Let's be honest, his personality has a lot of a feral cat as well. You find the similarities hilarious, while he still can't see it.

One time you walked in on him petting it - one of the rare occasions you ever saw him smile.

Loves when the cat sits on his lap while he's in his armchair by the fire, sipping on a glass of wine. An adorable image, and his favourite kind of self-care.

It will rub itself against his beard all the time. Who can blame it?

Needs at least one new outfit a week since the cat will always wreck the feather of his hat or scratch his leather clothes.

Talks to it with a way higher voice than usually, and yes, he does babytalk.

It will probably have a standard seat on his shoulder and loves hiding under his cape.

Always buys snacks when he's on land and even shares his meal with it.

Talks about the cat as if it's an actual person, and talks a lot. Literally his new bestie, you're almost jealous.

This animal has seen some shit. He'll definetly not go anywhere without it and do some weird party tricks when drunk.

Would protect it with his life, certainly.

Poor guy is actually a lil' bit allergic, but endures for your and it's sake.

It follows him around despite his best efforts not to. He gets used to it quickly however and starts talking to it. It helps him get his thoughts in order, actually.

Lets you keep it in the end because this man just can't say no to any of your wishes. Won't admit it though, probably says it's because they're useful to catch mice on the ship or something.

Throws a tantrum at least once a day, especially when the cat got anywhere near his maps.

Unsuccessfully tries to teach it any tricks for them to participate in the circus.

Is often caught juggling for it and acts like the cat just happened to be there while he was practicing.

It's an open secret that he adores this animal. It's also the only one allowed to sit on his throne besides him.

- He's all for the goofy behavior.

- Seriously, if you can make him smile he's 100% already vibing with you and you make him smile constantly.

- He's always ready to play with you or just listen to you tell jokes.

- People already compare him to the sun, and he never really understood that until he met you.

- He also 100% has a prank war going with you. It's endearing at first but now it's an actual war and the other Strawhats have been picking sides.

- So far you're winning, much to his annoyance. But, he can't pout for too long when he hears your laugh and looks over to be met with such a warm expression on your face.

- If you want an easy way to get to him when he is in a mood, physical comedy gets him a lot. He's a sucker for slapstick. Slip on a banana peel for the man.

- He'll always make sure you aren't hurt afterwards, so no worries! He just... has to stop laughing first.

- You can pout at him all you want after, but it won't do much.

- "C'mon, (Y/N)! You just- and- and the noise you made--" and he's hunched right back over losing his mind.

- Come on, how could you stay mad at him? Well, you can't! Because he finds it so funny, he tries to replicate it so you can see what he saw.

- Ends with you both lying on the deck, cheeks red and heads fuzzy from the lack of air, but genuinely enjoying each others company so much.

- Luffy wouldn't trade the feeling for the world.

USOPP

- Let's be real, he appreciates comedy. And, while he loves childish jokes and acts he also enjoys most other forms (except Robin's).

- But he loves yours!

- He makes a lot of self deprecating jokes at himself, it's his fall back and, while he doesn't do it enough to be concerning, he also doesn't hold back.

- But, none of those jokes last long when you're around!

- Cheesy pickup lines always get him to laugh. Sometimes you might get a blush or a bashful turn-away, but he's always laughing and fighting back chuckles.

- He loves hearing you add onto his tall tales. Commit to this man's bits!! He will love you!

- Get's even more entertaining if you act it out with impressions, play it up with him! Be nerds! Drama kids!

- You can't play any acting game together because you just wind up laughing too much to participate.

- One of his secret favorite things you do to make him laugh is when you sit in his little corner with him and purposely put something together wrong.

- "Y/N, pfft, I- I asked you to make a cube! How- how'd you make a triangle? Where- where's the other piece?"

- This situation is a win all around because it makes him laugh, he gets an ego boost in helping you, and if you really don't know how to build stuff or don't want to then he'll never know!

BUGGY

- As a clown himself, Buggy has been known to appreciate the finer forms of comedy.

- So, needless to say if you throw a pie at someone you're already a star in his book.

- Okay, he might be a little more mature than that and the pie might have to be well timed, but a well time pie throw is still a win! Really, if your timing is pretty good you'll land most jokes with him.

- Not to say everything needs to be timed. Sometimes silly things just happen with him.

- He's a walking shenanigans magnet and if you can double down on that and make it a positive thing for him he'll adore you.

- Plus, you so graciously taking the butt of the captain's jokes and pranks has the rest of his crew and Alvida praising you (mostly due to their mild annoyances to them).

- Buggy does pull pranks by the way. Constantly. But, he always, without fail, get's flustered when you catch him trying to set one up or mid-lie.

- Full body, red faced, you swear you can hear steam coming out of his ears. But, he always ends up laughing with you afterwards. It's funny once he looks back on the scene after a few minutes of denial and he can admit that much at least.

- And, you never laugh at him. Well, not in a bad way. He gets defensive, he's got a sensitive ego and he's greedy; but you only see him as... well, your fun partner in crime!

- That's right. If you've got the confidence to go head-to-head with him then you're officially his partner in crime! You don't really get a choice in this, he'll drag you along with his plans.

- Of course, he takes all the credit for any joke he might pull on the crews. He doesn't want you to get in trouble. Plus, he gets mild entertainment watching them treat you like your innocent.

- It's like having a spy on the inside as you come back to him with everyone's plans and schedules, and you two have a late night planning session.

- "So, if Alvida and Mohji are on the island that leaves--" he turns to face you for some help only to see you mid air plane throw at his head.

- You maintain eye contact for a moment before he grins and suddenly a hand is on your side, tickling you into surrender. "Hah! Try and best me again I dare you!"

[One piece punk band AU/modern AU] Part 1, Part 2

Characters: Ace, Bartolomeo, Franky, Buggy, Law

Barto's the guitarist, Ace is the bassist, Franky plays the drums and Buggy shrieks sings

They stick together because of their contract but they fight a lot, threatening to leave the band every other day.

You're the band's personal assistant and every time your phone rings you regret all your life choices.

Ace looks calm and composed but he's the wildest one when it comes to partying and getting wasted. His pockets are always full of not-so-legal stuff.

He was dumped ages ago but never got over it. The fans fall for his sad boi soft smile.

Bartolomeo is the most skilled musician out of them all, he studied music and is a huge music nerd who's gonna charm/bore people with endless lists of niche groups and genres.

When he talks about his nana and his tattoos, everyone goes feral over how cute he is.

Buggy is all over the gossip pages either for being a prima donna or destroying something (it was Ace). He loves the attention and free clothing.

Some days he's cold when meeting fans: he knows he's not pretty nor talented, why would these people care? They just like his fame.

He texts you at 4am, asking to add random things to the band's expenses reports. He's actually trying to confess he likes you but chickens out every time.

Franky doesn't care about fame and drama he's just in for the chaos. Videos of him shouting "super" are a viral meme on tiktok.

He met Nico Robin on tour and married her on a whim. The two of them ranked #3 on a famous "weird-but-cute" celeb couples poll.

One of the things i love about my mom being a total nerd is that I can talk to her about things i like and she actually understands them! I was gushing about some cute Shanks x Buggy art i saw on tiktok and she was like ‘yeah they’re cute. hey sorry if this is weird but this is @chip-and-the-bastards (it's a sideblog so I can't ask with it) and since we're up against each other for the jrwi au showdown I wanted to ask about Blood in the Deadwood‼️ it seems like a cool au but tumblr search function isn't showing me if you have anything for it on this blog! So here take this as an opportunity to ramble about it and also maybe give some propaganda!

Oh HELLL YEAHHHHHH!!!!!

well first of all @tobeywobey was also very involved in making it so make sure you also give them creds ! ! He worked on a LOT of the lore so i really wanna give them proper creds lol. Also the search didnt work because both toby and I haven't post much of anything publicly about it LMAO

BASICALLY its the prime defenders characters but in a kind of Galloway/Deadwood hybrid place if that makes sense. Each character fills the role of another character(s) in blood in the bayou (for example cantrip basically plays the role of Becky in this au.) its pretty cannon compliant to the events of blood in the bayou, except for a few changes, like things happening for different reasons and events being changed. Also there is no superpowers in this au :)

the thing Toby and I changed most was probably the events leading up to the main three going back to deadwood. In this AU Dakota is the one that knows Ashe the best, Will and Vynce are less acquainted with her. This is because she fills the role of Rachel so we wanted it to closer match the relationship that Kian and Rolan had with her when they were younger. so basically Dakota introduces Ashe to the other two a couple years before the events of this AU take place in deadwood, and they all eventually leave for w own reasons. Will dies like in PD canon, is resurrected as a bug sorta like how Rolan is, except he knows that he's a bug and keeps it secret. Ashe goes missing suddenly and Mark immediately starts investigating. The boys talk to mark about any leads or information, and it all leads to Deadwood. Also somewhere along there Williams "parents" die. Some more noatable things that happen in these few years is that vynce and cantrip have a relationship thats more like a situationship, and the three of them start a dnd campaign but never finish it.

They all go to Deadwood Because of Ashe's disappearance but vynce and will also have other reasons. Vynce really wants to finish this fuckin dnd campaign, and will felt the most obligated to go because he's part of the hive (and also his parents funeral was happening there anyways.) Will is also the one that is the most hesitant to go in the first place.

Then the BITB cannon stuff happens! They greet Doug (who plays the role of rat in this AU,) go to quickstop, see The Horrors, all that stuff. They obviously react in different ways and do different things than the BITB pcs, but it all still leads to them going to points of interest and having the big events happen to them the same. One notable change is that Will sees doug in the alley, pasteified, but is really curious about what actually happened to him instead of being horrified of the human sludge (Will is so fucking insane in this au.) Another is that will convinces Dakota that they need to leave (like how kian does) but while they are driving away will and dakota get into an argument wich leads to dakota grabbing the wheel from him and they end up swerving into the membrane wall.

Unfortunately thats where we stopped writing stuff down lmao so for the propaganda section of this ramble i will be taking from the character info toby wrote

Tide fills the role of Mr. Dickman and he has a secret bunker chalk full of beef stroganoff. He also has a huge fucking blackboard where he writes all his theories (he just has "MALARIA" written down in all caps)

Full disclosure, this is a long one. It's also a vent post. I'm mainly writing this out to help get the thoughts and feelings regarding this kind of organized and out of my head, makes dealing with them just a little easier. Maybe it'll help you put to words your own thoughts & feelings on this kinda shit, too, and if it does, I'm glad my screaming into the void at least helped out someone other than myself! After all, if anything I say, write, or do ends up helping at least one other person, then maybe I'm doing something right :]

Sometimes having long-time special interests in an ongoing franchise FUCKING SUCKS. Perfect example - I am both a big Halo nerd, and really enjoy the overaching lore of Bungie's connected worlds (with how Marathon, Pathways into Darkness, Myth, Destiny, and even the ways Halo originally connected before it had to become its own thing thanks to Microsoft). Here are the ways that currently sucks:

The state of Halo Infinite, the most recent Halo game, both currently and at launch. At launch, you had a buggy mess, with multiplayer that barely functioned, lacking feature parity (even just on the multiplayer side of things, not counting the campaign) with Halo Reach, a game from 2010. Currently, 343i has admittedly fixed a lot of the launch issues - there's more customization than the game has ever had before (still not as good as Reach's customization imo, but at this point I've given up hope on any multiplayer AAA game having that level of customization for free ever again), the desync issues (in my experience) are no longer happening, and it has the most powerful Forge mode in any Halo game to date. The flip side of that, though? Egregiously horrendous monetization, an armor core and coating system that both hurt the customization more than help, and a drip-feed of content with little to no communication from 343 on anything past the most recent update. Not to mention the issues that come from a focus on "Live Service" bullshit.

The issues at 343 Industries itself, which come part and parcel with the massive issues related to Microsoft as a company. Massive megacorporation, horrible management, staff getting screwed over, crunch culture, and more - it just goes on and on.

Halo 5, despite its generally negative reception, is horrendously inaccessible to those of us that want to experience it as a piece of history and/or try out the multiplayer. A perfect example of how little companies care about game preservation, despite the decent track record 343i has had in that respect thanks to the Master Chief Collection, its PC release and addition of Halo Reach, and the efforts to find, occasionally recreate from almost nothing, and implement lost & cut content in the MCC titles.

Being a fan of Bungie's overarching stuff... really bad when you are at PEAK investment into their stuff, namely my Destiny 2 hyperfixation, and they not only announce that their new Marathon game is going to be a fucking EXTRACTION SHOOTER, and thus unlikely to have one of the most interesting things about Marathon in it (that being its lore) while also being very hard to get into thanks to people treating that kind of game as a massive sweat-fest, but also suddenly lay off a bunch of employees (when previously they had a good track record of treating employees decently...) due to Square Enix levels of profit overestimations of Lightfall, the BEST SELLING DESTINY EXPANSION EVER only getting 45% of the expected sales. Because why be realistic, right? Just fuck over employees, that certainly won't hurt us in the end!

The fact that, despite ALL OF THIS and my moral convictions against the shitty nature of this stuff, my dumbass brain still wants me to just spend spend spend on it anyway because of how much of a special interest Halo & the Bungie lore are to me - it almost hurts. I generally prefer fantasy stuff, but I can't stop myself from loving the lore and stories associated with this stuff. I have to fight myself every goddamn time I have money to not fall into the traps. It's easier with Destiny - I uninstalled it, replaced my PvE needs with Warframe and Risk of Rain 2, replaced my PvP needs with Halo Infinite, and just keep up with the story from a distance. But now that Halo Infinite is back in my life? I love the gameplay, hell I'd go as far as to say it has some of the strongest gameplay in the series (though some modes could use a bit more work, for example the Infection mode just isn't as fun as the Infection from Halo Reach), but the monetization just... AAAARGH it hurts me that I want to spend on it, both for customization and to have little goals to work towards in the (thankfully well-implemented due to them being available eternally) battle passes.

I just want to be able to love something that's been so central to me for so long - I played a cracked version of the CE PC demo for countless hours growing up, to the point that to this day I know the mission Silent Cartographer back to front from memory & could do it in my sleep, and associate Blood Gulch with countless memories of Halo's multiplayer from how often I'd play it with my sister, and to add onto all of that Halo Reach is one of my favorite games ever made, period - without caveats and moral hangups. I just want to love something without justifying it every time I think of it, both to myself and others.

I know this is a massively first-world issue, having the luxury to whine about my Favorite Things going through years and years of getting fucked by their own successes driving them into corporatism, but it still sucks. Obviously not as much as other issues both myself and others deal with, and DEFINITELY not as much as the horrible shit people are enduring in several parts of the world, but just enough for me to want/need to vent about how much corporations like to shit on the little rays of sunshine that we use to feel better about life.

Sora x Riku - Kingdom Hearts: The ship of my childhood. Pretty sure the only fandom ship I have ever written fanfic for (when I was in high school....it has almost certainly been lost to time now). I fell off of KH for nearly 10 years but picked up Dream Drop Distance a couple years ago and MY GOD the gay pining. These bitches gay, good for them.

Luck x Ludovica - Tiger, Tiger: I love them, your honor....Complete nerd who's so far in the closest even she doesn't realize she's gay meets flirty eldritch god beast with a massive ego. It's a perfect combo.

Buggy x Crocodile x Mihawk - One Piece: Listen. I'm not even at Cross Guild stuff yet but the fanart. It's so spicy. It's like 75% of the reason I even started watched OP in the first place. I can pinpoint the exact piece of fanart that made me go :eyes: maybe I should watch this show... And here I am, over 300 episodes later and still going. I'm fully aware that I'm not getting to Cross Guild any time soon but I'm hooked without it anyways rip in pieces to me.

Thoughts on eps 1-4 of Murder Drones:

Pilot 1. Is the planet the bots are on supposed to be an alternate Earth? Or a different planet all together? (Answer: It's not Earth. Uzi mentions wanting to go to earth so she can "kill all humans". The planet they are on is Copper 9.) 2. "Untrained neural network" aka baby robots lmao. 3. While the meta dialogue was incredibly BAD in the first episode, the facial gags with words flashing across their faces is so funny. I am having to pause every two seconds to read everything. 4. Which is by design? Pausing to read the gags. This is a show that really wants it's audience to study it like the nerds we are. 5. I love that all the character relationships are purposely cliche, and played 100% straight. 6. Are we really supposed to believe Uzi's dad mercy-killed her mother? 7. I do love how they establish that the Disassembly Drones can regenerate. (N being blasted into oblivion.) 8. "OH MY, you sure are rebellious! It's kind of exciting! *fans self*" N LMAO WHAT. 9. N and Uzi are A+ mains and I love them. 10. Yeah, I missed so much lore discussion on the first watch. Particularly the bit about the ships only being capable of going one way. 11. Why is N hoisting Uzi onto his shoulders the cutest thing ever. He carry. He protec. 12. "I'd join you if the sun didn't kill me!" Hooow did I miss that.

Episode 2 / Heartbeat 1. God I love the haunted mansion flashback. It's so jarring. 2. Tessa... 3. The Disassembly Drones sleep upside down wrapped in their wings. 4. The show hinting at V knowing more than she's letting on combined with the flashbacks were when I started to realize how much of a gem this show was. 5. Episode starts establishing Lizzy and Doll a little more. (Did V disguise herself AS Lizzy? lol.) 6. Ah okay, they do explain what Uzi's powers are: AbsoluteSolver auto-repair initiative. 7. And Uzi DOES mention it's just like the Disassembly Drones' regenerative powers. 8. The weird human hand thing was great. 9. "Oh, J's not here." Huh. 10. "It hurts our feelings you don't remember us." It said via Uzi's Mum's face. Hmmmm. 11. I seriously went from "this could work as a series - good setup" to "I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM UR ALL VERY PRECIOUS".

Episode 3 / The Promening 1. Okay, this was when I realized how purposely satirical the series is. PROM LOL. 2. Year 3,071! 3. I really want to understand the bug crushing motif. 4. "Thank you FOR BEING MY friend" STOP!!! 5. The skeleton prom outfit bit is so gd funny. 6. "What's best for you. Even if you hate me for it." V plz. 7. UZI UWUs 8. This whole episode is just good character development stuff. More focus on V, Doll and Lizzy. Uzi and N making up and doing a battle couple bit for a few seconds. A bit more background information on Uzi’s Mom too.

Episode 4 / Cabin Fever 1. The...school bus is being driven like a horse and buggy. I'm. 2. Uzi's bat-winged backpack :). 3. Lizzy and V just being friends now is delightful. 4. Neat to see a different type of environment being focused on in this episode. 5. "EVACUATE ALL DOGS" "Cool. We did that. That's canon." "Also, all dogs are immortal now!" LMAO I REALLY NEEDED TO PAUSE FOR THAT JOKE. 6. I don't really understand what's triggering Uzi's transformation though? Stress? Jealousy? 7. "Welcome back 02" Hmmmm. 8. V keeps comedically killing all these students and they are still 100% in love with her and N now ahaha. 9. N's development is so good man. I like that he’s standing up to V now. 10. The funniest part of this episode was that Liam thought it was necessary to grind twitter animation stans into dust and have N conspicuously proclaim that he and Uzi are the same age. I don’t have to be part of the fandom to know what that means. Genuinely cathartic seeing a show tell shipper drama weirdos to shut the fuck up. 11. OH! There's that mansion from episode 2. So this hints at what happened to everyone's memories and why they were wiped. 12. The information on zombie drones is on a VHS with 80s horror movie font. 13. Marshmallow batteries 14. "Okay, Mom." L M A O 15. "New body, same horrors. Huh Cyn?" ??? 16. "Can I talk to N?" Oof that hurt me actually :(. 17. HAND HOLDING *pointing Rick Dalton meme*

Even on a re-watch I feel like there's a lot going on under the surface of the series that I've missed. Very much looking forward to seeing where this show goes.

Sidney Pointdexter Redesign Discussion🪞

In terms of human design I didn't change too much but added a pretty HUGE change. A giant mantis sized one.

I Wanted his outfit to have the same feel but also feel more, personal. It's clear they were going for the 50's nerd look, it fits and makes sense dont get me wrong. I wanted to show his more shy, akward side. Probably didn't want to stand out, avoid attention. I also wanted to push both the mirror/reflection and bug theme more. The bug theme's more subtle though.

For the mirror theme, I added reflective surfaces such as his glasses and watch. I also added crack designs on his pants to look like mirror cracks as well as show his internal fragility, feeling weak and left with many marks from his past🪞

For the bug theme, I wanted it to be more subtle, I want the audience to be both shocked but also feel like it was foreshadowing. I kept his thin figure, wanted to make him feel longer, I also made his glasses show just his pupils with light to feel big like bug eyes. I totally see Bullies to have made fun of him for his "stick bug body" and "big buggy eyes". I also have a hair on him sticking up which moves like an antenna. Perhaps depending on state becomes more bug like🪲

Gave him sharper, more angular features to show he has hidden sharpness to him📐

Made his glasses squarer, shift based on expression in place of eyebrows👓

Kept his color scheme but added a light blue color in his palette to have him stand out plus blue can mean things such as calm and relaxing but also passive, fragility and sadness. Things that fit my Sid very well.

Added a sleeveless sweater vest over his white collar shirt. I see him be very sensitive to cold so I can see him in setters, cardigans etc.

Removed the bowtie. I feel like Sid wouldn't feel confident wearing that u leas for formal occasions, worried he'd be made fun for that.

Gave him black sneaker shoes. Good for running from bullies, as well as being outdoors to look at bugs.

Gave him a watch. To add the reflection aesthatic on him plus I feel like he's the type who likes to be on time like Jazz.

Gave him braces.

Added more head on the top of his head and made it more square shaped.

Changed his nose. Nostrils aren't visible.

For his Praying Mantis form, I was inspired by 50's sci-fi horror stuff, many being about creepy crawlies such as bugs. One great example is 1957's "The Deadly Mantis. Also, praying mantis are known for the art of surprise and overall look very scary and intimidating. Sid at first glance seems friendly and genuinely is, also has a hidden darker side to him and wished he could've been like a praying mantis and all of his tormentors his prey. In a way his normal form and friendly demeanor are both his nature and camouflage.

Gave him many sharp features. Good for intimidation and attacking.

Made his pincers, legs, eyes, teeth and overall complexion very shiny and reflective for the mirror theme.

Gave him very sharp teeth.

Made his hair pointer like antennae.

Kept the top clothes but with ripped sleeves.

Made his pupils slit.

Peter in panties you sayyyyy

Wade DOES want to be jet packed, he 100% loves it lol. It's more about how if Peter is holding him, all of his damage etc is right there and visible vs if he's holding Peter, he can... hide? That's why its so consistently great that Peter doesn't LET him hide. I love that.

The idea of Peter making charts and Wade just like "or I could throw stuff at you to test your reflexes" I felt like was very in character for both of them lol. I always thought it was a little bit off in the spiderman movies that we never really see Peter approaching his abilities scientifically? Like we sort of do with AG and TH with their web fluid but other than that, not really. You're telling me a science nerd kid wouldn't do the Scientific Method trying to find answers? Even after the initial montage of just flying between buildings and shooting webs everywhere? Come on.

I LOVED the sensory deprivation/trials scene. I definitely upped Peter's spideryness in the fic as well as upping just sort of generic super powers like the crazy hearing and lightning fast reflexes and of course, actual webs vs needing web shooters. But I love that scene with Wade talking to him and Peter not knowing what was said but knowing realistically he should be scared about it but instead he's just turned on? HOLLA.

Is fuzzyyaya the one where Peter's wrist gets milked? Cos.... that may or may not be in the fic already lmaooo

I thought the Chomper reference would either hit EXCELLENT or be one of those things that wildly ages me as a writer. I texted Alyssa @xkissmeimirishx a picture of Chomper and was like "who is this" because I knew if she knew right away, the joke would land but if she was like ??? then I'd leave it out. Obviously she knew exactly who it was and so many people in the comments did too which makes me VERY happy!

oh i guess i can also throw out a bitchy video game review: sam barlow’s Immortality

to get the good stuff out of the way: this was obviously made with extremely high production values & attention to quality.  i am not a Film Person TM, at all, but i can sense there's a lot of pastiche and loving homages to various works of cinema woven through the three fake films in this game, and i trust they are executing extremely well on that sort of thing.  the acting is all solid-to-excellent.  and the ideas that are being played with—The Archivist's Gaze TM, the unreliability of memory *even when the record seems clear*, the strange experience of exploring stuff in the nonlinear grabby-hands way that fans of a thing often do—that was all cool.  there were a few moments where what i was witnessing was so uncomfortable i was wincing, and it was a huge relief to hear "cut!" shouted at the end of scene—which, of course, led to the constant back-and-forth wondering of "is this real or is this fake," which carried ever-greater weight as the game went on

but, and unfortunately this is a HUGE "but", while the method of presentation is novel, its version of totally-radical-nonlinearity means it's possible to have game experiences that just don't "click," and don't add up to much.  in particular, i managed to get to "the ending" without getting... any of the *other* hidden scenes that give context/grounding/etc for that ending?  which, sure, *might* be the point; if you hit an unlucky path maybe you're just supposed to go back and replay stuff until that ending makes sense.  (i would argue that's an awful lot of patience to demand from someone who's already sat through ~4-6hours of often-somewhat-tedious footage, but eh, i did also play the entire Chronopolis sequence in Chrono Cross so whatever, i sucked it up.)  but due to how the interface works, if you did miss something, there's no way to tell what you missed, what you might even be looking for, where the "blank spaces" are, etc, so you just.... are reduced to random clicking, for several hours, trying to unlock the new thingy.

it doesn't help that the quality of the writing, imo, drops off sharply once we're dealing with said secret scenes.  prior to that, the film clips are all full of rich/interesting context and nuance that's genuinely a pleasure to decipher, and... then it just turns into long monologues about immortal beings, which is normally My Shit TM, but it's precisely the kind of My Shit TM that is godawful in this format.  lil bit too on-the-nose and schlocky compared to what came before.

the game's also strangely buggy, which meant it took ages to figure out how to even *unlock* hidden scenes in the first place, and even then it was kind of a struggle.  (and then when i googled wtf i was missing, it was like "why aren't you playing with a controller, that's the right way to do it" well bitch keyboard is a supported interface so i thought it'd be ok???)

i'd be less annoyed if this thing hadn't gotten unanimous uncaveated adulation from The Sorts Of Interactive Ficiton People i tend to follow, and whose judgment i usually vibe a lot with, which gives me a kind of emperor-has-no-clothes feel.  like is everyone just afraid of saying anything mean about Sam Barlow or something.  every single one of you can't be film nerds right.  like it's COOL and i definitely see how it could be someone's kind of thing, but the execution is definitely wobbly!
