At Times,
(Oh boy oh boy, another installment in the “Sasuke is raised by the Akatsuki au” yay. This one is a little weird and underdone but I. I tried. Also sprinkled some mythology in there because i wanted to. hurrah. Anyway, here is some fluffy stuff, yeah. good ole fluffy. next one probably won’t be. but you know. also I am jumping all over the place this timeline is not linear i will be jumping all over the damn place so you know. @ghostjellyfishheart i made another one.)
TW and CW for: child injury, semi-gratuitous depiction of serious injuries, sort of amnesia, fucked up sleep schedules/habits, kidnapping, distress, probably ooc characters, this is a long one brace yourself but its mostly fluff i swear, tell me if I missed anything.
Sasuke woke up alone, for some reason. He opened his eyes carefully, sitting up. That action wasn't without pain of course, suddenly it felt like liquid fire had been poured into his veins, specifically his arm. He hissed through his teeth and looked blankly at it. His arm looked the same as the last time he looked at it, except a lot worse. A lot worse. Broken, it was clearly broken at the elbow. Well, it looked like he wouldn't get to sleep in afterall. Sasuke looked around him to try and get a grasp on his surroundings, and found that he was sitting in the middle of the woods, propped up against a tree. He groaned as he tried to get to his feet, scanning his surroundings again. He didn't see anything or anyone, but forced his sharingan away regardless. What happened? He couldn't remember. He must have gotten separated from the others, he’d been on a mission with Sasori and Deidara, right? And then… something happened. Sasuke felt panic grow in his chest. There had to be somewhere close he could go to collect his thoughts. His arm was beginning to scream, the numbness from unconsciousness wearing off. He was awake now, and the pain was only going to get worse. He gritted his teeth. Oh well. He’d been through worse. Conveniently, when he looked around, he found a path not too far from the tree he’d woken up at and began to follow it. He felt… heavy. Sasuke reached into his pocket, trying to figure out what he had on him should the need to defend himself arose. A couple of kunai that he nearly stabbed his fingers on when he reached into his pocket, and… something else. He pulled it out and his face twisted in disgust. A Hidden Sand Village headband. Was that who found him? Maybe? He was half tempted to throw the band into the brush but decided against it, tucking it back into his pocket. Not too far away, he came to a town that he… recognized. Degarashi Port, he realized. How did he get to Degarashi port? That's in the land of tea. Where is Sasori and Deidara? Itachi? Where is… anybody? Fuck, he’d really stepped in it now. He couldn't remember if something had happened, couldn't remember how he ended up here. Well that's head trauma for you, he thought bitterly. He probably had some type of head trauma. That was a good explanation. He was wearing his traveling clothes, his cloak and a sun hat he could use to cover his face if he needed to. Walking through the town, he tried to go over what he could remember. He’d been with Deidara and Sasori in tea country to assassinate some major leader. They had been scouting out a piece of land to see if they could camp there. And then… and then Sasori shouted something, and the scorpion tail, and then Deidara’s face looked more alarmed than Sasuke had ever seen it… and then nothing, for a while. And then… he paled. Fuck. something had happened, something bad. He’d been captured by someone who recognized him somehow, for what he was, who he was. Something about his eyes, something about the sharingan, forcing him to show it to them. Somehow he managed to get away; either he killed them and ran or stole away. Either way, he was in public now, so getting kidnapped wasn't so much an issue anymore. No one would snatch a kid in broad daylight in front of everyone, or at least, he didn't think so.
He meandered down the road, trying to clear his foggy head and look for a plan of action. His broken arm was tucked under his cloak, safely out of sight. Other than that, he didn't look like anything out of the ordinary, for the most part. He turned a corner into an alleyway, leaning back against the wall. He knew this place like the back of his hand because of how many times he’d been there, it was kind of ridiculous how many bloodthirsty people there were in a place called the land of tea. He needed to get back to the land of Wind, he needed to get back to the lair. Deidara and Sasori had to be somewhere else. Whoever captured him had been smart, they probably led them to somewhere that was a dead end. He had to get back on his own, and Sasuke could do that. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully. No, he had to. He would. He would get home. Whatever happened was important, he knew that. He had to get back home because of… because of what? Couldn't remember, whatever it was, he had to get back to the Akatsuki lair. When had he started calling it home?
“Oh my god, hold on, I know that kid!” Sasuke turned around just in time to lay eyes on four people. One of them was tall, white haired with an eyepatch and a bored expression. The other three were kids, around his age. One of them was dressed in a long sleeved crop top and his skin was so pale and grey Sasuke almost thought he was dead. After a few seconds of looking at him, he understood better. Black hair, serious eyes, fake smile. He's seen that before. The third person is a girl, short pink hair and wide green eyes. And the fourth… he felt his heart jump up into his throat. Blond, blue eyes. A stupid, stupid fucking smile. His mind flashes back years to being stranded at a boring hotel with an obnoxious boy around his age. Part of him wants to disappear, and the other part is grateful to see someone who’s just a little bit familiar. The blonde ran over to him.
“Sasuke!” he called. “Hey, hey Sasuke! It's me, it's Naruto!” He remembered that name, and he remembered that face from a long time ago out in the country side. Sasuke must have been around twelve then, bored out of his mind because of how long Kisame and Itachi were taking to get a job. He didn't have a single friend his age at that point, (he still didn't, but he wouldn't think about that) so it was kind of refreshing to meet someone else like him. Even if it came in the form of a loud annoying boy with the brain of a toddler that screamed his name constantly and had no idea what it meant to keep his voice down.
“Naruto,” Sasuke said bluntly. “I um- I can tell. That it's you.” The other three people followed behind and Sasuke did his best to figure them out. The girl, pink hair, is looking at him with something like admiration. He couldn't tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing. The other two seemed more cautious, the black haired one still smiling blankly but more on guard and the white haired adult… Sasuke got the creeping feeling that he was being analyzed right back. He tucked that into the back of his mind for later. This person was dangerous. He knew that much.
“Who’s this, Naruto?” the girl asked. Naruto glanced at her.
“Huh? Oh! Sakura, this is Sasuke.” He turned back to his friend. “And Sasuke, this is Sakura, Kakashi, and Sai. Sasuke’s a friend from a while ago, on that journey with Jiraiya?” Sasuke’s head was turning particularly slow. He blinked.
“J-Jiraiya? Like the legendary Sannin?” Naruto’s smile grew wider. He probably thought Sasuke was impressed by his trainer, but in reality, Sasuke was thinking well, the last time I met a Sannin, he tried to cut out my eyes and/or use me and Itachi for creepy ritual stuff, that was not a good time. Of course, Naruto didn't need to know the inner workings of his mind. In his confused and half delirious state, Sasuke wondered idly if Naruto had a similar experience with Jiraiya. He doubted it, frankly.
“Hello. My name is Sai,” the black haired boy said robotically. Sasuke didn't trust him, and he didn't trust that smile. At all. Still, he gave a half wave with his good hand.
“Sasuke knows Ninjutsu!” Naruto said proudly. White hair, Kakashi, raised an eyebrow.
“Oh? And what village is he from?” Naruto frowned. Sasuke tried not to grimace. He remembered his interactions with Naruto very, very clearly. They traded techniques, beat the hell out of each other a little bit, had a lot of fun and shared memories and thoughts they hadn’t ever shared with anyone before, and then… and than Sasuke noticed the leaf headband and disappeared without a word. He used any excuse to be anywhere else, because this kid was a leaf ninja. He couldn't risk it. He could never have been friends with someone like that.
“Hey, I never gotta ask. Where ya from anyway?” Naruto asked.
“H-Hidden Sand,” Sasuke said quickly, pulling the almost forgotten badge from his pocket and showing it to them. Kakashi seemed to approve, and Naruto smiled.
“Damn, Sunagakure? I've got some friends from there, that's-”
“What's a Sand village ninja doing this far south?” Kakashi asked contemplatively.
“Lets just say I got… separated from my squad,” Sasuke told them, a plan beginning to form in his foggy mind. “I know the area here, I could help you get back to Fire Country. Do you think you can help me get back to Suna? I… erm… a sort of… diplomatic mission?” Naruto smiled wider, something Sasuke hardly thought was possible.
“Sure! Gaara’s the Kazekage, he’s like, my best friend. No problem at all!” Kakashi sighed.
“Okay, what could possibly go wrong? Just a little pit stop at Suna, nothing more, nothing less…” Sasuke felt himself let out a breath of relief. At some point they started walking back towards the woods after Sasuke pointed to a couple of spots on the map, and at one point or another, the pain in Sasuke’s arm began to build. He stumbled on the forest path.
“Woah there kiddo, what's going on?” Kakashi asked. The sensei gently moved him to a tree and had him sit down against it. The girl, Sakura, moved forward, and after examining him for a second or two she uncovered his arm. Kakashi raised an eyebrow as Naruto and Sakura winced.
“Y-You're arm is broken!” Sakura exclaimed. Sasuke blinked at her blearily.
“Uh… y-yes,” Sasuke managed. “It… it is.” She picked up his arm gingerly and began to look over it with a solemn expression. “I need to set it, and then apply some medical jutsu. It's a bad break. Why didn't you say something earlier, stupid?” she demanded. Sasuke blinked at her again.
“S-Sorry. Today has been… rather trying,” he muttered.
“Yeah, sure seems like it,” Naruto muttered. “We should make camp, the sun’s setting anyway and it's dangerous to go down these roads in the middle of the night,” he glanced at Kakashi who sighed and nodded his ascent.
“Hate to admit it, but you're right. Sai, come on, let's go find a clearing.” Sasuke looked over at Sakura, the pink haired girl. Her eyes were clouded with worry, concern. He didn't understand it. He didn't know her. Why was she… Sakura sighed and put a hand to his forehead.
“Sleep, okay?” she breathed. “You look exhausted, and it won't do the healing process any favors if you try to stay awake. Just rest, you're safe now.” You're safe now. It had been so long since anybody had said that to him. He didn't know if he liked it. He wasn't safe. Sasuke… was never safe. He had never been safe, never would be. But then chakra flowed from her fingertips, and he was lulled into… something. His eyes closed. Consciousness slipped through his fingers like sand.
When Sasuke woke up, he was more tired than he had been in a long time. His periods of rest were typically dreamless and seemingly endless, unless they were plagued by nightmares that left him screaming for help and tasting blood. This time, he woke up slowly, almost… gently. He woke up to a forest ceiling made of leaves belonging to trees he had never seen before. He sat up slowly, not wanting to strain himself.
“You're awake, teme!” Sasuke blinked and looked to his right, just to find a very enthusiastic Naruto looking back at him. He frowned and his answer was instinctive.
“Of course I am, dobe.” Naruto only grinned more. He looked like he did when they met all those years ago. That pale kid, Sai, walked over.
“Hello,” he called, and Naruto turned to look at him.
“Sasuke’s awake!” Kakashi walked over too, surveying all of them.
“Yes, it appears that's the case,” he mused. “I hate to say this Sasuke, but you should probably try to go back to sleep. These idiots only have a few more hours of sleep left before we have to head out.” Sasuke only nodded. If there was one thing he was familiar with, it was weird sleep schedules. He was used to waking up at the crack of dawn or the middle of the night at the drop of a hat. That's just how he’d lived and had to live. He suspected that these ninjas must have lived a similar way. It certainly seemed that way. He had to fight the waves of rage that crept into his chest at seeing their headbands. Leaf soldiers. They were leaf soldiers. In any other circumstances he would slit all of their throats and run, but he needed them. And besides, he didn't know if he’d ever be able to do that to Naruto. Ever. It was disturbing, how averse he was to hurting this Konoha dog. It didn't feel right. He only nodded at Kakashi’s instruction and laid his head back down on the bedroll, frowning.
“What… where did you get this extra bed roll?”
“It's mine! I let you sleep in it,” Naruto chimed in. Sasuke blinked at him.
“And… why did you do that?” Naruto rolled his eyes.
“Uh, you were injured. You obviously need it more than me.” Sasuke couldn't help but smile.
“That's… thank you.” He rolled over and froze after a moment. He sat up again. “Where’s- where’s my sword?” Naruto frowned and went rummaging on the other side of his sleeping area. He produced the chokuto, scabbard and all. Sasuke breathed a sigh of relief.
“Geeze, all that for a blade?” Naruto muttered. After a few seconds of looking at it, he asked another question. “Why’s it so important?”
“I made it myself. Forged it with some help. It's called Kusanagi.”
“That's a cool name.” Sasuke closed his eyes and laid down.
“It means grass cutter.” He mumbled, thinking of old stories his brother used to tell him in the dead of night. “There’s a whole story about it. Once there was an old god who roamed the plains of earth. He met some younger gods when they told him about a giant snake that terrorized them and kept eating their daughters. They offered their daughter’s hand in marriage if he could defeat the snake. When he did, he found out that there was a sword embedded in the snake's tail, a sword that could control the wind. He used it to ward off flames rising in the dry grass plains, that's why it was called grass cutter.”
“Wow,” Naruto muttered. “That's a cool story.”
“Mhm,” Sasuke mumbled back. “It was one of my favorites.” They both nodded off soon after, and Sasuke fell asleep oddly well for being with the enemy. Better then usual, anyway.

Can I die with just you around? SNS One-shot fanfiction.
Sasuke’s body felt cold. Too cold. So cold it felt hot. Everything became increasingly numb. This was not a feeling he hadn’t felt before. He had been here before multiple times…but for some reason, this time felt like it would be the last.
He glanced around from his stationary position lying on the ground. He was alone, for the moment. He breathed a sigh of relief. He kind of wanted his last moments on this earth to be peaceful, and by himself. He didn’t want to spend the last seconds of this lifetime worrying about someone else.
But it wouldn’t be that easy. Even with no one around, his thoughts were clouded with worry of how certain people would react. Certain people… yes. Specifically one person.
“Sasuke?!” Speak of the devil.
“What the fuck happened?!” Naruto dropped down next to him onto the rock beneath them.
He didn’t have the energy to explain. He stumbled Otsutsuki he had never came in contact with before. He wasn’t going to let him get away easily. Maybe it wasn’t in his best judgement, but he thought he could take him. Turns out that didn’t go as planned. Naruto must have sensed his chakra and also realized how drained it was. “Otsutsuki…” was all he muttered. Naruto’s eyes widened.
“Where the hell are they?” His eyes were already red with anger.
“If I couldn’t take him down alone then neither can you.” Sasuke murmured.
Naruto scoffed. “Don’t underestimate me. Especially not right now.” He looked into Sasuke’s eyes.
“He’s already gone. We’ll have to get him another time.” ‘We’ll’ … as if he would be contributing in the future. Naruto was still noticeably angry, but the red faded from his eyes; back to his normal blue.
“We need to get you somewhere to be healed. Sakura and Sarada would be devastated if anything happened-“
“What about you?” Sasuke looked up at him.
“What about me? I’m fine,”
“How would you feel if I died?” Sasuke managed to get out.
There was a deafening silence between them.
“I…” Naruto paused. He didn’t know how to put how he would feel into words.
Sasuke just smiled. It wasn’t a moment that passed before he coughed up a large amount of blood. Naruto picked him up to carry him to safety.
“Naruto… I can tell this is it for me.”
Naruto gave him a panicked look. “I don’t give a shit what you think Sasuke.”
As fast as lightening he got them to a medical team.
Just as fast as they started trying to heal Sasuke, they realized it would be a waste. “We’re sorry, I’m not sure there’s anything we can do at this point.” A medical-nin explained to Naruto. Sasuke looked over to see all the color fade from Naruto’s complexion.
“What the hell do you mean you- fine! If you people don’t want to make the effort, I’ll fucking heal him!” Naruto pushed them out of the way and started pouring his yellow-orange chakra out of his body in hopes to heal Sasuke. Everyone else left the area sighing. Sasuke continue to cough up blood.
“Naruto…” he mumbled, “I told you it’d be a waste…”
Sasuke knew how he felt. He knew that this was the last time he’d feel such a way. He stared up into Naruto’s bright blue eyes and longed for another day he could spend with him. He watched as those eyes welled up with tears. “I have to get Sakura and Sa-“ Sasuke interrupted- “Can I die with just you around? I don’t want everyone I love watching me while I…” Naruto already had tears running down his face, even though he wasn’t making a sound. They dripped down onto Sasuke’s face. “…Okay.” he replied softly.
“Remember when we were kids and I thought I was going to die on our first C-rank mission?” Sasuke mustered a chuckle.
“…Yes. Because you protected me. Like a dumbass.”Naruto replied, and then sniffled a little.
“Shut up, idiot.” He smiled. He could tell Naruto was trying to keep from starting to sob.
“You can’t die Sasuke. You can’t. Please.”
Sasuke coughed. “I’m not sure it’s that easy Naruto, I can’t just decide not to.” He smirked.
Naruto glared at him, with care in his eyes. “You should be serious right now like you usually are.” Naruto stated.
“I’m glad you’ll be the last person I see.” Sasuke let slip out. Hm. He pondered, that maybe that would have been something to keep to himself.
Naruto’s eyes widened. He didn’t know what he meant, but he knew that he wanted to let Sasuke express anything he needed to. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“Sakura and Sarada would probably be panicking and not know what to do right now. I’m glad you’re letting me go.”
“I’m not letting you go!” Naruto yelled. He had kept his feelings bottled in long enough. “Not willingly…” He started using his chakra on Sasuke again.
“Why are you wasting your chakra on me?”
“I have plenty of it Sasuke, don’t worry about me wasting it.” Naruto gritted his teeth. “I can’t let you die. I wouldn’t be able to face Sakura and your daughter.”
Sasuke’s eyes started to flutter. He continued to keep his focus on Naruto’s eyes. They made him feel calmer. “It’s okay, you know.”
“No it isn’t.” Naruto still had tears rolling down his face. Sasuke took what little strength he had and lifted his hand up to Naruto’s cheek. He wiped away a tear with his thumb, before his arm fell back down to his side abruptly.
Naruto, once again, didn’t know what to make of this action. Why was Sasuke acting so unusual? Did he really think he was going to die?
Sasuke closed his eyes. Naruto started yelling at him to stay awake and look at him. “Shh,” Sasuke hushed him, and Naruto quieted. Maybe this was actually it. He felt a horrible sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. “Please, please don’t go.” Naruto choked out in desperation.
Sasuke was feeling progressively weaker and more numb. His vision was blurry when he opened his eyes once again to peer at Naruto. Sasuke chuckled quietly. “Don’t be so sad. You know our bond is too strong to be broken by something as insignificant as death.” Naruto raised his eyebrows. “What is that even supposed to mean, Sasuke?”
“It means we’re connected forever. I can’t even escape how annoying you are when I’m dead.”
“How can you be so sure of that?” Naruto asked, a puzzled expression on his face.
Sasuke managed to lift his hand up again. This time he set his hand on the back of Naruto’s hair. It felt soft. “I have a feeling.” Sasuke whispered. He began to slowly pull Naruto’s face down closer to his. “Wh-what are you doing?” Naruto couldn’t piece together in his head what was currently going on. So many things at once, all more overwhelming than the next. “Stop asking so many questions, idiot.” Sasuke was so close now that Naruto could feel his breath on his face as he whispered. They were both staring directly into each other’s eyes. Naruto wide eyes looked at Sasuke’s pitch black iris and rinnegan. “What are you doing…?” Naruto asked again, in a whisper. His heart was racing faster than it ever had before. Sasuke pulled Naruto’s face down even more and closed his eyes. Naruto’s stayed wide open as his gaze shifted to Sasuke’s lips, that were getting increasingly closer to his.
Time seemed to stand still.
Sasuke breathlessly pressed his lips against Naruto’s. They were soft too, just like his hair. Both brought him comfort. Naruto realized what was happening, but let himself close his eyes rather than staying startled. He leaned into their kiss. He brought his hand up and laid it on Sasuke’s chest as they continued to press at each other’s lips. Sasuke’s lips both around Naruto’s bottom lip. They were breathing each other in. Naruto could taste blood. Both of their hearts were beating out of their chest, despite Sasuke’s being on the brink of stopping. Naruto broke from the passionate kiss. “What are you doing?” He asked for a third time, out of breath. Sasuke rolled his eyes and then caught Naruto’s gaze in his. “Please Sasuke, I don’t understand what the fuck is going on.” Naruto was blinking rapidly and he kept glancing at Sasuke’s lips.
“I love you Naruto.” Sasuke chuckled and coughed at the same time.
“B-but Saku-“ Naruto was so caught up in the moment that he seemed to forget he had his own wife and family. But that was the last thing on his mind at the moment.
“I’m sorry.” Sasuke interrupted. He did genuinely feel bad. But he was dying. He should be allowed to finally be honest for once. “I’m sorry I lied.”
Naruto’s face went pale and his pupils dilated. “About what?” Naruto asked, already knowing the answer. “Nevermind.” Sasuke smiled up at him. “Why?” Naruto asked.
Sasuke couldn’t help but lightly laugh again. “You like to ask why I do things whenever I’m dying don’t you?” Naruto frowned. “You didn’t expect me to have you drop your life all for me do you? You were already with Hinata. How was I supposed to say anything to you?” Naruto felt a lump in his throat and that feeling in his stomach came back. He swallowed roughly.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?!” Naruto was starting to get worked up again. He once again had tears running down his face. “Sasuke, why?!” Sasuke flinched at the spit coming from Naruto’s mouth because of him screaming.
“I love you too, you piece of shit!” Naruto cried out. He slapped his hand over his mouth. He couldn’t believe he actually admitted that after so many years. “How the fuck am I supposed to keep living without you knowing that now?!” Naruto crashed his mouth into Sasuke’s again desperately, lips wet with his own tears. Sasuke kissed him back, and lightly slipped his tongue between Naruto’s soft lips. He just wanted to feel closer to him in these moments. Naruto broke from the kiss again. “God dammit!” He screamed. “You can’t die, especially now!”
“Wouldn’t it be better now that I’ve told you the truth that I go peacefully? How am we supposed to go on after admitting these things to each other?” He paused. “Why didn’t you tell me either?” Sasuke’s eyes pierced through Naruto.
“Because I… because I thought there was no way that was a possibility.” Naruto muttered. “That there was any chance that we could be together like that. So I moved on.”
“How long have you loved me?” Sasuke asked Naruto sweetly, but his voice was rough. Naruto felt as though he deserved an answer. “Since we were kids.” Naruto replied. They both stayed silent, and just looked at each other. “Kiss me again.” Sasuke said after another moment. Naruto hesitated, but slowly leaned in to connect their lips again. Sasuke’s mouth became increasingly cold. Naruto started to panic, and pulled away. “Please don’t leave me.” Naruto continued to plead, as if Sasuke had a choice in the matter. “I love you so much, please Sasuke. We can figure something out, we can be together, just don-“
Sasuke coughed up more blood than he had prior. It just kept coming. Naruto was starting to pour sweat and his heart was racing more than it ever had in his life. Naruto put his finger to Sasuke’s neck to check his pulse. He contemplated running out to get another medical-nin to see if there was ANYTHING they could do. He didn’t care what it was. But as soon as he started to turn away, Sasuke reached out and grabbed his arm. Naruto turned back, looking at the horrifying sight of Sasuke with blood coming from both corners of his mouth. “Please let me get someone!” Naruto begged. “They already…” Sasuke was out of breath almost entirely now, he struggled to complete a sentence. “They already said they can’t do anything.” He managed.
“I can’t let you just die though Sasuke! Please let me try-“
“Stay with me please, Naruto.” He huffed. “I want you to be the only person around me right now.” Sasuke let his eyes fall closed. Naruto’s heart hadn’t stopped racing this whole time. He began to cry again. Sob, actually. He couldn’t contain it anymore or act calm. Naruto lifted his hand up to Sasuke’s hair and ran his fingers through it, combing it back off his forehead. Sasuke was covered in sweat. “Fuck,” Naruto spoke in an exasperated tone, “I’ve always loved you.” He planted a gentle kiss on Sasuke’s forehead and kept petting his hair. “I’ve always loved you too, Naruto.” Sasuke replied in the softest whisper. He couldn’t manage to reply any louder.
Naruto put his fingers back on Sasuke’s neck to check his pulse. “Now don’t come joining me too fast, Naruto…I’ll beat your ass in the afterlife, idiot.” Sasuke mumbled, and smiled. He had his eyes closed.
“Don’t say shit like that.” Naruto insisted. He couldn’t believe what was happening. “Please, Sasuke I-“
Naruto’s heart fell to his feet. His eyes started to pool with tears instantaneously and he felt his knees get weak, like he was going to collapse.
Sasuke’s pulse had stopped. “Sasuke?” Naruto’s eyes widened, “Sasuke?!” He started to shake him. He ran outside of the room and started screaming for anyone to help him. He thought to finally alert Sakura, she had kept him alive before after his pulse stopped, certainly she could do the same now? “Anyone, PLEASE! PLEASE HELP!”
“Hokage-sama, wha-“ Naruto grabbed the medical-ninja’s arm and ran him over to Sasuke. “HIS PULSE STOPPED, DO SOMETHING!” Naruto knew he had a position of power, and that he probably was supposed to be calm during this, but he couldn’t be. “I’ll have Sakura alerted immediately. Please in the mean-time continue to use your chakra on his heart.” Naruto tried to calm himself, and once again his golden chakra flowed over Sasuke’s chest. The medical-ninja left the room, and Naruto started to weep. He couldn’t help it. While still keeping his hand over Sasuke’s chest, he leaned down again, kissing Sasuke’s cold, lifeless cheek. “I love you, please wake up.” Naruto whimpered. Sakura bolted through the door.
Sasuke was gone.

Note
you've mentioned and posted about shipping sasosaku a few times and i was just wondering what your thoughts are on the ship and what it is that you like about it? they're my two fave naruto characters so i love reading literally anything about either of them either alone or as a duo.
Hmm okay yes. So I have done a bit of meta on Sasori ships in general, which includes a section on SasoSaku. (oh fuck did i write a shipping manifesto? who am i??)
So, I'll be honest, the main reason I ship SasoSaku is that I like all the Sakura/Akatsuki pairings. I just like the idea of a pretty missing-nin watching Sakura beat the shit out of something and going: oh no... she's cute... I like this dynamic because Sakura spends a lot of time wanting to be a generically beautiful and kind and vaguely domestic heroine but she's just not. She's a healer, yes, but she's got a violent streak a mile wide and deserves to have someone who likes the ugly parts of her.
That being said! I don't think Sasori would be the type to watch Sakura clobber someone and fall in love (that's the DeiSaku mood :P). I do think Sasori is a very obsessive person and he's the type that could very easily get fixated on someone like Sakura, who is plain and not all that outwardly special and not from a fancy clan, and kicked Sasori's ass anyway. She went up against his favorite poison and won, twice. She definitely has the sort of anatomical knowledge (& ability to manipulate the human body) and chakra control that could give Sasori's own expertise a run for his money. I can see him becoming obsessed with her very easily.... which isn't a healthy way to start a ship, but any Sasori ship is going to be kind of fucked up.
I struggle more with why Sakura might be into Sasori. In a modern AU, or an extreme canon divergence where Sasori isn't making people into puppets and they meet on friendly terms, I think Sakura might be turned off by his grumpy personality but (regrettably) into that he's 1) pretty, and 2) wicked smart and capable of keeping up with her in conversation. Even the ones where she lapses into medical jargon. And since Sakura is a brainy sort of person, I can see a modern!AU Sakura being sort of into art? Like, in a casual way that normal people are.... so hearing Sasori talk about it as they warm up to each other is like. Compelling to her.
In a more canon-adjacent AU, I think it would take a lot of work and development to make this ship work, but in a way that would be really fun and satisfying to do? So on the one hand: if Sasori becomes obsessed with her, he's going to want to crack her open and look at all her inner workings and make her into a puppet to admire forever. That's just how he appreciates/understands people. And obviously if you want a requited ship, we don't want that to happen. So for Sasori, he has to learn to appreciate Sakura as a person he can go to for conversation and company and advice, and not an object to dissect. "Develop Sasori into someone who likes another human" is, IMHO, step 1 for basically every Sasori ship. XD
On Sakura's end, I never really got the impression ninja education + work includes much about the arts, so I think she'd have to learn to appreciate Sasori as an artist. Like maybe she starts with admiration of his puppetry as a technical skill, but it does have to evolve into her getting the corpse-puppet thing as art, not just a weird application of medical knowledge and admirable weaponry. Art is the most important thing to Sasori, so it's important Sakura be willing (and ideally enthusiastic) to engage with it and be supportive.
But!! Once you've developed them so they're not going to kill each other, I think there's high potential they'd like each other's company! They have a lot of overlapping skills/interests but with very different applications, so I think they could both respect the other and also be interested in each other's lives. Sakura can show Sasori new techniques to repair flesh and bone for his puppets (SO annoying when one breaks and he has to go get a bunch of new femurs), and Sasori can teach her puppet strings. They can talk about their favorite diseases. Sakura can complain about the worst types of poisons for a medic to deal with while Sasori takes notes for his next poison invention. It'd be cute.

Some hella messy doodles for the shippuden designs! Excuse the every changing details because I am never truly happy with final designs dear lord-
I’ve got design notes! Long wall of words belooowww
Starting with Naruto once again!
his clothes are based off of several unfinished ideas I had of Uzushio and how their proficiency with seals would allow them to be more flamboyant or lighter in their gear. The magic of storage and protective seals!
there are seals embroidered into the inner lining and occasionally the exterior, acting as both armor and pack. Uzushio always seemed like a rather bright place, connected to the sea, so I made the robes generally blue themed but also darker as they are still shinobi in the end and bright colors are harder to hide.
I added a hood because Naruto just,,,, he has modern streetwear vibes. He’d love hoodies
The whole Uzushio inspired ensemble is cause I was thinking that in this au he finds the opportunity to find and visit the island itself. Probably during the time skip, considering it’s hard to really place the discovery of a long lost village within the six-month period between graduation and the chunnin exams
At first I wanted to give him like a mesh crop top to show his seal but then it kinda didn’t have that traditional vibe that I wanted, so I added the kimono top and a red obi with symbols that kinda symbolize the seal (because Naruto connects with Kurama much earlier in this AU)
The headband was honestly ridiculously tricky to place because i was trying to draw this longer hair without making it poof weirdly at the top. Plus I wanted to keep the headband where it was cause,,, cause i was thinking when he goes into tailed beast mode the ribbons flare up to look like Kurama’s ears :”DDD peek design amiright-
his hair. is longer. because i love long hair Naruto to bits and it makes him look like his parents ;;; both of them
the gloves. I have no excuse. They just Look Cool
Sakura:
I gave her an undercut
she deserves it
I didn’t mention this in the other redesign post but she has dimples (though i’m really bad at drawing them
that one scene where she tied up her hair in the Kazekage Rescue Arc was so fucking beautiful I couldn’t resist throwing it in here lmaoooo
i can’t draw it right but imagine the ponytail kinda flowering out like a sakura blossom
I took a lot of different things I liked about the older!Sakura designs and smooshed them in one with my own twist
like sleeveless qipao
Belt from pre-timeskip period stays, except now with an extra medical supply bag
longer pants cause they look nice
Sasuke:
honestly I like his normal shippuden design a lot so i kept most of it
I added a cape though, cause he does travel around a bit
and as i was drawing him the collar reverted to a similar shape to his kid clothes
fun fact
the reason that his outfit remains largely the same is because
Sasuke does leave
the action itself doesn’t change, but the circumstances and the ensuing effects do. quite a bit, actually.
and no it does not take the entirety of shippuden to get him back
because he is not a revenge obsessed angry kid here
the biggest reason for all this change is cause I want to change Orochimaru cause i wanna make him live purely because I love mitsuki so fucking much
also i gave him a little half ponytail cause i wanted to give him longer hair but then realized that idk how to draw that and make it look good sO new style boyos
Kakashi? what are you doing here?:
I wanted to change up Kakashi’s look as well because it’s actually really fun to design these outfits no matter difficult it may be bUT it was difficult because I just... can’t see him without a vest.
Not that i can’t see him without wearing a vest, because i have and it’s good and I like it, but i can’t see him going into battle or on missions without one.
I’ve got this headcannon that the vest is lowkey like a security blanket and it’s this grounding weight whenever he’s in this adrenaline filled situation where he may suffer many varieties of consequences if he’s not careful. It has his tools and it’s his armor. Replacing it with a robe feels like robbing him of something he’s always had and is always used to
SO
he keeps a vest
i modified it a bit to make it more right hand sided (i may headcannon Kakashi to be ambidextrous but there’s no denying he uses his right hand more) and the collar to be a bit thinner
Kakashi is like, made for biker fashion. like leather or denim jackets on motorbikes. So I gave him a haori that emulates that look
Naruto came back, saw that Kakashi didn’t change at ALL and took it as a personal offense and dragged him around to get new threads because “Kakashi-sensei, we all upgraded our closet, you should too!”
kind of a sad headcannon that Kakashi didn’t quite let himself enjoy things that wouldn’t benefit him as a ninja and therefore just stuck to his normal outfit of ninja clothes and jonin vest. Icha Icha was the one exception and he picked it up because he had no idea what to do once he was out of ANBU (i would like to back this hc up by pointing to Boruto where Kakashi no longer really holds himself to this rigid ideal of a ninja and lets loose and has fun with Gai and Mirai)
ANYWAYS
he actually likes the stuff Naruto finds for him, though he has no idea where the boy is actually finding all this shit
some misc info about the outfits:
Naruto began learning sealing after the Wave Arc, and he took to it like a fish to water. (i have uzushio spirit hc that I will tell at a later time)
a rare nugget of information he found about uzushio seals was that they were often stitched into the clothing itself
so Naruto went wild with this
he learned sealing while practicing normal embroidery on the side and as he went on his 2-3 year trip with Jiraiya he learned more and just got better and better
He added the seal to his own haori himself and actually made one for Kakashi too. Kakashi just didn’t see him whip the gift haori from one of the stitched sealing scrolls
embroidering takes a really long time and matching it with sealing? oof, hard work. So he actually only got two done and is in process of Sakura’s next. Now that he’s back in the village, he can talk to her about certain things she would want/need considering Naruto isn’t sure what a medic-nin requires.
he made additional gifts for everyone in team seven (even sasuke, even if he doesn’t know what will happen) and hopefully as time passes little trinkets will start to appear
i just really like the idea of naruto being a really craftsy person. He just keeps making small trinkets except these trinkets have sEALING POWER cause he’s very chaotic with his experiments like that

“as much as everyone says team 7 was his family’s they kinda treated him like shit. Especially Sakura. If naruto had Hinata as a supporting team member who saw him for who he is, and not as the jinchuriki or an obnoxious brat (that’s how Sakura saw him).”
Um... What??? I could make a post bringing up all the times Sakura cared but I’ll just point out the highlights.
Tumblr media
(Sakura feeling guilty for treating Naruto badly, which ended the chapter, while in the anime there was an added scene that made her retract her guilt)
Tumblr media
When Naruto stabs his hand, Sakura is the only one to voice her concern.
Tumblr media
Sakura doesn’t even think twice about jumping in to save Naruto from getting hit by Zabuza’s sword.
Tumblr media
Over time, Sakura finds herself becoming impressed by him(whether or not she admits it out loud.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura is the first one to master the Chakra control and tree climbing exercise and is able to provide Naruto with tips.
Tumblr media
Sakura keeping regulation of both Naruto and Sasuke.
Tumblr media
She finds herself inspired by him.
Tumblr media
They are a family.
Tumblr media
She looks after him when he’s reckless and gets himself hurt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura worries for Naruto and even tries to cheer him up before the written exam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura is one of the first people who supported Naruto’s dream to become Hokage, and didn’t want to see it ripped away from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two times Sakura thought Sasuke hit Naruto, she defended Naruto against Sasuke.
Tumblr media
Cheering for him.
Tumblr media
Worrying for him.
Tumblr media
Worrying for him again.
Tumblr media
Saving him.
Tumblr media
(speaking of standing up for Naruto against Sasuke)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forces herself to stay awake while Naruto and Sasuke are out cold to keep them safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this doesn’t say anything, I don’t know what does.
Tumblr media
Rooting for him.
Tumblr media
Again
Tumblr media
Encouraging him not to lose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanking Naruto for cheering her on during her fight with Ino.
Tumblr media
Cheering him on again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Believing in him at a time when most others didn’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura rooting for Naruto during the prelims.
Tumblr media
Worrying for him.
Tumblr media
Being happy that he won.
Tumblr media
Her tender smile when she finds out Naruto saved her from Gaara.
Tumblr media
Worry, because she doesn’t want to see either of her teammates fighting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her hoping that things will go back to normal.
Tumblr media
Putting her faith in Naruto, her dear friend, the person who’d overcome impossible odds.
Tumblr media
Her recalling her words about Naruto in the beginning.
Tumblr media
Thanking him.
Tumblr media
Recognizing how great of a friend Naruto was, as she has several times now.
Tumblr media
Visiting Naruto in the hospital.
Tumblr media
Feeling horrible when she sees his injuries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trying her best to alleviate his guilt.
Tumblr media
Is willing to put aside her desire to get back Sasuke, likely because she doesn’t want to put Naruto through that pressure and life threatening situation again. She doesn’t want to see him injured or pushing himself anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reflects on her own failture to stop Sasuke, and how she’d put everything on Naruto to take care of.
Tumblr media
Swears to be of help next time because she doesn’t want Naruto to go through everything alone the next time he confronted Sasuke.
Tumblr media
Immediately after goes to Tsunade to ask her to take her on as her apprentice so she would able to get stronger for BOTH of her teammates.
Tumblr media
Accepts that it’s going to be a very hard journey. Just as Sasuke trains under Orochimaru, and Naruto trains under Jiraiya, Sakura also trains under one of the Sannin. And that’s all in Part 1. Here’s Part 2(there are probably quite a few but I’m going to list the ones that come to the top of my head.
Tumblr media
noticing his smarts again
Tumblr media
They work really well together to beat kakashi :’)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finds out he has the nine tails inside of him and only reacts with Empathy, but she never thinks of him any less because of what he has inside of him.
Tumblr media
Sakura being one of the first ones to save Naruto from loneliness.
Tumblr media
This doesn’t need an explanation.
Tumblr media
Once again, no explanation needed
Tumblr media
Naruto is genuinely amazed by her skills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Naruto is going through mental anguish due to Itachi’s illusions, it’s Sakura and Chiyo who breaks him out of the genjutsu.
Tumblr media
And
Tumblr media
It’s Sakura and Kakashi who encourage Naruto to get back on his feet after this. (Actually in general Sakura is really beneficial to the team because she’s good at breaking Genjutsu due to he excellent chakra control.)
Tumblr media
Sakura once again finding herself amazed by Naruto’s abilities.
Tumblr media
Feeling sympathy for Naruto’s situation about being targeted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, THIS SCENE DOES NOT GET ENOUGH APPRECIATION. SAKURA MAKING HER HORROR AND FEAR AT THE THOUGHT OF NARUTO DYING CLEAR. Naruto is important to her, she wishes she could take away his burden, but removing the nine tails will kill him and it’s enough to make her break into tears. She’s being a genuinely good friend here.
Tumblr media
More of that.
Tumblr media
Sakura feeling bad for Naruto when he hasn’t accepted Gaara is dead yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once again, very important.
Tumblr media
This was painful in itself. When Gaara dies and Naruto feels so helpless, breaks down, you can tell just how much Sakura wants to be there for her teammate, just how bad she wants to be there for him, but she doesn’t say much of anything, because he’s already told Chiyo to shut up, and she doesn’t want to make him feel worse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some could chalk this up to a Sasuke moment, but I always saw this as a team 7 moment. Even though Sakura herself was pissed, she doesn’t want Naruto to be the target of irritation from Sai. She’s willing to take on that role for the both of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura understands quite well some of Naruto’s feelings about Sasuke
Tumblr media
yup
Tumblr media
Stands up for Naruto again
Tumblr media
feeling bad for him again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura worries for Naruto, just like she worried for Sasuke when he ended up with the curse mark. Both Yamato and Kakashi keep her out of the matters and nobody ever lets her in on anything despite her being their teammate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t get me started on this scene. This is a little like the scene where Sasuke nearly killed the Oto-nin when the curse-mark consumed him(biggest difference being that Naruto knocked her aside because he wasn’t conscious anymore. On top of Sakura not wanting to see Naruto in such a state, she feels terrible guilt over the promise he made her and the pressure it’s put on him (feels guilt yet again, a recurring thing that happens numerous times in the series). She doesn’t judge Naruto for having the nine tails inside of him. Rather, she hates that he’s been having to go through all of this and confronts him head on despite how reckless it is, because she doesn’t want to see him struggling alone like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura healing Naruto. Sakura also wishing she could do more for Naruto, even being willing to learn a new jutsu to be able to help him (would have if it wasn’t for the fact that Yamato was the only one capable of using it due to Hashirama cells.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet another great moment to show just how much Sakura cares about Naruto and wants to be able to be there for him. :’)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doesn’t want to cause Naruto any guilt or worry, so she holds back the truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh yeah, such a “terrible friend”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet again she doesn’t want to make Naruto feel bad so she doesn’t tell him that he was the one who hurt her
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which need I remind you devastates him when he finds out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘course it adds to his determination to work on controlling the nine-tails
Tumblr media
Team 7 moment
Tumblr media
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but Sakura does a good job at regulating Naruto and usually he’ll stand down if Sakura says something when he’s picking fights.
Tumblr media
This
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is important because it show cases Sakura’s desire to help Naruto get Sasuke back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some took this as a SasuSaku moment in the manga(due to the lighting and the fact that Sakura and Sasuke are the only two that look at the photo in the manga), but this could also be taken as a Team 7 moment, since Sakura(who more than anything wanted to “get stronger together” had been basically told by Kakashi that his priority was Naruto since Naruto was the only one the training applied to.
(then again, Naruto himself right after was thinking about Sasuke so hard to say, but I think it could qualify as team 7, about Naruto’s and Sakura’s desire to save Sasuke, and Sakura’s desire to do something to help Naruto achieve their goal together, about her feeling helpless right then.)
Tumblr media
Has faith in him to fight Kakuzu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That
Tumblr media
That
Tumblr media
Having faith in him once again, when others don’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isn’t afraid to scold him if he steps out of line and is disrespectful to people who are doing everything they can as fast as they can..
Tumblr media
That isn’t to say she doesn’t understand.
Tumblr media
Roots for him again.
Tumblr media
When Sakura’s home gets obliterated in front of her, it’s Naruto she calls out for (before tending to the injured)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That
Tumblr media
Even when Sakura is depressed herself, she goes out of her way to try to cheer Naruto up.
Tumblr media
Appreciation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guilt, once again, for putting such a promise on him.
Tumblr media
There was also this. Sakura should have taken different actions, sure, but she found out about Naruto’s feelings at the worst possible time, and it wasn’t like it was out of any ill intent, she was genuinely trying to protect him, since he’d gotten hurt over and over again thanks to his devotion to Sasuke.
Tumblr media
After all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was prioritizing Naruto and was prepared to give up her feelings for Sasuke to ease Naruto’s burden.
Tumblr media
Thanks Naruto after she saves him.
Tumblr media
Stands up for Naruto against Sasuke yet again
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gratitude (and also being sorry about the poison)
Tumblr media
That
Tumblr media
The tender look she gives him
Tumblr media
Defends Naruto again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Supporting Naruto in the war
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura manually pumping Naruto’s heart, and refusing to let him give up on his dream.
Also, no offense against Hinata, but I doubt her relationship with Sasuke could be anything like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Sakura is irreplaceable because (aside from how many lives she’s saved, and how beneficial her chakra control is to the team) she’s meant to be like Tsunade (Jiraiya, Hashirama and others even compared her to Tsunade,) and they’re both medics. They’re the next young sannin.
Tumblr media
And a paralleled Team Minato/Team Hiruzen with a happy ending

what’s your interpretation of rin’s personality? i love your comics about her and it sucks that in canon she’s just Nice Girl
that's a great question, anon! and the one i've been asking myself for several years now.
first thing first: root!rin theory is an invention of @ahkaraii, and it’s the most important thing in naruto fandom.
i may be overthinking but i always thought there was something off about rin - she is not just nice girl™, she is creepily nice girl, and she is way too convenient for one certain uchiha nice girl. as i see it, writing a stereotypical love interest is not a complicated issue for a shounen author - there are a bunch of cliches and tropes that you have to combine to get such character right. rin? she is...not quite this. rin rather looks like someone who tries to be that ideal love interest (or, honestly, to be just a normal shinobi/human) but tries too hard and it spoils the impression.
if we look at rin's databook profile, we can see the formula - «kind, intellectual, devoted», and it's almost absurd that something like this is used as personality description.
what do we know from her canon appearances?
1) well, she does come off as sweet and kind, and i want to believe she was.
2) rin is quiet and reserved most of the time, and when she does speak out it's only generalized and mostly positive stuff. in childhood filler (unfortunately, it’s the only one i remember well) she also pauses before speaking or reacting in general.
3) rin often sounds way too mature for her age (plus, she must be an experienced ninja or at least well educated - in gaiden she comments on enemy's strategy and then on kakashi's usage of chakra). sometimes (mostly with obito but he totally buys it) she says things that seem kinda fake- almost like if she was taught to tell it.
i could say it’s just kishimoto’s writing but there are heroines who got little to no character development and yet still felt like, you know, human beings. rin at times seems like a completely ephemeral creature. to me, at least.
4) rin is obsessed with obito (despite narrator and then obito suggesting she was in love with kakashi). she is overwhelmingly caring - she seems to know constantly where obito is, most time she is around him (even when obito is unaware of that - i’m not sure if it was in the manga but anime has several moments like this), she is in charge of things i wouldn't consider quite normal for a childhood friend to be (like? bringing obito's documents? finding him and leading to a meeting point?). honestly, i can’t read this as simply display of friendship and affection, and i don’t see the same pattern in other relationships in the franchise. there is also an extra emphasis on the fact that rin liked kakashi both in gaiden and in war arc (as well as implementations that kakashi might have liked her back), so it’s not like kishimoto forgot about who was rin’s crush.
if i recall correctly, there is no information on how rin and obito originally meet and what was the foundation of their friendship outside of obito's aspiration to become hokage. therefore the reasoning behind rin’s obsession is unknown.
5) rin emulates obito's reactions, it's shown several times and, i would say, highlighted:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6) rin's reaction to obito's «death» seems much more reserved than kakashi's, and she quickly cuts off any visible display of her distress once obito asks to transplant his eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7) rin is clearly not afraid of fighting. she normally doesn’t engage in combat (i assume, the end of third war must have been the time of endorsing tsunade’s iryo-nin reform, thereby rin must have belonged to the generation of medics that followed hime’s rules to the core + rin is stopped from getting into combat by kakashi), however, both time rin was cornered by an enemy, she showed full readiness to fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now this is not about her personality, but:
8) rin is placed on future hokage's team, alongside the genius son of one of the strongest ninjas and the uchiha (who could actually keep up with the said genius and, as we see later, surprisingly well adjusted to hashirama cells implanted into him).
9) speaking of her abilities, rin's got a solid 4 in intelligence (among shinobi her age i can recall only shikamaru and sakura scoring 4 or higher), 3.5 in ninjutsu (shino with the same score was about to be put in the root; similar score was obtained by sasuke and neji) and 4 in hand seals, whatever that could mean. overall she's got 21 (while most of konoha11 got less than 20). impressive for a ninja coming from «a very ordinary household» [fourth databook].
10) rin is good as iryo-nin, but like...not outstandingly good, like sakura or tsunade or shizune. she carries a large rucksack (and is the only one who does that out of her team, so it's not part of common equipment) - she probably has to use more civilian methods. however, rin is able to transplant an eye with sharingan and keep its functions without any tools besides maybe her kunai; considering ophthalmology is a way too narrow specialty for a field medic and uchihas tend to keep their secrets secure, this seems pretty damn cool (and gaiden was written before eye swapping became a common thing and iryo-ninjutsu could easily heal any injury). if i don’t say suspicious. plus - rin instantly agrees to perform surgery, no second thought, no hesitation, as if she was trained to do it.
it’s also interesting that kakashi gaiden is the only part where rin is shown not from her teammates' perspective- and in gaiden she is a quiet and determined soldier who can put her duty above her feelings. when we see rin later on, mainly from obito's memories and therefore from his perspective, she is depicted as that constantly smiling and good-hearted girl most folks remember her as. it goes to the point where in the second databook rin is described as serious and capable medic-nin, while in the fourth the main focus is moved to her relationships with kakashi and obito.
i don’t want to try and get any conclusions about her personality from the circumstances of her death- i don’t believe in her voluntary death for the village, not after madara told obito about the seal.
so, what do we get from this? as i said, i've tried to sum these traits up: for a long time i pictured rin as a civilian-background girl with fascination for the shinobi world despite not quite fitting in it (which results in her overly perfected but distant behaviour). but this can’t explain her skills or her obsession with obito, and this is where the root theory comes to rescue: she then becomes a root operative, chosen by danzo for her friendship with obito + civilian background, but with personality not completely ruined by lord shimura (she probably wasn’t seen as useful enough outside the whole obito thing). the original aim of her mission was probably to keep safe and then awaken obito’s sharingan (loving the irony), not to actually steal it. rin did like (in a platonic way) obito even before the recruitment, as well as she grows to like kakashi (in a romantic way) later on, but her real, untouched by shimura and his orders personality must have remained mostly a mystery to them both.

every day i think about how nohara rin could have had so much more depth in her character
even if we were to keep the whole her being a medic-nin thing stemming from most of the girls having support roles in naruto, there STILL could have been exploration of her life. even if we didn’t rewrite her to not be existing solely to die and fuel male trauma, she had so much potential for depth that wasn’t taken because of misogynistic writing!
if we’re sticking by the idea that she had a ““normal”” life (growing up with parents with no major traumatizing events or deaths of loved ones or friends before obito) there STILL could have been major depth. this also extends to sakura as well but mainly rin considering the environment rin grew up in.
rin’s generation grew up during a war period, where the child soldier system was bolstered even further. kannabi bridge was a mission being led by a 12 year old linked to the war. this was a normal.
the average age that kids graduated from the academy was 12 years old during naruto’s generation - in comparison, children were being allowed to graduate as young as 6 (kakashi) and 9 years old (rin and obito). konoha needed more fighters, so the training process was sped up so they could go into the field faster.
even if rin grew up “normally,” the normal of konohagakure and the shinobi system was terrible already. she wasn’t “not traumatized,” because in this system there’s a baseline amount of trauma expected already - it’s just that kakashi and obito had a lot of extra trauma on top of that.
rin’s character could have been an exploration of the system’s effect on kids, and that even without major events or being an orphan, everyone is still impacted in a negative way
(continued under read more)
one thing i think about a lot when it comes to rin is that during obito’s death, she had to transplant obito’s eye into kakashi’s eye socket (and likely clean out the old, destroyed eye)
the time it takes is ridiculously short and obito is still alive by the time kakashi busts out of the rubble to kill the enemy ninja. the eye is fully functional and the amount of time it took was short enough that obito didn’t end up dying just yet despite half of his body being crushed under a boulder, and he didn’t end up bleeding out from his eye, either - the shot we get of obito post-operation, his eyelid is closed over the socket and there’s minimal mess.
this is, in short, pretty fucking amazing!
and also horrifying!
it’s likely rin, as most shinobi are encouraged to, suppress her trauma (the fact that she just got kidnapped, the fact that her friend was dying in front of her and she would have to leave him, the fact that she had to operate on him in the field) and “suck it up” so she could get things done.
it’s likely she grew up repressing things due to how kakashi and obito were absolute goddamn messes, and SOMEONE had to be put together on the team aside from their jounin leader (plus minato didn’t really know what the hell he was doing anyway) and it’s horrible that she would’ve had to do that in the first place!
her life and the things that happened before she died could have been a window into yet another person majorly affected by the shinobi system. hell, if you still wanted to use her death as a plot device in the end to fuel kakashi’s trauma or whatever, even then, before that, there was so much opportunity to explore her life and trauma.
i hate that she was used as a plot device and had little character aside from being The Girl of the group to parallel naruto’s team 7 and to be The Sakura (but Nice and Sweet). i hate that the fact that she was isobu’s jinchuuriki for a bit was shucked aside and essentially never talked about again.
but even if we didn’t rewrite her role in the plot that stemmed from misogyny, exploring nohara rin’s life and trauma could have added so many layers of depth and world building. things like seeing ways how minato interacted with the team post-obito’s death to help rin and kakashi, especially since he was also coping with losing a student who was just 12 years old.
the same applies to sakura, as someone growing up as a child soldier, but it’s especially prevalent with rin because she died before anything could be learned about her for the sake of playing a large role in obito and kakashi’s trauma.
tldr; rin could have been a lot more than she was allowed to be by the narrative and it makes me smad, also because i really love team minato as a whole

Thinking of Her
For @olliya. You're the best! Thanks for the prompt. I also used prompt: dark from FemslashFeb2020 list.

Thinking of Her
.
For two years, she'd been training under Orochimaru's tutelage. Locked underground and living in solitude, or constantly on the move, traveling in the shadows, but always away from the sun—she was literally hidden in the sound. However, she was improving her fighting capability in leaps and bounds and that was all that mattered. Soon, she'd be able to match Itachi in power.
Soon, she would have her revenge.
Sasuke didn't like to remember what her life had been like in the past, the things she'd abandoned. Any sacrifice she'd made was worth reaching her ultimate goal.
And then the past came back, knocking on her door. Two very annoying idiots with some inconsequential lackeys in tow infiltrated the Oto base. They forced the confrontation, making it impossible to avoid, so she acted. She had to end this pointless encounter swiftly.
Dealing with Naruto was easy. Getting anything into his thick skull was downright hopeless, so instead she used brute strength. Other arguments wouldn't have swayed him. At the very least, if she damaged him badly enough, it would take him some time to recover before he came after her again.
But Sasuke couldn't afford to focus only on Naruto. Sakura was also there, still dressed in bold red, still just as vivid as Sasuke remembered her. She tried not to react, not to look at her too much, but her eyes were drawn to Sakura like to a magnet. The kunoichi held back, clearly a support type. It was mentioned in the reports from Konoha that she apprenticed under Tsunade as a medic-nin. Sasuke had only read them to see if there were any news about Itachi. He could've made another move to get Kyuubi. Learning what became of her former teammates was only coincidental.
She hadn't seen any recent photos of them though, so she took this opportunity to observe their changes. Naruto was still just as orange and loud as before. Sakura kept her hair shoulder-length, but she changed her outfit style. Gone was the dress, now she donned a red zip up sleeveless shirt, showing off her toned arms. The combo of skin-tight shorts and a pink skirt over them looked quite becoming on her too as it clung to her rounded hips and backside. Sasuke's gaze flickered over Sakura's legs—they seemed to stretch on for miles in those high shinobi boots. All in all, Sasuke approved of her fashion sense and tucked in all these details into her mind, an easy task with the photographic memory granted by her Sharingan.
The encounter with Naruto and Sakura was cut short, but it lingered on Sasuke's mind long time after. Once she saw them, how much they improved and grew, it was hard not to think about them. Even when they weren't there, they still managed to annoy her. They distracted her from Itachi and that was unacceptable.
After that incident, she was reminded of them more often. She heard a boisterous laugh and immediately thought Naruto might be just around a corner; she caught a glimpse of pink hair in the corridors of the base, but when she ran, heart in throat, after that person, she found only Karin, whose red hair appeared pink in the dim, orange light of torches.
Sasuke had to stop this, shut down these thoughts. She submerged herself in more training, she reviewed that night in a genjutsu to keep her hatred fresh, hone it into a blade that would execute Itachi—anything to purge herself of weak sentimentality. She'd cut those bonds for a reason. They only stood in the way of her revenge.
But Sasuke was a sick girl by nature. She'd been cursed long before Orochimaru even came along, wanting things she shouldn't want, coveting what could never be hers. She knew these desires weren't normal, so she buried them, smothered under hatred and revenge.
However, alone in the dark of night, behind closed doors of an empty room in a distant Oto base, she allowed herself to indulge in her perversion. Sasuke closed her eyes and conjured the image of Sakura as she'd seen her the last time. Once again, she heard the soft utter of her name falling from Sakura's lush lips.
Sasuke thought of kissing those lips and traced her own mouth with a finger pad lightly. A shiver of excitement rippled over her body. She licked her lips and brushed down her chin and neck to the collarbones. She imagined Sakura was there with her, touching her so carefully. It was Sakura laying butterfly kisses down her body, Sakura who pulled down her breast band and palmed her modest chest curiously. Sasuke's nipples stiffened, exposed to the cool air in the room, and she sighed when Sakura's warm hands rolled and pinched them.
Soon, massaging her breasts wasn't enough for Sasuke as the pressure between her legs demanded attention. "Let me take care of you," Sakura said seductively and made a path over her stomach before easing one slim hand under the waistband. Sasuke made a soft sound when her lover brushed over the dark patch of hair and cupped her heated mound. She eagerly spread her legs wider, giving Sakura room to slip both hands in her underwear, while Sasuke worked down the zipper on her red shirt.
Sasuke unclasped the standard bra and bared Sakura's chest for her own viewing pleasure. The small, pert mounds bounced before her eyes and she touched and squeezed them with care. She took the pebbled pink nipples into her mouth and sucked them, making Sakura moan in her ear. It sounded like heavenly music.
Sasuke gasped in arousal when Sakura's one hand pulled her nether lips open to explore the dewy skin with the other one. The delicate touch quickly grew firmer when she brushed against Sasuke's sensitive nub. She steadily rubbed around it in circles, occasionally giving it a soft stroke that made Sasuke whimper. Wetness spilled out of her feminine opening and made her slick under the touch. The dull, empty ache inside had Sasuke buck up her hips, asking for more, and Sakura delivered.
Sasuke exhaled sharply when a finger slipped into her passage. She clenched tight around it before relaxing and accepting the intruding digit inside. It started to push in and out slowly but soon it fell into a rhythm as it rubbed over the sensitive inner walls. Sasuke rocked her hips in time with the moving finger, helping it slide deeper and reach her most pleasurable spots.
"Do you want me to make you come, Sasuke?" Sakura asked.
"Yes… ah… yesss…" Sasuke hissed her response.
Sakura kissed her again and plunged a second finger inside. Sasuke's body arched, the pressure in her core becoming unbelievable as Sakura skillfully rubbed her pulsing clit and pumped the sopping pussy. Finally, the taut coil sprang open and Sasuke let out a keening wail as she came hard all over Sakura's hand.
For a short moment she existed in a plane of perfect stillness where there was only pleasure, then she returned to the ground. Her chest was heaving with frantic pants of breath, erect nipples pointed straight up and sweaty moisture gathered in her cleavage. When the fog of orgasm lifted, Sasuke found herself alone in her room—cell—both hands buried between her legs and soaked with her own juices. The phantom Sakura was gone, her absence leaving behind a hollow ache like an old wound, and Sasuke was capable of feeling shame again. To use Sakura for something so vile, so depraved… This hellhole of a village was the only place where Sasuke deserved to be.
Slowly, she pulled her hands out of her soaked underwear, then giving into curiosity, she brought them to her lips to taste her wetness. It was salty and she thought that if this was what girls taste like, then Sakura was no different… The idea of checking it for herself, of touching, stroking, licking Sakura's pussy was just as deviant as the erotic fantasy before, but Sasuke couldn't help herself.
After she came again to the thoughts of tearing off Sakura's shorts and burying her tongue in her, Sasuke closed her eyes drowsily. After finally quenching that twisted desire that burned low in her gut, she was sure to have a good night's rest. She felt lazy and sated as she drifted off into a deep slumber.
Unbeknownst to Sasuke, back in Konoha, in the privacy of her own dark bedroom, Sakura was also thinking of her. Since they'd met again in the Oto base, Sasuke had been constantly on her mind. The rogue Uchiha had appeared to Sakura so grown up and hauntingly beautiful, as cold and pure as snow on the high mountain peaks and just as unapproachable. Sakura knew what had happened prior to her arrival from Sai's report from that mission and she couldn't help but wonder.
In her imagination, she was the one who found Sasuke first, laying in the dark room, red Sharingan eyes glowing with menace before she swiftly sat up and switched on a lamp on the nightstand. Her alabaster skin glowed softly in the intimate light.
"What are you doing here?" she asked with a warning in her tone.
But Sakura approached the bed undeterred.
"I'm here for you. I missed you so, so much. Please, come back with me to Konoha," she asked, putting all her heart into this simple request.
Sasuke smirked coldly at her.
"Why should I? Convince me," she demanded and oh, did Sakura convince her.
In her bed, Sakura touched herself to the fantasy of kissing Sasuke on those smug, soft lips until they were both dizzy and short of breath, of falling down together in a tangle of limbs, of worshipping her body, honed like a blade and just as dangerous, of bringing her pleasure so great that Sasuke had no other choice than to agree to return home.
Sakura came with a ragged groan into a pillow. She slumped on her stomach, the quakes in her body slowly subsiding as she relaxed in repose. If only changing Sasuke's mind was that easy, she'd have done it in a heartbeat.
A tear slid down Sakura's porcelain cheek, glittering like silver in the moonlight. The kunoichi fell asleep, unaware just how closely her and Sasuke's feelings were connected in that moment.

Rinne-Whoops: Who died and dragged you back out?
Continued from here:
@minaa-munch @senjutsunade
Sallow digits flexed within the depths of his pockets as he waited for the man to answer, bi-coloured hues rapt in the way that they fixed upon the rising and falling of the man’s chest, upon the swelling and contracting of his ribcage, as if staring at the /impossible/. A silence wafted over the cavern, broken only by raspy, impossible breaths; though no answer came to put an end to the Hatake’s tumulus thoughts and when those blue eyes closed, pale skin crumpling between his brows; Kakashi took a step back, shoulder stooping forward as if in defeat.
It was as he thought, the man was in no position to comprehend his words, much less answer his questions. It made his work all the harder and considering the fact that Danzō-sama could return from the Fire Capital (all smug and conquering) at any given moment, have all of his soldiers gather the Leaf for a warm welcome; Kakashi could really do with a small (he’d take miniscule, really) miracle. As if heard by the resident Kami (whom thought that exact moment a good time to wake from its protracted nap) the steady thuds of approaching sandals caught the Jōnin’s attention and dragged his stare to the mouth of the corridor. Kotesu was the first to enter, his bandaged nose and cheeks flushed and his inky-spikes more errant than when he left. “G-Gomen na Senpai…It took a while to find a trustworthy medic-nin not actually holed up in a triage…”
At the rise of Kakashi’s questioning brow, the Chūnin’s dark orbs rolled, arms rising as if to ward of a shrug. “Ano…I couldn’t go to Shizune-san, as we still haven’t found Tsunade-sama’s personal files…also I doubt she or Sakura would be willing to leave the Godaime’s side…considering…” He trailed off for a minute, gaze turning solemn at the thought of the unconscious Sannin, afore his gaze caught sight of the corner of the stone sarcophagi and his thoughts were lugged back onto their tracks. “…Yeah…uh…apparently there’s also been an increase in construction injuries with people’s haste to get the village back into shape, before the Rokudaime Candidate’s arrival…nothing serious…demo, it’s been keeping the Iryō-nin busy.”
A low sigh followed the Chūnin’s words, before Kakashi angled his head to peer over Kotetsu’s shoulder with a single, grey hue…the other lid closed in an attempt to ward off the further lapping at his reserves. “I see...Who did you bring? I don’t exactly note a medic, Kotetsu…lest your medic is another ghost.”
Really Kakashi couldn’t handle any more of those.
The Chūnin had the good graces to splutter, neck twisting around to follow the Hatake’s leaden stare. “Iie…no ghosts, Senpai, honest. I think she’s just taking her time lingering in the passageway…Uhm Hakui-chan?”
Kakashi watched as a mop of brown strands peeked around the corner, before a Kunōichi meandered into the ante-chamber, dressed in standard issue blues and a Chūnin vest. Kakashi thought he might have seen her with Yugaō at one point or another and inclined his head when her brown orbs met his own. “Aa…Hakui, was it? I don’t know what Kotetsu said to get you here; but we need your skills as a medic. Also, Hakui-san, you won’t be able to tell anyone that we enlisted your help, or for what, it’s really important that you agree to this, yeah?” She seemed dubious as she closed the distance between them, russet pools flittering about the ante-chamber, before settling back on the lanky form of the Jōnin “…I won’t do anything illegal…” Wary expression turned more pronounced at the Hatake’s cautious sniff, before she finally glanced over the brim of carved rock.
“Maa, maa...It’s nothing like that, rather, I need you to take a look at him and tell me if it’s safe to move him.” The Kunōichi in question’s limbs seemed to have locked into place, the smidgeon of colour present within her visage, drained, before an impromptu tilt of the blonde’s head sent her all but reeling back and into an approaching Izumo.“None of the others are awake, I checked all of them twice, Senp—Oof!”
Kakashi inhaled a long breath, intent to placate the brown-haired woman as best he could, when a string of croaky whispers oozed from the stone cist, leaving the Hatake muddled for all of half a second until he recalled his prior questions, the ones he thought the man didn’t comprehend, couldn’t answer. The cerulean hues peering up at him seemed less fuddled than before, though they were abounded in obvious anguish, coupled with a few contractions along a stodgy arm that caused the Fūin trappings to light up in response. One jolt turned into many, as tremors started to undulate within the man’s form, his breaths uneven and too shallow to provide near enough oxygen.
Without a second thought the Jōnin was leaning up against the rock, palm pressing against the heaving chest (That was…Definitely…a Heartbeat) in an attempt to halt any further ventures at movement. “Hey…Hey…You need to stop.” Kakashi wouldn’t normally get this close. Not only was the man an 'unknown' (Yeah right baka. Not with that chakra, that seal, and with the man having confirmed his identity a few twitches earlier) but he was also afraid that one touch could break the body and turn it into a million, dust-speckled particles, without the prior approval of one trained Shinobi. The Kage had been dead for sixteen years (was supposed to still be dead-what the fuck) and Kakashi couldn’t be sure if the heart pumping beneath his palm, or the tributary of contrasting chakras visible to Obito’s hue, could be a permanent thing; a miracle or the spiteful vendetta of an enemy-nin. He had to be prudent, but the inky lettering splayed across the wax-swathed linen had other ideas and pushed forward like an angry forest fire, urged on by every halted attempt at movement, until the formulae tightened its grip in a semblance of Sunagakure’s Nunōshibari Jutsu; dragging the air from the blonde’s lungs that the Hatake had tried to preserve.
Mattakū. Precautious wasn’t working, was it?
A focussed surge of chakra was sent into the Ancient Kanji in order to over-power its strongbox effects; uncaring of the anxious Chūnin and now Iryō-nin hovering some paces behind (just about ready to flee the premises) afore Kakashi’s fingerstips gravitated from the former Kage’s chest toward his shoulders to clamp down.
“Minato-sensei…I’m not dead…you’re not dead…so you need to take a breath.”

[ @sasuhinamonth || SasuHina Month 2019 || Day Three: Post-War ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
There’s been chaos in the aftermath.
For Sasuke’s actions as a missing nin, and after the final battle with Kaguya, he was placed under a temporary arrest while the village debated what to do with him. He’d aided Konoha’s enemies...but also saved their world. He’s a criminal under village law...but there’s also only one person strong enough to actually enforce said laws upon him.
In the end...he’s released. And for a time, he leaves entirely. He has too much to think about. In regards to himself, his actions, his wants, his bonds...and he can’t think with everyone and everything so close, so stifling.
...and then he gets a troubling note from Sakura. One demanding he return immediately, that something requires his attention...but she doesn’t elaborate what.
That what, as it turns out...is a revived brother.
And suddenly, several new cans of worms are opened. The council knows the truth. His team knows the truth. But everyone else…? The rest of the world knows Uchiha Itachi as a mass murderer and traitor. How to go about clearing his name…
Lucky for them, however...his reviver and sweetheart has connections: namely to the Hyūga clan. Having been one of the medics that saved Hinata’s life not once, but twice...and used Neji’s revival as a test before Itachi’s, they owe her quite a debt.
So, they hatch a plot: entrust the truth to the Hyūga, and have them set an example for the other clans as the Uchiha confront the council about the truth behind the massacre. If the Hyūga remain calm and collected, surely the other clans will follow suit. Hiruzen’s administration sanctioned clan genocide...any clan head worth their salt would immediately call into question the chance of it happening again: of any dissent being met with another wiping of a bloodline.
But neither Tsunade nor Kakashi are Hiruzen. And the Rokudaime is keen to clear out the clutter as it is. So, with the Hyūga on board and Sasuke’s classmates made privy to help keep their own clans calm...they demand public admission of the council’s crimes against the Uchiha. And the declaration of Itachi’s innocence as not the brains behind the massacre...but simply the tool wielded by a corrupt council.
It all goes off as planned. Koharu and Homura are stripped of all their power, ousted from office, and Itachi is formally pardoned by Kakashi during his Hokage inaugural address.
...but not everyone is so ready to forgive.
With their role in the whole affair, the Hyūga then make an...interesting proposition. To declare themselves allies to the Uchiha. Hanabi, as advised by her clan, extends the invitation, offering protection of numbers to the tiny remnants of the once-mighty Uchiha...hoping that it might stave off naysayers from acting against them.
Sasuke, ever prideful, insists he’s powerful enough to protect them as Itachi recovers, and his niece and nephew are young and vulnerable. But his brother gently counsels that, overall, it’s a wise move. It will tie them politically, and may result in some...crossed wires, but in the end, they need the bolstering such an arrangement would give.
...so, he begrudgingly agrees.
Suddenly, after a lifetime of never saying a word to her, Sasuke finds himself running into Hinata at a growing rate. With the alliance in place, her friendship with Itachi’s wife, and the pair of them becoming third and fourth wheels to a newly-paired Naruto and Sakura...a post-war Konoha shoe horns Sasuke into a friendship he never intended, nor imagined.
...and yet...the more he gets to know her...the more he realizes what he’s been missing.
Hinata is one of the few of his classmates he left without any true opinion on. Unlike his team, and others who dogged him, he had no reason to harbor any distaste with her. A clean slate, then, gives her an edge as he tries (at his family’s behest) to ease back into life in the village. Her quiet, unobtrusive nature fits perfectly with his. She doesn’t feel the need to fill every silence with blabber. She doesn’t intrude upon his person. She just...spends time with him, making conversation only politely, and openly. There’s no digging into his past, there’s no speculating about his behavior. While the others walk on eggshells as though he might revert any moment, she just...treats him normally. No prejudice, no expectations. Just...simple acceptance.
He comes to appreciate that more than he first realizes.
They become fast friends, meshing almost spookily well. As Hinata recovers from a broken heart, Sasuke is the perfect distraction. He doesn’t pander to her, doesn’t rub the matter in her face. He just helps her move forward. Soon enough, they subconsciously seek each other’s company.
And one more thing they share is a feeling of being...idle. Hinata, with their changing world and her changing clan, feels...purposeless. No longer heiress, questioning a shinobi’s role...she longs for something to do that’s useful, beneficial. Sasuke, too, finds no reward in missions, nor a call to politics like his brother with the clans, or his role in ANBU.
...then he gets an idea. Revive the police force. Employ any willing Hyūga. Let their clans be the eyes that watch and tend to the village from within, as Itachi’s ANBU do beyond the wall.
At his proposal, Hinata volunteers to help...and then to join.
Soon the force is back on its feet, and the eyes and hands of her clan make perfect officers: seeing all, and quickly stopping anyone who tries to run. With Sasuke at their helm, they begin to clean up the village from within. Hinata becomes his partner, working fluidly.
...as if natural, given all else they so simply adapt to...the pair soon find themselves falling neatly into love. Something neither ever imagined before, but...war changes you. And when circumstances line up just right...miracles can happen.
...but there’s trouble waiting in the shadows.
                                                           .oOo.
Day three! I actually have a MASSIVE AU for post-war Naruto that branches off after 699, and this is a very vague summary of it! A lot changes from canon, including the 'main' ships: we have, instead, NaruSaku...and Sasuhina. In ALAS, the story is focused far more on the Uchiha and their struggles against an unknown enemy that seeks to wipe them out once and for all...!      This was all built through RP a looong time ago, way before the manga even ended. I later took those disjointed scraps and polished them up into a huge AU I tried writing at one point. I got about 300k words in before I lost mojo, and...it's sat idle ever since. Sadly I don't know if I'll ever have time / mojo to redo it (as it's...old and very unpolished lol), but it's still fun to write little fics about and to RP!      Anyway, that's it for today! Thanks for reading~

Kankuro
Tumblr media
"Honestly, what a drag...I'm stuck around in an endless circle of boring missions...What is the Hokage even thinking? I'm an ANBU not some Genin who has to rescue cats and take out weeds. I mean, I have my own self-missions! ...And that other stupid cat hasn't replied in a week...Don't tell me Gaara gave him a mission? Come on, Neko-chan, don't scare me for no reason...Ah! Nevermind, I'm close to the Country of Wind anyways, better pay my friends a little visit~!" The red-head smirk widely under her fox mask, changing the direction of her running completely, now super excited to surprise her dear friends she hasn't seen in a long time. Much to her shock, however, she wasn't welcomed by either of the Sand Siblings at all, but in fact, one of the officials told her that Temari was on ambassador-business in Konohagakure, while the Kazekage got kidnapped, and Kankuro got injured trying to rescue him, and is in grave danger. Having already taken off her mask, her jaw hung open as she didn't let him finish his sentence, already being on her way to the Hospital. There, in one of the beds, was a single patient, writhing in pain, eyes closed, groaning in agony as if he was having a nightmare.
It was Kankuro.
But not Neko-chan, the Puppet Master that she used to tease endlessly and play around with.
This wasn't him.
This was Kankuro, a normal person with an injury that could end his life in the blink of an eye.
A person who was struggling to keep on going, to save his little brother from an inevitable demise.
The sight in front of her made her realise that, despite being in the ANBU, the Konoha teaching and the Will of Fire stuck to her tighter than she'd have ever wanted to admit.
For the first time in ages, she could feel something.
A sharp pain in her chest, as if her heart was being stomped on and crushed in front of her very eyes
A shinobi shouldn't have emotions, or it would destroy the completion rate of the mission.
"Guess I should just quit, then?"
those thoughts rung in her head.
Trying to calm down, she softly made her way towards him and sit on his bed, pushing away the hair from his face and wiping the thin layer of sweat forming, as she held his hand gingerly, kissing it.
"Damn it, Neko-chan...If only I knew this happened...I should have realised much sooner...I'm...I'm sorry...Please don't die...Gaara needs you...And Temari too...And all Suna, of course...And well...I guess I need you too...Tsk, who was the imbecile who dared mess with you?! Once I find out, I'm going to...Goodness, what am I not going to do to him! I will avenge you, that's certain...But...Is there anything I can do to help, I wonder..?"
Kitsune mumbled aimlessly under her breath, the words addressed more towards her than anything else, as she could barely look at the brown haired boy in front of her, instead settling for searching for a medical nin so she could understand the situation better and see if she could possibly give any help.
Kankuro knew that it was a bad idea. He knew that he shouldn't go after Gaara because the individuals who had abducted him were dangerous and if Gaara couldn't defeat his abductor, then he knew that he had no chance going up against the guy, let alone two of them. And yet he'd still gone because Gaara was his brother and he loved him. Kankuro had become extremely protective of his younger brother after that, so to see Gaara be taken away and not do anything about it was out of the question even if he knew that it was a lost cause and that he was probably going to end up dead.  Maybe he didn't end up dead but his current condition really wasn't all that better. He hadn't thought that being poisoned could hurt quite so much. But that was probably the point; to leave the inflicted victim in as much pain as possible before they eventually died. What had he been told? Four days? Two? Kankuro was having a really hard time remembering how much longer he had to live when he couldn't even figure out how to breathe properly. Each breath felt painful and his entire body was searing with pain. All he'd been able to understand was that the doctor's had no idea how to help him. But he wasn't afraid because the only worry that he had was focused on Gaara. He wanted to know that his brother was alright and that he was going to come back home. If he was told news like that, then he could die happy.  He would fall asleep from time to time. Restless sleep that was plagued by nightmares. And when he'd open his eyes, his vision would be so blurry that he'd just close them all over again and try to make sense of the voices around him. One voice surprised him because he hadn't heard it in awhile. He couldn't understand most of the words but Kankuro was interested enough in the voice that he had to force his eyes open to see who it was. He was in too much pain to get his brain to connect the voice to a person unless he actually looked. "Oh. It's you...you've picked a bad time to be a tourist.." Just getting those words out caused the pain in his chest to increase and so Kankuro stopped talking after that and squeezed his eyes shut against the pain.  But he didn't have to talk anymore because a frantic doctor stepped up to Kitsune to explain the situation. "Kankuro-san has been poisoned and we aren't able to do anything for him. We can't even give him something to numb the pain because it might react badly with the poison and cause it to spread faster. We had Lady Chiyo, our best healer, look him over but she wasn't able to do anything either. Hopefully someone from Konoha will be here to help but it's up to a three day walk...more if there are sand storms."
"Poisoned...You said? There's someone who could go against even Kankuro, at poison? Poison...Don't tell me you somehow managed to run into Akasuna no Sasori?! Gods...If not even Lady Chiyo managed to cure him, then there's no other. Hang in there, Kankuro, if Sasori did this to you, I have a shot at keeping you stable until Sakura comes. If Konoha sent help, I'm sure the Hokage sent her. Sakura's the best, okay? She can save you, no doubt. Do you hear me, Neko-chan?! Hang in there, fight, and show Sasori that you're the best!" Kitsune said, fired up by the information given to her by the doctor, which made her nod and ask the medical nin for the medical report and for the laboratory, so she could create a temporary relief for the boy. She wasn't a proper medical nin, not like Sakura, but she knew a bit more than average. Most shinobi are unaware of the dangers that lurk every second while on missions, dangers that can cause wounds. Wounds can be treated, but most teams don't have a medical nin, which is why the death rate is pretty high. Although she started learning medical jutsu for noble causes, she felt like a traitor. A traitor who betrayed not only herself, but Konoha, Suna, Kankuro and her old friend...Sasori. As much as she admired the puppeteer, and thanked him for teaching her the basics of chakra strings, he also taught her about poisons and antidotes of every type. She's been using weapons bathed in lethal poisons for years, but now, the poisons she prided herself with, were threatening her Kitten's life, which meant she had to destroy every principle she had, to save him. But it was worth it. She only had to wait a day before Sakura arrived, and once she did, she knew the information she had would help the pinkette work fast and efficient. Until then, she knew she had to work tirelessly to create the antidote. That day passed as slowly as a year, it seemed to the girl, as she could barely think of anything else but the state Kankuro was in when she arrived. She was determined to ease away the pain in any way possible, by any means necessary. Wiping her brow, she smiled softly at the jade-green antidote in the small vial, and getting up shakily, she made her way to the patient and sat down besides him, gazing at him as she caressed his face, before looking at the doctor and telling him about the antidote, a formality needed in order to be allowed to get the patient to drink it. She only hoped the antidote would work fast enough for him to feel less pain, and that Sakura would come faster so she could take away the poison from his system, before it was too late. "Hang in there, Neko-chan. I'm here. Kitsune is here, okay? I won't let you leave me before you can finally beat me at sparring. I'm like a parasite, y'know that. You can't get rid of me, even if you wanted." The fox-like girl chuckled weakly, trying to ease her own mind before kissing him hand once again before administering the liquid.
"Urgh...Couldn't you make it taste better...?" he uttered, choking on the serum, still not able to properly open his eyes, and so, not being able to see her face. In truth, he has never seen her face.
They first met when the Hokage assigned her, an ANBU, to show him around the village, in a way to make her take a break from all the difficult missions, and despite being rather socially awkward, they got along really well. Her fox mask was hiding all her fox-like features, the sly smirk, the mischievous glint in her emerald eyes, the beautiful, flawless porcelain skin... Or at least, that's how he imagined her.
The first day they met, they agreed to take each other's mask/hood off, but she tricked him, so she got to see him without his hood, but he couldn't reciprocate and from then on, he's been trying endlessly, but to no avail, to see her face. It was maddening for him, and it got to the point where he'd just randomly get caught daydreaming at how she'd look like. Maybe once he gets better, she will allow him to see her face, as a reward for not dying... If he indeed doesn't die, that is.
"Goodness, Sakura, honestly, I've never been happier to see you! Please save him, I've done all I could! I need your help to extract the poison from his system! I've seen it done at the hospital before, but it's incredibly difficult and I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it. The antidote...I did it already. If there's something I'm a Goddess at, it's poisons. I-I'll fill you in on the details as we go, but let's hurry and prepare! I know, and I'm sorry...I know you've been running for 3 days straight, but if we stay much longer, who knows what might happen!" the fox-girl yapped frantically, hugging her pink-haired best friend, green eyes staring into green eyes.
Sakura realised the gravity of the situation in a second, as she knew Kitsune never took off her mask, and now that she saw the obvious signs of sleep deprivation and general self-neglect and overwork, she realised that she was incredibly worried for the boy. She realised the signs of desperate emotions better than anyone else, for she would have been the same, were it Sasuke in Kankuro's place. The pinkette nodded firmly and rushed to the bed, reading briefly the status report, as well as hearing what Kitsune had to say and then started ordering the other doctors around, since she needed all the equipment ready.
As she instructed the fire-kissed girl on the procedure, and they began to take out the lethal poison from his system and although the method was incredibly advanced and difficult, there was nothing those two couldn't do together.
Kitsune ignored everything around her, including Temari, her dear friend, Naruto, Kakashi, even Lady Chiyo and the others who had to restraint Kankuro from thrashing around too much, as the girls used water to take away the poison from his system, and after hours, as soon as Sakura declared that there was no more poison left, she fell to her knees, holding the boy's hand tightly in both of hers, praying to whatever deity existed out there for the first time in her life.
Soon, she found herself alone - she had no idea how much time passed since it was night outside, until she heard a grunt which made her shot up to her feet and look him him.
"Kankuro, how are you feeling? Are you in pain? Do you need anything? Water, food, some fresh air uh...Your puppets? Just tell me and-" she asked faster than the brown-haired boy could even process, which made him roll his eyes and facepalm annoyed at her antics, until he realised that the one in front of him had nothing to conceal her face, and he could only stare at her with wide eyes, trying to usher any sound, but not being able too.
"Kankuro? Kankuro, answer me! Can you hear me? Is there something wrong? Oh my god, what if the poison got to his brain and fucked up his synapses...Or or maybe it damaged the temporal lobe? Or-...Oh my God, I must go get Sakura -" much like a meerkat she rambled and rambled, until she heard a quiet "Shut up", which had her stop in her tracks, slowly looking at him, concern still obvious in her eyes.
"Gosh...You're just as annoying as usual...Do you ever shut up?" he tried to joke, but his voice was still hoarse. "Oh uh...Sorry I...I was just worried and uhm...I...I'll just go get Sakura and leave you alone. You need peace and quiet to recover and she's better suited for that. I'll...Uhm...See you." biting her lip, she tried to turn away to leave, but was stopped by Kankuro who grabbed her wrist. "Don't be stupid, I never told you to leave. Not now, when I finally get to see your face. And it only took...What? 3 years? Gosh, you're hard to get. And it only took almost dying for you to forget to put your mask on when around me. Haha..." he smiled softly, motioning for her to sit on the bed next to him. "You almost died, Kankuro. I don't think this is the right time to joke or point out the fact that I let you see my face. It's no big deal, after all. It's just a face, nothing extraordinary, everyone has one." she shrugged, not understanding why he'd talk about that and not of other things more important. "Do you remember how we met?" he asked with a soft smirk, analysing her mimic very carefully. "How could I forget something like that...?" she muttered, slightly offended that he thought she would forget the day she met him.
The day when Kitsune went back from her highly important mission, she went straight to the Hokage's office to get another one, but was surprised to see a person she's never seen before, and even worse, Tsunade's smirk. Apparently, the blonde wanted to give her a break and had her mission be just showing the Sunagakure ninja around, only knowing that his name is Kankuro and he's the old Kazekage's son. The red-head cursed herself mentally since she was a terrible conversation-maker, but the time spent with him proved to be incredibly fun and soothing, since he was a sociable and friendly person.
"So, haven't seen ya around. Are you one of Naruto's many friends too?" he asked barely stealing a glance in her direction. "I used to help him cheat in the Academy. Then, we got separated, him with his team, myself with the ANBU and we didn't get to speak much. Then again, we meet once a month to eat ramen from Ichiraku." she said as a tint of nostalgia hit her. "Heh. That sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I had as many friends as him, sometimes. He's so obnoxious, though, I'd rather leave that one out." he chuckled, shaking his head. "Why do you think we only meet once a month? There's only so much hyperactivity one can take before it gets exhausting." the fox girl smirked behind the mask. "How come you don't take your mask off? What, scared to charm me to death~?" he smirked at her, stopping abruptly. "Supposedly, I'm on a mission. By ANBU rules, I have to keep it on. And not kill the one I'm supposed to protect, if it matters." the smugness in her voice was evident, as she too stopped, getting closer to his face. "Besides, it's not like I see you taking off your hood, kitty-cat." "Kitty-cat?! Wh-What the hell?!" he stuttered, looking at her wide-eyed in shock. "Well, clearly, this hood and the paint make you look like an innocent, harmless kitten. Can you prove me otherwise~?" she tried to provoke him. "I don't look harmle-...Wait a second...You're trying to provoke me! Oh, no no no, missy, it's not gonna work with me! I'm a calm, collected person-" he tried to say, but was cut off by Kitsune pinching his cheeks and saying 'hey, kitty, kitty, kitty~!" "I'M NOT A CAT! STOP THAT!" but the second he grasped her wrists, trying to make her stop, he halted and smirked. "How about a truce? If I take my hood off, I get to see your face. Deal?" he tried to reason. "Okay, fine. That sounds like a fair deal." she stated calmly, slowly taking his hood off, then ruffled his messy hair. "That was uncalled for. I said I was going to take my hood off." he pouted, trying to arrange his hair back. "Ah...You're right, I'm sorry. I was going to tell you that you might be the one charming me to death, after all, but...The deal was broke. Sorry, my fault~! Won't happen again~!" she said, giggling at his betrayed face. "Y-You...! You tricked me! You evil vixen!" he said desperately, trying to reach for her mask, but she quickly leaned back, inches away from his fingers. "Sorry, love. I guess I won't be able to kill you with my charm, just yet. After all, my mission is to protect you~." she was biting her lip, trying to stop herself from laughing. "You're going to be the death of me..." he sulked, hanging his head and crossing his arms. "Keep waiting and I might just be~." Kitsune said, pinching his cheek and walking in the direction of Ichiraku's, willing to treat her new kitty friend to the best ramen in town.
Remembering their first encounter, she smiled softly, closing her eyes and shaking her head, grasping Kankuro's hand again with both her hands.
"How could I ever forget that day..." she muttered, nostalgic. "Help me stand a bit, will you? I uh...Need some water." he tried to find an excuse to get closer to the girl, who was already there with a cool glass of water for him, helping him in a standing position slowly. She was completely unaware of how close they are, her mind only focused on making sure he's comfortable and not in pain, but him, on the other hand...His face flushed a bit, and he could already feel his heart beating faster and faster, as she kept his hand on his lower back to support him as he drank the water. "You're a bit flushed, Kankuro, are you sure you're feeling okay? Your face got really hot and rosey all of a sudden...Do you have a fever? Gods, that'd be horrible-" she started, putting her her hands on his cheeks and her lips on his forehead to feel if the warmth was unusual, but seeing that it was normal, she slowly backed away, her hands still on his face, looking down. "Do you...Do you like me, Kankuro?" she asked lowly, unsure of herself. "What gave it away?" he asked awkwardly, chuckling as her scratched the back of his head. "You don't have a fever, so if you didn't blush because of that...Well...I could only think of one other reason." she bit her lip, looking away, putting her hands on her lap, grasping them together shyly. "Well, there goes my confession. Never try to be romantic with a girl who knows medical stuff, she'll sniff you right from the start."  he chuckled, shaking his head and ruffling his hair a bit.  "I-I...Haha, Kankuro, I wasn't expecting that, to be fair. I'm...A bit shocked." she chuckled awkwardly, not knowing what to do. "Just when did you start calling me by my name, anyways? What happened to Neko-chan? It's not like you to be so serious for so long." he gave her a mock-smirk. "Honestly...CAN YOU BLAME ME?! You almost died! I was so worried and you expect me to care about what I call you or if I wear the mask or whatever?! Since I came here I could only think that I'd have to live without you and like?! I couldn't stop worrying and crying and all you can say is WHY DON'T I CALL YOU NEKO-CHAN?!" she yelled at him, barely stopping herself from beating him up. "Well...Yeah, I guess that's what I'm saying. I may not like it all that much, but if it's you...Let's just say I wouldn't let anyone call me that, okay? Look, I'm not good with words, okay? Yes, Kitsune, I like you, what else do you want me to say to make it more obvious? And you not calling me that stupid nickname, it's like, you're trying to distance yourself from me. Is that what you want?" he asked, slightly pissed off at her lack of reaction. "Do you think a nickname is going to show you that I love you? If that will make you feel better, then fine, I'll call you that. But I still love you, with or without that nickname. I love you, Neko-chan. Just...You have so many things on your head that I couldn't dare to say anything...But I had to make sure you were alive and healthy. People need you, but I'm the last person you should think about." she sighed, looking away. "It's because there are so many things on my head that I'd want you to be mine. So many bad things...Gaara getting kidnapped, the village getting attacked...But I have you. If I have you, then I think I can brave it all. You've always been with me, so don't leave me now. Kitsune...Will you be my girlfriend?" he asked, putting his hand on the back of her head, getting closer to her face. She looked into his eyes with her jade-green doe eyes looking wide in shock, searching deep into his soul, and seeing with how much love he's hazing at her, the soft smile on his face, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him softly, keeping him close to her.
"Guess that was easier than expected. I should get into life-threatening situations more often, if it means you get to kiss me." he chuckled, smiling shyly at her. "Next time you say that, I promise you I'm gonna beat the hell out of you next time you say, got it, Neko-chan? If you want a kiss, go ahead and steal it. Ain't gonna make it easy for you, hope y'know that, right~?" she slowly managed to get her infamous smirk back on her face, looking at him with her usual mischievous glint in her eye. "Better not complain when that happens then, Foxface." he teased, kissing her again as he caressed her face, feeling the soft skin.
"Hey, Kankuro, how are you feeli-...Ohh, nevermind, I'll just come back later. Lucky you~!" Temari's voice snapped the two lovers from their kiss and blushing, looked in her direction with a shocked expression, making her grin at them, leaving with a wink, putting her hand on Sakura's back to guide her out of the room. Pinkette who only gave two thumbs up and held a cheshire smile on her face, proud of her best friend. "Well...Guess there's no way to hide it now. It's official, and there's no way to shock anyone. Ah, what a pity." Kitsune shrugged, the corners of her lips tugged upwards in an feign-innocent smile. "I wouldn't even think of hiding it. I can't wait to tell Gaara when we save him." he chuckled mirthfully, hugging the girl close to him, laying back down on the bed, her head resting on his shoulder, closing her eyes and letting the peaceful atmosphere take over them.
They've been in love with each other for ages, but now that they confessed, their hearts are at peace. The only thing left to do was save Gaara and enjoy life as much as possible. After all...What's life without a little risk and love, right~?

Hinata vs Sakura: An opinion
K so we need to talk.
I've been seeing this thing about who's better (Sakura or Hinata), and in many cases, it's pretty biased by people's preferences. So hear me out.
I personally appreciate both characters, they are both strong and amazing, but they have different background stories and persona's, and made diferent life choices.
People treat them as if they were raised in the exact same household and have lived everything the same before the canon beggining of Naruto.
About Sakura, she had a simple childhood and comes from a normal family without any Kekkei Genkai, prodigy parents or whatsoever. For all we know, her parents are Chūunin, or jounin at best.
She doesn't have siblings, and her parents cared for her in a normal, healthy way.
About Hinata, she comes from a very strong family (one of the strongest in Konoha, probably) with a Kekkei Genkai. I don't remember any mention of her mother, but she grew up in a mentally/psychologically abusive household with her father and little sister.
Although her sister was still a technical problem due to her hierarchy, her biggest obstacle eventually turned into the form of Neji, who grew bitter towards her side of the family after his father's death, and who didn't know how/didn't get the chance to to channelise it. So he took it out on the ones weaker than him- Hinata.
Putting this all togheter along with the fact that there must've been side pressure put on her because of her family's general strength and talent, Hinata had it pretty rough as a kiddo.
Moving on to the first part of the Naruto series (original Naruto, not Naruto Shippuden), both girls showed exceptional talent. Except... they channeled it differently.
Sakura had a plus in back up, planning and chakra control, but she didn't own as much stamina or strong goal as her teammates (Naruto had Kurama and wanted to become Hokage, and Sasuke was a low-Key prodigy from the Uchiha who wanted to avenge his clan). In my opinion, she could've achieved things much earlier than before Tsunade came to her, if Kakashi would've helped her out a little more. She improves somewhat by the end of the first part.
We were hardly shown anything about Hinata's capabilities in the first part, but in the Chūunin exams. There, she could use the Byakugan, but her capabilities were much below Neji's. Even so, Naruto boosted somewhat on her confidence and I think tjag he also gave her like, a goal or smth? Like, to proove herself to Naruto/have Naruto to notice her. I can't say much about her capabilities in ninjutsu, genjutsu or taijutsu because, as said, we didn't see much of her capabilities and I don't remember the first part in detail.
Now, enough for their capabilities. When they were assigned to their teams, the teams were rather different.
While Hinata's team was a rather average team with a sensei that took upon the role of a second mother to them, Sakura's team was made of two prodigies who learned quickly and a sensei who kinda just went with the flow (sorry, Kakashi!).
In the end, Hinata grew into a strong kunoichi that mastered the Byakugan and many jutsus linked to it. Although not a crucial, she played a role in the war, with her Byakugan sight.
Sakura mastered medical ninjutsu and played a quite important role as a medical nin. She managed to heal many people and she managed to land a few good attacks on the enemy.
In conclusion, Sakura and Hinata are both strong kunoichis who don't need to be compared to eachother. The two have different stories, so it's hard to compare fairly. They both are strong and I think that we should appreciate both as they are.

Why I ship Sasuino (It’s more of a Ino post than a Sasuino one)
A long looooooooooooong overdue post because I wasn’t sure how to start out positive, so let’s start with the cold, hard bitter truth.
The first time I shipped Sasuino was because of Sakura. I was like 6 when Naruto was dubbed in English, and even at that age when I wasn’t exposed to the internet, I hated Sakura for all the basic reasons everyone around the world did.
Tumblr media
And when the truth was revealed during the chuunin exams behind Sakura’s and Ino’s rivalry, my little sister and I favored Ino out of all the girls. Not just because she was Sakura’s rival, but because she had enough screen time to show that she was a good character that should be rooted for over Sakura. She was in my honest opinion in pre-shippuden:
the prettiest girl out of all the Naruto girls (And still is through any prequels, sequels, midquels or even spin-offs for Naruto)
one of the best, talented kunoichis along with all the other girls except for Sakura
and could’ve been better if she didn’t have such lazy teammates (who turned out more reliable later on after getting their asses whooped big time) and a lazy sensei who favored Shikamaru.
who, despite being shallow and mean at times, was a good friend who had her priorities straight to begin with
and belonged to an amazing clan that actually succeeded in DOING the ONE thing the freaking GOD OF THE NARUTO UNIVERSE WANTED.
It was Ino’s clan abilities who helped connect the minds and hearts of pretty much everyone when the plot needed them to come together during the war.
Kishimoto probably didn’t mean to, hell he never really cared for this character at all, but he created a far more impressive character that was way too high on the scale for someone like Sakura to beat to be honest.
Tumblr media
And as a 6-year-old filled with spite against Sakura for being so damn annoying in pre-shippuden, I was on Ino’s side to win Sasuke.
So yes, my first reason as a 6-year-old was to ship Sasuino out of SPITE.
And other dumb reasons, but after Sasuke left Konoha, I stopped watching and reading Naruto since I was getting into other stuff. But ten years later after Naruto ended, tumblr was booming about it, so I went back into it and enjoyed reading the manga (never watched the anime again) despite its flaws, and my love for Ino did not fade. She didn’t have as much panel time and someone else always stole the spot light, making her less than a secondary character compared to Shikamaru. But despite being pushed back, she always gave a 100% when Kishimoto gave a damn about letting her do something.
And I ended up still shipping Sasuino harder than any other ship I had in the end.
Yes, their interactions are extremely few (Not counting the ones after the ending):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So my reasons are purely fanon.
Tumblr media
I mean I don’t have to ship, but I choose to, and honestly, I just love the idea of Sasuke and Ino. The two are similar in their stubbornness, competitiveness, talents, and love for tomatoes, but are opposites in a way that’s attractive. Sasuke’s negatives are being dark, brooding, and anti-social which contrasts with how Ino is optimistic, vibrant, and a complete social butterfly. While at the same time Ino’s negatives are being critical, mouthy, and short-tempered which will contrast with Sasuke’s consideration, silence and patience. They can both watch out for each other’s negatives and not change it but tweak it to be approachable.
But to be totally honest, it’s also partly because Ino is incredibly similar to Naruto in the right ways from their energetic personalities, to their optimistic and short-tempered attitudes, and their emotional strength.
Although Ino would not be able to share empathy with Sasuke over a tragic lonely past like Naruto does, she can still offer a healthy and genuine display of love and family (considering how toxic it turned out for the manga if one paid attention to that) since she had been given the privilege to grow up with a clan and alliance that embraces that more than anything. And in that sense, she can also develop sympathy for Sasuke’s struggles of losing his family, his clan, and his dreams. She won’t agree with most of his choices, but at least be an open ear to listen to instead of automatically judging, imposing one’s own character on him or selfishly choosing for him. I mean if Ino is capable of keeping a guy like Sai around and happy, it’s not a stretch that she can do the same with Sasuke.
This is a RANT now:
And I am irritated at Kishimoto since it amazes me that every time there’s a mission involving Sasuke, Ino’s never a part of it. He just teases on Ino’s affections for Sasuke that it’s really difficult to tell what she truly felt for him in the end. Maybe her romantic feelings for him was shallow, but her feelings couldn’t have been just 100% romantic like Sakura’s or Karin’s were. It’s just not normal to cry over an old crush. Maybe be shocked, but actually full blown crying?
It’s hard not to speculate that Ino may have actually came to care for Sasuke on a deeper level than a romantic one when they were younger. Other fans have speculated that it’s because Kishimoto wanted to remind people of what Sakura’s goal throughout this manga was, and that was to beat Ino in both jutsu and romance. But because of how Sakura’s own goal had changed at the end of pre-shippuden from beating Ino to trying to catch up to Naruto and Sasuke, reminding people of Ino’s feelings for Sasuke’s was pointless.
Tumblr media
I didn’t hold hope for Sasuino by those moments in Shippuden. Nothing was closely connected enough that this was out of the blue, and the rivalry between Ino and Sakura shouldn’t have been put on focus at all in Shippuden since it was an immature rivalry that didn’t evolve unlike Naruto’s and Sasuke’s own.
Ino honestly shouldn’t have become a medic nin. Shikamaru’s damn family are medical experts and Shikamaru’s less in-the-face-of-enemies role made him perfect to be the medic nin instead and Ino should’ve had more Yamanaka jutsus. Or at least became a student of Shizune since, hello, Ino comes from a floral family business so poisons would’ve been part of her expertise fcs!
IT’S BEEN FUCKIN’ THREE-FOUR YEARS SINCE IT ENDED AND IT STILL FRUSTRATES ME!

Pro Sasuke Uchiha : Constructive Criticism of Kishimoto’s Antagonist
Disclaimer: I am not a critic. To anyone that disagrees, my humble opinion doesn’t count for anything because I’m just some loser in his mom’s basement as far as you’re concerned. I’m little more than a disappointed fan. Thank you for reading if you’ve go this far. Hope you can read the rest with objective consideration and without bias. This will be a long rant, you’ve been forewarned.
So I’ve been on a spree of criticism of Kishi’s work. Cannot help being criticil of an Artist/Writer who has let me down just as many times as he/she has inspired me. So because he let me down he has inspired me to write about some of the things I’m very critical of because I have no closure from the series and I can’t help but feel “Next Generation”  wasn’t about love for writing the story anymore.
In the beginning of the series Sasuke isn’t yet the antagonist, but it’s clear Kishi intended the to of them to be rivals while building what was supposed to be, and in many ways, is a story of incredible bonds and friendship. It was clear he had a motivation behind what he wanted to do as far as the character developing into and I see, it seems anyway, that he deviated from that.
By the early stages of the character development it is established through Sasuke’s monolgue to Sakura “I am an avenger” that he never stopped grieving the loss of his clan and family and that he wanted the same closure fans never got. He said to Kakashi “I will restore my clan” and while I’m certain this isn’t meant to be taken literally he wanted to do right by their memory.
Understanding that he didn’t just lose his family, he was literally tortured at the age of 8(forced to endure something that had Kakashi bed ridden for a week), he lost connection to his heritage(remember Madara is one of the founding members of the village yet Sasuke had no clue who he was), he lost his idol in Itachi and was forced to deal with a damaged psyche that no one could really repair Itachi drilling in his head that he was some sort of coward. He has both an inferiority complex and a superiority complex because of the standard the Clan is held to. Rather than knowing what is and isn’t true with his parents to guide him through his mess of a life.
What’s disappointing is by the end of the series that wasn’t the main take away from his character. Why? Because the development of his character was stifled by Naruto. Yes, I’m talking about the main character of the story. It’s very relevant to know and understand that Kishi didn’t take time to develop many of the characters in the story. Tenten, Hinata, Lee to an extent, Ino, Choji, Kiba, and Shino among others I may even be forgetting because....yea its obvious.
So to the point. Naruto borders on being a gary stu because, seemingly, Kishi was more partial to him than anyone Sasuke included. That’s not to say Sasuke didn’t get charcter development, just he didn’t develop in a way that was understandable to the majority of fans.
As I was saying about the end of the story none of this is understood. Worst part being that Itachi overshadows Sasuke’s character in a way that is completely disrespectful to fans who had great insterest in the development of him as Sasuke’s antagonist. I do not in anyway disagree with the choice to make Itachi remain his loving brother, who made a difficult choice for the good of the village and the one he cared for the most, but to be honest the logic that comes out of Itachi’s choice and reasoning by fans loving him so yet having great disdain for Sasuke as describe: Whiny, emo, ungrateful, selfish, among other things is a fallacy. Most of those things are inaccurate as well hypocritical to praise Itachi at the same time.
Firstly lest start with him being ungrateful or selfish. It was immediately after the death of his clan, that this clearly life altering even influenced him to decide without doubt that he would devote his life to seeing JUSTICE for what happened then. This is how the story STARTED, please understand that it wasn’t until part 2 that this turns into full blown revenge and blind hatred in a completely hypocritical manner that made fans who already disliked Sasuke absolutely loathe him. I’ll say again this is merely so Naruto could play hero and save his soul(see there I’m getting irritated thinking about this already).
If you have a goal like becoming Hokage, or President of the United States, or First Pick in the NFL draft, or becoming head Medic nin, whatever real life or fictional you know that you can’t just decide to give it up because people say it is Irrational. Sasuke’s ultimate goal was to avenge his family. That meant he had to become strong enough to defeat Itachi, which meant sacrifices must be made.
What did he sacrifice. A normal childhood, his friendships, and the closest thing he had to a family since his blood relatives died. Yet Sasuke is selfish? Sacrificing your frienships and chance at a normal life in favor of a decision you made at 8 years old because of the family you LOVED is probably the most selfless thing a person can do. I often see people compare him to both Kakashi, and Naurto in these cases to justify loathing his character and making silly memes to ridicule him.
Kakashi couldn’t get revenge on anyone, seeing as how his only family commit suicide, The White Fang was not murdered/slaughtered. As far as Rin and Obito, they died in the line of duty they weren’t killed simply because some evil bastard(as far as Sasuke knew) wanted to “Test my power.”
Naruto, had no connection to his family until Jiraiya and also had no concept of vengence until Jiraiya died, and If we are really to give credit where its due, the only reason he chooses not to avenge him is 1. Because it would go agaisnt his Masters wishes 2. Because he see the weight Sasuke’s had to carry and wants to free his friend from that pain. He can’t do that if he chooses to walk a path that was not his.
Another thing that Kishi made very clear was that was the point. Sasuke was at his best when he was written as a character that manifests his own reality, and walks his own path without regret. Let’s not forgot that Fugaku is nothing like Jiraiya. He didn’t raise Sasuke to aim for peace or anything like that, in fact, one of the Uchiha’s rules is that they don’t take prisoners. Yet another reason Sasuke took it upon himself to kill Itachi, it was his duty.
Then of course, yes I’m about to go there you’ve been wared, there’s the SasuSaku thing. Why? Just why? This relationship, was never called for from the get go. Another reason so many Americans are so messed up that they don’t understand the difference between true love and infatuation. Where does Sakura’s “love” begin, where does Sasuke’s more importantly? Was that established with any certainty?
In the beginning the bulk off their interaction consisted with Sasuke ignoring her and calling her annoying. The nicest thing he says to her the entire series is “Thank you.” seriously? Not “I’ll miss you.” not  “I care for you...deeply” but “Thank you.” Thats like something you say when someone passes the salt at the dinner table.
What is their connection? I refuse to bring up other pairs because is about Sasuke development as a character not SasuSaku. Sakura does nothing but follow Sasuke around like a love sick puppy and by the end of the series, it somehow pays off and while it may feel like a win for fans of that pair, to me as a fan of the overall series and writing that makes sense even in a fictional world where characters have superpowers. There should be some logic there at least.
What we know at the start of part one is Sakura is a 12 year old girl with a crush on the most popular boy in school. Hilarious, that’s the foundation of this pairing, never in part one and hardly anything in the series at all does it explain where these “romantic” feelings developed. It least we know why Hinata admires Naruto (sorry nothing more on NaruHina, another time perhaps).
And Sasuke never shows any affection to her what so ever besides “Thank you.” of course and gently lying her on the park bench. Don’t think I don’t notice the SasuSaku moments either. Like when he was about to break both of Zaku’s arms and Sakura hugs him. Probably as close ot romance as it gets and Sasuke is being hugged from behind. He doesn’t initiate the hug and he doesn’t hug her back, he stands there suprised at probably the first time he’s been hugged since his mother was murdered.
Understand this, if you take that as a sign Sasuke felt the same, fine. That is absolutely acceptable, even understandable. However, for me, that is a bit half assed. It’s really not much to go on over the course of 700 chapters to say they “fell in love”. Because to me love does not equate to trying to force someone to notice you for two years, having attempts at affection met with disdain and even physical assault, like when he slaps the apples she spent so much time carving out of her hands as she visited him and tried to feed him at the hospital.
I’m sure I don’t have to mention the actual attempted murder at the summit to anybody so that’s all I’ll say about it for now. Now back to Sasuke’s overall story as I prepare to close. The summit was probably the biggest chance to turn Sasuke into an admirable character in fans eyes.
Instead what Kishi does is comepletely wreck his character, so he can be the antagonist and be saved by Naruto. There’s even this little comparison by Karin where she see’s how evil and corrupt Sasuke is, another innocent he tried to kill, and then sees how pure Naruto’s soul is. It was ridiculous. I understand Naruto is the hero of the story, but that never meant Sasuke HAD to be the villain.
He even turns the entire situation with Danzo and his orders to have the Uchiha clan annihilated into a complete mess. Sasuke has gone batshit, and rather than being a person trying to do right by his clan and his brother’s memory, Kishi turns him into this absolute fiend who will murder even his own allies just to make some silly point based on a story told him by a guy who’s real faces he’s never seen even once. A guy who wasn’t even the real Madara Uchiha. As if Sasuke was never strong enough to separate himself from his emotions and what he believes is right. Itachi was already dying and he wanted Sasuke  to kill him as atonement. He killed the uchiha in favor of the leaf why would he want Sasuke to destroy the village.
If he were written properly Sasuke would’ve killed Danzo and walked his own path, facing Naruto one final time and either dying or leaving all of that mess behind. It would’ve been fine for him to return to the village if he there to sow seed and start a new with the Uchiha clan. Instead he's a glorified prize for Sakura and Sasusaku fans, as well as someone Naruto basically stalked for 2 years just to force him to not even be in the picture anyway.
As I said in the beginning, or someone in the middle maybe. Sasuke was at his best when he was written as an independent character walking his own path and sacrificing what mattered most to him in favor of doing right by his people, his family, his clan. I thank anyone who made it to the bottom of this post.

From the 'General' section: 3, 9, and 12 please :D
Ooo,keeping it clean for this time round. Okay, I get that. I did basically paradetheir sex life in front of you first time round lol. Besides, these ones arefun lol.
General– 3 – Do Naruto andSakura have their own Genins? If so, who are they?
They did! But itquickly became apparent that their focuses needed to be elsewhere. It is very difficultto juggle being Hokage/Chief of Medicine and practicing doctor, parenthood, time for each other, time with friends andbeing good Jounin-sensei.
Though in truthSakura does still help teach the new doctors and medic-nins and once or twice, when asked by kids she’s had her eyes on, she’s been known to help with Chuuninexams training. She’s even been a proctor a couple times.
Sachi had theadvantage of her father not being Hokage when she was going for her Chuuninexam but Naruto was only really able to help two teams of Genin become Chuuninas he insisted they were too young.
The fact thatNaruto’s second, and last, team was made up of Kakashi and Anko’s daughter,Iruka and Ayame’s son and Neji’s sonwith Tenten … well let’s just say Naruto was protective. (PS, in my world Neji did not die in that bullshit way,but he was almost fatally wounded and retired from ninja life because of it.Kind of like Gai. They had their first son through the ‘thank god you’re alive’sex trope. If you’re good I’ll talk more about other ships kids later.)
It also led to himimplementing laws that will, he hopes, lead to there being no child soldiers inthe ninja villages. He managed to get it to the point where you have to be atleast fifteen to do C class missions but he wasn’t able to get that law intoplace until Akihiko’s time.
D ranks are afterall, basically helping out around the village and Naruto thinks that’s a goodenough start to build on the communal goodwill element ninja missions have beenmissing out on.
Naruto doesn’treally have a favourite though, he’s very much the kind of Hokage that Hiruzenin regards to the children of the village. He loves and supports them all. Evenwhen he’s a crusty old man. But he does have soft spots for his friends’ kidsand the six Genin he trained.
Sakura is much thesame. With one glaring exception.
Sakura’s favouritestudent, of all time and without any excuse or explanation given when asked is:Mirai Sarutobi.
Now, I know we havesome info about her in canon, but I’m gonna let you all know, I don’t know whatthe fuck happened after chapter 700 beyond the briefest outlines of Boruto atcertain points and a basic premise and plot of The Last.
I don’t know, I don’tcare to know, and I will ignore you if you try to tell me.
So yes, Sakura’sfavourite student is Mirai Sarutobi. Now she’s not her mentor, or even the mostinfluential teacher, that is obviously Shikamaru and I would never call thatinto question. I cried my eyes out over Shikamaru’s grief over losing Asumatoo. I’m not a monster.
But Mirai came toSakura for some advice on close combat fighting on Shikamaru’s recommendation andthe two bonded deeply. She only taught Mirai officially for a year or two butthe girl was a joy to teach. Sakura would often find herself walking past thetraining grounds she knew Mirai and her team would be training to check in.
She may also havehad a regular coffee date with Shikamaru to keep up to date on Mirai’sprogress. Which they still do now. They play Shogi and chuckle about theirboisterous blond spouses. It’s quite sweet really.
Plus, Sachi adores Mirai. She did a lot of her Drank missions as Sachi’s babysitter and if Mirai had only been a little olderwhen Sachi graduated the Academy … the eldest Uzumaki child would have killedfor her Jounin-sensei to be Mirai Sarutobi. She’s basically an honorary memberof the Uzumaki family.
General– 9 – What is Naruto’srelationship with his in-laws like?
It’s good! Like really good.
Especially with Sakura’s father, Kizashi. They have a similar sense ofhumour you see, and while he is not as close to Sakura’s mother, Mebuki, theyget along well and they’re very proud of both Naruto and Sakura. And are theproudest of grandparents.
They’re always there to lend a helping hand for Sakura and theirson-in-law. Mebuki tends to move in to help with the kids when Sakura ispregnant.
The only real hiccup they’ve had are when Kizashi and Mebuki found outSakura was pregnant. Mebuki was more comfortable with the idea as she was ableto step back and think about it. But Kizashi was less impressed.
Daddies and their daughters guys. What else were you expecting? It waskind of embarrassing to witness though, Kizashi was quite loud and vocal abouthis angry expectations of Naruto to stand by Sakura through her pregnancy, they’dtold her parents she was keeping Sachi at this point, despite the fact thatKizashi knew full well Naruto wasn’t the kind of man to ditch out.
Naruto was so stunned by the aggressive nature of the man, he actuallygot a little intimidated.
But from the moment Naruto promised both Sakura and her parents that hewasn’t going anywhere … things have mostly been aces. Kizashi and Naruto makedad jokes to their childrens’ mortified horror.
It’s a very happy family gathering when Mr and Mrs Haruno are with theUzumaki family.
General – 12 – Do either of them have tricks to makethe other stop being mad at them?
Heh. Yes they do lol.
I’ll break them down into what each does at differentstages of anger lol.
WhenSakura’s mad:
Naruto does the puppy eyes, he’ll be super sweet, flattery and apologies and basically anything he can think of to get Sakura toforgive him. It sometimes works.
Except for when he’s been a real moron. Though he hasnever had to sleep on the sofa (yes I’m taking a shot at canon, it won’t be thelast time).
But if it’s something he can charm his way out of …Naruto flirts with Sakura, in the only way he is actually capable of. Kissingher neck in just the right place, rubbing her back in just the right place, giving her a slow squeeze on the arse.
He flat out tries to seduce her lol. That one …actually works a lot better than you’d think. But it only really works in twocircumstances.
When Sakura is immensely horny or she’s not actuallythat mad. Any other time, Naruto gets told to knock it off and is given thecold shoulder for … I don’t know, a day tops.
Because Sakura has matured too as she’s gotten olderand part of a healthy relationship is talkingabout your problems and not expecting the other person to just know. Naruto’snot the emotionally smartest man and Sakura knows that.
Plus Naruto is always the sweetest of men when he’smaking up for being an arse. Make-up sex was a regular thing when they firstmoved in together as learning to live together was one of their biggestchallenges.
Though one time Naruto knew he’d be in trouble when hegot home, he had lost track of time and Sakura had been expecting him. She wasovulating and they were trying for baby number four.
So Naruto walked into their house, stood in front ofthe angry Sakura, foot tapping on the floor and arms crossed over her chest and… he whipped his shirt off.
Sakura looked at his bare chest, grumbled and draggedhim into the bedroom by his hand.
WhenNaruto’s mad:
HA!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Naruto is almost NEVER madat Sakura.
The only time he has been mad enough at Sakura for herto need use techniques to cheer him up is when she’s being a bit insensitiveabout something that matters to him and he gets huffy.
And to be clear this is the kind of huffy where he’s agrown man looking like a child. And it is adorableto Sakura.
He pouts and Sakura can’t help but aww at him. Whichpisses him off more.
And I suspect you’re gonna know how Sakura gets himout of this funk.
Yes, she gets naked. Sometimes she honest to goodnessflashes him.
And it works.
Every. Single. Time.
It actually got to the point where eventually Narutowould see her hands going to the buttons of her shirt, or to take off someother piece of clothing, and he’d cover his eyes and shout at her to ‘stopcheating!’
Sakura would just take advantage of his blocked visionand occupied hands to take off his clothes and start kissing his chest andrubbing … parts of him. Say naughty things, because she’s much better at dirty talk than Naruto lol, or puts his hands on her.He normally gets over his annoyance pretty quickly.
To be clear, they have fallen out and Sakura’s been inthe wrong. And not in a little ‘Naruto’s taking something too seriously’ way.But that’s not what this headcanon is about, I just don’t want you guysthinking I headcanon Sakura never being wrong.
Cus she is. She really is.

Chapter I
“Shit. I can’t train like this.” Sasuke hissed in a frustrated groan as he tried to throw kunais and shurikens from a ranged target.
His wrists were being annoying and it burned like hell.
As he made every movement the wounds from his wrists would distract him. And just as he hissed a curse, the wounds from last night’s torture began to bleed again.
“Tch, another waste of time, I have no other choice.” he set off to the road of the hospital carefully clutching and hiding the secret infliction he had done in secret.
It was his entire fault really. Being lost in his own mind and being so easily controlled by his emotions that one thing he never thought of losing to. It’s a thing that disgusted him, it was a form of weakness. If nothing more, Naruto’s words only fit him right. “You’re a freak!” everyone would think that. But he never dwelled on the matter anyway.
As he strode his way to the hospital, He’d come to appreciate the silence he was met with
The good thing about walking past the streets at this time was that there were only few people beginning to start off their day. So, the trip to the hospital was quite efficient for him.
It was quiet, very and nobody gave him any attention.
And not for long the building of the hospital came into view
As he entered the hospital the first thing that any living people who entered was to ask the information desk. “Oh! Uchiha-san! Good morning! Is there any help I could get you?” The brunette girl with the nurse outfit said. A name tag dangled on the left part of her uniform that says ‘Ami’
“I need a physician.” He grunted. “Oh! I would be guessing those are wounds?” Ami said and Sasuke nodded at this. “He’s a walk-in doctor is that okay with you Uchiha-san?” Ami asked waiting for a preferral. Well they were Uchihas and they don’t seem to trust just anybody with something.
“Hn, anyone available would be fine.”
“Alright, Dr. Hiro-san is available at this hour. You should seek him at his office it’s near the emergency area.”
“Aa.” Sasuke said and walked off.
The walk wasn’t that long and that he made it within a spare of minutes.
The doctor was easy to communicate with. And it was just his luck as he stood there already on the operating room.
“So, Sasuke-san, what happened?” Hiro asked with a bright personality. “My wrists are bleeding.” Sasuke said and started removing his bloodied wrist protectors.
As he scribbled on the medical chart. Which was probably his. ‘fuck, my records are piling up.’
“Hmm…. I see, you seem to have previous ones like these as well.” As he scanned the medical chart. And dotting out his pen once more.
“Is there any reason why your wounds keep appearing like this?” Hiro asked Sasuke. ‘the bastard’s testing me.’ Sasuke thought.
He rolled his eyes and said. “They were bruises I acquired in training.” The doctor didn’t look convinced as he gasped at the wounds. Sasuke gave the doctor a final look that meant not to dwell on it any further. The doctor gave a defeated sigh and said.
“Well… It’s been cleaned thoroughly. But these are big cuts Sasuke-san. I think some might even need stitching.”
The sight of Sasuke’s hand unravelled as the doctor completely removed the bandage from his wrists. It almost made Sasuke’s stomach shudder. ‘I am a fool.’
“Alright, I’ll clean these up with some aqua oxigenada after I administer you with some shots and start stitching.”  “did you drink some antibiotics this early morning?” The doctor asked as he assisted him to sit on the medical bed.
“Yes.” He answered shortly.
“What time?” As the doctor prepared and sanitized the needed medical tools and readied the syringes for the needed shots.
“4 AM.” Sasuke answered.
“What milligram?” the doctor asked as he flicked the syringe with his fingers. And measuring the right amount of vial.
“Hn.” Sasuke answered. The brunette doctor smiled and chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck. “I guess that says you don’t know.” He scribbled some things on the medical chart after washing his own hands and wearing some latex gloves.
“I’ll administer you with a small injection of anti-biotic just in case you drank a very weak one, And… of course some anaesthesia.”
Right before the first injection. The door gave out a loud thud. This startled Sasuke whom also looked at that direction,
he sensed a familiar chakra. His glaring towards the door only made him glare.
The doctor came up and peeped at the door but found no one to be there.
“Hmm… someone musta’ve bumped it accidentally. The emergency room is quite hectic today.” And then he shrugged it off and approached a very troubled looking Sasuke.
‘Tch! I have to be alert at all cost, someone is already spying on me.’
Under no conditions should people see him in this state, especially his teammates. He would never allow it. He could only die from humiliation, disgust, and self-deprivation. It would only hinder him from trying to get away from these selfish actions.
His mind is twisted he admits, and not any of this should be normal. Even though he’d said it in a million times.
He knew that he never deserved to do this to himself. So that’s why his resort to life is to avenge his entire clan. Because he never deserved to lose a family, and they never deserved to die. So, until he was alive. He strives to hate and become much stronger than his brother.  Then, after all of that, he wished the sufferings his mind gave him would disappear. Because if he killed his brother, then so are his nightmares.
“There, all done! Please don’t do any strenuous activities for a week. It would reopen the wound. And just like I said, The hospital is quite hectic today. You can’t just grasp any medic nin here. They’re very limited people. And they are needed in a very serious case.”
Sasuke grunted at this and muttered his ‘thanks’ to the doctor.
He left the operation room and walked to the hallways knowingly going in the wrong direction as he sensed a familiar chakra. ‘Tch, I think I have an idea who it was outside the operation room I occupied just minutes ago.’
“SASUKE-KUUUUN!” an annoying screech was heard after that he felt someone latched tightly on his arm.
“Get off me Ino.” He said annoyingly while struggling to save his wrist from any contact. He pulled her off his body frustatingly. And the girl was literally reluctant.
“Awww… common you’re no fun Sasuke-Kun! I was just gonna give you the biggest kiss when I felt your chakra earli-”
“Get off my face Ino.” Sasuke cut her off. He looked irritated and ready to snap. “wha- what? Why?” Ino exclaimed.
“Didn’t you hear me? I said leave me alone!” Sasuke said with finality. She just had to be so clingy at this hour. It’s too early for all of this mess.
“And, don’t ever follow me!” he said in seriousness. Ino gasped at this and rolled her eyes annoyingly.
“Really Sasuke-kun, you should be upgrading your social skill more!” She said in a girlish manner which made him want to flinch more. If he didn’t learn all of those etiquette lessons from his mother about respecting women she would have been beaten into a pulp already. She had no right to spy on his privacy.
Finally facing him casually. “It seems today is not the day I changed that about you. But I’ll never lose to that forehead.” She said as she flipped her hair. Why do they keep going on about this? It just sounded like foul play. It was so annoying.
“Anyways! It was nice seeing you! Good bye Sasuke-kuuun!” She waved off flauntingly despite him being a rude prick.
‘Tch! She was the one who spied on me. I’d be in a real big trouble if she used that mind transfers of hers.’ He grunted at this and finally walked on the right direction.
Unfortunately not only for a few steps away from the scene did he felt a much more familiar chakra. It felt strong emotions, one that he might feel of confidence and oddly firing determination, it was of rare occurrences for him to feel her this way. After all, he never really did try to get to know her any better than Naruto and Kakashi.
The sight she saw of her. Short pink hair, resolute green eyes and a hint of smile that displayed self-pride as she hastily strode faster and frankly trying to avoid a room she just passed. She was clutching a thick book that seemed to weigh ¼ of her body. How can she manage to bring that all the way around in the hospital?
Just after a few seconds she crashed onto him and like he expected. As she was about to fall, he already caught her steadying and holding firmly on her shoulders.
“tch, you should be more careful.” He said in his usual tone.
“Oh, Sasuke-kun! I’m sorry I was in a hurry! I’m helping out in the hospital. The ER is quite hectic today.” Sakura answered as she smiled sheepishly. ‘phew that came off better than I had wanted.’
“Hn, I’ve been told.” Sasuke replied as he noticed she got nervous all of a sudden.
“I didn’t know you volunteered help.” he answered as he gave her the fallen book.
“Thanks. Err Actually, I’ve been volunteering in the hospital for almost 3 months now.” She showed a look of disappointment but immediately changed it to a brighter one before he caught it.
Sasuke’s eyebrows seems to have rose at this. He looked amused. Shouldn’t she be training instead of volunteering? It’d be much better if she can take care of herself more than helping others.
It was just very typical of her. That’s why he always felt the need to protect her. Because she always cared about others and forgot to think about herself.
“Anyways, Take care Sasuke-kun! I need to help out in the hospital I’m in need of a very important study today. I’ll see you at 7!” She waved off with a sweet smile.
“hn.”
‘smiles, her smiles are always so innocent.’
He thought as he watched her retreating back and hurried for the stairs.
For a really weird reason he found her smiles the most comforting. Yet never really dwelled on the matter. There were more important things he needed to do. Like training for the finals. And get stronger and kill his brother
He scowled quietly for thinking this way and followed the path to team seven’s training grounds.
It was only for a moment when he started training and came back from the hospital all patched up from his self-inflicted wounds.
He looked very serious and keen on his training until
he felt an enigmatic presence lurking in the forest. He activated his sharingan in secret and continued to train so he wouldn’t look obvious.
‘Chakra.’ One that seemingly is ranked as jounin or chuunin if he knew maybe even anbu. Someone was watching him from the shadows.
'Tch, he never even bothered to hide it.' He thought as he threw the kunai he was holding that was supposedly aimed for the training dummy to the open forest.
“Show yourself.” He said as he glared a few meters away from the training dummy he was training with just minutes ago.
“Hmm… It seems you have caught me. Uchiha”
A red head boy stepped away from the shade of the trees and came forward gracefully.
“Pleasantries.” Gaara said in a very calm but dangerous voice.
“What do you want Gaara?” Sasuke glared and growled.
“Oh, nothing I just wanted to get to know my opponent better.” He smiled. “Maybe this way, I could know your weakness.”  The intense glares he had sent off to Gaara did little than to mock him.
“Oh wait, I think I wouldn’t be needing that. You already are.”
Sasuke grunted and strengthened the glare he only gave at Gaara. Sasuke's fist whitened from rage.
He dare say that to his face. He hadn’t even seen his skills when he trained for this examination 3 months ago.
“I can’t feel nothing but excitement at the feel of your bones being crushed by my sand.” He said and smiled wickedly and gave a dark laugh.
Sasuke the arrogant guy he was happened to earn himself a challenge. “Why don’t you ask yourself?” Sasuke said in a dangerous tone and readied for his battle stance. Taunting him.
“A challenge I see…” Gaara’s knuckles turned white from the tension. His eyes gleamed in attempt for murder. His bloodlust getting all excited as he felt the need to kill something immediately however he composed himself. There was little time left for him to mock a weakling.
“It would be a shame if I killed you right now.” Gaara said tauntingly. Sasuke growled audibly and Gaara almost let off a snicker.
“Besides, I want to see you die in front of the audience.” Gaara smiled and continued.
“ I will show them just how much of an excuse you are for a ninja.” He laughed darkly. That’s it, He just snapped. He had to have his head right now.
“Tch! Why you-!” Sasuke said as he launched in front of him.
“T’Hahahaha.” Gaara looked so twisted. His lips plastered on his cheek too widely as he saw his plan unraveling, getting him all worked up and looking like an idiot.
“STOP!” A tough female voice rang out of nowhere.
“Gaara! Where have you been? We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” A blonde sand ninja said. She looked familiar but he never really gave an effort to remember her name. It was no time for pleasantries.
“Temari. Get out of my way.” Gaara glared.
He looked like was ready to snap. The girl could only gasp as she looked at Gaara nervously, as sweat dripped from he brows.
The Kazakage their father would surely have their heads if Gaara created more trouble. Yet it could also get her killed if she stopped him. Handling Gaara was a very much delicate matter. One wrong move and you're dead.
She willed herself to speak and not to chicken out. It was her duty anyway. They were still siblings, in blood or not. Even though it killed for her to think this way.
“Father is looking for you.” She said as her heart beat too fast.
Just as she said this a Boy carrying puppets and wearing make up came rushing into them.
“Gaara, Father has sent us to fetch you. He has a very urgent matter to discuss with us please must come along, immediately.”
The newcomer said this with obvious nervousness. The tension could just kill them.
“Fine.” Gaara said in finality. He glared at the Uchiha and gave him his wicked smile.
“Till then, Uchiha…” Gaara said as he turned around following his siblings to the open forest.
“Tch! That bastard.” Sasuke muttered and continued to glare daggers behind their backs. He composed himself and started to train more.
Giving the kunai a harsh grip and throwing it with force. He had to let his frustrations out. He had to train and become much stronger. Truly those sand siblings were always bored and looking for trouble.
Sasuke wanted nothing more for the exams to end.
He willed himself not to dwell on what just happened earlier and continue to strive harder on his training. Yet, seeing it as it is the doctor had said that doing strenuous activities for the matter would reopen his wounds and it would likely render him useless in training.
He looked at his arm and instead remembered the events before going to the hospital.
‘Hn, Sakura.’
It was already 7:30 and surprisingly enough Sakura was running a little late past behind their team meeting.
  __________________________
“I got it!” Sakura said in finality. Sachi could only gasp. ’t-this kid…!’
"Let me see, let me see!" Sachi said excitedly. after knowing the results and the poisoned blood returned to its original shade she could only jumpp in glee and hug the kid tight.
‘That’s amazing Sakura-chan!!” she screamed in delight!
"The formulas are finally done! Now the rest is up for distribution!” Sachi exclaimed.
“We’ll handle it from here, I know you’re running a little late for your team training. I’m truly sorry for that!” Sachii said in a bow.  Sakura checked the clock on the wall and gasped.“Oh no! You’re right!” She gave out a horrified expression. What would Sasuke-kun say to her about being tardy? but she didn't dwell on the matter far longr when she remembered that this antidote she had just created will save many lives as of this day and the next.
“It’s okay Sachi-san it was a pleasure working with you. And I’m glad I could help!” Sakura said happily.
“I have truly no words! You know we could offer you a position here in the hospital if something comes up! I’ll arrange the paperworks and all will be good!”
Ami said happily and Sakura gasped as Sachi giggled.
“Besides, you’ve been helping out for a while now, and I’ve been guessing it’s what you wanted in the first place when you came here. Am I right?”
“Yes! Of course!” Sakura said excitedly. “Thank you so much Sachi-san!” she screamed in delight and hugged the 20-year old medic.
“aww! You’re welcome Sakura-chan!” and she hugged back. Truly Sakura was too sweet for her own.
“I will do my best and I promise you won’t ever regret this decision!” Sakura said in finality and hurried for the door.
“I must go now! Sasuke-kun must already be there!” Sakura said and ran off for the training grounds.
“wait-! Sakura! you’re wrist...!” Sachi exclaimed. Yet after she uttered these words Sakura was already out the door. ‘Oh, dearie that girl could be really reckless.’
“Oh, shoot I’m super late!” Sakura said as she ran on the streets of Konoha looking at her watch it already read 7:48
Sakura could only gasp and gave out a horrified expression. She wasn’t always the type for tardiness. She always showed up on time and kept that record straight up. That is until this fateful day.
‘This may sound lame but Kakashi sensei isn’t there yet anyways. And Naruto always comes up after an hour. That leads to Sasuke probably training alone on the training grounds.’
‘heh. This is never happening again.’ She thought.
After a few minutes of sprinting Sakura managed to arrive at the rendezvous.
and spot the boy she endeared.
“Hn, youre late.” Sasuke said as she arrived at 7:56 almost 8.
Sakura cursed mentally. “Ah! Sasuke-kun! I’m sorry. It took a while for us and the medic team to complete the formula but all is well and-!”
but was cut off by Sasuke already close enough within range. And soon enough he grasped her wrist that was injured. She hissed from the pain.
It was still bleeding profusely. ’I had completely forgotten about that!’ Sakura gasped in surprise.
“What happened?” Sasuke asked as he inspected the wound. “ah-! Eeeh. S-sasuke-kun” she said muttering lamely. She just had to act all shy whenever he was this close.
“You should take care of yourself more Sakura.” Sasuke said. as he puled out some ointments and bandages.
“It gets really annoying.” As Sasuke wrapped her wounds with the bandages.
She couldn’t see his expression because of his hair blocking her view. But she knew that he only cared. Yet seeing him like this only made her feel like a burden. The thought of his wrist having the same injury as hers were quite beguiling.
But she had intentionally cut her wrist this way so she could let him know that she noticed.
"Please, do the the same." She gave a somewhat pleading look as she replied secretly muttering the words and looked away immediately.
Sasuke caught sight of her expression and heard everything she said.
Sakura already knew what his wounds meant the very first time she saw it.
although the thought was so unbelievable she knew everything was possible no matter how much she wanted to deny herself she knew that he did it to himself intentionally. and he was suffering more intensely and was keeping it to himself alone again.
"What do you mean?" He asked in assumption. and stopped at his actions.
"Iiie! w-what? I didn't say anything" she all but said ridiculously.
'I guess I'm not quite ready to face him with this matter, but I have to!' She thought nervously
"Tch whatever." He said as he continued to roll the bandage around her wound. She was acting all weird again.
He felt slightly good when the injury was covered from his view. But the very reminder of her wearing these bandages only made it worse. Because underneath his wrist protectors he also worse of them.
He had a personal pull from his gruesome feelings when he saw her with this kind of injury. And he knew very damn well what it was.
Sasuke being the teammate he was only worried for her well-being and seeing the sight of her wrist bleeding only made his stomach churn.
“Ah- Thank you. I’m sorry. But you see I had to cut myself so I could test out the poison with my blood. And cutting it this way will give out more sample so-” Sakura said in a weak tone.
This in turn only made Sasuke pause on what he was doing. His expression looked unreadable. But turned away immediately.
The intentions for both of them were downright different despite how the same process of the injury goes.
Her wound meant to save others. While his were to hurt himself.
Oh, the irony.
'tch, always hurting herself and helping others.'
He made the wrong assumption. And for the first time he was glad.
“Hn, whatever.” He said.
Ever since the events from the forest of death she had begun acting this way. And it irked him because he always noticed.
“Just, don’t do it again.” He muttered the last part and tied the final knot.
He was met with a deafening silence from her which was odd. And quite frankly she was staring at him with an intense expression. Something that she only gave out when she was so sure of something.
