Actrise!
From Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. One of my fav Castlevania games. She has like no fanart so I gave her a lil sum sum lol
also adjusted her design a tad... fused elements from the two existing official pieces of artwork I found for her

I'm trying to get a consensus on what the Castlevania fandom would like to see once Castlevania: Nocturne wraps up. Which direction should the creative team go in if the series continues?

Do you have any hot takes with any other video game series beyond Sonic the Hedgehog?
Well I already shared mine concerning series like Banjo-Kazooie in the past. So I guess I have to go onto the next platformer series down the line:
The N64 Castlevania game/s are good. I mean it.
For a bit I naturally wondered if nostalgia had put some rose tinted glasses on my head. But after recently playing them for the first time in ages, I still think they hold up pretty well despite their flaws. Yes, like nearly all early 3D games you'll have to deal with more floaty and sensitive jumping and walking/running mechanics, and your biggest enemy will be the camera. But once you become accustomed to the early 3D platformer jank, the gameplay is really no different from the classic platforming from the previous 2D titles. You run, jump, kill enemies, can obtain side weapons, and you fall to your death a lot- complete with all of the Medusa heads. Though there is more focus on exploration in the earlier stages, and you can definitely see the Resident Evil and Zelda influences in the game.
And this is one of those cases where I think the all too common present fog N64 games had actually adds to the game's atmosphere. A spooky lake and forest is exactly where I would expect to see fog, or for a dark and dingy castle to be dusty as all hell. I think this game nailed the atmosphere in general. Helped by it's wonderful soundtrack- which also has my personal favorite rendition of, The Sinking Old Sanctuary.

Also, the game/s has enemies like skeletons on motorcycles and Frankenstein's monster with a chainsaw. Dracula is reborn into a Victorian demon child, who then becomes full on Bishounen dude, and then he turns into a dragon centipede monster. One of the ways you can get items is buying them from a demon who is a salesmen, complete with being dressed in the most typical fancy businessman outfit you can think of- unless you spend over 30,000 in gold. Then you have to fight him because apparently his contract says that you forfeit your soul if you do.
How can I hate a game that goes to town with the weird and quirky stuff?
These games are at least worth checking out. But if you're going to play at least one of them, play the "Legacy of Darkness" release. Aside from it being a director's cut of the original release of the N64 game- there are four story campaigns instead of just Reinhardt and Carrie's, and Cornell was going to be in the original release but him, and many other things, were cut due to time constraints- the stages are better designed and more streamlined, and the camera was improved some.
That magical nitro task in the castle center can still go straight to Hell, though.

been a while since the last one, I guess I took a accidental break after B ended, but lets start C with
Tumblr media
California Speed, another 64 race game, this one doesnt have short cuts but does have alternative paths! also despite being all in california they get pretty creative with most of the stages. It is pretty fun to play! the only things I didnt like were... to unlock stuff you have to play through "weeks" where you have to play the same set of 5-6 stages a bunch of times in a row, and to unlock all the cars you need to do each of those like... 4 times at least. Also I was a little dissapointed a lot of the unlockable stages are just normal race tracks as opposed to the single-lap ones based on locations that you get from the start!

I think people like the original carmageddon? I never plaied it, but Carmageddon 64 port is a huge mess, it is hard to control, even harder to understand, they barelly explain anything, even on training mode, you somehow have 3 possible ways to win a stage and you can do any of them ??? I dont know I gave up after going though the training and 2 stages honestly...

I am bundling Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness together because they are basically the same thing, I mean they are different games, one is a sequel (sidequel?) of the other, but they reuse most of the controls, assets etc, you can literally see the HUD is identical lol
I actually dont think they are so bad! I could see myself finishing them... maybe... the truth is I died in the first one and it took me back so far I kind of gave up for the day... I might pick it up again sometime, but using savestates ia a bit of a pain where I am playing and they dont really give you too many save points after a certain points because they expect you to go back and forward and save on the save rooms you find, like a normal castlevania, except you dont even have a map on this one (at least to the point I was at), and it is 3D, so good luck lol

Gilles de Rais
Tumblr media
I finally get to talk about Gilles de Rais! Yay.
Okay, now, I know that a lot of people are barely aware of this, but technically he actually shows up in a Castlevania game, specifically in Legacy of Darkness. But like so many appearances of Gilles de Rais in media, this has little to do with the historical figure of Gilles de Rais.
So... For a historical character, who shows up in quite a bit of media, we know surprisingly little about him. Which is, because a lot of his stuff had been destroyed after his death.
But let me start from the beginning. Gilles de Rais was a French noble, who was probably born in 1405. Growing up, he became a knight for France, fighting side by side with Jeanne d'Arc against the English. From all that we know, he and Jeanne were friends. How close as friends, we do not know.
Once he retired from war, however, he do know that he turned his back on the church. Why, once again, is not known. But he did no longer give money to the church and instead invested it in having a good live and doing artsy stuff. At some point he started to get into arguments with men of the church and then kidnapped a priest. He got arrested for that.
In the trial that followed, he was then accused of having kidnapped, abused and then killed several young boys. Getting him the name of being alledgedly the first serial killer in history. He was then executed for this. By being first hanged, then burned.
Today, however, a lot of people doubt that he actually did any of that and it was mostly because he became politically inconvenient, by speaking out against the church. (Officially France pardoned him post-humosly a couple of years back.)
So, yeah. I decided to take the simple inspiration of "He shows up in the games" and run with it, to have him as the main antagonist in The lesser Evil. But base his entire thing on the idea of: He was accussed and then executed for a crime he did not commit. And now he has made friends with Lucifer to get his revenge.
