serenading was really the last thing i ever wanted Kate to do as her grand gesture and i still don’t love it, but the amount of people who keep calling a big, awkward, public gesture hugely ooc for Kate and keep saying they miss the old whistler who wasn't dumb, oh DIA Whistler was so much better. its the show’s first season. i don’t think it’s even possible to be ooc when the writers are just starting to create these characters and we barely know them. we only saw ‘cool, confident, bossy dia whistler’ for about 6 episodes before 1x11 happened and changed everything, and while she’s still all of those things she was changing even before the breakup happened and with all the growth she’s gone through, she’s going to end the season looking pretty different to how she started (fair warning, this is a little unhinged and unorganized, just a little)

her arc has been about her learning to let people in and learning to be more honest with her feelings, to not be afraid of putting herself out there and learning how to stop pushing people away as a result of the impact Lucy and the team have had on her. it’s about making yourself vulnerable and trying to find people who will accept you even if you’re an awkward giraffe. throughout the season the writers have been telling us that she: finds it hard to be open and show her emotions, she puts her orders before her feelings at work causing everyone to view her as the ‘bad cop’ and that sucks, she really wants to make connections with her coworkers, but she doesn’t know how and she’s kinda bad at it, she was afraid of starting something with Lucy (and messing it up) because Lucy’s the most amazing woman she’s ever met and she wanted to keep it on the downlow until she felt she could handle it, is actually very charming and sensitive and goofy underneath that hardened exterior

there’s a reason Ernie describes her as “the tall one acting goofy,” she tries to keep her relationship with Lucy a secret and yet you can see her softening as a result of it and being unable to hide their connection and pull to each other even at work. Jesse notices they’re making googly eyes at each other during the Pearl Harbor tour in 1x09 and remarks that “there’s a certain DIA officer i haven’t seen around your desk recently,” because she couldn’t fight the gravitational pull drawing her to Lucy’s desk everyday, literally the worst kept secret at the office you morons! In 1x12 she’s sprinting after Lucy practically shouting after her (loud enough for all of Pearl Harbor to hear) even when she’s asking if Lucy’s going to throw their relationship away that easily. Kate gets a pass with Jane because how can you pretend you don’t care about Lucy after she could’ve died on an UC mission and as for Kai, well, he has two eyes so he definitely noticed too

the Whistler in 1x01 would definitely not be going over to Tennant’s house after 1x14 and sharing a drink with her (might not have warned her about Glenn Smith either) and maybe she wouldn’t have tried comforting her when Jesse went missing in 1x15 (not because she wouldn’t have wanted to, but maybe it would have been harder without all the stuff that happened in between as a result of the Lucy romance) and that’s growth baby!

as for her acting ‘dumb’ and goofy, whistler’s greatest hits (paraphrased):

1x07: the entire opening scene right in front of Ernie's coffee, like ladies its barely 9 in the morning

1x09: “i want to be intimate” “here???”

1x11: "i like this" "the coffee? its fair trade." "so i think i win the dumbass award." "yes...no! NO!"

1x14: “creds... that’s what all the cool agents say :)”

1x17: “the source of the attack was some sort of pineapple” “like the fruit?” (also forgetting she never apologized to Lucy)

1x20: while looking like a beaten bloody piñata “I’m fine just some bruises...and some minor head trauma...” “i did not have Lucy surf quotes on my bingo card today”

1x21: “about the power of love!” -silence- “...anyway i think that’ll help us get through to David” (we were all raving about this scene and how cute it was, but we don't want to acknowledge all the work it took to get here?)

The writers have been showing it all season, this is just who she is the more you get to know her, not liking it is different than ooc

Kate just sucks at talking and processing her emotions on the spot and can’t always immediately formulate a response right away whether you’re her boss or her colleague or her ex girlfriend (she ghosted a girl for months for god’s sakes which is probably honestly where most of the ‘this feels ooc for Kate’ criticism comes from and it’s hard to blame anyone for that because wth Kate, but it also serves as the biggest indictment of how her lack of social skills has effected her life and now it’s finally catching up to her)

a lot of people call Whistler rushing in without thought or backup to be ooc, and while they’ve shown that she’s smart and good at thinking things through (figuring out a way to help the team in 1x06, with the Clark Lohan thing in 1x10, using David's wife’s fate as leverage to get through to him in 1x21), that’s been behind the scenes we never saw her do field work during her stint at the DIA so there’s nothing really to base the ooc claim on, the first time we see her in the field is in 1x17 (she only transferred to the FBI 3 episodes ago) when she rushes in and Lucy has to stop her so it’s not out of the ordinary for her to do something similar in 1x20 at Agent Jones’s house, Whistler in the office and Whistler out in the field are different because they’re different environments entirely (and she’s new to the field)

i dont think the people calling Whistler ooc for acting goofy and socially inept would call her ooc for turning down a promotion anywhere from 1x06-1x13 to stay close to Lucy after early Whistler was billed as ambitious and career-driven (but i guess it’s different because it’s romantic without being awkward...), if we’re going to throw that term out there we should examine all her actions that way not just the one’s we maybe don’t like

you can criticize the writing and the show all you want we all have different opinions we’re not all going to agree on how good Whistler’s development has gone, but i don’t think it’s fair to say any public grand gesture or Kate acting ‘dumb’ is completely out of left field, yes she was more cold and distant and mean earlier (and maybe you preferred that way more) but as the show has progressed you get to see a different more shy, uncertain, dorky side of her and that's not ooc that's just how humans are

she’s been slowly stepping out of her comfort zone all season and Lucy’s influence on her has inspired her to finally make a running jump into the deep end to win her back because she loves her and that’s how much she means to her (my favorite post about the grand gesture written before we knew it was a singing gesture LOL) that's the whole point isn't it? the power of love! has changed Whistler! she's never felt this way about anyone before and is clearly woefully inexperienced in love, she misses Lucy and wants to win her back no matter what so she's willing to listen to anything and do anything to show her she's all in and wants to be with her and only her! love makes us do crazy things, but it makes sense after a season of pain and regret

unfortunately for some people, Kate also happens to be less competent socially so that’s going to manifest in truly awkward (and secondhand embarrassing) ways, but she’s always been capable of this because she’s a multifaceted character and the writers have been showing us that

I think... on the outside, a Maobi baby acts more like Dabi in mannerism, but deep down, leans more towards you in habits. Definitely appears relatively cool and aloof in expression, but is rather quite perceptive and overall very humorous (in that slightly silly but dry and know-it-all Dabi manner).

Given your workaholic nature (ily sorry) and Dabi's ability for long-term planning, I see them as being... oddly organized for a child; the type to hold you to your promises, keep little lists of things in their pockets or even pack up their toy set-ups all nice and neat when not in use. They probably... don't fold their laundry immediately though, and get a lil sassy when you ask LOL.

I also see them as the type of child who picks up on things wayyy better than they should, and constantly makes it known in ways that just end up being super... funny. You know, they hear another kid whining about something, and immediately stare at you w/ an expression that says, "get a load of this guy, huh🙄?" And they'll do this w/ any and every situation, too.

(And esp. when they're forced to eat food that wasn't made by you. They're always polite, of course... but given that you spoil them w/ nice meals and they likely inherited Dabi's very... particular... food standards... they get sad and grumpy when they have to eat something that is just. Not good.)

It's hard to notice, but Maobiby is definitely... a little spoiled. Not in any way that matters because they're also extremely humble (being that they're related to BOTH of you)... but like, they will literally act like they'll die if they aren't allowed to cuddle with you when they want to, going as far as to get all whiney and everything. Literally... 50% of time spent laying in bed or sitting on the couch (w/ Dabi esp.) is interrupted by them getting in with you (or on top of) <333

I was sorta envisioning them as a boy throughout this, but girl dad Dabi is truly... my religion. I feel like it would be delightful if they had his hair and your eyes (so it would truly feel like you were all disconnected from the Todoroki name and would remind him of your silver hair)... but also, your natural, darker hair and his eyes would just make him laugh cuz then they'd just look like him when he had his dyed hair.

Definitely a pretty baby either way. People compliment you on it probably LOOOL.

fan of breasts?

chicken breasts? yeah! they are, maybe & arguably, one of the most delicious part of the chicken. well, maybe next to drumsticks (which i personally prefer for things like fried chicken, or soups). in particular, i like to use chicken breasts for making katsu, which, lemme tell ya, i'm no expert cook, but id like to think that i do a pretty good job.

matter of fact, if you want an extremely simple recipe, here's how i personally make chicken katsu (all off the top of my head, so some slight details might be missing, so please bear with me):

you'll need a few ingredients

panko (any sort of breadcrumbs will work, but panko is just the brand i use)

cookin' oil (usually simple vegtable oil will work)

the actual chicken breast, of course

the ol' traditional: salt and pepper

one egg (u dont need any more than one egg, typically)

if u wanna make things extra crunchy, having some corn starch mixed in with garlic powder + onion powder for some extra seasoning. maybe even a scoosh of paprika for that yummy (i personally like using this filipino chicken mixture called "crispy fry", which is usually used for fried chicken, but it works here too. it's usually meant for fried chicken drumstick, but what is katsu but a different kind of fried chicken)

anyways, here's how u wanna do things:

take out your chicken breast, pat it down with a paper towel so that it aint wet on the surface and either: slice it so that the chicken breast is about inch and a quarter (or so) thick OR use a mallet to make it around that thickness. youll want your chicken flat as possible, but not too flat! i think you know what i mean.

salt and peppa that mothafucka, both sides (OPTIONAL STEP 2B: it's at this point id probably mix my chicken breast with the starch mixture/crispy fry. it just gives a lil extra flavour and crunch that i enjoy. but this is just me, u dont really gotta do it)

crack open an egg and put it in a bowl. MIX IT UP

put your flattened (and maybe crispy fry seasoned) chicken in the egg. get it drenched, you want that panko to stick to that shit

what i like to do is i like to put panko in a plastic container with a lid, then i put the chicken in the container, close the lid up and just SHAKE it so that its nice and evenly coated. super simple and fun and WAY cleaner to deal with after the fact LOL

pop your oil in your pan. put in generous amount, enough that your chicken wont necessarily be drowning, but enough that your chicken will be sufficiently fried. heat that up until the oil reaches that perfect temperature of around 350'F (that is THE temp for doing any deep frying)

pop your chicken on the pan and leave it frying on the one side for, id say, approximately 4-5 minutes. youre going to have to keep a close watch on it. make sure that panko is that GOOD crispy brown on each side. over all it should take you like…. 7-9 minutes for your katsu to be done.

BEFORE YOU EAT... make sure the internal temp of the chicken is around 160 - 165'F. if it is, it's good to go. take it out and, what i like to do is get a plate and pop on a paper towel to let the katsu dry off all the excess oil. even though its off the pan, that shit is STILL cookin, so youll want to leave it alone for like… a minute or two. plus if you eat it now you'll totally burn your tongue and that's the WORST feeling in the world

and after all that, your katsu is done! get some jasmine (white) rice, put on some katsu sauce and some japanese mayo with a lil bit of furikake for that slight seaweed flavoring and youll be GOOD to go!!

so yeah, i guess you can say i'm a fan of breasts.

you and neymar were both on the plane back home, after spending a blissful week vacationing, you knew you had to eventually go back to your normal lives, with you being an actress, and him being a footballer, you dreaded going back home, knowing you would have to work again.

“ugh, i hate this.” you whined, stretching on the uncomfortable plane seat, which you’ve been sitting on for quite literally; 5 hours.

you’ve been trying to get some sleep, so that way, you wont have to go to work exhausted, but clearly, your attempts weren’t working.

turning in his chair, neymar looks at you, “why, what’s wrong amor?” he said softly, not wanting to wake up the other passengers on the plane.

you could tell that he, aswell, was also having the same issue.

“i’ve been trying to sleep for so long, but for some reason my dumb brain just wont shut off.” you pouted.

“hey, hey, hey, stop right there, dont insult that pretty brain of yours, if you wont appreciate it then i will.” he whispered back.

“it also keeps you alive bebe, what would i do without it?” he sighed dramatically, you could feel his gaze on your face, but you kept your eyes closed, hoping that would bring you to sleep.

“the heart is what keeps you alive dumbass.” you chuckled softly, “meu deus this is what happens when i try to be romantic. remind me to never do that again.” he laughed.

“i think its cute actually, thank you for the compliment.”

you opened your eyes to find him already looking at you, he was smiling and you didnt know why.

“whats the smile for?” you tell him, knowing that you probably have the same look mirrored on your face, but who cares right?

“nothing amor, you’re just cute when you’re tired.” he laughed, the dim light making his features look slightly blurry, but nevertheless, his eyes held that same sparkle that he reserved only for you.

“shut up, all i did was complain anyway.” you rolled your eyes playfully and turned your head, trying to hide the blush slowly appearing on your face.

he softly cupped your chin in his hand, turning your head to face him, “i love it when you’re snarky.” he whispered, closing the gap between you, his lips were delicate against yours, as if they were designed to fit together perfectly.

the feeling was pure bliss, and you weren't sure if it was because it was 4 in the morning or if you were just exhausted. either way, you loved of sleepy neymar.

you slowly broke apart, looking into eachothers eyes, and laughed at how tired you both looked, but, instead of trying to sleep anymore, you both talked about anything and everything.

your talks consisted of random things, whatever topic entered your minds, you talked about. wether it was stupid, or deep, he listened, and you appreciated that.

somewhere in the conversation, you felt your eyes drooping, sleep slowly overtaking you, yet you still made sure to mumble a “mhm.” and a “yeah.” to make sure neymar knew you were listening.

eventually, the feeling got too overwhelming, so you just decided to give in, falling asleep to neymars voice, appreciating his presence and snuggling into his warmth.

“you know, i would like to have a cat and a dog one day, maybe it would fix the rivalry you know?” neymar mumbled, and when he noticed the silence on your end, he turned his head and found you sleeping on his shoulder, eyes closed and breathing even.

he smiled softly at the sight, you looked so beautiful. he wondered how he got so lucky. “eu te amo.” he whispered into your hair, kissing your forehead.

he eventually fell asleep as well, with his head resting on top of yours. glad that you weren’t struggling anymore.

mission accomplished, he thought.

okay so about the poll with about whether or not u should give y/n a backstory

a lot of ppl dont bc then they wont be hashtag relatable but honestly sometimes it makes the y/n feel a bit- dry

personally i love it when y/ns arent just blank slates and have an actual backstory. ofc its a self insert so ppl probably disagree with me, but it makes y/n feel more like a character than just "yeah ur there for some reason." i quite enjoy learning and seeing the reasons y the y/ns act the way they do. such as with ur y/n and how the reason y theyre so sensitive around the topic of soulmates is bc theyre colorblind and also bc of their backstory and trauma. it makes them feel more real and not just a blank character wandering around. plus it gives u the chance to sympathize and actually feel a connection to the character. i personally get frustrated when characters do something and theres no reason to it bc we have little to no information as to why they r the way they r

anyway, that was a huge ass rant, but my answer is yes. itd be very enjoyable for the y/n to have a backstory. and, sometimes, when the y/n has a backstory it makes them more relatable. so ya never know :)

this was fun to design cuz i was on my universi- no, i was on "The U" and my teacher told us to design some medieval characters in teams, and then, that's when my classmates realised that this was my time to shine, XDDDD they already know im such an obsessed hyperfixiated with castle crashers and then, SHE, was done, my classmates and I gave some ideas design and some of story, it goes like this, she was hired to defeat the evil king's evil plans (it's a different king btw) and she will do her best to escape the evil king's castle, and probably work for crashlandia (i wont put her on CC OVA's tho cuz this is gonna cause ppl wanting me to put their ocs and that will be a hard work, this was an experience i had back when i was animating the A Hat in Time anime fanmade series, it was very hard for me to make a complete story with lots of ocs there)

anyways, hope you enjoy my funny moment at "The U" dont give me the only credit, this character belongs to the team i was (they were like a team of 11 ppl) along with me, i designed her and gave her elemental magic (doesnt have a defined elemental magic yet)

im in a Reading Mood finally but cant quite move on from Midnight Riot but also. I really enjoyed that so I don't have much to say! I don't know why this happens!!!! I can go on and on about books I hate but books I enjoy are usually just *rolls in grass* unless they alter my brain juices

so uh. idk! it was fun! it was neat! it was most definitely Written By A Man but I wasn't mad about it? It was like Dresden but uh. Not just Bettsr, but. Hm. Not even LESS male gaze-y tbh I just wasn't mad about when Peter talked about women. I guess maybe because he still respected them? It's been a while since I've read any Dresden, idk if he respects women lol

Magic was neat! I found it funny Peter accepted it so easily lmao hes like "oh cool magic lets do science about this" I'd do the same bro

typical cop serial, but honestly? I like them lol I spent ten years obsessed with CSI im very familiar with the tropes and love them when done right, even more when it's campy (bones looking at u) so yeah this was a good fit for me

not a huuuge fan of the history lessons but they were woven in nicely i just. history usually bores me im sorry im tired of hearing about london but i think thats a Me problem because my mom talks about london a lot LMAO

Some Magnetic Way I Move by Shenanigans

relationships: Roy Harper/Jason Todd

summary: roy is a kid who wonders near the ocean without any pirpose in life when he meets a creature that seems too good to be true, then life gets in the way, and roy gets in his own way even harder

notes: this fic has been obsessing me since i read it the first time, its dark and fucked up and completely too easy to get absorbed into, roy is a complicated, messed up man with a shitty life and a tendency to completely destroy himself and you cannot look away from him

this story moves along several years of roys life and his growth or lack thereof and its so easy to get lost in the pacing of this fic and just enjoy the ride, as hard as it gets

literally no need to know anything about dc, just read it and thank me later

Heroes of the Squared Circle by Mithen

words: 226,687 (yes, i wrote that right, it takes a good week)

rating and warnings: M, sexual content (theres one whole scene in a thousand pages), nothing past canon typical violence

relationships: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne

summary: clark is a wrestler, so he follows his heart and joins a promotion where he meets bruce, cue their adventures as they work their way through a retelling of the best dc moments: wrestling edition

notes: OKAY HEAR ME OUT i did not like wrestling before i started this fic, i took a minute to get into it, the moment i got into it i could not stop

this is one of the most fun, most detailed, most passioned fics ive ever read, a love letter to dc and wrestling so vivid and transparent that it genuinely made me excited for it too, all the characters are treated with love and care and the main relationship is so exciting, u can feel the love they hold for each ohter but never overshadows the wonderfully crafted story and the genuinely engaging plot

(cried at the end cause of how much i loved it. i dont cry)

Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender

Below the Sun by CSHfic, VSfic

words: 24,853 (can be read in a long afternoon)

rating and warnings: M, no sexual content, i would consider it T but there is a good amount of injuries

relationships: Sokka/Zuko

summary: sokka and zukko get stranded on an island after a shipwreck and have to learn not to be at each others throats while waiting for rescue

notes: heartwarming and weirdly peaceful, though the inherent anxiousness of sokka being stranded and injured with an enemy nearby does get to you, easy to read and easy to love, honestly a good time through and through and a good reflection on friendship

if you havent watched atla (watch it) you can read this anyway, only minimum knowledge is required for this fic

Fandom: Modern Warfare

i like you alive by kaijusalad

words: 11,254 (another afternoon read)

rating and warnings: M, graphic violence and injuries, no sexual content

relationships: John "Soap" MacTavish/Simon "Ghost" Riley

summary: soap gets really injured in a mission and ghost has to get him out of there, somehow keep him awake, try not to die, and not panic and he is partially failing

notes: intense high-stakes fic, graphic and heart-wrenching and yet somehow very warm, incredibly easy to start praying for ghosts success cause hes... hes trying so hard! once you start reading you wont be able to stop until u reach the end, also anyone typing out accents has my unconditional love

no previous knowledge needed to read this fic, just brace yourselves (btw i dont know why but the tags in this fic are so funny to me)

Doing Time by MildLimerence

words: 53,566 (takes 2 or 3 days)

rating and warnings: M, graphic sexual content plus graphic violence, both to a preeeetty fucking explicit level so please check the tags

relationships: John "Soap" MacTavish/Simon "Ghost" Riley

summary: in a world where soulmates are scarce and sometimes even dangerous to other people or themselves, soap ends up getting himself arrested cause his mark makes him go a bit wild and, to his horror, activates when he finally arrives at prison

notes: listen, i hate soulamates (i love you on purpose) but theres something about the way this author writes them that gets me, the connection between soulmates is more of a telepathic, magnetic connection and the lack of it can make soulmates go completely feral, its not the beautiful thing everyone thinks it is

dont want to spoil much but dont be fooled by the summary, this baby has a whole plot prepared and though the dynamic between characters and dark elements are incredibly fun on their own, i ended up getting actually really hooked by the plot, reeeeally fun read

knowing who the characters are makes it an easier read but i dont think youll get lost if you dont

Fandom: Supernatural

like moses and batman and james dean by saltyfeathers

words: 31,587 (takes a couple days, def a couple breaks)

rating and warnings: M, graphic sexual content, not all of it fun, gets pretty dark so check the tags and the authors notes

relationships: Castiel/Dean Winchester

summary: dean used to turn tricks to make sure he had enough money to care for his brother, now that he has met cas, his issues with intimacy resurface with a vengeance

notes: not an easy fic to read, heavy topics are touched and you feel genuinely bad for dean but the characterization is so perfect that i tend to think of deans past here as canon, as messed up as it is

even though the topics are dark, the fic doesnt dwell on the worst stuff, there are no scenes written for shock value, its a tasteful take on dark topics, its just heartbreaking and powerful, it will make you root for the main characters, hard

if you dont know these characters you may be pretty lost but you definitely only need a basic idea of the show
