wait i haven’t watched the show in a while, why is canon cam bad?

Ooh boy, I could talk about this for ages. I’ll just list the main things. In the majority of the episodes in most of the seasons but primarily in the later half, Cam is toxic, controlling, manipulative, and just all-around a bad partner. He treats Mitchell terribly, from diminishing his trauma and belittling him to flat-out not caring when his own mother, Barb, and his sister, Pam, sexually assaulted Mitchell on multiple occasions.

He plays on Mitchell’s abandonment issues (such as keeping a packed suitcase to leave whenever he wants), he mocks Mitchell for not being romantic but scorns him when he does (‘Manny Get Your Gun’ is the biggest example of this), and openly scorns Mitchell for having boundaries (‘The Kiss’ comes to mind, but this happens in almost every episode). Additionally, there are so many scenes where he just appears to not care about Mitchell whatsoever; in ‘The Wild’, for example, when Mitchell is left outside alone in the middle of the woods at night, Cam doesn’t care at all, or in ‘Summer Lovin’ when his only priority is to shove Mitchell back into work rather than help him work through what’s really going on/what he’s struggling with.

The three worst things Cam has done, however, is 1) in s11 when he lied about Mitchell to their friend group and faked a breakup in order to gain sympathy for no reason other than his own ego, something I have had an ex do to me which makes it more personal, 2) in the episode ‘Mother!’ when Cam is shown to have befriended DeDe (who is portrayed as someone who abused Mitchell and Claire!!) and talked shit about Mitchell to her for their entire relationship, and 3) in the episode ‘Grab It’ when Cam forces Mitchell into a role on stage where he is non-consensually kissed by a girl and forces Mitchell to apologize for ‘ruining his play’ afterward (I’ve actually written a fix-it for several of these aforementioned situations, which you can find on my ao3, link in bio).

I won’t even go into detail about the ending of s11 for them, because I know some people are still watching it, but Mitchell was forced into that too, even when it was an awful situation that would bring good for no one other than - you guessed it - Cameron.

Some people might say that Mitchell is toxic, too. I wholeheartedly disagree, however. One example is, as previously listed, ‘Manny Get Your Gun’, when Mitchell is part of a flash mob to surprise Cam with a romantic gesture, but Cam is ungrateful and angry and just a douche overall.

When Mitchell tells Cam he is being sensitive, he is one hundred percent correct. On the flip side, when Mitchell is sexually assaulted by Cam’s mother and voices his discomfort to Cam, and Cam calls him sensitive - that is toxic. That is not okay. That is disgusting behavior.

I could go on and on and on about how Mitchell deserves so much better, how Cam is terrible, how the homophobia is so deeply rooted in the show’s writers that they made the one gay couple into one of the most manipulative and toxic relationships I’ve ever seen in media. I could also stress how bad this could be for someone in real life (i.e., ‘my favorite TV couple acts like this and so if my relationship is also like that, it must be healthy!’) or how terrible it is given what we know about Mitchell’s past with shitty boyfriends only to be thrust into this new environment with another toxic partner. But I believe I’ve given enough broad examples to this.

Unfortunately, this really can be blamed on the homophobia of the writers/network and of just bad writing itself; sitcoms often fall apart when going on too long, or relationships lose their charm with the audience. That’s my biggest issue with sitcoms, though- I guarantee that no one was laughing when Cam got angry at Mitchell because Cam’s sister assaulted him.

TLDR: Cam is manipulative and toxic and shitty, which is why I write fanfiction for them. Because Mitchell deserves better, and in the fleeting, rare episodes where Cam sticks to his pilot version rather than an awful partner, he is just as wonderful. They were visiting the Miller's for the weekend, and Jeannie had insisted on everyone walking down to Madison's favourite diner for lunch- apparently they had a turkey sandwich that John would die over.

"Yes, well, being away from the watchful eyes of the primitive United States military helps with being able to do normal couple things," Rodney shot back, and three years ago the comment might have made John nervous. But he knew Rodney, and he could see the flicker of amusement in his eyes.

It was part of why they worked so well.

"It also means I get to do this," John mumbled as he pulled Rodney into him, kissing him deeply and passionately in the middle of the sidewalk. Someone bumped into them, apologizing without looking up, and John was allowed to not care.

"You know, I still can't believe you found someone genuinely happy to do that with you, Mer," Jeannie said loudly, interrupting their kiss. John laughed at the way Rodney pulled away and glared at his sister.

"And I can't believe you found someone willing to put up with the obnoxious comments you like to pretend count as humour," Rodney shot back. Jeannie laughed loudly.

"Oh, Mer, you don't get to pretend you know what humour is," Jeannie said, and the two started bickering as they walked down the sidewalk, Rodney never letting go of John's hand, even as his own was flailing around, John's hand being dragged helplessly along.

John smiled.

SWAP Force headcanons, I don't care what their about, gimme-/nf

Oh, sure thing! Here are a few that I’ve got:

Eon and the SWAP Force have been a team for centuries. (I believe that the book Skylanders SWAP Force: Master Eon’s Official Guide states that they’ve been working together for many hundreds of years, and I thought that was super neat, so now it’s just canon to me!)

Because of this one ask you’ve sent me a little while back, I’m now very fond of the idea that the SWAP Force were/are still friends with the previous Chieftess. I like to think they still visit her from time to time

I like to think that every SWAPer has met Ambush in the past. Ambush’s official bio states that he had fought one of Kaossandra’s Troll armies at some point, perhaps when she was still very active as a villain. And since I headcanon that Kaossandra was Eon’s nemesis during the SWAP Force’s heyday, maybe that fight between Ambush and Kaossandra’s Troll army happened while the SWAPers were still protecting Skylands centuries ago

Adding onto that, Ambush might’ve tutored some of the SWAPers himself!

(This one was suggested by a friend and I thought it was so sweet) The SWAPer that Ignitor has the closest bond with is Blast Zone. Whereas Ignitor’s flaming body was the result of a curse, Blast Zone’s flaming body is simply a natural trait that Furnace Knights possess. And since Ignitor has been stated as being self-conscious of his cursed body, spending time with someone like Blast Zone who’s perfectly happy with his Furnace Knight body could be very inspiring for Ignitor! Blast Zone would be so supportive of him

This one’s really, really silly but I love to imagine that Boom Jet and Doom Stone are best friends for no other reason than them being voiced by Roger Craig Smith (current voice of Sonic the Hedgehog) and Travis Willingham (previous voice for Knuckles the Echidna) respectively. Certified Sonic & Knuckles moment. Like, c’mon

Genuinely worried, not a troll ask. Is TNR bad in all situations? I’m in an extremely rural area and have been working to TNR the local cat colony for about six years now. Most are feral, so it literally is ‘trap’ in that TNR and then handle the trap with puncture proof gloves, etc. I’ve managed to bring their numbers down from the mid twenties to about eight with only one litter born this spring, that I managed to catch and get to a shelter three hours away before they were too feral to handle.

Basically if I didn’t do TNR here, we’d just have a ton of feral cats and no birds at all? There are no resources. I’ve been trying for years to find someone willing to work with this area and we’re too far out in a zone with no resources in the one county shelter.

Hey there anon! I don't know if TNR is bad in all situations, I can just speak to what I've heard/read about and how it personally makes me feel. I'm glad that the method worked for you in your area and you were able to get that last litter to a good home! Regardless of my own feelings I'm glad it worked for you.

Below the cut are my thoughts on TNR. I don't mean it personally anon, I think that your care for the cats in your area is very honourable even if I don't quite agree with TNR as a whole. This is more of an explanation as to how TNR makes me feel than anything else.

Environmentally, you're still reintroducing the cats back into the ecosystem (just neutered). If TNR works exactly as it's supposed to and the cats don't die prematurely that's still years to potentially over a decade of dead birds killed by cats. There have also been studies shown that TNR doesn't always work as successfully as in your situation. People often see feeding stations as a safe place to dump unwanted pets, or else other intact strays can move in to fill in the gaps of deceased TNR colony members. [1] [2] [3]

My biggest concern with TNR though is the welfare of the cats. To use your colony as an example, in the course of six years you lost 15-20 cats. Some friendly kittens might have been adopted out, but what happened to the other ones that weren't adoptable? We keep our pet cats indoors to keep them safe from harm, but there's no way to keep ferals safe from disease, parasites, injuries, traffic, weather, or wildlife. Without an owner they're left wandering out there without vet care after being hit by a car, or getting frostbite, an infection, illness, etc. When they do die stray cats usually die pretty gruesome deaths, and personally I'm uncomfortable condemning a cat to that by rereleasing them with TNR. Even if TNR was a 100% effective way to minimize cat populations to me it seems kind of... cruel.

My sort-of jab at the author of that book was related to my feelings on those cats. Alley Cat Allies and other TNR groups often argue that if a cat is a part of a TNR colony it shouldn't be adopted out. TNR groups often advocate for these "community cats" to be left alone. Here's a screenshot from Alley Cat Allies in an article titled "5 Ways to Advocate for Cats in your Community":

Knowing that these cats can be injured/killed so easily and painfully and that they're being denied a safe, happy, and healthy life with a human owner just doesn't sit right with me. Not every TNR group advocates for this kind of practice, but it's enough of a pattern that I'm wary of them. It seems like the author of that book thinks it's better for your cat to be "happy and free" outdoors rather than inside.

Tbh I'd love to hear about your weird crackship 👀

I'll have you know that I spend an hour sketching just to answer this. My little crackship is Dexter x Radford, or as I've been calling it, Poisoned Popcorn! Earlier this week the idea popped into my mind that these two should meet but I didn't know if I'd like it or not. i feel like this is a too-obvious answer but it's the only one i can think of: since it's one of the few parts of the trilogy where i'm willing to mess around on my phone while it's on, it's ye olde cannibal island. the swinging bone cages with the graceful music is p funny but there are infinite other ways they could've done a "will has to save jack who is trapped on island and chaos ensues" storyline. it also goes on for a very long time when there is so much else that is going on plot-wise that is more worthy of screentime

(similarly i think multiple jacks is way too long, especially in light of some of the things they cut from the movie. speaking of which...........)

this will surprise absolutely zero people, but i can't not call swann song the one that got away [pensive emoji] i know they'd have to fiddle with a bit of dialogue to make it make sense if it stayed, but my very biased opinion says it would be worth it. for one thing, all the actors in that scene sold it so well and it's sad that it was for basically nothing. but also as a known james and gov swann enjoyer, it's one of their best (and only) scenes together in the whole trilogy -- it'd be the only time they even talked to each other in awe if it was still in there. and apart from the plot relevance of explaining the curse on the heart in such a tense environment, it also clearly establishes the reason for killing gov swann with that p metal closing line from beckett.

Okay Zesty. Here's a Joe ask for ya: How does Joe bond with each of the Patrol Team and BB members?

Dina: This kid lives and breathes fossil battles so of course, they battle each other a lot (Joe battles with all his flaplings but Dina bursts into his suite and loudly demands a fight multiple times a week). She always kicks his ass, and while he's frustrated that he can never seem to beat her, at the same time he's just overwhelmingly proud of how far she's come.

Dino: Dino also battles with Joe a lot, but unlike his sister he doesn't get as insanely competitive and overly enthusiastic as she does. He may also ask Joe to go digging with him or ask him to clean fossils with him (I actually think Joe is amazing at cleaning fossils, super focused and very meticulous in how he does it, and at least some of the perfectly cleaned fossils in fighter stations were from Joe). No matter what they both end up covered in dust lmao.

Todd: Joe is painfully aware of how much Todd idolizes him. Todd idolizes him more than the twins do, and that's saying something. Todd aspires to be a great fighter like Joe and Dina, but after reflecting on the allo attack and his first meeting with Joe, Todd has decided that he wants to be a vivosaur wrangler too! So, Joe teaches him everything he knows about handling rogue vivosaurs. If Joe gets a call to round up a vivosaur, he brings Todd with him (it makes the other kids jealous lol).

Pauleen: She may be getting better at managing her social anxiety but she still struggles with it sometimes, and Joe helps her however he can. She also talks his ear off about fashion and her love of unicorns.

Rupert: While Rupert does enjoy the chaos of a fossil battle and the rush of adrenaline that comes with it, he also greatly enjoys simply sitting with someone and talking to them. So, Joe and Rupert spend a lot of time outside of battle chatting with one another. Rupert tells Joe about his popularity as a fighter and the stress of it, and also about his father (the more Joe learns about the fossildig ceo the less he likes him). Joe mostly is just there to lend an ear and offer advice when he can. They both are bonding over their dislike of paparazzi, and over their shared zz trauma.

Lester: Joe lets Lester host his own rock concerts, and Lester tells him all about his favorite bands. He even shows Joe all his prized merch (Joe can only look though, no touching).

Cole: Cole is always looking for test subjects for his latest fashion projects and Joe sometimes volunteers. Cole has made a ton of outfits for Joe to wear. Joe never truly knows what he's in for whenever Cole asks to try something out on him but it never ends as badly as Joe thinks it would be.

Lola: She'll join in on Cole's fashion shenanigans (she handles makeup while Cole handles the outfits). Joe has made it a habit of looking for new kinds of bubblegum for Lola to try, and Lola gladly takes anything he gives her.

Hello!

I will eventually do costume designs for Spot, Race, and Crutchie! Detective noir au is first and foremost a design project and I’m having a lot of fun designing costumes for everyone (and i may already have started gathering references for Spot and Race wbwbwb).

When I’ll draw the designs is yet to be seen wbwbw, as I reach the end of the school holidays I’m trying to prioritise schoolwork I’ve left unfinished (revision :( and also preliminary designs for my drama coursework =D) but because I’m also using detective noir au as a way to do research for my drama work without considering it “work” I may start work on Spot soon 👀👀👀.

I’m also thinking about re-working crutchie’s role slightly! (because he fits a pianist role but i found something interesting about bootleggers so 👀👀👀.

It is not really relevant for the story, it’s more of a backstory/worldbuilding thing.

Many children of fair fae nobility learn to play an instrument as part of their education. But especially in Talon’s family music has a high value, that’s why every child from the household plays an instrument.

Talon’s mother grew up at the Aspen court, a court where all kinds of art are extremely valued. Her family was pretty musical, her brother for example was a bard at the queen’s court.

So she grew up loving music and she passed that on to her children, it was important to her that they learn to make use of their family’s talent.

And Sera and Talon both are very talented, they used to play a lot together. Talon regularly moved his parents’ visitors to tears with his music.

He loves playing the violin, though he doesn’t do it that often anymore since his sister left to another court.

The main reason for Maya to be taught an instrument was to give Talon another partner to make music with, his mother hoped it would make him play more often again.

Long story short (I excuse the ramble), then playing instruments isn’t relevant to the plot, but it’s a relevant part of Talon’s character at least.

It makes him happy. And if his brother wouldn’t have died, he probably would’ve become a bard like his uncle.

I actually have a band au in which the main four have a band together! I like musician too much to not make one xD

Beside the violin, Talon mainly plays guitar (bass?) there and Maya too plays a different instrument. Also Halea plays drums and Aiden is lead singer in this scenario.

I didn’t make a lot of content for it yet, but it’s fun to play around with and I do have some headcanons and a playlist!

I also have an au where Talon is a singer but I never talk about that one cause it’s super angsty and depressing 🙈

I actually managed to be normal about THH (mostly because I didn’t know anyone else who was way into it) so I kinda kept it under wraps, and then Goodbye Despair happened and I was immediately entranced by whatever the fuck Nagito had going on, and then when they finished it I went out and bought v3 IMMEDIATELY. I’m talking like finished the episode and was on the PlayStation store 1 minute later, which is funny because now I can look back to when that episode was uploaded and put a precise date stamp on my own descent into madness

on the topic of ""pet friendly"" establishments, hotels are really bad about that. so many would claim to be pet friendly and then in super tiny print say they'd only accept dogs. it was nearly impossible to find lodging that would take cats when my family and i went on a roadtrip

Ugh you’re so right! I really want to do a road trip with the boys someday but the main barrier for me is finding those cat friendly hotels. I really don’t get it, it’s not as if cats are noisier or make more of a mess than dogs. If anything I’d say they’re less of an inconvenience for the hotel (but I might be biased).
