The gender neutral term for Latino is Latine, not Latinx.
Every time I see someone using “latinx” it’s that situation of “tell me you’re not Latine without telling me you’re not Latine”.

something bothering is how when people say “learn your LGBT history” and so on but they always mean like, the LGBT history that took place in english speaking western countries exclusively, and how terms, labels are symbols made in these countries are the ones that should be used internationally but, LGBT history and culture in latin america, africa, asia, oceania and so on become this optional thing you can ignore with no issue.
and im not saying that usa and uk LGBT history isn’t important, it is, it is very important, but its so frustrating how some people inability to understand other cultures relationship to gender and sexuality gets LGBT+ people in other countries seen as idiots, maliciously ignorants, regressive and just like, not as good as LGBT activisim in USA and UK.
Like, “wo fie” a song by a trans ghanian woman is treated as a meme because in western standards is “goofy” even though this is activist fighting for their rights, LGBT people in latam are endless mocked for trying gender neutral language, because people who dont speak spanish/portuguese can’t relate the struggle of a very gendered language. the way people in countries where being LGBT+ is illegal get policed for how they protest. people would rather just say queer as umbrella instead of learning our own labels refering our gender or sexuality and then call us regressive for using these instead of something very inclusive coined in english.
we should learn LGBT+ history and culture, and LGBT+ activism in USA and UK is very, very important, I’m just saying African, LatinAmerican, Asian and international LGBT history and culture should get the same interest. Or atleast respect and empathy.

Hi maia i just wanted to thank you for genderqueer i found it the other day in my library and translated into my language no less! There isn't a lot of progressive talk about trans issues in Poland and the translation of your book was the first book about nonbinary person in my language that i think i've ever seen. I never thought i would ever get to read it because the shipping prices are so high so i genuinely cried while i saw it on the shelf. I don't know how involved you are in translation process but it was such a well done job and the note the translators wrote at the beginning tought me more about nonbinary culture in my country than i've ever hoped i would get to know. Also I was wondering do you consult with translators what set of pronouns to use in other languages? I imagine it's a hard decision when the gender neutral pronouns don't have a direct counterpart. Sorry for rambling and thank you once again for this amazing book and for sharing your story <3
Thank you so much for this message! I am so glad you were able to find a Polish version! Polish and Czech were some of the very first foreign translations we sold, and I remember being very surprised, but very happy, because it was a few years ago when I was starting to hear about a rising wave of conservative politics in Poland. But a publisher took a chance on it and I'm very grateful <3
Yes, I generally consult on every single translation, for exactly the reason you pointed out: pronouns are different in every language! Some languages already have a widely used gender neutral pronoun set. Some languages have one that's new, but being developed by trans and nonbinary people today (like elle in Spanish). Some languages don't have any gendered pronouns to begin with! Because the English edition contains two different nonbinary pronoun sets (they/them/theirs and e/em/eir) we also have to decide how to distinguish between the two. What I always tell the translation team is: I would rather the translation be useful than faithful. I don't want to try and replicate the English. I want the book to demonstrate a pronoun set that could be practically used in the language it's being read in.
Generally, the publisher hires a professional translator and then often a second person who is trans or nonbinary to read over the translation and to write a forward, such as the Polish edition has. I believe the French edition has a forward as well. The only other language aside from English I can read halfway decently is Spanish, so I am always really glad to hear from someone who has read any of the other versions saying it was well done!
And for anyone else interested in Gender Queer in other languages, currently it has been released in Spanish, Polish, Czech, French, Italian, and Dutch with Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), German, Japanese, and Korean forthcoming.

Meet My MC!✨
After seeing my two Discord servers have RP channels and never being able to participate cause I don’t have a dedicated OC, I gave into the FOMO and decided to create one. This is my fourth HL character but the first one I’ve ever fleshed out and given a back story.
So with that, meet Kamila Cortes! ✨
General
Name: Kamila Cortes (kuh-me-lah)
Nickname: Kami
Gender: Female
House: Slytherin
Age: 18
Blood Status: Half Blood
Nationality: Spanish/British
Wand: 10in, Holly, Unicorn Hair, Solid
Patronus: a goat
Scent: Rose and Vanilla
Birthday: April 9th (Aries)
Other info: Fluent in English and Spanish, semi-fluent in Portuguese.
Appearance
General: Kamila is short, measuring at 152.4 cm (5ft 1in). She is a bit on the bustier side with a soft stomach, but overall is slender and petite.
Facial appearance: She’s fair skinned with blue eyes and long voluminous dark brown hair, usually tied in a long braid.
Distinguishing Marks: She has a small faint collection of freckles on her upper cheeks.
Fashion: Kamila prefers to wear dark colors and neutral colors, opting for blacks, whites, greys, and her favorite color, emerald green. She alternates between wearing skirts and trousers, tied between the femininity offered by a skirt, and the mobility offered by trousers.
Personality
Strengths: Kamila has the loyalty of a Hufflepuff. Although she keeps her circle of friends incredibly small, once someone is considered in her circle, she’ll go to bat for them, defending them against anyone who dares wrong them. She is incredibly determined, and stops at nothing to reach her goals. She is a good listener, and gives great advice despite not following her own advice. Kamila is passionate and fiery, with an infectious energy about her.
Weaknesses: Growing up as a wealthy only child has made Kamila a bit spoiled and stuck up, becoming upset and vengeful at times when she doesn’t get her way. Kamila can be hotheaded and fiesty, and has a habit of acting before thinking, frequently getting into physical altercations with other students, especially those who bully her/her friends.
Morality: Kamila likes to think she’s morally sound, defending and protecting her loved ones, but her methods are sometimes wrong. She is ultimately very self serving, and won’t hesitate to use others outside of her friends to get what she wants.
Likes: Kamila enjoys cooking and baking, as her mother was a cook prior to marriage, and showed her a lot back when she lived in Madrid full time. Before she learned how to conjure up a full kitchen in her Room of Requirement, Kamila could be found sneaking into the Hogwarts kitchens at night, begging the house elves to let her use the oven. Her love language is feeding her friends. Kamila also loves Potions, reading, architecture, and relaxing in the courtyards.
Dislikes: Spiders, people who treat magic as if it’s evil, sports of any kind.
Fears: Not amounting to anything in life, something bad happening to her loved ones, especially her mother, loneliness, losing her family’s fortune and status.
Hopes: Once done with Hogwarts, Kamila hopes to open up a restaurant or a bakery. While she would prefer to do this back home in Madrid, she’s not opposed to fulfilling this dream in England or Scotland, if a love interest keeps her there.
Friends: Kamila considers Ominis, Sebastian, and Garreth to be her closest friends. Kamila and Ominis confide in each other often, Kamila being a shoulder to cry on and a helpful aid to Ominis. Despite being upset with some of the things Sebastian has done in the past, she remains supportive of Sebastian, even during the times where they were distant with each other. Kamila and Garreth briefly dated, but the relationship wasn’t serious, and the pair remain friends. (Not including this in the RP stuff but I wanted to write some head cannons for friends, enemies and love interests)
Enemies: Kamila frequently tortures Duncan. Why? Because Ominis doesn’t like him. That’s the only reasoning she needs. Kamila also doesn’t get along with Imelda, Imelda thinking Kamila is a stuck up brat, and Kamila thinking that Imelda is just jealous. (Not including this in the RP stuff but I just wanted to write some head canons for friends, enemies and love interests)
Love Interest: Ever since their first meeting in the Slytherin common room years ago, Kamila and Ominis have been inseparable. What began as a friendship based in trauma bonding eventually grew into a desperate need and desire for each other. After two years of friendship, they decided to take the next step and start a relationship together. They are deeply in love, Sebastian often referring to them as a unit by the nickname “Kaminis”. Kamila also briefly dated Garreth for a few months before her and Ominis made things official, and she briefly had a crush on Sebastian (and he had a crush on her) but the events of 5th year killed her feelings for him. (Not including this is the RP stuff but I just wanted to write some head canons for friends, enemies, and love interests)
Backstory: Kamila is an only child to her parents, Elizabeth and Jose Cortes. Jose is of Spanish origin and a muggle, while her mother is of English origin, and a witch. Jose is a top general for the Spanish royal army, and a close friend and confidant of the king of Spain. As a result, Kamila and her family live in luxury. Prior to learning of her magical abilities, Kamila mainly resided in Madrid, but often visited England and Scotland due to having family members there from her mother’s side. Since starting at Hogwarts, she has spent more time in England, staying at her grandparents’s home when school is not in session, and only returning home to Madrid during the summer holiday.
When Kamila exhibited no magical abilities at 11 years old, Kamila’s parents breathed a sigh of relief. Growing up in a predominantly Catholic country and surrounded by the extremely religious royal family, Kamila would forever be labeled as a demonic entity and would be in danger if she had inherited her mother’s magical abilities. While Jose was accepting of Elizabeth being of a magical bloodline, Jose’s family and the royal family would not have accepted this; thus Elizabeth made the choice to hide her magic when they got married, only displaying magic in the privacy of their own home. Elizabeth fainted the day a 14 year old Kamila made a teapot levitate off the table.
At first, Kamila’s parents wanted her to fully suppress her magical abilities to avoid hardship in her life. This caused many arguments between Kamila and her parents, Kamila being fascinated with her ability, and her mother’s history, which she had never been told about previously. It was ultimately Kamila’s grandmother who convinced Kamila’s parents to allow her the chance to go to school and hone her magic, under the condition that she keep her abilities a secret to all besides her parents and maternal family. Jose crafted a story that his daughter was going off to study at some prestigious school in London, which Jose’s circle believed. Nowadays, Kamila has a good relationship with her parents, understanding that they were just doing what they thought was best for their daughter at the time.

Eyeless jack x latina reader (gender neutral)
Autor's note: i never seen any headcannon about latin American s/os in any fandom, so i decided to do it myself. This is for central America, South America, Brazilians, and Latinos in the USA or born there. The title says Latina but can be for any gender.
The headcannons:
- At first he doesn't care much about it, but over time he gets more and more interested and curious about your culture.
- he'd love to see you speaking Spanish/Portuguese, because your voice sounds so satisfying, even if he doesn't understand anything.
- and because he doesn't understand anything when you speak your native language, he'll try to learn Spanish/Portuguese just to impress you.
- he would want to learn about your country's culture.
- he would spend hours talking about your country and its culture, he likes to learn new things, especially from the person he loves.
- if someone is racist or anything with you, the next day that person will be gone.
- he likes to see you dressing like your country's culture and expressing yourself, your happiness is his happiness too.
- he finds your mixed features interesting and that they make you more beautiful and unique.

Not going to lie chief the way usamericans, brits, and canadians expect every single queer person from different cultures to behave the exact same way they do and have the exact same culture they do is grating and annoying and makes me want to peel my skin off
The amount of times I had to explain to usamericans, as a brazilian, that many people from different languages use neopronouns out of necessity because there are NO GENDER NEUTRAL FUCKING PRONOUNS in languages like portuguese, spanish, french, etc only to be met with "well they're speaking ENGLISH so they HAVE TO do things OUR WAY"
The amount of times I was told to kill myself over having ele/dele in my bio, for being a "cringe neopronoun user who is making a mockery of REAL trans people", when that is just "he/his" in portuguese. Having to take their hand and explain how to put two and two together with the ele/dele, my posts in portuguese, and the brazilian flag in my bio, only for me to be told "how was I supposed to know? This is the internet. Speak english."
How many times have I seen latino transvestites and transexuals get harassed to the point of deletion over you gringos getting angry and upset over THEIR OWN IDENTITIES. Because you are all fucking nosy cunts who expect everyone to behave how YOU want them, expect them to exist how YOU want them to.
You're no different than the homophobes you claim to hate if you can't just leave people the fuck alone and hate them for being something your discourse poisoned brain can't handle. You fucking idiots need to learn to mind your god damned business and realize people are allowed to do whatever the fuck they want with their identities.
Sorry someone you never met using labels that make you "uncomfy uwu" to the point you need to cry about it and mock them online. You're a pathetic loser. Sorry someone being queer in a way that isn't up to your americanized standards isn't good enough for you so they're fake queers who need to be ostracized and dealt with. You're pathetic.
I fucking hate the usamericanization of queerness. You're all fucking boring.

If Reina goes to her father for logical advice, she goes to her mother for more emotional advice. It's because of Esmeralda that Reina has a love of the arts in all sorts of forms.

{ shioli kutsuna , 30 , cis woman , she / her } we are so glad to see you safe , ROYAL ADVISOR SUZUME SŌ of JAPAN ! it's dangerous out in the world these days , but i hear that you are DRIVEN and RUMINATIVE enough to handle it . just don't let your IRASCIBILITY bring you down ! stay on your guard , because with your secret being at risk for exposure , you wouldn't want everyone to find out YOU ARE THE PRODUCT OF AN AFFAIR WITH A COMMONER .
BASICS .
FULL NAME : sō - toshiko suzume .
ETYMOLOGY : SUZUME : a reading of the kanji 雀 " sparrow . " it can also be read as suzu or saku , among others .
NICKNAMES & ALIASES : SUZU and SUZU - CHAN are reserved for family and close friends , and she's used names starting with " SAKU - " as aliases when she wants to go incognito . she may have others , but doesn't like them much ; i don't see her being too fond of nicknames .
TITLE : lady of the sō clan of tsushima , advisor to the japanese imperial family .
BIRTHDAY & AGE : february 14 ( 30 ) .
GENDER : cis woman .
PRONOUNS : she / her / hers .
ORIENTATION : bisexual biromantic .
STATUS : betrothed to tba .
LANGUAGES SPOKEN : japanese , mandarin chinese , korean , dutch , english , spanish , portuguese , others .
TRAITS : driven , ruminative , irascible , aloof , moralistic . lawful neutral .
HISTORY .
the first - born child of a younger brother to the late emperor and a daughter of a prominent military leader . her mother's family , the sō clan of tsushima island , was ( and remains ) influential , both domestically and abroad , in spite of the family home's distance from the capital .
being raised in a major port city and trading hub , suzume came across people from all walks of life , picking up a number of vocational and language skills alongside her education at home . this unique upbringing , as well as her family's tenure as servants to the toshikos , convinced the emperor and empress to invite their niece to the capital on a more permanent basis .
court in honshu was vastly different from what she imagined : full of manipulation , deceit , and backstabbing . but suzume aspired to stay true to herself — to remain honest — and root out the corruption she witnessed . for one day , she would advise her younger cousin , helping mold him into a fair and just leader . and she wouldn't feel right in doing so if she herself weren't morally upright .
despite her years of experience at court , navigating crises and providing counsel , suzume is a bit lost with her aunt and uncle gone . but she knows she must make kaito great , and bring glory to their family . and so , her own troubles must take a backseat for the time being .
HEADCANONS .
enjoys fishing , sailing , hunting , and archery . since childhood , she's never been too fond of staying indoors , unless it was for her studies .
her last name , legally , is " sō - toshiko , " taken from both parents' surnames . unusual , but suzume's always kind of liked it . since becoming an active government official , though , she's dropped the imperial surname in most conversations .
suzume has no desire to take the throne for herself . no , kaito can be the face of the royal family — after all , he's malleable , someone she can shape into whatever she deems fit for a ruler . but she has a lot of genuine love for him too , and believes she has his best interest at heart , so she wants to ensure kaito has a smooth transition into power , and has room to grieve if he wants . for now , anyway .
found out the truth about her parentage just after the emperor and empress passed . in a moment of … vulnerability ? guilt that her husband was suddenly wrought with grief ? suzume's mother revealed something that she had never told another soul : on the day of her wedding , the first time she met the prince face - to - face , she was already pregnant .
for suzume , this revelation doesn't change that the prince is the man who raised her , the one she calls " father . " but she knows that if the truth ever came out , it may color others' opinions of her , and cast doubt over her abilities .
her mother also refuses to say more about her biological father . all suzume knows is that he served the sō clan in some capacity , and allegedly perished during a famine some years ago . suzume is skeptical of that last point .
has a younger brother named hayato , who's almost 20 years her junior .
maintains a small group of informants ( they are not spies , she'll deny that up and down ) , who keep her apprised about the everyday subjects within court and japan as a whole ; what they need most , what they're talking about . they're referred to as " the sparrow's little birds . "
WANTED CONNECTIONS .
BETROTHED ( ALSO ON THE MAIN ! ) : someone suzume loves very much , but at the moment is quite hot and cold with as she grapples with friction in her life ( mourning her aunt and uncle , trying to steer her cousin in the right direction . oh , and rethinking whether they should even be married in the first place ) . influential in their home court , which is the reason suzume is suddenly digging her heels in . 27 to 40 .
FRIENDS & ACQUAINTANCES : though her habit of keeping others at arms - length may make it seem otherwise , suzume does in fact have friends . they're few and far between , yes , but she has them . definitely the sort to have politically - motivated friendships as well .
FOES & ADVERSARIES : suzume's reputation as a virtuous government official can easily be turned on its head — she can definitely be too much . at best , you'll get a holier - than - thou lecture on the importance of doing the right thing , and at worst , she can be what the kids call a " snitch . " she also just … doesn't like a lot of people , finding even the smallest , most negligible flaws or slights to be a major fault .
ARTIST FRIEND : an artist ( musician , dancer , poet , painter , etc ) who suzume first met when they arrived at hitakatsu port on tsushima . they struck up a friendship , and when suzume was called to kyoto , they went with her , where she introduced their skills to the imperial court .
HER BIO DAD : i'll be completely honest and say that i have no idea how this would work . but it could be very interesting imo .

About Those Act II Cards
Some time ago I mentioned how a few of the humanoid cards in Act II are actually referred to as female in many localizations of Inscryption - specifically the ones for languages with less avoidable grammatical gender.
And I thought, why not make a quick list of all those cards? For those that might be interested to know.
--
So here we go, the relevant cards are...
Tomb Robber:
(In French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese)
Master Orlu:
(In German, Spanish and Portuguese)
Gourmage:
(In German, Italian and Spanish)
Orange Mage:
(In German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian)
and Hover Mage:
(In German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian)
-
Also, exclusively in French, the Mantis God is Mantis Goddess instead:
I feel this partciular one might be because “mante” (“mantis”) itself is a feminine word in French?
--
Not counting the exclusively French Mantis Goddess, I do find it interesting that these other five cards are pretty consistently referred to as female in localizations.
It’s not completely consistent like for the Melter and Inspector whom I talked about before, but it’s still notable that it’s speficially these five.
Like before, I think it’s quite possible that this isn’t a coincidence, but rather official details regarding these cards.
--
While this is just one example out of all of them, it should be noted that Magnificus’ game at the end of the main story does portray Orange Mage as looking feminine:
Which of course would go with the localizations of more gendered languages referring to this card with feminine terms if there was no neutral variant.
--
In any case, I was personally glad to see this when first playing through the German version, because it’s such a common thing for localizations here to just use masculine language as the default for everything.
So if this is an intentional detail, the gesture is appreciated.

Day 27: Burly Duck
A duckverse OC I rarely use and I needa use him for something. Ahhh.
Commission done by @mistress-negs
His name is Kosoko Noah Kunda. When he was younger he was part of a group that fought elder gods. Different agents in the group are named with different zodiac symbols. His was Agent Taurus, not to be confused with FOWL’s Agent Taurus.
Not gonna lie, this character is heavily influenced by Grin from Mighty Ducks the animated series. LOL. Kosoko is not as buddhism vibe as Grin, but he is a gentle giant. A good listener and knows not all situations are black and white. He will listen to input on both sides before taking action.
Because of the previous god fighting group he was in, he does have some spell casting skills. He doesn’t look like your usual spell caster though which is fun to play with. Seeing someone doing physical fighting and the bad guy thinks he has them pinned and then they suddenly cast some magic to get out. Or thinking he's a magic caster and doing something to stop magic from working, but then he’s still muscular so he just starts punching the bad guy instead. LOL. Bad guy returns his magic to stop Kosoko from hitting them lol.
ANYWAYS. Here’s his RP bio:
About:
Full Name: Kosoko Noah Kunda (Often goes by his last name with no Mr. before it.)
Species: Shoebill
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Complicated
Occupation: Paranormal Enforcer & Protectorate
Birthday: September 23rd
Birthplace: Zambia, Africa
Current Residence: Usguaia, Argentina
Current Occupation: Currently assigned to be the protectorate of a lost golden city, so he really doesn’t have much to do.
Languages Spoken: English, Latin, Spanish, French, Swahili, Arabic, Zulu, Afrikaans, Portuguese, Tonga, Bemba, Kaonde, and rough on a few others.
Religious Beliefs: There’s a lot going on, isn’t there? His philosophy is to stay calm and listen to all sides.
Abilities, Skills, and Powers: Though Kunda is a soft spoken gentle giant, he does have an amount of super strength. He can lift a school bus with ease. He has enchanted gauntlets that protect his hands when making thunderous punches. Despite having super strength he is not invincible. He’s broken a few bones back in the day. He also has a bit of empathic abilities. Doesn’t work as strongly on people as it does on non-domesticated animals. He is knowledgeable on many varieties of ‘mythical’ animals. He also has some strength and shielding based summons he can make appear. He has a short list of magical force blow spells and basic healing spells he can do as well.
Physical Appearance: Tall, muscular, and grey feathered big. Definitely looks like he hits the gym. Though Shoebills already have unusually textured bills, there seems to be a few scars that blend in with the natural markings.
Usual Attire: Likes neutral colors that match is feathers. He’s already tall and sculpted. Doesn’t want any other attention drawn to himself.
Weapons: Uses a titanium bo staff at times, but usually has to rely on his fists.

in lusophone communities, people associate neopronouns with xenopronouns or nounself pronouns (but they are very performative in portuguese because our language isn't only about pronouns, eg. suffixes (-e/-o/-a) and grammatical articles (a/o/ê, um/uma/ume)). but elu and ile are technically neopronouns. and delu & dile are contractions, not pronouns lol. ê is a neoarticle (neoartigo, pesquise). and people try to call neosuffixes as neodesinences but not every suffix/word ending is a desinence. suffix is also a generalization.
enfim, I study it a lot because it's part of my hyperfocus/hyperfixation. and these are forms of neolanguage (neolinguagem, pesquise). in spanish community they reject the term because it sounds like neolengua (newspeak/novílingua, a term used by (anti)stalinists). neolanguage includes neoarticles and neosuffixes, neoconjuncts (neoconjuntos, such as u/ilu/-y).
some people also reject the term gender-neutral language as a way to group all neolanguage, because not every neopronoun is neutrally gendered and they try to unlink/unleash gender from it (because women also use neopronouns and it doesn't make them any less female because of it). but sometimes I find these conceptualizations as too idealistic. in an everyday world, I prefer handy terms or to be simple for lay people. more like homocore situationism
Unfortunately I think it’s going to take a long time until people actually start using those pronouns (besides the LGBTQ+ community).
But this is very interesting to know, thank you for the information!

genuinely don't understand the hatred some folks have for the use of latine/latinx as a gender neutral term for the community. i understand that latinx doesn't make sense linguistically (in portuguese or spanish) but have not seen any valid criticisms for latine that isn't just thinly veiled transphobia??? also, in terms of pronouns, romance languages are incredibly gendered by nature, but this actually lends itself to a non-binary pronoun arguably better than english because a pronoun (ex elle or elu) will only refer to one person, whereas in english they/them is often used to refer to multiple people so like. i don't understand why people are so against taking a step to be inclusive?

⸺ THREE , BACKGROUND .
you never asked for the duty of the firstborn , yet it fell upon your shoulders nonetheless . the apple of your father’s eye , his devotion made it for the love you lost when your mother was ripped by death from the hands of your five-year-old self , skinny and shy , barely old enough to understand the meaning of loss .
however , what is mourning when you have a higher call ? you didn’t have much time to grieve your mother , and by the age he came along , you had forgotten her face , her voice , her soothings , the only memory left behind in the walls of your childish mind was her laugh , and the laughs she pulled out of you with it . everything left was duty , your training waiting for nothing to start , to shape you into what you were supposed to become , to make you great .
julian came as a beacon of hope , as stitches for a wound you’ve had opened for a time that felt too long . his golden locks and brilliant blue eyes were your salvation the moment you held him in your arms , and purpose filled you for the first time — duty didn’t seem so excruciating when it was about him , about protecting him , about loving him . the devotion you got from your father boiled inside you and dripped upon julian’s crown , bathing him in your protection , and you swore right then and there that protecting him and loving him will be above everything . later , you’d realize you’ve put him even above yourself . what a mistake .
your training is excruciating , merciless — you thrive in it anyway . and then , when he joins , when he’s old enough to not get hurt by your strength and your ability , he thrives with you . the same weapon of choice , both of you become one , silently understanding each other , knowing every move , pushing the other further , beyond . ( is this like having a parabatai ? you ask one afternoon , after a specially tough session , after both of you are left spent and battered but content , satisfied with the improvement and the validation . more or less answers your father with a wistful smile , it is stronger , i believe . you find it outrageous , ridiculous , senseless . nothing is stronger than a siblings’ bond ) .
but some things are , you’d discovered soon enough . you’re twenty-six when he leaves , not a single word thrown your way , no explanation , even when you have a strong hunch about his reasons … you still don’t understand . wrath hugs you like a heavy blanket in a scorching summer afternoon , and you can’t get rid of it for years . it feels like treason , that heaviness between your lungs , it barely allows you to breathe some days , so you turn to the only duty you have left: you train and hunt and kill , because it is what you were born to do , what had been with you even before him . you kill with purpose and sometimes with malice , letting go of the fury that still possesses your body , letting it out in the only way that doesn't hurt others ( or yourself ) .
and then he returns . he comes back but not to you . he’s different , and you ste too . your rage has turned you into something he was not familiar with before his farewell — there’s fury but there’s also love still , and that simmers in your insides , scorching you from the inside out . because you still love him , you always will , it’s a vow not made with your voice but with your soul .
⸺ FOUR , HEADCANONS .
i. kiet is very studious and diligent but not in a books - way but in a physical way . to her , her physical training is the most important thing and she’s often looking to learn new techniques and perfect them , pushing herself to be better , to do better .
ii. despite disliking reading when it comes to theory and academics , she harbors a deep love for fiction . her favorite genres are thriller and horror .
iii. one of the things she’s the most proud of , even today , even after her brother’s abandonment , is the way he chose his weapon because of her .
iv. she owns a golden heart - shaped locket gifted by julian , it has two pictures of them inside , and she has never taken it off , not even when the rage of his departing took hold of her .
v. you can alway see her snacking , mostly nuts , but sometimes fruit . she’s restless and food helps her tremendously with it .
⸺ FIVE , WANTED CONNECTIONS .
#01. shadowhunters she works well with ( 0 / 3 ) . — as simple as titled: fellow shadowhunters who aren’t parabatai but understand each other deeply and that makes them a good team .
#02. a sparring / training partner ( 0 / 1 ) . — as stated , kiet is constantly pushin herself further , and she’s very enthusiast about her physical trainin . having someone who fuels that side and also make it fun would be amazing .
#03. a confidant ( 0 / 1 ) . — this person is someone , aside from her parabatai , who kiet trusts completely . they are the person who knows about her struggles with julian’s departing and how deeply wounded she is because of it .
#04. a fling and / or romantic interest ( 0 / 1 ) . — someone good who often soothes her , who is with her in her low and bad moments and doesn’t run in the opposite direction because of it . it can be casual or serious , that’s totally up to discussion and plotting !
#05. downworlders she works with ( 0 / 3 ) . — with whom she has an amicable and reciprocal relationship — she takes as much as she gives , and as kind as she is , her view of downworlders is quite good , she sees them as equal , as talented assets that must be appreciated .
#06. an antagonist downworlder ( 0 / 1 ) . — of course , not all of them are nice and easy to work with , but this particular downwordler often gives her a hard time and gets on her nerves , which makes things worst because they frequently have to work together .

Seeing people trying to call us "latinx" is so funny, firstly considering that we can't just end a word with two consonants in Spanish (probably also not in Portuguese, as they're similar languages, not sure), so that's my personal reason to dislike it, but also. Lmao. You'll surely get an attack helicopter joke if you try to say that here lol. Just say latine or latin@ if you're online or writing, like ending gendered word with E is the MOST that could be tolerated here, because we usually just use the masculine as the gender neutral

History: Neoma doesn’t remember any of the couple of years she spent with her real family, only having been told she is the oldest of three siblings; she was taken to Biarritz, France, when she was 2 and ½ years old, and left at an adoption center, where her younger brother, Haemon was
The two spent 6 months at the center before being adopted by Séraphine and Nima, and the new siblings lived first in Italy, in a community of small Elementals, for several years until they moved back to France, growing up in the city of Nice
While Haemon was ready to take on any challenge from any kid who tried to give the two trouble, Neoma took on the role of the negotiator, keeping her and her brother out of trouble with adults and the schools they attended; she made it a goal to stay in the favor of the adults around them because she, as well as her brother, knew people were weary of non-humans living in the community and the last thing she wanted was to be suspected
This practice, along with the history of the cities she lived in, gave Neoma the inspiration to become an anthropologist, as human behavior, culture, etc fascinated her.

In your reblog about how easy it is for English people to use gender neutral language, what do you suppose the solution is? /gen
What can English-speaking people do to aid French and Spanish speakers in creating a more gender-neutral world? Definitely its harder for languages with gendered nouns to adopt gender neutral language, but I don't think anyone's suggesting that Spanish and French get rid of gendered nouns. The article listed was talking about getting rid of masculine language in US laws: "For example, rather than using “he,” the law should use “the Secretary” when referring to the head of a federal agency, or rather than a “fireman,” laws should reference a “firefighter.”"
So I guess I'm wondering: should English-speakers not use more gender-inclusive language while they wait for French and Spanish speakers to catch up or find a solution? Should they not change it because a large portion of the rest of the world supposedly can't?
Basically I'm hoping for some more constructive thought on this, bc why are we talking about it like it's an impasse. it's definitely hard for languages that use masculine and feminine nouns etc. to eradicate gendered language altogether, but doesn't the gender-neutral focus only have to be centered around people who choose not to use gendered language for themselves?
Other languages have done it. Swedish uses gender neutral pronouns, and some Spanish speakers have introduced e as a gender neutral alternative. They didn't get rid of the masculine and feminine in their language altogether, just around nonbinary or gnc people.
I just don't know what the alternative might be.
Yeah well Germanic languages like English, Dutch, Norwegian, and other are easier to come up or adopt gender-neutral vocabulary. Latin languages, however, (French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese) aren't as simple since Latin was a gendered language. I can only really speak for French since it's the only other language I speak so here we go.
Here's the conjugation for the verb talk
Je parle (I talk)
Tu parles (you talk, singular)
Il/elle parle (he/she talks)
Nous parlons (we talk)
Vous parlez (you talk, plural)
Ils/elles parlent (they talk)
Notice how even though I added an S to il and elle to make it plural, it still means "they". "Ils" means "they" unless you're referring to a 100% female subject, then you would use "elles", even if you're talking about 99 guys and 1 girl, it's still "ils". So by the French rules, ils is technically gender neutral. A lot of French rules only become feminine is you add an E at the end. Example; UN directEUR (a school principal, masc), UNE directRICE. It only takes a few letters at the end of the word to switch it from masculine to feminine. I don't know if there's anything we can do for Latin languages or at least French since they're really specific and picky.
