Tips for not getting stressed out from writing, coming to you live from someone who has done this for 18 years and got a degree in it:

- remember that you write for fun. This is the big one. You write because on some level you enjoy it. Sometimes you gotta lasso that abd reel it into your heart and hold it there so it stays.

- keep compliments close at hand. And i do mean this literally. I print out AO3 comments and friends compliments and keep them in a jar to pull them out at random when I need a little brain boost. I keep a folder of screenshots of nice things people have said on my pc.

- accept that not every day is going to work out. Even the best authors have days where the words wont work, days where they wont flow at all. Its okay to take a step back and not worry about it. Refer to my first tip: youre doing this for fun, you dont have to force yourself

- get silly with it. If youre really having a day where you want to write and its not working and its frustrating you but you cant put it down it is TIME for the sillies. Set a tiner. 5, 10 minutes. Write whatever comes to your brain. Fully turn your editor off. I get sentences like "And the doh turned blue and whacked rhe tennis ball with its tail into the bridge". Utter nonsense. It helps to get the wiggles out

- handwriting can also be helpful. I keep several journals, and glitter pens, and fun markers - sometimes doing the task physically instead of digitally helps to get the wriggles out.

- sometimes you have to accept an idea is not working. It takes experience to figure out when this is, but youll get there. Come at ideas from different angles, back out entirely and rewrite older scenes to make new scenes work.

it's true that the positive comments are always a great motivation. maybe i need to start a collection for myself. indulge a little. (shut up the eternally dissatisfied part of my brain-)

i'm honestly struggling to find a balance between knowing i write for fun, and the pressure of it. (they're happening simultaneously, sometimes seemingly too closely intertwined.) but maybe one has more weight than the other, and i have to realise that only one of those should really hold any priority.

i'm very tired now, but i'll be rereading all these again later and letting them settle in gently. thank youu

honestly like, the moment i saw it i was stunned. it honestly felt so much more like robin than the og design did. and a lot of post ts redesigns of robin use some of the other hairstyles oda was floating around, but so few involve her OG bangs and i honestly miss those more than the cowboy hat!!!

plus <3 i am a p big fan of OG jurassic park, especially ellie & alan. their outfits feel so real to their profession, which is kinda the opposite of a lot of scientists in hollywood movies. so the combination of design elements just... yeah. absolutely beautiful.

kiss prompt #20: on a scar.

this is also scarian. i'm thinking hhau :3c and grian's newly acquired scars (which i guess doubles as #21, on a place of insecurity?)

Grian knows it’s silly to be so insecure over something ultimately so inconsequential, but it’s an amalgamation of several things, really, only made worse by the emergence of these new scars across his face. 

And it’s also horribly ironic, given that he’s neglected his wings for months on end, letting them gather dust and debris, secretly hoping that perhaps it’ll be enough to make him less desirable to the humans who seek out his feathers. It’s ironic that now he’d let something like facial scars bring him down, something that blatantly displays the damage that has been set on him. 

No one would want damaged goods, after all, right?

He ought to be happy about that, right?

Maybe he would feel that way if he had any say in their development, if it had been self-imposed like the time he’d desperately torn out his feathers, trying to hide the vivid purple that stained his body, but— 

It’s Scar’s steady hand that snaps him out of that sea of thoughts before it can spiral, his calloused fingers gently tracing over Grian’s cheek, giving the scar tissue the same tender treatment, almost like nothing at all was different. 

It’s a silly thing to be insecure about. To be insecure about it would be hypocritical. He’s never had a problem with the scattering of scars across his partner’s body, after all— why would he? It’s one of his favorite activities to trace over them, to map them out over his skin… much like Scar is now. 

“Scar,” Grian starts, but he stops at that, unsure of how to proceed. His voice is strained and hoarse. He feels like he can’t actually breach this topic, not without inadvertently insulting Scar with anything he could possibly say. 

It’s shallow, it’s stupid, it’s—

It’s something permanently strewn across his face reminding him of the time he thought he was abandoned. When he was alone and scared, left with only the severe chill of winter and the taste of blood on his tongue. 

Grian doesn’t want to be reminded of that.

He doesn’t want Scar to look at him and see someone different, someone irreparably damaged after just one week spent apart. What if that makes him less desirable to Scar now as well? 

(He knows he’s being ridiculous. He knows, he knows, but he can’t help it. It hurts. It hurts so so much.)

“Grian,” Scar replies after a moment, undoubtedly recognizing the moment Grian gets pulled back under by the torrent of his endless anxieties. He presses closer, offering himself as the tether keeping Grian afloat, foreheads touching so all Grian can see is the boundless affection present in his bright, green eyes.

It almost burns to look at.

Grian can’t look away.

Wordless tears form at the edges of Grian’s vision, but then Scar is speaking again, uttering something so bizarre that Grian is at a complete loss on how to respond, leaving his tears frozen in place as his eyes widen with confusion.

“Thank you,” Scar says, once again brushing his thumb over the mark next to Grian’s eye. His touch is gentle as always, which sets something in Grian toppling, and the tears fall, one by one. Some pool at the tips of Scar’s fingers, slowly streaking down his skin.

Scar is undeterred by it, smiling softly as he leans in and kisses the marred and tear-streaked skin. Grian can’t handle it. 

“Scar, what—“ he manages to choke out before losing his voice to a weak sob, his lips quivering as Scar leans down to press a kiss to the scratch on his chin as well. “Scar.”

Scar hears the unspoken question, and he hums softly against the fragile skin. He answers, but it leaves Grian with even more questions, unable to understand. “You survived.”

Grian opens his mouth, but nothing aside from a ragged breath escapes, because how is he supposed to respond to that? 

He cannot even begin to comprehend why Scar felt compelled to thank him of all things while tracing over his scars like they were something precious— something to be grateful for? celebrated? Grian doesn’t know.

But when he looks at Scar, he sees nothing but sincerity. An honest adoration. Genuine relief that he can look upon Grian’s face at all. That they didn’t lose each other.

And although he may not comprehend, Grian finds that he wants to. He wants to see what Scar sees, because somehow, despite everything, Scar still sees something beautiful when he looks his way. 

Grian’s heart swells and with another broken sob, he falls forward into Scar’s welcoming arms.

"If you think X, you don't understand Umineko."

I see this a lot, used in various ways, ranging from being applied to people who express horrific, bigoted opinions to people who have less-popular interpretations of certain characters or plot points. I've also seen it used on people who dislike certain characters heavily (for example, people who call George a "child predator").

However, at what point does someone's opinion fall outside of understanding Umineko, and fall into a misinterpretation of the work? What even qualifies as a misinterpretation - when someone goes against the author's intentions? When someone goes against the general beliefs of the fandom? Then, when people interpret George according to his on-paper age gap with Shannon, rather than the likely-intended, far less horrifying gap, do they not understand Umineko? When people interpreted Sayo as trans, against the backlash and transphobia the fandom was going through after EP7/EP8 released, did they not understand Umineko?

Someone's understanding of a text is not an objective thing that can be measured, but a subjective one. Everyone's understanding of Umineko is different. Ryukishi himself even says "In other words, you can enjoy it even if you don't answer correctly, and I want you to enjoy it." He gives this sort of sentiment multiple times: even if someone hasn't come to the "true answer", if they thought it over and understood it in their own way, that's also fine.

That's why, rather than "you don't understand Umineko" because of a disagreement with someone's opinion, I'd rather approach it differently, and engage with their perspective. If there's something flawed or bigoted in it, I'd rather point that out, rather than focusing on a nebulous concept like "you didn't really understand the text". It's tempting to do so, but there are better and more constructive ways to engage in discussion.

Nezuko!Reader and Spidercat sitting infront of Nezuko!Reader’s Uncle Aaron’s tomb. And let out a loud crying sound and starts getting out of control and starts throwing rocks and growling at people. Terrified, angered and grieving Nezuko!reader :(

Nezuko!Reader only goes at nighttime, once they get to uncle Aaron’s tomb they sob. They sob to the point they start hyperventilating and stop breathing every so often(this has happened to me), they pass out on Uncle Aaron’s tomb with Spider-cat beside them as Spider-cat tries to protect them. The night guard is used to seeing them and places a blanket over them. Even while sleeping Nezuko!Reader is shaking and letting silent sobs escape but their muffled by the muzzle. When they wake up they feel weak, their eyes are red and it’s a bit difficult for them to walk.

Nezuko!Reader does this every Friday, every times it’s Uncle Aaron’s birthday, every time it’s the day Uncle Aaron died. They’ll never stop mourning their uncle, they miss their uncle to the point they somehow bought their uncles apartment…they haven’t change anything and sometimes sleeps there and wears his jacket but end up crying. They want their uncle so bad, they want him to tell them it’s just a cruel prank and they can go to the arcade like he promised them. They want him back so desperately

(I cried while making this, man I’m making sure this is ANGST! I sorta projected some of my feelings onto Nezuko!Reader because it makes ir more angsty)

4. what sections of a bookstore do you browse?

ooh this is a tough one; i usually start with new releases and then go to sci-fi/fantasy, horror, YA, and general fiction, and graphic novels if the store has them! i’m also a sucker for the journals section… do i need more? no, but i’ll probably buy one anyway.

9. when do you tend to read the most?

i usually try to read before bed as a way to unwind, but i’ve been trying to wake up a little early to read before i have to leave for work, and it’s been nice! but the trouble is actually putting the book down to leave lol. also if work is slow, i’ll sneak some reading on my kindle app (i read the whole of Spare by Prince Harry during a super slow week at work oops)

oh BOY was i delighted that you asked this one, i have so many options but also i’ve been obsessed with this book since i read it two summers ago.

the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay by michael chabon

summary: in 1939, josef kavalier escapes from prague and the incipient nazi invasion with the help of his mentor and a bit of magic. He arrives in new york at the home of his cousin, sammy klayman, and they become fast friends. sammy and josef, in a burst of inspiration, create the escapist, who can break free of any chains and will fight to save the oppressed people of the world. the escapist is a hit, and josef and sammy—now going by joe kavalier and sam clay—become successful comic artists. then, the u.s. enters the war and everything changes for sam and joe overnight. with their partnership and work torn asunder and their country at war, will kavalier and clay ever be able to recapture the magic of the escapist, or has america changed too much after the war to have faith in truth, righteousness, and maybe even a bit of magic?

this is tied for my favorite book of all time; it’s an epic story of love and loss and friendship, and it changed me to my core. if i believed in choosing just one “great american novel,” this one would be it; it’s been two years and i still think about it almost every day. it will make you cry, but it will change your life. (make sure you check for content warnings—or shoot me a message if you have specific questions—if you want to read this one; there’s a LOT going on).

Oh my god Zen, that Angel Dust wav is a masterpiece. I was nearly sob-laughing the entire time. Angel might be the first fandom character where it actually makes sense in canon for them to encounter the kink, and the way it plays out is so realistic. Something about the complete lack of snzfucker fanfic tone just makes it sooo funny.
