Ok, today this thought is wandering around in my mind (or theory, call it what you want😅). We all remember the first dream of yona, right?
Tumblr media
In this dream hak died but in fact he lived. In the dream with the dragons she saw that all the dragons except zeno were dead.
Tumblr media
So my thought is that maybe zeno is the one who will die and everyone else lives in the end (because everything is done upside down from what it seems so...🤔) .
Either way, this is a thought that crossed my mind. I don't know how the story will turn out but ofc I can't wait to see what will happen afterwards😁.

【AkaYona】 SuHak
pale blue solace
“The beautiful smile of a boy he once loved. And before midnight falls upon the palace, before the silver strain of clouds morph into the glint of a sword’s edge, dipped in the blood of betrayal — a passage between death and life — there is the distinct, somber shade of pale blue.”
- pale blue solace by foggydevil
I originally drew this SuHak last year as a birthday gift for my precious friend Lumen (@/Ann_archyy) on Twitter~ Manifesting SuHak!
Happy birthday Lumen!
@soo-won
Thank you so much to both you and Project Vinland's hard work for your translations, including on series like AkaYona! You're really our strongest soldier. I also have gift arts in mind for you this year!
Sending you lots of love~ I'm happy to have met you and be your friend. I always have fun talking to you! You're so funny and your thought rambles and character analysis/meta posts really inspire me.
I always feel like seeing my friends' works reignites my love for this ship. And of course, seeing everyones' passion for it! It makes me remember what I love so much about the ship.
When I drew this last year, I wanted to make their expressions soft and tender. Suwon was very fun to draw :) I loved drawing Suwon and his hair, heehee. Thank you king!!! 👑 And Hak's colours were fun. I love warm lighting, and colouring gold, so this was a treat 😌✨
This was inspired by foggydevil's SuHak fic, pale blue solace
I had the mood and atmosphere of the fic in mind while I drew! Her SuHak fic is beautifully written. I love reading her writing, it's so atmospheric and poetic... I love the prose. Her writing style reminds me of poems... It was pale blue solace that inspired me to choose the colours and atmosphere in this.
The rest of my rambles will be under the cut!
I was thinking about Suwon's association to gold and the warmth of the sun, so I chose more cool colours for Hak and the shadows of his clothes 🙏
I'm happy that my friends said they could feel the atmosphere of pale blue solace in this drawing due to the contrast between golden colours and pale colours. Sun/Moon symbolism...
The gold tones are a reference to Suwon who is the sun. I love the colours of the 2nd one. I chose those colours for warm and cool colours contrast, and I also chose the cooler toned one to match the atmosphere of pale blue solace!
No matter how bad AkaYona got and decayed in terms of writing quality, I'm still so glad I met many of my friends because of it <3 I’m glad for everyone’s team effort in creating SuHak content~ It makes up for how badly written Ch. 243 was.
Our friend circle is why I got into Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, one of the most important and personal series to me ever. Thank you!
CSP lags every time I open the file cuz it's so big. Alas I'd love to redraw this someday.
Also love black hair x blonde hair pairings. Wahoo!

Things I said I was going to do that I actually need to do in order to keep the hiatus brain at bay for this month:
- that fucking RWBY manga analysis post about Ruby's characterization
- redo my pinned Kyoko post to make it less rambling
- Ruby Rose Saw Summer Rose Get Grimm-napped I Know She Did You Can't Hide It From My CRWBY
- catch up on Akayona, goddamn I've been slacking
- answer my fucking asks

This is my second character analysis and I honestly don't know if I succeeded, but I hope I managed to convey what a wonderful and complex character Hak is. I tagged @yonaks as promised.
-
Hak's wonderful and complex character. He went way to change and succeeded (maybe incompletely because I think to heal until the end he eventually need to confront with Suwon),The present arc just showed how Hak has developed from Chapter 1 to now.
At the beginning of the series, he seemed to be focused solely on Yona and his loyalty to Suwon. It was true, but the Hak of the Beginning was more than just a love interest. He has never been just a love interest and is definitely not only a love interest, his life isn't just about Yona.Hak's a separate character with his own experiences, traumas with a big heart, kindness and loyalty.
The Hak from the beginning knew Yona's feelings towards Suwon, so he pushed aside his own happiness and love and focused entirely on Yona and Suwon's happiness.
Hak's confirmed that all he wanted was to serve alongside Yona and Suwon.
Tumblr media
This monologue was spoken in Awa arc, where jeaha immediately noticed Haku's feelings for Yona and his hopeless situation. Hak pushed aside his own happiness for the happiness of his friends.
Jeaha he perfectly stated that Yona and Hak "seem close, but they're separated by a certain distance"
Tumblr media
The distance was between them because Hak,didn't want his desire to prevail over him.It is obvious. He expected nothing from Yona. He only wanted the good of his friends, even though he was making himself miserable.
Suwon's betrayal was more very shocking and truamatic to Hak than Yona.Everything he dreamed about was ruined by what Suwon did. Yona managed to come to terms with it faster, while Hak pretended that everything was fine, pretended that he was strong. At the end of Awa arc he had a thirst for blood confirms that Hak it was all directed towards one person Suwon.
He went through the first breakdown. When he met Suwon in the water clan.He was out of control,it only shows how much Hak was hurt by the betrayal of a person whom he respected so much and considered his best friend
Tumblr media
Jeaha said he's in the dark all the time and that's true. When Riri and Yona were kidnapped to a labor camp. When he heard Suwon, he had the same thing, that when he dug his fingers against the wall, his fingers were full of blood, yet they cooperated.
At first, Hak wanted to do everything himself. To take on himself the protection of the princess, because he did not think that he could not trust anyone, he closed his own heart.
Gradually, Hak began to change. We see his real smiles. He is as cute as smiles things, more handsome. What's more, Hak admitted that he was grateful to the dragons for being with him because he wouldn't save the princess himself and would not protect her himself.
Tumblr media
shows gratitude with a hug. He opened his heart to a new family.
Tumblr media
Then he nervously shouted Yona what he felt for her (I really would like to hear it in a voice) I think that helped him in some way too, because he had to always suppress his feelings and finally started to say what he thought about her.
Hak first objected to Yona when she decided to return to the castle. You can see how much it broke Hak, how badly he needs healing, how much he is traumatized
Tumblr media
He finally got stabilized, had a new family and had to go back to the trauma (I know he has to work through his trauma) but finally he started to say what to think and not be that obedient to Yona.He began to express feelings.
In the current arc he wasn't allowed into the castle. He cared for dragons in combat shows and joined the army.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite his own trauma, he decided to join the army, where he made a good impression and trained the soldiers of the sky clan. After that, he was put in prison, after all, he trained there and intended not to run away.
Then she despaired, and he fought not only for Yona, but for the family and soldiers of the enemy. He begged for rescue that came.
Conclusion: Initially Hak, suppresses many emotions, mostly feelings for Yona. He was introverted. He suffered from the betrayal of Suwon and it was difficult for him to open his heart to a new family, he was distrustful, and over time he appreciated the four dragons and began to say what he thought, he opened his heart to the new family and began to express his own emotions, even towards Yona.At first he thought about Yona and Suwon's feelings. He began to think about himself and his own feelings. He's still deeply wounded, yet he does his best to be useful. Now he protects not only Yon but his own family. Hook needs to overcome his own trauma eventually, but he does everything in his power to be useful nonetheless.

I’m a bit tired of writing the same argument over and over again, so i’ll just copy and paste my reasonings as to why Yuhon didn’t kill Kashi or plan to kill Yona.
It’s impossible to view Kashi and Yona as threats when he didn’t even believe in them and their powers. It’s not consistent with his character at all.
1) The whole flashback arc does show that Yuhon is violent and resorts to murderous methods, but that’s usually to people who pose as an actual threat to people he loves, ie the priests to Yonhi. His behavior towards other nations doesn’t quite surprise me because like... it’s war? when it’s war, especially in those times, is he required to give a damn about other countries? who threaten your own? and remember, literally no one in kouka had a problem with his ways. The only ones who were shown to be displeased, was literally only Il, Yonhi, and possibly Junam.
2) Yuhon’s character is similar to Hak and Geuntae. He’s blunt, sees the first thing that comes to mind logically as his first solution, the kind of “can’t you just...?” kind of guy. This is why he didn’t kill Kashi or planned to kill Yona. Kashi’s official death report was killed by bandits in her way to visit Yonhi. Exhibit A; Yuhon displays to the world the heads of the hostages they took during the war without hesitation. Exhibit B; Yuhon kills practically all the priests in a fire and immediately comes out to Yonhi about it when he didn’t need to tell his wife about his genocide. The problem? Yuhon’s character doesn’t kill people in such a secretive way. He’s bold about it, dare I say proud. Everyone knows he’s a murderer, and literally fine with it. They know he’s ruthless. He has no reason to kill Kashi in such a discreet way, such a suspicious way. Bandits? Really? Please.
3) His beliefs. Yuhon did believe that Hiryuu exists, but as a heavenly figure and nothing else. Hiryuu is a belief, a religion. A story, a fairytale. In his last moments, he even says that Kashi was lying to the very end. He never believed in her powers, so why the hell would he believe Yona is Hiryuu?? The man literally had no reason to kill them or try to kill them because of his own beliefs.
4) His values. Yuhon loves and cares about people. He destroys other countries because he wants Kouka to prosper. His relationship with the people is exemplary to the point basically everyone in town is chill with him. The last straw with the priests (again, *the last straw*. He didn’t harm them before because they weren’t directly a threat to people he loved) was because they were a threat to Yonhi because they were aware of her origins of Hiryuu, which leads to the illness that will kill her. He loves people first, and that’s why he is cruel. Killing Kashi and Yona means taking away the two most important people in Il’s life. He said it and promised himself; that he would no longer meddle in his brother’s happiness. Yuhon had no reason to kill or plan to kill either of them, in actuality had even more reason to not kill them.
5) The writing itself. Through flashbacks, we are shown Yuhon’s direct character with our own eyes. In the final confrontation between him and Il, there is one phrase that was purposefully written to be ambiguous.
“I would have/I let it slide because she was a mere shrine maiden apprentice”.
From a writer’s standpoint, this is the potential reveal of the villain. The reveal of the man who killed the protagonist’s mother, potentially after the protagonist’s life. Yet, why was it written so ambiguously? Why did Yuhon, who admitted he lied about knowing Kashi’s identity, continue the lie of not killing Kashi to his last breath? Why, why, why—is the whole topic still coming up even currently in the story? If we know he’s the big bad, why keep bringing it up and questioning whether he is? Because he wasn’t. He didn’t kill Kashi or plan to kill Yona that day. As a writer, purposefully formatting this information in the way that it’s shown to us is to place doubt within the reader. To have the reader prejudice their thoughts on Yuhon and perceive it as truth, but when it’s revealed, we can go back and see that Kusanagi wasn’t lying to us. Kusanagi purposefully wrote these sequences in an ambiguous way because we’re supposed to doubt it.
Yuhon definetely had capabilities to kill people. But his criminal MO is inconsistent if he had tried to kill Kashi and Yona that day. Both the way Kashi was killed, and the reason for it. It’s the most inconsistent thing from his character, and if Kusanagi is good at one thing, it’s making damn consistent characters.

Chapter 185
I think this latest chapter and the 'hug' reinforces the fact that Yona, once trained, would arguably be a better monarch than Hak or Soo Won or Il.
I have been a harsh critic of her choices, and honestly I still think Soo Won is miles ahead as a strategist. However, I doubt he or Hak have the raw emotional strength and compassion it takes to forgive the murderer of your father or to comfort/embrace that person in pain. Putting your trauma aside and looking at things objectively, understanding where someone is coming from, and actually acting in the country's best interest. The level headedness and courage that would take cannot be learned, unlike polity or military tactics.
That's the kind of person you'd want to rule the country - not a devious strategist like Soo Won, not an emotional general like Hak, and not a pacifist like Il.
Soo Won always had the upper hand, emotionally or politically since the start of the manga, but him doubling over in pain and the one to comfort him was the same girl whose feelings he trampled all over. The poetic justice has me in awe.
now pls excuse me, i need to cry over my child's death flags.

An Analysis of Akatsuki no Yona Chapter 178
If you haven’t heard, the translations for Chapter 178 have just come out, so I suggest you read that first before reading this post. The dialogue of the chapter has outright confirmed my analysis of Yona's decision here, so I won't be analyzing that again. I will, however, touch upon other topics of import that came up during the chapter in this post. Feel free to reblog for further public discussion. For the sake of simplicity, I will use the first spelling denoted in each header for every character.
Keishuk/Kye-Sook
I think I'm not the first person to say that I hated Keishuk at first sight. He's smug, cold, snake-like -- he's like Gin Ichimaru, except without that damnably likable, cheeky, trolling personality.
That being said, this chapter paints Keishuk in a new light. For a long time many of us have suspected that Keishuk has been manipulating Suwon, possibly even planning to betray him at one point - but this chapter seems to confirm that Keishuk is loyal to Suwon, or at least his goals, even if that means he has to act behind his chosen king's back and make this offer to Yona.
Another thing that makes him more likable is how he deals with Judoh. He refuses to allow Judoh's personal feelings get in the way of the good of the country, and straight up calls him out on it. That further underlines the fact that, despite his faults, Keishuk honestly does care about the good of Kouka. He just has differing views from Yona about how the recovery and prosperity of the country can be achieved.
Judoh/Ju-Doh/Joo-Doh
Speaking of Judoh, aren't we all glad that someone finally called him out on his bs? Even if it is Keishuk who did it, we can't deny that it's been a long time coming. Ever since the Nadai arc, Judoh's obsession with killing Hak (either by his hand or Suwon's) has reached dangerous heights.
Of course, initially we thought it was because Hak was a threat to Suwon. Later chapters implied that while that's part of it, Judoh's issues with Hak stemmed from long before Suwon. Here, in this chapter, Keishuk all but confirms it - Judoh has hated Hak for a very long time.
This chapter also gives further clarification as to why, and it's the reason we all saw coming: jealousy. And why wouldn't he be jealous? Judoh is the general of the Sky Tribe, the royal tribe that holds Hiryuu castle, that holds the throne. And yet, despite his position, he's lived in the shadows of others for years: first Guen-Tae, then Hak.
With Guen-Tae it was easy to ignore. The man was older, a decorated general who fought side-by-side with Prince Yuhon back in the day. He was Judoh's senior, so of course he'd be better. It was something to be expected. Judoh couldn't resent something that was simply part of the natural order of things.
But with Hak? Hak is little more than half Judoh's age. And yet by the time he was eighteen, he was general of the Wind Tribe. He had beaten Guen-Tae, Judoh's better, when he was just a kid. Worst yet, King Il passed Judoh over in favor of Hak when assigning Yona's bodyguard, a position that was traditionally given to someone like Judoh. Hell, there were even rumors that Il was planning to arrange a marraige between them.
Oh, that must have grated on him. If those rumors were true, that meant Il had essentially chosen Hak as his heir, over the men of the Sky Tribe like Judoh and Suwon. I highly doubt Judoh actually wanted to marry Yona or be king, but he'd probably would've liked being considered at least. Plus, if Hak actually did marry Yona and became king, that meant Judoh would have to serve him - this orphan kid from the Wind Tribe who had gotten lucky enough to be adopted by the previous general, who had been overshadowing Judoh since before he had barely hit puberty. It must've felt humiliating.
And the most ironic part? Judoh is still in Hak's shadow even now. This recent battle with the Tully tribe all but proves it. Even with Hak on the run, having given up his own name and generalship over the Wind Tribe, he still manages to outdo Judoh at every turn. There's no way Judoh is unaware of it, and there is no doubt it's gnawing at him even now.
Deep down, Judoh fears Hak. Let's face it, if the coup hadn't involved killing King Il, Hak would be Suwon's most trusted lieutenant, not Judoh. If Suwon had just married Yona like how Hak and Yona wanted him to, Hak would be by their sides, every step of the way, leading Suwon's forces and soaking up all the glory that Judoh is implied to want. And while reconciliation between Hak and Suwon is impossible now, there's still that nagging little fear inside that maybe, just maybe, they might be able to work past it and work together again. And if that happens, where will that leave Judoh? He'll be left behind yet again.
And say, what if Hak succeeds in killing Suwon? Or Suwon dies from some other means? The throne will default to Yona, as Suwon's closest living relative and Il's original heir to begin with. If Judoh doesn't find himself executed or exiled, he could lose his position. And even if he doesn't, even if Yona finds it in her heart to forgive him, to trust him again, he'll be serving Hak, because there is no man she will marry but him.
Yona and co. going back to Hiryuu Castle might be the best for the country, but not for Judoh. And while he disguises it with his legitimate concerns for Suwon's safety, Keishuk saw through it, and thus, so do we.
Fin
That's it for now. I wanted to touch on Hak and Yona, but I think those pages said everything that I wanted to say. 'Til next time!

I wonder how it will end all that is happening now in the last Chapters and afterwards. Let me explain what I mean.
The dragons are in a bad state barely standing now. General of South kai, I don't see him resigning, he wants to disband kouka's army. South kai are preparing to burn hiryuu castle and hak somewhere in South kai as their soldier, threatened by a general whose said that if he doesn't fight with them, he, Sonon and ranran will be considered deserters and they will kill them. And we don't see any HakYona and happy hungry bunch reunion scene yet.
What happens next? It can get worse !? I don't know, but just thinking about it I can't imagine what will happen next.

Hii, so I know you have been in this fandom for a while, so I want to ask you if you know of something. So, a few years ago I remember reading this analysis about Kija. Iirc someone got a message asking which Akayona character they thought was the best written, and they said Kija and explained why. I remember really liking it and want to read it again. Ring any bells maybe?
Hi anon! Hmmm... Let me go have a look...
*insert gif of Terry from Soul looking through all those files*
The closest thing I can remember (and still find) to what you describe is this post by Green from 2016. Though not an ask, there's also this analysis of Kija by Cynic (with great addition here from McGrillz) from 2015, which you might like even if it's not what you were after.
Outside of these two posts, I'm afraid I can't recall much, though maybe someone else can?

I would really like to know what your thoughts on Soo Won is! Personally, I just cannot seem to hate him. I mean, something makes me want to believe that what has been shown so far is not the whole story. And with panels where Soo Won says ‘ I do not want to sit on the throne’; ‘I don’t expect to live happily and die peacefully’ to point out a few makes me feel like he’s just not evil and there’s a lot more to him than what he lets on.
Hi @purpleconscious! Thank you for your ask, I’m so sorry for the late reply, Bunny and I have been buried under work the past few days >.In regards to your analysis of Soo-Won I completely agree! He’s a wonderfully complex character with depth and layers not often seen in story antagonists.  Kusanagi-sensei has done an amazing job of fleshing out his story and motives to make him an interesting character rather than just a run-of-the-mill 2D villain.
Obligatory Disclaimer (like always): I’m a terrible mod who hasn’t really read akayona in a while so I’ve probably forgotten a lot of things like I did with my previous analyses of Kye-Sook. Like always, feel free to yell at me in the comments/send in an ask if there’s something I got wrong!
Back to the topic. To be completely honest I’m not entirely sure where I stand on the ‘How Much Do You Like Soo-Won’ scale. I’d say I’m somewhere between ‘Headpats and Hugs for Job Well Done’ and ‘Gonna Give You Obligatory B*tchslap for Yona’. Subject to change as the plot develops of course.
Half of me really admires what he’s been able to achieve in such a short period of time after ascending the throne, but the other half wonders exactly what exactly he intends to achieve with all this, especially since, like you mentioned, he doesn’t want the position of king and doesn’t expect to get a happy ending. Why then, would he put himself in that position? He could have put someone else on the throne (like Yona, once King Il stepped down) as a figurehead and manipulated things from the shadows (the whole ‘King Il doesn’t like him and wouldn’t let him marry Yona’ thing is a whole other bag of worms that I don’t have the braincells to touch on rn).
So yes, there’s definitely a lot left in his story we don’t know! I’m actually really interested in his background with his father, Yu-Hon, and what happened between them and King Il. I feel like a lot of things will fall into place once we get their history sorted out. As for his position at the end of the story… Am I the only one sensing tragedy in the future?
As for his character, I’m also not really sure where I sit. I think I answered in a previous ask that Soo-Won was the person I least wanted to meet because I was afraid he’d see into my soul or something. This has not changed. If I met Soo-Won in person I’d 100% try to escape as soon as possible out of fear he’d read me and drag me into the Plot™️.
That being said though, I find the contrast between the two personalities he seems to have fascinating. On one hand, the guy can be cheerful, kind and gentle when it comes to dealing with perceived allies, to the point where he seems kinda like an airhead (although we know that’s probably an act). But on the other, he can be cold and ruthlessly calculating, as we’ve seen multiple times. I think the contradictory nature of these two personalities is part of the reason why I see him as such an interesting character (also his hair - it’s in the dead anime mom hairstyle most of the time - is this foreshadowing??? *gets bricked*).  Honestly I don’t know if either or both of these is his ‘true’ personality or if they’re masks he wears to throw off others. As the story progresses I think it’d be interesting to see if we can catch glimpses of his true nature. Based on what we’ve seen of his past, Baby!Soo-Won seemed to be infected with Overly Cheerful Syndrome but also gave off crime boss vibes (so like a mild mix of his two current personalities). Whether or not this has changed - I guess we’ll have to see.
TL;DR: Soo-Won is like an onion - Has a lot of layers and will probably make you cry.
- Pip

ok so idk if I’m the only one weirded out by this but there’s someone directly copy-pasting a lot of the tumblr akayona posts to reddit... I had suspicions that were confirmed when one of my posts showed up, word for word, as a thread on the akayona subreddit. So um, that’s weird? I don’t know how to feel about it. Kinda makes me not want to post analysis stuff if it’s just gonna be taken and reposted elsewhere without credit. Idk.

Haku is no longer dependent on Suwon and Yona.
I don't know why his character is still perceived this way.
If he were in fact still faithful to Yona's decisions, he would not say anything about returning to the castle, he only accepted her decision as he did before, but when Yona accepted Keishuk's offer to return to the castle. It completely broke him and he said what to say. He said about his own feelings, he said aloud what he thought.
Tumblr media
He didn't hide what he had to say, he completely disagreed with her decision, you can see it hurts him.He showed his traumatized side, which he always hid and hid how strong he is.
Tumblr media
After all, he had to get over it somehow because she is not going to withdraw from it. And yet he joined the sky tribe army and didn't even pay attention to Yona, just wondered since when Suwon looked so bad.
He did a lot more than I mentioned.
It is a concern of his own free will.If he wants to help Suwon, he does so of his own free will.
After that, Haku did more to this arc than anyone else, and he decided he wanted to do. He didn't rely on Yona or Suwon
It just shows how much Haku is a wonderful, developed character with such a good heart
