🗡️ Subtle Talos Worship 🪨
Collect rocks/crystals you like
Bask in the sunlight (Cretan)
Take a walk/hike on a sunny day (Cretan)
Light a bonfire; sit in front of it; focus on the warmth and life it provides
Collect bronze colored items; wear bronze colored jewelry
Assert your personal boundaries; make it clear when someone has done something that made you uncomfortable
Get a candle that reminds you of him (no altar needed)
Keep a picture of him in your wallet
Wear jewelry that reminds you of him
Make something with your hands; work hard on a project or item you're creating (Cretan)
Stand up for yourself and others; stand up for those you love
Assert your boundaries; make others aware when they upset you or make you uncomfy
Set boundaries for yourself; I'll only give this much support to that person, I won't stay on my phone for hours before bed, I won't engage with this media that always upsets me, etc.
Have a stuffed animal of a creature that you associate with protection, defense, strength, or the sun (sun = Cretan)
Have imagery of bronze robots/automatons, swords, shields, large rocks/boulders, the island of Krete (Crete), the sun (Cretan), Volcanoes (Cretan), or light (Cretan) around
Learn self-defense; carry weapons on you (pepper spray, pocket knife, etc.)
Learn how to properly use a weapon of your choice; sword, bow and arrow, short sword, spear, pocket knife, etc.
Listen to yourself, especially regarding situations/people that your gut tells you are unsafe; your GUT, not your ANXIETY
Get to know yourself better; know that you know yourself better than others
Disregard unconstructive criticism; work on not taking hate personally (easier said than done, I know)
Fall asleep/meditate to the sound of island ocean waves
Try to eat healthy; fruits, veggies, protein, etc.; take care of your physical body
Grow your own produce or herbs (Cretan)
Support local farms; buy their produce (Cretan)
Support farming/food (Cretan) or humanitarian organizations; support homeless shelters
Volunteer at a food bank, soup kitchen, or farm (Cretan)
Take regular breaks from screens; make sure to go outside for some fresh air (Cretan)
Make sure to wear sunscreen on sunny day (Cretan)
Go cloud-watching (Cretan)
Exercise; get movement throughout your day, even just stretching
Visit the beach or nearby body of water; stick your feet into the shallows; try to ground yourself there
Ground yourself regularly; check in with yourself and your body frequently
Own a sword - it'd be so cool if you did
Play a fighting-based video game; choose a supportive/defensive character
On a tough day, be gentle with yourself; eat/drink something comforting, take a shower, get cozy under a blanket, watch a comfort movie, etc.
Stick affirmational/encouraging notes in places you'll see them throughout the day
Make a list of your personal strengths and weaknesses; try to healthily reflect on ways you can better yourself
Drink fruit or vegetable juices (Cretan)
Paint or draw an island; purchase art of an island from an artist
Support local businesses
Get involved with local communities; support groups, gamer groups, neighborhoods, etc.
Leave good tips for those working in the service industry; delivery drivers, waiters, hospitality workers, etc.
Treat service workers with compassion and empathy; they've got it rough
Build a sand castle; give it some cool defenses
Support the less fortunate in your community
Volunteer at a homeless shelter; volunteer within your community
Donate supplies to homeless shelters; hygiene kits are always needed
-
This is my list of discreet ways to worship Talos. There are two versions of him most commonly worshipped - that of mainland Greece and that of the island of Krete itself. Both vary vastly; Krete saw him as a bronze automaton Sun god that fathered Hephaestus, while mainland Greece saw him as a giant bronze automaton assigned to protect Krete by Zeus. I gave suggestions for both versions. I hope y'all find this helpful, and take care! 💚

anybody else play a cleric durge and felt like they had to come up with some ridiculous reason as to why their pc would wake up believing they worship a god that’s not bhaal? ophelia’s is “i can tell i used to worship a god and can’t remember who, but i have some sick fucking lightning powers and i love carnage destruction and chaos, so that probably means talos is my god. yeah that checks out”
and it’s just. not even fucking true. she was absolutely Not a cleric before the nautiloid, and she definitely didn’t worship talos. he just happened to fit the description
i like to think talos sees her going through this process and just decides to feed into her delusions and grant her cleric powers because he thinks it’s funny

for as big as the oblivion crisis was, it's super weird that Skyrim doesn't even touch it beyond a few dialogue mentions :/ like it was a pretty fuckin violent tamriel-wide event, it's gotta have some more far reaching consequences over generations of people than just 'well that's the end of the third era'
having just finished the oblivion main quest, npcs talk of celebrating dagons defeat with new songs and broken oblivion gates dot the landscape. martins dragon statue serves as a somber reminder of all the friends you had that are now dead
in skyrim where are those songs? the oblivion gates? the graves? martin? the written and oral histories of the crisis itself and the aftermath? for a province known for its bardic traditions there's nothing about any historical events newer than 'ancient as shit' and it's really quite disappointing playing oblivion and knowing that none of it actually matters
i could understand bethesda wanting to distance themselves from the cheerful tone and style of oblivion in order to be able to appeal to GoT fans and in line with the popular gritty and '''''realistic''''' style of early 2010s media, but like. honestly. marketing is stupid af and not sticking with the Basic Lore of Literally The Previous Game's Main Quest really shows a lack of imagination and backbone on the writer's part. Like you want gritty and dark? There's an apocalyptic event right there and you could write about how people have been dealing with it!
man don't even get me started on the whole 'mages guild broke up cos people thought they were involved with the oblivion crisis' thing. common oblivion npcs literally talk about mythic dawn and knew what was going on. fucking come on man
och just a painful reminder that these games could be so good if they were actually like. good

just saw a girlie on tiktok who's playing skyrim for the first time and she was kinda blindsided by the civil war questline?? like she didn't expect the stormcloaks to be nord supremacists so now she's assumed that the game is pro-imperialism and that the empire are supposed to be the "good" guys. which is where a lot of well-meaning ppl end up when playing for the first time - that's where i was before i succombed to the tes lore brain rot - but i hope she's open to learning more and isnt put off by the Gamer Men in her comments calling her an sjw gkdjshfkdj

Magna doesn't necessarily believe in a god at least not the one that every Nord believes in. The catch is that her experiences have convinced her that the gods are apathetic, and she wants nothing to do with whatever "divine entity" that looms out there and is often very annoyed when dealing with those who believe in such. The only god she worships is herself.

Anyway I just think that if the Nords want the freedom to worship Talos, then they should be alright with the freedom of ALL religions in the elder scrolls franchise.
No more Vigilants of Stendarr, as many races worship the Daedra- Orcs and Dunmer being some who immediately come to mind. To deny Daedra worship is to deny the Orsimer and Dunmer of their cultural practices.
Speaking of the Dunmer- the Tribunal would have to be formally recognized as gods too, as even in life they were referred to as the 'living gods'.
Likewise one could make an argument that the Dwemer as a whole could have achieved godhood when they disappeared, and so that would have to be accepted if enough people chose to worship them.
And Mannimarco, King of worms- a Lich who ascended to godhood after an attempt to trick Molag Bal himself.
Ysgramor, who made modern Skyrim into what it is today by killing/driving out the elves in an epic battle as revenge for their attack on Sarthal.
Pelinal Whitestrake, who aided the Slave Queen Alessia in overthrowing their elven slavers and freeing an entire race of men.
I could very much continue.
In short, the Nords would have to accept all of these as potential gods that people can worship without persecution. Because freedom of religion is freedom of ALL religion, even those you don't agree with.

shadowheart seeing tav fully accept her evil god as evil and having only JUST enough faith in him to trust he won’t control her even if she strays from his stated goals, and being proven RIGHT, all the while shadowheart that thing with her hand: i’m sure this isn’t causing any issues for me at all

do you think humans developed rituals of intimacy for their beloved sith back in the days of the ancient sith empire....do you think they invented a way to be closer to them even without the Force and in mind of it....do you think they became so prized because they loved them bordering on worship....

Dev Journal: Day 2
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised to see some attention already on my post yesterday, and it makes me happy to see some people who are already interested. So I’ll start by saying thanks for the support!
Before I go over the developments of today, I guess it’s worth saying exactly how much time is going into this daily. My routine is getting to my desk at 9am, teaching myself Unity and C# through to about 1:30pm, taking about 40 minutes for lunch, and then Creation Kit from the end of my lunch to about 5pm, maybe 6pm on days that I don’t have anything going on in the evenings. Once I’m done with the Creation kit work for the day, I write, so that I can take screencaps without needing to restart my work environment from earlier that day.
So with about 3 hours of work today, what got done? The full structure is built! There’s no glaring holes into the void, though I did notice that a couple of my tiles are placed a few pixels into another, causing some graphical twitching, but that’s okay, and it’ll get fixed tomorrow while I go about furnishing. I also took the time to place a couple of detail items around, but honestly my brain is fried at this point so I’ll probably go back and do it again later. The only negative result from today is that the two-tier library isn’t going to work with the existing textures, but that’s alright.
So what am I going to show you today? Well... everything. All of the rooms in their minimal state, and maybe I’ll write a brief blurb on the context of each of them and changes I noted to make for myself as I was walking around in demo mode. If you ride it out to the end, there’s a little bit of Skyrim trivia for you too!
Tumblr media
The scriptorium will be the main vestibule of this construction. In its finished product, the center of the room will be filled with bookshelves in a classic record-stack format, while desks will line the walls for scribes and researchers alike to study, transcribe, and dispute the works contained in the Vault’s extensive library. While this place has long fallen into disrepair, more magical works like spell tomes, scrolls, or books of particularly important and interesting lore may still litter the desks and shelves of this room. I need to reorient a handful of tiles in this room to remove a couple overlaps, but otherwise it just needs to be detailed.
Tumblr media
The laboratory may be a small space, but it was designed that way so the use of the space for long-term experiments was discouraged. The vault was not built to accommodate travelers for weeks on end, but to house them for a few days while they performed their research to take home to their own labs. Of course, some of the librarians held private experiments and studies that were more involved and time-consuming.
Tumblr media
Opposite the lab are a handful of quiet cells, used by guests for sleeping accommodations or personal study. The northwestern cell is a communal bedchamber for the librarians, as well as a small section of the room used for the repair of degrading or damaged tomes. During my walkthrough I felt as though the guest cells, and perhaps even the resident cell, were a bit too large, so I may use different closing tiles for the far walls tomorrow before I start furnishing, or make the decision after I’ve furnished one. Also all of these cells still need doors.
Tumblr media
This shot is taken from the opposite side of the Special Collections door, where few individuals were permitted. The entrance is off down the left fork of the hall, and to our back will be a reading area for these reserved or restricted titles. Down the corridor lies one more chamber where the head scribe was conducting some interesting research into... well, now, I can’t give everything away, can I?
Tumblr media
I suppose that covers everything for today! Tomorrow likely won’t be as long-winded, nor have so many pictures, but I hope you’ll continue to enjoy it regardless. Now, I made a promise of trivia. It’s something I learned today while testing.
Did you know that the standard character in Skyrim, if you were to travel to another map location via the coc command from the main menu instead of loading/beginning a save, is a Nord with iron armor, an iron shield, the iron one-handed weapons, a longbow, and iron arrows - much like the promotional character from the trailers all those years ago? It also means those pesky Imperials took the armor off your back when you got caught up in that ambush. Just another reason to side with the Stormcloaks, I guess.

Alduin is dead. The Civil War is over. The devoured souls of Sovengard were avenged. All that's left is a physically disabled Briengr trying to conquer his demons, reconnect with Talos, and keep his beast blood controlled, all while raising the orphaned children he adopted during his travels. Lakeview manor has never been more lively.
All is right and well with the world...or is it?
