Boomers, Gen X & Millennials, We’re Talking To You

Tutorials & tips about Video and Content Marketing.

“Germany, we’re coming for you,” said a speaker at Visit California’s Outlook Forum in San Fransisco this past February. He reminded the audience that if California was a sovereign nation, it would be the world’s 5th largest economy (ahead of the United Kingdom and India, and behind Germany).

I traveled to the Visit California forum to pulse check the travel industry. Here are some of my learnings:

1. Content creators are re-introducing destination spots

Content creators are taking social media audiences to places they’ve never considered, with new vantage points.

Gone are the days where the Hollywood Sign or the Golden Gate Bridge are the main draw; people are looking for a more localized experience – a dive bar off of Highway 1, or a cliff with a perfect sunset view, perhaps.

(IMO, the GGB is still amazing!)

In contrast to influencers, content creators provide relatable and everyday human viewpoints without being overly produced. This new behavior drives higher engagement and is re-energizing travelers as pandemic regulations and mandates lift and shift.

2. Social listening is still valuable

With any global footprint or audience, breaking apart and digesting market uniqueness is essential to creating content that attracts your audience.

ICUC’s Director of Strategy Jazmin Griffith spoke at the Forum. She explained, “Social listening helps put your strategy to the test. You can’t create content for your consumers without listening. Consumers want mission-led brands and social listening can be the key to unlock that.”

3. Safety remains at the forefront for travelers

Visit California’s research revealed most international travelers still say that the safety protocols are an important consideration to them in selecting their destination.

If you’re in the travel sector, or if any part of your content involves mobilizing people to travel, get clear on your destination’s regulations around COVID-19, and provide accurate information all digital touch points.

4. Tiktok is now a need, not a want

TikTok was mentioned at every. single. talk.

Some of our readers are on the platform. Just make sure to maintain a measurement framework, foster partnerships with creators, and plan for community management. From there, you’re off to the races.

Perhaps you can be like @tk.california, a Forum fan favorite dubbed the “unofficial California advocate.” His method to follower growth? Roasting other states (gently, of course).

5. Gen Z is in high focus

As Gen Z enters the workforce with money to spend and places to go to, their values and behaviors are making a stronger impact on the hospitality workforce and travel industry.

A disruptive generation born between the 90s and less than a decade ago(!) with an incredible amount of passion, they appreciate advertising and messaging fit their unique needs. They prefer it.

According to JUV Consulting, 31% of Gen Z respondents said they think about cultural appropriation when traveling and 46% said they get most of their travel inspiration from social media.

Some of you may be thinking – ‘That’s still not my target audience.’ Fair. But in our book, understanding a NEW generation provides contrast to understanding former generations.

We often don’t know who WE are until we have someone or something to compare to (Boomers, Gen X & Millennials, we’re talking to you)

Astro Observations Pt. 3

House Edition

🏡 having one or more than one personal planet in the 3H can make someone quite talkative; maybe even to the point where it’s annoying 😳 they also may have loose lips/trouble keeping secrets. this also applies with having the 3H in an air or fire sign

🏡 one thing that really opened my eyes about those with uranus in the 8H is when i watched a documentary about marylin monroe and another about natalie wood. i noticed that they both shared this placement, along with many others who have died tragically and unexpectedly. some young, some old, some taken by a random twist of fate, and others taken by the hands of others or their own. this placement, of course, is not a guarantee that this would occur to all 8H uranus natives but i found it to be a very interesting similarity. the planet uranus, vibrating with unpredictability and eccentricity, electrifying the house ruling death, finances, and transformation. this is a very powerful placement here, and it’s energy must be handled with care but still allow the native to feel unrestricted

🏡 To piggyback off of the previous, I have also noticed those with pluto in the 8H die under similar circumstances. Their deaths are usually shrouded with scandal or some kind of drama, whether it be financial or sexual, and sometimes these themes can be the cause of the native’s demise. The main difference I have picked up here is that for pluto it can be less unexpected/random when these deaths occur, and more so transformational, which in turn can bring others together (within family units) or leave a gaping hole from whence they came in the mortal world. Once again, if you have this placement, please don’t fret. I have this placement and I plan on living a long life whether it is in my stars or not

Prime example: Diana, Princess of Wales had pluto and uranus in the 8H. Her death was not only shocking but terribly tragic. Yet, after her death, new information came in the throes of how she was treated and the emotional/mental turmoil she experienced as a royal. Not only that, but her name was (unsuccessfully) smeared in countless tabloids regarding her eating disorder and supposed infidelity. Though an article recently was released covering how much Diana’s death affected the Queen and made a large impact on how she treated the royal wives of her descendants in the future. People from all over the world remember her; mostly (and unfortunately) by her death and the drama that continues to follow it.

🏡 Moon in the 2H natives are very attached to their material belongings. They do not like when people move their things around and would 100% beat your ass if you tried to steal from them. They also find comfort when they are financially stable and can purchase things for themselves that they want/need

🏡 Mars in the 10H individuals are extreme go getters. Depending on the sign and aspects (but i have observed a scorpio mars + aries mars here) but determination is at the forefront. Reputation is seen as motivation to maintain either for good or for bad. There is an indication for this placement (imo) for the native to sleep their way to the top at work or throw others under the bus to move up. The scorpio mars individual had her lilith in scorpio as well with a tight conjunction and it most definitely amplified this energy

🏡 my mother has scorpio and sagittarius sharing her 1H and she can suss out a bad vibe within minutes. Scorpio 1H even with a splash of sag or libra have some of the best intuition

🏡 pluto in the 5H folks, please just shut up and watch the movie. I am begging 🤧 (lovingly)

🏡 (not house related but does it really matter?) Interacting with someone who has their mercury in fall to your domicile or exalted mercury can be those that you communicate the most difficult with. They can be those that frustrate you with their words or those you just cannot understand how/why they communicate the way they do

Example: I have mercury in virgo (exalted; at home with the planet of mercury) and I truly cannot ever carry a proper conversation with a pisces mercury (fall) and I honestly wouldn’t care to 🫢 i’m sorry

🏡 I have lilith in the 6H and I have only made this observation within my own perspective (I haven’t met any other lilith in 6H natives). But it seems that every time I start a new job people suddenly start to quit or a bunch get fired and I’m the one of few left to pick up the slack. Working is never easy or simple for me, as there always seems to be a recurring toxic/drama filled energy wherever I work. It is one of my least favorite placements in my chart 🫤

🏡 one thing i have noticed others saying about mars in the 7H is that it is a possible indicator of winding up in an abusive relationship. While this is true, as I have seen it myself, I have not seen others mention how sometimes this native can also be the abuser. depends on how their mars is aspected and how this native deals with their own demons

🏡 those with saturn (ruler of time) in the 5H (rules children & fertility) may have trouble conceiving or it may take longer for them to be able to have children. Those I’ve met with this placement don’t want to have kids at all or have been trying for years

🏡 11H stelliums can be very personable and well connected. This either applies to humanitarian and activist like things or having a crap ton of friends and being involved in many social circles/clubs. My coworker has an 11H stellium in cancer and she has friends everywhere, but only one best friend, and she always knows somebody if you’re in need of assistance/a service. They are very helpful people with a great love for togetherness, but in a more collective way rather than personal (depends on which planets are here) and they like to stay very busy. My boyfriend also has an 11H stellium but in taurus, and when he was in school, he was highly involved in academic and art extracurriculars (to the point where it almost burned him out). He was very well liked, and still is, and he knows people from literally all over the world. I personally love this stellium and the people I have met with it have definitely made positive impacts on my life; like I said, they are extremely helpful people

🏡 mars in the 1H/aries in the 1H are extremely accident prone! Not like life-threatening (is a possibility though) but scratching yourself up, getting cut, bruised, or falling is at high risk. Please be careful and watch where you’re going as it will be much easier for you to hurt yourself by moving too quickly! I can vouch for this 🤕

🏡 I also have aries sharing my 12H and I scratch myself in my sleep on the daily. I am a very active sleeper (I also talk lmao) and used to literally fight people for space in the bed 🤣 I still do tbh! I also cover myself in shea butter every day bc I wake up with scratches and marks I don’t even know about until someone points it out. If you have an aries 12H or even a portion please let me know if this happens to you too 😭

ok so sorry in advance because i already know this is gonna be kind of long and rambly but i have a genuine question. if you’re seeing this you probably know i make a lot of hairs for black sims which is relatively intentional on my part because there definitely isn’t enough textured hair in the sims and even with amazing creators like @sheabuttyr a large majority of cc hairs (especially mm hairs) are made for nonblack sims. and like. i try to be an ally outside of the sims community and i do hope to one day establish myself as someone who is at least somewhat reliable with making black hair for this game. but at the same time i’m somewhat wary because i also don’t want to be overshadowing(?) black creators or taking attention away from them. and there’s definitely a fine line between contributing to a community and placing oneself at the forefront of it and to be honest i’m not entirely sure where that line is, just that i don’t want to cross it. for example the majority of the sims in my cowan legacy are black or mixed because that’s just the way things played out and i don’t really post about them but if i did i would definitely be worried about taking the spot of an actual black simblr. because having allies telling black stories isn’t enough (and imo can sometimes border on appropriation depending on how it’s handled but that’s another conversation) we need to put a spotlight on actual black creators and their work. so i guess my question is this. what can i do to create more diversity and contribute to the black sims community without co-opting black culture or placing myself in a community that i’m very much not part of. if that makes any sense.

and yes this is question is very much aimed at actual black simblrs if you aren’t black you can still respond but i will take your words with a grain of salt.

imo idgaf anymore what the twitch frogs think about the minecrafters, it's always wannabe edgelords who just like to gatekeep and hate women...I used to be annoyed with the amount of shitty chatters in dsmp streams, but they're just kids and they likely don't even know twitch culture so I think it's fair to just let them live and have fun...dteam and the rest of the dsmp completely ushered in a new era on twitch and I can't bring myself to hate them for creating a more inclusive space in the gaming community no matter how many shitty cosplays I see 🤷

you shouldn’t! i get the disdain a lot of twitch streamers and viewers have for the fanbase and their chatters but tbh compared to some genuinely incel-ridden, racist and misogynistic chats and communities, i’d say it’s not that bad

yooo this is me from the future checking my drafts and realizing i never responded to this IM SORRY. my previous point still stands and i also wanted to add that these crafter chatter kids are also just a form of cringe that isn’t “acceptable” to these normal twitch frogs bc the cringy humour isn’t derived from humour they understand i feel (quote unquote girly humour), does that make sense? girls are also just easier to shit on lol. however i do think that as much as you should let them have fun, they need to learn to be respectful because even more than “cringy”, they have awful twitch etiquette and a lot of times make chat unreadable and uncomfortable for both the viewers and streamers. twitch culture is also important and chats a forefront of that. but i agree it’s great that the crafters opened twitch to a bigger and definitely more diverse audience! both chatters and streamers :)

hi anon about the angels & guides. i won’t lie getting into the law has made me feel a bit upset about the whole ordeal with me creating everything including angels. i am spiritual too so that’s why. after reading that one anon, i guess i did feel a little bit invalidated in my beliefs. sometimes i feel forced that i can’t believe in such. when i say guides & angels. it’s something i am very connected to. i didn’t mean to make anyone else feel like they had to believe in them lol. i know not many people do in loa now. but there are specific reasons why i am connected. i don’t mean they guide me in a sense of separation, i feel they guide me as much as my divine self does. i don’t see it as something separate from me. i see it as something that understands me. i mean if we can believe & know our “godself” exists, then we can also believe there’s something with us. i think people think guides & spirituality is something that means separate. but it all has the same meaning of coming back to ourselves & fulfilling ourselves this life. i love loa, but sometimes i feel so forced in the community that i have to give up certain things & it can get frustrating. i’m still kinda new to this myself. i was speaking on my specific journey, & i won’t lie lately my times haven’t been well at all. i do love seeing everyone’s ideas. but there’s this feeling of unsafe & i get scared to share what i believe cuz like that one anon, who said the things about separation. angels & guides isn’t separate from source. imo personally. there higher , but it doesn’t exclude my power. i see it as just extra protection & love i suppose. idk why i’m explaining what i meant lol, i think i got a bit upset at that anon. lately i’ve been feeling very down about all of this. belief wise. i guess i don’t believe that i am the only one. like i am powerful, but who in power doesn’t like having sidekicks & help is how i see it

If you take anything away from my reply, I truly hope that you start practicing validating yourself and building confidence in yourself. I think everyone should be allowed to discuss their opinions, without it being threatening to your own beliefs. I mean, if it's your actual belief, why do you need someone to make you feel validated? It's actually funny how subtle this kind of thing is. You know, the biggest thing the law calls for us to do is learn how to validate ourselves? So when you ignore that very important step, of course you're going to feel like this process is difficult.

Of course, if you are refusing to at least have faith in yourself, you're going to continue on this rather rocky path. I also think you're misunderstanding the law, because the law isn't separate from spirituality. It's not either or. The only thing about the law is that it does specifically say to stop placing your power in higher sources, outside of yourself. And in a way, this is what you're doing, even though you're saying you're not. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be easily swayed by the opinion of another. If it wasn't, you wouldn't need the validation from others to feel secure in your own beliefs. If you want to believe in Angels and all that stuff, then okay. Have confidence and faith in them then. If it makes you feel good, then good. There's literally nothing wrong with where you are at on your journey. It's perfect for you.

To me, it just seems like you're in a conflicting space. The law calls for you to essentially forget your old way of living, but you don't quite want to do that. And so yeah, that can be frustrating. You're essentially battling against two different worlds. And I see how that can bother you because in this community, a lot of people do practice being the operant power of their reality. But like... what does that have to do with you? I hope you see what I'm saying here. It doesn't matter if the whole community believes one thing. You're still in control of your own beliefs. You still get to decide for yourself. For example, the whole community heavily believed in using affirmations and I simply have not liked affirmations for a long time now. Instead of feeling bad about myself or feeling like I'm doing something wrong, I embraced my own approach to the law because I am the only one who needs to validate me. I practice having confidence in myself, because I know my inner world is the most important part in everything.

If your angels and guides bring you extra love and protection, then why are you afraid to stand confidently in your beliefs? Of course, I understand this is a process. But if your beliefs are empowering you, then why continue to hide behind fear? The more you focus on that love and protection, the more that's going to be your experience in the outer world. Tap into that love and protection more often, because if that's what you believe then that's the only thing that is true. I say on my blog a lot how we must practice knowing how our fears are not true, because love is the only thing that is real.

Make love the priority for yourself, rather than continuing to put fear at the forefront. There's nothing wrong with you believe in but there's also nothing wrong with someone not agreeing with you. That doesn't mean your beliefs are automatically invalidated, because you're literally the only one who can validate or invalidate yourself. So practice validating yourself more often and actually building confidence in yourself. You're not going to find the validation you're seeking by looking outside of yourself for it. The validation you're seeking is already within you. If you continue to fall for that trap of needing outer validation, then yes, things will feel more difficult. I know we have all been there on our own journeys, and it's something we have to actively choose to remember to do.

Just remember that if something truly feels right to you, then it's right for you. You don't need anyone else to confirm that. You confirm it on your own. I know you're not the only one in the community who still believes in those types of things you believe in, however, you're still going to have to be the one who validates your own beliefs. If anything ever makes you feel resistant, it shows where you need to surrender the most.

I truly hope that you are able to build that confidence within yourself and validate who you are, because you deserve to live a life that's true to you. 💖

As an ancom ~pan leftist~ or whatever with strong tankie sympathies, I get salty when white westerners harp on China & DPRK-- I've never been to either of those places, don't speak the languages to parse sources on my own (bc all the USA does is eat hot chip, commit atrocities, & lie, and all the info I've ever had about them was given to me from that heavily-manipulated lense), and even if the most eeeevil stories are true, what the fuck am I gonna do about it as an American (a country with way more blood on its hands)? Oh yeah NOTHING, so personally I find it distasteful to waste oxygen by being a useful idiot for stoking anti-asian and anti-communist fear mongering when I could use that energy for issues within my own country/community. BUT I also get salty when those countries are completely ball-washed by the extreme tankie types (like, stop pretending that any modern day state is without significant flaws, ya weirdos!!! Just bc the boots are red, that doesn't make them better for licking!!! Tbh I don't even consider these kinds of ppl tankies, they are more nazbol-adjacent imo), and the most recent point that has me reeeeeeeeally annoyed with those kinds of MLs is the Miami building collapse. People fucking died, and are still fucking missing, but last night the first comments on the tragedy that several MLs I follow on twitter (I have a 2nd account specifically for my uh more hot political commie takes that might scare the normies from my regular account lol) made were "SEEEE, this is why America sucks (which is true), DPRK 5ever baby!" And like.... could you at least wait 24 hours before glibly talking over the deaths to make a very lackluster political point? It's not a good look, comrade, and we need to be better than that. This brings me to another tangent of frustration I have with many leftists-- of violence fetishization-- but that is a novel-length post for another time lmao

Anyway, my heart goes out to the families and communities in Miami of those who are dead and/or missing. I'm so sorry that politicians ignore our crumbling infrastructure & housing crisis for the sake of profit, and you have paid the price with blood. Yes let's call out the villains, and let's never stop calling them out, but we must keep the victims at the forefront of the conversation. Jeez louise, I shouldn't have to explain this to so-called "disciplined" communists... okay rant done :)

“breakdowns, obscenities, it’s all i wanna be”

Do you have any bad habits you aren’t working on changing? If so, do you ever think you’ll try to break them? Downloading music, for one. I really should just start using Spotify... but my iPod has over 1k songs on it and I just seriously don't want to got through all the trouble. When was the last time someone surprised you with their reaction or behaviors? Hm. I dunno. What kinds of videos do you like to watch on YouTube, if any? I watch SO many different kinds. It used to be pretty strictly let's plays, but I've definitely expanded my watching interests. Now I'm really into watching educational reptile and tarantula husbandry and keeping channels, I watch one woman who is like my weight loss idol (Jordan Shrinks, she is amazing), there's a few vloggers, I enjoy some World of Warcraft channels, and then there's a couple urban exploration guys I like. I also occasionally watch some beauty YouTubers just for their personalities and the art of it. Have you ever reached out to a crisis center for mental health support? If so, how was the experience? Yes, but they were so busy that I didn't connect with anyone before I finally gave up and ODed. When was the last time you did something you were afraid to do, and how was the outcome? Ummmm I don't really know. What is one positive thing you believe about yourself? I care a lot about other people. What is something you have been through that has made you stronger? The breakup. It brought me to the lowest of lows, where every day was a struggle to survive. It taught me I can endure through almost anything, even if it doesn't feel like I can. Other than money, what is something you wish you had more of in your life? Happiness, contentment, being in love, motivation, energy, activities, travel... There's genuinely a lot. IIs there anything that you tend to ignore for the sake of your sanity? I'm very bad at ignoring things. If something is bothering me, it's going to put up a beastly fight to be at the forefront of my mind. What is something you wish was different about your family? I wish we were closer and better off monetarily. What keeps you going lately? The hope for a happy, satisfactory future. Have you ever been in an unconventional relationship (long distance, polyamorous, same gender, age gap, etc)? if so, what challenges did this relationship present, and were they worth overcoming? I've been in a long-distance relationship with another girl. I think the hardest part was that there was not being able to physically be there for each other when one of us was really struggling, and sometimes communication was an issue, not being able to read body language when we voice chatted or hear the tone in which we "spoke" when texting, though I'm pretty sure that's an issue with any online relations. I also feel it's difficult to really build and experience your chemistry with one another when you're not physically with the other person. I still think all these challenges were worth overcoming, though. I in no way regret the relationship and got only good things out of it. What is the most unhealthy relationship (whether friendship or romantic) you’ve ever had? What made it so unhealthy? Do you still talk to each other? I'm kinda torn between Jason and Colleen, but I think my bond with Jason was ultimately more unhealthy because it went beyond love: he was an obsession. Having him with me was the only thing that brought me joy, and I lit-er-a-lly could not imagine my future without him. Like that concept just didn't exist; it was entirely impossible in my head. On his end, he failed to communicate what he was going through emotionally, which only contributed to the damage. I never knew he was struggling because of me. Without realizing it, I put so much pressure on him to make me happy, so to answer the last question, no, we don't, by his decision - and I don't blame him. Have you ever been abusive in any way? Were you able to change or make amends, or, in general, what do you think people should do to make amends in that situation? A neverending battle I have with myself is if how I treated Jason after the breakup was qualifiable as emotional abuse, specifically with messaging him things like "thanks for sending me to the ER" and shit. My therapist reassures me that it wasn't abusive because I wasn't being deliberately manipulative, but rather genuinely hurt and convinced I had been wronged and wanted him to know and acknowledge it. She agrees that it was wrong, which I entirely agree with, but sometimes, I'm still convinced I was abusive. I fucking hate answering this question, so hurrying up: I don't know if he's forgiven me. As for how others could reconcile, that's not for me to say. I know sometimes the answer is to NOT make amends and completely stay away from their abuser. It's not my right to tell others how to cope with their abuse. Have you ever forgiven someone for being abusive or allowed someone toxic back into your life? Did this person change for the better or not? My former best friend Colleen was toxic as all fuck hell, and I let her back in way too many times. No, she never changed. I honesty doubt she ever will, given her pride. When was the last time you did something “meant” for children? Do you think it’s okay for adults to do these things (ie. watch cartoons, have stuffed animals, dress in cute clothing, etc), or do you think there’s an age beyond which it becomes unacceptable - and if so, why? Hmmm... I know this was semi-recent, but whatever it was is evading me at the moment. I personally have zero issue with adults engaging in activities like that; let people do what they enjoy if they're not harming anyone, especially things as innocent as dressing how they think is cute, etc. I would far rather people "act like children" (not emotionally, you know what I mean) than run around the streets selling drugs and shit. What was the last thing to “trigger” you (as in, in a true mental health sense, I’m being serious here) and how did you cope with it? What kinds of things do you tend to find triggering? What do you do either avoid or face your triggers? When I was riding to the sleep study section of the health plaza, where the hospital is, my anxiety spiked quite a bit, recalling all of my ER stays for being suicidal. It didn't help that the psych hospital I visited most is also in that whole jumble of buildings. I dealt with it by reminding myself I was in that area for a very different reason, and Mom reassured me that where I would be staying was more like a small hotel room than a hospital bed, which was true, so that helped. Regarding the next question, I'm not gonna lie to ya, I have a stupid amount of PTSD triggers: certain music, shows, fandoms, places, smells, even tastes of certain foods. I tend to stay away from my major triggers, but I'll *sometimes* fight the tiny ones, because I want that sense of ownership of myself back. If you’re diagnosed with anything, do you feel that it accurately represents what you’re experiencing? Yes. What are some minor physical discomforts that really bug you (eyelash in your eye, a wedgie, rumpled socks, etc)? I'm VERY sensitive to feeling anything in my nose, and it leads to me needing to blow it a lot. I also can't stand having holes in my socks, but since I wear flip flops essentially everywhere, I don't experience this much. Are you ever afraid to admit to liking something because you’re afraid other people will judge you for it? What is the worst that’s ever happened as a result of you liking something different from the crowd? What about the best thing that’s come as a result of a unique interest? Y E P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing really bad has happened because of admitting my interests, other than hearing things along the lines of "I don't get it." It's very odd, just how horribly receptive I am to judgment about things I like when I don't recall a time where I was ridiculed for anything. But anyway, the best thing to happen from sharing interests for me is making a new friend that likes the same thing, and I will IMMEDIATELY be closer to you than most people I associate with once you've helped me past that vulnerable spot of mine. Do you ever call yourself those things? I'm mentally ill and empathize heavily with those who suffer themselves. I absolutely do not have a negative look on mental health sufferers; we don't choose to be victims. I'm definitely not a big fan of abusing terms like "insane," because I've fucking been there, and it's not a term to take lightly. I've thrown 'em around before, but I try to avoid it. I don't call myself any of those things nowadays, but in the deepest trench of my depression and PTSD, I honest to God think I fit the definition of "insane." Does it bother you to have people comment on what you’re eating, or do you not care? What are some comments that would bother you, if any? Do you ever comment on what other people are eating or make assumptions about their intakes? YES. JUST DON'T FUCKING COMMENT. I get EXTREMELY self-conscious when my mom does this sometimes when I occasionally need a small snack to hold me out overnight, and I absolutely never will say something to someone else. It's just rude, imo. Well, I guess if someone was really destroying their health and I was close to them, I would out of concern and be very gentle, but when regarding most people? I'm keeping my thoughts to my damn self. Do you like Redbull? I've never tried it and don't want to. I'm not an energy drink fan. Who is the last person you spent money on? My mom. I have to remind myself frequently that I love his memory, not him, because I don't even know him anymore. It's been YEARS since we spoke. Just like I've changed incredibly, I'm sure he has, too. If you saw life in black & white, would that be okay with you? I mean, it would suck, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. When you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, what kinds of things are you likely to do? How often do you find you have trouble sleeping? I do exactly what you shouldn't do and get back on the laptop. I'd say I most often get on WoW and refresh the auctions I have up because that tends to tire me out because I do that shit manually to avoid any addon mishaps, and I have a looooot to put up as a gold farmer. What was the last lengthy packet you filled out? Something to see if I qualified for a sleep study. Are you a patient person? What is one way you have a lot of patience? What about not very much patience at all? I am NOT patient, at least regarding more trivial things, like sitting in waiting rooms. I do have patience though with other people with more serious things, like getting someone to open up to me. At what time during the day do you tend to feel your best? What about the worst? When I first wake up. It's a "fresh start" and it's nice to feel rested. Plus, I open a fresh can of cold soda as my "coffee" for lack of better word, haha. I'm in my worst mood probably late afternoon/early evening, by which time I am incredibly bored and just dulled down. What was the last thing you did that you wish you could take back or do differently? The last thing... I dunno. How frequently do you stay overnight somewhere that isn’t your own home? What things do you miss about home when you’re away? Do you tend to get homesick easily? Pretty much never. I do miss my room and its privacy when I'm away from home, but I wouldn't say I get homesick all that easily, so long as I have WiFi, haha. Do you tend to eat more in the beginning of the day or at night? Do you have a tendency to snack when you’re bored? If so, what kinds of snacks do you normally go for? Not necessarily the beginning of the day, but definitely more than at night. I am BAD about snacking when I'm extremely bored, but at the very least I'm conscious enough to try and find something semi-healthy, like granola bars, fruits, a scoop of peanut butter, but I also sometimes just eat like... a slice of bread or a tortilla. Horrible choice. I'm a carb fiend and I hate it. If you have any dietary restrictions, do you ever miss foods you can’t have? If not, what’s something you haven’t had for a long time that you wish you could eat again? I thankfully don't have any. I've been craving cheesecake like a madman lately. :< The spicy shrimp fritas from Olive Garden, too. Is there something you still can’t do even though you’re an adult or might be expected to do this thing? I don't have my license, and my driver's permit is even expired. I'm terrified of driving. I also don't have a job, and I can't cook. When was the last time you congratulated someone? Were you happy for them, indifferent, jealous? Uhhh I think someone on Facebook had a baby. Of course I was happy for them. What was the last milestone you reached in your life (graduating, buying a car, starting a family, etc)? What milestone are you going for next, if any? Um... I haven't reached a true milestone in years. Hell, I don't think since I started recovery from the breakup. Do you enjoy getting comments or messages? How likely are you to leave comments or messages for other people? Yeah, it makes me feel cared about. It really depends on the platform on how much I leave other people comments, and I'm extremely shy about messaging, but I'll do it sometimes. When are you most likely to scream (either out of fright, anger, or whatever)? Do you scream or yell often? When was the last time someone screamed at you (or in your presence)? Frustration, for sure. I've screamed into a pillow more than once. I definitely don't yell or especially scream often. I'm sure the last person to yell at me was Mom, but I don't remember about what. What would you say is your STRONGEST emotion? Maybe not the most frequent, but the most intense? And what emotion do you feel most weakly, even if you might feel it more often? I'd saaaay... maybe love. When I love something/someone, I love HARD. I think I experience joy the weakest; it's very muted for me. And lastly, what are you listening to? An incomplete list of helpful things mainstream BLM discussion is putting to the forefront

and why we should KEEP it mainstream until change finally comes!

(I promise not to get traumatic with the material)

The countless other cases beyond George Floyd of previously-unrecognized fallen black friends whose police murderers have yet to be accounted for.

The negative consequences of “All Lives Matter” and similar derivatives.

The negative consequences of silence, complicity, obstruction, and performative activism with no calls to action.

The widespread desire for not just the inoffensive and ineffective incremental reform, but the absolute abolishment of police/justice systems as they stand.

Every single time the police make a “wholesome” or “in-solidarity” gesture to go viral, they immediately lie and open fire on protestors unprovoked once the cameras turn off.

Every single time the govt/police outright lie in easily disprovable ways, from the NYPD claiming a Rolex store was looted by protestors to Trump denying any use of tear/CS gas.

The countless times the police have attacked and seized peaceful protestors completely unprovoked, with increasing ferocity, fraudulence, illegality -- and most importantly -- scorn and contempt from the public.

The countless times protestors and observers have remained peaceful, constitutional, and caring of their fellow man as TV news characterized them as riots while hyperfocusing on looters.

Methods to keep protestors safe, from the rights to protect themselves, to the communal knowledge of “don’t show protestor faces on social media”, to the weapons the police are using and how to deal with them before they’re deployed. (this is really important imo!!!!)

The countless instances of protestors still caring more about public health during the COVID-19 pandemic while beaches, casinos, and other high-traffic areas are so impatient to restimulate the economy that nobody there even wears face masks.

The widespread reputation of “All cops are bastards”, in part due to the increased knowledge of the “good cops” who challenge systemic racism and brutality end up fired, abused, and/or killed by their former kin.

Debunking of widespread misconceptions and misinformation, from the campaign to raise Derek Chauvin’s charges (we can’t prove it was premeditated, let alone in court procedure) and the DC Blackout (sourced to a troll account with 3 followers), to safety concerns like fake “protests” (baits for lynching) and various ineffective safety measures against police during protests.

Ways to game and overwhelm social media systems into shutting down the spread and visibility of hate movements (thanks, Kpop stans! Stan Loona!)

The practically-nonexistent and lackadaisical regulations police are held to, from pathetically tiny training periods to their ability to stay on the force despite multiple severe transgressions they are presently NOT obligated to tell the public.

The absurdly disproportionate allocation of major city funds towards the police for a perception of crime only caused by a lack of funds towards constructive services like jobs, physical and mental healthcare, education, livable wages, food security, etc.

The amount of oppressive bills govts are trying to sneakily pass while everyone’s “distracted” to hope nobody notices.

The countless small businesses (especially black-owned) neglected by the govt and left unable to participate without outsider funding in the oh-so-precious economy it scrambled to revitalize.

Resources and charitable movements to help those within the black community in need.

The power of community bail funds and their ability to power many illegitimately-arrested through legal processes with highly-maximized and recyclable charity cash.

The endless list of incredibly talented black individuals with bright potential careers in the arts, sciences, humanities, etc. but were lost solely due to racial discrimination, and yet continue to fight for their right to work anyway.

Increased movement towards building allies through empathy with understanding of mental health over callous and antagonistic threats of ostracism.

Increased prevalence of introducing anti-racism to children and respecting their ability to think.

The knowledge that just because George Floyd’s killers were charged, that doesn’t mean black lives are completely saved, and that they should ALWAYS matter, not just today or tomorrow. There’s still so much work to be done.

The countless news showing how much the protests are working, and how much progress we are making as a movement and as a people. At our current pace, as long as our demands remain loud and visible, we should be expecting change soon.

Thank you for bringing these to the light, everyone! If we keep talking, we can keep up with, if not outpace whatever the opposition throws at us!

The more we stay informed, the more we can endure, and the more the police/govts will continue making themselves look like failures that will have no choice but to change for the better.

i. i am not your mother’s/father’s yu.ffie blog. while i do have a verse reserved for compilation content, that’s not the main premise of this blog. if you came here for oversexualized underage ninjas.... i’m going to have to direct you elsewhere. out here we’re primarily an adult modern interpretation... who does not daylight as a ninja constantly. she can, however, be a y.akuza or a sheltered member of high society who enjoys kicking ass for justice so if you’re interested in that, y’know. c’mon down.

ii. the typical ‘ yu.ffie is a kleptomaniac ’ / ‘ stop stealing my stuff ’ trope is like. one that grates my very existence. i have talked about this many times, but for those of you who are new: yufi has only stolen out of necessity to her cause. the only time i’ll refer to petty theft on this blog is if she like steals a fry or something. if we’re joking around, okay, but... please don’t consider that to be the sole core of her characterization. i’m begging. i’m on my knees. i’m warning you, i’ll cry and then i’ll probably ignore whatever post you’ve mentioned it in if you’re serious. just. don’t be that person if you’re following me.

if we’re going into it, the only times she’s stolen anything were: > in crisis core, as the ‘ treasure princess. ’ but this is arguable, as the treasure is truly up for grabs to start with & zack repeatedly goes after these locations she’s sent to him ( which, by the way, were sent to her from rufus to attempt to retaliate against + destroy shinra hq ). zack already knew what was up when: 1) she showed up in his spam folder; 2) she literally said she’s on the hunt for treasure; and 3) he knew at least after the second time that he was gon’ get goinked ( please see definition #2 ) so... can’t help him there. > in vanilla vii, when the party is foolish enough to meet her and not recruit her off the bat ( it be ya own self ). to be fair, 99% of her interactions with easterners / non-wutai prior to that moment had been people who either wanted to kill her or exploit her, so... it’s only self-preservation to use them before they use her or worse, leave her for dead. a sad reality for a 16 year old. > in vanilla vii, only after the party arrives to wutai & she thinks she can successfully finish her mission of “ getting all the strongest materia. ” after she’s captured, she does apologize, and then afterward makes cloud sign it in writing. so. y’know, she did learn from her mistake & said “ ugh, guess i gotta put that diplomacy training to use. ”

y’all could argue that she’s a thief class and that’s what they do, but note that it’s NOT one of her core skills-- it’s a MATERIA. which means everyone out there with a steal materia could be out here being a kleptomaniac. cloud? barret? tifa? red xiii? none of your favs are safe. her skills in the game, however, are shit called “ blood festival ” ( oh? see the username’s relevance all of a sudden? aha! ) and “ doom of the living. ” she’s out here summoning ghosts and reigning otherworldly power on ur ass but... fandom wasn’t ready for that conversation !! some folks were too BASIC and couldn’t handle her true strength... so i will gladly champion that for you.

iii. i like to emphasize that yufi is an emotionally strong yet traumatized figure, which stems from her origins and that i just put that in the forefront. we have a character who is haunted by her mother who died after childbirth, seemingly rejected from her father yet held to the highest of his standards, has attachment issues because she’s the “ black sheep ” and doesn’t just accept defeat or dejection even if it comes from her core community, survived multiple wars, has led in post-war rescue efforts on multiple occasions, was wrongfully imprisoned, was on the forefront of pandemic outbreaks as a first-responder, joins and rises to the top of an organization created to restore world order, is one of the two top operatives in said organization ( and the one out on the field longer--sorry vin.cent, but u only got involved at lu.cretia and when the actual gunshots disturbed your brooding and wine session filled isolation sessions. but like, mood tho ), pretends to be cheery despite clearly remembering all the hauntings and death and other bullshit she’s been facing since she was a toddler.... oh, and she disarmed bombs when her country was wrongfully targeted + used as political bait for terrorists...when she was a child. that’s canon, if we’re talking about “ accuracy. ” even in vanilla vii, she had no outlets, no one to turn to, ‘cause everyone was cloud vc: “ not interested. ”

so if you’re on this blog, it’s not like you won’t see happy yufi... but realize that i recognize that she is multifaceted and has a lot of baggage. emotional issues which unfortunately i bring to every verse gfdohfofh but u know, it’s core to her character + y’all gon have to deal, or... idk, go find another yufi. i’m not forcing you to be here.

iv. in my opinion, the best plotting comes with ooc conversations/interactions. i’m not saying if we plot that we’re required to be friends, ‘cause i don’t wanna force anyone into friendship, but i truly believe that if you want super deep plots with frequent interactions, we should... probably talk more than once. pretty simple, imo ! sometimes people claim i play favorites, but i really don’t... if you never talk to me and you don’t respond to my attempts to interact, then how am i supposed to know you’re interested?

as a general rule, i’ll put in as much effort as i receive. if i see you’re interested in me, if we’re really vibing when it comes to plotting, if you’re sending asks & liking posts, we’ve got some threads going, rad ! if i like starter calls and send you asks and message you and you never respond to me... ? i’ll take that as a sign you don’t wanna talk + i should move on to someone else. if i’m wrong, well... do something to change my mind.

v. i know i went hard as fuck on this meme, but that’s bc I’M REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT ABOUT THIS MUSE. in reality i’m actually quite soft + a weenie babie. if you ask.......... most people, i think they’d say i try really hard to be approachable and adaptable. i think everyone who talks to me on discord laughs at me because i’m scared of the stupidest things + i love to make jokes and just be funny and relatable. so please be nice and love me and my sassy fighty extremely tough deprived child. we both need hugs.

Milestone Thank You Post

So I hit a pretty significant milestone the other day, I wasn’t gonna make one of these but I haven’t in the past and I think it’s important to thank those who’ve made my time on Tumblr so wonderful.

It’s been a helluva 2.5 years and while I haven’t been the most productive of contributors, I wanna thank all those followers who stuck with me nonetheless, and if you joined me further down the road, thank you to you, too. I hope you’ll all enjoy what I’ve got planned this year. I want to thank you for more than merely supporting my reading, though. LARA FINALLY WRITES UP A DETAILED LOOK INTO THE ORACLE SPECIES OKAY THIS IS GONNA BE LONG AS BALLS

so, i concocted the oracle a while back bc i was like hmmmmm dragon age need Moar DRAGONS, and ive always loved the idea of the old gods / / god figures in dragon age in general weoooeooooo so heres a lowdown throwdown. most will be under a read more.

AN ‘ORACLE’ IS WHAT IS BORN WHEN THE RESURRECTED SOUL OF AN OLD GOD IS FORCIBLY TRAPPED INSIDE AND MERGED WITH THE BODY OF A MORTAL CHILD.

‘’ oracle ‘’ : a priest or priestess acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods in classical antiquity. a person with great wisdom or someone believed to have communication with a deity.

this is dark magic. dark magic. dark. forbidden shit. this is the kind of shit that could accidentally tear a hole in the fucking fade and just straight up absorb the world. i really wanna stress that this isn’t ............ a common thing. this is a scary night time story. this is legend. there have been speculated multiples other oracles: confirmed three. aurelio is one of them.

( ok so heres my overview on old gods: ancient, powerful ass, fucking dragonic deities. i see them as opportunistic, powerful and highly intelligent vultures. i see them as entities who went mad with power ie dumat and broke apart from one another. i see them as having consciousness, differing personalities, goals, et cetera. im really interested in them ok. just some context cause obvs imma be talkin about em a lot teehee )

THE RITUAL

its said that ‘’the mind’’ of the old god will always wander the fade, even after its death. with a certain degree of skill, blood magic, sacrifice, forbidden fucking horrendeously taboo magick, and boom ---- you can find it. free it, chain it up again. the old god consciousness is essentially forced to possess the unwilling mortal host. i won’t go into the details because it’s icky and gory and sad, but they essentially merge two kicking and screaming parties together --- it takes several days, is white hot agony the entire time, and is incredibly traumatising. most don’t survive, or are merely possessed by a demon in that weakened state.

THE ABILITIES

oracles are called oracles because they are seen to be that: conduits of gods, which is essentially what they are. limited by physical form as they are, they are still immensely powerful.

from a young age, they are unnaturally intelligent. these children now have the mind of an ancient deity coexisting inside their own, new, developing mind. due to this a lot of oracles struggle with emotional development. aurelio was considered a boy genius, which made his father very proud, in his vapid, abusive way.

they have an unsettling grip on fade manipulation. old gods originated from the fade, and are masters of it. oracles can force their way into someones dreams and alter the fade to fit their needs, can kill people in the fade but also kill them physically through this, can even blur ‘reality’ with the fade realm through forced hallucinations, and much more.

in my meta, the blood magic that is known and used majority through tevinter and thedas came from old god dumat. the old gods imo were the first big figures to really bring blood magic to the forefront in that way and therefore oracles are natural wielders of it, and seem to understand it better than most. oracles are an exception however in that their own blood is far more powerful than the blood of others. they do blood sacrifices sometimes ... as a treat ... and having such potent ichor makes them targets for other blood mages who may try and trap them and leech from them in this way.

due to their ties to the fade, oracles are unmatched magic wielders, and though they are often physically weaker they are a fearsome enemy in the field due to their grasp of and proficency in magic.

absurdly high pain tolerance and advanced healing capabilities.

THE WEAKNESSES

oracles can only die if their ‘master’, one bound to them during the ritual, wills it. of course, if they die, they’re essentially immortal. other old gods and numen-like beings can kill them if they overpower them, but it would be after a mighty fight. they do however, have weakness.

due to the burden of an ancient soul, and essentially existing .. and being kept alive entirely by forbidden magic, oracles suffer physically. varies from chronic pain, migraines, ‘the change’ (where the old god side may try and force themselves through physically) or known by other terms, and being generally easy to overpower physically.

oracles also become extremely tired easier, and need more rest. they also appear to consume more food, and have higher tolerance to alcohol.. which may be seen as a good thing.

oracles can in exceptional circumstances be ‘separated’, meaning that their fade self and physical self will split. this will leave the physical self a shell, barely alive, and the fade self lost without them. though they can be reunited.

I finished Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would..so I tried to make the main cast into FEH units...explanations under the cut.

Itsuki Aoi - Everyman

Type - Sword Infantry

BST - 163

Stats - HP (43) Attack (34) Speed (36) Defense (25) Resistance (25)

Weapon - Idol Falchion (Effective against dragon units, Inflicts -7 Attack to unit on enemy team with the highest Attack until their next action, Grants Def/Res +3 to adjacent allied units)

Assist - Rally Up Atk/Spd+ (Grants Attack/Speed +4 to target ally and all allies within two spaces of target, excluding unit, for one turn)

Special - Aether

A Skill - Fury 3

B Skill - Chill Speed

C Skill - N/A

Explanation: Itsuki is an all-arounder type of unit. His stats look impressive, but that’s due to Fury’s +3 to all stats. Chill Attack in his weapon and Chill Speed as his skill give him a supportive niche...that I just realized Soren has with his tome. But whatever, Soren is a green mage and Lon’qu and Raven have the same refine so just let me have this. Rally Up Atk/Spd is something that i see coming since Ophelia brought the first Rally Up skill and it took a little bit for dual rallies to come out. Most of the Falchion users have some support based bonus granted by their sword so I made Itsuki’s help out allies instead of himself since in TMS he is usually helping instead being on the forefront. (Story-wise, gameplay wise he is force deployed whether you want him or not lmaoo) He doesn’t have his own show or song, but he’s always helping his friends with their show business jobs.

Tsubasa Oribe - Dreamer

Type - Flying Lance Singer

BST - 150

Stats - HP (32) Attack (31) Speed (37) Defense (24) Resistance (26)

Weapon - Ethereal Feather (If Sing is used on an allied unit grants unit another action and heals unit 10 HP)

Assist - Sing

Special - N/A

A Skill - HP/Atk 2

B Skill - Aerobatics 3

C Skill - Distant Guard 3

Explanation: So she could have just been a regular Peg Knight but since in TMS her main focus is becoming an idol I made her a singer/refresher. Her Weapon is supportive and not offensive because tbh...she doesn’t have the best offensive capabilities compared to Touma, the other lance user in TMS. He beats her in raw physical dmg, but she destroys him in the magic department, BUT Kiria takes the cake for best magic user so Tsubasa is best used as a support healer with some offensive moves thrown in. Distant Guard helps give her teammates some extra def/res and Aerobatics help her get to her teammates, but Wings of Mercy is easily another skill that could be there. IS hasn’t actually given a dancer/singer WoM so I figured it was just taboo for them and I was ‘trying’ to go for realism.

Explanation: Touma is best boy. Ok, but he is my favorite of the cast and his whole journey as a character is him trying to become a hero people look up to. So I wanted his kit to represent that. His weapon has Heavy Blade built into it since he is pretty slow and he needs the extra cooldown reductions. He has Atk/Def solo to represent his want of being a hero on his own and he has Shove to get a nearby ally away from him so he can take advantage of his skill. Quick Riposte would have been his go-to B skill so I just gave it to him and it makes sense for the kit. TBH no one in this game is slow...besides Mamori so I put him in the high attack/def, low speed category since I didn’t want all the builds to look the same?

Kiria Kurono - Poker Face

Explanation: Kiria is another one of my favorite characters, her cool demeanor and hidden love for cute things is fun. (Plus her aesthetic is on point) She is the resident magic nuke of the bunch, and even though I gave her lower BST than regular mages I tried to represent that as well. Kind of anyways, she is already an established idol by the begining of the game so I made her a refresher. I wanted her to be supportive since a refresher’s job is to help teammates and give extra turns, but I also tried to make her a threat. Her weapon Sharur grants an adjacent ally, and Kiria herself, +3 Atk/Spd. The buff coupled with Spd Ploy gives her a decent offensive presence if needed. Chill Res is to help her and any other mages on her team, and Spd Ploy is just helpful all around.

Eleonora Yumizuru - Rising Star

Explanation: So Eleonora grew on me since at first she seemed supper arrogant, but through her side missions and with her appearances in other side stories she shows a lot of character that would be missed otherwise. She’s like the groups big sister, and ironically she’s younger than most of the cast, but like Yashiro and Kiria she’s been in the entertainment industry longer than Itsuki, Tsubasa, Touma, and Mamori so she has the knowledge. So in TMS she has quite a few moves that inflict status effects like Charm, Poison, etc. I tried representing that in her weapon which acts like the healer stave Candlelight+. Blazing Thunder is because her affinity is electric imo since she learns more electric attacks than any other magic element. That’s also my reasoning for making her a blue archer since thunder mages are usually represented in FEH as blue. Windsweep is to apply the Candlelight debuff safely on physical units with DC, and Mirror Strike is to even out her defenses if she were to initiate on a Dragon unit or mage.

Mamori Minamoto - Microwave Idol

Explanation: So Mamori is the newest mirage master and she’s the most supportive of all of them. She literally protects her friends from attacks and takes them herself. So I tried to make her supportive in a defensive way. Her weapon Holy Axe gives her more Res and is basically Drive Def/Res for any allies within two spaces. Pavise hearkens to her Radiant Skill that reduces dmg taken when she protects an ally. Vengeful Fighter is just disgustingly good and she’s an armor who isn’t fast enough for Special Fighter and since she has the stats for defense instead of offense I chose VF. Close Guard is also supposed to be a callback to her protecting skills.

Something to note is that the cast is sort of split into singers and actors. All the characters cross into the other form of entertainment at some point in the game, and Mamori is more focused on becoming a singer over becoming an actor or something. BUT an armored singer would be weird so I just didn’t make her one...

Yashiro Tsurugi - Cold Hearted

Explanation: Yashiro is a good representation for the ‘enemy becomes an ally’ trope. I feel like that’s a spoiler but it’s not like he does anything super important as an ‘enemy’ he’s just the typical angsty “I’m just measuring your abilities” guy for a while until he decides Itsuki and co are cool enough to hang with. MOST of the time I dislike those characters since if I was Itsuki I would have called bullshit and told him to screw off, but Yashiro has the best character growth throughout the game imo. He’s a myrmidon so high atk/spd and low defenses, but since I made him a Singer due to his established Idol status his defenses are...bad. His skills are offensive and defensive since I wanted him to be potent as a killer and decent as a support. His weapon is both supportive and offensive as well since it debuffs for either him or an ally to take out the enemy.

Tiki - Mirage Uta-loid

Type - Green Infantry Dragon

Explanation: So Tiki isn’t playable, but she does play a big part of the story and she’s well known in the FEH community so I made her into a unit as well. I keep saying the word supportive in these explanations but Tiki literally can’t help with anything offensive besides forging weapons for the main cast to use. So her Songstone grants the Uror/Skuld buffs, Wings of Mercy is taboo for a refresher to have by default but I don’t care, and then Guidance is to help ferry her team. In TMS Tiki exists as an Vocaloid like Hatsune Miku, but they call them Uta-loids(?) so she is also a refresher. This build was mostly for fun and had the least amount of thought put into it. :)

My Opinion on;

Character in general: Iris really spoke to my heart from the first moment, to be honest. I know she gets a lot of flack in fandom the majority of the time and I’ve just never been able to understand this. She doesn’t get enough screen time imo and she does a great way of showing a different side of the amicitia family. Yeah, shes a girl, but she’s also Gladio’s kick ass little sister. She meshes so well with the boys and her fighting style is kickass. The first time i used her special move from the techbar I was like, heck yes you go girl!. I think from the little bits we see of her, they did a good job conveying her strength. She barely makes it out from a ruined insomnia, unsure of whether noctis or the others are still alive, and she stays strong. I love Iris.

How they play them: AMAZINGLY. I can hear her in everything you write. Her dialogue, the prose, her actions - it all falls seamlessly together to create a bigger picture and I have so much admiration and respect for that. Also, reading your headcanons for her are such a pleasure. You dig deeper and really bring the badass that she actually is to the forefront of the picture while rounding her out and reminding people that hey, she isn’t an annoying side character. I already had a great deal of respect for her character, but the few days I’ve been following your blog have given me tons more. I love your style so much that I’ve perused your blogs for older threads and the like just so that I can get more of it. I’m such a fan!

The Mun: Admittedly, we haven’t spoken yet - but I’d love to change that ! Your mood against fandom disrespect and ‘tropes’ is something I agree whole heartedly on and with that alone, I think we’d find enough to bond over. I would love to also get to hear more about your thoughts on Iris. I can never get enough of people who are passionate about their character and you are definitely that! I suck at out of character communication sometimes because I get easily distracted but I’d love to chat :)

I've been thinking and I don't know if it's just me but I really don't like how s/jm made part of rice's tragic backstory about how some of his people didn't like him because he was a "half breed" (fae/illyrian) but at the same time made him the whitest and most privileged character who could do whatever he wanted and be praised for it by literally everyone around him, idk it just rubs me the wrong way because that could have been an interesting topic to discuss within the book :/

YES, it’s not just you! Rice is at the forefront of all activism in the AC0TAR series and that’s so bad for so many reasons. Though he supposedly comes from an oppressed race, his characterization and interaction with other characters screams privilege. It’s really uncomfy how in AC0TAR the High Fae are positioned as the most privileged demographic in fae lands, but we get mostly HF perspectives. IMO, if you’re gonna use allegorical oppression in a fantasy, you need to have characters FROM the oppressed communities who are central to the plot. As usual, I’m gonna use an example from AS0IAF to write more on this point: this is why D/aenerys as a character fails for me. She comes into E/ssos with an outsider’s values, goals, and language, and tries to (sometimes violently) implement her views on societies she is not part of and does not understand. Those societies are really off-putting to readers (or at least to me) because we don’t have any POV understanding of the D.othraki, Q.artheen, or the slaver cities, and it’s also really cringey that these societies are all predominantly composed of POC. I get where Dany is coming from, she’s very smart, it’s clear that she has a youthful understanding of justice and leadership, and the narrative does recognize she’s in the wrong sometimes, but I just can’t get behind her. That said, Martin’s writing reflects a much deeper understanding of oppression, cultural bias, misogyny, and war than SJ/M’s does, so Dany is automatically a much better character than Rice or Faerug.

In the AC0TAR series, the fae have a really huge power imbalance over the humans, and they committed genocide/enslavement against them in the past. So why do we know NOTHING about human culture and society or wtf is even happening on their side of the wall? Why does every single human character either die or become a fae? We also have no idea how the High Fae came into power, or how lesser fae societies work, or even a day in the life of a lesser fae/non-noble High Fae. At least in AC0MAF we have some central I/llyrian characters but all we know about their culture is that they’re extremely sexist and violent and they come from the mountains. WTF??? Do we even have a named I/llyrian woman in the books? Not that I recall. And why would RICE of all people, incredibly rich, literally “the most powerful HL,” handsome, and a man, be the first and only character to think of implementing High Ladyship, let alone be a feminist? Faerug and her sisters come from a society ruled by six queens. M0r has been suffering for centuries for her gender and sexuality. I/llyrian women have been getting their wings cut. V/iviane has been in a loving, equal relationship with K/allias for quite a while. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: it’s awesome that men are depicted as helping the feminist movement, but it would be way more awesome to have someone who actually suffers from gender oppression (ie Faerug, M0r, V/iviane, literally any woman, or non-cishet man!!!!) to lead the movement. Interesting how everyone loves Rice for being “feminist,” (aka ordering everyone around and being abusive in the name of making Faerug a High Lady) but there are no women involved in this feminism unless approved by Rice. This feminism would be a lot less shallow if, like you said, it also examined his identity as an I/llyrian in a society that privileges High Fae, as well as the women, lesser fae, and humans who are oppressed.

Someone asked me what I suggest, and I have no suggestions. All I have are observations and thoughts and you’ll probably see why there are no immediate suggestions from me. So...

* I do think that female only spaces are needed to give resources to girls and women otherwise not offered because of institutional and cultural sexism that actively favors and benefits males; but, female only spaces will still have issues with racism, homophobia/lesbian appropriation and sexism to tackle and I do recognize this as an intra-community issue.

* I do think that female socialization has impacted the way females perceive and treat each other, how entitled females can be over other females, how we easily dismiss one another, how we don’t recognize the efforts and value of other females, etc. I do think there needs to be more addressing of the fact that both sexes are responsible for creating and reinforcing this dynamic.

*Lesbian only spaces are needed specifically because of the heteronormativity and homophobia of het and bi women - but the problem is that lesbian experience has been so politicized and scrutinized that women who aren’t lesbians enter these spaces and redefine lesbian experience to mirror heterosexual or opposite sex attracted experience and put their issues at the forefront, while lesbians are pushed out of these spaces and discussions, ostracize other lesbians, and/or leave because it doesn’t reflect their realities and experiences + lesbians who don’t call themselves lesbians are disconnected from a lesbian community and their absence makes lesbian existence seem even more minuscule, more obscure and that makes it easier to redefine lesbianism and lesbian experience.

*The idea that men should be killed off and heterosexual relationships should be “erased” is paranoia that is never going to be true or accurate of reality no matter what. The idea that women who are genuinely opposite sex attracted and/or heterosexual should refrain from relationships and building families with men is an idea originally created by straight and bi feminists, and should be recognized as that. Yet, it is constantly attributed to mostly lesbians [and lesbians who call themselves man hating, or lesbians who talk about male violence and male pattern behavior is something many people refer to as an example...the fact is that lesbians are not and have never been a threat to heterosexuality and opposite sex relations because society at large does not support female homosexuality + lesbians are not invested in heterosexuality more than we are of wanting normalization of homosexuality...can’t say the same for heterosexist culture that is invested in erasing and converting lesbians and the straight and bi men and women who ARE actual threats to lesbians] which straight and bi feminists are more than happy about so that they can use lesbians white knighting for them when they are confronted with angry men and women.

*Resources on female experience is still slacking when it comes to lesbians, so lesbian issues are underplayed and sometimes barely a topic if only mentioned in relation to patriarchy; which imo, contributes to the false idea that lesbians have “privilege” on the basis of not being in [or willingly being involved in] relationships with males. Lesbians being institutionalized and correctively raped in many countries is almost never talked about; heteronormative grooming and homophobic abuse from heterosexual nuclear family tradition is never talked about, for example. Lesbians who have never been with men are silenced and discouraged from talking about their experiences, and historical lesbians who have never been with men you’ll be hard-pressed to find as subjects because of the bias against them in feminism. Add on to that, feminism has become more obscure as it centers male rehabilitation and encourages females to be morally obligated to prioritize them rather than themselves, and this affects lesbians further since now lesbians are not only expected to prioritize het and bi female experience over our own, but now how in liberal circles lesbians are pressured to make our sexuality ::inclusive:: to males against our own natural sexuality.
