band au rahhhhhhhhhhh
#i wanted to draw the other guardians too but this would be a good start#ok so#tsuna starts his band. yamamoto bass and gokudera keys and tsuna suprisingly drummer and also lead vocal. reborn appears out of nowhere-#being “youre not your full potential so i will drain you till youre like a fish in a dehydrator until you become the best out there.”#thats about it#but i just like how drumming singers are like extremely good music people because drumming is already hard. and singing too???#absolutely insane i might say. tsuna would do this (bc reborn told him so)#he does not want to be the best but reborn exists in the paro for a reason#reborn is like maybe a famous musician who faked his death then did whatever he wanted to do while he was “alive”. then he got tsuna as his#apprentice and so so. oh yeah also whiplash (the movie) reference bc holy shit its so good. for me at least. and reborn would make tsuna go#that kind of crazy. like training until drenched in sweat from morning to night or whenever hes available. bc he knows he has potential#he just need someone to push him beyond his expected limit#btw 8059 implied#gokudera joined the band first bc yeah then comes yamamoto for fun as he had to rest from playing baseball a bit too enthusiastic#gokudera hated him so much for like being dumb??? (the goofy ah laugh) but then the two dated even before reborn made a move on tsuna#its very funny but they work it out#i was also thinking if the band ever do solos or do something not as the whole band 8059 will have their own album. itll be great#for genre im not sure?? lets just say alt rock electrojazz????#no idea but maybe ill make a playlist. maybe#sawada tsunayoshi#reborn#yamamoto takeshi#gokudera hayato#8059#r27

Have a lil’ redesign of the whole gang! Everyone keeps their original names (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy) because they’re the originals! Headcanons and personalities under the cut!
Freddy: - I imagine Freddy as the leader of the group, taking initiative and being one of the first to start investigating the disappearances at their restaurant. He also handles the paperwork when the manager isn’t around.
- He’s an avid coffee-drinker and prefers his coffee black.
- His favorite type of music ranges from blues to country. He’ll delve into some rock when jamming out with Bonnie,
- Despite how logical he can act, he cares deeply about the others, and is a good shoulder to cry on if they need it.
- Don’t squeak his nose.
Bonnie:
- Bonnie is probably the most chill and laid back of the four, he tends to slack off on the job sometimes.
- He loves listening to music over the speaker system when they’re off duty, shredding along on his guitar. Careful, he might rope you into jamming with him if he catches you doing nothing.
- He’s always there to lighten the mood, being a lovable goofball with a goal of making his friends laugh.
- Despite him being a jokester he’s extremely perceptive, always noticing the small things about people, from their small quirks to changes in body language, he’s basically a living lie detector.
Chica:
- Chica is a stubborn one, she’s not afraid to tell things like they are, believing that honesty is the best policy.
- Her favorite hobby is cooking, she mainly makes pizzas for herself and the others but she’ll occasionally get her hands on some extra ingredients to make other things!
- She sometimes will star in some of the shows as the lead singer and can definitely carry a tune. When she’s not singing backup she’s keeping rhythm with a tambourine! They’ve tried a drum set, but once she gets on em’- it’s impossible to get her off!
- She can be forgetful sometimes, where the heck did she put the keys to the kitchen again?
Foxy:
- Foxy is a shy one, preferring to relax in his cove than come out during the night. Even the thought of being watched makes him freeze like a deer in headlights!
- The others tend to visit him often, whether it be to just hang out or try to coax him out of hiding to come jam with them. He doesn’t have the greatest of voices but he sure does have a crazy good sense of rhythm and rhyming, most of the songs the other’s sing are written or co-written by him!
- He has trouble seeing out of his left eye, the damaged lenses making it very light sensitive, especially to flickering lights.
- Despite his social anxiety and shyness, the other’s care about him all the same.
- When he’s out, he loves telling stories, whether they be made up, or embarrassing things he’s seen the other’s do during shows.
- Freddy tends to help him when he feels especially anxious and that being the main reason why he sees Freddy as the captain, going as far as to call him that like a term of endearment.
General headcanons:
- They all care about the children coming there dearly, finding all their personalities and stories from the outside world interesting. As much as they wish they could share some of their own, they’re required to act as lifeless as possible once free-roaming.
- To prevent said free-roaming during the day, they’re feet are magnetized to the floor, once it’s after hours and everyone goes home, they are disabled so they can move around!
- After being possessed, they don’t remember what happens after each night, why do guards keep going missing? What’s that smell coming from the back room? Chica being the first, notices something’s off first.

“I don’t care what you say anymore, this is my life. Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone!” You sang, finishing off the last song of your set that night. You were playing at a loose bar in the scetchy-ier- part of Hawkins. The few people in the bar clap and you feel a sense of accomplishment rush over you.
The “band”— if you could call it that— consisted of you being the lead singer and pianist, one your best friends, Jessamine playing guitar, and your other best friend, Royal, playing the drums.
It didn’t take a lot for you to be ready to perform. Although you did dress completely differently at school, all you did was change in the back of Royal’s van.
Following paragraph says reader wears a skirt
The first thing you changed into was a black, leather, skirt, which was short, but not short enough to show anything when you sat or bent over.
Following paragraph says reader wears pants
The first thing you changed into were black, leather, pants, which were tight, but not so tight that you couldn’t move.
The next thing you changed into was a black T-shirt which was tucked into your bottoms, and then a frayed, denim,  sleeveless, vest over it.
Your hair was teased ever so slightly giving you an edgier look, anyone who looked at you would assume the music you played was metal, hard rock at least. It was always a shock to people when they found out you covered Billy Joel songs (among others).
A great thing about performing at the bar was what you got to do after you were done.
No one really knew, but after you were done performing, you sent Jessamine and Royal on their way, telling them the same thing you always did “I have a ride. Don’t worry!” They stopped arguing after the fifth time you did this. They assumed you were just going to get drunk and— maybe— have sex with someone.
They didn’t want to pry though, having a feeling that if you wanted them to know, you’d tell them. And that was partially true, except you did want them to know, it was the other person that didn’t.
The night went the same, you finished your set, you grabbed a drink, and sat down, waiting for the next band to start.
Hellfire. That was the band who always played afterwards. They were metal. You loved the music, and often found yourself in sort of a trance because of it— well— you were certainly in a trance, but it was more because of the lead bassist/singer. Eddie Munson.
Eddie Munson was about as perfect as they came in your opinion. He was gentle with you, caring, loving. But of course, when it came to other people he was typically ruthless, he gave it how it was, no matter how bitter it may have been, he never gave sugar.
And it helped that he was extremely fit and even more good looking. You also couldn’t really get over his hair. Sometimes when you were hooking up, he’d put it in a ponytail and fuck you found it so hot when he did.
You’d watch the band carefully, Eddie meeting your own gaze frequently but not frequently enough in your opinion. When the set was over they’d pack up and go into the drummer’s van, Eddie would drive his own, and after you heard one van drive off you’d join your boyfriend.
“Hello dove.” He’d say, like clockwork. You’d smile, reach over and caress his cheek before leaning in and kissing him passionately.
“Hey handsome.” You’d reply back. Everytime you met up you’d go pick up a pizza and some drinks, then go to his house where he’d park and you’d climb into the back of the van. He’d join you, you’d eat, you’d talk about your weeks, he would tell you he loved you and you would reciprocate it.
Then, after you were done eating, he would kiss you. This time, he would be hovering over you, his hands placed between your thighs, rubbing the side of them.
His tongue would invade your mouth, and then his hands would start to get closer and closer to your core where he would palm you through the cloth covering you.
It felt good, it did, but you wanted more. You didn’t want to be his backseat hookup that he would say he loved but you’d always question whether or not he actually meant it.
After a few minutes he’d move his hand and pull out of the kiss, he’d help you take off your vest. Usually you let him. Not this time.
“Wait.” You gulped. Eddie looked at you with surprise.
“What is it, dove?”
“I.. I don’t want to have sex tonight.” You murmured. Eddie’s mouth fell agape, but he quickly caught himself and nodded.
“Okay, uh, do you wanna go home then?” You sighed.
“If you want me to.” His eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head.
“Why would I want you to go, love?” You shrug.
“It’s always the same routine… secret meetup.. pizza.. talk.. makeout.. sex.. home. I don’t wanna do that today. I wanna talk more. I want..” you hesitated for a second, “I want you to hold me.” You couldn’t look at him, afraid he’d be laughing at you. You hoped that he wouldn’t be scared off by this. You hoped he would want this too.
“Okay, we can do that. Come ‘ere.” You saw his arms reach out, and you looked up at his face. It was genuine. He smiled at you. “You comin’, dove?” You smiled at him and crawled towards him, he engulfed you in a hug. It was nice to smell him without the underlying sex smell. “Are you okay?” He ponders quietly. Were you okay?
“I don’t know.” You replied timidly. It was the truth. Three words and you couldn’t quite piece together an answer.
“What’s going through that pretty little head of yours, dove?” He kissed the top of your head and you felt your cheeks getting hot.
“You.” He hums.
“Oh yeah?” You nod against his chest. “What about me?”
“It’s more of us.. I guess.”
“What do you mean baby?”
“I don’t know.. I just.. I so badly want to tell Jessamine and Royal. I want even more to sit with you at lunch and kiss you at school. I want to be able to sit in the front row at your shows, and I want to walk to the van with you. I want to go on dates with you in public, no offense to your van, but preferably somewhere that didn’t stink of marijuna.” You said it all slowly, hoping he would understand, and if not, that he would just let you down gently.
“Then tell them. Do all that. Ask me on some dates.” He responded, not letting a beat pass. You sat up.
“But I thought you-“
“I didn’t know how it was affecting you before, dove. I want you to be happy— I want to make you happy.” You made eye contact, searching him for traces of lies.
“Really?” Eddie smiles and takes your hand, he opens the van door and climbs outside, beckoning you to join. “What are we doing—?”
“I’M EDDIE MUNSON AND I’M IN LOVE WITH Y/N L/N!” He yelled. Your eyes widened and you went to cover his mouth.
“Ed!” You quietly chastised. You felt him lick your hand causing your face to distort into disgust as you wiped your hand on his shirt. He laughs. “You’re disgusting.”
“Dance with me.” You look at him as if he’s insane.
“What?” Eddie grabs your hands and drags you further away from the van.
“You heard me, dance with me.”
“There’s no music.”
“Okay. Dance with me anyways.”
“You’re insane, Eddie Munson.”
“Yeah I am—“ he broke out into a smile like he was proud of himself, “about you.” You shake your head disapprovingly, but your smile betrays you. You take his hands and you start to slow dance under the stars. Not caring that it was Thursday and you had school tomorrow. Not caring people might see. It was just him and you. That’s all that mattered.

About Show's voice
Honestly it's a good thing I go to Jrock one only for news, otherwise I'd be arguing every damn day. I go back to comments on A9's and Kiryu's hiatus in case sb heard sth more, cause some of those fans do live in Japan, but when I see stupidity I can't deal.
I saw people claiming that Show isn't a good vocalist, that that takes from their songs lately and that there was more passion in older songs etc etc. Let's talk music shall we? When you don't like a singer doesn't make them bad. It makes them not YOUR taste.
When A9 started their career Show's singing style wasn't "correct". There was more to his voice that couldn't be heard, cause of the way he was breathing while singing (many jrockers sing "with the nose" as you might have noticed or run out of breath easily and it takes practice to learn to sing while holding breath in the stomach and not the chest). However, at that time was also when Show's voice depth was showing better. Songs like Velvet are proof of that. All that changed later on, though. By the time songs like Gemini, Hana etc came to life, you could hear his voice was coming out smoother, it had highs and lows, nice turns etc.. PSC gave them a chance to a vocal instructor which believe it or not, not many companies in the vkei scene were willing to pay for. As long as the dudes were hot and were bringing people in, the companies didn't bother. Hell most bands never had a manager, it was usually the leader that took up all that work, while also perhaps composing or writing lyrics and designing, learning only through experience and asking around.
In recent years Show's voice seems to have changed again but in a different way (the flatness that comment I speak of, mentioned). After they left PSC, things remained the same for a few years but then it came. I notice the same change in Ryoga's voice (Razor, ex. BORN). Ryoga is one of the few vocalists that brings up what is going on in the scene regarding vocals and has been open about his troubles with his voice the last few years. Screaming fucks a voice up unless done right. Ruki's (the Gazette) screams seem to be less painful because he changed his technique. Still harmful but not as much as Ryoga's. Ryoga is one of those who goes to extremes though and has said that he will keep screaming until his voice dies. He needs a better instructor though and lots of resting cause he also deals with the second big voice killer in their scene and which applies to Show more too, since he doesn't scream much, the repeated lives. Vkei artists play way too many shows around the year, and not with breaks in between. They could be performing one afternoon, then run straight to a hotel, get their things, move to the next one and have only a few hours of sleep until the next show (I know every band in the world does that but to the extent they do it, there, is a bit too much. Also that + lacking guidance on how to deal with your voice shows us why so many vkei vocalists had to deal with vocal issues and losing their voice completely). Show has been doing that way too much, since he also belongs to a band that had many gigs and even though 2020 forced everyone sit their ass down and take a break, it already had done its damage.
It's not just a matter of passion to keep your voice healthy and tension up. Unlike other instruments like strings, drums etc, the voice is more delicate and even the things you consume can fuck it up. A guitarist won't lose his ability to play guitar if he smokes. A vocalist who smokes though will affect his breathing and vocal tone. If you want proof of why Show's voice could be sounding like that now, you can try singing one of their difficult songs. Try Gemini. The breathing in this song is crazy to me. If you like singing and know your breathing, try singing that song. Keep the highs high, no falsettos. If you aren't exhausted after that, either your diaphragm is a badass, or you do have better technique (most vocalists who've been doing this professionally can probably pull it off easily but it still is tiring). Imagine this song sang every day among other songs, for more than 1 year, shows that last 2 hours.
Show is a good vocalist, his voice simply isn't for everyone (no vocalist will ever be for everyone) and especially now that it's in a "weaker" state than what most people are probably used to.

who do i think of today???
the band Dream Theater!
i tend to present myself as being most into the more extreme metal circles, like death metal and black metal and all that good stuff, but Dream Theater holds a special place in my heart.
their album The Astonishing is one of my all-time favorite albums, "Count of Tuscany" from Black Clouds and Silver Linings is a freakin' masterclass is telling a story with song even in the instrumental sections, "Dance of Eternity" from Metropolis Pt. 2 has that one section we all go back and listen to over and over again because it's just that godsdamn metal (c'mon you know the one), "I Walk Beside You" from Octavarium gives me good vibes all around and isn't even the best song on the album, I could go on.
and it isn't just the songs either. the musicians themselves are always keeping it sharp but are also chill and are, like all of us down here, students of music. like, John Petrucci is somehow both an absolute guitar god and also the most chill regular dude to walk the earth. dude will talk to a clinic audience calmly with his asmr-worthy voice (okay maybe i'm biased) about a simple easy warmup drill before ripping a hole in the universe with how fast he plays the thing. John Myung is an absolute wizard on bass guitar, Jordan Rudess is like a max-level alchemist with how his keys make everything feel all cool and fill out the whole space, Mike Portnoy keeps the whole thing air tight with his drum work (plus his kit sounds awesome) and i'm pretty sure James LaBrie is a vampire aristocrat who just decided to become a singer instead because it's more fun.
and let's not forget all the folks who've played with the band in the past, as well as all the good folks who make their productions possible, the techs and road crews and drivers and all them wonderful people!
so yeah, i love this band! listening to them makes me happy. that is all.

Student Music-Maker Interview
The music-making process is something that I have always appreciated. So much thought, effort, and time goes into making something sound good. It is hard to combine everything, like finding the right notes, using your voice, and uniquely expressing yourself. Music is always evolving, and artists constantly use their minds to produce something different. This week, I had the opportunity to interview a student who made an amazing song called Grow. Her name is Mahima Muddu and she is a freshman at Rutgers. Her song is very peaceful and catchy. The instruments are amazing the singing is so calming to hear.
Here are some questions that get to know the artist and her song on a more personal level:
It’s so interesting to meet a student who makes music on the side. What inspired you to make music?
I’ve been playing music ever since I was a child. I was in piano lessons and I also played the clarinet. I also experimented with so many other instruments, like guitar, trumpet, trombone, drums, and the ukulele. I absolutely loved playing music, but I had always wanted to be on the other side of it. So, when I found out about my high school’s Intro to Music Technology and Composition elective, I just joined in my junior year of high school. My final test that year was to write a song. It was my very first song. That song is the reason I make music. I just loved that it was mine. My song. I made it. A real song! I know lots of people write songs and it maybe wasn’t that special, but it was my song and I loved that feeling. That feeling is the reason I make music, I think.
Wow, I can’t believe this was your first song. It sounded so professional! Was there any artist’s vibe you were going for?
I listen to a lot of Phoebe Bridgers, Mac DeMarco, and Mitski, but I don’t feel like any of that ever shows in the music I make. Although I try to make songs like my favorite artists, I usually feel like the song writes itself and takes on whatever vibe it wants. I think for the song I wrote for our Podcast Project, I was going for a Mitski vibe at the time, but it just never really took shape like that. So yes, there are artists that influence me, but not exactly how I want them to.
Tumblr media
I like that you took your own path. Elaborating on your song writing itself, how was the music-making process?
The music-making process is extremely fickle. I don’t know exactly what the right mood is to write music, but it’s usually extremely late at night. And it’s hours at a time. I’ll sit down for hours until the sun comes up and make a song. After that, there’s a lot of fixing and fiddling to make it exactly how you want. In the end, it’s never really perfect for me. There’s always more to do.
But for music making, it's pretty much only garage band and I really like using the drums and the synths. They're a lot of fun. For singing though, I have very little experience. I took singing lessons in elementary school and was part of the choir then, but after that, I never really focused on my voice but I did use it to demo my songs for the actual singers to know what it was supposed to sound like.
Just to get to know you better, what’s your favorite song?
My favorite song right now is Motion Sickness by Phoebe Bridgers.
youtube
This song was really good and I’m sure I, as well as many others, would like to hear more. Do you have any new projects you’re thinking about?
I actually don’t have any projects at all that I’m thinking about. Ever since I started college, I haven’t been sure where to take this music thing. I’m majoring in Computer Science and I don’t know how this could fit into it. I’m so busy with school and my job and I just wonder what I’d do with any more music if I ever made it. Music is on that ‘maybe’ level for me right now, even though I love it a lot.
I hope that she does continue music because even though it is hard to balance many things, finding time for things that you love is important. Above were a few questions that dove not just into the music-making process, but the artist and her background. It’s interesting to see how people are inspired to create music. She plays a diverse range of instruments and has a  distinct musical taste, and her music subtly reflects those qualities while also creating her own style.  I hope that she finds time to make more music because this song was great!

Why Dreamcatcher has one of the best vocal lines in kpop, a novel by me
First of all, it’s had to say who even is the vocal line in Dreamcatcher. Siyeon is the main vocalist, and Yoohyeon and JiU are lead vocalists. Handong is a vocalist. SuA is also part of the rap line (and is officially a lead rapper) although she’s rapped in like two songs and does a lot of singing, so that brings the vocal line to five members. There’s also Gahyeon though, who is a rapper and has actually rapped a good amount, but she still also mostly sings, so that’s a six-member vocal line in a seven-member group. Dami, the main rapper, is the only one who doesn’t sing so much, but she still does sing and sounds nice, so I think I’ll just talk about everyone. The whole group is the vocal line.
What makes Dreamcatcher’s vocal line so good is not only are they just great-sounding vocalists, they all sound really different from each other and each bring something entirely different to their songs. I think that’s important, especially in a group with a lot of members.
Because I enjoy comparing my favorites, think about BTS’s vocal line (plus Hoseok, who can kinda be put in the same category as Dami as the rapper who’s also actually a really nice singer). You have Jungkook, whose voice is hard to describe, but he’s just a super good singer. Then there’s Jimin, who has an entirely different tone and style of singing, very high and crystal-like in a way. Then there’s Taehyung with a much lower voice. Then there’s Seokjin, whose voice is also hard to describe, but it’s a nice voice in a softer way than Jungkook’s, if that makes sense. And then there’s Hoseok, who also has a lower voice, but it’s more raspy.
They all sound distinct from each other, and it just makes everything more fun because it’s like they all have a slightly different take on the way each song feels. Also it makes them stand out from each other more, so they can feel cool and people will want to stan them even more, and they’re not just “the other singer, no, the other one”.
Dreamcatcher has that sort of variety, too, and I’m going to gush about it, as well as how the members contrast each other and how each voice fits perfectly with a piece of the type of music they make and the concept they have.
Let’s start with Siyeon, Dreamcatcher’s main vocalist and one of the most underrated vocalists in kpop. The most interesting thing about Siyeon’s voice, besides her ability to hit any high note imaginable, is the ringing quality it has. She can make her voice literally vibrate with the feeling of the song, whether that’s sorrow on “A Heart of Sunflower”, a sort of desperation on “Break The Wall”, or quiet regret at the beginning of “Deja Vu”.
Siyeon also has an extremely cold voice, which she can make as soft as floating snowflakes like in her solo song “Entrancing” or as sharp as a shard of ice in songs like “Odd Eye”. She can sing in a lower voice, too, very soft and murmuring, but she tends to do mostly more powerful moments and high notes (undoubtedly her best one is on the end of the bridge in “Boca” - it’ll give you chills).
Dreamcatcher’s music has heavy rock and metal influences, with a lot of pounding drums and prominent guitar and bass, and Siyeon’s strong, distinctive voice is able to stay on top of it where a softer vocalist might sound lost. She shines on choruses where the sound is usually the heaviest, and she does a great job building up the intensity before a drop like she does right before the first chorus of “Odd Eye” or during the pre-chorus of “Maison”.
When she wants, though, she can also do the opposite, like on the bridge of “Scream” where the pounding instrumental is replaced by echoes, and Siyeon’s voice becomes a haunting almost-whisper.
Unlike Siyeon, Yoohyeon, a lead vocalist, doesn’t have such a unique sound to her voice- this is a good thing, because too many highly distinctive tones that vary too wildly could make the group sound disjointed. In a way, Yoohyeon is a sort of vocal glue that holds everyone together. The most notable thing about her voice is its silky smoothness, and her skill with vocal runs. Both of these are perfectly shown in “BEcause”, where she has some excellent note changes on the first verse and the bridge, on the first verse of “In The Frozen”, and she reaches heavenly levels of smooth softness on the outro of “Starlight”.
Like Siyeon, Yoohyeon also tends to sing higher, but she’s softer and smoother, giving contrast, and really suiting Dreamcatcher’s less intense songs well. Also in “BEcause”, which has more of an unsettling vibe than an intense one, there’s a part where SuA is practically just speaking in a low voice while Yoohyeon ad-libs, and the effect is like SuA is a witch controlling the listener, and Yoohyeon is the spell keeping them enthralled.
When she needs to, though, Yoohyeon can also turn up the intensity and sort of harden her voice enough to easily handle a strong chorus like “Odd Eye” or “Endless Night”. She also has the clearest voice in Dreamcatcher, so she’s able to sort of call out with almost Siyeon-level impact. See the second pre-chorus and her repetitions of “please someone fight for us!” in “Maison” or her coming in strong with the instrumental after Siyeon’s bridge in “Scream” and “Sahara”. She and Siyeon are both really good at making you feel a sort of desperation in a song if that’s what you’re supposed to feel: Siyeon through the sharpness of her voice and the feeling in the way she uses it, Yoohyeon in the way she can make her usually softer voice sound like she’s crying out.
Next we have JiU, another lead vocalist and my bias. Even more than Yoohyeon, JiU has a very soft voice. Not quiet, but soft and airy; it makes me think of a lovely floaty cloud. That sounds like she might suit more of a cute or innocent concept better than Dreamcatcher’s rock-inspired dark concept, and her bright voice does indeed shine in her solo “Cherry”, and some of their lighter songs like “Fly High” and “Whistle”.
However, her lighter tone is a great foil to members like Siyeon, Dami, and most of the others when they decide to go off. She lulls the listener into a false sense of calm before the drop in songs like “Piri” and “Scream”, and she’s the perfect first singer for songs like the kinda creepy-doll-vibe “BEcause” or the mysterious-begginning’d “You And I”. Her soft tone is also wonderful in contrast to the funky but slightly unnerving feel of “And There Was No One Left” - her voice is almost too sweet and creeps you out in a good way. Also her ultra soft, slightly distorted “welcome to my dream world, come come come in” right before the delayed final drop of “Good Night”- I was addicted to that for a good while after I first heard it.
Much like Yoohyeon, though, JiU can also strengthen her voice to carry a buildup like “Deja Vu” or a chorus like “Odd Eye”. (I keep mentioning that song, it’s just so good and everyone is so good on it.) She makes her voice suddenly rock hard and cold, almost so that it feels like she’s scolding someone, and it makes you sit up and pay attention because JiU is done playing nice and is about to go off. She doesn’t do it as often as Yoohyeon or Siyeon, but she can also hit some really nice notes like on the bridge of “Red Sun” or the post-chorus finale outro crazytime of “Maison” where she also brought in the sense of drama that Yoohyeon often does.
Next we have SuA, who is officially a lead rapper and sub vocalist, but she’s rapped in like two Dreamcatcher songs ever, so we’ll go ahead and consider her part of the vocal line. SuA’s voice is the shapeshifter of Dreamcatcher, becoming whatever a song needs her to be.
SuA has a very powerful voice, so she excels at parts of a song where she sort of shouts, like her parts on the pre-choruses of “Odd Eye” and “BEcause”. She’s also a wonderfully smooth singer as she shows on the pre-chorus of “Boca”, and she can make her voice unnervingly soft and seem to lure you in as she does on the pre-chorus of “You And I”. Still not done, she can also reach impressive heights, like she does on the bridge of “Boca” and also excels at using a sort of husky voice as she does at the beginning of “Locked Inside A Door” and her solo song “No Dot”. AND besides that, she can also reach impressive lows, like her demonic-sounding almost-rap on “Good Night” or her casting-a-spell moment in “BEcause” with Yoohyeon’s angelic vocals in the background for contrast.
SuA also has the ability to, it sounds like, flip her whole voice over while singing, a lot like Jimin seems to at times. Her “you’re my star-li-light” on “Starlight” is an example of what I mean.
My very favorite SuA line is on the first verse of “Scream”, where she starts with a rhythmic, rap-adjacent delivery over the thrumming instrumental, ending on an impressively low note that she takes a moment to shape. Then she suddenly goes significantly higher and faster, rising up and then going back down, and it sounds like a swirling wind caught her words up suddenly. (And the thing she said right before that was “cold wind blows”, so it’s just so neat.
Now we have Handong, an essential foil to every member I’ve talked about so far. Siyeon and JiU have very cold voices, and Yoohyeon and SuA are also usually on the cooler side, so Handong is warm. She has a much lower voice, and her tones are round and smooth. In an industry populated by so many higher, more girlish voices, Handong sounds more mature and sophisticated. She’s perfect elegance, never really reaching for a high note, because she never really needs to- her voice is just that beautiful, you can be enchanted with her singing normally.
If Handong’s voice had a color, it would be red-orange, and in a group full of blues and purples and bright whites, she’s a much-needed color that brings a lot more dimension to their songs.
Handong’s most famous line is her “oh now, holding this pain” pre-chorus from “Deja Vu”. The instrumental is subdued behind her, and her notes wash over the listener like honey. All her parts on “Odd Eye” are great, especially as a contrast to Siyeon, Yoohyeon, JiU, and SuA all going full power at various other parts. That’s one thing Handong does best, she’s soothing, in the most unexpected way, and then it’s time to go again. Another great Handong line is on the pre-chorus of “Wind Blows”, where she adopts a lovely lilting tone. She’s also beautiful on softer songs like “Starlight”, and her solo song “Winter” feels like a fireplace on a cold evening. One of the most wonderful moments in a Dreamcatcher song is at the end of that when she sings the last few lines a capella in her native Mandarin.
Don’t be fooled though, Handong isn’t all softness and elegance ALL the time. Well, she is always elegant, but not always so soft. With a lower voice, her tone can have a certain weightiness to it that makes the listener feel like what she’s saying is important, like on the chorus of “Maison”. On the finale crazy time of Maison, she and Dami, who also has a deep voice, each have a few sort of chanted lines as the instrumental goes nuts in the background, and it feels like a call to battle or some kind of last stand as everything builds up.
It’s really a shame that Handong had to miss several releases, first because of conflicting schedules, and then because she got stuck in China due to the pandemic after her stuff there finished. Everyone is happy to have her back now, though.
After Handong, we have Gahyeon, a rapper who actually does rap. She still sings more than she raps, though. Gahyeon also has a fairly low voice and sort of a husky tone. When she sings, it’s often lower key, close to a speaking voice, giving a sort of easiness to the song. One of her best moments is on the first verse of “Odd Eye”, where Yoohyeon has just dropped in some higher lines over a sparse instrumental, and then Gahyeon comes in singing low over a low electronic track that comes in at the same time. She also does something similar in “Deja Vu”, where Siyeon has just started the song with a haunting whisper, and then Gahyeon sings low and regretful just like the words of the song, and it’s just so effective. She’s another great contrast to the flashier vocalists.
As a rapper, Gahyeon also gets a number of parts that blur the line between rap and singing. She has a wonderful, impressively low part on “Break The Wall”. She starts “Boca” off with a rhythmic section delivered with perfect attitude.
Speaking of line delivery, Gahyeon is able to make her voice feel almost completely flat, giving her a dry “above it all” sort of delivery that really makes parts like the start of “Boca”, her parts on the first verse of “BEcause” and “You And I”, and the pre-chorus of “Maison” much more impactful. She sounds almost emotionless, but in an alluringly uncaring way. She also utilizes this when she gets more of a chanting part, like the now iconic “devil eyes come” on “Scream” or the cultish repetition of “red sun” on “Red Sun”. Gahyeon is good at leaning into the creepy aspect of some of Dreamcatcher’s music and concept, both visually and vocally.
I also love her on the post-chorus finale crazytime thing in “Maison”, where she just sort of sing-chants “la maison, la-la la maison” with a gothic sounding choir behind her- it’s just so freaking cool.
Sadly, Gahyeon was criminally underutilized in Dreamcatcher’s earlier music, receiving very few lines, most of them not very interesting, so she had few chances to stand out. After Rapper Gahyeon made her debut on “Piri”, she also finally started getting some more vocal lines as well, and seemed to gain the confidence to start using her voice on them to greater effect.
Finally we have Dami, the main rapper and the only member who has an actual case to not be considered part of the vocal line. Still, she sings sometimes, so I’ll cover her as well.
First of all, Dami has a DEEP voice. She usually sings in pretty much her speaking voice, so a low, husky sort of sound. Undoubtedly her best is on “Deja Vu”, where she sounds so smooth and gentle, and anyone used to girlcrush rapper Dami is undoubtedly floored. She sings beautifully on the bridge of “Odd Eye” as well. She also sounds amazing on the bridge of “Starlight” and parts of where she takes on a more raspy tone, and then Handong’s also deep but highly polished voice comes in as contrast. Interestingly, instead of rapping, Dami spends most of her solo song “Beauty Full” singing in a similar easy tone, which actually fits the feel of the song quite well.
Like fellow rapper Gahyeon, Dami also gets lines that blur the line between singing and rap, like the second verse of “Starlight”, where she drops her voice very low for a more understated rhythmic section. She also excels at the chanting parts of songs, bringing her own lower and more commanding take to the “devil eyes come” and “red sun” parts. Gahyeon sounds like “I could care less, everything will happen exactly as I want it” and Dami sounds like “obey me”, and both are greatly appreciated.
And that’s Dreamcatcher’s vocal line. Siyeon with high notes, bone-shaking power, and haunting whispers. Yoohyeon with an angelic sound and fierce determination. JiU with the softest tones luring you in and turning to stone when you least expect it. SuA with a little bit of everything and a lot of power. Handong with warm, polished lower tones. Gahyeon with calming husky singing or stone cold attitude. Dami with occasional moments of softness or raspiness for extra color. All contrasting and complementing each other perfectly.
I don’t really have a good conclusion. You should listen to Dreamcatcher, I guess.

Bono’s manager says Bono does all the work and I get all the money. Frankly I don’t have a problem with that arrangement.
Basically Paul McGuinness (above, right) is calling me a thief. It’s been all over the news. He gave a big speech at some conference in Cannes. See one story about it here. Money quote: “McGuinness challenged Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, to ‘apply his ingenuity’ to solving the music industry crisis. … `These are very clever people and a lot of fun to work with,’ McGuinness said about the technology and Internet community in Silicon Valley. `But they’ve been extremely socially irresponsible.'”
You can see the full text of his speech here.
Now look. I know Paul McGuinness. I’ve done business with him. He loves to tell everyone the story of how we sat down and made a deal on the back of a napkin. In one version of it he says that when he followed up a few weeks later I tried to change the terms and give myself a bigger slice but he whipped out his napkin and I was busted.
Whatever. I have no recollection of any such meeting. I will tell you that Paul was out in the Valley recently sniffing around and taking meetings and trying to figure out how this whole Interwebs thing works and where the money goes. I will also tell you that the Irish have a term called “a cute hoor” and Paul is definitely a prime example. Note, for example, that he says it’s not that U2 wants more money — it’s that I am being socially irresponsible. My goodness. Really?
The fact is that by the age of twelve your average Northsider from Dublin has forgotten more ways to skin you on a deal than any of us regular folks will ever know. And this speech by Paul McGuinness is a classic Northsider ploy. They play the victim. They dance around crying poor and moaning about the dole and the famine and meanwhile they’re cleaning out your pockets. Luckily for us the whole thing is blowing up in their faces and they’re getting savaged in the blogosphere.
What Paul needs to understand is that bands, like companies, have a normal lifespan and that U2 has gone well past its sell-by date. That’s just the reality here. Because let’s be honest. The truth is that Bono isn’t much of a singer, and Edge isn’t much of a guitarist, and Larry and Adam stopped getting better on their instruments back in about 1983. So these are four guys with a little bit of talent who got extremely lucky and were extremely shrewd and have milked their modest abilities for well more than they were ever worth.
Fine. Good for them. I’m happy for them. But to say that Apple is taking advantage of them is just ridiculous. Do you have any idea how hard it is to set up a store like iTunes? Or to design and build iPods? Does Paul McGuinness know that? Does he realize how many hundreds or even thousands of people are involved in making that whole system work correctly, from end to end? All the progammers and designers and engineers? All the user interface people? Not to mention the business people who cut the deals and interface with the talent and keep all the contracts up to date?
All of those people have to eat. None of them is getting rich. Well, except me. And maybe a few top guys right underneath me. But basically you’ve got thousands of hardworking people just making an honest living keeping this whole Internet distribution model alive and running.
Then you’ve got four retards from Dublin and their manager. Because ask yourself this. How much work do you think really went into writing any of those songs? Take it from me, I’ve hung out with Bono and the other guys and I’ve seen them when they’re drunk and I’ve heard them tell the stories. “Sunday Bloody Sunday” was written in ninety minutes when they were fucking around in their little rehearsal space. Started out with a drum beat, then some bass, then Edge threw some bullshit plink-plink guitar on it and Bono started shouting whatever came into his head. “Boy” and “October” were all just old stuff they’d written when they were in high school.
The entire “Atom Bomb” album took about a month from start to finish. I know because I was there when they were slapping it together. But now they think they aren’t getting paid enough. Well, I’ve got an idea. Maybe U2 could just make their own Internet, with their own routers and operating system, and they could code up their own store, and build their own iPods, and keep all the money for themselves. I think I’ll call Paul McGuinness right now and suggest that.

sayu
second chair violin
some days, she looks at the first chair seat and whispers "soon"
other days, says she dgaf, brings a blanket out, and tries to fit in time in rehearsals for a li'l snooze
is normally late to everything but she has the ninja skills to sneak in and pretend she was always there (probably bc she's tiny.. and a 2nd chair jkjk)
scaramouche
the fucking organ
"there is always time for a dramatic entrance" *villain origin story*
parents make him play at church but he's secretly an atheist
and his friends tell him to play in parties which always ticks him off because they then proceed to show him to a keyboard i.e. the inferior instrument... the OPACITY
thoma
trombone
prefers playing the bass trombone because the fart sounds are super deep ;)
depending on the day, he either plays very good or very bad, no in between
sneaks vodka (and his pet dog) into rehearsals to share with childe
yae
double bass
goes with the flow most of the time
nobody knows what she's thinking during rehearsal—she's so chill that everyone in the orchestra has their own theories about what she's really like:
is she a stripper at night? maybe she does nothing and sleeps in bed all day? who really knows?
yoimiya
bibbity-bobbity-boo! i assign the drums to you!
constant head banging
once, she was drumming her fingers without much thought against the table during class and accidentally disclocated a finger
*nervous laugh* "oops!"
aether
oboeist
malding, ugly crying when a non-musician calls it a clarinet
obsessed with his reed, has probably made an instagram account just for it
made a mistake? why not blame it on the reed!
la signora

nobody will forget about her instrument any longer!
will diss your playing ability if you call it a tuba
is probably the most likely to quit band/orchestra after a year (bc who needs the euphonium amirite? JKJK don't kill me euphoniums) but somehow becomes the judge at your next audition >:D
lumine
flute
if she's first chair, will fight people to keep it
otherwise, plots a way to get rid of the people in the chairs above her
loves her twin but please, can he actually learn to play his instrument properly bc at this point, he's playing the reed and not the oboe

A long bitch of an interview with Euronymous, from Orcustus zine in early ‘92.
What is Orcustus? Orcustus was an early 90’s black metal ‘zine run by none other than Bård “Faust*” Eithun— murderous pretty-boy, and o.g Euronymous simp. I think he might have also played drums in a band called Emperor... but I’m not sure! Its full name is actually “Orcustus— The Shadow of The Golden Fire”, and no, I’m not making this up.
This particular issue here opens up with a quote from a short story called ‘The Doom That Came To Thomas Parkes*’.
Assuming the reader hasn’t read the story, Faust explains that the quote is in reference to what happened to the titular ‘Thomas Parkes’ when he tried to raise spirits. Faust then admits that he’s unsure of his own ability to ‘raise spirits’, but says he hopes that he’ll raise some fists in agreement that there’s something wrong with the underground scene. Ironically (you’ll see why this is ironic very soon), he doesn’t like that certain bands, namely Entombed, are selling so many copies of their LPs.
After a brief diatribe on just that, he goes on to explain that he was in a rush to get this mag out because of problems with the printer. Then, he tells anyone who doesn’t like the fact that this ‘zine only features black metal that they can fuck off, with three exclamation points.
Finally, we get to the end of the opening page, where Faust pulls what can only be called an early form of the Twitter exposed thread. It reads as follows, with absolutely no changes to the text:
“I would suggest you to not do any business with that sucker Evil Ludo from France. He have riped me and several others off, by not return what we ordered. I suppose he’s a medical sensation, as I didn’t know it was physical or psychical possible to live without a brain”
Why am I telling you all of this, when this is only meant to be a transcript of an interview with Euronymous, you may be asking? Because I find it funny, that’s why.
Anyhow, the Euronymous here acts and feels very differently from the Euronymous of the last interview I posted. However, I hope you’ll still enjoy it, and I hope you’re able to appreciate the tiny glimpses of humanity talking to a close friend allowed him, even though they both behave like complete asses. Even though it’s hard to sympathize with him at points.
Like last time, any (sparse) commentary will be between (parenthesis) and in bold. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
.
F: Well, how in hell shall one be able to come up with an intro worthy enough for this band? The words I wanna describe Mayhem’s music with, is not yet created, and it won’t be created either, because no one has really experienced the real darkness and pure brutality with lays behind Mayhem’s hellish sound, but I suppose you all are familiar with this band anyway. Well, in the first place, I hadn’t really thought to enclose this band in this issue, because if we look away from rereleases of old demos (“Pure Fucking Armageddon”) and live tapes, it’s a pretty long time since their last release (in ‘87 that was). I thought I rather should interview them when they released their forthcoming album “Dee Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, but due to the circumstances, I realised the time was right for an interview now. I won’t bother you with any history shit, but I could tell a bit about what has happened last year. You all know that their vocalist Dead comited suicude in April ‘91, that was a bigg loss for the underground, and I suppose I don’t need to say that this mag is dedicated to the memory of that infernal man. Anyway, Dead was replaced by Cultòcùlus (back then called Occultus), but due to different problems within the band, he left the band in January ‘92, but let’s not say more about that, as Euronymous didn’t want me to say anything about it at all (but Euronymous, you must admit that it has sounded pretty artificial if I hadn’t mentioned it at all). So now, the band consists of Hellhammer (drums) and Euronymous (guitar (and probably bass too)). I know the singer of Tormentor (rip) from Hungary (Esihar Attila) is interested in singing on the album, and also even moving to Norway, so it seems like Mayhem got some sort of predilection to foreign vocalists, but this Hungarian guy happend to be a good one as well, so never mind that. But I don’t think this is official, so don’t tell anyone you read it here, ok? Well then, it’s an honour for me to dedicate the next following pages to one of today’s most legendary and infamous bands......... THE TRUE MAYHEM!!!!!!!
F: First of all Euronymous, I know you and Dead live/lived totally for the old black metal attitude. Is your hate now total to young and trendy bands after Dead’s suicide?
Euro: YES, we have declared WAR. Dead died because the trend people have destroyed everything from the old black metal/death metal scene, today “death” metal is something normal, accepted and FUNNY (argh) and we HATE it. It used to be spikes, nites, chains, leather and black clothes, and this was the only thing Dead lived for as he hated this world and everything which lives on it. If we had the economic possibility to do it, we should meet up at concerts and beat up ALL trend people ALL the time untill they would be too scared to go to concerts at all, now we need to suck their money instead. It’s impossible to stop the trend no matter how much we want, we have to do the best out of it and sell lots of trend shit to them. (I don’t need to tell you that that’s totally not why Dead killed himself, right?)
F: In the spring of ‘91 you started up a shop in Oslo which sells all sorts of music within metal. Is there anything you can tell us about the shop (ideas? plans?)?
Euro: Well, the original idea was to make a specialist shop for metal in general, but that’s a long time ago. Normal metal isn’t very popular anymore, all the children are listening to “death” metal now, I’d rather be selling Judas Priest than Napalm Death, but at least now we can be specialized within “death” metal and make a shop where all the trend people know that they will find all the trend music, this will help us earning money so that we can order more EVIL records to the evil people. But no matter how shitty music we have to sell, we’ll make a BLACK METAL look on the shop, we’ve had a couple of “actions” in churches lately, and the shop is going to look like a black church in the future. We’ve also thought about having total darkness inside, so that would would have to carry torches to be able to see the records.
F: Well, how is the situation all in all in the Mayhem camp right now?
Euro: Difficult as usual, but we’re closer than ever to record the Mayhem lp. Almost all the material is completed, then I and Hellhammer will record the whole thing with 3 guitars, 2 basses and so on. It will be very massive. Who’s to sing on the lp is not yet decided, we’ll wait and see what happens. We have several people who can do the job very well.
F: As Metalion of Slayer mag* said: “it seems like you at certain times lives on the edge of starvation”. Have you ever been on the thought to just give up the whole band and become a normal 9 to 5 person, or is this a completely stupid question to ask?
Euro: It has been very hard at times, but I am not a normal person anyway so it would just not be possible to do that. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why things are as they are (this answer will be long) (that’s okay for me/Ed). The reason why we don’t have any money, is because of hardcore. We have for too long been following the “underground” rules, which say that you must hate money, you must not think you are anything, you must be open-minded, you might have a lot of attitudes and so on. Extremely stupid. But the situation has been that if you don’t follow these rules which are made by hardcore pigs, you are not accepted as a death metal or black metal band! Then you MUST be signed by some big label to be able to make some money, and we’ve never wanted to do that. Then you would anyway be labelled as “commercial” by the HC pigs. This has caused that after 8 years, we are still as broke as ever, while the HC pigs themselves are controlling all labels, and they sign only the bands which fit into their own idiotic world, that means “death” metal bands with society lyrics and jogging suits, and this is what the people see when they grow up. They don’t see any EVIL bands with spikes, as we did. Well, I’m tired about being broke, just to be “underground”. I’m tired of not having money to eat for just because tons of people will call you a “rip-off” if you don’t write 20 letters each day. It’s time to say fuck off to the whole system, which is built to strangle the evil bands in the birth. We must start taking inspirations from the ancient ones, from Venom and their likes. They did their thing BIG, and they never had to think about any idiotic underground rules. They did it big and so must we, but it must never become a trend, it must become a CULT. This is why we have started on a brand new policy with the band and the record label. It’s about time that someone makes a label for black metal and other grim music, and STRIKE BACK. There is NO reason why DSP shouldn’t be as big as Peaceville or Nuclear Blast, if we can just get the business on its feet again and get good distribution. That’s the only way to compete with the HC labels. It’s about time we start taking control over our own scene. We must spread the EVIL bands and pervert people’s souls.
F: What about the Norwegian scene then? Don’t you think that something is terribly wrong when it have gone so far that we have a christian “death metal” band here (Crush Evil)? Advices on how we should kill them?
Euro: First of all— the Norwegian scene is the BEST. There are a lot of GREAT bands (yet with no album out) and of course some shitty trend bands, but nothing as in Sweden. There you have 2-3 good bands out of 100, while here we have a few shit bands who hardly have made even a demo, while all the great bands will make records in the near future. Such as Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal, Thorns (I’m flattered/ED*), Arcturus, Enslaved and newer bands like Malfeitor and others which I have not yet heard. BUT— when it comes to bands like Crush Evil, we must take serious action. It’s bad enough to have a couple of society bands, but a CHRISTIAN band is too much. But don’t worry, we have plans. They will not continue for a very long time.
F: And now over to something more humouristic....yes.... snuff movies. Who had been the perfect actor for a snuff movie, and why the hell aren’t they legalized? Don’t you think that every video-store should have its own section with snuff-movies?
Euro: Actually I think it’s great that movies like that are forbidden. If they were legal and easily accessible, all the small trend children would be watching them, and then it would not be something extreme anymore (I’m not sure if I agree with you here Euronymous. Snuff movies are usually too raw and brutal for the people with their “peace and life” infected minds. Remember the HC rules/ED) (shut the fuck up, Faust*) It’s just the same what happened to death metal— it became something everyone could buy in every store, something normal and accessible for everyone. All the mystic and evil atmosphere is GONE. I do not think snuff-movies are funny, I think they are DARK. I’ve seen people laugh at them, but that’s probably because they will not be mentally able to take the PAIN and EVIL on over themselves. That is the best way to watch such a movie, to try to FEEL the actual pain of the victims. It becomes much more gruesome then, and that’s great. One must be alone in the darkness and suffer with the victims, if you watch it with other people, they will often talk, laugh and so on, and then you get more distanced from it, it’s not supposed to be funny (death to fun), it’s much better when it’s depressive.
F: Through the years you have been talking about releasing bands like Samael, Rotting Christ, Master’s Hammer, Tormentor, Matricide, Imperator, Massacre etc. on Deathlike Silence Prod., but now some of these bands have released lp’s on labels which only have money in their eyes and know that black metal sells. Doesn’t that frustrate you, and don’t you feel it like the time is running out for you?
Euro: It’s a bit frustrating, but it is also a result of trying to be “underground” which is a suicide policy. Anyway, the main thing is that these evil records get released at all, and not who’s releasing them. We will probably release a record with Tormentor, they’re split up, but they still want to make their Anno Domini demo on vinyl, and we’ll try to fix it within the summer. The time is not running out, because there are a lot of really evil bands around. — most of the Norwegian bands which other labels haven’t heard about. Burzum is ten times better than all the bands on Earache together, and so are Thorns and Arcturus. So there is no problem, really. As for bands like Rotting Christ and Master’s Hammer, we might do something in the future instead. I’ve never been talking with Samael about any deal, but I wish I had as their album is FUCKING GREAT.
F: Almost all bands in the underground today says that they think they got their own style and originality, but the fact is that 95% of the bands sounds totally the same. What is an original death metal band today?
Euro: There exists no death metal bands today. There are only a handful of (mostly great) bands (in case someone hadn’t got it right— black metal has nothing to do with the music itself, both Blasphemy and Mercyful Fate are black metal. It’s the LYRICS, and they must be SATANIC. If not, it is NOT black metal) and what we choose to call LIFE METAL bands. Take a band like Therion. Their music is quite ok, it’s actually one of the best Swedish bands (even though that doesn’t say much) but their lyrics STINK. They are about society and pollution, what the fuck has that got to do with DEATH? If a band cultivates and worships death, then it’s death metal, no matter what KIND of metal it is. If a band cultivates and worships Satan, it’s black metal. And by saying “cultivates death”, I don’t think about thinking it’s funny, or being into gore, I’m thinking about being able to KILL just because they HATE LIFE. it’s people who enjoy to see wars because a lot of people get killed. How many bands think that way? Not many. I can’t think of one.
F: You’re maybe not the most active band when it comes to gigs, but at least you’ve managed to tour Germany and Turkey. What can you tell us from the tour, and is there any new gigs planed?
Euro: That tour was a big mess, we’ll NEVER take the train again! We lost quite some money, but still it was great to get to East-Germany and Turkey. The memories of the tour consist mostly of the starvation and idiotic custom officers, but still I wouldn’t like to have missed the opportunity. We don’t have any concrete plans, we’ll see happens in the future. We don’t like to play for a lot of trendies in jogging suits, so we prefer to leave it be.
F: What do you think of the fact that death metal has been on MTV?
Euro: It sucks. But it isn’t death metal anyway, so....
F: I know that you will soon release the debut album of Abruptum on DSP, so, what can you tell us about it?
Euro: It’s EVIL. It’s PURE EVIL, they were torturing each other in studio DURING the recording and you can HEAR on the music how they SUFFER. It will be the most demented record EVER, and it’s NOT for normal people. This is music which NEVER can become trendy, because normal people won’t be able to understand it. And that’s great. The price for the album it’ll be the same as for the BURZUM lp, which should be somewhere else in this ‘zine*. It’s called “Obscuriratem Advoco Amplèctere Me”, and stay away from it if you don’t like pure DARKNESS.
F: Don’t you think that people in the underground should respect others ideas and views more? I mean, it’s not accepted to spread unpopular thoughts. It seems like there is some sort of guardians of morality and most people keep in mind not to say or do anything which is not accepted by the public.
Euro: I don’t think people should respect each other. I don’t want to see trend people respecting me, I want them to HATE and FEAR. If people don’t accept our ideas as their own, they can fuck off because then they belong to a musical scene which has NOTHING to do with ours. They could just as well be Madonna fans. There is an ABYSS between us and the rest. Remember— one of the HC rules is that you must be open-minded (except for themselves), so we must be careful and avoid being open-minded ourselves. The HC pigs have correctly made themselves guardians of morality, but we must kick them in the face and become guardians of anti-morality.
F: You say you want your riffs to have a dark mood and really sound evil, but what if you came up with a riff which just sounded good, but not evil. Would you use it then?
Euro: Well, if a riff sounds good to me, it mostly means that it sounds evil too. At least when I make the music myself. Haven’t really thought about this about this before.
F: Do you think you’ve been playing this sort of music today if it weren’t for those old bands like Mercyful Fate, Venom and Hellhammer?
Euro: It’s impossible to say. Venom and the other ancient ones have been fundamental influences on Mayhem, and also the direct reason of the band’s existence. We like to think that if they hadn’t started up this, we would have, but who knows? Doesn’t really matter anyway, we hail ancient Venom as the CREATORS.
F: Ok, no more questions at the moment. End the interview in what way you want......
Euro: Perhaps it should be mentioned that well re-release the MAYHEM mini-lp “Deathcrush” VERY soon. We also have t-shirts available now. People should write for prices on things. Be EVIL, not open-minded.
Ok, I suppose some of you already know that Euronymous started up a shop in Oslo in the spring of ‘91. The shop is called “HELVETE” (which is Norwegian and means “HELL”) and are specialized within underground stuff and death metal in general (though he also have some other styles of music there). As he said in the MAYHEM interview, the shop really have a black metal look, so if you ever visit Oslo, I really recommend you to visit “HELVETE” as well. I think it’s good that people take the initiative to start up with such things, because if everyone were just passive, we would all get ruined by poser-shops like Hot Records where they take 140 NKR for the Earache albums (which you in “HELVETE” can get a CD for the same price). Euronymous also sells though mail, so write and ask for a list or something: HELVETE, Schweigaardsgt. 56, 0656 Oslo. NORWAY.”
That’s all! :)
And now for the things I put in asterisks, in order of their appearances.
*If for some reason you actually don’t know who Faust is, he was the drummer on the Emperor LP and “In The Nightside Eclipse” but you might also know him from other great hits such as “threatening to kill Mortiis from prison whilst simultaneously attempting to plead murder of the secondth degree”, “I’m glad the people Euronymous ripped off won’t get their money back because he’s dead hA hA!”, “I got fourteen years for murder because I’m a socially inept virgin— oops” and “bad... bad lyrics who’s quality somehow don’t improve with the passing of time”. All jokes are done in good humour— if it seems like I dislike him, it’s not that at all. I just find him easy to make fun of.
Here is another short bio, this one less sarcastic: he was born in Trondheim, lived around Kvikne, and Lillehammer, worked at Helvete, was a close friend of Euro’s, and has his sun in Taurus.
He also beefed with Glen Benton for dissing the Party City cape (Note: of course I’m being extremely reductive) he and Euronymous seemed to share. Here are a few pictures of Faust:
Tumblr media
Here is the infamous Party City cape:
Tumblr media
*This was surprisingly hard to find. I think he read it in a mag or something. Here’s a link to where you can find it: https://issuu.com/davidgamble/docs/paranormal37/3 page 64-65.
*Slayer mag was another zine, this one by a bloke named Metalion, who was Euro’s best friend.
*Faust (who felt the strange need to make a distinction between himself, the editor, and himself, the interviewer) also played in Thorns (well, Stigma Diabolicum), under the hilarious moniker: Fetophagia✨
*He’s being a fucking idiot, what was I supposed to say? It should be noted that Faust actually went down for the snuff films too.....
*In case you’re interested, for whatever reason, the prices for the Burzum LP were as follows:
Norge— 130 NKR
Norden— 100 K
Finland— 60 FN
Island— 1000 IK
Europe— 15$
Outside Europe,
Overseas— 15 $
Air— 22$
East Europe— 10$
By ‘norden’ he presumably meant ‘northern Norway’, and “Island” is the Norwegian word for Iceland. Notice the way he doesn’t include Sweden! (Edit: Originally I thought he didn’t include Finland because there was a black metal war with them as well, but it seems as though that feud came a bit later or had already passed)
That’s all, for real this time!
Legal disclaimer: I am absolutely, in no way shape or form, claiming that the stupid cape you see them wearing is literally from Party City. From my limited research, I’ve gathered that the Party City chain hasn’t yet opened its doors in the beautiful and glorious country we know as Norway— Norge. However, I am saying that the cheap, dinky piece of cloth covering their backs and shoulders are of the same kind of shitty quality you’d expect from a Party City Count Dracula costume and that maybe Glen had a point about how stupid Euronymous (and Faust) must’ve looked.......

part of the littera scripta manet series
word count: 0.9k
pairing: joshua hong (svt) x gender neutral reader
warning(s): none!!
genre: fluff, humour, established relationship au
tagged: @15jaeyun
summary: a late night drive with joshua reminds you of just how much you cherish the tranquil type of love.
a/n: hi 🥺🥺 thank you so much for the request and i hope you don’t mind me tagging you!! i hope this is close to what you have in mind and that you’ll like it!! 💕 (sorry if it’s a bit too short 😭😭 i felt like this fit better as a drabble ;;;;;) thank you for reading and i hope you all are doing well!!
Tumblr media
Joshua has very pretty fingers, you think to yourself as you lazily watch him drum them against the steering wheel along to the beat of the song that he’s currently playing.
You don’t know the name of the song or who sings it, but it’s very nice with its pleasant melody and the dulcet tones of the singer’s voice. Then again, since when have you ever doubted Joshua’s music tastes? You can’t help but smile contentedly as he softly sings along to parts of the song, thoroughly reminding you of evenings where he’d play his guitar and put on a mini performance in the living room just for you; or nights where he’d quietly sing you to sleep when your mind refused to rest.
At this moment, everything is tranquil. It feels like you’re being wrapped in a warm blanket as the two of you sit in comfortable, relaxed silence. You think of how people say there are different kinds of happiness—there’s the kind that stems from excitement, the kind you feel when you go on a roller coaster and that rush of adrenaline hits you; there’s the kind that feels like your heart is going to burst from how overjoyed you are, like when you receive unexpectedly pleasant news or when you first get together with someone you love.
Then there’s this kind of happiness where there’s no sensation that stands out in particular. There’s no peak that you can reach because it is simply peaceful, allowing you to enjoy a moment of ease because God knows life is anything but calm. Some would argue that there’s nothing special about this kind of happiness, but you think it’s exactly that that makes it so precious.
Extreme highs and lows are temporary, but perhaps it’s this serene type of love and happiness that can last a lifetime and you’d still never get tired of it.
Your eyelids start to droop as you lean against the cool glass of the window, about to doze off when you hear what sounds like heavy drums in the distant.
Your voice pierces the quiet ambience. “Shua?”
He hums, briefly turning to look at you to make sure you’re okay before redirecting his gaze to the relatively deserted road ahead of you.
“Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?” he asks, hand reaching out to turn down the music. The two of you sit in silence as you wait, and you take the time to admire how the warm glow of the street lamps outside illuminates his dainty features. Then, you hear the same sound.
“Thunder,” you both say in unison. “Jinx.”
Joshua giggles heartily at your synchronisation, and the corners of your mouth tug up further from the joyous sound of his laughter.
“That didn’t sound good,” he says, still smiling. “We better get home soon before it starts raining cats and dogs.”
You snort at the old-fashioned saying. “If a Corgi or Pomeranian falls from the sky we’re keeping it no matter what.”
“Mrs Jeon will kick us out for that,” Joshua jokes, referring to your grumpy landlord who before the two of you moved in, made it extremely clear that she did not want dogs in the apartment. “But if that happens then we’ll just have to keep doggo a secret.”
“I love when you enable my bad and probably illegal decisions.”
Your boyfriend beams cheekily. “And I love you.”
You roll your eyes affectionately, lightly pushing his head so he faces forward. “Eyes on the road, Hong.”
“Makes sense,” he relents. “We aren’t supposed to look directly at the sun, after all.”
“Oh my God, you’re so cheesy.”
“You love it when I’m being cheesy!”
“I guess,” you say, dragging out the syllables and giggling when Joshua pouts. If he wasn’t driving, you’d most definitely lean over the centre console to give him a kiss, but you suppose that can wait until you get to a stoplight.
When you do, Joshua cranes his neck to turn to you. He opens his mouth to speak when there is a loud crash of thunder, the booming noise drowning out his sweet, airy voice. Even so, you can deduce what he just said from the shapes his lips form.
But you like messing with him, so instead you tease in a sing-song tone, “What was that? I couldn’t hear you.”
Joshua whines exasperatedly. Nevertheless, he repeats his earlier words. “I said, I love you.”
“I love you too.” More than I can ever express, you think, but you know he feels it.
Because you also feel his love, even when it’s unspoken.
Tumblr media
The rain was already hammering down onto the world in heavy sheets by the time Joshua parked the car outside your apartment building. It’s at that moment when you both realised that neither of you brought an umbrella, nor could you find the spare one you’d keep on the car.
After practically turning the vehicle upside down, Joshua huffily concluded that Vernon must’ve took it with him the last time it rained.
“Let’s just make a run for it,” you suggested after a few minutes of watching raindrops pattering against the windshield. Your boyfriend looked at you like you were crazy, but slowly began considering the idea when both of your legs started to feel numb from all the sitting.
So you did. And despite how late it was, neither of you managed to contain your shrieks and giggles as you were almost instantly soaked through your clothes. You figured that the clattering of rain would be loud enough to cover up any sounds you were making.
The rain was unforgivingly cold, but as you ran up to the building with your hand encompassed by Joshua’s, you’ve never felt so warm in your life.
Tumblr media
a/n: man i hope the part about the different kinds of happiness made sense 😭 i’ve been thinking about that a lot lately but i don’t know if i managed to put it into words clearly enough ;-; anyways @/mr hong jisoo pspsppspspspsp if ur reading this this is my formal request to have you take me out on a late night drive <3 the way my standards for men went 📈📈📈 after getting into kpop
thank you so much for reading 💕 please do consider leaving feedback whether it’s a reblog, a reply or an ask, it would mean the absolute world to me as feedback really motivates and supports creators 🥺 and feel free to chat with me about juliet or anything else through my asks!! as always, take care and have a good day!!

A Completely Objective and Logical Ranking of Every Hetalia Character Song
New character songs are dropping,  I have too much time on my hands, let’s go.
Also here’s a Youtube playlist for the ~✨nostalgia✨~
Bring it on in the tags
71. Ah Legendary Class⭐The Awesome Me Highway [Prussia]: Absolutely tearing it up on the drums and on the vocal cords alike (I pray for Atsushi Kousaka). Great for the memes.
70.  Happy Thoughts Museum [???]: This is listed as an official song but I had literally never heard of the title. Then I listened to it and BAM! Smack back to 2013 watching the teasers for the show on Funimation. Not sure I’d count it as a character song though...
69. (Nice)  My Song that is written by me for me [Prussia]: Deafened me but I can appreciate the industrial grind.
68.  My House is...Quiet. ~With the Trolls~ [Norway]: I have never heard this song, nor can I find any version of it online. By default it goes here and I am so sorry Norge.
67.  Make a Wish to Santa♪ [Sealand]: The discordant notes and childish exuberance only serve to make this sound like a demonic plea to Santa to eliminate the singer’s enemies.
66.  Heaven and Hell on Earth [Rome]: Rome sounds like he’s been in the corner of a restroom. Extra points for the metal version, minus points for the fact that the beach scene was replayed like 1764 times.
65. Canada Complete Introduction [Canada]: Quiet af until Kumacheerio shows up and blows out your speakers. they did you dirty my darling 😔
64.  It’s Easy!!! [America]: I don't think any video of this has ever stayed up for more than 20 seconds. Sounds cool, but like I was listening to 20 different genres at once, someone make him calm down.
63.  Bù Zàiyì the Small Stuff ☆ [China]: I cannot for the life of me find the complete song anywhere, clips have a cool beat though
62.  Let's Boil Hot Water♪ [Italy]: Exactly what it says on the tin..though a bit too close to elevator music for my tastes.
61.  The Fragrance of Early Summer [Japan]: Very ‘from the books’ Japan-esque song
60.  Peace Sounds Nice…[Baltic Trio]: All well and good until the radio demon shows up
59.  W●D●C ~World Dancing~ [America]: How a song can sound like it’s from 4 different decades at once is beyond me
58.  Overflowing Passion [BFT]: This is just drunken karaoke and I have 0 clue what’s going on #iconicforallthewrongreasons
57. Ren●Ren●Renaissance♪ [Rome+Chibitalia]: Wholesome Grandpa with Grandson content - barring the fact that Italy sounds on the verge of a nervous breakdown and Rome has had too much wine.
56.  Roma Antiqua [Rome]: Similar energy to any one of China’s songs - there’s a part of the song where it sounds like he’s singing in the shower, and I will never not laugh at [CENSORED]
55.  Country From Where the Sun Rises, Zipangu [Japan]: Very chill, very Japan, but just meh for me.
54.  Moon Over Emei Shan [China]: Good message, okay song.
53.  My Friend [England]: What a mind palace you must have Mr. Kirkland
52.  With Love, from Iceland [Iceland]: Three words: Heavy. Metal. Puffin.
51.  Having Friends is Nice...♫ [Russia]: Russia is the cutest thing ever
50.  Mm. [Sweden]: Smooth transition from WWE Smackdown to shopping at IKEA.
49.  Why don’t you come over? ~Beyond the Northern Lights~ [Iceland]: I don’t want to be mean but...this does sound like the second closing theme to an anime whose first closing was much more popular (à la Soul Eater)
48. Gakuen☆Festa [Germany, Italy, Japan]: Sounds like a 60s song of the summer but oh dear their voices do not go together. Hella cute though.
47.  Wa! Wa!! World Ondo [Main Cast]: One time I travelled 10 hours in a coach bus with a bunch of teenagers to a city of note in my country, and the only souvenir I bought was the fucking PAINT IT WHITE DVD. Perfectly chaotic, UN ĐĕùX~~
46.  In the Bluebell Woods [England]: In the album cover for this song he’s holding a guitar but this is not a rock song. Still has ‘running through the hills’ levels of dramatism though.
45.  Poi Poi Poi♪ [Taiwan]: You’re telling me that Taiwan, someone whose has *ONE LINE* in Beautiful World (which is criminal tbh what kind of representation-) managed to get an eNTIRE CHARACTER SONG???????
44.  White Flame [Russia]: There’s something to be said for a song that is 3x the length of any Hetalia episode
43.  Ich liebe… [Germany]: Baking cakes for your friends has never been so wholesome.
42.  We Wish you a Merry Christmas [America, China, England, France, Russia]: Nice to see they’ve gotten their shit together since United Nations Sta-hmm.
41.  Ah, Worldwide à la mode [France]: Sounds like a Disney Princess song, hard not to picture France frolicking in a field of flowers.
40.  Che Bello! ~My House is the Greatest!⭐~ [Italy]: Would not be out of place in an advertisement for Sea World.
39.  May You Smile Today [Japan]: THE feel good song of the summer
38.  Let’s Look Behind the Rainbow [Italy]: I will protect you.
37.  I'm your HERO☆ [America]: “Anyone who’s sad or sullen will be arrested” did NOT age well.
36.  Mein Gott! [Prussia]: Alternating headphone effect at the beginning is cool, so is the confidence...the actual singing on the other hand...
35. Nihao⭐China [China]: Listen, all of China’s character songs are great, I just can’t vibe with this one like some of the others.
34.  Pechka ~Light My Heart~ [Russia]: I’m still having difficulty wrapping my head around the fact that this and Winter were released at the same time.
33.  Pukapuka⭐Vacation [Germany, Italy, Japan]: Seems just a bit too much like they’re running on a treadmill that’s picking up speed and trying to sing at the same time. Peppy.
32.  Santa Claus is Coming to Town [Germany, Italy, Japan]: This is unironically the best song sung by this trio; can only vibe with for two months out of the year though.
31.  Excuse Me, I Am Sorry [Japan]: Japan’s character traits speedrun. Gives me barbershop quartet vibes for some reason but is catchy as hell.
30.  The Story of Snow and Dreams [Russia]: A superhero anime opening in the making
29. England’s Evil Demon Summoning Song [England]: Sir that is not how you roast a marshmallow, don’t cut yourself on that edge.
28.  Moi Moi Sauna♪ [Finland]: Exactly the type of song you’d expect and it’s wonderful
27.  United Nations Star⭐ [America, China, England, France, Russia]: This isn’t as much of a song as it is a four minute struggle for everyone to sing without America yelling every 5 seconds...Like a particularly musical episode of Hetalia.
26.  Paris is Indeed Splendid [France]: Paris-pa-pa-pa-paris
25.  Absolutely Invincible British Gentleman [England]: Poppy, rocky, polka-dotty
24.  Vorwärts Marsch! [Germany]: To quote the comment section: “This sounds like a German version of I’ll Make a Man out of you.” There’s some truth to that.
23.  Hamburger Street [America]: The product of America’s rapper phase. 8/10 because he’s trying so hard and because I can unironically sing along to all of this.
22.  Hoi Sam☆Nice Guy [Hong Kong]: A song that would absolutely destroy the ankles of anyone in DDR.
21.  I Am German-Made [Germany]: There was once a version that had Germany and Prussia singing at the same time and it sounded positively demonic and Broadway could never
20.  La pasión no se detiene ~Unstoppable Passion~ [Spain]: Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping...
19.  Fall in Love, Mademoiselle [France]: Sounds like it should be in Mozart Opera Rock, I have kiss kiss falled in love.
18. Embrace the Très Bien Moi [France]: This is the definition of SELF LOVE PEOPLE.
17. Carrot and Stick [Belarus&Ukraine]: Absolutely DRIPPING in 2000s power ballad energy. The type of song that plays on repeat in the mind of the widow whose millionaire husband ‘mysteriously disappeared’ (and the only legit character song ever acknowledged by the anime)
16. C.B.C (Cowboyz Boot Camp) Vol. 1 [America]: AH MAH GAWWDDD
15. Winter [Russia]: Heavy metal fever dream and the perfect song for an angst-ridden teenager
14.  Seychelles Here ⭐ Vacation Island [Seychelles]: UN👏DER👏RA👏TED SONG👏OF 👏THE 👏SUM👏MER👏
13.  Nah, it will settle itself somehow [Romano]: One day I aspire to reach this level of chill
12.  Let’s Enjoy Today [England]: I will never not feel happy when listening to this.
11.  Einsamkeit [Germany]: Ludwig manages to air every single one of his worries about not being good enough compared to his friends and always being perceived as mean or uptight when he’s actually just a softie and now my heart hurts. 💔
10.  Aiyaa Four Thousand Years [China]: A very poignant and beautiful song about the passage of time and the inevitability of its passing; comparable to an ancient ballad complete with explosive crescendos and meaningful lyrics.
9.  Bon Bon Bon❤️C’est Bon C’est Bon! [France]: Peppy, cheerful, adorable, groundbreaking; has been my alarm tone for six years and I’ve yet to tire of it. 9/10 The moaning interspersed throughout has been an interesting wake-up call.
8.  Let’s Enjoy! Let’s Get Excited! Cheers! [Denmark]: This is on par with Everytime we Touch by Cascada in terms of rage potential unlocked (the good kind)
7.  Dream Journey [Japan]: Whoever’s playing the shakuhachi is absolutely KILLING IT. Dramatic, wonderful, great metaphors.
6.  Gourmet’s Heart Beginner Level [China]: Absolute banger, I’m a vegetarian but this would inspire me to eat shumai.
5.  Always with you...Nordic Five! [Nordic FIVVVVVEEEE]: Everyone harmonizes beautifully except for Denmark. Extremely catchy, number placement seemed appropriate.
4.  Pub and GO! [England]: I love this trash man
3. Maji Kandou⭐Hong Kong Night [Hong Kong]: If you thought Denmark’s song was a banger JUST YOU WAIT. I WILL BLOW OUT MY SPEAKERS LISTENING TO LO-HA-SU.
2. Steady Rhythmus [Germany]: THIS SONG IS METAL AF. Seriously, if it can be classified as ‘hardcore’ by my father and his group of 50-somethings who have decided to single-handedly gatekeep the metal and hardrock genres, it can do anything.
1.  The Delicious Tomato Song 🍅 [Romano]: Beautiful, absolutely awe-inspiring, poignant, catchy lyrics with an extremely deep meaning that only years of meticulous research and analysis can unlock, Romano I love you.
BONUS: Closing Songs
5. Hatafutte Parade (World Series)
4. Hetalian⭐Jet (The World Twinkle): The song is good, the dancing is cursed
3. Chikyuu Marugoto Hug Shitainda (World⭐Stars)
2. Marukaite Chikyuu (Hetalia: Axis Powers): nE NE PaPA
1. Mawaru Chikyuu Rondo (The Beautiful World)

MASTERLIST
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
"Hey everyone, so today I'm finally announcing my brand new song, that is coming out in 5 days. And as a lot of you have guessed already, it is a collaboration with people that I've admired for a few years now. I was friends with the lead singer since we were both very young, and it truely is an honor to be working with them." I say into my phone as I watch the chat of my live, fill with questions and comments.
"Can you tell us who it is?" I read out loud from the comments. "Yes I can! So my collaboration is with - drum roll." I hit my thighs to give a pretty pathetic drum role. "Måneskin." I squeal.
"You talking about us again?" I hear from the door next to me, I look over and see Damiano standing there.
He knows that the people on my live won't be able to see him from where he was standing, so he will try his hardest to annoy me while I try and be serious for the fans.
"Anyway, I'm very excited about this song, and I can't wait for you guys to hear it." I look down at the chat to see what the general comments are, and for some reason people are talking about Damiano.
I point toward the comment as he leans forward to see what it says.
"They can see me?" He asks confused.
Just as he says it, a whole lot of comments come in, asking if Damiano is on drugs or if he's just playing a prank. So, that just confirms that people can see him.
"Go get Vic." I say to him.
He rushes up to go and fetch Vic from the kitchen. I look at the comments again and answer some basic questions, like how was my day and if I'll be releasing more music after this Collaboration.
Soon He pulls Vic into the room and she looks at me with a confused look.
"People can see him from the door." I say simply. She furrows her eyebrows and tilts her head to the side. I point toward the live that's currently on my phone, and when Damiano bends down into frame, she realises that people can see him. Her eyes widen and she looks at me in shock.
"I know." I say.
"Can't we answer some questions, it's getting weird having you two communicate through your looks." Damiano says.
"Sure, uh let's see. This one asks what the single is called." I read off the screen.
"The single is called 'Gone Far' and I wrote it with these two, a few weeks ago, and it was so good that we had to put it out as a collab as soon as we could." Vic explains.
"And you should all go stream it as soon as it comes out." Damiano adds. "That's the right use of stream right?" He asks me, I giggle and nod my head at him.
"Another question, is if we could make one song that's not ours, ours, what song would it be?"
"What?" He looks extremely confused at Vic's words. I turn to him.
"So what song do you wish you wrote, like a famous song."
"Oh that's easy, that 'She' song that you play all the time." He says aiming it at me.
"Yeah that's a good song." I ponder off into my own mind.
"I would want the song 'wannabe' by the spice girls. I think that would be a cool song to have."
"Ethan would just love to dance to that." I laugh.
"Which song would you steal?"
"Zitte e buoni." I say seriously.
"Really?" Damiano asks.
"Um, yeah. Why wouldn't I? That song is pretty good. But I would need Vics's clothes from that music video too." Vic laughs at me but agrees to it anyway.
"Where are Thomas and Ethan right now? They're in the studio, playing scrabble. It's mostly just Thomas making up words while Ethan's rage slowly increases." Vic chuckles.
"Poor Thomas, he's trying his best." I defend him. "I'll catch up with you guys some other time, but for now I'm off." I say into my phone as I end the live. Damiano and Vic wave goodbye as I do so.
"Well that was something new." Damiano says, probably still confused as to why people can see him on live.
"You're welcome by the way." I say to them.
"Why are you welcome?" Vic asks.
"Because now you can be more active with your fans."
"You're right, but I'm not thanking you." Damiano lays down on the floor.
"I'll just leave you two alone." Vic gets up off the floor and walks out the door.
"Why are you so mean, just say thanks and it'll be over." I say to him.
"Thanks." He leans forward and placed a kiss on my cheek, before getting up and walking out the door.
"You're still mean!" I shout after he walks out.
"I know!" He shouts back, his voice coming out muffled, and yet he still makes me laugh with his annoying nature.

Richard Kruspe interview 'Welt' 2009
By Laura Ewert.
Some of the usual stuff (Richard's difficulty with dealing with the Rammstein democracy, this-record-is-the-last, being happy vs being meaningful, the 'old marriage' comparison) but i liked the part about the orginal lyrics of Pussy being too 'platt' which translates to 'flat' or 'uninspired' and they changed it to insert a bit of humor into it, because even though it must exhausting for the band themselves, i think the qualitycontrol within Rammstein is a good thing really.
(also, i think Richard got a bit annoyed with the interviewer, which i can understand.. 😇)
English translation:
"Rammstein are too smart to be right-wing"
They are Germany's most successful rock group. On the new album "Liebe ist für alle da", Rammstein, as usual, played the bugbear. WELT ONLINE spoke to their guitarist Richard Kruspe about porn, national symbols and the imminent end of the band.
Black hair, heavy rings, black-rimmed eyes - Richard Kruspe looks exactly as one had always imagined a Rammstein member to look. The 42-year-old sits at a large table in a room of the Universal record company in Berlin, smokes and smiles friendly. The discussion again can start: Are Rammstein dangerous provocateurs or ingenious creators of their total work of art?
WELT ONLINE: Mr. Kruspe, the current Rammstein single "Pussy" entered the German charts at number one. Despite a video that cannot be shown uncensored on television.
Richard Kruspe: Any other band would have said: We can't make a porn, it'll never be shown on music television. I heard that over two million people saw it in two weeks like this. So there are other ways too, you don't always have to bend. "Pussy" is very independent compared to the other songs on the album. Our singer Till initially only wrote the text in English and I thought it was borderline at first.
WELT ONLINE: In terms of content?
Kruspe: Yes, in terms of content. It was just too much. There is a certain kind of humor that I find good, but there are limits. Then at the request of the band Till wrote the German verses. In that way the text got a humorous touch that I can live with. It's not exactly what I define as Rammstein, but Rammstein simply is a mix of six different people.
WELT ONLINE: Who actually had the idea for the porn video?
Kruspe: We asked the director Jonas Åkerlund. He listened to the song and after three hours wrote an email back: "Let's start a revolution, let's do a porn". All you could see on the faces of the band members was a big grin.
WELT ONLINE: But you have had yourself doubled?
Kruspe: Well, that's the big question. It doesn't matter. It was a nice challenge. I always thought the porn business was dirty and cold, but it's not at all. All the people there were extremely friendly and very accommodating.
WELT ONLINE: The text is not particularly friendly and accommodating.
Kruspe: I cannot and will not say anything about the text. I am not the text writer.
WELT ONLINE: But you said earlier that the first text version of "Pussy" was a bit too much for you.
Kruspe: No, it wasn't too much for me. It was just too uninspired for me. The German verses gave it a certain sense of humor that I can support.
WELT ONLINE: It is said that this text should be understood as a criticism of German sex tourists.
Kruspe: If you see it that way.
WELT ONLINE: I don't see it that way. But can you tell me what your understanding of the text is?
Kruspe: For me it's a party song, nothing more and nothing less.
WELT ONLINE: The line "Put bratwurst in your sauerkraut" is excellent to roar along to when drunk.
Kruspe: I think that's extremely funny.
WELT ONLINE: What about those who don't understand this humor? Drunken hordes of men on the way to the "Blitzkrieg with the meat gun"?
Kruspe: There is aggression in every society. They are acted out differently. My children, who are 17 and 18, don't do that. The only thing I can do is make sure things are different in my small circle. But when you start thinking about these things as an artist, you start limiting yourself. But I have a problem with censoring myself. I grew up in a system where I was constantly censored.
WELT ONLINE: Doesn't the question of responsibility arise?
Kruspe: I'm not someone who goes out with a raised finger and says: That's how you have to do it. We never did that.
WELT ONLINE: But don't you also say that you want to criticize something by exaggerating social situations?
Kruspe: Yes, you could say that. But that still doesn't mean that we tell people how to live. Everyone is responsible for their own life. Everyone has to have their own experiences in order to learn from them. We are not the Messiah.
WELT ONLINE: So is your music just acting out your own personalities?
Kruspe: When making music, of course, a dynamic of its own develops that you have to live with. These are things that cannot be influenced.
WELT ONLINE: The cover of your album is reminiscent of paintings by Rembrandt.
Kruspe: Hieronymus Bosch is a better comparison. The cover was created in collaboration with a Spanish artist who just tried things. Journalists are always entitled to question the meaning. But good things happen out of a certain naivety.
WELT ONLINE: What is that metal toothed monster up there on the cover on the right?
Kruspe: It should be some kind of alien. I already forgot. It was pretty good what the artist had thought out. Some kind of alien that eats up all consumption. Very philosophical what he has built there.
WELT ONLINE: And the naked woman lying on the table has her hands chopped off, right?
Kruspe: Yes, but that shouldn't be taken literally, in the sense that a woman is being massacred.
WELT ONLINE: It looks like an offering.
Kruspe: I see more the abysses of this world in the picture.
WELT ONLINE: Next to the woman on the table are two men closing their pants. Are you one of them?
Kruspe: No, I am not.
WELT ONLINE: It's a rape scene really, isn't it?
Kruspe: If you want to see it that way. I always find art interesting when it leaves things open.
WELT ONLINE: Let's come back to ...
Kruspe: ... to the difficult questions? Don't you have something else to talk about? Something nice? About life?
WELT ONLINE: I still have one question about the record.
Kruspe: Okay, one more.
WELT ONLINE: You are clearly using national symbols. Be it the German flag, the desk reminiscent of pictures of Hitler's speeches ...
Kruspe: Yes, but in a very humorous way. "I can't get laid in Germany" is very funny.
WELT ONLINE: Well I don't think you're right-wing.
Kruspe: No, we're too smart for that (laughs).
WELT ONLINE: Why does sex always have to do with fighting and war in your songs?
Kruspe: For me, sex always has to do with passion. I am a romantic. On the other hand, I like it dramatic. We'd have to go back a long way to my childhood to see what might have gone wrong. I believe that musicians more or less unconsciously always bring things across in a dramatic and painful way. At least that is how it has to be for Rammstein.
WELT ONLINE: Are you a believer?
Kruspe: Religious? No. I believe in justice.
WELT ONLINE: A justice that arises out of the human being, or one that is imposed from outside?
Kruspe: I think there is an idea. Some say this is God. Before things are done or before they arise, there was always an idea from which there is also a sense of justice. Do you understand? I believe that it is important in life to be punished for certain things. I believe in the fate principle and the karma principle.
WELT ONLINE: But if there is this punishment, won't Rammstein face a hefty punishment?
Kruspe: We only speak out what is reality or what is part of society. The Church used to say what is good and what is bad. That's bullshit. Just because someone has a sexual orientation that the Church classifies as evil doesn't mean it is wrong. On the contrary.
WELT ONLINE: Does "love is there for everyone" also mean that any form of sexual love, including that which is socially ostracized, is a part of humanity?
Kruspe: "Love is there for everyone" is a very Christian thought. Of course you have to ask yourself, is love really there for everyone? I would wish it to be that way. Can we forgive those who misunderstood love? I often think about it and fail and get a little further and go back again. Especially when you turn 40. A lot happens there. Especially with men.
WELT ONLINE: Yes? What?
Kruspe: For me there are two options in life. Be happy or be meaningful. And as a musician you naturally try to lead a meaningful life. The big problem with me is that my longing for happiness is great, but the strength I need to be creative comes from suffering. Even if you do not suffer, you try to bring it into your life somehow in order to be able to create again. A cycle. If I were happy I'd know I would never write again. I tried to find happiness outside of myself. And now at 40 there comes the point where you try to find something inside me that makes you happy.
WELT ONLINE: Can't you catch the creative moments by now?
Kruspe: I used to try drugs. I used cocaine a lot. You reach dimensions that you would otherwise never be able to reach. You can edit a kick drum for eight hours. This creative power comes to me in different moments. It's buzzing in the air and the only thing you can do is be open. And then the moment is gone again. As if a cloud is passing by and you reach for it and then wait for the next cloud.
WELT ONLINE: One hears that the current record could be the last of the band. Is Rammstein going to dissolve?
Kruspe: At the moment I couldn't imagine going back to the studio with the experiences of the last record. But I could imagine touring further. In a band you're trapped in an image. It's like a soap opera that never ends. You have your character and you play it. And then this Rammstein democracy. We have discussions every day. Everything is talked about and talked about. And voted. In a band you don't have that kind of sexual discharge that you would have in a relationship. It's like a long marriage with us. You just don't like to sleep together that much anymore.

Music au
We know of the people who can play musical instruments. Luka plays guitar, ivan plays the drums, juleka plays bass, rose can sing, adrien can play the piano, etc. BUT WHAT IF. STAY WITH ME. WHAT IF. THERE WAS MORE.
Alya can ACTUALLY play the flute, she’s been in orchestra for 2/3s of her life. Nino’s been learning violin since he was 7 years old. Alix, shortest girl in class? Plays the fucking cello and is not afraid to hit a bitch with it.
Kagami can play the drums like a beast (little side plot about how her mother sent her to like... piano lessons or something as a kid but she went to the wrong teacher on purpose bc piano was boring and now she can do epic drum solos and Ms Tsurugi just has to come to terms with it. Even funnier bc shes blind, Kagami would play recordings of piano in her room for her mom to hear and then she’d set up her electronic drum kit and play it w headphones on. Big Sneaky.)
Max plays the trumpet and Mylene plays the saxophone. Sabrina plays the tuba or the trombone or smthn. (look, max/mylene/sabrina being brass buddies ok) Meanwhile the biggest jock in school, Kim Le Chien, is an opera singer.
Lila you may ask? Plays the oboe, aka one of the instruments that requires you to make faces like this:
Tumblr media
(either that or maybe she’s like into ballet, also an interesting turn)
Bonus if they all go to one of those gifted kid schools with a killer arts program where everyone has to have like major talent to be there. Chloe got in because her dad is a generous donor to the school, doesn’t really have any talent w anything and plays it up all mean because she’s insecure.
And Marinette, you might ask? She doesn’t have a single damn musical bone in her body. She’s surrounded by musical skill, but she cant play anything. She’s there because she’s an extremely talented designer, and normally the school wouldn’t consider it, but she has references and recommendations tied to the Gabriel brand of all places, so she’s a special case. The only other person like her who she can relate to is Nathaniel, he got in because he’s really great at painting (classically trained n all that) so he looks good in exhibitions for the school n stuff. Basically, everyone is super fucking fancy and Classically trained at Everything they do and it makes Marinette feel insecure and left out.
And maybe at the end of the year the class has to put on a performance for the end of school (maybe for grades or they win a thing or whatever) and everyones like “ok we’ll do an orchestra piece or smthn” but everyones personalities clash together and nobody can agree on anything, they cant find a spot for marinette or chloe or Nath and its all going downhill. Lila likes it because she gets a spot in the limelight, but it ultimately falls apart and she doesnt like that. Until its one of those “well lets celebrate the individuality of the class instead of being boring as shit!”
Kagami gets to do her epic drum solos that make your heart beat go 50000 bpm (and makes her mom proud of her in the process), Kitty Section in particular makes an appearance, whacko costumes and all (made and designed by marinette might i add) and they sing a rock/metal piece. Alix and Nino get to express they’re love for hip hop with their stringed instruments. Kim gets to play the opera role he’s always wanted to in some kind of epic mash up, the brass kids get to play a cool part maybe w jazz or something vibey (w set design made by Nath and Mari probably). And then Alya comes up with this light show/flute thing (AHEM reminscent of rena rouges mirage power, also all the visuals are put together and made by Nathaniel to show how he likes modern versions of art too, not just classic painting). Marinette designs all the costumes, and Chloe does what she does best. Bossing people around.
She becomes the director of the whole show (she has some personal motivation, like wanting to make her parents proud or proving something to someone who said she couldn’t do anything). Lila is jealous and insecure and tries to sabotage the whole thing and make her classic orchestral piece (or do her ballet thing where she gets to be the star) the only good thing in the show. But CHLOE manages to save the day with her quick thinking skills, great improvisation, and fearlessness in the face of pressure and fixes everything! (See she works really hard... like a worker bee.... woah haha)
And then they win and its all great!! and Lila realizes she needs therapy!!! And she says sorry in the end and not everyone forgives her but its a start and then theyre on to their second year of Being A Gifted Kid school! MAYBE some romance subplot and tension, idk.
The basic thing is the school is very obsessed with being a pretentious twat environment, even if the learners aren’t all interested in classic stuff (some are, like lila, but like. Nino’s into hiphop and Nathaniel wants to make comic books, not landscapes). Marinette is in an awkward position because they’re trying to put her in a Classical Box but,,,, its fashion design. The point is that it develops with the times. And shes the one who inspires everyone to do what they’re interested in rather than what the school expects them to do. And when the teachers pick up on this, they dont like it, and lila (who has some beef w marinette bc shes jealous n low self esteem or smthn) thinks that if she gets marinette in trouble for it she cld be expelled!! And she can be the star again!! And its like!! Classic private school drama!!! Ill shut up now!!!

A Number of Oddities
Tumblr media
It hurts to say Tik Tok got me to write this fic. And it hurts even more to say that I am now extremely gay for the singer in Halestorm.
Karaoke wasn’t really your thing, so when you had agreed to come with Jihoon to sing late one night- he had been admittedly surprised.
Too surprised to question the lack of hesitation when you had agreed?
No, absolutely not- but surprised none the less.
He had been a little bit more surprised too when you sat yourself down on the karaoke couch beside him and- insisting that you were just there to watch, began to drink a glass of Soju.
You were a lot of things. In fact, you had always been one of the more interesting people in Jihoon’s life. You were kind to just about everyone that you happened to come by, and you were more social then most. If need be you were always happy to say hi to someone or help a random stranger in need.
Amongst that, you were always glad to keep your friends' company, even if it meant doing something you were uncomfortable with.
It was common knowledge amongst all of you and Jihoon’s friends that you didn’t sing.
Why? Jihoon was unsure of really. Whenever the question was posed, you just shrugged it off and changed the topic so that no one could really be sure if you were just bad at singing, or too shy to do so in front of people.
You had had plenty of opportunities to sing with them as well. It wasn’t like anyone was pushing you on stage and insisting that you sing a solo up there under a single spotlight. You accompanied them to karaoke every now and then and watched as five or six people would ugly scream the lyrics together.
But never did you sing along. You just smiled as they sang in the car and laughed at Seungkwan while he sang lyrics alone on dark cold nights.
Jihoon had always found it to be your oddest characteristic. But none of the others really seemed to care much about it, saying it was probably just a personal thing of yours and not too look to into it. After all- it was probably nothing.
And so normally Jihoon just respected that distance with you.
But at two in the morning, when there was no one else awake to sing karaoke, and he couldn’t write another lyric without wanting to puke, he didn’t exactly have a lot of options.
And again, he really hadn’t expected you to say yes. But he found you in the kitchen, wide awake, flipping through your phone while you downed a bottle of beer that had somehow found it’s way into your hands, and all Jihoon could do was go ahead and ask if you would come.
Another oddity from you today, was definitely the drinking.... You weren’t a drinker. If anything, maybe you drank too much soda, but drinking too much alcohol? God, Jihoon couldn’t recall seeing you pick up a second glass of even a shot, much less, see you getting drunk.
You always stayed sober, and you always babied whoever you were with. So, seeing you so clearly set aside your general standards for the evening by drinking so much, worried Jihoon.
But-
“Hey... Are you okay?”
“Just thought I would have a good time too! I’m excited to hear you sing without the others around Jihoon! What are you going to sing first?”
Evasive as always.
So as Jihoon began his night of solo karaoke, he didn’t worry about why you were being so odd. And he just sort of decided to let you be you.
Jihoon wasn’t sure exactly what possessed him to play a rendition of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Maybe it was because it wasn’t a version of the song that he was really familiar with, and he wanted to test himself with this particular song, but either way he ended up clicking a rock version of it.
The song started early, and when it did, Jihoon noticed your head perk up. He wasn’t going to comment on it, but before he could turn from you, you had jumped up excitedly.
“I know this song!” You exclaimed excitedly. The excitement threw Jihoon off- that was for sure. His eyebrows furrowed and he missed the first few lines of the song, but that just made you more excited. You nudged his side and grinned.
“Come on Jihoon! Sing!” You encouraged. Jihoon’s expression didn’t change, but he did pick up from where the song was. As the first verse went through, and Jihoon barely kept with the changing pitch of the song, you watched in pure excitement. Your eyes told him when he needed to drop his pitch and when to raise it.
But it was when the chorus started playing that you really started to itch. You practically bounced in your spot, your lips spreading out in excitement.
“Oh my god, I love this part,” You exclaimed.
“You and me we have a-”
You reached for Jihoon, grabbing the microphone out of his hand as the music rose. You stepped up on the karaoke table, stumbling a bit as you stood upright and then just as the drums started to go wild on the instrumental, you screwed your eyes shut and began to belt out one of the most beautiful high notes that Jihoon was pretty sure he had ever heard before in his life.
Considering he had never heard you sing before, the assumption that you were some no talent wasn’t really that far off. Everyone had always assumed that you simply didn’t know how to sing at all.
But hearing you hit that note- and hold it out for as long as you were- inebriated at that! Jihoon sucked in a sharp breath of surprise. You turned back at him once you had reached the end of the note, a lazy smile crossing your lips.
“I absolutely killed it- Didn't I?”
There was certainly something off about you tonight.
Your eyes were a little redder than usual, and your cheeks matched the color. There was the fact that you had agreed to come to karaoke with him tonight, and the fact that you were drinking so much.
But there were other things too.
Like, how had Jihoon never noticed how beautiful your smile was?
Sure, he had noticed before. But had he really paid good enough attention to the way that your eyes wrinkled in the corner when you were really happy about something. Or how about the way that you would laugh so hard sometimes that your whole body moved with it. You would begin to tilt back your head and make your back arch as well. Soon enough you were laughing so hard you could barely keep your balance.
And most spectacularly- probably the way that you touched him.
The purposeful way that your fingers would brush against his and you would smile at him like you being so close was a connection that only the two of you really shared. Jihoon adored the way that you would pull Jihoon close to him- like a shield when you got overwhelmed by the amount of people around you two when you went to the mall and it was too crowded.
Jihoon blew air out of his mouth briskly and shook his head. He wasn’t sure what had gotten into you today. Or why you had decided that you could come clean about the secret you had kept from all your friends for years to Jihoon of all people. But in the end Jihoon knew one thing for sure.
You were born to sing.
You were made to be under a spotlight with a microphone in hand on centerstage. It was just where you belonged.
He smiled at you and offered you his hand. You took it without hesitation.
He was completely and utterly in love with you.
“You didn’t just kill it. You slaughtered it.”
And he was going to do anything to get your voice heard, because you were the muse, he had been desperate for his entire life.
