okay so I was watching thanksgiving in season 4 and I got to the scene where all the graduated students were having dinner and I remembered a post that @angelhummel responded to, that was basically analysing how sad santana was after everyone only acknowledged that Kurt and Rachel weren't there and they didn't mention Brittany

but to my shock, santana was the one who fucking asked where Rachel and kurt were, like she was the person to bring up their absence

I thought that logically someone else brought up kurt and Rachel and they were analysing Santana's reaction to brittany not being mentioned, but like.. were they implying that santana intentionally didn't bring up Brittany just to be sad about it?

-I really, really do not like Brittney. She's a nothing character who only successfully provided comic relief and even that got boring after a while. She dragged down every character she dated, Santana included. Like Santana is SUCH an interesting, compelling character otherwise, but anytime she was paired against Brittney it was like everything that made Santana interesting was sanded down. I also don't think they're a healthy relationship either, but that's a whole other can of worms.

-Ugh. Blaine is such a whiny bitch. I think he only really became interested in Kurt when he realized Kurt fawned over him and Blaine really, really liked that attention. And then all their problems started when Kurt started to shine on his own, in New York and what not, and Blaine cheated and acted like it was Kurt's fault he cheated and Blaine would like...sort of flirt with Sebastian?? And was crushing hard on Sam but god forbid Kurt had another gay male friend. I just...yeah. No thanks.

-I wanted to like them more than I did. I just...like they get together in secret at the end of season 2 and then Sam's just gone the first half of season 3 and then it's like "oh they had this amazing romantic fling over the summer" but it's like okay where???? All the initial development happened completely offscreen. I remember there's this scene late in s3 where Klaine goes to couples counseling with Emma and she mentions how she helped Samcedes and Blaine goes "they broke up" and I was like broke up??? When did they get back together?? Like the show just completely glossed over that. I thought the way Sam ignored her wishes and kept chasing her in season 3 was kinda weird and then in season 5 he still hasn't regained all the braincells he lost by dating Brittney and it feels more like Mercedes is parenting him rather than that they're equals. I don't know...I think they could've been good, I just don't think the execution was really there.

Wait I wanna add a little more and say that samcedes don’t make sense to me as endgame the same way Finchel doesn’t make sense to me as endgame. With both couples, Rachel and Mercedes are super ambitious and have these big dreams and want these big lives which don’t gel at all with the much quieter lives Finn and Sam want for themselves.

it seems like the people who push brittany being autistic the most inadvertently seem quite ableist themselves, like they expect this 17/18 year old girl to be treated like a 5 year old child by everyone and they’ll demonise anyone who doesn’t coddle her like a child. Kurt explained to her why he didn’t want the unicorn posters and only got mad when she chose to ignore him but kurt’s still somehow the bad guy for not being nice to her after she decided to completely disregard his feelings in the situation.

The almost unaninmous hate against some characters is pretty off-putting to newcomers like me, like Schuster doesn't just have dubiously ethical behavior, no, he's the worst etc and I wonder if it's a product of the show being finished for about 7 years and thus fan opinions having become echo chambers, compounded with the fact that Glee recently saw a revival in fan interest (but as "this show is cringe and couldn't be made today") and thus, a few influential voices have more or less dictated which opinions were "the right ones to have" (not intentionally I presume). I don't know if it even qualifies as an opinion? But I'd be interested to see what you have in mind on that subject. TL;DR Glee's fandom seems very one-minded from where I stand.

More show-centered opinions: Kitty's personality change after season 4 was a good thing for the show. Hunter didn't have nearly enough screentime to be compelling in the way Sebastian could be. Okay, this is the last one (for now?): while I understand why Mike rejected Tina's proposal in season 6... I don't think that was a good plot element. The double marriage is already whimsical and by season 6, realism has long disappeared from the show. I'm sure people liked Tina and Mike together (I personally largely prefer them to Artina), so why not (from a Doylist standpoint) just make them get together soon? I think the "lesson" (Tina's too young to settle for Mike, with whom she doesn't have a strong enough relationship to marry right now) fails to work when Klaine and Brittana are just as young but still marry. Both couples do have a stronger relationship than Tike but that's partly because Tike rarely had screentime.

I don't know, it just feels hypocritical of the show to be against Finchel marrying because they're young, but then going through it for Brittana and Klaine, but still not going through it for Tike.

Yeah, I mean, I’m all for having different opinions, but sometimes it feels like certain opinions aren’t actually believed and just ‘the right opinion’ to have.

Like, with Mr Schue, look, I’ve joked about him being the worst, but obviously he’s not actually Satan himself or anything of the sort. And even if he was? He is a fictional character. Like him as much as you want. Same with Rachel, Finn, Ryder, Puck, Kitty, etc, or basically any character widely disliked. The hate for characters is kinda off-putting and makes it feel like less people are genuinely believing it and more like they are just ‘following the leader’ (Which am I guilty of helping? Probably)

I can’t lie. I honestly don’t care enough about the Warblers to even remember who Hunter is half the time 💀. But, yeah, they didn’t give him enough screen time, so obviously he couldn’t be as compelling as Sebastian in the first place. Though, I disagree because I just don’t see Hunter being a compelling villain at all. Like, just use Sebastian? Ik he had a ‘redemption arc’ but IMO they should’ve kept him as a villain.

Yeah, I’m a big Tartie fan so I’m glad that they were endgame instead of Tike (which I’m mainly neutral on). But as a plot? There’s really no reason why Mike shouldn’t have said yes, because the lesson is essentially Mike rejects Tina’s proposal because they’re too young to get married…while they’re at a double wedding…with all couples the same age as them 💀💀. There are plenty of extremely well written WLW ships in media nowadays, it irks me when people say there isn’t. They’re just not as known because people spend their time hyping up the same YT mlm ships but don’t give that energy to sapphic ships, whether it be queer women straight women etc. People pretend to care about wlw rep but when a wlw ship that is well written and beautifully developed is shown, it’s passed off in favorite of watching two old gay pirates.

anon, you're not wrong that there are a lot of well written ships...but in my OG post that this is responding to, I did specify that I was looking for wlw rep that involved a seasons-long love story that ended with marriage and kids. I feel like that, specifically, is much rarer and in my case I have never had a ship I’ve loved that ended like that - emison and sanvers in particular failed me and none of my other canon wlw ships have gotten stories longer than one or two seasons and actually ended up together. so of course with my luck, the one show I find where the wlw couple genuinely ends up together rand happy is the one and only show where I dislike the wlw couple 😩

but anyway…if you have any recommendations for longer shows where the wlw couple gets married, please send them in!! or any wlw show recs in general (apart from the 100 and grey’s anatomy which I will never touch).

Brittana: Yes I love them unconditionally and no I will not apologize for it. Pure love in its truest form (no I won't be taking criticism stay mad💁🏾‍♀️)

Sue/Sue: The best ship, no questions asked. Also means Sue won't subject a romantic partner to her toxicity which is a surprising amount of (probably unintentional) responsibility from her

Samcedes: They're cute. I know they're not "officially" endgame but it's implied they get back together eventually right? I really liked their healthy communication in season 6 even if they did break up afterwards

St. Berry: Soulmates frfr. Jesse's a prick, but outside of season 1 treats her so well and always pushes her to be her best. I think Rachel really taught him how to love. Also just so much chemistry

Wemma: Only reason it's not ranked higher is because Will doesn't always do right by her (like when he let her ableist parents make him doubt his relationship with her😐). They're a pretty solid couple overall though

Finchel: They have their cute moments, but it's hard to get into them when they have so many issues, a lot of which were never addressed. Finn only pursued her when he couldn't have her *cough* when she was with Jesse *cough* and otherwise complained about her constantly. Rachel was more likeable when she wasn't with him tbh (like in the majority of season 2)

Artina: Why even have them get back together? They broke up in season 2 when he treated her like garbage and then she was happy with Mike for years only for the writers to break them up for no reason. Tike was cute and so off to the side that they could have kept it and nothing would have made a difference. Why did the writers hate Tina?

Klaine: To be fair a lot of this ship's failings came from how inconsistently and downright terribly Blaine was written. But still, when he proposed it felt like Kurt wasn't even happy. And it only felt like they got married because everyone pushed them to. Nothing about this ship was ever enjoyable to me, not even in season 2

Quick: Why'd they do Quinn like this😭 I get Puck had changed and that's great but she said to Rachel in season 3, "I can't imagine my past dimming the bright lights of my future." And then she gets with Puck😐 They should have kept her single tbh, her learning to love herself without a man involved was meant to be her whole arc (I also headcanon her as ace, but that's just me🤷🏾‍♀️)

Brittany Pierce, Shelby Corcoran and Sebastian Smythe because there's literally nothing I find significantly redeemable about any of them, like other characters get on my tits but there's still some enjoyable aspects to them, but for these? I got nothing.

Santana in season 6 because what a fucking downgrade, her career storyline is down the toilet and her friendships are all thrown away just reduce her entire personality to br*ttany, even if I actually liked brittany/brittana that would still be a dog shit storyline, but I don't so it's worse than it already is.
