What it's like to date Cole Brookstone
The dragons rising trailer gave me Cole fever 😭😭 so yk I just gotta do a Cole post to appreciate this lego man's existence
Enjoy this yall heheh
Tumblr media
Starting off strong: texting. The guy will spam you if you don't answer within 5 minutes
He's always worrying if something bad had happened to you 😭
He's also a ninja (obviously) so he's gonna be busy most of the time
That doesn't mean he doesn't make time for you though heheh
Before he'd leave for a mission he'd send you a sweet message, or leave small pouch of your favourite sweets for you
For your 3 month anniversary, he got you a pair of headphones
They're extra special bc they match with his <3
He sends you gym pics. Ok? He just does.
Mainly because he knows on the other side of that screen you're a blushing mess
Sometimes Cole will just walk around you shirtless to tease you, because he knows you're always gonna be staring
If you can bake, this man will BEG you to make cakes.
If you can't, you at least try. He'll always eat them, even if they are a little burnt
Its the thought that counts though, right?
His love language is touch, so you guys cuddle often
If cuddling isn't really your thing, that's okay! He'll settle for always holding your hand
When it comes to kissing however, hes so passionate that you usually have to lean on something, like a wall or a table 😭
When things get a little steamy he'll definitely be hoisting you up and wrapping his arms around you
(HELP WHY AM I GRINNING WHILE WRITING THIS AHAHAHAHSHS)
Your dates usually consist of desert places, picnics, and CD/Vinyl records shopping
He love love loves music so whenever you tag along with him to these shops he loves it, and also really appreciates the company
Sometimes you both put in one ear each of Cole's earphones and just lie on his bed together listening to music
Its so therapeutic for both of you
He tried to teach you how to play the drums a few times, but you're horrible at it, sorry 💀
(Unless you can acc play the drums ofc)
When you met Lou, he told you a bunch of funny stories about his dance lessons as a kid
Cole gets so annoyed whenever he does this but you think its cute <333
Lou would also go on to tell you how much Lily would've loved you
It felt a little uncomfortable talking about his mother, because you know how much of a sensitive subject it is for him
But Cole did agree, you reminded him a little of his mother
In truth, Lou sees himself and Lily in you and Cole
Although he denies it, Cole loves it when you trace his scars
Especially the ghost scar on his forehead
Also loves it when you trace his jaw
Whenever you randomly do, I promise this guy WILL just melt right there
Since his hair is really long, you're always trying out random hairstyles on him
He always protests, but he really does love it hehe
The man is such a tease, sometimes he'll swoop down to capture your lips in a kiss, only for him to kiss the corner of your mouth instead
Other times (when you're alone ofc,) Cole trails kisses down your neck and just randomly stops, and you always complain
He finds you so adorable when you're complaining 😭
He has a passion for singing, but will never sing in front of anyone apart from you
Most of the time, whenever he sings to you its a love song that both of you like 🥰
He's usually a pretty chill boyfriend, and doesn't normally get jealous
But on the very rare occasion that he does, he won't show it
Instead he'll get all pouty and whenever you ask what's wrong, his only response is to pull you into a hug
He'll most likely feel a little self-conscious and wonder if you're becoming uninterested in him
DONT give Cole a reason to feel sad. Do not. 😒
Anyways
He didn't tell the ninja he had a partner until Jay and Nya spotted you two in a vinyl records store holding hands
They interrogated the poor thing for like 3 hours when he got back
But once they all met you they really liked you!
Kai and Jay subjected you to more embarrassing Cole stories, which the earth ninja was NOT happy about
He prefers to spend time with you alone, away from other people
He vents to you a lot of the time and tells you about his struggles and his feelings
Hes actually really open with you, but he never pressures you to tell him anything
He wants to be able to earn your trust <3
(Sorry for any typos!!)
That is all ! I hope you guys enjoyed this little hc post 🤭 stay tuned for more !!

IM BACKKKK, can i get jamie with a reader who gets really overstimulated easily. like maybe it's when r first comes home from a long day at work or something, and he's just like BLARING music, and r just starts spiraling, and jamie can't figure out why—until he does.
that was very self-indulgent, but do with it what you will. 🫶🫶🫶🫶

you come home tired, already a little dizzy in the head. through the door you can hear your boyfriend's music and you sigh, turning the handle and pushing the door open. across the room, the vinyl player sits, playing one of his favourite songs at full volume, and now that you're in the room, it feels so much louder than it did in the hallway.
when james hears the front door close, his head snaps up from the journal he was writing in and when his gaze lands on you, he smiles. ”hey doll, welcome home.” you return the smile, although yours isn't genuine, it's irritated and forced, and james can tell. but before he can stop you to ask what's wrong, you've walked off to the bedroom and closed the door.
after about fifteen minutes, he gets up, leaving the music playing. when he nudges the bedroom door open, he sees you sat with your back against the headboard, knees pulled up to your chest and your head in your knees. you weren't crying, and he felt a small wave of relief come over him. ”close the door..” you muttered right as james was about to step closer to you. hesitantly, he shut the door and took small steps closer to you. ”s'something wrong love?” he sits close to you but still on the edge of the bed, one leg crossed on the bed while the other dangles off the edge. you don't say anything, you can't. it's all getting too loud. all you can manage is to lift your head enough to nod a yes. subconsciously, his bottom lips moves out past his top and his lips downturn. while your head is still up, you notice.
”is there anything i can do precious?” it was the overwhelming sound of the music in the next room. you knew that much, but you couldn't stop the switch in your brain that went from silent to screaming. james looked at you with such intent despite your yelling about work and your colleagues and the boss and your family. but still, you didn't say anything about the music. james only nodded along to your loud complaints. you rarely ever snapped at him so when you did, it wasn't only unexpected, it was a little bit scary too. then the switch is off again, and you're leaning back against the headboard, shutting your mouth tight. ”i'm gonna go make you something to eat, i know you had a hard day today..” his words are quiet and shaky, and you feel bad about your outburst. it's not his fault. ”would you please come with me?” he outstretches his hand to you and your gaze shifts between his eyes and his palm. timidly, you place your hand in his and the two of you walk out of the bedroom.
as soon as the volume is risen again against your ears, you go to retract your hand from his, except he does it first. he moves to turn the music down, way down, and then decidedly off. at first you think he could read your mind, but then he speaks. ”c'mon, gotta be able to hear you talk.”
”okay, what about?” your voice is at a normal volume and your tone is stable and james is confused. ”wha-” somehow in his mind, he pieces things together. the storming off, and outburst and the silence, the loud music. he pieced it together because marlene was the same way when he was in school. james reaches to take both of your hands in his and bring them up to his lips for quick, gentle kisses. ”was it the sound? if so m'sorry love.” for a moment you're left in a haze, mostly about how he figured it out and you just stare at him.
”yeah.” finally, the word escapes your mouth as you let out air you didn't even know you were holding in. ”how did you–”
”marls was the same. but believe me y/n if i had known it'd cause you issues i wouldn't have–” you cut him off with a squeeze of his hands. ”jamie. it's fine. you didn't know.” he looked at you with heavy regret, like he could cry. he looked like a kicked puppy. by his hands in yours, you pulled him a little closer to you and pulled one of your hands out of tangle and placed it against his cheek. ”i promise jamie, i'm okay.” he nods against your hand, leaning into the warm touch. ”i need you to promise to give me some kind of sign you're uncomfortable if anything like that ever happens again.”
you almost laugh, you knew james wouldn't let it happen again, at least not in your own home. but james' serious expression makes you swallow your laugh and bite back an amused smile. ”i promise.”

As an autistic person, I can't stop thinking about autistic!van x autistic!reader and helping each other with struggles and all that.
What do you think?
Hi there, also as an autistic person I absolutely adore the concept of autistic!Van x autistic!reader, so I'm gonna write these out as head-cannons, since I have many thoughts on it.
Also I am gonna elaborate more on some of these in the Van x Reader fic I have lined up, so yeah, look out for that if you're interested.
Quick disclaimer: I've only been diagnosed recently (but have pretty much known I am for the last year, I just needed stuff filled out etc, so I could finally have a proper diagnosis), so I'm pretty new at understanding my autistic traits, and if they are to do with my autism or are just me in general, so this is gonna be based off my own experiences and what I've seen about autistic traits.
Also I may have accidently integrated dating head-cannons or general Van head-cannons, since I couldn't really tell the difference, so enjoy those as well if there are any.

Food:
Safe/Comfort Foods: PB and J's, Donuts, Cinnamon Rolls (any pastries really), Pretzels, Pop Tarts (doesn't really have a favourite flavour but absolutely hates the strawberry ones, although that could just be me deflecting), Chocolate Chip cookies, Twizzlers.
That sort of stuff.
-----
When you went through a baking/cooking hyper-fixation (or bake/cook in general), you made sure all the recipes catered to both of your food preference's.
This includes the time you made huge batches of different types cookies, (chocolate chip, which Van loved the most, was the main favourite) and you now make them for her when she gets sad to cheer her up.
-----
She also carries a pouch of sour gummy bears wherever she goes (as a grounding technic I guess), in case she gets anxious or overwhelmed when she's not at home (which I do and it works every time, in case people wanna do that and know how well that works).
-----
Media:
Watches video tapes of her favourite shows/movies from the 90's to help comfort her when she goes non-verbal and when she occasionally has meltdowns over different things (usually things that upset or stress her out).
-----
She loved horror movies pre-crash (she still does a bit, but prefers not to since she's already kind of lived through one), and would watch them religiously (Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, Evil Dead, The Shining, etc).
She also watched Scream 1 and 2 once everyone got rescued, to catch up in a way, but realised that horror movies didn't feel the same as before.
-----
Definitely listens to vinyl records and cassette tapes of bands/singers she listened to pre-crash (I imagine her listening to ABBA, The Clash, Queen, Blondie, The Cure, Nirvana maybe, that sort of music), and that helped her cope after everyone was rescued and help her in general when she's under or overwhelmed.
-----
I also think she'd be a bit of a secret Swiftie (only you and maybe a couple others knowing that she is), more of a Fearless, Speak Now and Folklore Swiftie compared to her other albums, but still doesn't mind them.
-----
Plays retro games she grew up with/genuinely finds interesting (Pac-Man, Super Mario, Tetris, Sonic the Hedgehog etc) to reset her mindset when she's overwhelmed (also maybe as a little bit of a regression).
-----
General Autistic Traits/Head-Cannons:
She hates the noises of fireworks and thunder/lightning (since they remind her of the crash and almost being turned into a human marshmallow, twice), so she has to wear noise-cancelling headphones during firework displays and storms, but loves lying in bed watching the actual sparks of them.
-----
This girl is prone to bumps and scrapes, so an extensive, assorted collection of plasters/band-aids (whatever you call them) is necessary.
Animal ones, flower ones, food ones, cartoon ones, even plain white ones that she loves letting you doodle on.
You name it, she's got them.
-----
She always used to make sure, before she opens the store and after she closes for the day, that the video tapes she has in her store are stacked right alphabetical and genre.
You even made signs saying "Please put back where you found them" that you put up around the tape displays, to help out with it so Van doesn't stress or overthink about it too much.
-----
Sunday's in the store are usually very quite, so she dedicates that day for restocking whatever needs restocking (I don't really know how that stuff works, so imagine what you will), which tends to be stressful. So you always make sure you have her favourite snacks, drinks, music and movies (maybe even a cold case of beer if she needs it), are on hand at the end of the day, just in case she needs them at the end of the day to cool off.
-----
As seen in the show (which I also do), she uses film/tv show quotes during conversations, and mixes them up when she gets upset or overwhelmed.
-----
Definitely has a pack of sticky notes and several pens in her back pocket at all times as a communication system in case she goes non-verbal.
She even uses them to write small notes with love hearts on around the house, sometimes even in your bag, which she insists is necessary (for reasons she changes or adds on to each time you talk about it).
*****
This took a lot longer then I thought it would, but I hope you enjoyed reading and I'll see you in the next one.

Review 1: Blink-182 - California (Deluxe)
I have a.... complicated relationship with California by Blink-182. I got into Blink around 2015. Just after Tom left for the second time and Matt Skiba was announced to replace him. I remember Bored To Death coming out and losing my mind. I was so excited for this album, sharing the singles on Facebook as they came out and hyping the album up to be a "masterpiece", much to my mother's chagrin. She liked them, but had called me out on a post doubtful of the "masterpiece" comment. And, as time has gone on, I realized something: She was right.
Now, don't get me wrong, this is a good record. But upon my first revisit of the album post-NINE (their followup record), the cracks started to show. I'd bought the album on CD upon release and then ordered the deluxe vinyl the moment it was announced, so that is gonna be the album I cover, as I believe the bonus tracks deserve to be included. If I posted this review as soon as I'd gotten the album at the naive age of 17, I would've given this a glowing review. However, I'm 24 now. And unfortunately for this album, my opinions have started to sour towards it. Then warmed up again. But still. Hopefully that makes sense. Let's get this goin' then, shall we? Track 1 - Cynical: A great opener, I absolutely adore screaming the outro along with Matt. I still love this song, one of my favourites on the album.
Track 2 - Bored To Death: First single. I still love this song as well, still feels the same as it did 8 years ago (fuck I'm old). The chorus on this is great, honestly for most of this album, even the stinkers have great hooks.
Track 3 - She's Out Of Her Mind: Overall decent song. Hated the music video from the start. Not so much from a "this is problematic" perspective, moreso the fact that it showed something that I've realised more and more in the years since: These guys are desperately trying to remind you that they are, in fact, Blink-182. It feels very tryhard, as if they're holding a sign the entire video that says "Hey! Remember how much you liked What's My Age Again? Remember?? Yeah that was us!!". It just feels... fake, I guess. Sorry I have more to say about the things I dislike.
Track 4 - Sober: Honestly, this used to be my least favorite song on the album. As a young elitist idiot, I hated the "going pop" aspect of it, it reminded me of 5SOS, and I did NOT like them. It's grown on me though. I like it a whole lot more, mostly for the fact that it sounds different. That's rare for the album in my opinion.
Track 5 - Los Angeles: Remember how I said I didn't like Sober cause of how different it sounded compared to normal Blink? Remember how I then said that I now love the "different" sounding tracks? Yeah, this is an exception. So experimental it sounds more tryhard than natural to me. It sounds interesting but nothing to really grab me.
Track 6 - Built This Pool: The first joke track of the album, and unfortunately the only good one. The joke isn't exactly funny to me (haha get it it's funny cuz gay), but it's short, catchy, and Travis' little remark at the end of it? Makes it worth it.
Track 7 - No Future: My biggest regret in my initial assessment of this album. This song is what made me think "masterpiece". In case you can't tell, I don't think that anymore. It's a largely forgettable song to me now, the only thing I remember is the hook. And even that is just "meh" to me. It's repetitive and not in a way that works for me. It just gets annoying and falls flat.
Track 8 - Home Is Such A Lonely Place: A nice little slow ballad. It's a very sweet song, and I love playing it on guitar and singing it. Blink has always done great ballads in my opinion, and this song is further proof that even at their worst (to me), they can still hit.
Track 9 - Kings Of The Weekend: Now here's the worst part of the album for me. Not this song, it's a nice little fun song but from this point till maybe track 13, just feels too "Blink-By-The-Numbers". Like I said earlier, this album feels less like a "Hey, we're still around and even without Tom, we can still make good shit", and more like a "Hey, Tom's gone but don't worry here's more of the same". For the songs in this stretch, it just feels like each song was done better in an earlier Blink song, or even worse, just generic. Not that I expect every Blink song to reinvent the wheel, but it at least shouldn't sound like the most average song imaginable. The next few tracks will probably be much shorter as I share these same opinions.
Track 10 - Teenage Satellites: Ugh. Do not like this song. The most "Hello, fellow kids" thing they'd done (up until Darkside's video, shudder). It's just... so tryhard. I can't. Even when I loved this album, this was one of the worst songs for me.
Track 11 - Left Alone: Good chorus. That's about all I can think of.
Track 12 - Rabbit Hole: Used to love this song so much. Probably the only one in this "stinker" stretch but still kinda mid honestly.
Track 13 - San Diego: Another good chorus. The best one of this stretch, probably the most memorable thing about it. It just sounds really good. The way Matt just slides into it ("I can't sleep/Cause what if I dream of/Going back to San Diego"). Honestly this is probably my favorite chorus on the standard edition.
Track 14 - The Only Thing That Matters: A more punky sounding track. I like to imagine this originated from the same sessions with Fat Mike that birthed Punk Rock Cliche (which Blink scrapped and NOFX later recorded), as it sounds vaguely NOFX-ish. I really enjoy this song.
Track 15 - California: Another "different" track, but I loved this one from the first time I heard it. Something about it just makes me feel good. A nice little closing track (shh) that feels like a neat credits sequence for the album.
Track 16 - Brohemian Rhapsody: Yeah. Another "joke" song. Musically it sounds good, but the joke of it? I still don't get what's funny about it. I get the joke. Haha it sounds like I'm talking about sex but I actually meant coffee haha get it haha sex funny. Yeah. It's not.
Track 17 - Parking Lot: And now the album is saved! The bonus tracks arrived and honestly, if you replaced tracks 8-12 with these, I would love the album so much more. It's a classic sounding Blink track, but without sounding too tryhard. Feels like they made these after they got Matt more settled in and it helps SO much.
Track 18 - Misery: Another absolute banger! Not much to say and I wanna try to keep the rest of these short I am so sorry. I love it so much though.
Track 19 - Good Old Days: Yet another banger, yet another chorus I love to belt at the top of my lungs.
Track 20 - Don't Mean Anything: This is probably the weakest chorus of the bonus tracks but the middle part saves it for me. I love the whole "It's a long way back from the middle of the road" part just feels so satisfying and makes it work so much better.
Track 21 - Hey I'm Sorry: This was from the Japanese version of the original album but I'm so glad they included it here. I love it so much, that chorus is up there with San Diego for one of my favorites on the album.
Track 22 - Last Train Home: A neat little more emotional track. That main guitar riff in the verses is so smooth-sounding, and the second part of the hook ("The only time I feel alive is when I find something I would die for") is my favorite lyric on the album.
Track 23 - Wildfire: Probably the most forgettable track of the bonuses. Still much better than any of the "stinker stretch" tracks by a MILE though.
Track 24 - 6/8: The heaviest Blink song??? Matt's screams on this are amazing, and I love the A Day To Remember energy they channel on this but I guarantee I am the only person who thinks that.
Track 25 - Long Lost Feeling: The ballad of the deluxe tracks, I love this one so so much. Another one I love singing and playing on guitar.
Track 26 - Bottom Of The Ocean: Whoa, it's like they finished Los Angeles and went "What if it was good?". Seriously though, this song is like a hint of the direction NINE would take, and what kickstarted my reevaluation of the album as a "masterpiece", as after I grew to like this, the album suddenly just felt so... bland.
Track 27 - Can't Get You More Pregnant: Of course it had to end with another "joke" track. The joke is masturbation, in case you couldn't tell. I wanna say I have no problem with jokes like the ones they make on this album, but these aren't funny to me. There's no "joke" to it, they're just going "haha gay, haha sexual innuendo, haha jacking off". The music is still good tho.
----
Overall, this is probably one of my least favorite Blink albums. Thankfully they followed this up with NINE, one of my favorite ones. I would give this album a 6.5/10, but only because of the bonus tracks. Standard edition would be a 4.5/10 honestly. Funny, considering this was a 10/10 at one point for me. Mom, I'm sorry. You were right.
----
Next album in my vinyl collection is The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me by Brand New, so get ready for a much more positive review when that comes.

Hi! Fluff request here!
Can I request a INTJ! MC (any pronouns) from Obey Me who has a hard time being vulnerable just sitting with Lucifer by the fireplace in his room one night, just listening to his vinyls in the background and just lets their walls down? They tell him how much he means to them and how much they are hopelessly in love with him not for his status, money, or looks, but because of him.
STOP I LOVE THIS BC I MYSELF AM AN INTJ THIS IS GONNA BE SO SELF INDULGENT AHHSHAHS
INTJ!MC confessing to Lucifer
MC took a deep breath before entering Lucifer's study. It's not like it was the first time they'd gone in there, in fact they've spent many nights outside the door knocking to check in on Lucifer. Only to find him passed out on his stack of paperwork. MC has worked very hard to make sure Lucifer didn't find out they were secretly taking care of him and his work while he slept. Maybe that was why he called them to his study so late ? Only one way to find out...
MC slowly opened the door, without knocking because Lucifer said to just enter when they arrived in his text.
Lucifer stood by the fireplace. He turned when he noticed MC entered. A soft smile appeared on his face, illuminated by the fireplace.
"MC, come in," He said and gestured for MC to sit by the fireplace.
MC entered, closing the door behind them and made their way to the chair next to Lucifer. He glances at them and then walks to his record player.
"I got a new record, from the human world. I called you here because I figured you might enjoy it," He speaks to MC as he puts the record on. The most beautiful instrumental music starts playing, softly, yet intense and full of emotion at the same time. It reminded MC of their feelings toward Lucifer. Not that they were ready to admit that to him, but maybe, just maybe, they might.
Lucifer turns back around and moves to sit across from MC. The two sit in silence enjoying the music and ambiance for a moment. They speak at the same time.
"MC-"
"Lucifer I-"
Lucifer chuckles.
"You go first," He says.
MC takes a deep breath, and makes eye contact with Lucifer before speaking.
"Lucifer. I wanted to be honest with you. I've been coming to your study because I know you fall asleep and I put a blanket on you and organize your work and I'm sorry," MC rambles. While they're usually an articulate person, when it come to feelings, they're not the best.
"I know," Lucifer says softly, "I'm a light sleeper. I wake up every time you come into the study but I pretend to be asleep. I'm sorry for deceiving you," He looks away.
MC's eyes are wide.
"You knew ?" They ask. Lucifer nods in response.
"Why did you continue to let me do it ?" MC asks.
"I enjoy your presence. Not to mention it feels like you actually care about me. I know that's stupid, but I don't receive that much warmth, and you gave me some. I couldn't- can't let go," Lucifer looks at MC quickly before blushing and looking away.
Heat rises to MC's face.
They trip over their words in their head. No idea on what to say.
"I love you"
They didn't mean to blurt it out, in fact they slapped their hand over their mouth. Lucifer looked at them, eyes wide and face red.
"What ?" He asks quietly.
"I mean- I do. God, I really do. I didn't mean to say it though. I'm sorry." MC's voice quivers.
"Why ?" Lucifer asks as he regains his composure.
"Why ? You care. You don't show it but you do. You want your brothers to be safe and happy even if they drive you up a wall and family means so much to you. You value your relationships despite this front you put up. Like me. I know you look out for me too. You're not that inconspicuous. You have these interests you really love, like your records, and as much as you don't show it you would love to share them with someone. I know because I've seen it before. I cant even explain it but I feel like I know you and you know me and there's an unexplainable connection. I don't care about materialistic stuff I just care about you," MC finishes speaking, out of breath.
Lucifer looks at them in shock.
"I cant tell you how many nights I've dreamt about finally being with you," MC says and looks down at their lap.
MC heard footsteps getting closer. Their body tensed up. They continued to look at their lap.
From their point of view, they saw Lucifer kneel before them. They looked up a bit and met his gaze. They couldn't believe it, the great demon Lucifer was kneeling before them.
What was even more shocking was the tear falling down his cheek.
MC's body reacted before they could think about it logically and they cupped Lucifer's face, wiping his tears. They whispered his name as they did.
Lucifer's hands rested on MC's lap.
"I love you too,"

but its always been you|| Thomas Jefferson x Reader
word count: 1550
warnings: cusing, lack of proofreading, mentions of death
A/N: my first Thomas fic🙈 (Modern AU like most of them) Idk how collage works pls 😭
Inspiration: Youuu - COIN (its really good omg)
QUICK NOTE: the cuts are usually to switch between y/n and thomas
tell me if you wanna be in my permanent tag list :))
Tumblr media
Blessed are the forgetful: for they get the better even of their blunders.
"Jefferson,Thomas". He walked up the stage to receive his much deserved diploma. Four years of extensive studying just for this moment. He looked at the crowd and as if the world suddenly stopped. He focused on this one person. She had a camera up to her face, her hair glistening in the daylight. He looked like her as if he had seen a ghost. He snapped out of it as she lowered her camera. His girlfriend, of course. She smiled at him as the announcer calls on the next graduate. He walked down and towards her. Now that he thinks about it, he'd gaze out to her like this multiple times now, but he feels this is not because of her herself. He saw someone else in her. A high school sweetheart perhaps. He might've seen the gold flakes in her e/c colored eyes as he did with Y/n. He was sure he had long forgotten about her. She was special, sure but as high school sweethearts go, they stay in high school. He was convinced the countless exes he'd have were all to drown out her calling out for him once more. Just one more time at least. He'd like to think that moving to the other side of the world also helped with the cause. That was his number one priority; to forget about the one year they spent together.
Tumblr media
You always thought that it wasn't anyone's fault that you and Thomas broke up. It was just not in anyones best interest to keep it going after high school and if the feelings last, he'd always say that he will find you. You lost faith that he'd come back of course. Whatever goes on in high school, stays in high school. You would go on several dates with people in college but you would always find yourself comparing them to Thomas. You focused on your studies, everyone telling you that you were smart; 'If only they knew how much I know about the things that really matter'.
You look at the clock '12:34 am'. Graduation was tomorrow or later. You were trying to fall asleep, and quickly at that, but you can't refrain from overthinking. Every scenario running through your head in a fast pace. Every outcome possible, you could have saved that relationship. Were you thinking of going back to New York to find him? It was nice as it is in California. You had your essentials, a good connection to your family online, but it was never really enough. You needed him.
The day came through fast paced. You would think that one of the most important milestones in live would be savored by time, running slowly. It was the opposite, time was never forgiving of you, years came by in a glimpse. You still felt like a kid, just not now. Graduation had such a surreal feeling to it, no one was never obliged to finish school of course, but you would think that something this sentimental would finally saturate the world with colors.
At the bus ride to downtown San Fransisco, your mind drifted off with ease. The music flowing to your ears made you feel like you were in a music video, those artsy kinds who would always try to incorporate daily life then proceed with a shot of a glamorous mansion. A song comes on, one of your favorites actually, Youuu by COIN.
' She moves just like you
She tastes like you
But its always been youuu...'
They say that music with certain themes will always trigger memories, flowing back to your brain. Even the ones you could have sworn you have forgotten. Thomas springs in to mind. He was a player in high school, of course he would have found someone new by now. That year was still pretty vivid to you though. All the sneaking around, all your firsts, the mini get togethers turned dates. You remember everything.
Tumblr media
"Hey do you want to go out on Saturday?"Thomas' voice echoes through the walls of the almost room. He was staying with his girlfriend for the meantime since her parents were to insist on them 'not spending money on property' yet. Although Thomas was to never have a problem with money, his family was filthy rich at that. He was still deciding whether to stay here, with his girlfriend, in the suburbs, content with a stable income job; or to his family in New York City, a corporate job, and maybe even to you.
"What's the occasion?" Her voice sweetly said. Running her hands through his curls. "I wanna see you dance again." He said with a light chuckle. She laughed, "Come on... I don't dance THAT bad". He enjoyed moments like this. He truly did. The light touching and cuddling, just enjoying each others presence. He knew that she was human and he was truly sorry. He was sorry that she was being played like a pawn in the game of life. He was sorry that this was temporary. He was sorry that he was looking for someone. And he is sorry that that sorry that that someone wasn't her. They both noticed that the vinyl record had stopped playing. She stood up and changed the track record. Thomas sat up and looked at her. Her back was faced towards him. 'Even her silhouette reminds him of you' . The decision is clear then.
Tumblr media
You started working a minimum wage job to pay the bills. You live in an apartment, sharing a space with your roommate, Reese. She was kind enough as it is, you both treated each other like family. She got you through when you were looking for a job. Now paying her back, you got her a little cake to celebrate her birthday. Going home from the cake shop, you stopped your tracks to see a rather tall man in the street, he was talking to someone on his phone. 'It couldn't possibly be him'. You wanted to think rationally at that moment, but you were overtaken by your emotions. You lightly tapped his shoulder. He turned around to reveal a completely different person. You quickly apologized to the person. You weren't lying to yourself at this point, you were pretty devastated that it wasn't him.
Unlocking your apartment door, you heard mild sobs in the far left to you. That was your roommate's room. You closed the door and headed straight to her door. Knocking three times, you opened the door to a disheveled Reese, frantically grabbing tissues.
"What happened?" You were still going to approach her, mildly forcing her into toxic positivity. You were ready to listen to her. "I'm moving out." In your role as her roommate, this was the only thing that should concern you, but you were close and so you thought that something had happened at home. "My dad died. I'll move home and live there from now on." You understand completely that that was what she needed to do. You offer to help her on countless things of course. That night was one of the gloomiest in the apartment. You slowly watched her pack away most of her stuff, sulking away most days, above all that, conversation halted and was now a thing of the past.
Tumblr media
"Have you made your decision yet?" Trying to make conversation at dinner, Thomas' girlfriend asked him to whether they would actually last or not. Long distance never really works for anyone, might as well rip the band-aid off now. Thomas looked like he was burried in a million thoughts, he looked at her apathetically, without an answer. They ate away the evening, they were the opposite of this lively restaurant. She looked at him, wanting to ask him more; what's are you thinking is at risk? what's weighing your shoulders down? is there 'a someone'?
Just as Thomas was to suggest leaving the restaurant and just saying sorry for the melancholy he brought to the evening, she stood up and suggested a dance. 'That's what they came for anyway.' He gladly accepted and took the lead, whisking her away to the dance floor. There were about 3 other couples around them, lost in their own world. He wants to think rationally, he doesn't want to loose his mind and let his emotions seep through his walls. They were slow dancing now. 'She really feels like y/n'.
"Who's y/n and why do I feel like her?"
Thomas froze. He accidentally said it out loud. There's no stoping it now, just tell her the truth; rip the band aid off.
"She's a girl I used to date in high sc-"
"Every relationship in high school stays in high school Thomas. grow up"
Thomas didn't know what to say.He didn't know why that sentiment ticked him off that way. He didn't know why his body was suddenly in flames. He didn't know what to say so all he did was run; run far away. She didn't understand. If you would've explained where you came from she would. No, she wouldn't.
Just before they reach the car she caught up to him. He turned around looking so distraught.
"Ive made up my mind."

Album of the week #2
Comedown Machine
(2013)
By The Strokes
Overall rating: 8.5/10
TL;DR: This album is like your favorite pair of jeans. It looks like all of the other ones you own but something about it feels like home.
Tumblr media
Hey everyone! Sorry this is a few days late but I actually got a concussion the day I was going to write this so I would argue that I have a fair enough excuse. Don't worry I am staying away from screens and I'm really only typing this in 5 minute intervals, meaning I am trying to type as fast as humanly possible. Future me is going to have a field day proofreading.
Anyways, this week's album is Comedown Machine by the Strokes, a band that I definitely should listen to more but haven't fully gotten around to it. I know more of their songs than the average person and have a few of their albums on my phone, but I haven't really fully gone in depth with them like some other bands. I actually already had this album on my phone, which worked out great because I ran out of data this week and could only play downloaded music in my car.
But enough about the interesting week I had, here is my review on The Strokes great 2013 album, Comedown Machine. (Also totally unrelated but I absolutely love the cover? It is just simple enough to not be boring. Reminds me of old vinyl covers and the red makes it really easy to pick out on my phone.)
General Thoughts:
The best way I can describe this album is that it is a very solid vibe the whole way through. It kind of falls into the trap of every song sounding the same, but at least its a good same. When prompted with a title of a song on here I 100% could not tell you what the melody is (minus “Call it Fate Call it Karma”) but there was not a single song on here I didn't like.
The songs in this album have a very detached old energy, that kind of feels like a hug. I kept finding myself coming back to this album as a kind of home, because I know that it would be comforting. A bad day at work? Just listen to this and I'm instantly calmed down. While I usually like variety, what is repeated in this album is so good I can't be mad at it.
Song Breakdown:
I. Tap Out
This song starts out exactly like the intro to my favorite Wii game, Guitar Hero III, so I already liked it without actually hearing what the rest of it sounded like. This song sounds so 2010s indie that I felt like I was living in a John Green book and honestly? I'm not mad at it. Its just mellow enough for my concussed head to vibe along with it but it still has enough of a beat that you can dance to it. The ideal dance would be that one kid vibing in the club with sunglasses. You know the one? I hope you know the one or I sound crazy.
2. All the Time
Okay so this one definitely belongs in a Guitar Hero game. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been in one yet. Like the last one it makes me feel like I'm in a teen coming of age movie and this is playing in my car as I go on a road trip to “find myself”. Passes the vibe check and is a very solid song.
3. One Way Trigger
This is one of the most, if not the most memorable song in the album, and the one of the only ones that gets stuck in my head. That little riff thingy is super super catchy and repeated enough that you would think it would become annoying, but there is just enough going on that it balances off. I like this one so much that when I was listening to it right before writing this I honestly forgot I was doing a review and was just grooving along. Very very good song.
4. Welcome to Japan
My second favorite on the album babey (you'll see which one is my favorite because it will have a whole love letter written to it). This is definitely a song I want to sit down and learn all the parts on every instrument, tinkering with them until I can get them to sound like the actual song but funkier. The vocals balance goofy and good with thought-provoking lines “what kind of asshole drives a lotus.” The vocals also use a wide range and aren’t just falsetto, thank GOD.
5. 80s Comedown Machine
This song is familiar to the point it is killing me. The main riff is so so so close to something I know but I can’t put my finger on what it is. At first I thought it sounded like the theme song from an old DS game I had as a kid, but after looking up the theme it's not that. It is so familiar sounding the song hurts to listen to because I just feel like I’m missing something. My only guess as to why it sounds so familiar is it sounds like the music used during the climax of The Royal Tenenbaums, it sounds so close that I had to look up the actual soundtrack just to check that the song wasn’t actually there. (The song is actually “Needle in the Hay” by Elliot Smith and while they don’t sound alike they have basically the same vibe to me. Wes Anderson if you need help with soundtracks call me because this song would fit any of your movies.)
6. 50/50
Meh. The songs do all sound the same in this album and this one doesn’t have something about it that makes it stand out in a positive way. The vocals are new I guess, but they just remind me of something out of Scott Pilgrim vs The World so that kind of changes it. Good song that isn’t bad, it’s just not overwhelmingly good.
7. Slow Animals
I really like this one :). Honestly I don’t know what else to say about this one because everything has kind of already been said. All the songs had the same energy so I like them about the same. This one maybe a tad more than the others though. Especially the Waluigi Pinball part.
8. Partners in Crime
This is the only super upbeat song in the entire album and both my regular and concussed brain find it too jarring. Like I was lulled into this false sense of security by calm distortion and layers of vocal harmonies and now that really violent opening riff in this song. I know I’m extra sensitive right now but it’s a no from me.
9. Chances
The teen coming of age movie that is this album is now coming to an end, and this is the song that plays on the car ride home after the climax. It’s dark outside and the bushes and trees are whizzing past, getting more and more familiar as they approach their small hometown. While not my favorite, this song is amazing and sounds especially nice to my concussed brain after the last song.
10. Happy Ending
And now the coming of age movie is over! The main character learned a lesson just before being forced to go off to college in a new town and make all new friends. This song doesn’t have anything that is super different from the others, so all I can say about it is that it was really solid and nice.
11. Call it Fate, Call it Karma
Here is another entry on the “do you ever just want to become a song” list. I want this song to be played around me for the rest of my life. I want to be surrounded in it and put into a stasis pod. Love does not cover what I feel for this song the same way Amazing does not cover how god this song is. The whole album kind of feels like a comforting hug, but this feels like home. It feels like you will be okay and that the world is calm again. My years of music education can’t even break down how it does this, it just does. 50/10, this is the song that made me buy the album. Every part of it is good. Every part.
Final Verdict:
Well I already had this album on my phone, but if I didn’t I would 100% buy it. While individually the songs don’t stand out too much, the album as a whole is something that is worth listening to time and time again. I haven’t listened to many Strokes’ albums the full way through, but as of right now this one is my favorite. A masterpiece of early 2010s alternative rock in my nonexpert opinion.

Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Kaleb Hawkins x Jed (Legacies)
Requested by anonymous, encouraged by @lemon-patches and @antopazas
It's been hours. Kaleb lost track a little while ago, somewhere around eleven, he thinks. When he happens to glance at the clock now, because this is basically Hogwarts where he's not even allowed a phone, it tells him it's four-thirty in the morning.
He should be surprised; he's not even tired, and honestly, he didn't think it was possible to talk for so long without running out of things to say. Somehow, he and Jed have managed perfectly fine.
It started off from after Lizzie's fake funeral, both needing to vent about Alyssa. Then at some point, after they had moved up into Kaleb's room, the conversation just shifted. It went from their dumb rivalry, to some lightehearted joking about werewolves vs vampires, to Jed telling him about the person he killed and Kaleb telling him how he turned. And now they're just here, sharing the most random, tiny details, anything that comes to mind.
He now knows that Jed doesn't like being Alpha. He sussed that his favourite colour is some very light shade of yellow from the amount of things he's mentioned that have been that colour in his life, including the times Penelope used to paint his nails. He was actually super into Harry Potter as a kid, and they both appreciate old music, as well as the beauty of vinyls.
Jed also knows way more about him now than anyone else in the school, which wouldn't be hard, but still. It's easier to talk to him when they're not at each other's throats over some crush on the same girl. Except, that's not really all it was.
He gazes at Jed with a faint smile. Talking has certainly made things a lot clearer, at least for him.
"Do you think we're idiots?" Jed asks, switching from his topic of constellations as he rolls his head to the side to meet his eyes. "Truthfully. The way we were acting?"
Kaleb shrugs, but he huffs out a quiet chuckle. "Truthfully? For sure. We... certainly did and said some things."
Jed sighs, then shakes his head, staring back at the blue wall of books and records across from them. A gentle crease forms between his eyebrows, but he wears a ghost of a nervous smile.
"It's so weird," he tells him, and suddenly he seems tense for the first time in the whole night. "I've never done anything like that before. Fought because of a crush. It felt like there was something to prove, you know?"
Kaleb hums in agreement. Even with the pointed, emphasized way that Jed said it, he still asks, "To Alyssa?"
A beat passes. He studies Jed's expression, the flutter of nerves, then watches him shake his head. His voice softens.
"No, that's the funny part," he says, but his smile is even more nervous than the glint in his eyes as he looks at him again. "I don't think I really cared since she never really paid much attention to me anyway. It's like I was trying to prove something to you, which... must have some really weird, messed up logic behind it, because even I don't really get it. I just know I felt like I needed you to see me in some way. Probably makes no sense, right?"
There it is. Kaleb smiles. He can feel the worry coming off of Jed, the need to cover for himself in case, after everything, he says something that just manages to step over a line.
"Nah, I get it," Kaleb says quietly, to his surprise. "I was doing the same. The whole thing turned less into trying to impress Alyssa and more into... well, getting your attention. Good or bad."
Jed just stares at him, eyes wide, and evidently thrown by the confident admission. He sucks in a breath, and Kaleb sees the moment it hits him, spreading through his eyes. The wave of realization comes back around to crash into his own chest one more time as well.
"What does..." Jed hesitates, doubt and wariness sticking through in his voice, "...does that mean...?"
Kaleb's pretty sure he knows the question he's asking. He's been silently asking it himself for two hours, and only come to an answer within the last thirty minutes. He couldn't care less about some dumb species rivalry, and his feelings for Alyssa o ly seemed to present themselves when shr wasn't alone. Because Jed was there with her.
"Uh, well..." Kaleb might be at a loss for the right words for the first time.
It means he's spent a good hour give or take stealing glances at Jed's hand, so close to his own, wondering how different it would feel to hold opposed to it shoving him in a fight. Glancing at his mouth when he smiles, the sight of it digging into his heart like some rabbit burrowing itself a home. Hearing his laugh is another feeling entirely. Just wondering about the idea of him.
Jed's still watching him, waiting with his lips parted the slightest bit though scarcely breathing. As soon as the idea forms in Kaleb's mind, he sees it in Jed's expression as well, the simultaneous decision.
They both lean, slowly, a little uncertain. When their lips meet between, Kaleb knows he was right. The hesitation falls away enough for them to kiss properly, still moving slowly, but with more certainty.
Time already feels like it stopped existing a few conversation topics ago. Kaleb honestly can't say how many seconds tick away before he feels them both pulling back.
Jed's eyes open after Kaleb's. He sees the look in them right away. The glimmer of surprise, but knowing. Understanding, and relieved about this newfound revelation.
It wasn't about proving who was better for Alyssa, or who was the superior species. It was just a way of trying to work out what they were feeling, the emotions getting tangled up and confused with something else.
"Yeah," Jed says softly, almost on an exhale. His gaze is fixed on Kaleb's. "That's... that's what I was thinking. And makes a lot of sense, actually."
Kaleb snorts, and he can't help but huff out a laugh a second later, Jed joining him after a beat.
"If only we'd talked it out like this before the whole sing-off thing," Kaleb jokes.
Jed groans at that. "Oh, no, don't remind me. It's still too fresh. I'm surprised Lizzie didn't kill us."
"There's still a good chance she will," Kaleb says, half-serious.
"Well, I guess our fates are sealed then," Jed plays along, the corners of his mouth turned up in a bright smile, eyes dancing.
Kaleb just smiles back at him. The tiredness may be catching up now. It shows in Jed's gaze as well. Even so, neither of them suggest sleep. They keep talking. The sky slowly lightens outside. All Kaleb is really sure of is that, at some point, he goes for it and slips his hand into Jed's while he's talking. It makes him pause, glancing down, but he recovers quick and just continues on, locking his fingers with Kaleb's.

I feel like showing off my vinyl collection, feel free to show me yours!
I'm an avid 70s/80s/90s collector, and deeply wish I could've been alive for all of that, most of my vinyls are 70s/80s, some older, some newer. Some are 100% vintage, others are newly made/released. My dad (who brought me up on literally everything 70s and 80s) got me a record player for Christmas and helped me start my collection, since then it's grown rapidly.
First I must show off my RDR2 vinyls, with Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads", his songs are perfect to listen to while playing RDR2, "Big Iron" being one of my favorites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dad got me all 3 of my Queen albums for Christmas, as he knows that Queen is perhaps my favorite band of all time, I've been trying to find vintage vinyls of their albums rather than the newly remade ones, haven't had much luck yet but we will get there. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did I mention that my dad and I are diehard Gordon Lightfoot fans? "Summertime Dream" and "Sundown" are perhaps my favorite albums. Lightfoot's song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" holds a special place in my heart. While the song is based off of a true story, about the tragic sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, this song has a deeper connection with me. My dad, my Uncle Rob, and my Uncle Rodney, they loved this song so much, they would sit and listen to it on repeat for hours and hours mesmerized by the story that it told, along with Lightfoot's iconic voice, and the instruments itself. This was their group song essentially. Unfortunately, on July 25, 2019 (a year ago this coming Saturday), my Uncle Rodney lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), he was only 49 years old, a year younger than my dad. It was something we would never expect happen to any of us, let alone him. Uncle Rodney went out of his way for everyone, he'd help everyone whenever he could and would never ask for or expect anything in return. He put his family first, he loved and cared for his kids the best he could, he worked his ass off hand crafting furniture out of cedar wood, and adding onto his home and designing it just the way a true country boy could ever want it, he was dedicated to his job, his family, and his friends. Hard to believe it will be a whole year this weekend, not a day goes by where I don't think about him, he was like a second dad to me, and I greatly wished that I'd had more time with him, especially hugs, he gave the best hugs.
However he'd want me to carry on and continue to be happy, and it was hard the first few months after he passed, I went into a depression spell, and starting coming out of it in February, and then I met the man who is now my boyfriend. I don't know if it was just coincidence, or if Uncle Rodney had a hand in all of it, but I shit you not, my boyfriend reminds me so much of him, including my dad. My family absolutely loves him and has taken him in already, and I've never been this happy. But alas, this isn't supposed to be my life's story, but some of these records mean so much to me, and Lightfoot's records will forever hold a special place in my heart, for the very sole reason you just read about.
Tumblr media
Moving on! These are some great records I found on a clearance rack at a record store, all under $5 a piece! My grandpa is a huge John Denver fan, so he very much appreciates it when he stops by our house and hears me blasting that album from my room haha. My boyfriend loves The Oak Ridge Boys, and let me tell you, he can sing the oom poppa mow mows in the song "Elvira" perfectly, and I melt everytime haha. Rosanne Cash, her music gets played constantly whenever we are having a party at my Uncle Rob's house, so when I hear her voice, it makes me want to go down there and have a great time. The Outlaws, I only recently discovered them but I really enjoy this album in particular, "You Are the Show" is perhaps my favorite song on the album, I sing this one a lot no matter how terrible I may be at it, I can't help it lol.
Ah yes, more classics. My dad really enjoys when I decide to blast my CCR album (a birthday present from my boyfriend). "Fortunate Son" is probably my dad's favorite CCR song, and it is definitely his theme song. Boston and Molly Hatchet are two of my other favorites for sure, including Chicago, it has been awhile since I listened to them, but they sure are fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh these three here I love talking about. I mean, who doesn't love Footloose and Dirty Dancing? The Footloose record is vintage, the Dirty Dancing one is a newly released version, but I ended up buying it anyways as the record itself is that purple color of awesomeness. The Quiet Riot one I found at an antique store, my favorite album of theirs, and because it's a picture vinyl, I had to have it. It looks kickass watching it on the record player.
Tumblr media
Any Fleetwood Mac fans? My witchy sisters, this is our music. I can actually sing Stevie Nicks pretty decently, my boyfriend absolutely loves it when I do. "Tango in the Night" is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, I listen to this record religiously. Once I listened to it on repeat for about 3 days straight, and my dad eventually had to tell me to switch to a different record because he was ready to hear some other great music 😂 The song "Twisted" which Stevie sang with Lindsey Buckingham, was part of the 1996 movie "Twister" with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. My favorite movie, and my favorite Stevie Nicks song, might I also mention that I'm a weather nut and also studying for a degree in meteorology? Yeah, I also chase tornadoes, hence why "Twister" is my favorite movie.
Tumblr media
And last but not least, these two little guys. Tiësto is perhaps my favorite DJ of all time, his classic hits and even the new ones, always give me such a vibe that is so enjoyable. My favorite mix of his? "Silence" by Delerium with Sarah Maclachlan, this was one of Tiësto's "In Search of Sunrise" mixes, and I still get absolute chills hearing it.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, I forgot to add, a bunch of the vintage vinyls I bought, I got at Guestroom Records in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma while I was there back in May. They have a giant clearance section with records under $5, and of course they have all the newly released music, and even full collection sets. My favorite part? They also have a beautiful kitty cat that lives at the store and he/she is such a lovely kitty. So if you're in OKC and wanna buy some vinyls? This is your place.
So that's all of my vinyls I have so far! I hope you enjoyed seeing my collection, and reading about why they mean so much to me, I hope I didn't bore you too much with them haha. Again, feel free to show me some of yours! Tell me why they mean so much to you! :)
