Someone mentioned that Percabeth fans are usually Annabeth fans, while anti-Percabeth ppl are usually Percy fans and while for what I've seen this isn't entirely true (anti-Percabeth fans are more in touch with the source material and think more critically) there is an element of truth to it.
A lot of Percy stans see how Annabeth treats Percy
Calling him seaweed brain continously, even when theyre adults in college which means stupid (confirmed by Rick Riordan himself)
Hitting/punching/judo-flipping Percy as punishment, not in play or sparring or joke which might excuse it
Talking down to Percy like he's dumb and stupid instead of dyslexic (because Percy is not stupid, contrary to popular opinion, and that is supported by canon)
Controlling Percy's friend network and lowkey isolating him
Playing mind games to keep Percy on his toes, constantly trying to be on his "best boyfriend behavior"
And they're just... really uncomfortable with it. Like yeah sure, Percabeth has a few sweet scenes... but that doesn't take away from any of this. An abusive relationship is still abusive if the couple have a few good moments together. That's part of the strategy the abuser uses to keep the victim in the dark about what they're doing, and to keep them in that relationship.
Percy is still getting hurt, and worse, believing that he deserves to be treated that way and believing that he's lucky he has Annabeth. This may not alarm Annabeth fans because they're not looking at Percy, but it does alarm Percy stans because they are paying attention to Percy, more so than Annabeth.
It takes a critical mind to recognize it and even more so to realize that women can be abusive too. Men are not always the abusers in relationships. Abusive relationships are more about control than they are about how many bruises the abuser is leaving on the victim.

ok but what is it with the recent dumb-sidekick-ification for grover underwood. grover was probably one of the most logical and sensible characters in the pjo series. a lot of the times he saved the day, or at least helps in saving the day.
but in the tv show, he's this comedic relief guy who doesn't do anything. he comes in ten minutes later and he's like "are you guys done yet??". he oh so conveniently lost his pearl. he does all the manipulation tricks to ares only to arrive at a wrong answer, basically proving his tactics as useless. in wrath of the triple goddess, he just drinks a strawberry potion even though everyone told him not to, basically potentially messing up his best friends future (but this is not a solid point since we don't know the full plot yet).
it would have been really cool if he had his reed pipes and played a role in all of the adventures. it would have been cool if he had started suspecting luke, but not told percy and annabeth after seeing how much they idolized him. I really hope that in wotg, it's revealed that there was some manipulation behind grover drinking the potion.
one of the many reasons why pjo was kind of great was because rick used the generic tropes of comedic relief sidekick for grover but made him powerful in his own ways. and I hope he keeps that in mind all the time.

im really not a fan of Rick's recent trend of recycling bits of his writing that got a good reaction the first time and acting as if that's a valid substitute for. actually bothering to write something original a second time around. It's clearly just there as a callback and nothing more.
It's "Nico's rage exploded" and "Percy's rage exploded" with the exact same paragraph formatting. It's CoTG having titles like "My Singing Makes Things Worse, and Everyone Is Totally Shocked" (reference to TLO, when Percy says he thinks his singing would cause an avalanche) or "Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever" (reference to TLO "Pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time") or any other number of near word-for-word references to the first series. It's Nico calling Percy "seaweed brain" in Un Natale Mezzosangue (when Percy says in TTC that anybody but Annabeth calling him that is a major offense). It's Nico and Will falling into Tartarus in TSATS word-for-word referencing Percy and Annabeth in House of Hades, despite it not making any sense for their characters (and otherwise being written as Percabeth 2™). It's the show making huge changes but keeping random "fan-favorite references" (mostly overusing "seaweed brain" and "wise girl" and emphasizing percabeth) only because they're popular in-jokes and considering that a faithful enough adaptation to market it heavily as such. It's lazy writing.
And it's a disservice to the series and to the audience, because it clearly shows Rick doesn't have original ideas anymore (though given all his writing is heavily derivative to begin with, it begs the question how much was original in the first place and how much he has difficulty when he doesn't have a structured mythological plot to work from) and that there is an expectation that the audience will just sit down and accept that behavior hook-line-and-sinker. Everything recently is clearly such lip-service to the audience, either in retcons that are overt speaking-to-camera acknowledgements of things he's been criticized on or wink-wink-nudge-nudges of community in-jokes that have no business in the actual text (see: over-use of ship names in canon). Especially since Rick tends to be about 5 years behind on the fandom uptake. It's just so disappointing to see.

i LOVE the talent and energy and love walker leah aryan put into the show and how much they care about their characters!!! they are my cutie pattootie and i pray for renewal so they can have a long successful career.
HOWEVER, absolving the show of all criticism because "uncle rick wants the change!!" and "its an adaptation!!" is just poor media literacy. the percy jackson story defined a generation of kids to accept their learning disabilities, to love mythology, to be brave and loyal because that means THEY COULD BE A DEMIGOD.
youre SUPPOSED to WANT TO BE into this world, which brilliantly weaves elements of ancient mythology and modernize it, where gods and monsters and heroes exist and its exciting and fun and makes you feel OKAY and BELIEVE that theres a world within this world that you belong to. i live in nyc and even as an adult my heart beats faster whenever i walk past the empire state building because olympus is there and i go to montauk every summer looking for camp half blood.
but the show did NOT do that, AT ALL, which breaks my fucking heart. it spent so much time on more "serious mature" themes that it failed to do the ONE thing a kid's show is supposed to do: be IMAGINATIVE.
like ion wanna fucking be a demigod if i have to be in this melodramatic family drama thanks!
rick's involvement in the show is NOT a good thing. he has spent so many years with these characters that he has forgotten the essence of writing for kids. he did not write these books to shit on the gods, or to discuss how difficult it is to raise a neurodivergent kid, or to untangle dysfunctional family. he wrote it for his SON, whos ADHD and loves silly story!
sometimes author just need to accept that once their characters are out there in the world they have to LET THEM GO. and obviously judging from rick's releasing CoTG he cant seem to do that for whatever reason. just because hes a great writer doesnt mean hes suitable for TV writing. just because he wants to rewrite his own material doesnt mean its BETTER.
if anything, now that i have watched the full show, i donttrust him anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man if you love PJO so much why do you complain constantly about canon?
Hi anon.
PJO is good. There's still flaws, but most of them are relatively minor, and easy to fix with fanfics and analysis in fandom spaces.
HoO and COTG are dumpster fires. There's a few redeemable points which is why I still read them/part of them, but like. Dumpster fires.
My biggest issue is that a huge chunk of the fandom glorifies parts of the series that seem like just bad and inconsistent writing to me. Percy's characterization was destroyed, and ppl claim that 'no he was always that way,' and lets not get started on Perc@beth.
I think it all comes down to the fact that, if everyone agreed about everything in fandom spaces, it would be incredibly boring. Few few new ideas would be brought in. Everything would be mainstream, and ppl with differing opinions would feel excluded and not welcomed.
That's one of the reasons why I'm so outspoken on this blog, "complaining" about all the things I don't like in canon. So that it sparks interesting conversations, ideas, and appeals to ppl who are uncomfortable to mainstream ships and characterizations like me.

Annabeth and Percy/Annabeth Content (Critical)
DO NOT INTERACT if you like Annabeth, or if you like Percy/Annabeth.
If some of the things Annabeth says or does to Percy makes you uncomfortable, or if you're just questioning some of it (unsure about following mainstream Percabeth shipping) then this is for you.
This is part thirteen of my masterpost (that had too many links so I had to break it up lol).
Anyways, this section is all criticisms about the Percy/Annabeth ship, and some of Annabeth's behavior in the book series. Beware; this is not Annabeth friendly. I'm constantly editing and adding new links and content so please check out the original post on my blog for the updated version.
Enjoy!
Percy/Annabeth in PJO:
Double standards for Percy/Annabeth with paying respect to the other's immortal parent
Percabeth was only possible because Rachel and Luke took themselves out of the competition
Many of Percabeth’s scenes feel so much like foreshadowing for a realization from Percy that he’s in an abusive relationship (someone else's post but I agree 100%)
Percy is Annabeth’s rebound because her first love turned into an evil overlord and died.
Every time Annabeth is mean to Percy in PJO + Staff of Hermes (not mine, idk if I agree with all of these but it's an interesting list).
Annabeth is Percy's rebound from Rachel; and Percy is Annabeth's rebound from Luke.
Percy/Annabeth in HoO+:
Trust and Vulnerability in Percy/Annabeth's Relationship + Someone else's thoughts why Percy rarely opens up
Tartarus made Percy and Annabeth into the worst version of themselves
The judo flip + Percy's mortal spot: A Murder Attempt?!
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the flip, and how/if that affected their shipping of Percabeth
Commentary on the Judo Flip by Piper Mcclean
Commentary on how well Percy and Annabeth know each other's backstories by Piper Mcclean
Comparison: Annabeth seeing Percy at his most powerful vs. Nico seeing Percy at his most powerful.
Percy/Annabeth fans claim everything Percy does is about Annabeth - Disproved
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the "some things [poison] aren't meant to be controlled" scene
Discussions on Percy being scared of Annabeth, fans romantizing that and the effects of Rick's shitty, shitty writing
Commentary: Percy commenting on Annabeth's victim blaming tendencies
General: Percy deserves better (not mine but I agree)
Moment in the KC crossover where Percy admits he fears Annabeth
Percy's unaddressed trauma + Annabeth's tendency to get mad at/make fun of/insult Percy (not mine but I agree)
The judo-flip was done out of anger and as a (unrightful) punishment (not mine but I agree)
Percabeth stans are Annabeth stans and anti-Percabeth ppl are Percy stans: a theory
Percy/Annabeth in CoTG:
An Analysis of Percy/Annabeth's life together as adults
Criticism of Percy and Annabeth's relationship "Perc@beth is the gold standard and no-one is doing it like them."
Top tier analysis of what Percy/Annabeth's relationship outside of trauma bonding and wartime (and a few other topics like emotional vulnerability and jealously/insecurities). (not mine but I agree with it)
Annabeth (Critical) Content:
Fans give Annabeth credit for things she didn't do
Is Annabeth as badass, formidable in battle strategy and leadership as her fans claims she is? Evidence from the books.
Annabeth views Percy as a replacement for Luke (not mine, but I agree)
Annabeth stalks Percy with her invisibility cap while he's changing his clothes (pre-relationship).
Poll: What type of Annabeth Chase fan are you?
Anon ask: Annabeth's pattern of turning Percy's female friends against him (in the sense that they're still friends but they insult him jokingly to appease Annabeth)
Annabeth called Percy the coward when in reality she was the coward for never communicating (not mine but I agree).
Annabeth stans like to distract everyone from Annabeth's embarrassing crush on Luke & her Luke apologism by pointing at Luke and unjustly saying pedo.
A short spiel about general redemption arcs that I think would apply to Annabeth - no actual analysis relating it to PJO tho.
Annabeth stans really be out there saying that she has the most tragic backstory in PJO like no other character exists
Annabeth is incredibly aggressive to anyone who challenges her or doesn't fit into her perfect worldview/plan.
Annabeth stans may like her because they see themselves in her? (the aggression, entitlement, jealously etc.)
Poll: Does Annabeth acknowledge that Percy is smart?
Annabeth's worst crime is how she treated Tyson
