The thing that makes me the most insane about Etho and Cleo is neither of them know that the other one is JUST as ride or die as them. They both consider each other allies and trust that alliance but they expect that when push comes to shove, the other will throw them under the bus. Like Cleo knew Etho wasn't going to straight up kill her but she never expected HELP from him. They were on opposite sides, it would have been justified for him to just leave her but he didn't. They're just cautious.

and the thing is that. I think being pretty certain their partner is a survivor who would cut their losses if they had to is practically a comfort for the two of them? between etho “gets Bdubs’s undivided loyalty and watches him die” and cleo “hold on until you can’t hold on anymore” they both WANT loyalty but I don’t know that they want to think their partner would die for them. so they look at the other one and think. they’re a survivor. a real one. they’re good at the game. they can see past each other because they’re so alike so when things get hard they’ll split up. because that’s for the BEST. it’s a comfort they don’t have to get too close. except, of course, that none of that is true and it was too late not to get too close from day one, but,
