Things I think about all the time regarding Peter B is how a lot of his movement feels almost like laziness but it's actually just an absurd amount of skill and experience. he's been doing this longer than anyone else there, so he knows how that villain speech is going to play out, doesn't look when he fires a web because he knows exactly where it's going to land, and he's absolutely able to predict where Miles is going to go and catch up to him when no one else can. because peter b has been at this longer than everyone else there and it's literally second nature to him. give me more middle aged experienced superheros please.

i like the lore that piandao trained zuko but i don't think it was exactly the wholesome adoption that people like to do with zuko and any father figures. like in my mind piandao receives a letter from the fire lord like "the crown prince sucks at firebending and you're the best swordsman in the nation so we are sending him to be trained. this is non-optional" and piandao's legitimately contemplating committing treason rather than compromise his values and then the end of the the letter is like "we know you're usually selective we'll pay whatever" and piandao's like. okay FINE please pay me an absolutely ridiculous amount. and ozai agrees bc anything to get his failson out of his hair and piandao sends the money to the white lotus to fund a resistance group in the earth kingdom
and baby zuko, that turtleduck-loving mama's boy theater nerd, arrives on his doorstep and this is where most people would have him change his tune but piandao's just like "sure he seems cute now but he'll grow up to do imperialism". he teaches zuko the dual swords, a commoner's weapon, bc the ideal path for this kid who seems way too nice to be part of the royal family is to give it all up. but he doesn't think that's gonna happen. like iroh comes for a visit and he also seems nicer than the rest of the royal family but he did the siege of ba sing se so like. what does it matter that zuko likes theater and turtleducks and his mommy? he can still hate the earth kingdom and water tribes.
all of this is going on in his head, of course. in his actual interactions with zuko he's a very kind and patient teacher. he knows ozai's a bad dad and he wants to at least try to help this kid onto a better path. but it's not until he hears about the banishment and reports of a guy in a theater mask with dual swords committing treason that he's actually like "oh shit maybe there's some hope for this kid after all"
and he only really adopts him post-canon when iroh fucks off to ba sing se and SOMEBODY needs to help this poor kid navigate fire nation politics and i guess that's gonna be me. okay actually i like him now :) maybe i'll set him up with sokka

(thanks Wikitionary)
The core problem of the Empire is that John is a failson. It's not that John is that-much-more-flawed or evil than anyone else in the story; he's arguably roughly as psychologically healthy as anyone besides, idk, Sex Pal the Incorruptible. (Sorry Cam you're great and I love you). The problem with John is that his flaws are magnified to an absolutely massive scale and, because he's God, there's no way of dealing with that.
He trusts his friends too much, which is fine except that his friends are Augustine and Mercymorn and they have very good reasons to not trust him in return.
And he's petty that someone took his stuff, except that 'his stuff' is the Earth and 'petty' in this case means running a war of indeterminate genocide for ten thousand years.
He's not terribly observant that his friend is going through it with regards to his mental health, except that said mental health stuff is G1deon intermittently blacking out and being Pyrrha.
And lastly and most importantly, he's embarrassed he did something bad and doesn't want to tell his friends about it, except that the thing he did was nuking the earth and eating the solar system, and he can make sure they never do find out by leaving out their memories.
I return again to Mercymorn's Acid Bath speech:
Tumblr media
but because he's God it's not like the Cohort can say "hey what if we just absorbed the Blood of Eden planets we took over into the Nine Houses instead of relocating them over and over."
and Augustine and Mercymorn can't say "okay but jokes aside seriously what is Alecto there's no way you made a human that badly."
or in other words, it's not that John is necessarily the worst person in the setting (hellooooooo Ianthe), it's that there are absolutely no accountability or checks on his human-sized flaws, and they have galaxy-sized consequences. He is a Kendall-Roy-sized failson and I am so looking forward to it all crashing down in season 4.

PLS PLS PLS can you tell us some of the ideas you have for carlos³ and hervé? they're soooo cute and i wonder how they grow up having charlos as parents
AH i actually got a bunch of asks about parents au which makes me soooo happy...
first off, i think these two are just so so spoiled beyond belief. I think charles absolutely is baby crazy about them and buys them anything they want, also loves to dress them up, and carlos PRETENDS like he is not but god he is always falling into the trap of like. oh if i get this for them theyll think im so cool and he does and they do and the cycle continues. these kids own every designer kids line and every toy ever released...i think neither of them end up having an interest in racing and neither carlos or charles try to push them into it. carlos really wants to be a football dad but carlos3 sucks at it so they give up when hes like a teenager...just play for fun...fatherly dreams crushed.....in their adult lives i think herve becomes a FASHION MODEL and carlos3 becomes uhhh a nondescript "businessman" aka he like. runs a vaguely motivating instagram account. he shows up at events. he definitely is getting any connections done through his dads. ldnskdn i need them to have a failson sorry...

when you know every last prominent online ~leftist intellectual~ who threw Syrians under the bus out of a childish need to preserve the idea that because Asad is currently on the outs with the US he's some kind of socialist liberator vanguard-bearer* and therefore actually bought the idea that the uprising was some CIA op shit, seeing those exact same people say and write perfectly good things about Palestine is this extra dose of infuriating because my first instinct is that I want to share them, I want to pass them on, but then I see the name and I fucking refuse to amplify these people even if their broken clocks are right today.
and meanwhile on twitter people are taking images of barrel-bombed Syrian cities, bleeding and crying Syrian children, and claiming they're from Gaza or even from Israel.
I absolutely don't begrudge Palestinians a shred of rhetoric or visibility. they need it. genocide is underway. it just makes me want to throw up to watch a certain kind of online clout-chaser exploit the complete abandonment of Syrians for the umpteenth time in order to clout-chase about Palestine. and people who either understandably don't know who they are, or who do and should fucking know better but apparently don't care or even buy it, laud them for it. twelve years of these people building themselves up on the bodies of Syrians whose memories they insult out loud and implicitly, in word and image and silence, and calling themselves the left.
----
*Asad ran black sites for the CIA, tried his damnedest to get in good with the US and Europe in the 2000s and pivoted back toward Iran only when it became clear that wouldn't work, and even before his failson antics his daddy joined the US's Gulf War coalition for money and free rein to keep occupying Lebanon. and somehow it's worth building an entire alternate reality to claim that he's a pillar of anti-imperial resistance, for...what, exactly? what does anybody win except smug certainty. I fucking hate it here. I always have to soothe myself by remembering when Dana al-Kurd had the integrity to come out and admit that she used to hold this position and then realized the sheer cognitive dissonance involved and changed her mind. sucks that I have exactly that one example to go back to.

“I am not going to spend my life training a man to see me as a human being.”
I find this absolutely speaks to my experience. The kids and I STILL talk about how much immediately cleaner the house got once I threw my ex-husband out.
Seriously--two school-age children, three cats, and me. And the house got CLEANER once the adult male was tossed out on his ear. I went and got a dog—TWO dogs--and it was STILL CLEANER.
Not only that, but we suddenly had money, because it wasn't being wasted on bullshit. It was a revelation. That divorce was the best thing to ever happen to me and my kids.
All these men butthurt because women aren't picking up after them or servicing them anymore. Go ahead and cry, failsons. Just do it in your own shitty rented rooms full of rubbish, we don't want to hear it.

I'm curious how you'd imagine a full blooded wyrm would regard a wyrm hybrid child of an ascended wyrm, like in Hornet's case? (pff aside from the obvious kill death kill kill)
It depends on the individual wyrm, really! It's hard to say exactly what they'd think as a whole because wyrms are not social animals, so while they value power and resources, there aren't really any standards about what's 'acceptable' and what not. Some wyrms would likely find it a waste, and a dilution of the bloodline, both others might consider it to be quite clever- a way of ensuring that their legacy lives on if their fullblood brood fails, and a means of securing their hold on their kingdoms beyond what another god can shake from them. Demigod hybrids, I imagine, are rare to almost unheard of among wyrmkin due to the strongly independant and controlling nature that many posess, but I don't think that PK is the only wyrm-demigod sire out there, even if he's unique in that he chose to permanantly modify his physical form to live among bugs (I imagine conception with other wyrm gods would be either spiritual or with an avatar they summon for the deed alone). Most would be too preoccupied with their own lives to bother though I feel, and if a wyrm found a wyrm-hybrid demigod, the same 'mate or die' rules would apply. Hornet's a rare breed indeed
...I only just realized that you didn't specify demigod hybrids specifically. Oops. In the case of other Higher Beings x Wyrmkin offspring, however, I feel like the same rules apply, albiet that it's far more common than mating with a mortal. It's typically limited to more daring or curious wyrms, yes, but a core part of determining if a mate is worthy is 'how quickly can it kill me/how brave is it to try', which is a standard that many Higher Beings can meet just fine. They're still not very common, but they're also not uncommon enough to be unheard of. Wyrms that produce them are kind of like the alienfuckers of their kind- more common than you'd think, but still in the shadows. And even a wyrm with diverse sexual interests would still prefer to destroy a rival and expand their territory rather than mate most of the time
I CAN tell you that PK's mother would be disgusted with him for refusing to sire any fullblood god-heirs and watering down his bloodline with mortals though (that is, if she ever bothered to check in on her cringe failson). At least, until she meets Hornet. Then she'd be singing praises about her spirit, strength, and cunning while also betrating PK about how he's less of a wyrm than the spider he used to create her and it would be an entire shitshow that Hornet would have absolutely no idea how to feel about

Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Season 2 Episode 5 Review
- Happy Birthday is forever doomed, and that greenhouse does nothing but destroy relationships. God, I am suffer
- Sadly, Miorine fell for Prospera’s provocation and decided to team up with her, but on the condition that she leaves Suletta alone. But that’s perfectly fine for Prospera, Suletta doesn’t matter to her. She’s just a replacement daughter, and now that Aerial has hit Permet 7 or 8, she doesn’t need her.
- Shaddiq has the worlds most punchable face, but he is playing the game smart. Peil was an obvious wildcard, so he’s decided to partner with them in order to get them out of the way. And it looks like he already got his father out of the way too. RIP Sarius, you were the only good parent.
- Jeturk House is a literal found family and I can’t stop crying. They all love each other so much. It seems Petra and Lauda are dating and Felsi just learned about it. Also, the fact that Lauda loved his brother and wanted to support him from day one is sweet. God I hope nothing bad happens to any of them.
- The callbacks and dark reflections in this episode to Episodes 1 and 3 have slayed me. The end of the episode was an exact copy of the end of episode 1, but this time, Miorine is saying goodbye instead of hello, all underneath a darkened sky compared to the bright dawn we originally saw. The entire dueling room and then elevator-hallway scene was an exact copy of Episode 3, so much so that they reused Secelia’s animation. Since the three main characters this episode were Suletta, Miorine, and Guel, it makes sense to bring back references to the episodes that started their character development in the first place
- also somebody gotta glue Secelia’s ass to that couch cause every time she gets up some bad shit happens
- Guel and Suletta’s scene at the greenhouse made me feel like I was walking on air. Guel has grown so much and has decided to be honest with his feelings, and you can tell just how happy those words made Suletta. But at the end of the day, Suletta loves Miorine, and Guel supports her. He isn’t that selfish jerk we saw in episode 1 anymore. He wants what’s best for others to, not just himself. But also the GueSule shipper in me was crying a bit
- But that beautiful scene in the greenhouse leads to Miorine strengthening her resolve to give Suletta a good life, even if it means hurting her. She’s willing to work with Guel, someone she absolutely hated, because she knows he loves her just as much as she does, and all they want is for Suletta to be happy. The fact that Miorine is willing to sacrifice herself and enter a marriage she doesn’t want is heartbreaking, but there’s no one else she can trust.
- The scene where Guel says there’s no world without Gundams and weapons hurts a whole lot. Miorine and Suletta, despite all they’ve gone through, still haven’t seen the true harshness of the world. Guel, who’s experienced even just a fraction of what horrible things are taking place, can’t see any world where peace is absolute.
- Guel suffering from PTSD makes so much sense. As much as we like to meme that suffering builds character, what it ultimately did was fuck up Guel’s life forever. He’ll always carry the trauma of killing his father, but as we saw in this episode, the impassioned cries of his family is what snaps him out of it. Really, between Chuchu and Guel, I think Felsi has the magic voice ready to heal trauma. Maybe she should hang out with Suletta after this ep
- All right, this is going to be a long fucking section about El5n, because I genuinely have so many thoughts rotating in my head about this failson. First, the greenhouse scene. Seeing the way he so violently assaults Suletta out of desperation is terrifying. He’s being pushed to the absolute brink. He even brought a taser just to knock Suletta out. It’s a large change compared to his usual “just smile and wave” and I think it’s wholly because of last episode. El5n had his mind violated by Eri, the one place that not even Peil could assault and change. And that combined with Belmeria’s whining set off a bomb inside him. He realized in that moment that he will never be safe as long as he plays by Peil’s books. Any more attempts of hijacking the Aerial would continue to hurt the one thing he has control of, his mind, and if he sticks with Peil any longer, he’s going to die
- But what hit me the hardest was his anger at Suletta’s cries for Elan, specifically the line “The man you’re thinking of isn’t here.” It’s a short line but packed with so many meanings. First of which, the simple one being that El5n finally lets the cat out of the bag, stating that he and El4n are two different people. But looking at it deeper, we can see more to this statement. The second meaning could be the intense hatred he possibly feels towards the original Elan. That the man Suletta thinks he is has been hiding behind body doubles and living his life without even sparing a single thought towards her. The third meaning is that El5n is pissed that El4n is dead, and that Suletta’s cries for him just make his grieving so much worse. Fourth, and finally, is the fact that El5n doesn’t want to be a replacement for Elan, he wants to be his only person. All Suletta can see is Elan, not the kid underneath the mask, and that hurts him. The fact that his very identity and status as a person has been torn away is sick, but no one but him knows.
- But before any more of his true self can pour out, Guel comes in to protect Suletta, just twisting the knife further into El5n. He’s had no one to stand up for and protect him, he’s alone from everyone, separated by a mask. And the fact that the one who comes to Suletta’s rescue is a man who’s lived in luxury and hasn’t struggled a day in his life (at least on El5n’s eyes) is even more painful. The final shot was the “What are you afraid of?” line Guel says to him. Cause for the first time, someone has finally seen the pain and hurt he’s going through, and it happens to be some spoiled rich kid. But really, what is El5n afraid of? Is it a physical death or a spiritual death? Is he willing to wear the mask of Elan as long as he isn’t incinerated, or does he not want to lose his true self?
- Ultimately this retrospection El5n goes through is hidden to us, but we see the outcome. In which he’s chilling in a room with Norea and Nika for no reason. Truly a king. The dub said this line, but El5n feels like Norea is a kindred spirit. Someone who can understand what he’s going through and the amount of rage bottled up inside him at the unfairness of his situation. God, I hope these two end up together, or at least as partners. They need to fix each other so bad
- But where does El5n go from here? He can’t hang out with Peil anymore, so will he cooperate with Shaddiq? But Shaddiq is now working with Peil so that would cause some issues. Will he go full scorched earth at the presidential elections and air everyone’s dirty laundry? I think that would be an amazingly funny moment. Will he and Norea bond over their tragic pasts? I want to dig into his backstory so fucking much, but I know that doing so would only hurt me further
- Also small detail but El5n saying to Nika that her friends missed her was pretty sweet. He understands what it’s like to feel alone so he reassures Nika that she isn’t.
- When the happy birthday song came in and Suletta pulled out the big fucking gun, I got scared for Guel. We’ve already seen that thing eviscerate a mobile suit’s legs, so it’d probably have killed Guel if Mio didn’t step in. But still, who the fuck decided to put that song in there?! This isn’t funny anymore Okouchi
- God, Suletta’s love for Miorine hurts so badly. She wants to be properly married and do everything a married couple can, but in the end, it’s taken from her. Suletta’s codependency on her mother, Aerial, and Miorine is not healthy, and she needs to experience the loss of these things in order to grow as a person. But the real question is will she regress or progress? She still has Earth House, who are filled with nothing but the sweetest children, but she could also be taken advantage of by Shaddiq or simply dig herself into a hole. In the end, it’s all Suletta’s choice. She has to find strength within herself
- Miorine hesitated when hearing about Suletta’s dreams for the future. She wants just what Suletta wants, a happy life with the one she loves. But in Miorine’s mind, as long as Suletta is tied to the Aerial, her mother, and her, then Suletta will forever be stuck and taken advantage of. Miorine is willing to play the bad guy, no matter how much it hurts her, because she loves Suletta. She’s become the person she hated so much, her father, and you can feel the pain it’s causing her.
- Guel and Miorine feeling extremely guilty for what they did just means that Jeturk finally took another L. Though I hope Guel will be able to help Miorine realize it’s okay for her to love Suletta
- Ever Eri feels bad for what happened, but it also seems like she’s moved onto a higher plane, possibly within Prospera’s mask. I guess if she really is gone, that means the Aerial is back to killing people status. Or maybe it’ll find a new leech?
Guel claiming a W but still getting an L is perfectly on brand. The lesbians are going through a divorce arc. And I can’t believe I spent that much talking about El5n when he only showed up for like 3 minutes. All of our characters are suffering but Shaddiq, the bastard
