A Snippet Shared | Minthara x Karlach

There's no real tag game motivation behind this, but I'm proud of this snippet and not sure when I'll finish the larger oneshot it is a part of, so I'm putting it here for now.

Note: Set post-canon, with Minthara and Karlach in Avernus together.

Karlach, gracious in victory – at least this once – doesn’t belabor her point. And she, too, is undoubtedly impatient to take advantage of this potential windfall. “Now, don’t go expecting some grand beacon of hospitality. We’ll be slumming it with the finest dregs Zariel’s legions leave behind them, b-u-t—four walls! That’s basically the Elfsong, at this point!”

Minthara nods, deadpan, as she agrees with Karlach’s determination. “An apt comparison, my love. The music certainly sounds similar enough.”

Karlach nods enthusiastically, half her quick-paced mind already mapping out the path before them as she scans the desolate horizon. Minthara waits for the constant background noise of Avernus – the wails of doomed petitioners forming a melody with the snarls and clashes of distant engagements – to filter back into her hearing. Karlach has proven quicker and quicker to pick up on her little jests, and this one was surely obvious enough—There. Karlach whirls back around, pointing at her accusatorily. 

“You—you! The music is similar, oooh! How many of those little jokes did you slip past everyone back then?”

Minthara smiles, slow and toothy. “More than you would ever believe, dear one.”

I was trying to make an AU for every Gale ending and I finally figured out how to make the god couple ending work so I had to make a new look for him 😌

Even though he rejects it in all of his normal mortal timelines, I might have him go by his birth name (Meldri'lind meaning "beloved snake" in drow) again as a god because a.) it sounds more godly than Rhidyl and you know he's all about appearances lol and b.) So that his family may know his name and see that he has escaped their lies and proven than he is more than the tool they they reduced him to.

They told him since birth than he was destined for greatness but all of their promises were empty. He found his own way.

As the God of Tenacity (what I've decided on), overcoming and finding a way to carry on and succeed against all odds is very important to him so it fits his image well.

The virtue he embodies might make him a good failsafe for Gale's ambition as well, since Rhidyl's innate stubbornness and will to press on would have would have swelled to a defining trait in goodhood. They did not ascend out of pure selfishness or a thirst for power and he absolutely would never budge on that or allow Gale to cross that line, even as Gale inevitably strove for more.

Likewise, I think Gale's ambition could keep them on the path of growth, innovation, and positive change for their followers and their system of magic, as alone Rhidyl would have remained static and content in their current state.

When Gale comes to visit Petra and Astarion, he notices the sexual tension between the two of them.

“It wasn’t just Gortash who damned Karlach, and the other responsible still walks,” she says while Astarion stares at her notes in silence.

“Just once, darling, I’d rather you did something half-assed, rather than toss your whole ass into the fire. When do we leave?”

“I… I…”

Astarion levels her with a look. “Did you think I’d let you do this without me? Even if I were not terribly fond of you despite my own best judgement, you helped me kill Cazador. It would be poor form not to enable your own revenge mission, and I am nothing if not a gentleman.”

Bullshit; he’s no fucking gentleman, and she chuckles in response. “Maybe it’s stupid.”

“We’re well past ‘maybe’. It’s obscenely stupid to expect to slip into the hells to murder an archdevil in her own domain. Outright suicidal, even. Have you spoken to Yurgir?”

“Not yet; I figured I should talk to Wyll and see if he can get a message over to him.” While the details of Avernus politics are beyond her, she does understand that Wyll has promised not to target Yurgir, so there’s something resembling a ceasefire between the two of them. Perhaps even an alliance.

“Pen pals with an orthon who slept on a bed of corpses. Only you, my dear,” Astarion mumbles.

I’ve finally finished baldur’s gate 3!! This is absolutely one of my all time favorite games now, and the replay ability is insane, I already have 4 more ongoing characters and plans for many more) but I do honestly have some gripes about the endings. (Spoilers ahead)

Like, I get that it’s unrealistic that everything turns out well and everyone is completely fine, but at the same time, it’s a video game, let me be a delusional people pleaser and give everyone their best endings. I’m actually also really annoyed that if you free Orpheus, like I did, you have no choice and have to become a mind flayer (which, in retrospect is in line for Dahlia’s character, as she’s so self sacrificing to make up for her past mistakes that of course she would do this to save her friends and the world) but then if you don’t free Orpheus, you lose Lae’zel and Karlach?? Which again, I get losing Lae’zel, though I just wanna have every companion be fine and do what they want to do.

Thankfully I was mostly happy with the rest of the character endings I got, though I don’t think I should’ve encouraged Lae’zel to follow Orpheus at the end because she looked like she regretted it and wanted to stay, which absolutely broke my heart. And I’m also a little upset at the complete lack of closure my character, Dahlia got with Astarion after romancing him. I chose to follow Karlach and Wyll to Avernus, which otherwise, I would be happy with, and I don’t know if I would’ve gotten more closure if I didn’t follow them, and let them go ahead.

But other than these little gripes I have, it was of course such a wonderful experience playing this game, and I cannot wait to explore all the possibilities. I’m already super excited to fully start playing my full Durge Evil run, though at the same time, I know it’s gonna hurt.

So I think I might have had a glitch with my BG3 ending

So I convinced Karlach to go with Wyll to Avernus so she doesn't die, and Astarion ran off to avoid the sun coz he's not a Vampire Ascended.

But I got the new Avernus cut scene with Wyll as the player character with Karlach and didn't get any final dialogue with my Tav and romanced Astarion.

And I know it exists, I've seen the videos. So... what the heck? I need my fluff!!!! Is this a bug. Did I do something wrong so I didn't get the dialogue? Idk I'm very confused.

Some DnD bathroom lore for whoever is interested (for any reason)

Ehem, so, a brief of where this madness started. I was forming a story for my Tav giving a bath to her dearest wizard after the final battle and of course this lovely corner in Elfsong Tavern was a good spot for this plot. But then the big question struck me:

WAIT how does the plumbing works in DnD......??????

As a humble bard who can't summon water (preferably warm too), where am I suppose to get water and how do I get rid of a full bathtub after I am done??? Don't tell me I'll have to scoop it out of the window with my twigly str 8 arms… ✨Well here's a very informative article, thanks to the lovely writer, that I really want to share!✨ Okay, no wonder Gale likes to stay home. Another benefit from dating a wizard is you are likely to have magical bathrooms, something to think about when you are considering his proposal? XDDD

So I have already promised myself to never reload the campaign of my first BG3 character Lake And some might be tempted to reload an old character for the new ending content But it literally doesn't matter anyways because Lake fucking died 😭

(And no I will never reload and retcon this. That would cheapen the impact of their story and disrespect the character. I'll rather experience the new ending content with new characters)

I like the ending but I feel like it needed room to breath.

Like everyone decides in that very moment to stay or go (sometimes by dire need) I get like the scenery of the docks and stuff but I think they should have let you have a victory party where people start slipping out or vowing to stay with you. Feels like it just needed something. Of course to be fair I played a Tav. Still. I wonder if the origin endings are better.

Also not sure if bug but my Shadowheart didn't say anything about her plans at all she just kinda stood there. (Same with the druids and ranger although I guess because they're optional characters they just chat about what the others decide)

I need to experiment too but it feels like just Tav and Wyll can choose to join Karlach in Avernus and like I have La'zel who I promised to travel with since in my end she's cut off from both sides of the Gith conflict, but it seems like choice is overridden by romantic interest.

I feel like depending on what you choose you should have either all of those that stayed in Avernus with you (because let's be real that's just another arc of a dnd campaign) or sailing on a boat away from the gate if you choose to go with your friends with you. Or doing rebuilding things with those that stay in the city.

Maybe I'm greedy. Or maybe because of all the possible endings it kind of gets too jumbled.

Anyway still fabulous favorite game, ending just feels a little too quick. Although it may be due in part to the choices I made and the variables of how much they added. Might be better endings with different characters and choices.

Also alternatively maybe have a moment with everyone before the fight. You get that with allies but not with the main party.
