Uh, so a couple addenda. I have multiple files that include multiple fics in them, and most of those are prompt lists; I won’t be including the prompt lists, but I will be including the multi-fic files that are series. And, I normally don’t tag as many people as specified anyway, but 1) I won’t even be counting my WIPs because it’s a lot, and 2) I don’t even follow nearly as many people as I have WIPs because it is a lot. Something else about this scene I'd like to highlight in addition to what's already been said:

This scene is so impactful. It's so peaceful that it feels surreal. It's Akutagawa welcoming Atsushi in the eye of the hurricane, in the white feeling at the peak of his panic attack. And the thing is, Akutagawa is not addressing him with judgement or contempt; he's simply... Stating, standing firm, so distant yet so close, looking a little sad. It's so dramatically different compared to the previous, cruel offences of the orphanage director Atsushi used to see in his mind:

The differences in visual depictions is striking. While the orphanage director's demeanor is aggressive and violent, Akutagawa's words are simple, calm, pure. Like he's done before, Akutagawa is telling Atsushi to look beyond what lays behind him. He's not being flattering, either; but that's the point, that's Akutagawa's relationship with Atsushi, and that's why he's so good for Atsushi: he won't tell him that he's good or that he's bad, he'll only ever tell him that he is. And that's comforting enough by its own; being reminded that he's a person with inherent dignity and a right to exist, no matter the amount of good actions or bad actions he scores.

I feel like Akutagawa calling Atsushi out on his hypocrisy is the best thing to have happened to Atsushi. Because he needed it to grow, to become self-conscious. But also because once the act has been revealed, there's really no point to keep pretending. And when the mask has slipped off, for what is probably the first time in his life, it must have felt so freeing for Atsushi not have to pretend anymore, exhilarating, addicting. And that's where sskk's weird codependency spawns from: for Akutagawa, Atsushi is his trial, his chance to prove himself his whole life has led to, but also the only person who's ever made him feel like he's good enough, that he's good; for Atsushi, Akutagawa is the only person who can momentarily make him believe that he doesn't need any kind of external validation to live, the only person with whom Atsushi feels like he can simply exist. That's why they seek each other, because they need each other on a fundamental level.

Brain: The way Atsushi and Akutagawa go from being visually placed in such a blank and empty space with so much distance separating their bodies - and hearts -, to being framed together and close to the point that it’s impossible to distinguish where one ends and the other starts, perfectly tangling together in harmony and symbiosis, taking up all the space symbolizing how they’re now fulfilled and complete in their bond, perfectly meant to fit together, is the most beautiful instance of visual symbolism ever depicted there’s not even space for arguing

Chapters 51-53 are. so funny, but in a sweet way?? in regards of Atsushi's feelings for Akutagawa.

He hates him. He sincerely looks remorseful for hurting him. He hurts him again five minutes later. He saves Akutagawa's life by what cannot be mistaken by anything but an hug. He looks so upset when Akutagawa is breaking down and actively helps him (cheers him up, even?). He refuses to answer Akutagawa's questions. He perfectly works with Rashomon. His takeaway from all of that is that “me and Akutagawa could never work together”.

I know chances of it to happen are extremely low but I really want to see the scene of Fukuchi informing Teruko he's on the doa's side. I want to see Teruko's first, genuine reaction to the reveal so bad. I want to see Teruko acting serious and collected as every ideal and certainty she ever relied on crumble down in front of her eyes. Maybe a little tremble hitting her hands, a flash of fear crossing her eyes; or maybe her remaining unfaltering, firm as stone despite something just broke inside her. Just Teruko not knowing what to do now that the system she's always believed in is revealed to be rotten and corrupt
