The Nara Smiths of this World
I'd like to begin with saying in no way, shape, or form, will I be bashing the beautiful Black woman, wife and mother, Nara Smith. I actually aspire to be like her.

As a wife and mother,
While having the time and ease to do things that bring me peace and happiness like basking in the sun, working out, creating dinner experiences, rolling in academia - simultaneously having a career with a lower tempo, hints my transition from one career field to another (another post for another day).
I love watching her content, especially all of the dishes she makes from scratch.
But what upsets me, are the Black women that make a mockery of her lifestyle and make the excuse like "who wants to be a traditional wife" or "ain't nobody got time for all of that" and people saying that her lifestyle is unrealistic.
Lets be real.
A lot of women who bash Nara Smith are jealous.
Nara Smith is a young woman who is also a model, married, with two children and a third on the way.

My first experience in Europe was the Summer of 2017, as an intern at the University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
While interning, I also traveled to Germany and Amsterdam.
During my tenure in Europe, I walked everywhere, used public transportation (it was clean, on time and efficient if I may add), went to people's homes where they made their authentic dishes and simple ones from scratch - while simultaneously losing 15lbs, and not on purpose.
Making your desired entrees from scratch versus using products that are processed and already made with preservatives are better for your health. Not only do you taste the difference but you will feel the difference.

Back to the point of women being jealous of Nara Smith's more traditional lifestyle and leisure:
The unfortunate truth of this - speaking as a Black woman with real Black Women experiences - so many Black women are truly perturbed by Nara's choice to take the time to cater to her children, household and husband as she does.
I think most of this disturbance comes from the fact that as Black women, we're told from early youth to work so hard and earn so many accolades where we do not need a man/husband and to not submit to the idea of motherhood and marriage until you receive every possible degree, award and accomplishment - which turns into us working just as hard as men to achieve a certain status, settling down in our mid 30s, yikes!
I have recently transitioned from one career field to another due to my desire to not only become a wife, but a mother.
But not an overworked wife who does not have time to cater to herself, household and husband, but a mother who has the time to be as hands-on as possible, make dinner, be a part of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), etc.
This was my reality as a child. My parents were married; My father had a career that pulled him away sometimes but he was the providing a comfortable life for my mother, sister and I. My mother chose to have an at-home daycare so she can make my sister and I breakfast in the morning, be home to receive us after school, help us with our lessons, and put us to sleep. She was intentional with her career choice so she could cater to herself, take care of her home and her family.
And there is nothing wrong with a woman choosing to still work to have some independence, but choosing a career that is not as demanding that she sacrifices her family for it.
I brought all of this up due to conversations I had with women in my previous line of work who tried to convince me that I could "have it all" as they like to say: meaning that I could have the demanding career and title, be married, and have children.
Anyone who knows me personally, knows that I am extremely observant. During the last four years in my career field, I paid attention and listened quite carefully to the women who had children in both orthodox and unorthodox manners. The women who were married, with a child or children said all of the following:
"There was a time I spent a year away from my child, leaving them at three months of age."
"I was on my feet working just to go home and still be working."
"I got divorced because he couldn't understand that I wanted a certain level of success and being at home would not push me towards that goal."
"I don't even have time for myself."
"I have missed so many important moments."
Mind you, there's more. And I'm not saying that you cannot be married, with children and have a demanding career. I just believe it is irresponsible for older career woman to perpetuate the narrative that you can have 100% of everything all at the same time - when it's not true. Something or someone is going to be neglected.
So when I chose to transition out of my previous occupation, all of these women kept trying to persuade me to stay, but then I looked at their lives, it was not what I wanted:
Woman 1: Divorced with a boyfriend, three children (two different fathers) - spent months at a time away from her children, struggles with being feminine; Top of the food chain at work.
Woman 2: Married closer to 40, one child, lives a flight away from her husband to keep her demanding career, spends weeks away from her son.
Woman 3: Divorced, two children, sleeping around (with people we know) and the joke of our department, falls in love fast, one son has joined a gang, ex-husband is in-and-out of jail; Has worked for our organization for 15 years.
Woman 4: Left her newborn after two months to take a position in another country for a year, marriage suffered tremendously, also another "big dog" for the organization.

Now, as a woman who wants the lifestyle I already described in the paragraphs at the beginning of my piece, are these stories that I would want to emulate?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I won't go as far as saying that this is every woman's reality who has a demanding career, but even the women who stay married and have children have also told me that their marriage suffered tremendously and there is a closeness they lack with their children.
And again, that statement is not for the totality of working woman, but it's a shared experience of most.
When I told multiple women that I am ready to be a wife and a mother I was told I would regret it.
I don't and I won't.
I've had a job since I was 16; I have dated, traveled, lived in the city and suburbs on my own, and my truest desire is to live a life of leisure and peace, with my future husband and children.
So, for the girlies who are ready to settle down, leave the busy careers behind, do it!

Side bar - I just turned 26, I want to have my first child before 30 (and after I am married of course).
And do not, I repeat, DO NOT allow people's opinions, especially your Black female peers (it is what it is), to dissuade you from the lifestyle you truly desire, because they are the same women who complain about how miserable they are because of their choices, and misery loves company.
Choose your family, choose love, choose yourself.

I’m looking for a second career after working corporate. I’d like something away from a computer, workin with people, in demand, and more flexible. I do have some autistic traits though (one therapist floated it but never officially diagnosed). Do you think nursing would be a bad choice?
Here's a useless answer: it depends! I'll also give my usual caveat that nursing is a very broad field and a school nurse versus a dialysis nurse versus an ICU nurse versus a home health nurse vs a community health nurse are all going to have different experiences. You'll probably spend more time at a computer than you might like (documenting......), but if you get efficient at it, you can blast through it alright. Except when you can't.
And you will work with people! In any part of nursing, you'll be working with people, often in intimate and vulnerable ways. You meet a lot of cool people and get to be there for a lot of cool moments, cool and funny and profound moments. Working with people when they aren't at their best can be exhausting. Working with people when they aren't at their best and also you're understaffed and also someone is complaining of new onset chest pain at the same time someone else is calling to be cleaned up because they've been incontinent--it's really easy to exhaust yourself out of compassion. You have to care and actively engage with people's often tragic situations, but you also have to protect yourself from secondhand trauma. It's okay if this is not something you're comfortable or good with, but if so, you should probably think critically about whether nursing is for you.
And flexible--maybe??? Again, different jobs will have different perks. A lot of nurses work prn which means they have to pick up a certain number of shifts a month, but they aren't on the schedule normally. You just pick up as you want. Very flexible! But also a lot of these nurses are getting their healthcare elsewhere, usually a partner. Like any shift work, you can always swap shifts with a coworker if you can find one who'll do it. When I worked in home health, it was very hard to adjust my schedule because there wasn't necessarily another nurse that could fill in. And often units in the hospital will have various schedule stipulations--work every other weekend, work a certain amount of holidays, work night shift until you get the seniority to go to days or become a nocturnal little freak (me). I currently work in float pool, which makes it way easier to call out and adjust schedules because I'm not assigned anywhere specific until like ten minutes before the shift starts.
And with regards to the last bit, the autistic traits, I don't know exactly which ones you mean, but none of them are an inherent obstacle to being a nurse. We need neurodiversity in nursing. Some patients might find you cold or awkward or weird or whatever way you worry you might come across. Other patients will resonate with those exact same traits. No one's the perfect nurse for all people. Some people want to that extra care, some people want competent work and then to have space for themselves, some patients want to learn everything about their situation, some patients don't even want to know what pills they're taking. Think of yourself as a specialty nurse. An oncology nurse can take care of a variety of patients, but they're most well suited and situated to take care of cancer patients. There's a patient type that is a perfect fit for you. And the same way cardiac nurses deal with strokes, and orthopedic nurses deal with respiratory infections, you work competently outside your specialty because you have a good base for your practice, but you also know that you have specialties that you are uniquely equipped to handle. Specialties like cheerleading through physical therapy, calming down dementia patients, knowing the shit out of telemetry, making sure patients get a bed bath and clean sheets, using a machine to pump a patient's blood outside your body--whatever you most like, you're most good at, what gives you energy to work. I think mine are working well with "difficult" patients, managing pain, and stealing cranberry juice from the patient fridge. for me.
I'll say too if you're worried like a lack of empathy or easy understanding of other people will be an impediment to care--I'm not saying I'm autistic, but I don't think I'm particularly empathetic. I NEVER know what people are thinking or feeling. I struggle to tell when patients are like "talk to me more!" versus "I am being polite to you, but please leave." I have never once been comforting a crying person and thought, "I am NAILING this. I am making them feel better." But I don't think I'm a bad nurse. I reverse engineer empathy by finding a situation that I was in that's similar to the situation a patient is in, and I think about what I would have wanted and appreciated in that situation. I think about what evidence says is a good thing to do in this situation. I think about what experience tells me has worked in this situation in the pas. I also just ask patients what they're feeling and what they want and why they do what they do instead of assuming I know. (That last one is so choice, we should all do it more.)
The job puts you in a lot of Situations that are hard for anyone to manage. So you can study up for a lot of Situations. I read conflict resolution books and writing by sick people, I think about how adherent I am to my own treatment plan when I get judgy, I ask patients a lot of questions in part so I can understand them but also so I can understand the next patient like them, I practice difficult conversations I can predict before I go into rooms, and I make sure I have certain phrases and reactions in my back pocket in case I'm caught by surprise. I've figured out my safe topics of conversations that I can chat about with patients that are personable but not intimate (cats, how long you've been in the area, how hard it is to sleep in the hospital at night). I periodically try out new conversation styles and topics to see how those work. I find people I admire and I try consciously to emulate them.
I make a shitload of rules too that help me structure my behavior so I can act like a person I'm proud of. If I can't get something for a patient, I have to go back and tell them that instead of just never returning to the room. Whenever I leave a room, before I go, I make sure the call light is within reach and I ask if there's anything I can do before I go. If someone is sad, ask if they want hot chocolate, and if they say yes, ask if they want it with hot water or milk. If I have a patient that is very chatty and always on the call light, allot conversation time with them like I'm scheduling wound care in case they're lonely. Whenever I tell a patient that they can't do something, I explain the clinical reasoning for that. If the only reason I can think of to tell a patient why they can't do something except "it's against hospital rules", I reconsider the refusal. I've got so many rules and guidelines I've developed for myself so I can best act in a way that I think a good nurse should act.
(usual disclaimer that this does not mean I always accomplish this or that I always behave in a way I'm proud of. but I do think developing these rules and following them makes behaving like I want to more habitual.)
All this to say--I care tremendously about my patients when they're my patients, but I don't take most of them home with me. I feel often feel very distant from the emotions of the situation. I used to feel like I was watching the world through glass. Now I still feel like that, but not in a bad way. I don't get mad when patients yell at me. I can view their problems as quests to solve. I'm engaged but I'm not flustered by distress.
look alllllllllllllllllll that to say is have you considered making nursing a special interest? works for me. oh and YEAH. The job security is AMAZING. It's such a weight off my mind to know that if I don't like my current job, it's so easy to get another somewhere else.

I love One Step Ahead for all the obvious reasons (gay angst), but also because it is so packed with little storytelling moments. Also it just seems exhausting. So much happens in that song:
1. Motorcycle chase (with office chairs)
2. Boat chase
3. Staff fight
4. Sword fight
5. Vigorous musket loading
6. Run up the staircase
7. Hang glider chase
8. Fistfight
9. Run halfway down the stairs again
And the entire time they are doing all of this, they're belting out a vocally demanding song. I mean, no wonder Curt Mega had to take a breath during that final note. That's a feat of endurance. I simply would've passed out and died.
One Step Ahead is one of my favorite setpieces of all time. In anything. Ever. It is so impressive, and it is even more impressive when you realize this was done by a tiny little independent company with the theatre budget equivalent of $1.50. Unreal. It should not be possible.
And the thing is, One Step Ahead is the perfect narrative counterweight to A1P1 (Spies Are Forever). The amount of thought they put into this is just stunning. Because here's the thing: A1P1 is also incredibly physical. For most of the song Curt and Owen are on the move, they're going up the ladder, they're fighting goons, they're going down the staircase, they're running.
But more importantly, Curt and Owen are touching a lot in A1P1. And yeah, that's fun in a swoony curtwen vibes way, but its also incredibly important to the narrative. They are touching a lot, and when they aren't touching they are standing just a little bit too close together. Its subtle enough that you initially dismiss it as a stylistic choice, but once you have the full context it is remarkably intimate.
Those are important details- like the way Owen has his arm around Curt and is literally holding his hand when they're talking to Cynthia. Its meant to tell us that they are together. In the romantic way, yes, but also they're just aligned, working together, on the same page. They are partners here. They literally have each other's backs.

And that's down to Curt Mega and Joey Richter selling the absolute shit out of these roles, and genius choreography by Lauren Lopez, and Corey Lubowich being the director of all time.
The digital download BTS has a part with Joey and Curt rehearsing the bit where they do the hug, and right after that they're trying to figure out what cool action poses to move into and Corey says that he wants to see something with them "connected," which is just... yeah, that's the perfect word to describe what is going on in A1P1. These two are connected.
So then we get to One Step Ahead. At the very beginning, Curt does the arm clasp with Tatiana. The first time they did this, Curt had a flashback of Owen. Owen was still his partner in his heart. But this time that bond is severed. Curt thinks of Tatiana as his partner now.
We get into the action of the song, and Curt and Owen do not touch. Even when they are very physically close together, there are weapons between them. In A1P1 they had lots of moments with their backs turned to each other, trusting each other, working perfectly in sync. In One Step Ahead they are facing each other head on. They are literally and figuratively fighting. They are breaking up.
The only moment during this sequence where they are actually touching each other is when Owen slaps Curt, Curt punches Owen twice, and they do that lock up move. They're only touching to hurt each other now.

And its so subtle and well executed that you don't really think about the parallels between these two scenes the first time you watch them. But you feel it on an emotional level. They had about ten minutes to establish the relationship between these two, and they used that ten minutes so effectively that the staircase scene ends up hitting like a ton of bricks.
Just. I love this show. I love how much TCB and Curt Mega and the rest of the cast care about this show. I'm so grateful they keep coming back to it. I cannot wait to see what they do with these scenes for Spy Another Day.

Hi! I wanted to ask you something, since I really enjoy how you characterize the relationship between a grumpy, lonely, stoic, angry etc. character like Ghost (though I don’t know if I’d say he’s angry) and a love interest. What would those first few interactions be like, (would she seek him out, and would it annoy or confuse him) and what characteristics would he see early on in her to realize that he likes her. I can see someone like him avoiding her initially, until his feelings are too strong and then he’s all in. I don’t know, maybe that’s an incorrect interpretation. Also you kind of already answered this question in a previous ask, but I just love how in depth your character analysis is!! Hope your day goes really really well and thanks for giving us all some fantastic stories!!
First of all, thank you for your interest and praise! Also, this is such a lovely, cute question ️🩷✨️ I certainly don't consider myself as any kind of a Ghost expert, but I absolutely love to share my thoughts on him and love to hear other people's thoughts on this man too 💕
My thoughts on this under the cut ->

Yes, me too, definitely! Trust issues are one reason for avoidance, but I have this HC about Ghost having an ominous feeling that he's born with bad luck. He has this almost superstitious belief that shit will hit the fan whenever he turns his back. That's why he's so gloomy: quotes like "People you know can hurt you the most" and "Choices have consequences" come to mind... The latter imho is a perfect example on Ghost's instinctual belief in Murphy's law instead of being a neutral, logical take on how laws of cause and effect work.
This inner conviction that tragedy and disaster follow him wherever he goes is why he subconsciously steers clear of relationships and, in fact, any chance of happiness: because happiness is always followed by immense pain in his world of experience.
But like you said, if he gets "trapped," it's challenging for him to pull back anymore. He's curious by nature and gets a kick out of physical intimacy and extremes - and love and lust are one of the most intense experiences there is! Violence can be viewed as a profound, distorted form of intimacy (like... this guy is an expert in hugging people from behind and plunging a knife in them 🫠), so of course passionate sex is like a drug to him. Tender lovemaking or rough rutting – as long as he's present and his partner is present too.
So I'd say he's drawn in by physical attraction and sex first (not that he would be into superficial hookups, I think he'd rather deprive himself of sex altogether than have a series of shallow one-night stands), and this would eventually lead to feelings which grow in depth until he cannot keep himself away any longer.
I think people like Ghost could be compared to a wild animal or an abused dog 🥲 so it's better to let him "sniff" you first. Smothering him with attention and demands will only drive him away. But after he sees you 1. are not a threat 2. accept him as he is 3. give him the occasional treat (lol), there's a good chance he will eventually trust you and attach himself to you.
(Again, I can't believe this is my life now: talking folk psychology about a traumatized fictional man on Tumblr, but here we are, this is fine ☕️✨️)
Ghost also has to feel he's needed in the relationship, just the way he wants to feel qualified and capable in his work. If you try to force him to be something he's not, he will likely leave – simply because he doesn't want his partner to settle for anything but the best. But if he gets a feeling that he is needed and can provide and be of service to his partner, he will do anything in his power to make them feel protected, safe, and content (in that order). I also think he prefers to feel useful rather than be admired – that's why he would consider a friends with benefits setup insufficient. Also, feelings! If he senses he's just being used while slowly developing something more than just horny feels for the other person, it will only make him resentful and, again, drive him away.

It's difficult to say because I don't think Ghost has a particular "type." It's more about the chemistry and little things to him: I see him as a man of detail, so it might be something very fleeting and minimal in a person that catches his attention.
But if by characteristics you mean what kind of behavior he appreciates (not sure if I got this question right), then perhaps patience paired with acceptance and compassion. I think he wants his partner to be independent... and dependent on him. Like I said earlier, he wants to feel needed but doesn't want to be smothered. He wants to feel useful but not used. He demands unconditional loyalty but despises childlike codependency.

ive really been loving the pacing of your story and i enjoy the concept and the bits that have been released about the plot! youre doing really well, and i admire it greatly!!
ive been having trouble figuring out an overall plot in my own work, i just have character ideas and the vaguest idea for a storyline. i try to just write but then i usually end up taking a break (re: dumping it) because i don't have anymore ideas for how to complete the plot. i've laso been curious about how you go about writing for a comic (do you write then do thumbnails? do thumbnails then go back to figure out dialogue? a third thing?) so i was wondering if you had any advice or resource tips for writing? both for comics and for overarching plots, if that's okay

Oh thank you so much!! I can't say I'm a comic book artist at heart because I really don't have much experience, I was only an illustrator for a short while and never wrote anything myself, but learning from past mistakes (i.e. I don't stick to plans), I've so far done this and it seems to work:
I'm one of those that don't like to plan strict layouts for the entire thing, because chances are I will not stick to it, so what I've done for felt world is just write a sketch for the overarching plot, the b-plot and c-plot, with rough estimates in what order I want the major plot points and settings to be. My current sketch looks like this;

(which is done in Miro) and as you can see there aren't that many plot points, because I want to have the wiggle room to come up with something on the spot. And also, my comic focuses a lot on interpersonal relationships, character development, and themes rather than the plot, which means it needs to be concise or else the comic is gonna take 6 million years to finish.
And now,, I think this might just be how I work, but I think it's easier to be creative when you have strict restrictions rather than all the choices in the world.
for me, personally, I restrict an update of 10 pages tops, because instagram only allows max 10 images per post! This means I have to 1) fit all I want to say in 10 pages, 2) it has to be concise or else I infodump on readers, and 3) I have to answer some sort of question within the update, or else I said nothing and I start over.
As for scripts, I tend to write one or two sentences of what's going to happen for the update, and then I get to thumb-nailing and sketching right away! I come up with most of the dialogue on the spot too.
And also, I think what's most important, is that you take your damn time! If you aren't immersing yourself in your own world, how do you expect your readers to do the same?
I'm very much a believer that the stories you are telling are something that comes to you naturally if you just sit with it and listen rather than demand that it makes itself known to you. When I brainstorm for felt world I quite literally sit in my bed and go "omg!! And then what? :0" TO MYSELF LMAO as if I'm not making everything up myself! I think that's extremely important that your story is engaging to you first and foremost!
And as for more practical tips
carry a notebook with you or use your notes app AS SOON as you get ideas to write them down! No you will not remember, lol.
set rules of what you're not allowed to do with your story so that you don't fall into lazy trope territory! You can do that when you brain storm, but finesse the story post brainstorm to just make it.. smarter.. if that makes sens For example, don't kill your gay characters, don't make sensitive men the butt of the joke, don't make your women fight over men (unless it's the point), etc.
set physical restrictions! For example, max amount of pages per upload, max amount of pages for the whole story, max amount of characters, etc.! That literally forces you to problem solve, which by definition is creativity! Like, oh you can't do this the obvious way? Do it the creative way! That's way more fun!
I could probably go on, but this is too long already! But I hope it at least helped somewhat!

An MP has described the “terrifying” moment she believed she was going to die in childbirth as she called on the Government to do more to help women who experience traumatic births.
Conservative MP Theo Clarke (Stafford) received a rare round of applause from the public gallery in the House of Commons from mothers and campaigners as she gave what she described as “probably the most personal speech” she will make in Parliament.
Describing her own experience, she said: “After a difficult 40 hours of labour I began bleeding very heavily after delivery.
“I was separated from my baby and rushed into the emergency room for surgery.
“I remember the trolley bumping into the walls and the medical staff taking me into theatre, and being slid onto the operating table. I spent over two hours awake without a general anaesthetic, and I could hear them talking about me, and obviously it was not looking good.
“It was the most terrifying experience of my life.”
Visibly upset, the MP broke off and took an intervention, before continuing: “I genuinely thought I was going to die.”
The MP was opening what she described as the first debate on birth trauma in the history of the Commons.
She said her own experience “completely opened my eyes to challenges with post-natal care”.
At one point, while in recovery, she said she was lying next to her baby, who was screaming, and unable to pick her up she pressed a call button for help, only for the person to respond by saying “not my baby, not my problem”, before leaving.
The MP said such a moment was “unacceptable”, and said there is a need to address the “postcode lottery” of services available across England.
She described her own birth injury, a third degree tear, which she said occurs in about three in 100 women.
The consequences of an obstetric anal sphincter injury, she said, can include urinary and faecal incontinence, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction and other mental and physical effects, adding: “It is very clear, we must do more to help women.
“We need to break the taboo by talking about this,” she said.
Outlining her requests to the Government, she said: “It is so clear to me that so much more needs to be done to support women who experience traumatic births.
“Today I call for the Government to add birth trauma to the women’s health strategy, recruit more midwives, ensure perinatal mental health services are available across the UK, provide appropriate and mandatory training for midwives with a focus both on mental and physical health, ensure that the post-natal check with your GP is provided to all mothers and will include separate questions both for the mother’s physical health and mental health.”
She also called for an improvement in continuity of care and national post-birth services, for the obstetric and anal sphincter care bundle to be rolled out to all hospital trusts in England, and to provide better support for partners and better education for women on birth choices and risks.
Responding to the debate, health minister Maria Caulfield said: “By early part of next year, every integrated care system in England, and I can’t comment what’s happening in Labour-run Wales, but in England we will have a fully working maternal mental health service to support mothers experiencing moderate, severe or complex mental health difficulties.
“It is true that the number of women accessing perinatal mental health services has risen almost 50% over two years, but that’s actually good news because we want women to come forward, our challenge as a Government in England is to be able to meet that demand.”
On the women’s health strategy, she said: “We will be updating our year-two strategy fairly soon and we’ll be setting out our priorities and I can let members know about that as soon as possible.
“This is a priority for the Government and we are seeing change, but more change needs to happen.”
On Thursday, the Department of Health and Social Care also unveiled plans for how it intends to implement NHS pelvic health clinics across all areas of England – first announced in 2021 – which follows a number of pilot schemes, and which the Government said will provide better information for pregnant women, and improved aftercare.

you got me. i binged all of midst in two days and it was great, but now i dont have a lot of other podcasts to listen to. do you have other good fiction podcasts you like?
DO I. I am not the Most Podcast Person I know but I definitely follow a lot because I drive a lot and walk a lot and put them on in the background while I do chores. Also, I'm sticking to scripted/plotted fiction here and not actual play but I can provide some actual play podcast recs too, though none are terribly obscure.
Wolf 359 is a completed podcast but a great binge. It also is science fiction and deals with capitalism and corruption and complicated characters and weird space stuff; it regularly makes the "great fiction podcasts" to check out and I think is closest to Midst in that it's also a tightly plotted work that goes to a natural end point.
I frequently talk about and recommend the Silt Verses and the thematic nature is remarkably close to Midst, but the vibe is very different. It has a lot of folk and body horror elements (audio-only, but they are absolutely present). Also covers the "man what if capitalism and religion were working explicitly in tandem" element of Midst with the added dimension of "what if there were many many gods and and they all demanded literal, physical sacrifices". Sister Carpenter is cut from a similar cloth as Lark and I love her dearly. To draw other comparisons would be to spoil it. It's on season 3, which will be its last. It is extremely intense in that when I fell behind I found it tough to binge without taking breaks, but it's really fucking good. (I also recommend this to people who like Candela Obscura, though that's more for eldritch horror vibes).
The Penumbra Podcast is great because it has two separate storylines (it was originally intended to be an anthology, but people fell in love with Juno Steel specifically). I like both, but Juno Steel is the more popular one - it's set in the future, in our solar system but in space, and follows Juno Steel, a private eye. It's extremely weird neo-noir. There is a homme fatale and a fantastic cast of characters, and it's also an interesting ongoing plot. The Second Citadel is more fantasy rather than sf though it's also kind of in that general New Weird bucket and is even harder to describe but I think it's underrated. It's also on its final season but it's been going on a while so it will take a bit for you to catch up.
Within the Wires is also a podcast I've recommended in the past. It's by the people who do Welcome to Nightvale which isn't listed here both because I assume you are aware of it, and because that's an ongoing slice of life sort of thing; there are plots but there's sort of that sitcom-esque "nothing really changes the status quo" element though the earlier era had some more structured stuff. Anyway, Within the Wires is found audio, so each season is different - the first is relaxation cassette tapes, the second museum audio guides, the third voice memos, etc. There are callbacks/connections between seasons at times, and I would recommend listening to at least the first two seasons in full (which are very strong) to get a sense of the world before hopping around later. The reason I recommend it here is because the worldbuilding is spectacularly done in a way that reminds me of the elegance of the worldbuilding in Midst, and because it's found audio, while it's one narrator per season you will get those weird asides and interesting tonal choices.
Tentative rec for Camlann, a roughly modern day post-apocalyptic take on Arthurian legends and the folklore of the British Isles only because it just started and has 3 episodes. I like it, but I don't know what plot it's building to (nor how long it will be; they have funding for one season but aren't sure about future ones.)

Big sis! Noodle headcanons for a little! Wonka
✪ Willy at first wasn’t sure about Noodle taking any kind of care role to him whilst regressed at first. Mainly because he was the one who wanted to look after her, and he’s extremely protective of her. But she actually takes to the big sister role very well, especially given how she already had to take care of him multiple times from getting nearly eaten by tigers and other things.
✪ She loves teaching him most of all, with her goal to become a teacher one day. But when Willy is feeling smaller she simplifies her lessons, lots of ABCs and colors.
✪ Tries to moderate Willys chocolate intake. Knowing he can’t just survive on it alone.(as much as he’d like to) But Willy is an exceptionally picky eater, so to make it easier she often introduces him to non chocolate related foods in small doses. He’s much more receptive to trying new things when small.
✪ Noodle loves having Noodle as her big brother, but she also adores taking care of her little brother too. She gets the best of both worlds
✪ So encouraging!! Tons of praise and attention when he does well in her lessons.
✪ Brings lots of books back from her mother’s library, big colourful picture books that Willy just adores. Helping him spell out the letters by following her finger.
✪ sometimes has no choice but to force him to settle down and regress. Physically pulling him away from working when he gets extremely burnt out. She doesn’t take any nonsense and will be extremely blunt with him is he’s failing in the self care department.
✪ For a birthday gift for Willy, she spent a long time sewing a giraffe plush. A replica of Abigail specifically. When regressed Willy will carry her about constantly, and demands that everybody treats her as if she’s a person. (Sketch of her below!!)

Well, if it's no problem, can I request an application for Sasaki and Hades? (maintaining the theme of the publication with the dragon goddess of curses)
Let's say that this is already years ahead (Sasaki lives forever and no one can say no to me, sorry, I love that old man), in both cases for each man they had twins, who physically look almost like their father, but have mother's eyes.
How would Sasaki and Hades deal with the antics of their twin sons, when the mother has to leave the house to do some work?
Let's say that, being identical twins, they must wear something that differentiates them so that the servants don't confuse them and the twins decide to wear the same thing to deceive them.
Let them play pranks on family friends or their uncles and cousins.In the case of Sasaki, his children run away to look for Raiden and end up drawing on his face if they find him asleep or try to challenge Lu Bu to a fight.In the case of Hades, that they play pranks on their uncle Zeus, or that they beg Hercules to throw them into the air.
And the twins only calm down if the father mentions the mother and angers her, or puts them to sleep by telling stories of her mother's pregnancy and the weird cravings she had for her. Also if they say that if they continue to misbehave their grandfather Draco and his grandmother will be sad.
Kojiro
-After many, many years together, Kojiro and you finally had your own children, twin boys.
-You were not happy once you gave birth, seeing that they both looked like him, something you pouted over, “I carried them! I suffered morning sickness with them! I handled all of the symptoms and the hard work of giving birth and they came out looking just like you!” Kojiro’s laughter could be heard all around your family’s compound, as he wasn’t bothered by your anger.
-Your boys grew, looking just like Kojiro, which you came to adore, with the only thing they received from you was their bright gold-colored eyes and the ability to change into golden colored dragons.
-They were mischievous little boys, pulling harmless pranks like jumping out at others, hiding things, playing hide and seek with their nannies or with Kojiro and not coming out which led to the seekers searching for hours, just to find them playing in their room.
-They also loved to play pranks by wearing the same thing, to confuse others, with you being the only one who could tell them apart, so they always had to wear something that would differentiate each other, different colored hakama, matching with their father’s fashion choices.
-While they had never done anything to every anger you, your sons knew not to cross you, you were extremely powerful, and they had seen you delivering divine punishment on a lower god who thought to insult you.
-Your sons were not afraid of you, they loved you more than anything and were constantly fighting over you, which you thought was amusing, but they were afraid of your power and always behaved around you.
-You had to go to a meeting with your father and B/N, as the direct heirs of your father, Draco, leaving your boys with Kojiro, who loved their father but liked pulling pranks.
-You left your family, pecking all three of them on the cheek, before heading to your meeting, and your boys dressed in the same outfit, to mirror each other before running to meet their father, holding each other hands.
-Kojiro chuckled, seeing them run up to him before he reached down and ruffled their black hair, “You two know better, but I suppose it’s fine. What do you want to do today?”
-They shared a look before turning and sprinting off, “We’re going off on an adventure!!” leaving Kojiro to chase after them for most of the day.
-It wasn’t until hours later when Kojiro heard the laughter of Raiden and he approached before instantly paling, seeing his boys trying to chest up to Lu Bu, demanding to fight him!
-The other two human warriors found it amusing when Kojiro ran in, huffing lightly as he caught his sons, making them bow, “Sorry for these two! They ran off on me!” however Raiden and Lu Bu weren’t bothered, finding them enjoyable to be around.
-Kojiro managed to get your boys home after going the long way home, as they wanted to explore more, and Kojiro couldn’t help but chuckle when they asked him to tell them stories about their mama.
-Kojiro agreed, only after they ate and bathed and they did both quickly before meeting Kojiro in your shared bedroom, crawling onto your bed with their father.
-Kojiro told them all sorts of stories about you, the battles you fought in, when you first changed into your dragon form in front of him, and how you took his sword and attacked your ex when he tried to hurt Kojiro.
-Your sons ate up each story, but with each one, they grew drowsy until they knocked out in unison, which made him grin warmly.
-You entered about a half hour later, seeing all three of them knocked out, arms and legs spread, snoring in unison and you stifled your giggles, taking a photo before you changed and joined them in bed, pecking each of their cheeks again before falling asleep beside them.
Hades
-Nine months, twelve days, fourteen hours, and forty-two minutes, that’s how long you carried your darling twin sons, you had morning sickness from hell, your mood swings were bonkers, cravings were just as wild, swollen feet, aching back, and sore boobs, all that work, and they looked just like your husband, except they had your golden eyes.
-Hades took everything like a champ, he was there to rub your back, got you anything you wanted to eat, and was practically glued to your side for the whole of your pregnancy, as he didn’t trust anyone but himself to guard you while you were so delicate.
-He was just as protective after your sons were born, watching Zeus like a hawk when he came to see you and the babies, and Poseidon with at least a side-eye.
-Your boys grew to be mirror images of each other, to the point where they had to wear different colored clothes so others could tell them apart.
-You were the only one that was able to tell them apart, no matter what, they questioned you many times and even tried to trick you, but you always knew, just saying that ‘a mother knows her children’ but in reality you could see their magic auras around their hearts, which were different, but you kept that secret for yourself.
-Hades, having raised three brothers, was an expert in keeping his sons under control, mostly, they loved to pull pranks and Hades threatened Zeus multiple times when he learned his youngest brother taught them things they shouldn’t know.
-The day that came home to ask about a new word they heard Uncle Zeus said, you were the one to issue the beatdown, yelling at the leader of Valhalla for teaching your babies, who were only five, how to say fuck!
-That’s when your babies learned that you were scary when you were mad, when you transformed into a dragon, having Zeus on his knees begging you for forgiveness.
-Hades just watched with a grin on his lips and hearts in his eyes, adoring you putting his brother in his place.
-While they weren’t afraid of you, as they didn’t want you to be angry at them, they were very respectful of your power, and always listened to you, which did annoy your husband at times.
-You had to return to your father’s home for a meeting with the heads of other constellation deities, just for the day, leaving your three boys at home.
-You pecked your twins on their cheeks and Hades on his lips before you headed off.
-Hades watched you leave before he turned with a smile, “So what do you want to learn today boy?.....boys?” receiving no response, his eyes instantly widened, seeing they were gone.
-He let out a deep sigh before heading off to find his children, before they got into too much trouble, again, as they were trouble magnets.
-When Cerberus alerted him by barking, Hades ran for the entrance of his domain, seeing the gates open and he sighed, rushing into Valhalla.
-Hades breathed a sigh of relief about an hour later, when he heard the laughter of his children and entered Zeus’s garden, finding Hercules tossing his much younger and smaller cousins into the air, playing with them, while Zeus was scowling nearby.
-Hades chuckled, glaring lightly at his twins who instantly froze, turning to see their papa and gave him identical big grins, which made him ruffle their hair.
-Zeus pouted lightly, “They’re trying to get me into trouble with Y/N again, they showed up demanding that I teach them more naughty words.”
-Hades’ eyes were sharp when he turned on his sons, who quickly flinched, but apologized, before Hades apologized to Zeus and thanked Hercules for keeping them occupied.
-On their way back home, each holding one of their father’s hands, they passed by a pregnant lady and the twins had sparkles in their eyes, speaking in unison, “‘Papa! That lady has a baby in her belly!’”
-Hades looked over and he nodded, agreeing with them, “That’s what your mother looked like when she was pregnant with the two of you. She looked so beautiful.”
-Hades spent most of the rest of the day telling them about your pregnancy with them, as they wanted to know more.
-Hades took pictures between bouts of laughter when he told them of your pregnancy cravings, watermelon with mayo and pepper was the one they gagged at the most.
-Hades froze however when they made the decision, after learning more about babies, “‘We want a baby!’” his eyes glanced to the side, wondering how he was going to bring that up with you, but he wasn’t opposed to having another baby.
-Your voice then interrupted them, “You’ll have to wait about another eight months my loves.”
-They turned and Hades froze, looking at you before you smiled, putting you hand on your belly, announcing that you were pregnant and your twins quickly threw their arms up in cheers while Hades was stunned stiff, just like the first time you told him you were pregnant.
-You were able to get a picture of his stunned face while your twins were smiling brightly at the camera, which made you giggle softly.

It has been demanded of me to drop everything I had made for an unshared BMC x TGS AU I thought up back in March :3 I honestly don't remember much of it, but I apparently wrote a shit ton, so here's that straight from my drafts and writing app--
First! The original Tumblr draft!:
Guys guys, hear me out, TGS "Be More Chill" AU thingy.
Hyde is Jekylls SQUIP, and boy is he defective. Self loathing is of course still in order, but also he's constantly telling Jekyll to do really impulsive things. Oh, this guys being an asshole? PUNCH HIS ASS JEKYLL! holy shit, hot theatre boy Lanyon? Kiss him kiss him ASK HIM OUT YOU WUSS-
Hyde SQUIP doesn't want complete world control via SQUIPs tho bc all the other ones are too "boring", he just kinda wants to do whatever and "fix" this really nerdy Scottish boy.
And then, what I had in my writing app (which was a lot jfc):
TGS au that is vaguely inspired by BMC >:3
Henry and Robert share a dorm room at this university (Henry is big gay for Lanyon ofc). At this University, Jekyll has created this science club, Students for Arcane Science (of course there's also all sorts of mythical curiosities in this world, so it's still got all the ghosts and creatures and werewolves) with the help of Dr Maijabi (who's a teacher in this mayhaps, otherwise itd be Mrs Frankenstein). This club is just to bring people who are very passionate about their scientific fields together to talk and share experiments and things, and to perhaps do experiments together. One day, someone in passing (perhaps Pennebrygg) mentions this odd new Japanese technology to Jekyll, since he's so enraptured by chemistry and matters of the mind and soul, and Jekylls nerd ass immediately wants to know more about it. So, being the science-driven guy he is, he immediately sets out to get his hands on one to try, because hey, maybe this cool little pill will give him the confidence to actually ask out Lanyon and to make other people like him more. Too bad he gets a defective one. He doesn't know that though! So, of course his first course of action is to absolutely grill this SQUIP thing-- who so quickly insisted that he was to be called Hyde (what an odd name for this oddly dressed lad)-- on how he worked (I like to think Jekylls Scottish accent slips out more when he gets enthusiastic or when he's rushing, Lanyon has to remind him a lot to "speak English"). Hyde doesn't really care to answer most of these questions, but he relents on one condition, that Jekyll shuts the fuck up long enough for him to make it home so he's not caught talking to himself like a maniac in public. So, cue a montage of Jekyll barely containing his wonder and excitement as this brash little creature walking beside him (Hyde doesn't like being locked away in the mind, so hes persistent about keeping a physical manifestation of himself if able) explains how he was created (well, to the extent hes allowed to). Eventually though, he gets kinda bored and just begins poking fun at Jekyll and the people they come across, running around doing silly things that he knows only Jekyll can see, and Jekyll kinda gets a kick out of it. Eventually they make it back to Jekylls dorm, where Lanyons just lazing around. (Im unsure if Jekyll  should reveal that he got the SQUIP to Lanyon or if it should be kept a secret from him, since he wants to use it to get with him and all). Hyde probably makes some quip about Jekyll having good taste or something, studying Lanyon super closely. Jekyll gets super flustered and kinda runs off to somewhere where he can talk to Hyde one on one. When talking, Jekyll reveals what he wants help with: 1. Getting with Lanyon, and 2. Just being able to fit in more and get people to actually like him. Hyde agrees (of course, he doesn't have much else of a choice considering he's bound to this nerd now) and starts coming up with increasingly wild and morally questionable plans.
Hyde's whole thing is that he's defective- not in a "I wanna take over this place/the world", but in more of a way where he wants to live vicariously through Henry. He can't live his own life because of what he is, and for some reason, despite how he was supposed to be created, he's less "calm, calculated computer" and more "impulsive spit fire". He feels things that he's probably not supposed to, but hey, that's not for him to dwell on. (It'd be really cool if at some point Henry tried giving Hyde his own body, mayhaps either with Mr Tanis, Pennebrygg, or Frankensteins help) so, Hyde let's this impulsivity guide him through "helping" Henry, which makes Henry's control and ability to ignore the increasingly wild things Hyde tells him to say or do (for example, telling him to punch a fellow student for looking at him snide, or to tell Lanyon that his smile is beautiful)

Yeah, clearly more inspired by BMC than like, a straight kinda insert AU, but idk thinking on it now it could definitely be changed a decent bit to fit BMC more. But!!! There's that, to the people that were curious lmao

corey commentary: the official making of h40 🎃🔪
honestly i feel like this book really helped me refocus my thoughts on corey and brought me back to basics for the first time in a while.
i've split this post into a few specific topics based on my own thoughts and the book details that i found most interesting. a lot of this i've talked about before but i'm bringing it back with evidence babyyy.
WARNING for suicide and suicidal ideation, murder, manipulation, mental health issues and crises, and passing mentions of child abuse.
costume
corey's costume was developed in reverse (pg. 176), starting with his final look, the leather jacketed bad boy, and working backwards to the opening scene look, the good boy on his way to the sock hop.
i love that this was the process, i think that's so interesting from both a design and character perspective. taking him from what he became to what he was? it feels sort of like they were centring nostalgia in a way, starting with who corey became and then looking back to who he was (and who he will never be again). it kind of makes his downfall even more heart-breaking to me.
rohan mention's wearing coreys clothes in his real life and how no one even looked at him (pg. 184). in the commentary he also mentioned wearing corey's glasses a lot to get into the character mindset.
very interesting that we have tried and tested proof that corey can literally fade into the background and go unnoticed. it must be a combination of trying to be visually more plain but also a very quiet demeanour. but then you have the angle of corey being forced to reduce himself to as small and quiet and invisible impossible. i like the way corey both wants to be invisible (to avoid confrontation) but also desperately wants to be seen and heard and believed and understood by someone.
frame of mind/suicidal ideation
rohan mentions that there's an element of corey having not been able to kill himself before, because it was too hard to do, but looking into michael's eyes he realises he can just "call it quits" and let michael do it. then, after he is spared by michael, it gives him "permission" (pg. 198)
i think it makes a lot of sense though that michael letting him go is what tips corey over the edge, maybe reinforcing his own buried guilt (if michael let him go, he must be evil, right?) and making it feel a lot easier to make horrific choices (murder) while also making his emergency exit plan (suicide) feel easier too, if he wanted to.
corey being "tainted" by the shape because he's so close to being that anyway (pg. 172).
i don't personally believe in evil as an actual supernatural force in these movies, but corey is definitlel portrayed as more susceptible to michael's influence, even if michael does actuall demand anything of him.
i think @/slutforstabbings was the one who mentioned this to me. but when corey meets michael he is mentally and physically more susceptible to reacting irrationally in a very real-world sense. he has a history of abuse, experienced a major trauma (the accident), been under intense stress (the party), and had a recent head injury (the fall from the bridge and smacking his head in the sewer). these factors all contribute to a mental health crisis and drastic change in personality.
i feel like this confirms that corey was likely headed for (possibly another) breakdown in the future, but the events of the party/meeting michael just triggers it sooner.
emotional control
rohan mentions corey purposely doesn't feel anything since the accident (pg. 188).
this might have been my favourite detail that gets mentioned. i've always thought that corey's way of surviving post-accident was to just shutdown completely and switch off all his emotions. it's interesting to know that rohan was playing him that way.
and also a lot of the time when corey does feel strong emotions, they are turned in on himself to try and keep them private, like his anger at terry results in him hurting himself (accidently) with the milk bottle, or him regularly climbing over the bannister at the allen house but not being able to let go while during the day he thinks about some outward expression of rage through the blowtorch at the garage.
the mirror scene symbolises the first time corey feels in control (pg. 198).
i've written about this a lot before, but i very much agree that the mirror scene is a moment of processing both "what the fuck just happened?" but also "this is what control feels like". corey's whole breakdown, starting from killing nelson, is about regaining control over his own life, even if it means un-restraining himself and doing horrific things.
killings
ryan turek (exec.) and paul logan (writer) specifically state how ends is essentially a revenge movie, with corey's kills start as revenge killings, but if he survived the kills would get more random (pg. 167).
i feel like this highlights the way that corey's connection with the shape is cut short, unlike michael who had it for decades. the shape (or the idea of it) lets corey get his revenge, but after that he could keep going, he'd pick up momentum and he wouldn't be slowing down.
this seems like this is pointing towards killing being corey's method of control rather than some more direct desire to kill.
he becomes "addicted" to violence and he knows it (pg. 191).
"addicted" is a super interesting word choice and i feel like it fits perfectly. corey starts with revenge, he has his reasons, but as time goes on he could find a reason for anyone if he wanted to.
if corey survived ends and got away, he'd be living his own life for the first time ever. i think there are a lot of things he'd over indulge in, and killing being an addiction plays heavily into that -- there would be nothing to tell him to stop.
high priest!corey
rohan specifically describes corey leading doug to the sewer as him bring michael a "sacrifice" (pg. 206).
vindication !! @/slutforstabbings once said to me, while we were talking about the ritualistic nature of corey and michael's relationship and killings, that corey replaces nelson as michael's high priest, as the person who brings the sacrifices and channels michael to the outside world.
manipulation
rohan says that corey "plays" at being the shaking little boy again when he jump scares laurie while waiting outside for allyson (pg. 204).
i love this, because i fully believe corey thrives on manipulation. i think corey is fundamentally a good person anyway, but in dealing with joan he knows how to make himself inoffensive and agreeable, and i think he knows that that "character" is a safe bet to keep people happy.
and the novelisation confirms that this almost works !! laurie thinks he's just awkward and still upset from the night before. the thing that makes laurie doubt how genuine he is, is that she can see how he changes -- she can see the way he switches from one demeanour to another. proof right that he can play at being who he needs to be in the moment.
but then, by the time laurie shoots him, corey really is just a scared little boy who is in way over his head and unequipped for the situation he finds himself in (pg. 226).
corey is unprepared and unpractised -- he doesn't have the experience that michael has in bouncing back. he isn't michael. he's fucked up big time, his plan has fallen through, and he's backed himself into a corner. all the terrible things he's done, everything he's been through, the taste of control -- it's all for nothing is laurie can get the upper hand on him like this.
he's scared and out of his depth but he's dangerous, but corey ends the film the same way he starts it, in a situation he has no control over and with only himself to blame. only this time he's having the last word, he's going to do what he could before and he's going to take laurie down with him.
relationships
rohan said ronald is "the loveliest thing" in corey's life, and that the gesture of giving the motorbike is "beautiful [but] manly and detached" (pg. 182), which is a way more sympathetic view than i have.
this is a wayyy more sympathetic view of their relationship than i have. i do like this angle though, the idea that corey and ronald did have some sort of relationship but that neither of them can express it very well, that they're taking the stereotypically masculine route of small gestures and not a lot of words. which seems at odds with what corey really needed from the only male role model in his life, but it's kinda sweet that corey must like ronald enough for him to be a good part of his life, rather than just neutral.
maybe the takes about ronald being a good stepdad aren't wrong 👀
corey falls for allyson most deeply when he sees how she is on the edge just as much as he is (pg. 215).
this made me wonder if allyson and corey could have ever been together without the events of the movies? if they still met by chance, would they get along? would the attraction still be there?
their relationship is based on parasocial affection and shared similar traumas, there's a certain emotional intensity there that translates to them making rash decisions and commitments that i don't think they would otherwise.
joan's last words (in an even more extended death scene) are begging "michael" not to hurt corey (pg. 222).
joanne baron has talked about joan's motivations and perspective in some interviews, so this scenes lines up very well with what she's said previously. joan has never treated corey like a person, he's an object for her to control, but her two moments of concern for him (when he comes home the morning after the party and her death scene) come from a seemingly natural and genuine place.
also, the biggest factor that made me loose my mind over this: she doesn't know it's corey killing her. she begs this masked murderer not to kill her son, not know that it is her son beneath the mask 💀
she's begging someone not to hurt corey after years of being the one who has hurt corey. it's too late to turn back, it was always going to end like this, but can you imagine what went through corey's mind in that moment? that his momma wanted him to be safe but never made him feel safe when she had the chance.

Kaidou manga panels I SIKE!!
I don't really like this one. In fact I'm gonna go on a rant about it!: feat. Aiura, Kuboyasu, and Saiki

I also refuse to believe her, Kaidou. In fact, I would even go so far as to say she's wrong, or rather the narrative is wrong in making Kaidou's aura "chipmunk esque".
First off, let me just say that I love the running gag of a character being introduced that can see the guardian spirits/auras of characters, them getting Kaidou excited by telling him his is unusual, only to disappoint him by revealing that said spirit/aura is just lamer and weaker than normal. It's a perfect gag for his character and I love whenever it happens (read: it happens twice :/ ).
When Toritsuka was introduced, and subsequently revealed to Kaidou that his guardian spirit was not some cool formidable demon from the underworld, but instead a teeny little chihuahua, nothing I had ever seen in my entire life felt more right. Chihuahuas are small, unintimidating dogs that don't pose any sort of real threat... but boy do they sure act like it.
No reasonable human would be scared of a chihuahua being on their tail (pun intended). If a chihuahua was attacking you all you would have to do is pick it up or kick it away from you, which you shouldn't do because chihuahuas are ADORABLE and kicking dogs is a cardinal sin and you're a horrible person if you do it.
If I haven't said it already, chihuahuas are small and their diminutive size significantly hinders them from being strong opponents. But by god are they aggressive.
No matter how much bigger you are than a chihuahua, it will yip and growl at you. A chihuahua will go up to a dog 10x its size and demand to throw down without an ounce of hesitation. A chihuahua would bark at the sun, and would not stop barking until the sun submitted, or the chihuahua peed itself. Actually scratch that, a chihuahua would STILL continue to bark even louder if either of those things happened!
A chihuahua is an extremely fitting representation of Kaidou. Kaidou is short and weak, and probably doesn't stand a chance in fighting against most of the people he would encounter. But what he lacks in strength he more than makes up for in personality. Kaidou's personality is LOUD. He's one of those characters whose bark is far bigger than his bite (mostly because the bite is pretty much non existent but I digress).
Kaidou is aggressive in everything he does. Whenever he goes on one of his many many monologues, you can tell that he is putting in way more energy he should. Kaidou acts like he's hot shit, and even when it's proven time and time again that he isn't, he continues to persist in trying and failing to prove everyone who thinks differently wrong.
A small creature that makes up for its size and lack of physical ability with its large attitude and nonstop aggression. An absolute refusal to acknowledge its weakness and an unending desire to challenge the mountains that tower above them. A Chihuahua and Kaidou are one in the same.
They are perfect representations of each other. The choice to make Kaidou's guardian spirit a chihuahua was nothing short of a brilliant stroke of genius, hand delivered by god himself. Asou did a great job of keeping with the comedy of Kaidou getting only lame abilities, while also crafting the perfect embodiment of his character.
Now unfortunately, I simply cannot say the same about the disappointment that is "chipmunk aura". True, these panels continued the gag of Kaidou only getting small, cute animals specifically to piss him off, but it just doesn't do his character justice, far from it.
Chipmunks do have the teeny size that is commonly associated with Kaidou, but they lack the absolute domineering and erratic disposition that chihuahuas and Kaidou display every waking hour of their lives. Comparing Kaidou to a chipmunk works when considering only his appearance and relative strength but fails to acknowledge the absolute powerhouse that is his overbearing personality. My man is extra and over dramatic and a chipmunk doesn't convey that part of him effectively dammit!
Now the manga clarifies that Kaidou's aura is chipmunk like mostly in regards to its size. But even then I'm still not buying it. If we only look at Aiura's comment about auras being controlled by your strength then I could believe it being the size of a chipmunk. But she also says that they can be influenced by your emotions or personality, in which case the aura barely coming off his skin makes absolutely no sense.
But honestly, I'm not especially bothered by Kaidou's aura being small. I'm willing to say it; size doesn't matter. My main gripe is with his aura not portraying his character accurately. Aiura says that an aura's appearance is controlled by size, shape, and color, but based on the auras of other characters it's obviously more than just those factors.
Sure Kuboyasu's aura is large, shaped like spikes, and the color purple--fitting the size, shape, and color narrative--but Hairo's is literal fire and Saiko's is sparkling light similar to his father's appearance when wearing all his jewelry. Teruhashi gets angel wings with a few black feathers to showcase her perfection on the outside but hidden personality on the inside. Even Takahashi gets a green sludge aura, pretty off putting in appearance but generally unnoteworthy, just like Takahashi. Nendou even gets a large bright aura to show off his good natured attitude despite most of his peers thinking otherwise.
These characters all get very detailed auras that suit their personalities and roles in the narrative, but Kaidou doesn't get the same treatment. He gets stuck with the ill fitting chipmunk only for the sake of continuing a running gag.
If we take Kaidou's personality before the events of the manga, then a chipmunk aura would actually make sense. Before he adopted his Chuunibyou persona, he was definitely more shy and timid, a personality befitting of a chipmunk rather than a chihuahua. However his personality changed as time progressed, and it's been established that your aura changes alongside you, based on Aiura's comment about her mom.
We can even see this in action with someone changing their aura in canon. Suzumiya at first has a deadly and foreboding aura, but after her guardian spirit cleans up his act, it's a positive and bright green. Keep in mind that while her aura changes, her guardian spirit actually doesn't during this transformation. Suzumiya's guardian spirit shifts only slightly in appearance, but it's still the same person, while her aura does a complete 180.
Your aura changes with your personality, however your guardian spirit does not. If anything it would make more sense for Kaidou's aura to be more befitting for his personality than his guardian spirit. This is not the case however (but don't change his chihuahua spirit because it's perfect and I would die for it). A chihuahua fully encapsulates Kaidou's character while a chipmunk completely misses a key part of him.
You're probably wondering now; Well if a chipmunk doesn't fit Kaidou's aura, then what does? And if so, you had the exact same thought process as me. I'm glad that we're on the same page. We need to figure out what would be a more fitting aura for him.

...And I've got nothing. Yeah I don't know. I started thinking about a better aura for Kaidou all the way back when I posted Toritsuka's introduction chapter (which I might add was a month and 9 days ago so I've had a lot of time) and I couldn't come up with anything. I have absolutely nothing to show for a potential aura for Kaidou that not only captures his personality while also continuing the gag of his guardian spirit/aura being lame and disappointing, but isn't just another chihuahua.
I'm disappointed that completely racking my brain led to no good ideas, but I will continue thinking on it and come back to this post if I think up something that works. In the meantime I'll continue my Kaidou posting and hopefully be able to eventually return with Kaidou's perfect aura.

I've been dating my current girlfriend for 5 years. She is an angel, everything a man could possibly want in his wildest dreams- she is beautiful inside out, funny, cute, hardworking, supportive, always knows what to say, can understand exactly how I'm feeling without me even needing ot say anything, thoughtful, considerate- you get the picture. I am planning to propose soon, I know I want to spend the rest of my life with her.
Not only that but we have similar political views, get along fairly well with each other's families, similar sense of humor, sexually and emotionally compatible, I never have to worry about anything I say around her, things never get boring even though we live together and are together almost 24/7, 5 years in it still feels like a honeymoon phase.
But she now has decided to reveal she doesn't want kids. This is not the most gigantic surprise because earlier on when we discussed this, I told her I absolutely 100% wanted kids, she told me that she could go either way, she didn't need kids to make her happy and could go without them but if her spouse wants them she'll have it. She never said she was fully against it, until she changed her mind now, a few days ago we were having a discussion about the 2024 election, the screwed up state of the world n all, and she hesitantly admitted that lately she's been more and more certain that she doesn't want kids.
I was absolutely shattered. She told me she loves me but she doesn't think the world is a good enough place. I must admit I myself feel kind of offended hearing that- we have found a love as amazing and special as the one we have and she still doesn't feel like there's enough good in the world to bring life into it? Crime, selfishness, politics, war, mental issues, greedy men at the top are definitely legitimate problems but the same can be said about literally every other point in human history? I feel like her view that the world is coming to an end it's worse now than it ever was, the next generation is doomed is rather dystopian? The world is no paradise but my girlfriend and I are lucky enough to live in a first world country, to have rather stable jobs, our kids will have long parents, I will work my ass off and go to the ends of the Earth to make sure my children are happy and safe if I have them, make sure my wife doesn't need to even work while she's pregnant and can rest, I will make sure I am financially secure, they have enough to inherit in their adulthood, they have everything they need and feel safe and loved at all times regardless of their mood swings or sexuality or career path or anything.
I had a physically abusive father, I know how dark and scary life can be but it is also beautiful and touching. At least this is how I view life since I met my girlfriend. This is the only thing my girlfriend and I have ever disagreed on- being alive is a miraculous thing sharing so much love with someone that you want to create and raise a human together and do everything you can for it is one of the most special things but she's more concerned about like... Putin?
Having kids is a personal choice, I absolutely respect people who don't want it because it is very demanding, especially physically demanding on women (I took a lot of care of my sister when she was pregnant and helped her out w the newborn). But I know I want kids, I'll do anything to guarantee their happiness. But my girlfriend is irreplaceable. I cannot picture my life without her. She is absolutely perfect for me, and I would do anything for her. I'm trying to get myself to adjust to the idea of not having kids but it's hard. My whole life I just pictured myself having them, I pictured the white picket fence with two kids running around in the sprinklers during summer and tucking them in every night and helping them through their first love first heartbreak finding a job, everything. After a really screwed up childhood it's been one of my biggest dreams to have a happy loving family of my own and work towards a purpose greater than myself, with the woman I love the most.
I tried to talk to my mother and my sister (who has kids) about this. They both said that having kids is the most taxing draining but most rewarding breathtaking experience a human being could have, they couldn't imagine life without their kids. And that if I want them, I should seriously consider finding someone else because I'll regret suppressing my desire to be a father. Then again, they've never been in this position where they had to choose between the love of their life or the desire to start a family.
I can't be without my girlfriend. But I'm scared of one day regretting never having kids, right now I feel like I can handle it but what if 10 years from now I wake up feeling empty and regretful? I'm so confused. I've always loved being around kids, my nephews and nieces and even my girlfriend loves when my sister drops them off at our house. Should I adapt to the idea of not having kids for the sake of the love of my life? Or is that a mistake?
Has anyone been in a similar position?

Just as moids think of you as a sex dispenser, they also view themselves as entitled to your reproductive labor. men could abhor women, know that on some level, and still think that they're righteous and that their entitlement is valid because bio spawn are a man's right, an affirmation of his 'value'.
I see so many scummy moids who bristle at the idea that they're not owed shit from women b/c they most definitely see women as a resource (or as gatekeepers of fAtHErHoOD) and as you denying them that resource as a grave injustice. Toxic male Owen Jones spent DAYS in a huff on socmedia telling ppl that YES, he is entitled to bio spawn and that you're all wrong/fobez for feeling put off by his attitude!
This guy thinks that being in a relationship with a woman means that the woman must defer to him for him to be happy. His desire for bio spawn is his priority, therefore he feels like he's owed it. These ~life is wonderful and blahblahblah~ types of moids are often narcissists who use that to guilt people for having their own thoughts, and Jones sounds like this, too.
