ok but!! ive been reading some fw theories in the subreddit, and one that has a lot of diff opinions on is whether liam has a second signet or if he was wielding ice in that scene, especially since deigh’s name means ice. what are your thoughts, do you think it was just a mistake?? and what about liam in your universe?

FOURTH WING AND IRON FLAME SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT. this ramble is not going to be proofread, nor supported with textual evidence, because I have a migraine. but if anyone wants to jump in with page numbers and quotes or things I missed / got wrong, please feel free! 

in short: I think it’s possible that Liam did have a second signet.

first, my only hangup on this theory: what are the odds of two riders in the same squad, in the same year, having the same signet (Ridoc and Liam)? I know some signets are more rare than others, but that’s still a very slim chance when there’s 20+ signets out there that we know of, and RY will probably come up with more (fr, I need to know what Garrick and Aaric's signets are. I hope they're something unique, that we haven't seen yet.) but here are a few arguments in favor of two-signet Liam:

one: I don’t think it was just “RY putting the wrong name”.

Ridoc wasn’t there at Resson, so RY would have to have confused the two boys entirely for it to be a mistake. besides them both being perfect little bbs and adoring fans of Violet, they’re not alike in appearance, dragon color, nor backstory -- what is Ridoc’s deal? like why did he want to become a rider? I need to know for my next gfverse chapter 😭 and the mistake would also have to slip past multiple rounds of editors and proofreaders as well, which is possible, but not probable.  and was Ridoc's signet even confirmed at that time? maybe this is me forgetting things, because ADHD, and it’s been a while since I’ve read FW in full, but the first time I remember hearing about Ridoc’s signet is in Iron Flame — when they’re at RSC and he’s like “I could force the locks open with ice”. that confused me at the time because I didn’t know about (or remember) his signet. and then it really clicked for me later, when he makes an ice pack for poor Brennan after Mira decks him lmao. is it mentioned earlier than that? when I search “ice” in my FW ebook it shows me every instance of “voice” and "nice" and “office” etc., too, and I'm not scrolling through all that 🙄 and neither of the reference sites I like to use have a page number listed for him getting his signet or the first time it’s mentioned. as another aside: look how gorgeous Ridoc is here. smash. EDIT TO ADD: it is mentioned in Fourth Wing, in one line on page 289 (as identified by @hockeyspiral23 - thank you!) but he doesn't actually use it. no wonder my adhd brain forgot about it when there were bigger issues at hand lol they also pointed out that it could still have been a mistake, if RY meant to have it be another one of the barely-mentioned marked riders who aren't part of the main gang, as ice-wielding is "a common signet" (FW p. 289), and there were a few students we never really met apart from Resson (including Masen and Soleil. RIP.) so it could have been one of them. another possible explanation that I just came up with for the mistake category -- unreliable narrator? the events of that day were incredibly distressing for Vi, and she literally gets poisoned and loses consciousness and doesn't wake up for three days (following the theory that FW and IF are her diary, written in an ancient language and translated by Jesinia later) so it could have been a blur / hard to remember and VIOLET could have gotten it wrong. If I were RY, and it was a genuine mistake, this is the explanation I would give lmao

two: Deigh meaning ice is another tally in the “not a mistake” column.

RY likes to have the dragons' names refer to their current rider's signets. (Tairn = thunder, Aimsir = weather...) but not all of them match (Tiene = fire, I think, and Mira makes shields.) Liam and the ice is only mentioned once, at Resson, but there are many characters who we don't see getting their signet -- really just Vi's sex-induced lightning, and a mention of Sawyer nearly killing someone in a swordfight on accident. and Sloane's siphoning, too. okay, maybe this isn't a great point. but I still want to hear how they figured these things out! especially Bodhi. and Xaden's second one. poor thing couldn't tell anyone, even his best friend, and had to figure out how to manage it entirely on his own (he had Sgaeyl, but that's it.) and maybe Liam didn’t realize he had the ice until Resson, and just started slinging icicles at the wyvern once he figured out that he could. though that's kinda unlikely, I guess, since he would have channeled in November or December and Resson wasn't until July... hm.

three: Deigh could have been the dragon of Liam's relative, giving him a second signet like Xaden has with Sgaeyl.

it’s my understanding that Liam, like all the marked ones (except my addition of Darling and her little sibs) were military kids, and his mom is mentioned in IF as being the one to weave the protection runes, which I believe requires a level of magic that only a rider would have. so he has at least one relative who was a rider, and therefore probably more. ngl, at first I thought it was mad suspicious that his parents were executed separately from everyone else’s, but then we didn’t meet them in Aretia, so I guess they really are dead. but how mf heartbreaking would it be if they were alive -- and the first time they see their son in a whole year of him being gone at Basgiath, it’s Xaden carrying his body into the fortress 😭 and Vi and X crying and apologizing to Mama Mairi for not being able to save him… I’M SO SORRY. IT JUST CAME TO ME, AND I HAD TO WRITE IT DOWN. if any FW writer wants to write that AU, go for it. we could all use another good cry. there seems to be a trend of the dragons who had Tyrrish riders purposely (and "illegally") bonding the descendants of their previous riders. - Xaden has a second signet from Sgaeyl as his grandfather was one of her former riders, allegedly, but he "didn't make it out of the quadrant"? so he had a kid (Fen, Xaden's dad?) before graduating? is that why Xaden mentions that his dad hated dragon riders in one of his letters to Vi? - and then I believe Imogen has the dragon of a relative, but not a direct relative, so she doesn't have a second signet, but the one she does have is just really strong? I feel like they glossed over that a little too quickly, and it remains unclear to me how that whole thing works. - and now maybe Liam, too?

I might tack more stuff on below as it comes to me, or RB with commentary, but I think that's all I've got for now.

but regardless of if it was a mistake or not, I’m not planning on putting it in Liam and Spark’s story — just his farsight, which is confirmed multiple times. if Spark believed in the gods, she’d thank them for not giving him something as destructive and deadly as her water, but Li’s still gonna have some issues with it, because I feel the need to project my issues onto my fave characters, and everyone loves some mild hurt/comfort that’s resolved with cuddles and a nap, right? 🥰

Mick is done with all of his debriefs and strategy meetings and he's looking for bono!reader so they can leave the track for the day. She's the lead aerodynamicist and the team is still trying to optimize the car for the weekend so she is working with all of the engineers to figure out a few more things for quali.

Mick is trying to find her and goes to her office to tell her he's ready to leave. "BB, let's go. Dinner's waiting!" he calls as he comes around the corner - expecting her to be alone. (She’s usually the last one still working and he often finds her pouring over data. It’s not uncommon for him to have to drag her away from the computer at the end of the day.) Everyone on the team already knows about them and looks after them like they're their own kids, but he still can't hide his embarrassment as 8 people turn around and look at him.

Mick knows bono!reader is the smartest woman he's ever met and he adores her, so even though he's tired and hungry and really doesn't want to think about aero performance anymore for the day, he pulls up a chair behind her and joins the meeting as she starts up again. “As I was saying," she continues, pointing to the charts and data on the screen. He can't help but sit there and stare as she walks through the different car setups they tried during practice.

He knows how hard she works and how much the whole team respects her, but to truly see her work is something else. He's so proud of her. Everyone gives him a hard time for voluntarily going to more aero meetings now, but what can he do? He loves spending time with her and watching her work, and it’s made him smarter as a driver and helped improve the car, so really win-win-win. It also doesn’t hurt that he has someone who will always advocate for what he wants on the car (and she’ll tell him when his ideas are wrong, too.) 

When they're finally done and grabbing their stuff to leave, one of the engineers stops mick and says, “don’t worry, we all adore her too.” (Maybe his puppy dog eyes and helpless grin were more noticeable than he thought) (the whole team still sees her as their daughter and are endlessly amazed and proud of the work she does and the leader she’s become within the team.) He just blushes and pulls on his coat as he follows bono!reader out into the paddock. It's dark out now and the little bits of light play in her hair as she walks toward the exit.

The way this man would BLUSH when he sees she’s not alone lol I can see him bringing her snacks and food when shes too busy too, just knocking on her door and dropping the lunch bag giving her a pointed look, somedays she’ll stop him for a quick kiss then go back to her lunch and datas, somedays he’ll just drop the bag with a post it telling her to eat everything and that he loves her 😭😭😭😭😭 he’ll def bring candy/pastry to the whole team when he’s bringing some to her and thats yet another reason why the whole sim team just consider them the best couple

To clarify I forgot to mention but tarot orange did state that BB would give T an ultimatum more than once but wouldn't know how to handle the situation because she didn't want to come off as insecure bur she's still coming off like that.

Also, my friend did say BB's behavior would fluctuate and that T is afraid of losing her but more afraid of losing R because she did say she wouldn't be as forgiving if he ghosted her again. I’m so glad you’re enjoying Twisted Wonderland! It’s so much fun and I kinda just started a month or so ago, so to answer a few things/to tell you a few things I wish I knew when I was just starting out (lol):

SSR cards are the highest rarity cards you can get.

Besides the prologue, so far in English there are 6 books that have been released (up to Idia). Malleus’s story has been partially released in Japanese and not at all in English yet. But there are plenty of events and the creator has said there will be more content even after this storyline.

The vignettes do not raise the power of a card, however they do add fun little stories you can read to learn more about a character and their interactions with others. And when you finish reading each part, you get gems. So, while vignettes are not required, they are a very fun addition. They also give you a sneak peek at what the card will look like once you groovify it (Groovifying it makes it stronger).

Don’t forget beyond leveling up your cards to also LEVEL UP YOUR SPELLS! That is so helpful and can be done when you view the cards individually (the button next to the mirror) and go to the “spell levels” tab. This makes even weak attacks stronger and some attacks get bonuses at higher levels!

The exams, the guest room/crafters gauntlet, and friendship boosts are important. Especially the friendship levels - so be sure to take the alchemy lessons with Crewel. Friendship popcorn is your friend as well.

And last but not least……… LEONA DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER IN HIS BOOK OMFG. The reason why we all say his story is the worst is not only because the end is so rushed and he just kinda comes off as a jerk, but like… he as the main focus of the overblot barely gets ANY screen time or focus. We’re focused more on Ruggie tbh. And it SUCKS. But the novelization is apparently SO much better in this regard. There was a tumblr post going into this and Leona’s post overblot speech and it just hits home SO HARD. And I really wish the game had done more for Leona because our lion man deserved better. 😭😭😭

okay now for some more fun updates!! i had fun at uni yesterday!! we had a super fun soil science lab we got to go into soil pits on the farm our campus has and analyze soil (ph, diagnostic horizons, colour, structure, texture etc) !! It was a lot of fun I’m gonna miss the class and my prof :( (it was my last lab)

another fun thing is its art market week at my uni so time to drop a ton of money on prints, stickers and crocheted animals !!! :D

AND okay so I made it into a special like abroad research kinda program/course in like that’s usually only available to upper years students but somehow I made it in alskkskdjdj . Anyways, we get to go to South Africa from like May 14-June 9 to do research and stuff in the field!!! and like IM SO EXCITED??? So anyways, the 19 students that also made it in (it’s a highly competitive program to get into) we had our second group meet up plus our prof (who taught my favourite class by far last term) yesterday and it was a lot of fun and we got free dinner which was super super yum and I can’t believe I’m actually going ahhhhh

and then I went to a friends house for dinner (yes, dinner again) which was fun we like catch up at least once a month and yeah

AHHHH UR UNI LAB SOUNDED SO FUN I love labs where you just get to go outside and do stuff in nature it’s fr so healing 👼 I took a geology course in college where we got to go to this creek near my school and like test the ph balance of the water and it was so much fun being outside instead of cooped up in the lecture hall fr one of the best labs we ever did. AND the art market this week???? RAHHH HAVE SO MUCH FUN we used to have something similar at my uni and I would drop SO much on stickers not even joking my laptop is covered in them still :’)

Even one of my favourite sites, Cake Wrecks, does a feature on Sundays were it's cakes they think are really nicely-decorated so it's not all downers.

I already read fics that I enjoy - reread old ones, look out for new ones, write a good few myself (here's two of them lol). I read my trashy little otome isekai villainess manhuas that I love to death. I play the shit out of Hades. I play DnD with irl buds every Wednesday. I'm watching - and rewatching - episodes of the new Bleach anime, and am eagerly awaiting for June to come around to give more. I play Smash Ultimate with my big sis and lil bro. I replay VW every now and then. I play BBS and hope to finally pull the last couple Valentine's/Academy Momo's I need to have fully completed all the Momo's in the game (so far).

I already do plenty of things that I thoroughly enjoy doing - I talk about the fic a lot here, but y'all don't have to worry; I do, in fact, do things I enjoy doing lmao.

But! I do want to give some attention to fics I really enjoy! I've already talked about most of them before, but it never hurts to do it again lol. Most of them are dmcl so if that's not up your alley, well, rip, but if it is then yeah!

Princes of Silver and Gold is sooo good - and very meaty! It deals with Dimitri and Claude getting bopped back to the prologue after the events of Saving Derdriu, after a mysterious spell seems to ambush them during a moment of peace. It's has a lot per chapter to take in - 4 chapters, +129,000 words, a very dense read - but imo it never feels like too much. I've reread this a good few times actually! There's a lot of 3H's lore that's played around with and given more oomph to it that really makes the fic feel alive, which is always nice.

Be Not Proud: an absolute downer for sure, can't ever get through it without snivellin' and snottin', but it's a really touching look into Nader and Claude's relationship. It revolves around Claude's last moments on a CF run where he isn't spared - very sad oneshot, but very memorable imo.

Everyone Leaves Eventually: an interesting oneshot about the Black Eagles leaving Edelgard's side one by one as she gets more and more aggressive with her war, from Hubert's POV. Granted, Hubert is more than a smidge OOC for it to work - he's given a good bit more morality than he's shown to ever have canonically - but as a concept it's interesting, and it's a neat read all around. If you're willing to accept that this Hubert is less like canon!Hubert than he ought to be, I'd definitely recommend it!

Survivor's Burden: another one that's kind of a downer, but with a much happier ending than Be Not Proud. Revolving around the idea of Claude and Dimitri surviving SS Gronder, with Claude doing his best to keep him and Dimitri alive in the woods. It's a bit long for a oneshot - a bit over 30,000 words for one sitting - but! It's definitely worth it imo. Plus! It was part of the dmcl Big Bang that happened a couple years ago, so this one also has great art to go along with it at certain points!

to this vow, i hold fast: yet again this is being recommended by me lmao because it is beyond amazing. It's a slow-burn dmcl political-marriage AU of post-war Fodlan, and it's just a joy to read through. The one thing I'll say about this one, as much as I love it to bits, is that, hm... you can tell the author also ships Dimi///leth. Understandable what I mean by that once you read it, and it can be quite a bit annoying to see it imo, but also imo it doesn't take enough away from the quality for me to ever do anything but recommend it lol. This multi-chapter fic is actually almost complete, from what I understand! So there's that too.

seeking humanity: a dmcl AU where Claude is a traveler and Dimitri is (seemingly, anyway) the god of death, and they make a pact: Claude either gets Dimitri to like humans in half a year's time, or he gives up his soul to Dimitri. I am a huge fan of how the characters are, well, characterized in this fic; everyone is just a joy to read through! Even characters I don't care that much for (especially with how they tend to be written in fics), like Leonie and Lorenz, are just great. And the mysteries this fic has in it are also really fun to think about, with all the crumbs the story lays down to try and follow.

It was the first fic I started reading for litg and it’s so incredibly beautifully written and MC Azul is just so loveable and bb Will is portrayed just so perfectly🥹 it’s not finished and is currently on hiatus, but I really hope the author will come back to it one day because I’ll be patiently waiting for chapter 12 until the day I die❤️

Talk to Me is what it IS because of the thoughts and analysis people contributed. It is SO much better because of them and everything that I wrote since is so much better because of them. On my end, I will say the way I respond to comments is by incorporating them into the way I think about what comes next. I do my best to respond to everything on tumblr but sometimes, time constraints means focusing on the writing and answering that way. I hope people understand that. Another work is a long form response to the shares and comments. Also, if you’re sharing or commenting on something old, you are still contributing to the writer’s current and future work! Please “overthink” away and don’t feel embarrassed. I spent hours (days, weeks) on each chapter of Talk to Me doing my best to carefully thread the story and themes, to plant the character pivots, to explore their psychology and choices. Even my daily one-shots can take 8 to 10 hours to write to build out who the character is in that moment, their relationships, the people around them. Even my recurring OCs have character profiles 😂 Then there’s hours of research and working through things that need tweaking. And I don’t have a beta so it’s also the time spent doing my best to trim and edit my own work so I can get it out as fast as possible. Maybe with that context it won’t feel like overthinking 😅

My life was a disaster, writing was a distraction and I didn’t know how to ask for a refuel before I ran out of gas. I’m still learning how to do that. I wrote a happy post because that seemed easier for people to understand and more acceptable than the truth that I was sad and hurt and withdrawing. It’s true, I’ll need more time for the reasons stated. But I get my squee from knowing you all get your squee. So I came back to see if maybe we could all get our squee? I want to keep giving what joy I can ❤️

Cheryl I wish I was that organised in my life the way you are with your writing 😁 honestly the level of organisation just shows up in the way you write as well bcz each of your plots that I have had the honour to read have been immaculate!

I'm not sure (because I'm kinda scatter brained this year) whether I left any feedback on the map of Mrs Kim chapter 1 and honestly I'm quoting most of this from memory since it's been a few weeks since I read it so here goes:

First impressions : judging by the multiple drabbles we were spoiled with, we had a general idea of the plot already and that whetted our apetite for what's to come as well made us a little more in love with the concept of a healthy happy marriage between the 2 Kims and the enthusiasm she has to get her sons hitched. I love this family so much 😂😁 the chapter didn't disappoint! I think as a vibe it was a very warm family based narrative where we got sufficient insight into each character which I appreciate a lot as a reader because I don't have to keep guessing about their vibe and wait for the world building to keep going at its pace. Some writers don't know their characters and we as readers keep guessing if it's a grey character or a stupid one 😂

Pacing is great. It was not a slow chapter. Infact it was a very suburban middle class Saturday family gathering vibe to me which is very relatable (uve given myself away lmao)

Mrs Kim and her business cards had me ROLLING AND CLAPPING - THAT WOMAN IS A GO GETTER hahahhahahahaha

Her maternal warmth was such a comforting element in this chapter and im sure throughout the series.

I don't remember Mr Kim much at this point since it's been a while I read it I'm sorry but I'm sure he was great and salivating after his wife and making inappropriate dad jokes 😂

And, y’know, I think that has been the most fun with this little experiment of ours? The characterization! They all started out as itty bitty Boots-toting drabble babies lol, and you all have been so kind and generous, giving the story and characters room to grow.
