The presence of God Part 6
Can make your face to shine
The skin of Moses' face shone
Many wonderful stories and testimonies are told of the Lewis revival in 1949.
One such story is about an unconverted woman who went along to a prayer meeting and after queuing to get in, she experienced something immensely powerful.
There was a child in the house and the presence of God was so strong that the child`s face shone.
The unconverted woman was convicted of sin and her need for the Saviour. She received salvation and was baptized in the Holy Spirit by just looking at the child`s
face.
This is a fascinating story about the presence of God making a person's face to shine, but is it biblical?
The story of Moses
Exodus 34:29-35
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
34 But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
Verse 29; Moses did not know that his face was shining
Verse 30; Others were afraid to even approach Moses
Verse 33; Moses kept a veil over face when talking to men but took the veil off when
talking to God.
Moses’ face shone showing he had been in the very presence of the Living God. In the
New Testament some people baptized in the Holy Spirit may have shown evidence on their faces.
The story of Stephen
Acts 6:8-10,15
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
15 And all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
Acts 6 Verse 3; Men full of the Spirit
Verse 4; Stephen the martyr
Verse 15; Face like the face of the angel, suggesting a glorious shining since holy
angels have direct access to the presence of God.
A manifestation that is less commonly recognized of baptism in the Holy Spirit can be the presence of joy on the face of the candidate.
Many of us have experienced moves of the Holy Spirit which have brought immense joy and even laughter to those affected.
Have you heard or read about such meetings during the Welsh Revival in 1904-1905?
Many people claimed that the Welsh evangelist Evan Robert`s face shone as he preached.
What do you think?
During a revival in Scotland in the late 1830`s -1840`s when the Rev. Robert Murray M'Cheyne entered the pulpit, before he said a single word people began to weep and were convicted of sin. Something of the presence of God shone on his face.
How would you like to see that?
How would you like to experience that?
Do you think God would be glorified by it?
So, what has this to do with us today?
2 Corinthians 3:7-18
13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
Comments
Verse 8; How shall the ministry of the Spirit to be even more with glory by us as we bring the
good news.
Verse 12; We are not required to cover God`s glory on our faces when we speak his love or
when we preach his Gospel. Believers have a new and better covenant
Verse 18; As God`s face shines, so should our faces so shine increasingly each day.
My conclusion is that the presence of God`s glory can be so strong that he can cause your face to shine.
This is not an abstract idea, so let us pray today for such a presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives that our faces will shine and bring conviction of sinners by the Holy Spirit.
What effect is God having on your face today?
Amen

Practicing His Presence
“It is only by remembering that ‘Another lives in me’ that we can die daily to that old, false, usurping self, and that we can continue to be drawn further in and higher up into the life of God.  To ‘practice the Presence’ is to continually call to mind this great reality.
Once again we see that the secret is incarnational.  One dies to the old self and lives to the new by continuing to receive of the Other Life.  Even our prayers, in true prayer, are really His prayers.  He speaks to Himself through us.  And it is the same with all the virtues and all the fruits and gifts of the Spirit.  All are equally derivative.  We must never forget this, and we must always practice this Holy Presence, even though we can do it only for moments at first.
This really is the whole of Christianity.  Christianity isn’t a covenant or a law but it is a life - it is Another Life being lived in and through us.  Our human spirit, when in union with this Holy Other, is the higher self.  The ‘practice of the Presence’ leads to the knowledge of this higher self, and away from either the wrong kind of self-love or self-hatred.  It is in this New Life that we find our souls as well as our spirits - indeed, the whole of our nature - raised.
This is why we do not need to fear our intellects, our imaginations, our emotions, our intuitive beings, or our bodies.  We simply offer them wholly to God and find them revitalized and redirected.  By the principle of the incarnation the Highest is transposed into the lowest, and man finds himself resurrected in every faculty of his being.  This is the true, the whole self.”

Simran is a Bhakti Practice: "There is so much power in Simran. If Naam has manifested within then, while doing Simran, one forgets about the body and the sensory organs. Simran is a very strong thing. Therefore, while doing Simran, we should not think of it as a burden. We should do Simran with love and affection." (Baba Ram Singh)

Alternatives to Digital Distraction: Five Spiritual Disciplines
Photo by Antonis Spiridakis on Unsplash I work on a university campus. It is a beautiful place. I’m thankful for the opportunities to leave my office, walk the grounds, and be surrounded by beauty. There are green spaces and trees, fountains and memorials, the sound of bells chiming the hour, birds, squirrels, cultivated gardens. I also have memories. I completed my undergraduate degree here. 5 Marks of a Disciple: Prayer
Matthew 6.5-15 Prayer is something we have talked about before. Has it been woven into the fabric of your daily routine yet? Time spent with just you and your Father? If not, today’s a great day to get started. If you are new to prayer, having a plan is helpful. It’s going to take some intentionality to get started because as much as we may want prayer to just happen, unless we are intentional…

Living from heaven to earth is a relational activity.
When Jesus was on earth, He continually sought what His Father was doing in heaven.
Then that’s what He did on earth. Now, as Jesus did, we do the same. 1 John 4:17.
The Father put me into Jesus, because that’s the One place where I could always hear His voice, the One place I would always be safe, the One place I would always be blessed. He put me into the One place He could always approve of me because the Father loves me exactly the same way He loves Jesus. John 17. In the same way He loves Jesus, He loves me! With me in Christ, the Father can always stay true to His own heart towards Jesus in me.
I can never lose the Presence of God, I can only lose my awareness of His Presence. Every day I can trust Him and thank Him that He is fully present. It’s a wonderful act of worship.
This Truth sets me free from worrying about not feeling His Presence, sets me free from having to call Him down from heaven into my circumstances, because He is already here!
When I say, Help me, I speaking to Him in my situation, not desperately trying to search for Him as if I am alone. There is not fear
I don’t pray for the presence of God; I practice it. Then I practice it in every circumstance and with everyone I meet.
I can practice all the “one anothers”. Love one another. Be kindly affectionate to one another. Give preference to one another.
I can practice being still because He’s promised that the deep unshakable Presence of God is in the stillness. Psalm 46:10
I don’t have to try to feel peace or feel His Presence. I focus on Him, giving praise and thanks for who He is. Then as I focus on Him, He transforms my mind and opens my heart to His spirit, so that heaven floods my soul.
I can relax into rest. I can still the noise in my head and I can ask the Holy Spirit to comfort me and reveal the Father’s relentless goodness and kindness. I can enter His joy and delight in who I am and who I am becoming in Christ.
I can cultivate a greater awareness of Your Presence every day, not just in meetings. That way, we are increasing the freedom of heaven on earth the way it is in the spiritual realm.

Ja’marr saying that just Joe being present uplifted the team 🥹
Despite the fact that he wasn't able to be on the field, how was he keeping the team in great spirits?
Honestly [Joe's] presence is enough. I honestly told him that one day, he probably thought I was joking. But just him bringing his presence to practice, him being around us at practice, brings joy to some of the guys' faces. Especially when we're out there just running routes and we just see Joe come and walking over, you know it brightens everyone's day and brings more energy to the practice.

juli is a much more hard character to think in terms of relationships because, if you ask me personally, contrary to kazeki in which the gilbert and serge interact transform each other, their judgements of the other, their presence in the story etc in more or less equal proportions are for themselves the main motor of the narrative, while juli's arc alone overtakes so much of TnS'. like juli's and eric's *relationship* serves in function of juli's arc, but they very well resolved separate from the other.
#txt#like eric's interactions w juli dont change in almost any way his relationship with god so much as in *thomas* did *through*#eric. as an example. yeah juli and eric do grow closer and eric gets to understand and empathize w juli's conditions#but the opposite is not true all that much (may be misremembering) like oscar may have been more important relative#to eric's conflict than juli was. eric is to juli's narrative a vehicle or a physical medium through which to process his grief#his feelings of affection to thomas. the emotional implication of being observed (the judgement of god. expectations of correctness form#family and by extention society. 'being known' and thus being despised or in change worthy of love and all that)#but like all that has less to do with how people or god by that means *actually* percieve him but how he himself does#like him feeling unworthy of gods love or to love is not bc god said it to him in a dream or anyone saying he is bc of being SA'd#by the fact he told practically nobody. and you can argue the weight of homosexuality and how it permeates in all of this.#thomas stance on juli even is categorically loving and unconditional. but as long as it's not juli that allows to be understood#ie engage w the mutal and vulnerating dinamics that *any* sort of relationship entails then he doesnt progress in his arc.#so *allowing* forming genuine relationships to reach self acceptance > the specific character of the person in the relationship#or something like that.#so in those ways is that i say his conflict and not so much like. the origin or manifestation bc their personalities change them#fundamentally. to gilbert's but gilbert and serge's relationship WITH EACHOTHER has as much if not more relevance as their individual#characters. while juli's more introverted (not shy) and well thomas is dead and god has a not-presence so that's. a lively social circle#i guess. oscar and him know not to interfere seriously with the other and so on and so forth.#and it's not like that wildly changed even after his arc lol.

The presence of God Part 3
Practicing the presence of God (2b) continued
Our lives are or ought to be lives of fellowship with God and each other (koinonia) and is a sharing of lives and so we must become more aware of God and His people.
Assuming by now, that we agree that it is desirable to be increasingly aware of God’s presence, the obvious question is, how do you do it?
Is it simply a matter of more; prayer, bible study, praise and worship and actual fellowship with Him whilst not petitioning Him. Well, all of this is desirable, and you will be blessed in it and for it. But how can we become aware of God's presence in our everyday life including work, chores and tasks?
Matthew 22:35-40
v.37 Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Part of loving God with all your being, must be to do everything out of a love motive for Him.
So according to Bro. Lawrence every task that he performed, peeling the vegetables, fetching the water, heating the soup, he would dedicate it to God.
Lord, because I love you, I will prepare this meal for my brothers (whom you love).
Lord, out of love for you I will do this ironing! (To meet a need for people whom you love).
Brother Lawrence even got beyond this and would pick up a flower out of love to God.
1 Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
The above tasks and duties are common everyday things and not particularly spiritual (unless communion).
Anything we do should bring glory to God i.e. give honour or praise to Him.
When we give thanks for our food, we glorify God. Recognising that it comes from Him and he gives us the grace to enjoy it.
Thanksgiving brings His presence into each event in a special way.
If we thank Him for our car, house etc. recognising His supply, He is glorified.
Those present immediately become aware of His presence or at least of His existence.
And what about thanking God for difficult people/situations? (a greater place of maturity!).
Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Commit everything to the Lord in prayer. He will give you success.
Invite God into all that you do (particularly any new project or venture) whether spiritual or secular.
Not only will you be blessed by your increased awareness of Him, but He will prosper the venture because you committed it to Him.
If you have a party, make out your first invitation to God. God is omnipresent so really it is just a question of our awareness.
Summary If like Bro. Lawrence you want to live constantly in the presence of God which brings fullness of joy then practice these 3 things.
1. Commit every task to Him (invite Him in).
2. Thank him for his supply and provision.
3. Perform each task because you love Him and do it in a way that brings honour God.
Amen

"It isn’t necessary that we stay in church in order to remain in God’s presence. We can make our hearts personal chapels where we can enter anytime to talk to God privately. These conversations can be so loving and gentle, and anyone can have them".

out of context things heard in wayne manor:
bruce: i understand, but pretending you cooked jerry the turkey is not a proportionate response to damian calling you a peasant again
————————
jason: look there’s a right way and a wrong way to make food. there’s also the bruce way, which is the wrong way except faster and worse
duke: *frantically scribbling notes*
————————
tim: do you think our relationship was kinda like incest now?
steph, horrified: never open your mouth in my presence again timothy
————————
dick: so then he’s like—guys. guys are you seriously signing about me in front of my face. i learned it too—hey i do NOT have a butt chin take that back—
————————
damian: i don’t understand, why does he wear such a ridiculous hat? is it like that margaret poppins woman grayson showed me?
tim, who watched the live action cat in the hat too much as a kid and is about to violently infodump: well you see-
dick: oh god it’s too late
jason: yeah the brats on his own for this one i’m not fucking dealing with that again
————————
bruce: are you lying?
tim: always. anyway, like i was saying—
————————
steph: hey what’s up with you and all the redheads
dick: …i’m not discussing this with you
steph, starting to chase him: gingervitus is a serious affliction! you cant run from this
dick, sprinting away: yes the fuck i can
————————
duke: so is anyone gonna talk about the elephant in the room…
dick:
dick: look i was feeling sentimental and zitka jr. really isn’t any trouble
damian: she is magnificent
————————
tim: so i dropped out and
duke: wait we can drop out of high school??!!?
bruce: NO.
duke: please bruce ap biology is beating my ass right now
jason: nah tim just got to drop cause bruce was dead and he’s a loser. the real problem is what you’re reading in ap lit right now, because i have thoughts on that curriculum—
duke: i’m not even gonna use half that material in the real world
tim: actually most of our villains have PhDs so their plans are based on pretty real science
duke: not helping timothy
————————
cass, signing: why are brothers on the ceiling?
jason: tims in timeout from working on his caseload
cass, still confused: yes but why taped to the ceiling
duke: listen if you know a better way of restraining his psycho ass then i’m all ears
cass: and damian?
jason: oh he saw this as free range target practice so he had to go up there too
cass: they are plotting revenge up there
duke: think of it as brotherly bonding
————————
damian: it’s not my fault he got in the way
bruce: you threw an eclair at lex luthor
damian: i was aiming for drake
tim: bruce we can’t take him anywhere
dick, holding back laughter: timmy you paid four separate people to come to the gala solely to ask lex if they could use his head to see if they had something in their teeth
tim: you have no proof that was me
————————
duke: look steph, it’s not that we don’t want to help with this
jason: i don’t want to help
duke: it’s more that i don’t think we can physically fit that many people in a shopping cart, and your whole plan kind of hinges on that
————————
alfred: i’m not mad, just disappointed in you.
every batkid, near tears: sorry alfred
————————
jason: HE HAD DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY AS THE FUCKING WHAT—
bruce: listen—
tim, mouth full and brain empty: the ambassador to iran. crazy right?

Becoming Holy (Isaiah 4:2-6)
The earth will once again be blessed. A rainbow of promise shall rise to remind us all that the storms which ravaged us have passed, never to return again.
And that’s when God’s Branch will sprout green and lush. The produce of the country will give Israel’s survivors something to be proud of again. Oh, they’ll hold their heads high! Everyone left behind in Zion, all the discards and rejects in Jerusalem, will be reclassified as “holy”—alive and therefore precious. God will give Zion’s women a good bath. He’ll scrub the bloodstained city of its…
