@storyseekers event 11 : travel — the henna wars for @lukejulies
like everything in the world has fallen away to make space for this moment, for the rhythmic breathing of the two of us, side by side. despite the cold, the rain, and the damp, the warmth of flávia’s body is a palpitating thing next to me. the heat of her is stronger than any irish sun.

I read The Henna Wars by Adiba Jagirdar today and is this how cishet white men feel all the time???? a book about a queer desi girl is all I've ever needed tbh. if I see someone saying representation doesn't matter I *will* be throwing hands.

16. what is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
6. was there anything you meant to read but never got around to?
aaaa probably the henna wars by adiba jagirdar and on earth we're briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong
11. what was your favorite book that has been out for a while but you just now read?
sabriel by garth nix!!! ive been meaning to read this book since like fifth grade but never did?? and then i read it after buying from a bargain bookshop earlier this year and fell in love 💓🥺
16. what is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
okay so it's not really a recent release or anything, but simon vs. the homosapiens agenda by becky albertalli. it was okay! it was cute!! but i didn't really find it super memorable or profound. like the book was kinda marketed as this really revolutionary & emotional narrative for queer teens everwhere, and although i enjoyed reading it, i just didn't resonate with it on such a personal level.
thank u again for the ask!! also just gonna put here,, if u have an account let's be friends on goodreads!!

hi eta! this is your storyseekers anon and my recommendation is the henna wars by adiba jagirdar. i noticed that it was on your tbr on your goodreads, and it's an contemporary lgbtq+ romance set in ireland! the tw's are instances of racism (cultural appropriation and otherwise), homophobia, bullying, and a character being outed. i hope that you enjoy the book and have a wonderful rest of your weekend!!
heya anon!! the henna wars has been on my tbr for agess so thanks for the push :) thank you, and back at you <3

favorite line out of every book you’ve ever read?
okay so if i did every single book i’ve read i would be here all night so i’m just gonna do the books i’ve rated five stars on goodreads
crooked kingdom, leigh bardugo
but what about the rest of us? what about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? we learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. we learn to wring magic from the ordinary. that was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. when the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway.
the poppy war, r.f. kuang
war doesn't determine who's right. war determines who remains.
the dragon republic, r.f. kuang
but eventually, you'll have to ask yourself precisely what you're fighting for. and you'll have to find a reason to live past vengeance.
catching fire, suzanne collins
you know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him.
born a crime, trevor noah
we tell people to follow their dreams, but you can only dream of what you can imagine, and, depending on where you come from, your imagination can be quite limited.
percy jackson and the last olympian, rick riordan
the world was collapsing, and the only thing that really mattered to me was that she was alive.
the seven husbands of evelyn hugo, taylor jenkins reid
you do not know how fast you have been running, how hard you have been working, how truly exhausted you are, until somewhat stands behind you and says, “it’s ok, you can fall down now. i’ll catch you.”
the henna wars by adiba jagirdar
“doctor, teacher, engineer, our nishat could be anything she wants to be,” abbu says, clapping me on the back proudly. it's the most he's said to me in weeks, but there's a plasticity to his smile, a solemness to his voice. nishat can be anything she wants to be, except herself.
the alice network by kate quinn
hope was such a painful thing, far more painful than rage.
