Sharing my thoughts for Bridgerton season 3 cause I’m a hater

spoilers obviously i guess?

Disclaimer: i have not read the books but I have enjoyed both previous seasons more

Things I didn’t like (there’ll be things I liked too we just need to get this out of the way):

They tried to swamp in SO MANY side plots that I kinda lost the fact that this was Penelope and Colin’s love story?

Benedict and that random woman? I mean okay she’s cool but I guess it was unnecessary. Like it didn’t add anything to the plot, it would’ve been more interesting to see more about his artistic career but no, we have to see that he’s a rake (like every single Bridgerton man lol)

Colin’s Littlefinger moment? (You know what I’m talking about corporate can’t find the difference between them, they’re the same picture) wtf

WAY too few moments with my baddies Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte

I just didn’t feel the chemistry between Pen and Colin, sue me.

Also Colin’s personality is… nonexistent? Like yeah did he get hotter? But did he have any distinguishable traits that weren’t “i have studied abroad and now I think I’m cooler than everyone”, “i’m such a rake lol” or “wow was Pen always this pretty?”

I didn’t feel the VIBES with them I’m sorry Colin could’ve done better😭

The balloon scene was goofy AF. My girl had 5-8 business days to run away but she just stood there like 👁️👄👁️

Lord Debling nature guy just slipping down to her and spooning her like what’s that gonna do? Bro had 1 braincell and it was focused on those endangered birds

Cressida and Eloise!! Most likely nothing will happen but I am here for the barest hint of sapphics

I also like Cressida’s redemption arc. She was an awful person but everyone deserves second chances and I think her friendship with Eloise is truly helping her become a better person. It was nice to see her side too, her conflicts about life as a woman and her issues with her parents. She’s still not an overly “positive” or “supporting” character, but I believe she’s on the way. I’d jump out of my window in happiness if something more than friendship happened with her and El🤭

All in all, part 1 so far was disappointing in my opinion. I am eagerly awaiting part 2, hoping it’ll make up for it and not let me down. I hope the Lady Whistledown reveal won’t be downplayed and Colin won’t be like “oh you’re Lady W? Whatever no worries idc” (although idk how it happens in the book)

Okay, I know almost exactly what you mean but I don’t think it’s a spiteful thing at all? Even in the modern day you don’t get lesbian/gay/queer romance in shows or films as frequently as straight romance (naturally because of heteronormativity so they’ll likely prove to be more appealing to the general public), and that absence was much more obvious in the past? When we would have been growing up too?

Anyway, I think it might just be our way of compensating for the lack of shows that openly show queer relationships through creating our own ships in fanon? So I think it’s a normal thing to think about honestly :)

So, I’ve been seeing one particular Buddie fan trying to use HenRen against the BuckTommy shippers now, because apparently they now care that Aisha and Tracey don’t get joint interviews (which is crazy and I agree, but they’re bringing it up for the wrong reasons). Anyways, I don’t want to start something and I don’t want to use our lesbian queens for malice, but since I’m new here and HenRen is my favorite 911 couple I propose we start a HenRen playlist full of sapphic queer and nonbinary artists. I’ll start with some of my favorites:

That chorus just reminds me so much of their first meeting, and how Chimney matched them together so perfectly. It wasn’t love at first sight, and it wasn’t even the best first impression, but they couldn’t stop thinking about each other afterwards, and ahhh! I love them so much.

This song is honestly a little more somber, but still hopeful, and it reminds me mostly of Hen. Before meeting Karen she was in a bad relationship, but she’s never the type to give up on herself, and she found herself where she needed to be. I’m so proud of her.

This song just reminds me so much of their first meeting too. Karen came in hot and Hen was there for it, and the fact that we still got to see the wild side of Karen when they chased down the woman who stole their credit cards. It’s just so fresh to see older gay couples remain so youthful and from the point of the episode, Karen deserves it. (Also, in no point am I calling Karen a mean character like the song suggest, but from Hen’s perspective this song makes sense).

This song just reminds me of their not so happy time when Hen cheated, but it fits them so well from both perspectives (first Karen, Second Hen), and we all saw they got their happy ending that they deserve.

This one doesn’t need explanation, really… they’re just everything for each other.

This song just reminds me of Hen. Every queer child has the fear of how their parents would react to their sexuality, and Hen didn’t seem to have the easiest time with both parents, but her mother didn’t leave her side and although it took some time they got to the place where Mrs. Toni loves and is so proud of her daughter.

This song just speaks to me about how they’re always there for their friends and found family. It’s not necessarily a sapphic song, but it’s them.

This final song is one of my personal favorites. Joy is a blessing of an artist and I’m so glad I found her music this decade. This song reminds me not just of their relationship and how much work they had to put into making it perfect for them, but also about how they went beyond that love and offered it to kids who needed parents, regardless if it was a temporary situation or permanent, they were there to share it. I love them so much. ❤️❤️

here’s a wishlist with a few plots based on guts by olivia rodrigo that i’d really really love to write! (you know the drill, ♡ or hmu if you want to plot any of them). all of them can be f/m or f/f (except for lacy, lacy is definitely sapphic):

making the bed. “and i tell someone i love them just as a distraction, and they tell me that they love me like i’m some tourist attraction.” basically a self-sabotaging, heart-breaking plot where muse a and muse b thought they could get into a situationship and keep it casual, without developing real feelings but they obviously failed. i’m thinking it could’ve been a summer or winter love kind of thing that ended up terribly ‘cause they were being overly cautious with their emotions and ended up getting the other deeply hurt. we could begin once they meet again (on the next summer or winter break?) and the damage is already done.

all-american bitch. muse a is completely amazing at playing the “perfect girl” role, always smiling softly and saying the right thing even if it’s just a massive façade. deep inside, she’s full of anger and has a desire to seek revenge (for what, you may ask? idk, let's plot!). then comes muse b, who can see right through her act and is determined to bring out that honest, horrible and mean side of her.

bad idea, right? muse a and muse b broke up recently. it was the right decision, all their friends are happy about it, they were not good for each other. that doesn’t stop the constant texts asking each other to come over, the sneaking during parties for a quickie and the jealousy when they both start going on dates with other people. basically i’m dying for the bitter comments and the falling for each other and the “this is never going to happen again” promises that neither of them believe.

Well, i really love a lot of ships, and i have a whole bunch of hcs!! like i hc most of the characters as aro/ace-spec like Aviva and Chris being aroace, and zach and Martin being ace-spec. I really REALLY love qprs. I want to gush about them 4 a bit Like my favorite would be Chrisviva, they're super sweet. like they have such a special connection 2 each other in the show also these screenshots

they're both pretty inventive and technical, (except chris is kinda more spur of the moment creative like when he used blades of grass to fix the little worm mobile) n i think like chris is like her cheerleader when she makes inventions lolz

the runner up 4 them is chriszach as a qpr. the way you described them as a qpr is like.. PERFECT. it encapsulated everything that i was feeling about them like if u remember my snow episode idea with bby tooth that was like the start of it like when he calls them wild ratts he separates chris from it and eventually stops saying "Wild Ratts" altogether and like slowly but surely stops using animals for his robots (like almost half of them dont even use the animals) bc he keeps having adventures with Chris and the others and sees that some things/people r worth changing for or something (i have a theory that he would turn good and Paisley is supposed to be his replacement but i'll write abt that later.). I like to think that if/when zach starts to help them out with their missions n stuff him n chris form sum kind of connection thats not romantic but like they care for each other and for each other's safety differently than they do for others n i think thats rlly sweet. Lost in Your Current Like a Priceless Wine

A queer analysis of wine mentions in Taylor Swift’s discography (folklore and evermore)

Rose’ flowing with your chosen family.

Chosen family is a very queer concept. Rose as a lighter version of red wine (literally), and also that it’s casually flowing refers to how this person (who was not “the one”) is able to freely express queerness around their chosen family, whereas Taylor is still digging up the grave another time. We’ll come back to this when I analyze Maroon (your roommate’s cheap-ass screw-top rose). 

August sipped away like a bottle of wine.

God this fucking song. I saw someone say that, since the song is from August's perspective (I know Taylor said "Augustine" but i think August is a prettier name), she’s saying that she herself was sipped away like a bottle of wine, carelessly. When you get to the end of a bottle of wine, you’re drunk and surprised that the bottle is already empty. The song as a whole is about a relationship that was unexpected, wrong, desperate, secret. “Are you sure?” “I’ve never done this before.” (Never have I ever as a teenage party game paired with “seven years in heaven” on happiness.) 

August is a retrospective. It’s nostalgic in lyrics and production. “Wanting was enough, for me it was enough” harkens back to False God and the desperation to stay for the sake of wanting each other. August remembers; she wonders if her former lover does to “do you remember when I pulled up and said get in the car…” The repetition of the outro reminds me of All Too Well 10 Minute Version. It was rare, I was there, I remember it all. Wind in my hair, you were there, you remember it. Wine is so fleeting but it leaves a permanent stain, as we first saw in Clean. 

“Meet me behind the mall” implies a youthful secrecy. August as a part of the cardigan/betty lore solidifies it as a song themed around adolescence. I want to write more on this later, but I believe the queer concept of “second adolescence” plays heavily into folklore, whereas evermore is the end of that adolescence.

Lost in your current like a priceless wine.

I think I’ll do a full queer analysis of willow someday, because the lyrics are actually devastating. The set-up for the song is that this person came into the narrator’s life unexpectedly and derailed her plans dramatically. We have secrecy (“wait for the signal and I’ll meet you after dark”),  the lover feeling exceptional from others (“as if you were a mythical thing”), and desperation for the lover to stay as they’re leaving  (“Wherever you stray, I”ll follow; I’m begging for you to take my hand”).

Here in the first verse, Taylor says she’s “lost in your current.” She didn’t mean to fall, but it’s “like a priceless wine,” the most meaningful love she’s had. The most meaningful, but once the bottle is open, that wine gets sipped away. It’s the best thing that’s ever been hers, and it’s almost gone. The rest of the album is about loss and endings.

And drink my husband’s wine.

Ivy is almost universally believed to be sapphic (though non-gaylors will call it fictional). It’s very Emily Dickinson (I watched all of Dickinson on Apple TV+ to get to the moment this song plays). Ivy is about an extremely risky affair, one that will inevitably end in fire and destruction, but one that is beautiful. There are so many queer themes included in the lyrics. What is more “magnificently cursed” than being queer and forced to hide it?

In ivy, to “drink my husband’s wine” means drinking it both secretly and in a way that takes from said husband. This wine is supposed to be the husband’s, but now it represents what the illicit lover can’t have. (i’ll mention here that I also think wine could also be a metaphor for pussy. tried to find a more delicate way to say it but u get it.) If wine represents sexuality, the context of it being her “husband’s wine” implies that, while they may continue to be together in secret, there will always be the shadow of this man looming over them. They’ll never truly belong to each other as long as the narrator is forced to stay in a heteronormative relationship.

Summary: here, wine is used in the context of loss. The end of the bottle is the end of the relationship. What was once full and beautiful and light has become sour and empty.

I just saw a “happy pride” tiktok of a girl saying trans men can’t be lesbians, only transmascs can. And I know I have 0 life experience with women despite being a lesbian, so who am I to say who is or who isn’t. But that’s my entire point. Who are you to say who is and who isn’t? I just don’t believe anyone should tie their pride into protecting and gatekeeping their label

Like, I know someone whose partner transitioned to male, and they were pressured into changing their identity to bi afterwards. But that’s not them, they both still identify as being in a lesbian relationship. Who are any of us to pop in and label them and their relationship? That’s their business. He doesn’t feel invalidated by it, and that’s all that matters. I wish them both every happiness

I also know of trans men who call themselves dykes or lesbians, or feel their attraction to women is sapphic. Why would I have the right to pop into their business and tell them they’re not allowed to use that language? That’s not my business! Their love for women will never be the same as a cishet man’s. If those labels feel right to them that’s all that matters!!

Pride for me is for the entire community. I love queer people, we’re family. Pride as a lesbian for me, is that I love that I love women. I love that I get to be a part of a whole community who loves women like I love women. And I love everyone else feels at home in this label. My pride is based on a love for all lesbians, not excluding it to those I deem as lesbians.

All I’m saying is, if you’re online and want to market yourself as a queer activist, I wish that you’d focus your energies more on the safety and livelihood of lesbians rather than drawing lines around who you think is allowed to call themself a lesbian. Instead of identity policing, how about we try dealing with the rampant transphobia of cis lesbians? We can’t even get cis lesbians to accept trans women, and this is what you want to focus your energy on? Are you in this community for internet points or to love and protect real life queer people? anyway…happy pride to all lesbians

i really liked the seven husbands of evelyn hugo and i had no idea it was an unpopular opinion on tumblr until now 😭 that being said, i do want to know why (in your opinion) it's so hated bc i'd like to understand

uhhhhh i can’t fully answer why it’s hated here. i did like it at first but over time i just realized it’s not the best.

1. taylor jenkins reid got evelyns ethnicity wrong as i saw someone point out that where she says she’s from her family would drink rum and not tequila (if i remember right)

2. i personally don’t like how she handled celia’s character over time. she spent the majority of the book being biphobic and insecure that evelyn would leave her then she is just accepting of evelyn being bi right at the end. i understand it was a different time but we weren’t really given any like formal conversation about it and it feels very… cheap i guess to just throw it in at the end. (im also just really tired of seeing sapphic relationships where one party is insecure the other would leave her for a man but that’s a whole other can of worms)

3. i don’t like how connor hugo (i think that’s her name, it’s evelyn and harry’s daughter) was treated. she was a very minor character and we only see her in chunks and it’s her being stable before harry dies, her being a wild child after his death, evelyn literally telling her she’s gay and so was her dad and they had a lavender marriage only for her to say “i don’t care please just get out”, then she becomes buddy buddy with celia’s brother and magically all her issues that are from her fathers death are solved. like that’s a fine arc but we weren’t shown any of that and she in my opinion should’ve had more story time. but the point of the biography is to talk about her relationships so it wouldn’t really come up

4. i think TJR handled celia’s biphobia poorly (as stated before) but i also think she handled evelyns reaction to it poorly. like it might’ve just been evelyn assigning blame to herself in grief but the second time they broke up stemmed a lot more from celia being insecure about evelyn leaving her for a man rather than evelyn not fully considering celia’s feeling like when she married mick riva in vegas. like yes, evelyn should’ve said she was going to have sex with him but her being so fucking upset that she was planning on doing a quickie wedding to keep suspicions off them having an affair and RUINING both their lives feels really fucking weird. like yes, they shouldn’t have had to hide their relationship like celia says, but celia should be very well acquainted with what would happen to them and their careers if they’re found out. but again in my opinion celia’s reaction to that was more due to, how TJR says it, celia viewed evelyn as “a lesbian when she was happy and a straight woman when she was upset”. the second time though i’ll give more evelyn credit on her saying it’s primarily her fault since she should told celia she was going to do a sex scene with her ex husband, but celia still being so hurt and offended about harry and evelyn having sex so evelyn could get pregnant (to once again AVOID SUSPICION THAT THEYRE GAY) to the point she wouldn’t let evelyn do things for her job and career because it made her insecure doesn’t leave a good taste in my mouth. like the biphobia should’ve been explored a lot more and feels oddly used at times.

5. this book has done irreparable damage to gaylors/kaylors as a lot of them now think this somehow proves taylor swift is gay and will one day come out ala evelyn hugo style and have just now assumed she closeted despite taylor saying she’s straight and uncomfortable by people saying she’s dating/fucking her friends (like REPEATEDLY). so i personally don’t like the book for that reason too

My Playchoices MCs #3

I really enjoyed Murder at Homecoming overall, despite the kind of underwhelming murderer reveal, so I wanted to finish the edit before the finale this week. I feel like the book really shined when it came to character writing, including the main character. They’re really cute too, I just wish their skin tone in game wasn’t so unnaturally cold. Other than that, I haven’t changed much about their appearance, except details like the bangs, glasses and makeup & I’m really happy with the complete look. More notes under the cut.

I named them Reese after my favourite kid detective Riz Gukgak. In their case, Reese is short for Theresa.

They are really smart, but also stubborn and blunt to the point of being rude, and personally, I enjoyed that A LOT.

I honestly don’t have that many headcanons about them because they are a very well-established character already but here’s one: they’re neurodivergent.

Reese has one of those super aesthetic daily planners/journals decorated with stickers and pressed flowers. She uses it to keep track of both her school and work-related stuff, as well as things like books she plans to read. It’s super detailed and well-organised.

In general, Reese likes to spend time decorating and personalising all of their stuff and personal spaces. It’s like they bring their aesthetic everywhere they go.

She identifies as a sapphic demigirl, and she has very specific reasons as to why those labels specifically.

Vegetarian.

Wears earphones like 90% of the time, at part because they are not a fan of noisy crowds. Mostly listens to podcasts and audiobooks and lo-fi hip hop music.

Has dramatic inner monologues about how ‘this city is rotten to the core’ noir detective style.

Is unsurprisingly a big fan of Sherlock Holmes stories, but hates most of the adaptations because she’s a book purist and ‘None of them get his character right.’ Has a particular disdain for the BBC series.

There is a lot more than just liking women when it comes to being lesbian. There is a lot of social pressure lesbians endure and a lot of internal pressure. I share the fellow attraction towards women with lesbians, but I also have to acknowledge that I’ll never exactly experience what they experience from people in society. Despite my major preference for women, I also like men, which can be seen as “redeemable” by violent homophobes. Lesbians do not like men at all, which can make them much more of a larger target than me.

You also have to realize the media that gives a lot of lesbians comphet (compulsive heterosexuality) and makes it hard for them to realize and stick with the fact that they’re lesbians. You also have to realize that sapphic relationships are not that different that hetero relationships. Yes, in my personal experience, loving another woman feels vastly different than loving a man, but a woman can do all of the things a man can do to you in a relationship. Sapphic relationships aren’t always all happy and flowery, y’know?

It sounds like you are attracted to both men and women, so what’s stopping you from seeking out a gf? :-)

I also do not mean any of this in a harsh way, I just need others to realize that being a lesbian isn’t just liking other women/non men. There’s so much more to it, and not that easy to just say “i wish I was a lesbian”.

it’s similar with gay men too, that there is a lot more than just liking men/non women.

Poly relationships are generally often overlooked in general, and if a game has one or two, they tend to be gender mixed. As a sapphic leaning bi woman, I'm of course absolutely fine with that setup, but as the sapphic leaning part that I mentioned entails, I do prefer women more. Nothing beats a soft lesbian poly relationship in my honest opinion, haha.

i feel weird sending this and i really hope i’m not offensive in any way i’m just lost :( i can like the idea of men, i would fall in love with them without exchanging any words bc they would fit my idea of Perfect Guy to be The One. well, in reality (talking to them) they were always boring and i would feel weird and disconnected from them. It’s normal to have questions and to be confused about your identity.

Let me understand: the men you like are usually the ones you imagine? You only like them when they’re in your imagination? When it comes to real life men and attainable men you don’t feel anything towards them?

If I understood you correctly those men aren’t real. They’re something your mind created of what’s a perfect man. A perfect man does not exist so that attraction to them could be fake attraction because you’re only being attracted to the idea of perfection.

The moments you mentioned you think you feel attraction to men, what do you feel? Something that’s very common to happen is to mistake attraction with finding people attractive. The first one comes with more intense feelings: maybe you feel like you want to date them, kiss them, have anything sexual with them, maybe even feel butterflies because of them. When it comes to finding someone attractive you’re simply recognizing the person’s physical beauty, it’s not attraction if you don’t feel anything else that’s positive. Gay men can find women attractive, straight women can find women attractive, straight men can find men attractive and lesbians can find men attractive and they’re all still not attracted to those people.

About the last questions you made: if you’re still questioning your identity there’s terms like queer and sapphic you could use before figuring out if you’re actually attracted to men or not. But you could also test the labels if you’re questioning your attraction to men.

I will always recommend people like you that are questioning if they’re bi or lesbian to read both the lesbian masterdoc and the bisexual manifesto. I also advise watching some of the videos on this tag.
