So I discovered this page via Facebook ads, and I was mezmerized by the video content. It really shows just how much more skilled hand labourers are in other countries (coughcough developing nations), and the kinds of conditions they work in. They produce perfect items that we take for granted here in the soft, fat west, and I was surprised to learn just what kinds of things aren’t machine-made at all, but hand-done.

For example-- plastic patio furniture. All the artful holes in the plastic molding, you’d think they were cut and punched out by a machine, right? Wrong! Out there is some southAsian lady who’s knocking those plastic holes out with her bareass hands right now. A machine would be so much more efficient, but human labour is cheaper, for some reason.  On one hand: better to employ a real person so they can be paid for their work, plus machinery is expensive to keep and maintain. On the other hand: can this lady retire with a nice pension plz? No? Still has to work a second job to afford housing? Okay then. Not fair whatsoever, but that's capitalism.

Just sit and watch these people work for a while. It’s a whole different perspective of how almost all the mass-produced assembly products we enjoy and use here in North America aren’t just shat out by machinery. Nossir, that nice, ordinary, striped plate you bought at Walmart for eight dollars was hand-painted by some factory employee with really steady hands for fourteen cents.

Capitalist exploitation just feels all the more depressing, doesn’t it? But the workers in the trenches are just amazing to watch.

Oh, and-- you know how we’re carelessly destroying stuff for fun on Youtube and shit? Think about the hands that made it, and stop being so wasteful. *

*the only exception is that hydraulic press channel. They only do it once and then never again the same object. Also, super cool. XD
