Really badly put together ramble about all the new fucking screen time and shit Espresso got because I’m ecstatic and nobody understands me and I really want to talk about this with someone but I cant

(Rest under cut)

Espresso, although being respected as a well known scientist and researcher,, he doesn’t seem INSANELY respected. Whether its from his ‘humble beginnings’, or maybe even the that his geniuses could be being taken advantage of and being severely under appreciated. Some key points I made from this is that, 1. He used to live in poverty, he was one of the people living in the lower city. 2. His housing situation is very.. scarce, if thats the right word. 3. he’s constantly being rushed(but let me elaborate on this. 4. He’s probably being severely underpaid and being undermined.

1. his entire childhood situation is SO fucking interesting to me. Not only did I (and my best friend) have a similar thing of how he used to be like, living in poverty,, AND NOW ITS CANON. I imagine as a kid the only thing he ever wanted was to become somebody important, research about things, explore the world. Despite how he didn’t have much, he made do with what he had and studied hard, and slowly but surely made his way up into the upper part of the city like nobody else has done before. He was a kid genius, and he KNEW that he was, and he knew that he could use that to his advantage and actually accomplish his dreams. It’s also really cool that he doesn’t seem any more bothered by the ‘disgusting’ part of the city. The place people are so obviously revolted by, seen by the cutscene between the Republic citizens about the night market. He doesn’t seem like he feels any more superior of the people who live there, and he honestly just seems like he hasn’t changed very much. He’s still very kind to Seaweed, and its overall just.. really cool to see.

2. The random scene of him and his landlord going back and forth about his bills and rent was FASCINATING. Its such a random thing, but it must be some what important because Devsis added full voice acting to it. Espressos whole demeanour throughout it all appeared like he really didn’t want to be there. Sure, having your fully-paid rent raided would be absurd to anybody, but he reacted REALLY shocked. Complaining about it too, and I really think he might already be pretty tight on money in the first place. I imagine he genuinely isn’t being paid the load that most people would assume he gets from working with the Elders and being in such a high position. Like its definitely more than enough to live, but its not worth the amount of work he puts into everything. Which leads to things like his rent and bills becoming a problem occasionally,, mostly his bills but along side that, the pricing in the Republic is going up which is just going to cause more of an inconvenience to Espresso.

3. Okay this one might be a stretch, but again with the idea of him working way more than what his salary pays is fun to me. Everyone was constantly on his ass, telling him he has no time and borderline rushing his research and experiments. And they’re not wrong; obviously, he knows he has no time. But literally everyone next to him is basically saying ‘hey not to rush you, but you have like no time LOL so better chop chop lol!!!’ As if he isn’t told that constantly. And he’s not stupid, that’s probably the only thing on his mind right now. I want to think he is like kinda always in this kind of pressure. He works with unrealistic due dates and time limits, he has to pump out months of work in a matter of a few weeks. His brain is constantly gearing and turning because he can’t afford to just stop and relax, he isn’t given the option to do so. Its the ‘pressure of working with the council’. Thats what he convinces himself, but by no means is anyone else being rushed like this (maybe CLC but he has daddy issues that’s his equivalent to Espressos constantly being rushed issue). He worked so hard to fucking get in this position, going from living on the streets and eating scraps when there really wasn’t anything to eat, to now working for and with the Council. He isn’t going to stop, if the Council wants him to work this fast than so be it.

4. I think he is being severely underpaid. Just like how my best friend suggested! He isn’t AS loved, he isn’t AS popular, and he certainly is not on the same level as Madeleine. I feel like the idea of them underpaying him is interesting. Like— he’s a lot more close to the Council than any other researcher, supposedly, he has the literal SOUL JAMS in his possession right now because he’s that trusted. But the Council does not care enough to pay him the amount of what he should be paid for all his work. He does so much shit, but the Council doesn’t respect him enough to go over the top with his salary. He’s just a researcher and professor, after all.

― the moment i found my way back home

I was just but another little soul dwelling in the same bustle of a small town, protected by a lullaby in the comfort of the ordinary – living youth with relish and blooming into adolescence – not reckoning the days nor the nights passing by. Little did I know, the regularity of a stagnant everyday life has done me good, alluring me into the depths of adventures and fascinating me enough to explore what these eyes could not lay on over the horizon.

The year was 2015. Dancing to K-Pop songs, my hobby, even though I lack the technicalities or the groove, messes up with the tempo, could not hit the beat, and was nowhere near excelling at it, was one of the things that gave me overall satisfaction. However, my mind could not fathom nor remember the slightest tiny bit of how, despite a certain video streaming platform having its feed and search history filled with Korean acts, there was a sudden recommendation in the interface, out of nowhere, of one lone Japanese act — Bullet Train or Chotokkyuu, with 'Ebiday Ebinai' Music Video.

I neither had a background nor history with Japanese acts prior to the boys surfacing on my account, but if it just so happened that I recklessly skipped that one, I cannot imagine how monotonous I would be today. From putting on loop one music video, their discography eventually turned into a lifestyle — one that I looked forward to, the best part of the day. Their songs and choreographies have a distinct vibe only they own, and no lies, I was more attracted by their unique charms in 'スターダスト LOVE TRAIN' and goofiness in 'バッタマン,' which not a lot of talents risk doing.

Albeit I became a huge fan, I hate to admit it, but my mind slowly forgot them, disappearing from my every day like they were never once a precious routine. My last with them was 'My Buddy.' And it was when K-Pop pulled me closer and hugged me with groups like Infinite, B.A.P, UNIQ, Romeo, Victon, NCT, Golden Child, TRCNG, Produce 101 Season 2 Trainees, Sonamoo, Lovelyz, WJSN, and CLC. There, I experienced both the ecstasy of happiness and the atrocities of the pain of the inevitable in the industry with the eyes of a fan.

Come the pandemic, I was not ready for the twist, interest-wise, it had prepared ready for me. I indulged myself with NCT content, so as not to beat myself with the stress and anxiety the situation has brought — that's one, but the waves of the ocean were yet to unveil the wonders I was yet to encounter. Everything was going as usual on the video streaming platform, again, but not until an advertisement video came up and played.

It was a cheery and melodic song with the use of muted color palette, which was, in my opinion, a bit in contrast to the atmosphere of the song but, ironically, complemented either way. The visuals had people playing and scenes amusing, hence I murmured within myself how good of a concept it was. Although I seemed to enjoy it, a piece of evidence was the fact that I did not skip the ad, part of me was troubled as the stars seemed familiar. Very familiar. Then, in a snap, I heard 'Ebiday Ebinai' in the lyrics — it was Bullet Train! Again! And in an unexpected meeting! Again! This time, it was with 'Stand Up,' and I didn't waste any time catching up on what I missed during the time I was away.

At that moment, I was so happy. It was like a long-gone piece of me was finally found. Since then, I am with them and will always be with them. I do regret, to the bones, that I had been missing out on such gems the past years. My journey to meeting them, again, may just be another coincidence, but I would like to believe that it was all destiny. That it was written in beautiful italics under the Book of Destiny and was meant to happen all along.

The adventurous in me may have set sail along unstable waters, but who would have known that the same water would not trample me over, instead it led me in the best and calmest way. I may have gone on a voyage wherein Bullet Train was my destination, but from there on, the moment I found my way back home, I became more ready to embark on the gr8est journey of my life with them. I may not know what life has in store for me, but with them as my anchor and their songs as my sail, I am brave enough to conquer what these eyes could not lay on over the horizon.

How WAKEONE sabotages Kep1er and creates solo-stans in lieu of actually doing their job

It's no secret that WAKEONE is doing a disastrous job at managing and promoting Kep1er. There have been plenty of posts and videos made recently and i will try my best not to just regurgitate what has been said a million times already, but I haven't seen anybody talk about this specifically and i believe i may be onto something.

After the rigging scandal with X1 and Iz*One, mnet chose to rebrand their produce series as Girls Planet 999. It's functionally the same show with a few cosmetic differences, but only one that actually matters - there couldn't be any vote rigging. This meant that mnet could manipulate the outcome only through video editing and storylines, you know, like the other normie reality shows.

Although this method is highly effective and i believe mnet got most of the contestants they wanted in the top 9, nothing was actually certain. With pre-rigged groups like Iz*One, the company had time to think the concept and sound of the group through and pick members accordingly. gp999 was super rushed in and of itself and since mnet had no guarantee that their picks would make it to the final lineup, they only had a vague idea for a concept and no concrete sound in mind.

Fast forward to today, WAKEONE hasn't found a proper direction for Kep1er over a year after their debut. The music feels haphazardly put together and their concept is in the middle of an identity crisis. WAKEONE can't sell the group to an audience that didn't follow gp999. But they have found a way to use the fans that did follow the show to keep Kep1er in the eyes of the general public.

Though most of this post will be focused on Huening Bahiyyih, this treatment applies to all of the members in some way. Her case is just the most exemplary of the company's strategy.

Bahiyyih had an interesting role on gp999. She, along with Choi Yujin, was the thing that sold the show and made people interested. Hiyyih came with a built-in fanbase and mnet m i l k e d her connection to her brother Kai every chance they got while giving her remarkably nonexistent screen time. She was put in gp to hype up the episodes but almost wasn't featured in them.

I think WAKEONE saw Bahiyyih as an opportunity to generate some outrage marketing. She has the most fans out of the group as well as the most haters. Furthermore, she has no experience in the industry prior to gp. These factors made WAKEONE comfortable with assigning her permanent ad-lib duty and openly putting her down.

Of course, this makes her fans mad, so they drum up noise on social media. All of that makes her haters mad, so they start replying. Non-fans/casual fans see the hate Bahiyyih is getting and start supporting her. Kep1er ends up trending with their most recent cb on twitter.

The case of Yujin is strange as well. She came into the show with the force of every cheshire behind her, was a centrepiece for the promotions and drew people into gp, only for her to be reduced to a little more than a backup dancer. Though mnet and WAKEONE don't dare mistreat her as openly, due to her status as a veteran in kpop, they still give her crumbs to work with. Yujin was arguably one of the best dancers in CLC, with experience as both vocalist and rapper, as well as an actress, and here she stands with the least amount of lines and centre time only second to Bahiyyih. You can imagine what that is doing to cheshire.

The girls have so much potential too, and absolutely none of it gets utilized. Xiaoting could be for Kep1er what Wonyoung was for Iz*One, but isn't allowed to. Yujin, for all the skill and experience she has as an idol, stands there as a formation placeholder. Mashiro and Yeoso are practically being hidden. Dayeon and Hikaru have the potential to be outstanding rappers, but only get talk-on-the-beat parts. Chaehyun and Youngeun don't get the challenging vocal parts they need to show off their skills. Bahiyyih's clean dance and vocals can't do much with 10s of total centre time.

WAKEONE doesn't care for Kep1er as a group. WAKEONE has no confidence in their music, concept, dynamics, anything. So they create a space for solo stans to fight, stream, shout into the void and let that generate them enough cash so they break even on the gp investment.

Please take care, my dear Kep1ians, and don't let yourself be exploited by a company so outstandingly uncaring, even for kpop entertainment company standards.

A song that needs to be played LOUD okay well i am going to cheat here and give you three vastly different songs that all fall under this description. first of all hobgoblin by clc just instantly popped in my head upon reading the question. like not to expose myself as an unhinged undying cheshire but this might be one of the top 3 gg songs ever released and when i listen to it i always imagine the gotham city sirens smashing a gang of corrupt cops to bits. it needs to be blasted at full volume. second of all i wanna say dynamite by shinee because i have to be able to absolutely scream along to it and still hear jjong going ham with the ad libs, i think we all understand. thirdly i'm going to say disintegration by the cure (although this is true of a lot of the cure songs, it just happens to be perhaps my absolute favourite) because i need to be able to have it wash all over me and feel cleansed by the raw emotion of the instruments and robert smith's screechy ass vocals as it fades out.

One of your favorite 80’s songs already said livin on a prayer to marti however i appreciate that this question is asked again because as i said in that answer the 80s are truly my musical decade so i have a plethora of 80s faves. therefore you will get multiple answers again 🫶🏼 first of all. fast car by tracy chapman. need i say more it is simply one of the most devastatingly beautiful songs ever written, every time i hear a cover of it it truly pisses me off because no one can ever capture the magic of tracy's voice and her understated emotion on that song. even as i write this i have to fight tears welling up in my eyes i love this song so much. secondly, love will tear us apart by joy division one of the greatest expressions of melancholy ever created i'm screaming crying throwing up alternative 80s bands i love you. it would be fucking wrong if i did not mention tainted love by soft cell because god knows how many times i've sung that song on the 80s edition of sing star in middle school and made it into a whole damn spectacle. and let me just mention what's love got to do with it by tina turner, call me by blondie and victims of love by buck-tick and then stop myself before i start mentioning every 80s song i love. i refrained from even thinking about the cure's discography for this question so that it wasn't just the cure songs. they will pop up for nearly every other question anyway.

A song that would sing a duet with on karaoke no air by jordin sparks with chr*s brown oh my god i LOVE singing that song so much it's ridiculous. but also promiscuous by nelly furtado and timbaland and ALSO when you believe by whitney houston and mariah carey.

A song that makes you want to fall in love just like heaven by the cure... and love song by the cure.... and burn by the cure... and fade into you by mazzy star... i feel you by the wonder girls... baby tonight by a.c.e... and also vanilla by kai. sorry i can't get into it with these songs i'll be here for ages if i do but just like. it's in their entirety it's there. the love.

A song that reminds you of yourself kill all your friends by my chemical romance tbh always feels like it's speaking to me directly. every time i listen to it. which doesn't happen so often because it makes me kind of depressed just how resonant it is.
