You talk about when Mike got caught looking at Will in the desert. I talk about when he didn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is before Will started talking, he was just gesturing in reaction while Jonathan and Argyle were talking one on one. But I'm rewatching the scene thinking about Mike and there is a lot of time between the inciting moment of Argyle saying they're gonna kill El and the triple take at the end of this scene. He had a full soliloquy alone, that triple take was not an immediate reaction and I think we forget that. He had been sitting with himself in silence, tuning them out for 0:56 seconds before that triple take. He isn't listening to them. He's thinking. And while he's thinking, he looks over at Will 0:12 seconds before we see him do it up close.
As I say, he's surprised he got caught because he usually doesn't. He wasn't expecting Will to be looking at him because he wasn't when he tried 10 seconds prior.

I think it's important that
1) Mike "I feel like I lost you or something" Wheeler felt that way under non-life threatening circumstances for Will.
2) When Mike and Will are alone, it's intimate talks.
3) They never had to lie to be alone together
4) Lucas and Dustin actually understand that there are moments where Mike and Will need to be alone together
-Will's episode on Halloween
- the rain fight
-maybe even when Mike goes to find Will at the arcade
5) Mike rarely seems to own up to his actions and apologize properly, especially right away...unless it concerns Will.
6) Mike's concern for Will was paralleled with Joyce's in the first two seasons, and when the mind flayer made Will send those soldiers to die, Mike peices it together before she does.
7) Every season has a reference to the possibility of Mike losing Will. All of which show Mike fighting to make sure that doesn't happen
-using whoever and doing whatever he can to find Will, Willingly putting himself in danger in both normal and supernatural circumstances.
-staying by his side when when it could get him killed, especially going to a place that he knows is filled with scary people
-following Will when he storms off from the basement and biking through the rain to apologize
- Apologizing and carefully acknowledging Will's every whim from the argument the night before.

concept designs for the zombie apocalypse au i'm working on - pt. 1 (small au details under the cut regarding their designs)
--- mike's design
always wears his bomber jacket (normally decorated with pins) - was given to him by nancy when he was ten and he grew into it
signature weapon is a machete - likes its versatility + has terrible aim with guns: the only one he can kind of use is a shotgun, but he rarely uses it because the kickback fucks with his shoulder
will's design
always wears a long sleeve around his waist "just in case" (normally his military jacket or a flannel)
watch was given to him by jonathan when he was ten
signature weapon is a hunting rifle - is the second best with guns after lucas + follows the st canon of him using a rifle in s1e1
el's design
wardrobe always consists of one thing from a different party member (ex. gray hoodie is actually mike's, next day she wears a lucas jacket or a will flannel, etc.) it makes her feel safe :'D
doesn't have a signature weapon + is very versatile - just tends to use whatever's on hand at times or the environment around her
---
other notes: i fucking love apocalypse shit :P i'm still working on the whole outline of course, but if you're wondering, the infection i'm imagining would be a mix between days gone + l4d + a smidgen of tlou while the world is similar to tlou and a little of twd. i'll include some upside down stuff with the infection to make it feel like st :D i'm currently planning where i want this universe to go, with backstories and relationship dynamics between the entire party - byler will be the main romantic relationship, but i'll also dedicate some time to lumax too. however, the biggest theme surrounding this au is found family for me, so while romance will still be important, i want to put a lot of focus on the entire group's dynamic as a whole!

Not only was Will wishing he could be with Mike here, but he was probably also thinking about how, even if he somehow found love, he wouldn’t be able to publicly display affection like that. He looks between Mike and El and stops at their hands before they skate away. He then scans the room to see other couples skating together. Even in some world where Will is loved, he can’t skate with his partner or go on dates in public. He’s thinking about how he can’t have Mike, but that doesn’t matter because what he’s longing for is something he can never achieve with or without Mike.

This is everything the Stranger Things writers have posted publicly about the WGA strike:
TIMELINE
May 3rd:
Tumblr media
Stranger Things writer Caitlin Schneiderhan tweets picture from personal Twitter account of sign from the strike that reads 'Pay us or Steve Harrington is toast'
May 6th:
Tumblr media
Official Stranger Writers Twitter account makes post on behalf of the Duffers Brothers. They have since pinned this tweet to their profile. "Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we're excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then -- over and out. #wgastrong
Bonus:
Tumblr media
May 12th:
Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry posts picture from personal Tumblr account of sign that reads, 'Byler won’t write itself'
As far as I know, the two writers that posted on their personal socials are the only writers from ST that even have personal accounts that are public, whereas the rest of the writers do not.
What does make me take a pause though, is that, while yes they did post these pictures from their personal accounts, which is about as official as it gets, they also cryptically did not include themselves in said pictures...
This just got me thinking about how Stranger Things is quite literally Netflix and vise versa. They are practically one in the same, where one without the other just doesn't make sense.
While this conflict of interest might run deep for many writers out there fearing to speak out against their employer, for us, the consumers, the fans, we as a collective have so much more power than we realize.
In contrast to the writers, streamers can't just fire their consumer base sometime down the line, out of spite for speaking out. Without consumers, neither Stranger Things nor Netflix would be what it is today.
We have the affordance of being able to speak up the loudest of anyone. And so why wouldn't we take advantage of that?
There are so many people out there protesting: writers, actors, others in the industry and even outside of it who are also taking a stand, many who need support so that they can continue to fight in the upcoming days, weeks, months, without being deterred by corporations that are making them feel greedy for demanding a contract that at most, asks that they be paid fairly.
And so I want to encourage anyone that is reading this, but fellow fans of Stranger Things especially, who have so much power in this strike when it comes to getting Netflix's attention, to consider taking the time to do whatever you can individually + with the masses as a community in order to best support the strike.
Follow the Strike! If you're active on various social media already, please be sure to follow the official accounts advocating for the strike via Instagram (@writersguildwest/@wgaeast), via Twitter (@WGAWest/@WGAEast). Engage with posts from folks that are out there daily, many with whom you can find by following tags like #WGAStrong, #WGAStrike and #WritersStrike. Although most fans are not able to join in picketing themselves, we can at least recognize all of those out there's individual efforts and do our best to show that we're paying attention and listening!
Spread the word! Show support any way you can by sharing posts and articles about the strike, or even fun memes to inform others in a more engaging way. This is the official site for the WGA strike if you want to learn more about what’s going on before diving in! And make sure to stay up-to-date here as things continue to unfold!
Donate! The Entertainment Community Fund is endorsed by the WGA for anyone that wants to support those affected by the strike financially. And this thread on Twitter is an incredible resourse, as it provides an ‘easy, one-click, stress-free, accessible-to-all-budgets’ ways you can support folks on the front lines.
Also! Consider donating through this link for the Entertainment Community Fund, where the money donated still goes directly to that fund, this is just an organizing page for Stranger Things fans specifically! By allowing fans to see how much of an impact we make as a collective, in real time, this could encourage even more ST fans to want to contribute. In a best case scenario, if this GoFundMe were to reach impressive proportions of donations from fans, that could lead to news outlets reporting on it, which could allow an opportunity for even more eyes on the strike, while also even more importantly being able to provide financial support to those that need it.
Trend! On social media, use #StrangerFansforWGA to trend or even just to reach other fans also looking to come together to support the strike!
While I know this post probably wont reach anywhere outside of Tumblr, I want to make a point to encourage those of you that are on other platforms to inform fans in those spaces about the strike and what they can do to help!
Tumblr media
We might not all agree on everything, but I think we can agree on at least one thing... @Netflix & all major streamers and networks out there, who are still refusing to make a fair deal: PAY YOUR WRITERS!
In the mean time, if you're interested in working on different ideas for initiates we can carry out as a fandom, please reach out to me! I might only one person and I might not have all the answers and solutions, but I do know that with more of us working together, our odds of making an impact are much greater!
Over and out!

remember—stranger things is a psychological thriller disguised as a horror/drama. this means that the entire show is basically made up of mind games. if someone tells you that you are reading too much into tiny details, they’re wrong! that’s exactly what the show is intended for!

I'm sorry but this snapshot I just got is HILARIOUS like you would think Will just insulted his mother or something but all he said was like "it's not a big deal that I was quiet today" and Mike goes full "Well it is to ME because I took that shit PERSONALLY and I MISSED YOU so FUCK YOU TOO"

SO. Just in case anyone thought the production team was not that serious about their details / subtext—here’s some proof that the intro lead up to “Mike is in the closet” I was talking about the other day is in fact intentional, down to the tiniest set changes + positioning they make to make subtextual points.
Let me explain.
In the scene where we see the camera pan to where Mike is making out with El / taking her hands off her, we see this image of him (with the little block letters) on El’s dresser, in conjunction with the lines “just a little more time could open closing doors…” blatantly referring to the fact that they’re setting up Mike being in the closet.
They’ve even added his name at the bottom so you know for a fact it’s him in the image / who the subtext applies to, leaving not even a bit of space for another conclusion.
Tumblr media
—in S03E03, however, we see the exact same image on El’s nightstand (sans the block letters) because it’s just meant to show her passive affection for Mike—same as her little shrine we see in S4. The picture is (obviously) not the point of the shot…but it’s clearly the same picture (if you look at the space around the frame).
I even went in on my full screen TV for a close up lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From this alone, we can conclude a few things:
1: they literally rearranged props in El’s room to get that shot of Mike’s picture to be there—with the addition of his name to make sure no one was confused who it was.
2: this pic was intentionally placed to be a part of a line of a shot, which also included a rainbow + Mike’s name on the wall, a picture drawn by Will, and a mask…which is honestly only slightly less heavy-handed subtext than that gd one way sign in S4.
3: they had the lyrics “just a little more time could open closing doors” edited to match the timing of this image being shown to the audience…as Mike’s first shot of the season…before he takes his girlfriend’s hands off him making out to start singing.
—I just. Like. Sure you can misinterpret stuff, but. I don’t know how people hold so tightly to “production error trutherism” when swap details to make points like this clearly exist if you’re paying close enough attention.
Also…yeah. They really did rearrange details in El’s room to put subtext about Mike being gay in his first scene, and it’s killing me because…lmaooo production stays doing the MOST
