I was bored. Is this anything?

“Ah, fuck!”

The knife clattered to the counter, before bouncing onto the ground. Imogen, clutching her hand tightly as a drop of red hit the countertop, danced away from the counter as the knife fell and rattled on the ground for a brief second before coming to rest.

“What is it, darling,” Laudna said as her attention was pulled away from the book she was reading in the solarium adjacent to the kitchen. She looked up to find Imogen turning and holding her hand, a stream of blood now starting to appear through her fingers. Immediately, she noticed the red streak, and hopped up from her chair, dropping her book onto the table. “Oh!”

Imogen looked around frantically for a towel, only finding a small rag that was already a bit damp. “Shit,” she said as she continued to peer around the counter for something to stem the bleeding.

Laudna, meanwhile, scurried around to the washroom for clean wash rags, and fetched the first aid kit that was kept behind the closet door nearby in the process. Within moments, she came back to the kitchen to see Imogen still looking but unable to focus. “Here, sit,” Laudna said as she walked over to Imogen and slowly ushered her over to a seat.

Imogen looked up at Laudna as she walked her over to the chair she had just been sitting in. Laudna could tell Imogen was biting her lip in an effort to mitigate the pain, the sting quite pronounced still in her hand.

“What happened,” Laudna asked as she sat Imogen down and began to examine her hand. She could now see the deep gash across the palm of Imogen’s hand, a good two inches long, but didn’t appear to be very deep.

“I was cutting apples for a pie,” Imogen began to explain, her hand trembling as Laudna examined the cut. “I got a little too careless and wasn’t paying attention…” her voice trailed off in embarrassment.

Laudna remained focused on Imogen’s hand however, looking it over and taking the wash rags to stem the flow of the bleeding. As she squeezed Imogen’s hand applying pressure, Imogen sat with her head in her other hand, still in discomfort but feeling more calm and less shaky. “It’s okay,” Laudna said calmly. “It doesn’t look bad.”

Over the next minutes, Laudna sat there applying pressure and ensuring that the bleeding had stopped. She took a few rags and wet them, cleaning Imogen’s hands of the dried blood that stained her fingers, wrist, down to her arm.

Laudna cleaned the last of the blood from Imogen’s hands, not wanting to leave a drop not even under her fingernails. She dropped the rags to the floor and took a clean, dry towel to Imogen’s hand, patting it dry over the wound that was still very red and tender. She pulled the towel away and placed it on her lap, as she took Imogen’s hand into both of hers now.

With her hand sandwiched between Laudna’s, Imogen could still feel the slight sting of pain emanating from her hand. She closed her eyes, her head dropping from her other hand as Laudna continued to squeeze gently. Suddenly, she felt one of Laudna’s hands pull away and her hand start to lift up from where it had been resting, being held by Laudna.

She opened her eyes and saw Laudna place her lips to Imogen’s hand where the wound was. It didn’t hurt any more than it had a few moments ago; in fact, she thought it might even now feel a little bit better, though the wound was still quite visible.

As Laudna brought Imogen’s hand back down to the table, she continued to hold it delicately, as she prepared a bandage with her free hand.

“Thank you,” Imogen said as Laudna began to carefully wrap the bandage around Imogen’s hand. Within a minute, she had covered the wound and secured the bandage around Imogen’s wrist, leaving her fingers exposed just enough so she could keep the use of her hand for the next few days as it healed.

“Always,” Laudna said as she pulled Imogen's hand back up toward her lips once more. She kissed the knuckles of her hand this time, as Imogen held it aloft daintily. She blushed before retracting her hand delicately.

Laudna began to clean up the mess as Imogen leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek. “You’re quite the doctor,” she said with a light giggle, before walking back over to where the knife still sat on the kitchen floor.

Laudna smiled as she gathered the wash rags that were soiled with Imogen’s blood and stood up from the table. “Only for you,” Laudna replied. She left the room with the collection of rags and deposited them into a bin that was nearly starting to overflow with other dirty linens and clothes.

She returned in short order to the solarium, walking past Imogen as she went by and giving her a little tap on the ass as Imogen placed the rest of the apples into the pie crust. She jumped playfully as she felt Laudna’s hand impact on her backside, letting out a little squeal, before saying “be careful, wouldn't want me getting cut again, not unless you’re gonna take care of it?”

Laudna stopped in her tracks and turned back, approaching Imogen from behind and wrapping her arms around her as she pressed her stomach against Imogen’s back. “I would always take care of it, darling.” Laudna kissed the back of Imogen’s head and gave her a squeeze.

Imogen felt a warmth wash over her, and a shiver as the kisses on her neck sent a shockwave down her spine. “Careful, you,” she said to Laudna playfully. “Let me get this in the oven.”

Laudna stepped away and allowed Imogen to do as she had wished, the apple pie now prepared and ready to be placed in the oven to bake. As she did, Laudna poured them both fresh cups of tea and prepared a tray with the necessities. "Put that in, then come have some tea with me,” Laudna said as she resumed her walk back toward the solarium, carrying the tea tray with her.

“Now that sounds lovely,” Imogen said. She slid the pie into the awaiting oven, then removed her apron and placed it onto the counter. Letting out a sigh of accomplishment, Imogen joined her wife in the solarium, where they enjoyed their afternoon tea as the aroma of a freshly baking pie filled the cottage.

Dierta Thelyss was very intimidating, even when very pregnant and wrapped in comfortable house robes.

Perhaps it was because Duani knew Deirta had thousands of years of life experience, compared to her meager three hundred; maybe it was because she had the power to ruin Duani’s life with the flick of her delicate wrist.

Either way, she was terrified, though she did everything she could to hide it, keeping her hands clasped behind her back to hide sweaty palms. Duani had been recommended to the Umavi personally, which was the only reason she was here. If her previous clients had such faith in her, then surely she should have the same confidence in herself. Right?

“Everything seems to be in order,” the Umavi said then, not even looking at Duani as she sorted through the paperwork in front of her. “When are you available to move in?”

Duani blinked in surprise. Was that it? Did that mean…? “I am available as soon as you wish,” she answered, voice breathless despite her best attempts.

“Excellent,” the Umavi continued as she signed the contract with an elegant quill. “Your room will be set up today then. The cleric believes I still have a few weeks before the child is due, but such predictions are unreliable and I do not like surprises, so you will move in immediately.”

“Oh… okay,” Duani replied with a shaky nod. This was all happening very fast. She hesitated, unsure if she was supposed to say or do anything else. After a moment, the Umavi looked up to her.

“Surik will show you to your rooms once they are prepared tomorrow,” she explained distantly. “You are free to acquaint yourself with the grounds and the Den until the child is born. That is all for today.”

Shadowgast Corporate/Office-Au Rec List!

Hello I'm back again with more disaster wizard (well and in this case working professional but more office-like setting) recommendations!

This list is a little bit more bawdy than normal (I love a good smut fic, but I also try to vary the ratings on these lists for those who may not share my enthusiasm).

As per my last email (11651 words) by LivThael (I don't think they are on Tumblr- if they do please comment so I can tag- but they have a twitter listed in the notes of the fic) Chapters: 11/11 Rating: Explicit Summary: Essek Thelyss is an asshole with a questionable taste in spreadsheets. Caleb Widogast has more important and certainly more interesting things to do than filing travel expense claims. A series of mails turns into a escalating meeting. Or: Please stop writing me emails, I genuinely hate you. - Explicit content only in chapter 10.

What I loved: Anyone who has worked in an office knows a passive aggressive email when they get one. Plus we have the added bonus of having to deal with accounting to get expenses covered- ugh, so good. The energy of these passive aggressive- yet flirty workplace emails between new hire Caleb and kind-of-an-asshole Essek in accounting is *chefs kiss*. The build up to their meeting was written so well! I also really love the way the fic is formatted- the email style gives it an immersive feel.

2 Paradigm Shift

Paradigm Shift (114,291 words) by full_time_dreamer_behold (I don't know their tumblr, please totally feel free to tag if they have one- i'll add it). Chapters: 28/28 Rating: Teen and up Audiences Summary: Recently moved to Rosohna, Caleb accepts a job at a prestigious law firm, but the work turns out to be menial and dull. Thankfully, his life takes a turn when he makes new friends and starts taking a curious interest in the IT Manager- the handsome and intriguing Essek Thelyss. Could he be reason enough for Caleb to stay in this place? He certainly intends to find out.

A friends-to-idiots-to-lovers slow burn with a sweet ending.

What I loved: This was such a lovely slow burn. It covers hard topics in a corporate kind of setting including racism, nepotism, and power dynamics that really suck but it handled with care and well written. I also really love the disability representation here! This slow burn is so so good, I super recommend! Also bonus it's the length of a beefy novel!

Chapters: 38/? Rating: Explicit Summary: Caleb Widogast does not belong here. The world of sharp suits, board meetings, and billion dollar budgets is a far cry from Caleb’s preferred domain: the research lab. Where nobody cares about his faded T-shirts and raggedy jeans. But a year of industry experience will look good on his CV, and the hefty pay bump wouldn’t hurt either. How hard could a secretary gig be? What he finds behind the glittering edifice of Auriga, Wildemount’s leading name in arcane technology, is CEO Essek Thelyss, who maintains his domain with an acid tongue and an iron fist. It’s difficult not to find him intriguing, this handsome, guarded, brilliant man. It’s even more difficult not to want to please him. Caleb knows to keep it professional, though. Working late nights together at the office and lingering glances here and there don’t cross the boundaries of propriety. That is, until they do.

Or: the one where Essek Thelyss loses focus and has a consensual workplace relationship.

Why I love it: Out of all the recs this one is the SPICIEST (and I love that). Head the warnings - there may be stuff that isn't for you, but if you, like me, enjoy a 6/5 spicy level fic- congrats this one will not disappoint. This story is in progress but updates weekly which is fantastic. We have big time and hot mess CEO Essek and his personal assistant disaster bisexual Caleb- of course it's an HR scandal waiting to happen, but also, Essek might come out a better person for it. I cannot recommend this enough, this fic is so so good. In addition to the smut, it's also just a really fantastic story.

sleep, with benefits (62272 words) by KmacKatie @kmackatie Chapters: 12/12 Rating: Explicit Summary: Caleb Widogast wakes up from the first good night of sleep in far too long. It takes him a moment to realise it's because he's not in his bed. Is it the better mattress (lump-free and like a cloud), or the fact he drunkenly slept with Essek Thelyss, the colleague he's been secretly crushing on for the last six months?

Why I loved it: Let me just start off by saying kmackatie is brilliant and everything shadowgast that katie writes makes my heart sing. In this fic Essek and Caleb are captured so well- they are both big idiots who act like scared cats around one another (even though they both want the same thing) but honestly- can there be any other dynamic? This hot mess of them not using their words eventually leads to the best of endings and you should all read it because it is so lovely.

This resolution lasted a remarkable twenty-four hours. * Small-town high school science teacher Caleb Widogast has his life more or less figured out, or so he thinks. Then an unexpected variable gets thrown into the equation in the form of the new addition to the teaching staff: the handsome and clever Essek Thelyss.

Why I loved it: This fic was so sweet. I have a soft spot for fics that play with chronology in their story telling and this one does a bit of that. It is a shorter read but honestly that works really well for this love story. Caleb of course falls hard and fast and Essek does not mind at all. Some angst, but they are written so well and so soft, Brilliant <;3

i still have very loose thoughts bouncing around but something that immediately stood out to me last night was bor'dor telling orym "i go where you go" and how that must have felt when orym is missing the other 2/3 of his little trio. when he's BEEN missing dorian who looked to orym after the events of exu prime and told him "i'll follow [you]" and is now missing fearne who said "i'll go where you both go". and the trust and devotion between the three of them was hard won after a very trying two ish months. and bor'dor, who may have only been given the chance to talk to orym because he reminded orym of will and that grief is particularly fresh again, has given him a crazy amount of faith 24 hours after meeting him. and orym was hesitant to unwilling to take on a leadership position with the crown keepers when he had his new, hesitant better half to "give looks that a spouse gives a spouse" and defer to and now he's without fearne and dorian and staring at this kid who just woke up with powers he doesn't know what to do with and just had his little life blown up and has found this group just as orym is crumbling and has no clue what to do with himself anymore. i have to imagine that that weight is so heavy right now, even if there is appreciation there.

Y'know, I feel really bad for the people who are still in that server and have to put up with all the hateful rhetoric that mod is spewing out because they can't speak up about it in fear of getting banned.

Yeah, and just to serve as a general reminder that it is not everyone in that server are like this; it's mostly Shandale, a couple other mods, and a few other members, with the other mods who haven't engaged with this behavior directly mostly being responsible for never doing anything to actually rectify this issue like removing Shandale's mod status or removing them from the server for repeatedly saying shit like this (or doing anything similar to the other mods who have explicitly backed up their rhetoric). There's actually a good few people who will stand against the rhetoric thrown around, which is absolutely something to commend them for knowing that they could easily be banned (since, you know, the person that's saying this shit is someone who has banning privileges and is known to ban people for pretty innocuous shit).

It honestly must suck to be an average Edelgard fan in that server knowing that at pretty much any time there's a pretty damn good chance that one of the members - or mods! - will spout off blatantly racist shit and there's just. Nothing that will be done about it, ever, just cuz that person is friends with a mod or are a mod themselves. And in one of THE biggest spaces for Edelgard fans, at that! I hope they can eventually find a better place to love their fave in, since this one's such an unsalvageable garbage heap

It was cold in Whitestone, the air was crisp and snow blanketed the roofs on each house. Imogen hadn’t realized that the nipping air had turned her nose red until Ashton’s had draped a coat over her shoulders. Her eyes fixed on the tree that they had just travelled through.

“Your going to fucking freeze, come on Letters said they needed you for something.”

She nodded in acknowledgement but didn’t move from her place. She just stared at the branches, new growth and healed bark shined like a symbol of the city’s healing throughout the years. She was haunted by a phantom. Laudna’s body hanging, dangling from a fraying rope. 

She pictured what Delilah was doing with Laudna at that moment.

“I’ll take her with me,” she threatened, the voice of Delilah Briarwood was steeped with venom and malice. Imogen could only picture Delilah with her hand around Laudna’s neck and shoulders whispering in her ear with a wicked grin.

Then,Imogen suddenly felt her feet lift from the ground. And when she returned her focus to the present moment she was hoisted over Ashton’s shoulder.

“Hey! Hey! Ashton what the hell are you doing! Put me down,” she yelled.

Ashton simply yawned and kept walking towards the castle getting sizable punches to the back along the way. As they approached Fearne and Fcg were chatting with a guard at the front of the castle. 

It was hard to make out the words but Imogen could faintly hear inquiries as to where her location was. She tried to listen closer to the conversation as they approached but before she could hear anymore Ashton shouted.

“Found ‘er!”

Fcg and Fearne perked up and looked in their direction. Fearne immediately bolted towards them whilst Fcg said a quick farewell to the guard. Ashton had now transferred her into more of a princess carry situation as if they were presenting her to the group like a blanket or tapestry.

“Imogen,” Fearne exclaimed, she ran up to her.

Fearne immediately grabbed her hands feeling for the cold and seeing the red fingertips. Her face twisted with worry as Fcg rolled beside.

“You're freezing,” Fearne said, her hand gripping tightly around Imogen’s, “Ashton you should take her inside.”

Ashton went to salute but realized that he was still holding Imogen and stopped. They nodded and started marching into the castle. As he left he shouted for Fcg to let Orym know that they needed a quiet place to warm up.

Imogen hadn’t really gotten to explore the castle very much. Since they had arrived, Orym and Laudna’s body had been whisked away by a man with powder white hair and golden framed glasses and a woman with greyed dark brown hair, along with the Tempest and Chetney had gone with Orym just in case. Imogen hadn’t stayed in the castle for long, the tall chambers and bustling staff was just a bit too much for her to handle at that moment. As she took in all the high ceilings and paintings of children and family hung from the walls Ashton received a message from who Imogen could only guess was Fcg. Ashton marched her into a cozy living room with a roaring fire and sat her down on a plush sofa and slung a blanket onto her lap.

“Exandria to Imogen. Hey are you good,” Ashton inquired, their face cut with an underlying concern.

“Yeah, just kinda lost, I mean we’re back in Laudna’s hometown where you know she was- well- killed by that bitch. And we don’t even know if these people can save her and everyone in this fucking castle is just too much right now. I can hear it all Ashton, and I can’t turn it off,” Imogen sputtered, her breath increased into more gasping than breathing and tears started to pool in the corner of her eyes as she continued, “and it’s all my fault that Otohan came after us, and I know Fearne and Letters couldn’t do anything about it but why her. And that fucking bitch Delilah can’t do anything so what’s her use to us. And with us bringing Otohan to Estheross and Orym’s husband and his home. And Fearne’s parents and Fcg’s history and whatever the hell Chetney had going on and you and your memories. And why’d it have to be her? Why couldn’t it have been me, I dragged y’all into this and it’s my past and that fucking moon that are haunting me and-”

“Breathe,” Ashton commanded, Imogen hadn’t even noticed that they stood in front of her gripping her shoulders.

“Imogen you gotta breathe. I know it’s a lot right now but we are getting Laudna back and we’re fucking dealing with this bullshit moon fuckery but not if you fucking die from hypothermia or some shit. You and Fcg helped me out with my weird head shit and we’re all going to help you and Laudna and Orym and Fearne and Chet and Letters and Estheross. But you have to chill the fuck out.”

Ashton stared deep into her eyes with an intense sense of calm. Ashton was solid and real and didn’t scream their hatred in their head for her to hear, even though Imogen knew that he had plenty to be angry at the world for. Ashton trusted her enough to let her into their head. Ashton had listened when she had screamed at him to carry Laudna. They had saved her life on multiple occasions. She trusted him with her life. 

In that moment she just collapsed into Ashton for a comforting hug, the exhaustion of the whole Laudna-Otohan situation finally taking its physical toll. She had been afraid to sleep the last few nights, afraid that Ruidus and Otohan would haunt her dreams.

As she felt Ashton release her and set her head down on the cushion, “fuck I’m cold,” she shuttered.

“I’ll get us some food or something. Or maybe let Orym know so he can grab it. That one rich prick, Lord Percival de fuckface said we were free to help ourselves but I’ve been told I’m ‘abrasive’ and would ‘send a bad impression’. Like fuck Chetney your one to talk,” they said, a playful smile pushed through the tough stone exterior of Ashton.

“Thanks Ashton,” Imogen sighed, as she let herself melt into the heat of the room.
