and Nini herself represents something the same. He clings on to Nini because he wants at least something to be the same and not change like everything else in his life, which is unfair too Nini. Midway through the season they break up with Ricky initiating it with him saying he doesn't like who he is/becoming while with Nini. The breakup scene was honestly done really well. Obviously the relationship was needed in the end so that the characters could grow and understand what they actually want.
It surprises me how many people in the fandom still cling to this relationship because they were truly miserable with each other during season 2. If you truly cared about the characters you would not want them back together, they clearly outgrew each other and just didn't work anymore. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised though that people still cling to them because of the weird Jolivia stuff that I still see. Liking Rini and wanting them back just seems to be a cover for Jolivia's, like seriously people.
Lastly, people in the fandom like to say that if Olivia didn't leave the show or that if the drama didn't happen Rini would have been endgame yet season 2 was already written before all of that. Like I said at the start, the easter eggs were already planted in season 1 for the downfall of the relationship. I certainly think Rini was definitely endgame if the show was a limited series having only 1 season because of how season 1 ended with them together, they couldn't end it on a cliffhanger with no resolution. They did not know if they were going to be picked up for another season, once they did, they were able to go in the direction they wanted too.
I was planning on going over all of the ships in one post but by the time I finished my thoughts on Rini it was already too long lol so I might just do a post everyday leading up to the new season on the other ships.
Thanks for reading if you did! If you just read the title, thank you!
