no but actually. the parallels to other Twins in different nations of teyvat in relation to the traveler and their desire to reunite with their own sibling makes me a little bit bonkers. like.
diluc and kaeya as what the traveler has and fears, after we will be reunited [separation born from conflict that seemingly cannot be mended; they both care for each other but ultimately their opposing ideals mean they cannot be at each other's side in the same way that they used to, and no longer have the close bond they once did]
ei and makoto as what the abyss sibling experienced [a crushing loss not just of one's twin but the last remaining friend they had and the safety and security of their nation, coming out the other side traumatized, cold and jaded and making decisions that will ultimately hurt the people they claim to want to protect for the sake of an unattainable goal]
and lyney and lynette as what the traveler and the abyss twin used to have before they were separated [never apart for long, home is wherever we are together], what the traveler wants [their separation brief and quickly amended, continuing to be inseparable after they reunite], and also the choice they'll have to make [the twins being together in an organization the traveler inherently doesn't trust - does the traveler want to be by their sibling's side badly enough to throw their lot in with the abyss, and turn their back on everyone else they've met on their journey so far?]

i guess it’s less that they Completely Understood each other and more that . just. they met each other at the perfect time . they had a bond that could never be replaced . they could be their true selves around each other, even if it only lasted for a year or two . but it still meant so much to the both of them !!! those two years alone meant so much more than the ten years they spent apart and that completely fucking Destroys me . they had something that neither one of them would ever find again and if it’s not Total Understanding then i truly believe it was unconditional love . soulmatism. the feeling of finding your other half . they had each other for two little years and it was the single most vibrant blue spring of their lives

reading "some people are just in it for the money and fame" to be about tai is great, actually. imagine him being a young man with big dreams, seeing stardom in his horizon, wanting to be as popular and as cool as possible (is actually a dork)... and somewhere along the way he learns that not only is he not finding any joy from that, he's finding it from the smaller things; his own team, his closest friends, the people he now considers his family, and the thought of a quiet life, settling down with someone on a nice, quaint island perfect for raising a family
and he takes one look at raven branwen, the weirdest fucking girl at beacon, and goes "yeah, that one".

the third prince is so interesting to me bc he's made of the themes. he subconsciously attempts to replicate his parents' power dynamic with his first (and only) real relationship except it's not even a real relationship bc his evil mistress is manipulating him the whole time. he looks like the physical ideal of warrior masculinity (you know. the one who died in the last book) except that he sucks and is useless and can't fulfill his singular purpose and literally everyone knows it. he's a hollow shell with nothing inside but also he's intelligent and perceptive and a whole person underneath it all but also it doesn't even matter who he is bc he's being slowly suffocated by other people's expectations and agendas but also he has no choice but to be nothing bc he can't be great. "what if you were willing to do anything to get what you wanted" well what if you didn't even know what you wanted. what if what you wanted was so completely opposed to who you are and what you were made for that you could never actually believe that you could have it. what then. he's happy about two people being tortured to death bc his mom didn't like them. he's the living embodiment of a crumbling heirless dynasty. he's a blushing maiden being seduced by an older man with ill intentions and he's a powerful royal whose lover is wholly reliant upon him for survival. he and baoxiang are both punishing each other for the things they hate about themselves. his death causes the end of the book. and he's been dead since the day he was born.
