Modern life just has...too much stuff to keep track of. Too many deadlines and logins and accounts and emails and messages on multiple different platforms and constant bombardment of information and I can tell my brain is really struggling to manage it all.

I bought a chonky little MP3 player and put all the digital music I currently have on there, which is still well under the 32 GB it can store on the device itself without expandable storage and am listening to it on shuffle now. I have a bunch of CDs I want to rip and put on there and I also need to edit the metadata on the files that are already on there, because almost everything is Unknown Artist and Unknown Album right now, but like. This is nice.

#I'm slowly trying to set myself up for a gentle transition to a feature phone or a *very* nerfed smart phone when this one finally dies #I've been carrying my ebook reader around and a notebook for jotting down anything I need to keep track of #I am kind of toying with the idea of buying a digital camera #but smartphones have kind of killed the market for affordable compact point and shoot cameras of a similar quality so idk #I think there are some fairly app-lite phones you can get that have support whatsapp and a maps app #so I probably do not need to start carrying paper maps around #although once I start driving I do want to get a satnav that is not just google maps and/or dependent on the internet

it's actually evil that you need to have a (newer) smartphone and an app to confirm the transaction every time you want to transfer money

for many, many reasons, but mostly because it's one more thing I need to keep figuring out for my mother and I don't want to!

#first I had to add her account to my app and deal with that for six months because her phone was too old for the app #then I gave her my phone when I got a new one (the fact that she needed one for that was a big factor in me buying a new one) #and had to set all of that up. #and now. she keeps having problems with it!! and she doesn't understand my instructions on the phone!! so I have to drive over there to fix #whatever she did #which right now only takes 30 minutes if I'm lucky (depends on how annoying she wants to be that day) #but once we move it'll be an hour of driving alone. plus the time I'll have to spend at her place. #so yeah I'm pissed off about it #the TAN generator things that you put your bank card in worked perfectly fine but noooo everyone has a smartphone right 🙄🙄🙄 #fucking hate that shit #especially since the tiny branch of her bank in her village closed a few years ago. so yeah either you have a smartphone and someone to help #you set that up and solve any issues. or you have a car to drive to the nearest bank and do it that way. #this sucks #personal

How to transfer your 2FA accounts on your authenticator app from your old phone to your shiny new phone:

Open the Authenticator app on your old phone.

Open the settings.

Select "transfer to another device" to generate a QR code which you can scan on your new phone and instantly transfer everything over.

Oh, that option isn't there.

Apparently this is an outdated version of the app.

Head to the Play store to update.

Update is not compatible with this device.

Ah, this phone is too old. Cool. Cool, cool, cool, cool.

Back to the settings menu.

Find the toggle that says "back up accounts to the cloud" and hit it.

This will open the Play store to download the LastPass app, and when you make an account on it, you can transfer your info there.

App is not compatible with this device.

Cry.

Disable 2FA on each of the dozen or so accounts you have across various services, re-enable it, and go through the tedious process of confirming each account via text messages and emails.

Actually, screw step 14. Just leave it on the old phone for now and deal with it later.
