Although this 19th century book is from a pro-United States position—like most early histories of the War of 1812—my first thought was that the family group that appears to be fleeing might be enslaved Black people seeking refuge with Admiral Cockburn. But this is actually a white family fleeing the British—and with good reason.

The admiral, his Scottish complexion reddened by the relentless Chesapeake sun, was in a good mood, having just completed a series of successful raids that had terrified residents along the Potomac shores of Virginia’s Northern Neck. At 2 a.m. on August 3, Cockburn had headed up the Yeocomico River, probing the inlet off the Potomac with a force of 500 sailors and Royal Marines in twenty barges. Among them, dressed in red coats, were a special company of 120 Colonial Marines—slaves who had escaped to the British from plantations in Virginia and Maryland, and trained to fight their former masters. Their use was a particularly brilliant and insidious stroke, unleashing deep-seated fears among the locals of a slave revolt.

Sir George Cockburn, as he appeared during the War of 1812 (NMM). As much as Cockburn clearly enjoying antagonizing the Americans ("After making a flourish or two there, sacking Leonards Town [on the Potomac’s Maryland shore] … I shall again move elsewhere, so as to distract Jonathan, do him all the mischief I can," he remarked on his strategy), it's hard to portray him as the villian in this situation.

It wasn't actually "Canadians" who torched the White House of enslaver James Madison in Cockburn's attack on Washington, it was his British regulars aided by Royal Navy sailors and Colonial Marines: "the escaped slaves would have the honor of entering the capital as conquerors."

I think it says something when you have a platoon of producers, good number of notable guests, yet you still flop and essentially get fired before even thinking about another season of the podcast. This confirms too that Spotify massaged the numbers, her squad as well tried to manipulate the number of plays per episode too. Also cements the fact that employees are in a revolving door, and she must be difficult to work with.

Notice how they always make a huge deal when they hire someone but only comment on someone leaving when the press finds out.

They have lost more staff in the 5 years they have been married than most corporations.

PERSONNEL; Stand of the Sentinels

Continuing with the black box shorts that are a small part of my  Horizon Big Bang 2022 piece, When the Darkness Comes, because I think these soldiers’ stories deserve to be heard (even if I made them up).

Stand of the Sentinels Black Box Transcript:

AIR CONTROL ROMEO: Negative, negative. You can't make the primary drop. So we're re-routing you to collect some personnel.

CAPTAIN RICHARDSON: Have you got a definite position on those machines?

AIR CONTROL ROMEO: Nothing's definite. But projections give you a safe window of 36 minutes.

CAPTAIN RICHARDSON: To load 200 people on to this plane?

AIR CONTROL ROMEO: 250. You're their only way out of there before the Swarm hits.

CAPTAIN RICHARDSON: Then you'd better tell them to be ready. And you'd better be right about that 36 minutes.

"You said they're coming down from the mountains up north?"

"Affirmative. Personnel are currently en route to the Marina Inn."

"Acknowledged."

Abby veered left, adjusting her course to fly directly south rather than west toward the Greenhouse, where she was originally meant to drop off emergency supplies. The Swarm had to be close if they felt the need to evacuate entirely.

 35 minutes.

She couldn't deny the view. With distant redwoods to the east and the Bay to the west, she followed the coastline south, eyes occasionally skirting to the gleaming skyline of San Francisco across the water.

 28 minutes.

She could see the hotel. Long rows of hundreds of cars were backed up—way more than the 250 personnel she was set to retrieve. No doubt nearby stragglers would be looking to hitch a ride.

 26 minutes.

A quick burst of static in her ear, then: "Richardson, I've just gotten a report; the Swarm is larger than anticipated and advancing rapidly on your location."

"How many? How rapidly?"

"I only know that the timeframe has changed. You're looking at 14 minutes."

"Fourteen minutes? I'll be lucky if I've landed by then, let alone–"

Before Richardson could finish her sentence, a projectile from a FAS-BOR7 Horus hit the underside of her plane, severing the cockpit from the cabin entirely.

Far below, only a few miles away, hundreds of people watched as their last source of hope crashed into a regional park. In the distance, an army of machines could barely be seen, scuttling like ants down the northern mountain range and along the coast.

There was only a moment of silence. Wide eyes and bated breath as people took in the scene. Then, slowly, like a trickle into a stream into a flood, people turned...and ran.

Central Park Sets Season 3 Premiere At AppleTV+ For September 9.

Season 3 of 20th Television Animation’s animated comedy Central Park will premiere Sept. 9 at AppleTV+. It will feature original cast member Kristen Bell who is rejoining the series as a new character, Abby, Paige’s little sister.

From creator, writer and executive producer Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith, the 13-episode third season of Central Park will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with three episodes, followed by one episode weekly every Friday thereafter through Nov. 18.

Guest stars this season include The Afterparty stars Sam Richardson, Ike Barinholtz, Ben Schwartz and Zoë Chao; Loot star Ron Funches; Hello, Jack star Jack McBrayer; as well as Amber Ruffin, Craig Robinson, Tim Meadows, David Alan Grier and more.

List of guest starring songwritters for the season will be announced on a later date. 

Additionally an album of the songs of the season by Hollywood Records/Walt Disney Records will release each week from September 9 trought Nov 18 featuring the song of each episode.
