hello hello! After a few posts of this premise I just had to say something and because you just make them come to life I just had to ask :) anyway, Danny let’s say in seriously injured by the giw or even his parents but he is reverting to his core and he goes to Clockwork to help since he’s the one he’s the most closest ghost to and kinda his guardian ghost, Clockwork sees that he himself will not be able to help forever and finds a different solution. He takes Danny’s core and makes a magic safe guard and puts his core inside in the guise of a doll like this one:
Tumblr media
But with Danny’s coloration! He sends Danny to Gotham and ends up being picked up by Robin!Jason who thinks he’s cute and gets attached, Danny is weak but trying to gather ectoplasm but sends a sense of gratefulness to Jason who feels it but is a bit confused but happy he saved a doll. He brings it with him everywhere and takes it with him everywhere but when Jason dies and buried Danny is sat at his grave and he wakes up a little earlier with Danny and brings with him. He gets a strange attachment and feeling of safety with the doll and then is able to talk to it and Danny and him become closer and when he eventually reunites with everyone and things smooth over he feels it’s fine to bring Danny the doll to the mansion and the others realize that Jason has a haunted fucking doll and with the already thin trust they can’t do hair when Danny messes with them with moving their stuff, appearing out of nowhere, and being all around creepy but he helps Alfred so Jason has no issues and finds it funny. There are probably times where they try to dispose of it anyways but comes back completely fine and they become even warier but Danny is just having the time of his life while eating his ectoplasm while helping them with cases and finding things and such and Alfred even defends him when they try to talk Jason around about the creepy doll and is like “Did you stay at my grave 24/7 in all weather? That’s what I thought.” When Tim tries to get evidence he takes a picture of the doll all he sees is a boy around the age Jason died with pale soft blue eyes staring back with a soft smile that even if it wasn’t really creepy he still felt a chill down his spine
First of all, the photo almost gave me a heart attack. Haunted dolls terrify me (ironically, I fear ghosts.) But honestly, I love the prompt, so here you go!
Jason moves back into the manor- sort of. He's still in the middle of his hostile takeover of Crime Alley, but things are a little less stressful between the family. Maybe it was because Jason's Pit Madness was slowly disappearing, thanks to his friend Danny.
Danny was a great listener and always willing to help Jason sort through his feelings and thoughts. He was the reason that Jason chose to try to talk things out with Bruce before going through his insane idea of attacking Tim at the Titian Tower.
Which, you know, Tim was grateful he didn't actually go through with it after finding the plans in some of Jason's stuff while helping him move. The fact he wanted to wear his old Robin outfit- which would not fit on his body now- would have been beyond traumatizing enough, thank you very much.
"I know." Jason laughed as the rest of the family crowded around the plans. Even Damian seemed a bit disturbed by what was written. "Danny made me realize I didn't have the skinny legs to pull off the outfit."
Tim has never met Danny, but he has heard about him. Jason spoke about him when he followed Bruce and Jason around with his camera, which was enough for him to know Danny was likely a childhood friend.
Of course, Danny went by the code "Doll" in those days. Personally, Tim had always assumed that Jason and Danny shared a relationship that went beyond friends.
It had been another reason that Jason was his favorite Robin. If Robin could like boys, then Tim could too, and the knowledge that one of his literal heroes was like him helped Tim accept himself faster.
He never brought it up, even as Jason slowly gained control over Crime Alley as a Crime Lord- one that didn't kill because it would make Danny sad, which was another point in his secret boyfriend checkbox list.
Everything was fine- until Bruce found out about Danny.
"Jason, I thought you outgrew Danny," Bruce uttered hesitantly as Jason explained how Danny had fallen over himself when describing his Titain Tower plan.
Jason's eyes flashed green at once, and everyone in the cave grew tense.
"I will never outgrow Danny!" The second oldest barked, his neck muscles straining.
Now Tim knew that Danny was a secret, so he never brought him up despite the burning need to ask every question under the sun about him. Jason wasn't out to the rest of the family- detectives or not- that was up to Jason to decide when they would know.
He just always assumed Bruce knew since, you know, his son called his best friend Doll back when he was fourteen and running around in green spandex.
How could he not know? Did he want Jason to change his cape out for a rainbow and sing musicals at the top of his lungs on Wayne Tower?
Actually.....Jason did sing in musicals at his drama club. Honestly, Bruce was in denial.
Jason may not be out, but Tim wouldn't let Bruce bully him about his lover!
"Jason can have whatever friends he wants! And feel whatever he feels about them!" Tim snares, and that causes Dick, Damian, and Steph to bristle. They stand beside a huffing Jason, slowly coming down from his rage at the sight of support.
Cass and Alfred watch from the Batcomputer, a tension around their eyes the only sign that they, too. Bruce intelligently raises his hands in a placating manner.
"I did not mean anything wrong by that, Jason. I'm just surprised Danny still has such a strong hold on you." Bruce starts, his eyes never leaving his boy's face, even with all his other children flocking around him. "I thought Danny was lost when you died."
There is a long pause where Tim considers the words. It's a fair assumption. After all, Danny thought Jason had died and been buried. Why would he wait around after that?
Even the Bats still didn't know what caused Jason to come back. How would a civilian possibly begin to consider his boyfriend returning from the grave- or Tim assumes to be a civilian since Danny had never joined them on the field? He had to be in the know for Jason to tell him the plans comfortably.
"He waited every day, twenty-four seven at my grave," Jason tells Bruce, puffing up his chest. "He was with me when I was in a coma and when I was practically brain-dead on the streets. Hell, he was even there when the League of Assiasns brainwashed me!"
Damian jerks in surprise. He always gets taken aback by how casually Jason admits being part of the organization of his upbringing, no matter how briefly. Not even Bruce does that. "I....was unaware Daniel had been with you. I never saw him."
"Talia allowed me to have him with me just as long as I kept him tied up in my closet so he wouldn't be spotted."
Everyone but Alfred and Bruce step back, staring in horror at Jason. Tim can figure out by their reactions alone that everyone in the Bats had come to the same conclusion as he did about Danny being Jason's lover then.
After all, it's hard to hide that kind of thing from the family of detectives.
How could I have missed this? Tim thinks in dismay. Quickly, his brain runs through every time Jason has so much as hinted at Danny, trying to spot the signs that apparently his brother was abusive and honestly psychotic towards his boyfriend.
"Jason," Dick began in the same casual tone he usually used on hostile witnesses. "Where is Danny now?"
" Upstairs in my closet. He kept trying to escape, so I had to switch to chains." The responses are as easy as they are casual. Tim's stomach drops.
Quickly, he makes eye contact with Steph, who very quickly lowers her chin at him, and then his eyes flicker to the others. Damian's hands have curled, while Dick moves casually to stand behind Jason, which will make it easier to restrain him.
How long had Danny been up there? How many days and nights did he spend held against his will in the one place that should have been the safest of Gotham?
They all tense their muscles, ready to strike-
"Danny is a doll," Bruce suddenly speaks up, his eyes flickering to all of the gathered children with a wild, alarmed look. Ah, he caught on to the fact they were about to take Jason down. "A doll that Jason found in Crime Alley. Made of porcelain and fabric. Not a person."
The Bats are still eyeing their father with sharp, trained eyes, but Alfred's agreeing nod has them relaxing. Oh, thank the gods!
"Of course, Danny isn't a person," Jason replies mystified. He is unaware of how close he came to being jumped. As it were, the Bats stepped away from him as he looked around, confused. "Why would I have a person chained up in my closet?"
Bruce gets a strange, sad smile on his face. "Yes, Chum, why would you."
Tim isn't following. "If Danny is a toy-"
"A doll." Jason cuts in with a hard edge to his voice.
"Right, sorry, if Danny is a doll, why must you chain him up?"
Jason smiles. "Cause Danny runs the first chance he gets."
What?
"Danny is a haunted doll," Bruce starts, only to have Jason huff.
"No, he isn't! Danny is not haunted; he's just curious." Jason rolls his eyes. "Yeah, he never stays still, and okay, sometimes things disappear around the house, but that doesn't necessarily mean a haunting!"
"Master Jason, might I remind you that while you and Mister Danny were first living here, I caught the vacuum moving by itself?" Alfred calls. "I also remember that Mister Danny's head turned to me and followed my movement as I dusted."
"He just wanted to help you clean," Jason defends in a rather childish manner that Tim never thought he would see from someone his age. Maybe that's why Bruce was worried Danny was still around. "He's not a ghost."
"Chum, I hear laughter from your room even when you are not home." Bruce starts. "The laughing started the day you brought Danny home."
"He can tell great jokes!"
"Wait, tells jokes? Jason, does Danny talk to you? " Steph questioned, looking a tiny bit spooked. Oh yeah, she hates ghosts. Tim forgot her fear of them after living so close to the Gotham cemetery and all the nasty ghost stories surrounding it.
Jason blinks down at her, likely forgetting they were present, before considering the question. He moves his hand in a so-and-son motion. "He tries, but it sounds like fast past whispers. I have to strain to hear him."
"Jason," Dick says with an easy-going smile that belies the worry in his eyes. "That's haunting one-oh-one. You're haunted."
"No, a haunting implies that Danny is dead, which he is not. Danny is just resting until his body can reform. I think he's an alien." Jason taps his chin. "He told me before that his species are the conscious manifestation of ectoplasm but that their souls are within a small core, they can retreat to when badly injured. Danny was really hurt, so he's taking a while to reform."
Bruce's strained smile becomes tighter. "We can have Zatanna or Consitine take a look at him. They might-"
"I'll blow your fucking head off if you try it, old man" Jason's eyes were a bright green, an animistic sneer at his lips, and bloodlust was thick in the air. The abrupt change makes Tim wonder if he has passed out and missed the trigger.
Bruce sighs. "Of course, Jason. Why don't you show everyone, Danny? I think it's time they meet him."
Jason beams, shooting up the stairs to go get his doll. Everyone watches him go, and until they are sure he can not hear them, they burst into conversation.
"Jason is definitely haunted!" Dick despairs, throwing himself dramatically on a nearby chair. "We need to do something! Get it away from him."
"We will do no such thing," Alfred huffs. "Mister Danny is a fine young ghost who helps Master Jason. It would be unwise to separate them."
"As much as I hate to admit it, even Dinah claims that the two are good for each other." Bruce says, likely unhappy that Black Canary used her therapy license against him, "Apparently, Danny is Jason's support doll."
Before anyone can say anything else, Jason races down the stairs with a broad smile. In his hands is a beautiful porcelain doll with black fabric hair, a fine little king suit made from expensive material, and a pretty painted face.
Its green glass eyes- colored to seem almost watery- seemed to stare into everyone's soul as Jason held him up for the room to see. Danny had no facial expression- not even a smile, just a soft, relaxed neural set of features that were popular in the era he was likely made in, but the eyes held emotions.
There was definitely something intelligent and aware in them.
Tim shuddered.
"Oh, Tim, can you take our picture? It's Danny's first time in the cave, and I want to commemorate the date!" Jason suddenly asks, rocking on his heels like he used to do as Robin. Tim wonders if Danny was doing that to him- reverting him to a child-like mind.
If so, was that a good thing? Should he let it keep happening?
"Sure, Jason," He says, instead picking up his camera that he had taken on patrol. He aims his lends, trying to find the perfect lighting as his older brother quickly holds the doll up in his arms, allowing it' head to be at the same level as his face.
Tim snaps the picture, but when he looks at the screen, a shiver runs down his spine, and it takes all his training not to scream.
Jason's smirk is not out of place for his hulky form. He takes up most of the frame, but where Danny the doll is, there is a faint outline of another person. A teenager, maybe a year younger than Jason, with pretty features, a copy of the beauty in Jason's arms, but much more human, yet not human, is smiling at the camera.
He's about a head shorter than Jason, but even with the softness of his smile, Tim has never been more creeped out in his life.
Jason is definitely haunted.
"How did it come out?" Jason asks as Danny's doll head turns to look at Damian. The younger boy imminently moved back, hiding behind Bruce. The doll's eyes followed him, almost amused by the boy's actions.
"G-good." Tim stammers. Steph is already racing for the safety of Bruce's cape, joining Damian. "Danny is beautiful."
Jason pauses, tilting his head as if hearing something, eyes flickering down to his right where the teenager ghost stood for the picture, and then grins.
"Of course he means it." Jason's ears turn pink as he admits, "I also think you're the most gorgeous person I've ever met."
Okay, Jason is definitely being haunted by someone he might have a crush on. That's....something Bruce has to deal with because Tim is the younger brother, not the dad, and thank god for that.
He might be wrong, but he gets the sense that the doll is blushing even though nothing changes.
It's not my circus and will never be my monkies. Tim thinks racing to Bruce's cape is a good idea as well. He is scared to be out here in the open like Dick and Cass.
Those two might be okay with being haunted, but Tim isn't. Just in case, he'll have to steer clear of the manor for a few days.

vulpixen (who, like blue, I cannot @ for some unknown reason) wanted me to write a scene in the Angiewolf AU of Angie taking her pups on a trip to the forest.  Ask, and you shall receive.  ;)
Angie laid on the oversize dog bed with Stan, her head in his lap.  Stan stroked the top of her head absentmindedly. He was distracted and nervous; Angie could smell it on him.
“Darlin’, are you all right?” she whined softly.  Stan looked down at her.  While she was in her wolf form and he was human, communication was difficult, but Stan had gotten better at figuring things out from context and body language.
“I’m a bit nervous,” Stan admitted.  He swallowed.  “You’re gonna take the girls into the forest tonight.”
“Anything dangerous in those woods knows better than to mess with me,” Angie rumbled fiercely.  Stan made a half-hearted smile.
“I know you can protect them.  You can probably protect them more than I can.”  Worry settled on his face again.  “I’m just a human.”  Angie sat up.
              “Hon.”
“Don’t bother trying to cheer me up,” Stan mumbled.  “It won’t work.  I can’t understand you.  And anyways, nothin’ could make me feel better about what happened last week.”
Last week.  When Stan had watched Ford disappear into another dimension.  Angie rested her muzzle gently on Stan’s shoulder.  She hadn’t been there to see it happen; in a possessed state, Ford had attacked her with silver, making her bedbound for several days.  A less charitable part of her wanted to let Ford rot wherever he was.  But the part that recognized how lost Stan was without his twin, how devastated her pups were by his disappearance, how distraught Fiddleford was, and how much he had helped her acknowledged that he needed to come back.
“I just wish we coulda put this off until next month,” Stan continued. Angie huffed softly.  “Yeah, I know, you already waited longer than you wanted, just ‘cause I didn’t like the idea of you and the kids wandering in the woods at night.”  Stan sighed. “And it’ll probably make the girls perk up after last week.  They miss their Uncle Ford.”
“We all do,” Angie said quietly. She raised her head.  The sound of small paws was coming from upstairs, where the pups shared a room.  She began to get excited.  Stan chuckled.  Angie looked at him.  “What?”
“Your tail started wagging,” he pointed out.  Angie thumped her tail against the floor for emphasis, making Stan laugh again.  Their triplet daughters, fully shifted into wolf form, ran down the stairs and over to the dog bed.  Daisy jumped into Stan’s lap.  Stan ruffled her fur.  “Hey there, gremlin,” he growled playfully.
“Mama!” Danny squeaked.  Angie lowered her muzzle to take in the scents of her pups.  It was a silly ritual, but one she felt an urge to do each month.  Nothing smelled off about them.  Relief swept over her.  Ford’s scent had changed from cedar and parchment to something sickly sweet near the end.  She hadn’t done anything to address the change, assuming that her sense of smell was still being fine-tuned.  But she had been wrong.
“Hello, my babies,” Angie cooed. “Are you excited to go on an adventure?”
              “Yes!” Molly barked.
“Is Daddy comin’?” Danny asked. Angie shook her head.  “Why not?”
              “He’s not a wolf.”
“Why isn’t Daddy a wolf?” Molly asked.
“That’s somethin’ I can explain more when yer older,” Angie said gently.  She carefully picked Daisy up from Stan’s lap by the scruff of her neck and set her down next to Danny and Molly.  “Now, you three follow me close, okay? No wanderin’ off.”  The pups nodded.  Angie looked at Stan.
“Heading out now?” he asked.  Angie nodded. The same worry from before radiated from Stan.  “Take care of the girls, Ang.”
“Of course, my love.”  Angie nuzzled Stan’s neck quickly before standing up. “Come on, babies.  Let’s go explore!”
-----
The woods were full of life at night.  They were full of life during the day, too, but something about the nocturnal creatures called to Angie more.
Maybe ‘cause I’m one of those nocturnal critters now.  Angie pointed out a few of the nonmagical animals: raccoons, foxes, bats.  She narrowly saved Daisy from pawing curiously at a terrified hedgehog, and yanked Molly away from a wary skunk.  This is more work than I thought it’d be.  If it wasn’t so dangerous fer Stan to come along, and so difficult fer him to keep up with us, I would’ve appreciated the help.  Angie sighed softly.  Stan…
“Mama, sparkle!” Danny yipped. Angie looked over.  Danny was excitedly batting at a fairy.
“Oh, honey, no, leave that poor thing alone!” Angie barked.  “When fairies get scared, they-”  Danny was suddenly covered in a colorful, sparkly substance.  She yelped in surprise.  “-attack with glitter.”  Danny pawed at her face, trying to get the glitter off.  She whined loudly.  Angie strode over to her.  “Sweetie, you’ll have to wait until we head back. Yer dad will give ya a nice bath and get that all off, okay?”
              “Mean fairy,” Danny whimpered.
“I know, I know,” Angie said, nuzzling her.  She looked around.  Daisy was chewing forcefully on a stick nearby, but Molly was nowhere to be found.  Her heartrate skyrocketed.  “Daisy, where did yer big sister go?”
“Huh?” Daisy said, her voice muffled by the stick in her mouth.  Angie swallowed nervously.
I lost Molly.  This ain’t good.  There was a loud bark from somewhere.  Angie listened.  There was another bark.  That’s Molly!  What is she doin’ at the logging camp?
“Daisy, keep up, baby, we’re goin’ after yer sister,” Angie said briskly.  She picked Danny up by the scruff of her neck and set off.  On their way to the logging camp, Daisy got distracted multiple times, forcing Angie to growl at her until she focused again.
I’m startin’ to agree with Stan. This might have been a bad idea. They finally arrived at the clearing Angie had stumbled across during her first transformation in Gravity Falls. It was owned by a local logging company, and while they tended to restrict their activities to the day, Angie regularly saw the owner’s son, Dan, working at night.  He didn’t seem afraid of her.  Rather, the two of them had started to wrestle playfully on full moons, though that had stopped after she’d gotten pregnant with the triplets.  Angie relaxed upon seeing that the only person at the logging camp was her old wrestling partner.
“Heh, you’re CUTE, huh?” Dan rumbled, playing tug-of-war with Molly, using a stick.  “FRIENDLY and brave, too.  Don’t meet many WOLVES as bold as YOU, pup.”  Molly growled playfully.  Angie set Danny down.
“Molly!” Angie barked.  Molly looked over.  “We’re goin’ to head back home. Yer sister got attacked by a fairy.”
              “But-” Molly started.
“Leave the human alone,” Angie said firmly.  Molly whined, but dropped the stick and trotted over to her.  Dan stood from the crouched position he’d been in while playing with Molly.  He nodded silently at Angie.
“Ms. Wolf,” he rumbled.  Angie nodded back.  “Cute pups.”
“Thank you,” Angie replied. She turned around and walked away, closely followed by the pups.
              “You know him?” Molly asked.
“A bit.  He’s nice.  But when yer in wolf form, don’t ever interact with a strange human again, got it?” Angie said.  Her pups nodded.  “Good.  Now, let’s head home.  I’m sure yer dad is worried sick ‘bout us.”

An interview with Makayla Fray
Schninner: Whew! At a computer and have some wifi! *cracks knuckles* Lets get writing! So, I had an idea awhile back where, like in Young Justice where Black Canary was acting as the shrink, Canary would be sent to Team Astro’s base to interview new team members so the league could put their files in the JL data base. This kinda gives you guys an inside look on how the individual members felt toward their predicament and just give you an overall idea of their personality.
OOh! also!  This one takes place soon after the whole kidnapping thing, Makayla had recently been released from the hospital and had just started hero-ing again.
Tagging: @the-singing-canary and @cuddles-for-cassie gonna make one for Sirius as well :D
OC:
Makayla Fray/Little Leaguer/Red Comet
Character(s):
Laurel Lance/Black Canary
Bruce Wayne/Batman
Lobo
Warnings: Mentions of torture
Word Count: 1311
Master List
Canary: Makayla, please answer the question.
Fray: …
Canary: *Sighs irritably* Makayla, please.
Fray: Why? I mean, you already know my story and about my family. I’ve told you before, or have you forgotten?
Canary: *sighs again and rubs temples* Yes, I remember, but you also have to remember that you told me this 7 years ago, before… the incident happened
Fray: “Incident?” You mean, that whole little “incident” when I was kidnapped and tortured? Or when I was turned into a human guinea pig for some unknown chemical?
Canary: *relaxed tone* Calm down, We just need you tell us your story again that way we can-
Fray: So you can what? Compare it to when I originally told you about my life, so you can determine whether or not I’m an imposter or clone?
Canary: …
Fray: *Bitterly laughs* Yeah, thought so. I’ll tell you my story, but only this once, so you better listen up. I was born in Gotham, and my dad ditched us and ran away with some young beauty shortly after I was born. I lived with my mom and my older brother, and at an early age of three I started showing signs of my metahuman abilities, which freaked out my mom so much, that she left us. My older brother Danny, who was probably the best person in the universe, didn’t want us to be thrown into the system, so we pretended that she was still with us, while he took care of us. That lasted for a few years, but one day, he didn’t come home…
Canary: *Concerned* Makayla? Are you okay?
Fray: *Swallows hard* Of course I am, why wouldn’t I be? Anyways, so I had no idea what happened to him, so I went out to look for him. A block away from my dumpy old apartment there were sirens and police cars. I didn’t see what was left of my brother, but I didn’t have to, I knew he was gone.
Canary: *leans over and places hand on shoulder* Fray, it’s okay to cry. You’ve been through so much already an-
Fray: *Hastily shakes hand off shoulder* I’m fine Laurel. I don’t need a shrink to “fix me,” I’m just going to finish this, that way I’ll be able to get back to patrolling. So anyways, I left home, I barely made it a full twenty four hours before I was mugged by a group of doofuses that thought they could take me down without a fight. They got a few small cuts on me, nothing to bad due to my tough skin, and I managed to hit one of them pretty hard, It wasn’t long before good old bats swooped in and scared the crap out of the lowlifes. He made sure I was all okay, then he brought me to the batmobile where we talked. He made me a deal, that if I go with him to the GCPD and cooperate with them,he’ll watch out for me and would help me control my powers. I agreed and was put into the foster care system. So everyday after school, no matter what city or state I was in, I could always travel to wherever I needed to thanks to the Zeta tubes that were always conveniently placed near me. I trained with pretty much everyone over the next 3 years. When I turned 8, I was allowed to come up with my own Alias and costume, and was granted permission to accompany any league member on a mission, but only when I was needed or chosen by a league member. I chose the name Little Leaguer and joined several of the leaguers, including you Canary,on various missions. I did this for a few years, and then I died. The end.
Canary: *slightly irritated* Makayla, don’t-
Fray: I’m sorry, but aren’t you checking to see if my story checks out with your original files? Yes? Well,if I remember correctly, the original files state that I “died” while foolishly going off on my own to beat up Lobo.
Canary: Yes but-
Fray: *Raises voice to talk over Canary* Of course, it left out the part that I was contacted by someone in the league telling me to go to the excact location Lobo was. I was told it was a live event on the news, that everyone saw me go into that building,Lobo following, then there was a big explosion. Lobo said I was dead. The league never questioned it, not even Batman did any further investigation, you all just assumed that your little pity case was dead and gone, setting up a memorial at the hall, while my wonderful foster parents were told I died in an accident, and refused to pay for a funeral for a girl that they had hardly known. My funeral was held close casket, paid by none other than Wayne enterprises, my whole family came too, my mentors, all accepting my death!
Canary: *calmly and collectively* Makayla, just take a deep breathe, and calm down-
Fray: *Standing and angrily pacing*  And your stupid “original files” on me  don’t even tell you the worst part. While you guys all went on with your lives, pretending that you didn’t know me, or trying to forget me, I was alive and breathing. Every single freakin day for the next… who knows how long, getting tortured for Your names. *Tears now streaming down her face* I told them nothing. Nothing. ‘Cause every day I thought ‘today is going to be the day that they find me, today is going to be the day where they finally rescue me.’
Canary: …
Fray: *Quietly whispers* but they never did.
Canary: *Stunned silence*
Fray: *Slowly sits back down, with tears rolling down* I don’t know when, but at some point they gave up on trying to get answers from me. I thought they were going to kill me, and sometimes, I wish they did. Because what happened next was much worse; they had sold me to the Prale, Some super smart alien, or whatever. I figured that they collect all sorts of funky space and interdimensional substances that they found around the universe and where curious on how they would react with living organisms. They brought me to some sort of Earth base for the Prale, where I spent the next few years being subjected to tests to a substance called “Red Comet.” They had no idea that their tests would give me even more special abilities. So, one day when they came to get me, I let loose. I-i didn’t mean to fry them, it just happened. I didn’t know what to do at first, but then I just started running. I burnt and beat everything and everyone in my path, freeing my fellow prisoners along the way. I eventually made it out of the building. Everything was so… bright. I had no idea where I was, but I knew where i needed to go. I knew that the Justice league had to be looking for me, so I flew, and made my way toward the hall of justice. That’s when I saw the memorial. *Bitterly laughs* and the sad thing was that, up until that point, I still had believed that the League was looking for me. I thought that as soon as I got there I would welcomed back with opened arms and told how hard you guys looked for me. But, come to find out, that you guys didn’t look for me at all. You never gave me a second thought. You just set up some hologram of me in the hall and called it good.
Canary: Makayla, I’m sorry, I-I didn’t know-
Fray: Of course you didn’t. Nobody did. *Wipes eyes* well, that's it. You got my story. *stands up* Now if you excuse me, I’ll be leaving.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Review (Spoiler Free/Spoiler Talk Below)
Rating System:
buy it on DVD or digitally (legally)
see it opening weekend
pay full price at the theatre
catch a matinee if you want
rent it for $3-$5
I wouldn't recommend it
As someone whose lived almost their entire in life in love with this character and has been on both spectrums at one time or the other with the Toby-Andrew feud, it is safe for me to say this is the best interpretation put to screen yet. Said every tv spot and critic ever so far. And, they're right. Well admittedly in most cases.
For Peter Parker/Spider-Man, there's one thing I picked up on throughout the movie that I could not drop or forget for the life of me. It's that Tom Holland is beat for beat Marty McFly in some key moments in this film. And that's not a bad thing! The way he delivers when in panic or excitement of any kind just screams 1980s Michael J. Fox to me. And I dig it. He had such a youthful and comedic charm which translates well with this character. Which helps with their allusions to ‘80s classic films. That's what this Peter as Spider-Man is like. He's panicky and screams his confusion. And he's genuinely pretty nerdy and innocent. He's apart of an academic club and was in band. I was in band, I know these things.
Speaking of comedy! This film is full of it, as promised with any film slapped with a Marvel Studios logo on it. It's done very well and not really shoved in your face. Sometimes its situational and sometimes it’s through written dialogue. It doesn’t sacrifice sincere moments for the sake of an extra laugh (a gripe Doctor Strange received a lot). The comedy is where it belongs and the powerful climactic superhero moments are where they belong. Nothing messily meshed. Save one joke, that was totally worth it.
The suit in the film is really interesting. I’ve always loved the design itself, but the features it provides is insane. And it makes sense character wise because it was built by Tony Stark. Of course its going to be over the top and have insane gadgets. But l love the Peter has no idea how to use them or even a clue why he would use some. Some critics were getting antsy about 576 web shooter combinations. “That’s outrageous! What happened to plain and simple Spider-Man?” Well I can tell you Peter agrees! It’s a great touch to his character. He’s from Queens and isn’t used to high-tech luxurious super-suits. He just uses what he knows. And that’s all he needs. Though, when it’s time to take advantage of some features its pretty neat.
The primary love interest is Liz (who would be a loose interpretation of Liz Allan). Her character somewhat correlates to her comic roots. She's popular. They got that right. This Liz is also smart and apart of the academic decathlon club, something I would not expect from Liz Allan in the comics. But in all honesty that's pretty much it for her character sadly. Not a lot said nor done. She's not annoying but not compelling either. His friend in this film is a huge departure from Harry Osborn. Not Ned Leeds confirmed (later Hobgoblin) but just “Ned”. I thought he was a great addition and carried a good amount of the comedy from this film. Some claimed he wavered back and fourth from annoying to funny. I never felt he was annoying. A breath of fresh air, since both portrayals of Harry were quite angsty and “I will never be good enough for my father” territory. This is nice. Just a positive friend there to help. Basically also joining Peter on this cool, adventurous, dangerous ride.
Michael Keaton is a good baddie. He plays the part. Intimidating and has a motive, but sadly not really Loki tear of relevance and memorability. He's a good starting villain for Spider-Man. You are given an insight to why he does what he does. Granted, it's not Zemo level of tragedy. But he pulls his weight in the film. Not completely over-doing it into campiness but not phoning it in at all either. As for Shocker he's in a few scenes and is somewhat of a throwaway villain plucked from Spider-Man's rogue gallery. He's not a particularly interesting villain even in comic form so if he had not been there and was replaced with Bad Guy #2 the story wouldn't have lost a beat. I understand wanting new and never used bad guys adapted because “we have the rights now! Let's go crazy!” But I say quality over quantity. Vulture would've been—no, is plenty for the whole movie. And yes, Tinker gets a little bit too, but I argue he'll be more useful and brought back for future installments. Similar to what they're doing with Klaue. So he might actually have a pay off. Unlike Shocker, sadly. As for Donald Glover he's great! Only in two scenes, but cool. He's chill and even helps Spider-Man. I really want them to bring him back because he was criminally underutilized. The second scene with him is incredibly funny.
Right off the bat I will just say the ending is hilarious and made the entire theatre burst out laughing. I love the ending credits because it was new and thoughtful. It was youthful, yet again, and just made the part of watching the credits to get to the after credits scene more fun. It's colorful, which is what this movie is as well. It's bright and sunny. Marvel gets a good amount of flack for its gloomy cinematography despite its much more playful tones. Not all juxtaposition is good, translates well, or quite frankly makes sense. This movie breaks the trend. And it's fitting for a great summer-y superhero blockbuster flick. You want to have an exciting harmonious display to inflict a positive memory of seeing this movie on a relaxing summer day with your friends. You'll remember it with affection and ease. The stakes aren't as high with this film. The whole earth isn't in peril. There is conflict and tension but none too much that The Avengers themselves would have to come take care of. So it helps with the logic in that aspect of the universe as well.
Quite recently I've been big on spotting patronizing films with telling and not showing. Or worse. When they do both. They don't trust the audience to put it together, watch, or be intrigued. Invested. But we are! This film does hardly any of that, though it is slight. Sam Raimi is king of showing and not telling thus far out of all three Spider-Man directors. But overall it treats its audience with respect. The pacing is balanced as well. Some scenes are slow for development and even plot purposes and others a grand and big for a superhero film.
The theme of the film is slightly muddled and mixed for me to put my finger on. Overall it's to take responsibility. I mean, what else would it be? Do the right thing. When confronted with the Vulture, Peter is given a very clear and major threat on his life and his friends and family’s life. The whole scene he is clearly scared out of his mind. But he doesn't hesitate to drop everything and go after him the second he can. Knowing everything at stake. Because he has to. It's inspiring. He also humbles himself and feels the need to learn more and grow before becoming a full time Avenger. Ya know, go to school and stuff.
The musical score will have you smile with the opening theme. Otherwise, sadly nothing will top Danny Elfman’s. There aren’t any other distinct themes I picked up on could hum other than the iconic one everyone already knows.
Rating time. I would say both see this opening weekend and buy it when it comes out. It's truly great and a prime example of fun popcorn movies that can have quality. Quality acting, special effects, writing, you know the drill. I'd recommend it for kids (probably 10+), teens, and adults. See it with your family, see it with your friends to support watching movies as great as this in the theatre. And for Marvel to keep making fun movies that are all creating a bigger interconnected world. Or! If you just simply love Spider-Man and only care about him!
Either way, just see it!
Because it's honestly amazing.
SPOILER TALK
Now that the overall review is laid out I do want to give comments on…other things.
All I can say is I don't mind that Zendaya was/is “MJ” but I'm curious as to how they're going to play her out. Is her name solely just a wink at the character Mary Jane or is she going to be a genuine love interest? Time will tell, but personally I prefer the former. I'd really appreciate a plain and simple companionship between Peter and this character. I can't see these characters having a love for each other that isn't platonic. Let her be Michelle and let Mary Jane be Mary Jane. There doesn’t have to be some new spin or cross making of the sort. Preferable I’d say have this new character made be her own thing or adapt Mary Jane from the comics as well as you did with Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Because those two characters of Michelle and Mary Jane are absolutely nothing alike. Obviously.
I'm picky about Spider-Man love interests, okay.
As for the connection of Liz being the daughter of Vulture it is hilarious, but has very little impact emotionally. Yes it is funny but you don't feel bad for Peter in the way you should. You feel bad because he's in a bind and can be harmed physically. Not because this girls parental ties puts a burden on their love or relationship. It gives temporary tension, which is awesome, but in the long run the relationship between Liz and Peter went nowhere and is more or less one-sided anyways. It had no strain. If they really developed Liz to have more depth and a mutual love and admiration for Peter it would be more painful, in a good way. But the tie doesn't hurt. It pays off when she has to move to Oregon(?) and is given a gentle boot for MJ to step into the shoes of the love interest. To which I ask, why not just have MJ be the main love interest in the first place? And I don't mean have Peter fawn over her the way he did with Liz, but in build a strong friendship that clearly indicates room for romance in the future. Start with some chemistry first. They know each other but I can't say they're even friends right now.
Also, I'm so glad they brought back Pepper and repaired her relationship with Tony. Honestly, I really missed her.
Also also! With Donald Glover’s role as Aaron Davis, Miles Morales totally exists in this universe as well! He even references having a nephew. I just really don't want them to kill off Peter Parker after the trilogy is over for Miles Morales. Keep them both! We can’t lose the best Spider-Man put to screen!
And the last after credits scene is clever as hell. Nothing special or big. Not baiting anymore movies or characters or plots. Just simple and new.
