#aang needs adult supervision

I just saw a post about all the past Avatars telling Aang he should murder Ozai, even Yangchen (just like in the show) and it made me think: Aang is just 12 when he run away, and when he wake up, he's the last Airbender and last person from his culture, but he is still a 12 year old! I think it's crazy how everything that he says about the Air Nomads philosophy and lifestyle is taken as true. No question. I don't think he had much time to fully comprehend his own culture and its point of view. We know that Monk Gyatso killed Fire Nation soldiers and even Avatar Yangchen implies that kill Ozai is an option that he must take because isn't about him, but the whole world.
How much of this "every life is sacred" is really true? Maybe it was just his interpretation based on his age. Besides, Aang as the Avatar should be loyal to the balance of the world not just his own nation. Shouldn't he, as part of each element, eat meat or at least wear some Water Tribe clothes? Korra eats meet, it doesn't make her less of an Airbender or Avatar.
I don't know, I just think that as someone who should represent all the nations and cultures and balance, Aang seems always pretty bias and unbalanced.
What do you think?
I agree. The Air Nomad culture was both a society and a philosophical (religious?) ideology. I am a Christian and American. When I think back on what I understood about either at age 12, it's insane to me that everyone just took Aang's word for it on Air Nomad teachings. When I think of how I was taught both American culture and religion at age 12, I wouldn't have been able to have complex discussions about either topic, let alone teach someone else about it. My understanding at age 12 was rudimentary at best. And having not had anything approaching a history class since I graduated (unless you count interesting YouTube videos, which considering one of my favorite history YouTubers is Oversimplified, you should absolutely not), I am only slightly more qualified to discuss American society at any length.
Also, understanding a topic doesn't mean there's not ongoing research and education that needs to happen. The best teachers and pastors I had understood that while they knew a lot, there was still a lot to learn, and they kept studying and learning even while they were teaching. Having studied a few languages and lapsing in all but one of them, I can tell you from experience that no matter how good you are at something, continued studies are important not just for learning, but for retaining the information you already 'mastered'.
Now consider Aang, who we never really see practicing any form of bending after "mastering" it. I highly doubt that despite being a 'master' of airbending at 12 that he was among the best benders in the Air Nomad society. He was absolutely a natural airbender, but being a natural at something doesn't equate to being the best. After all, a natural athlete still needs to be trained and conditioned. But Aang doesn't even really practice bending, not even airbending, after getting what has to amount to basics down. Oh sure, he uses his airbending, but we don't really see him actually practicing or putting much effort into getting better at it. There's no reason to believe that he would suddenly throw himself into becoming an expert on Air Nomad philosophy or customs. He was born into it, after all. He studied with the monks (who likely kept the lessons age-appropriate). Why should he study it?
It seems to me, and I would argue that canon supports me, that Aang is not only basing his decisions on a 12 year old's perspective of his culture and philosophy, as he gets older, he's probably not even retaining information to that level. I have to assume that by the time the Acolytes come around, the version of the Air Nomad belief system they're getting is probably mostly just Aang's own personal beliefs and very little actual Air Nomad philosophy.

This is exactly the kind of shit that drives me crazy...
Tumblr media
Again, it's going to get into people's heads when Atla would never have become the good animated series it is today if it had only been them in charge ?! Katara would have simply been Aang's girl ! (What she ironically becomes in the sequel in comics under their sole supervision !) Toph would not have existed, nor would Zuko's exceptional arc. Misery, the best episodes of the series do not come from them ! Stop glorifying them ! They had the basic idea, but it was developed by a whole competent team behind it ! When they are the only ones in charge it sucks ! The Atla comics are an abysmal disaster in terms of character characterization and many other things. What they did to Zuko, Katara and Aang is unforgivable. The Legend of Korra is filled with the same flaws as the original series but much worse and triple ! And they want to make an animated movie about the adult gaang and another animation series with the avatar as an earthbender ?! But stop the bloody massacre ! Also... do I need to remind you that your creators, darling, that you are complaining about are not on the adaptation project, therefore complaining about the future fidelity quality of the product... THEY VALIDATE THE MOVIE ! THIS MOVIE HATED BY EVERYONE, THEY SUPERVISED AND APPROVED IT, YOU FOOL ! It's not surprising that others are more respectful of the universe than the creators themselves who have always wiped their ass with the original series through the adaptation of the movie, the comics and the legend of Korra ! Damn people can be so stupid...

Characters that it would make more sense that Hakoda would adopt than Zuko
Sure, Zuko is abused, badly traumatized, and has an abusive father and missing mother, but there are three things which make it much less likely Hakoda would adopt him:
1. He, at least theoretically, already has a loving, adult caretaker(I could go on and on about the flaws with Iroh’s “parenting,” but it’s not like Zuko doesn’t have anyone).
2. He’s relatively old (unfortunately, teenagers are not exactly considered to be prime candidates for adoption). 16 years old might even count as “adult” by water tribe standards. Yue was “of marrying age” when she turned 16.
3.  He’s from an enemy nation(and to be clear, just about no “Hakoda adopts Zuko” fics I’m aware of begin postcanon or even after Zuko joins the Gaang).
4. He has a series of objectives which might involve doing stuff like “raiding the Southern Water Tribe, attacking Hakoda’s village, and threatening and inflicting violence on Hakoda’s family” in his search for the Avatar.
Who would make more sense for Hakoda to adopt?
Aang:
1. Relatively young (12 years old).
2. Suffered the genocide of his entire people and the death of his father figure, and is in desperate need of adult supervision as he deals with a nasty and trying set of responsibilities.
3. Is already very close with Hakoda’s children, to the extent he’s basically their adopted sibling.
4. Is already allied with Hakoda and fighting for a cause he supports.
Toph:
1. Relatively young (12 years of age).
2. Already an ally of Team Avatar, and is extremely close to them.
3. Very much “can’t go back home,” since her parents would imprison her if she did.
4. Could really benefit from adult supervision and support.
The Duke:
1. Orphan.
2. Only eight years old.
3. Not only is an ally of Hakoda but seems to have spent a substantial amount of time with him.
Jet, Smellerbee, Longshot:
1. Orphans with no adults looking out for them.
2. Seem to (at least potentially) be somewhat younger than Zuko.
3. Fighting on the same side of the war as Hakoda is.

Avatar Ty Lee AU: Stuff the Gaang does in the Fire Nation before the eclipse. Hama, pretending to be the Painted Lady, the school, and the play.
Lol again that's like half a book lmao rip. I do have all that in my notes though. I have up to 'The Firebending Masters' noted out. Some episodes are more fleshed out than others.
Anyway! Onto this bullshit! I'm gonna do this by episode because I can.
1: The Awakening:
A lot is the same as Canon. We even skip that time between books for everyone to recover.
People believe that at least one of the Avatars was killed. Ty Lee is fine, but still kinda sore. But still they decide to lay low for a bit and travel separately
Jin has been learning how to fight! She's not great but she's not entirely helpless either!
Meanwhile, popping over to Noriko and Ozai. She tells him straight up 'I think the one Avatar is dead, but I know better not to underestimate them. Still, we have more important things to plan with the Eclipse coming up so let's send an assassin to hunt them down for us."
2. The Headband.
Honestly I'm skipping parts of this. Mostly because the Fire Nation kids would know better than to be caught during 'school hours' so they wouldn't get dragged into a classroom.
They still do discuss a lot of the propaganda stuff the Fire Nation has going on. It's low-key been a theme throughout the series, but this has a focus on what is actually being taught.
The Gaang still does manage to interact with the local kids and decide to fuck shit up.
This is probably where they get word of what their old ship's crew has been up to on the whole sabotage front. Mostly just like. running into someone from the crew who recognizes them and updates them.
3. The Painted Lady
Most of this remains the same, but the discussion is more on like. Aftermath and a long term plan.
Right now they need to get rid of Fire Lord Ozai. But what happens after? And it's going to take years to repair the damage, both to the rest of the world but also to the Fire Nation itself. And some damage can't be repaired at all.
Plus like. Who's going to replace Ozai as Fire Lord? THey have to make sure it will be someone not hellbent on starting shit again.
Honestly a lot of Zuko's arc throughout this AU is focused on him taking the leader role so it definitely fits when he does take the throne afterward.
Episode 4: Sokka's Master
So! Obviously we're replacing Sokka's arc here with Jin's.
Because like. We have more non-benders in the Gaang right now. Plus Zuko who does Bend but also knows swords. So Sokka had enough time of learning to hone his skills with them, and they're all on equal ground including when sparring against the Benders.
But Jin only has a few months of on the fly training so she is the one who seeks out some master to teach her.
And yes she gets the meteorite sword!
5: The Beach
We get mostly them hanging on a beach and having an existential crisis and just kinda. Trauma dumping! But also with some genuine therapy.
Until Combustion Man ruins the night.
6: The Avatar and the Firelord
Honestly pretty the same but it's both Aang and Ty Lee getting a shared vision of what happened between Roku and Sozin.
7: The Runaway
So this both goes the same but differently.
Basically. When they first left the South Pole, Katara had been able to relax a little. Iroh was there playing the adult supervision/parental role. She didn't have to. She still was kind of the mother hen of the group, but it wasn't as major an anxiety.
Now that it's just the kids on their own, she's kind of. Overcompensating on being the Adult and such. Even though she's not the oldest at all but she's so used to having to be the adult anyway. She had that break and now it's full force.
Everyone is a little worried and maybe slightly annoyed. But Toph has the most pushback due to her previous relationship with her parents and her personality. So they end up in their fight.
We have more peaceful conflict resolution thanks to Sokka and Mai. Sokka is able to explain all the above to Toph. Meanwhile, Mai helps Katara realize why Toph responded the way she did.
They do come to a comprimise and having fun running a scam though. Then we get Combustion Man again damn it.
8: The Puppetmaster
This goes mostly the same actually. Like, obviously we face the 'half the group can relate to what Hama went through, and the other half feels guilt for what happened'. They try to talk her down from the whole bloodbending thing, but it doesn't work and they can't just leave her to keep harming the innocent townsfolk.
This is another one where it prompts more discussion. A lot of like. How the Elements can be terrifying. A Waterbender could Bloodbend, or drown someone on land. Earth can easily crush people. An Airbender could suck the air out of someone's lungs. And they all know how destructive Fire can be.
It ends somewhat happier. A reminder that those elements had both good and bad.
Though they struggle to find 'good' aspects of fire outside of the superficial.
This comes back later.
9; Nightmares and Daydreams
So. Somehwat similar on Aang's part here. ofc Ty Lee has been planning Ozai's death for years so she's not as nervous, but Aang, while good in combat, is not a combative person. And he's also nervous because Ty Lee's Elements aren't quiiite all learned.
However! Let's talk about Azula's nightmares instead!
Because honestly, she's terrified of her father. She doesn't show it, but she is. She always has been. And for the first 11 years of her life, her way to avoid his wrath was to do all that he asked. To be good for him. That if she wasn't....
Well. She's spent the past three years defying him. She's joined up with Team Avatar against him, and is helping take him down.
If he burned and banished Zuko for 'speaking out of turn', what will he do to her?
And more importantly, if faced with the choice of sticking by them or avoiding Ozai's anger, what would she really choose? It's easy when he's not around. When he can't get to her. But they're about to come face to face. What could happen then?
Of course she doesn't voice any of this.

People need to understand the circles of the gaang better, there’s the inner circle: Katara, Sokka, Aang, Zuko and Toph, there’s the honorary members: Teo, Suki and Haru, and there’s the ones that aren’t really a part of it, but should be: The Duke, Pipsqueak, Ty Lee and Mai (honorable mention to Hakoda and Iroh, for being the adult supervision)

Hey! Could you do 5 headcanons for the Gaang age swap AU? (Where Aang and Top are 16 and Zuko and Sokka are 12)? I don't know if you've done this one, but how would Zuko deal with the events in "The Beach"? I guess he won't get jealous and possessive over Mai, so his anger would have to manifest in some other way. Would he blow up over someone treating him like a cute little kid?
Universe tag: [Link].
Behold the unbridled fury that is Azula stuck on babysitting duty. She does her best to mask it, but it's humiliating to be sent away like this, with Zuko, to "vacation," aka to get out of the way while the adults work. Hasn't Azula demonstrated over and over again her usefulness and competence? Why would her father treat her this way?
Obviously it's Zuko. He needs somebody to keep an eye on Zuko, so he gave Azula the job. She resents this bitterly. She dumps him on Mai or Ty Lee whenever possible, and ditches him to go to a party, which turned out to be stupid anyway.
Zuko spends his vacation sulking and miserable... And quietly coming to some conclusions about the Fire Nation.
The day after the party, when they're all packing up to go home, which is to say Azula is "supervising" while the rest of them pack, Zuko complains about not getting to go to the party and being stuck at home while they had fun. Mai tells him it was a stupid party anyway, and Zuko yells at her not to treat him like a child.
Azula says, "We're all being treated like children, Zuko, stop acting like one."
And Zuko looks at his sister through new eyes.

How is Airbending culture affected by the fact that men and women inhabit separate temples? How would that affect the raising of their children? In fact what is life like for an air nomad child, given that they don't have families. Do they view children as something that inhibits freedom?
(I hope you don't mind me trying to restart a conversation we started on chapter 2 of "a mother's love")
First off, sorry it took me so long to answer this! I don't really have an excuse, I just forgot about it. Secondly... I anticipate this will probably be kinda long so I'll preemptively put a cut.
We'll start with what we know: children are born in the Eastern and/or Western Air Temples, which are inhabited by the nuns. Children of both sexes also seem to live there for a time before being separated some time after, definitely before the age of eleven or twelve.
I personally look at this and go "children are separated by sex around five or six", which is also when I headcanon most bending children would demonstrate some ability, so this would also be the point during which nonbending children are removed from Air Nomad society and are given to vetted families in the Fire Nation/Earth Kingdom around the temples. They'd have some memories before this point as they grow up, but probably not all that many. Because children are separated into two different temples and female children are likely mixed between East and West, regardless of which they were born in, it would be easy enough for children to forget about friends and assume they were sent to a different temple, if they didn't already know nonbending children are sent away.
The Air Nomads definitely don't have the concept of the nuclear family and children seem to be raised communally, first by the nuns and then by the monks (if male). I've seen some theories that children are assigned a particular guardian and Gyatso was Aang's, but I personally view in in more of a "Aang was special" case, needing advanced instruction by Gyatso. Otherwise this would lead to a lot of attachment. This means that Air Nomad children would automatically assume they can trust every adult and due to their smaller societies, they'd probably know everyone in their temple by name after a couple of years. This leads to Air Nomads being given a stereotype of being somewhat naive. I'd think younger children would sleep in communal dormitory like areas, getting separate rooms at around ten or so.
I also believe that children were allowed a lot more freedom of movement than in other nations, possibly being allowed to travel between temples in groups together with a bit of adult supervision from six or seven, with freedom growing and restrictions lessening as they age and gain mastery in airbending.
Because children are raised communally in this way, the biggest "restriction of freedom" there is in having children is the nine months in which pregnant nuns would have to take it easier (with probably the last five of those months including relative restriction to their temple). This was probably viewed as a somewhat unpleasant, but temporary process. There was none of the further restrictions involved in raising a child to adulthood for the mother. They probably had parentage records only for the purpose of avoiding inbreeding, if they had them at all (given the time period is... yeah).
Some Air Nomads look at their family records when they come of age, but few of them really care. It's mostly a "oh, that one kid I tutored was my little brother, cool!" or "huh, I am related to that girl that looks almost exactly like me".
The only real times family bonds are important is when it comes to twins. There are beliefs that twins are spiritually tied together and their spiritual growth can be harmed by separating them when they're too young, so twins are never separated. This means that fraternal twins of opposite sexes tend to spend half of their time in North/South Temples and East/West Temples, possibly splitting autumn and spring in half for it.
Because of this, aside from the odd twin, most children won't see members of the opposite sex on a day to day basis (although they regularly see each other while traveling and due to festivals). This can lead to awkwardness, but people try to counteract that as much as possible with travel and thorough health classes.
Romance is probably also interesting, but I don't even know how to approach that. I'd have to think on it more.

you know that ily right. these hcs are incredible ! this just brings me so much comfort, really I am just in love with all these traumatised kids interacting. And getting father figures. in love. Kaoru really told Joe "no more kids" and Joe went "well that can't stop me cuz every kid in need is my kid"
also sokka continuing kiyoshi training under kaoru and them quietly working on incredible projects next to each other and giving each other feedback and-
well I'm gonna stop it's still your AU but it lives in my head rent free and fed with love so-
ily <3
–💐
SO TRUE 💐
Joe really did just see a bunch of traumatised kids wandering around with adult supervision with a mission to save the world and said "damn is anyone going to adopt them?" and then didn't wait for an answer
this man just wants to see them all fed and safe, and he absolutely becomes pen-pals with Aang when the Gaang leave Kyoshi Island
SOKKA KEEPING UP WITH HIS KYOSHI TRAINING YEAH
i knew i was forgetting one of the dynamic's I'd been thinking of and it was the kaoru/sokka one!! i feel like they'd get along, again bc they're both very smart and i can imagine Kaoru having a semi-piandao semi-Jeong Jeong type feeling towards him. He definitely sees this young creative kid with an intelligent mind and a strong protective instinct and thinks "hm."
nono i love hearing other people's thoughts!! it helps me build the worlds up better because every idea someone else has gives me the opportunity to think more critically about it :D
ily2 my beloved, i hope you're doing well <3

Something that irks me about the comics is the way Aang was treated like a God. He's not a God, he's twelve. Any twelve year old I see I think is an absolute dummy cause at that age you're awkward and want desperately to be treated like an adult but your just starting to grow up so sit down and drink your apple juice Aang cause you need adult supervision like, yesterday.
Yeah...Aang's moments of "wisdom" were not that. The people who supported him in those moments were either acting incredibly OOC, or were not that bright to begin with themselves. Aang never showed any particular depth of thought. He had the POV of a child who grew up in a peaceful environment. His biggest conflict before he woke from the iceberg was probably how to score the last custard tart. Yes, let's make that kid a world leader 🙄

So, you have to stop messing around. Yes, Atla live action is not and will never be better than the original version but we have to stop spitting on it for that. Overall the series is very successful. I see some critics saying it's mediocre and that's blatantly bad faith. No, the actors don't play badly, quite the contrary. It's not the best acting in the world but they are still children who are doing very, very well and will continue to progress. They're not fucking disasters. The actors of Aang and Zuko are the best in my opinion. And if I still see someone criticizing the weight of the actresses for Azula and Mai... There are also critics who say the CCG is disgusting, uh sorry ? This is more of a bullshit, at this stage it's downright spitting. I've even seen people say that THE MOVIE WAS BETTER ?! WTF ?! A few days ago everyone was spitting on the movie, and now under the pretext of downgrading the series, we're going to say that it wasn't so bad now ?! And even downright better than this new version ?! But damn, this is mind-blowing bullshit. Also, if I hear one more complaint that it's bad that the original creators didn't have much input into the live action project... FUCK YOU ! It's going to get into people's heads when Atla would never have become the good animated series it is today if it had only been them in charge ?! Katara would have simply been Aang's girl ! fic idea - ursa and iroh were on really good terms and i’d even go so far as to call them friends. iroh was the only one of ozai’s family ursa could stand and always asked after lu ten and all around she trusted him more than her husband.
so, when her husband is told to kill his first born, ursa goes to iroh and tells him that her children aren’t safe from ozai and says that she has a plan. she begs iroh to take zuko and azula as far away from the fire nation as he can. she makes iroh promise.
so ursa leaves, ozai becomes firelord and iroh waits. he doesn’t want the entire fire nation after him deep in the heart of its capital so once ozai expresses a need for his children to learn strategy iroh seizes the chance.
iroh offers to take zuko and azula on a ship under his supervision as part of their training, to understand the soldiers they will command. ozai agrees, but only to letting azula go with him, he says zuko needs extra training or something idk but the idea is that zuko will be stuck at the palace (cause come on ozais not gonna let his brother out of his sight with both his kids). let’s say that zuko a fire bending teacher is a friend of irohs, a fellow white lotus, so all he has to do is call in that favor.
so zuko is smuggled onto the ship and iroh frames it as a surprise and suddenly all three of them are in open water with a commander loyal to iroh even if some of the crew isn’t.
from there, all it takes is one minor skirmish from either earth kingdom or water tribe members and iroh, zuko, and azula are being wished luck by the commander while they escape under the guise of being killed on a routine mission. news is sent to ozai of their deaths and he is enraged.
so basically, iroh raises both zuko and azula, and spends most of his time helping azula unlearn ozais toxic-ness. at first, there are a couple close calls because she realizes what he’s doing (and tries to alert the fire nation) but he wasn’t the dragon of the west for nothing, and she’s only a child, so he doesn’t give up.
zuko, meanwhile, doesn’t want to alert anyone because iroh promised him he was taking them to their mother. it’s not a lie, exactly, but it’s also not their immediate goal. so zuko does everything he can to help iroh get them to ursa and does his best to stop azula from trying to alert the fire nation.
this culminates is then going to ba sing se as refugees and opening the tea shop with his nephew and niece. azula keeps telling zuko that iroh is lying and it’s only after they’ve been in the city for 2 months with no sign or ursa that zuko finally confronts him.
iroh pulls out a letter from ursa saying that she asked iroh to keep the both of them safe from ozai until she could meet them in ba sing se. she asked them to be patient because it would take time for her to lose the fire nation guards that were after her, but that she is trying to find them.
with zuko satisfied, and azula’s tricks not working, iroh decides to enroll them in school. this leads to one last major hitch because azula is taken by the dai lee after she talked about the fire nation conquering the earth kingdom and threatening the city.
finally, iroh is forced to confront the heart of azula’s problems - her reliance on manipulation and control. it takes several months before he is able to undo the harm of both the dai lee and ozai but finally, azula starts to show progress. and almost a year and a half later, ursa finally makes her way to ba sing se. it is then that azula and her mother reconcile, that zuko has the support and attention he has always needed, and that they become a makeshift family trying to wait out the war.
they are careful to stay away from the dai lee and while iroh does teach both zuko and azula fire bending forms, it is in secret.
eventually, iroh hears whispers about the avatar coming to ba sing se and he leaves his tea shop to find him and offer his services as a fire bending master. the gaang don’t trust him at first, but after he reveals that he has been hiding the defectors of the royal family from the current firelord, aang relents and stays in ba sing se near them.
the dai lee catch on and eventually they all have to flee the city, but now the gaang has some adult supervision by way of iroh and ursa as well as a wealth of knowledge about the fire nation so they make their way around quite well.
they go to piandao who teaches both sokka and zuko, they go to jeong jeong as well and free hakoda and by the time the day of the black sun rolls around, ozai is defeated.

Modern gaang x emergency contacts
ahh i never thought about this one! creative!
modern atla masterpost :)
Zuko: Iroh, definitely. Used to be his father, but Iroh actually switched it before his father even went to prison. He did the same for Azula. He figured if they were in trouble or hurt, it would be best if Iroh were there first to assess the situation and figure out the best method for handling it with Ozai.
Azula: same as Zuko, for the same reasons. Unlike their parents, Iroh does not play favorites, and he loves them both like his own children.
Aang: Iroh, still. Honestly Iroh is willing to be a parental figure for anyone who needs one! Also listed is Hakoda, with the same philosophy as Iroh. Aang doesn’t have someone to look after him, as he’s supposed to be looking after the world, so Hakoda and Iroh stepped in for Adult Supervision Purposes
Katara: her dad, obviously, and also her stepdad Bato. YES IT’S CANON. MY AU MY RULES.
Sokka: the same as Katara. They’re functional siblings, this one should have been obvious.
Toph: her actual parents keep strict tabs over any parts of her life they can, so they’re listed as her official emergency contacts. But she has gone on record saying when she does inevitably end up arrested, her one phone call is going to be Iroh. (Iroh now always makes sure his phone is charged and on him. It’s gonna happen any day with that one.)
Suki: she has said multiple times that she “is her own emergency contact,” but in a more logical sense, it’s listed as her actual dad (that guy was her dad right?idk). It’ll be a cold day in hell when she does need an emergency contact though, as my girl is perfectly capable of handling herself.
Mai: She got pissed when they said she couldn’t write down Ty Lee, and settled for her actual parents. But she still is sure to tell Ty Lee first if any emergency ever comes up.
Ty Lee: her parents are way too busy with a total of 7 kids, and she does not want to bother them, so she asked Iroh if it was okay to write down his name. He said of course, and his list of kids who would trust him with their lives is growing by the minute.
Alright so there is that! This was actually a cool ask and definitely one I haven’t thought about before! Thanks for the suggestion!

Text
What if Azula was the older sibling and they had a good relationship?
In case it isn’t clear, the italized words that aren’t bolded are Azula’s thoughts. I have many feelings about Azula. It seems that the show forgot how young she was. She deserves better.
azula being hella protective of zuko. Innocent, sweet, kind, gentle Zuko.
They’re both in that meeting
Zuko still speaks up and Azula silently agrees with him
But Fire Nation propaganda is still a thing
She’s horrified with their father’s actions
How could he do that to Zuko? Stupid, reckless, impulsive Zuko.
When Zuko is banished she goes with him and Iroh
She has to protect her idiot little brother. Kind, gentle, stupid, precious, good Zuko.
Zuko and Azula training together with Iroh teaching/supervising
She helps him learn how to shoot lightning and Iroh teaches them both how to redirect it
She tries to help him keep his kind heart. Too kind for this world, so gentle, why is the world so cruel he’s just a kid.
She is branded a traitor alongside Zuko and Iroh. She’d do anything for her sweet little brother.
They both help Iroh with his tea shop. Uncle and Zuzu have such wonderful smiles. She needs to protect this happiness.
They both teach Aang how to firebend. He’s also just a kid. Why does the fate of the world depend on mere children? Where are the adults they need?
Sokka and Katara talk about their dad and Zuko and Azula learn what a father should be like. Why was father so cruel? Why did we have to suffer? Why was that abuse framed as normal?
Azula takes the throne, with Zuko as her right hand and most trusted adviser. Zuko, who always tried to do what was right. Zuko, who speaks for justice and kindness.
She illegalizes challenging minors to Agni Kies. No child should go through that. Adults need to be better. This is justice for her little brother. No more children will be burned by adults. Not if she can help it.
