Life was hard. Life's hard for everyone, and that's just a fact. But now, it was an unbearable level of hard. You were struggling just to wake up on some days, let alone get out of bed and go to work. Your energy levels depleted, and you could barely make it through the day. The fact you didn't speak to anyone was unusual for you, your coworkers catching onto it. They all noticed how you were much quieter but didn't really read into it. Well, other than Amy. Amy was your best friend, and she had begun to get worried. She quickly took note of your strange behaviour and was greatly concerned. If she tried to confide in Dina about her worries, Dina would just brush it off. Amy began thinking she was just being paranoid, so didn't try to talk to you about it.
About another week had passed, and you hadn't gotten any better. If anything, you'd gotten even worse. You didn't speak to anyone and were regularly coming in late or disappearing. Amy was beginning to get seriously concerned. Dina tried to persuade Amy to write you up or even fire you for not attending work, but Amy refused. On a day that you were at work, Amy called you into her office. You sat down silently in the chair, staring at the ground blankly. Amy shut the door and locked it. She sat down opposite you and held your hands.
"Listen, (Y/N), I'm getting worried about you. You're being so quiet and missing work. You're not being yourself, and I miss it. What's going on?" Her words were soft, gentle, and reassuring. Tears brimmed in your eyes, thoughts racing. All that came out was a small whimper before sobs began to fall from your mouth. She pulled you into a hug, allowing you to cry on her shoulder. She gently hushed you and rubbed your back, attempting to comfort you. She was your best friend, so her attempts at comforting you worked greatly. She softly asked if you were ready to tell her anything you needed to, and you sighed.
As she was your best friend, you decided it was safe to confide in her about your worries and troubles. She listened intently, nodding along every so often. When you finished your rant, she pulled you into another soft hug. She whispered small reassurances that it was gonna be okay in your ear and rubbed your back. She explained her plan for you and made sure you were okay with it. She decided she'd schedule some work-issued counselling for you, meaning you wouldn't have to pay for it. Along with that, she offered to go with you or drive you if you needed it. You nodded gently at her proposal and smiled.
She always knew how to help out.

An Examination Of Amy's Thoughts On Marriage
Jonah's eyes light up at the though of marriage. Just the word seems to put a spark in his eyes, a spring in his step.
But the word summons dread for Amy.
"Marriage"
A legal document joining two people together. Sharing finances, a mortgage, a life...
For Amy, marriage is Struggle. Marriage is Regret. Marriage is a trap, something that forces people together and steals away the joy, the hope, the love.
It's long hours at work and long hours cooking.
It's coming home to some new half-baked idea that cost thousands to chase after, and worrying about if bills can be paid now.
It's petty arguments over small things that actually mean the world.
It's talking, talking, talking, but nothing being said that needs to be said.
It's insisting everything is fine when every day starts with an empty feeling and a tight panic of what new fight will erupt over breakfast.
It's ruined pans and not daring to hope for better and broken promises and crying in the bathroom and-
It's torture.
It's a relationship's death, pulled up on strings and puppeted about the world. It's lying and faking and pretending everything is still fine.
It's pretending to love someone who only conjures feelings of resent and regret and emptyness.
And the thought of that happening to her and Jonah...
The thought of losing love for him, of him losing love for her, the thought of everything they have withering and dying, the thought of losing it all forever and of having him look at her the same way Adam used to, of her feeling the same way about Jonah that she did about Adam...
She can't do it.
She can't marry him, because it would end them.
But when she tries to figure out how to say it...
She can't.
Jonah looks at her, and she wishes so desperately for him to understand, but he doesn't. He can't.
And he walks away.
It ends.
And Amy feels the emptiness she tried so hard to avoid.

Like a storm in the desert
Tumblr media
“I want Dada,” Parker said, rubbing his eyes and then rubbing his wet face on the shoulder of the dry-clean only blouse that she’d known was a mistake as soon as she cut off the tags. He was a little hoarse, pony Jonah would have called it, giving her that crooked smile that meant he was amused and wanted her to be, that he was prepared to stay up with Parker if she crashed out or Emma had a sudden, mall-related emergency. He would have looked equally comfortable pacing up and down the hallway as in the second-hand glider that squeaked if you didn’t balance just right. He would have stocked the medicine cabinet with something besides generic ibuprofen tablets and the tub of Vicks and he most definitely wouldn’t have made a fuss about getting someone to cover his shift because there was no way Parker could go to daycare in the morning and Amy had that meeting with the Pacific Northwest guys and was going to have to brace herself for the onslaught of comments about how sunny it was and how shitty the coffee was outside of Seattle.
“Mami, want Dada,” Parker repeated and Amy knew he didn’t mean Adam. When she was in St. Louis, Adam had taken the kids on weekends and picked up Parker on most, but not all, Tuesdays. Whatever claim he’d had to hands-on parenting with Emma was not one he, or anyone else, could possibly make for his relationship with Parker, whom he had tried, unsuccessfully, to call him Big Papi (the rag on Jonah’s height hadn’t been lost on Amy but Jonah had just waved it away.) Now that they were in California, Adam was a face on a Zoom meeting, a destination for some indeterminate time when vacations and school breaks were occupied by plane flights without pre-quarantines. He sent Parker clothes that were too small or oddly big and toys he wasn’t interested in; Emma got gift cards because Adam recognized he had no idea what a sixteen year old girl wanted.
“Mami’s here,” Amy said, patting Parker’s back. She was hoping to forestall a full-on meltdown, the kind that had made the first week in California worth blocking out of her memory if that had been humanly possible. The sound of his shrieks had etched themselves into her brain as if he’d used sulfuric acid. “It’s okay, baby, Mami’s here, I got you.”
“Dada?” Parker said and this time, she could hear how it had become a question. How she wasn’t enough, not when Parker had yet another ear infection or when he woke up with a nightmare or came into her bed far too early wanting banana pancakes and a sip of Dada’s magic green drink, which was usually far more leafy green vegetable than Amy was able to coax him to eat. I guess you’ll know where to find me, Jonah had said in the moment after she had broken his heart. But she couldn’t bring herself to believe he could have ever meant for her to call him now and tell him she didn’t know what to do to get Parker to settle down after the shower hadn’t worked or the extra episode of Peppa Pig. To ask him if it was okay to put him on speaker and would he sing that song, the one Parker called night inna forest, to hear the pause before he agreed and then his baritone, surprisingly untroubled, unaffected by the phone, the distance she’d put between them.
“You fill up my senses/ Like a night in a forest/ Like the mountains in springtime/ Like a walk in the rain…”
She tried humming it for Parker but he gave her the kind of dark, withering look she wouldn’t have expected until he was fourteen, so she gave up and stumbled through “Remember Me” from Coco. It was only going to buy her a few hours, ones she hoped she could sleep through without a dream of Jonah walking towards her in the warehouse. A dream where she’d said yes and learned, before it was too late, that she’d meant it.

I’m late but finally watched superstore finale and had to go back through all your amy and Jonah tags because ENDGAME!!! tears!!! Them going back to the moment of beauty/stars on the ceiling just wrecked me!!! Like the entire show was a beautiful homage of their love story (which is funny trivia btw that the show was supposed to be called ‘the greatest love story ever told’!!!) can’t get over how Jonah stuck around all those years for AMY. Sob! one of my favorite fictional men!! Gonna miss Ben!
AHHHHH!! WASN'T IT AMAZING???????? Superstore is literally about Amy and Jonah's love story those two are going to go down in history. They're the best written sitcom couple I've ever seen and I feel like I can't even appreciate other sitcom couples anymore they're just so dull in comparison 😭 The finale was so beautiful!!! I love that they broke them up for those 10 episodes because I think it made the ending even more satisfying. The angst was top tier!! AND YESSS Amy Sosa I will miss you so much 🥺 And Jonah Simms one of the best male characters ever created!!
