If you ask me for favorite anything, you're going to get just things I like that I can think of off the top of my head. So here are 10 fics I really like, in no particular order! Disclaimer that I haven’t read too much fic since ~2020-2021 other than what close friends have recommended, and these are just fics I’ve enjoyed a lot for one reason or another. It trends recent, for no reason other than that’s what I remember better.
far from born again, mediest (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Hollywood AU): Bojack Horseman meets his match in FE:3H in the form of Sylvain Jose Gautier.
Still Standing, eleventy7 (Harry Potter, Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood): Really great Percy character study, post-canon.
youngblood, ronsenburg (Ace Attorney, past Klavier Gavin/Daryan Crescend): I've talked about this fic in another recent ask.
crossfire, kittebasu (Daiya no Ace, post-canon): This fic is a half a million words long, but it's great.
days of brutalism and hairpin turns, cityboys (Blue Lock, Cyberpunk AU): cityboys is best known in the JJK fandom for the itafushi fic first love, late spring, but the technical chops in this one are so good. The control of information—what the reader knows vs. what the characters know and how that's revealed—is handled perfectly.
how to go, twoif (Kuroko no Basuke, Rock Band AU): Lots of content warnings in the endnotes of this one. Really clean prose, and I love how twoif adapts canon to this hyperspecific karaoke backing band AU.
what resembles the grave but isn’t (chashmish, The World Ends with You, post-canon): Three oneshots, all post-canon. JoshNeku is one of my favorite ships ever, and I've been a longtime fan of chasmish because of their Persona 5 fics.
when summer’s gone (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Ethereally, summer camp counselor AU): Disclaimer that Ethereally and I are friends, though we didn't become friends until a few years after this fic came out. My first interaction with them was screaming into the comment sections of this fic haha. Love the cozy vibes of this one!
Your Heart Ain’t Cold (Cause It Burns), umisabaku (Kuroko no Basuke): The entire series this fic is part of is amazing. This is the next to last entry and personally my favorite one. Mayuzumi's arc from apathy to becoming enmeshed in everything going on is 👌👌
horatio, perennials (Haikyuu, atsuhina, post-canon): Delicious imagery that sings off the page in this short series.
I’ve talked in a tag game from a few years back as to where my handle comes from. If you don't want to scroll through the entire thing, I've quoted it:
The actual origin story is that the ‘bitter’ part comes from Lemony Snicket, who said tea “should be bitter as wormwood and as sharp as a two-edged sword” somewhere in A Series of Unfortunate Events, which were some of my fave books as a kid. I like the moon a lot and there are a lot of cool myths and other stories associated with it, and the reason why it’s plural is because the singular form was also taken already, sadly.
As for why I’m bittermoonswrites instead of bittermoons on this site, that’s because someone else took the bittermoons handle already.

Hello hello! Oooh excellent question, let me pull up a few!
4115 campus drive (Iwaoi, Haikyuu, 1.9k): I started this fic in 2020 as Haikyuu's last arc was going on in the manga but couldn't figure out how to finish it until 2022. One of my friends getting super into Haikyuu in 2022 inspired me to return to it! So this fic is dedicated to her.
you’ve got nothing on my tendency (to be led astray) (BNHA, Dabihawks, 4.5k): This was inpired by a Zen Cho short story and a twitter meme I can't find anymore about demon summoning. the plot is that touya summons hawks (with his art student chalk circle drawing skills in the park) to deal with his father, but then hawks keeps asking for touya's hand in marriage. This one is special to me because it kind of popped out of nowhere after I got inspired by the memes--I still love it a lot.
there and back again (JJK, Stsg, 96k): LOL my longest fic. I had a bunch of external life things converge in 2022 in a bad way, plus I was thinking about quitting writing fanfic for the time being because it was taking away time from other writing and it wasn't fun--I had spent a lot of time writing speak too soon (my 20k stsg reality TV AU) that summer. Don't get me wrong, I think speak too soon is a great fic—I enjoyed diving into Gojo's POV enough to want to write more of it in a celebrity AU and some scenes still make me laugh while reading it—but I felt like I wasn't writing the kind of things I like reading the most and also kind of betrayed myself as an artist by changing it stylistically to fit the kinds of things I thought ao3 readers tended to like. So I decided to make there and back again one last hurrah of a longfic. I put everything I had into it and made it something I would have liked to read and reflected my personal taste accurately, and in the process of writing it, I discovered I wasn't done with fics. I think now that I will probably be writing fanfics forever—it'll ebb and flow with my life, of course, but I don't think I'll ever quit for good.

Don't you think it's funny cause actual canon gay characters in BL manga will say "I love you" but only the shounen bromance can spew out some of the most romantic shit akin to a 19th century poet writing a letter expressing his surpressed love for his lover 😭.....

Nah legitimately though I love subtext and reading too much into things. There was a post floating around here a while ago I can't find anymore about being a bad queer because you love being queerbaited and I have to confess that's me to a T!

Kuroko no Basket
Favorite Character: Kuroko Tetsuya. He isn't Shonen Hero Material—he isn't loud, flashy, and a smooth talker that's the center of attention. He's practically invisible! Nobody notices him! But he is our hero anyway. I love that the manga's name isn't Kagami's Basketball, it's Kuroko's Basketball. This is his game and how he wants to play it on his terms without living in the shadow of the Generation of Miracles.
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: Seirin vs. Touou at the Winter Cup
Character I Think is Underrated: Himuro Tatsuya, his foil potential to both Kagami and Murasakibara was excellent
Character I Think is Overrated: it's been a long time, I can't think of who I'd say is overrated

Something I Love About the Show/Movie: The animation still mostly holds up ten years later. Production IG was on the top of their game for the anime, and a lot of their sports anime since have disappointed me when it comes to animation quality.

Love to read your otps... Thanks for sharing them. Even if I'm not the one who asked, can I also asked your otps that you've written? Why you love them?
If you look at my ao3, the two ships with the most fics I’ve written are satosugu and dabihawks. I really like how good they both are for AUs, and there’s an element of ‘we could have figured this out if we had made different choices’ that you get for both of them. I also like writing them because the characters are all very fun.
For dabihawks, I have a weakness for Gothic horror, and Dabi and the Todorokis fit that bill nicely. Nothing is more Gothic than Dabi returning from the dead to defeat Endeavor haha. Hawks also has a lot of potential as a character.
The entirety of JJK’s canon wouldn’t have happened without satosugu’s divorce, and I feel like they deserve a happier ending than what they got. If they were in any other world, they could have had a shot at making it work, which keeps me writing. I really like how they complement each other and have the whole yin/yang thing going on.
Honestly, after I have a few fics for a ship, my fics are usually written in response to other fics I’ve written for said fandom/ship, like they’re in conversation with each other more than canon. For example, I wrote speak too soon and had a lot of fun digging in Gojo’s POV. I wanted to return to him and his issues with internalized homophobia in speak too soon, which became one of the many threads in there and back again.
There are ships I like as much as or more than the ones I’ve written for but I don't because I don't need to write them because the fandom has already taken care of that for me with tons of fics I like or canon has already me covered. From talking to my other fic writer friends as well, I think the set of ships people write and the set they like is a Venn Diagram for most writers and not the same set of ships. I write what I do usually because I like a character or a group of characters enough, there’s something I want to fix from canon (i.e. tragic endings), or I have a friend or friends egging me on (events fall into this category). I think a few of my blue lock fics from 2023 were written because of peer pressure and friends screaming into my DMs/Discord servers/etc.

Hi! Thanks for asking! The obvious answer would be the ships I've written fics for, but I'm going to limit this to ships I've never written just to make things interesting.
Count Olaf/Kit Snicket and Lemony Snicket/Beatrice Baudelaire (A Series of Unfortunate Events)
I've always been a huge fan, as far back as I can remember, of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I could never get into the TV series and I heard the show makes some changes to canon, but the implied, subtextual relationship between Olaf and Kit Snicket that ends in betrayal, arson, and intergenerational trauma is really Gothic and tragic in a way I love. Lemony Snicket's unrequited love for Beatrice Baudelaire and the tragedy that befalls the Baudelaire family fascinates me.
Jamie Lannister/Brienne of Tarth (A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones)
I love how they are foils to each other, and I think if they existed in any other universe they could bring the best out of each other. These two would be really good for AUs.
Akashi Seijuurou/Furihata Kouki (Kuroko no Basket)
Fun fact! I first ended up on Tumblr way back when to follow KnB writers and artists. This ship started off as a total crackship for me until the fandom fleshed it out, and then AkaFuri became my favorite Kuroko no Basket ship. Again a study in contrasts: Furihata struggles with anxiety while Akashi is basically a mini-politician, but they complement each other well.
Axl/Beatrice (The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro)
I think I've mentioned Kazuo Ishiguro in another ask before, but I'm a big fan. The Buried Giant takes place in Arthurian Britain, where everyone is suffering under a curse that takes away long-term memories, and Axl and Beatrice are an old couple that go on a journey in search of a son they don't remember. This book raises a lot of questions about whether it's better to forgive and forget in old relationships or whether it's better to remember, but Axl and Beatrice's love for each other is beautiful.
Bon (Kikuhiko or the 8th Yakumo Yurakutei)/Sukeroku (Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu)
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu ends in tragedy and the final twist at the very end of S2 made me go "Seriously? I'm just going to pretend that never happened" (lmao if you've seen if you'll know exactly what I'm talking about). If you haven't seen it, SGRS is about intergenerational trauma. The central character, Bon or later Kikuhiko, a rakugo performer born in the 1920s, struggles with societally-enforced homophobia and strict gender roles his entire life, and it's clear he was in love with his best friend and fellow rakugo performer Sukeroku, the definition of "work hard, play hard." Whether it was reciprocated canonically is up for debate, but Bon later ends up raising Sukeroku's daughter Konatsu alone. Bon's anger and a life of repression end up making him lash out at himself and his friends and family in his old age, and thinking about where he went wrong with Sukeroku and how tragic it is makes them such a great ship. I think he's one of most fully fleshed out characters I've seen in an anime, period. Because of the final twist at the end of S2, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, but the rest of the show is great.

Can I ask, your favorite media, like from books, anime/manga, movies, tv series, etc (if you feel like listing multiple) of all time?
I’m going to reframe this media that changed how I saw something important at some point in my life, since if you ask me for favorite anything, you’ll just get what I’ve been recently been watching/reading.
Vagabond (Sans toit ni loi, dir. Agnés Varda 1985): I watched this movie when I was 18, and it left a deep impression on me about what it means to be a woman in our world. This is a fictional film made in a mockumentary style that starts with the main character’s death and works backwards.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: I don’t even know if it’s good or not at this point. I’ve just been a huge fan for over 10 years, which means I’m stuck with it for the rest of my life.
The Nonary Games (9 Hours 9 Doors 9 Lives, Virtue’s Last Reward, Zero Time Dilemma): Math-based sci-fi horror visual novels for the soul :) Never has math been so terrifying yet so fun! They’re kind of deeply fucked up on an existential level, but I enjoyed these games a lot.
K-Ming Chang: K-Ming Chang has been a major inspiration for me as a writer the past few years. The way she writes about folklore, queerness, diaspora, intergenerational trauma, and mothers and daughters has been deeply eye-opening and awe-inspiring. I'm a huge fan. I’ve read pretty much everything’s she’s published and look forward to whatever she writes next. There was an interview a few years ago that called her the 'future of literature,' and I don't think that's an exaggeration given that she's still in her mid-20s. I personally think of her as more of a writer's writer because she hones in on what each sentence and image can do and sharpens each one until they gleam, and writers tend to appreciate that more than readers don't write.
Patrick Radden Keefe: Patrick Radden Keefe is a investigative journalist for The New Yorker, and I am a big fan of everything he has written, between his books, articles, and the one podcast he did called Winds of Change back in 2020. This man literally has been followed around by PIs and has had his home broken into by the Russian Mob while digging into things. Keefe has a deep understanding of human nature and commitment to following through that I admire a lot. I was invited to be in Our Infinity (the satosugu wedding zine, here’s my plug for that since preorders are up and the merch is really cool lol). The fluffly fic I wrote for it involved Geto’s day job being basically Patrick Radden Keefe. It’ll be posted on AO3 once I’m allowed to, which is whenever after zine orders have been fulfilled (my guess is this fall). I would be lying if I said I haven’t thought about writing another entry of that AU where Geto is going around investigating Sketchy Things with help from his himbo assistant and math professor husband Gojo. Maybe someday!
