But Zionists sought sovereignty over a land where other people lived. Their ambitions required not only the dispossession and removal of Palestinians in 1948 but also their forced exile, juridical erasure and denial that they ever existed.

This is why Palestine needs to be decolonised. The vast majority of Israeli citizens are this: they have these distorted hierarchical exclusivist violently genocidal beliefs and dispossession fantasies - that is what this ethno state is based on - and Palestine and the Palestinian people are not safe until they are genuinely free from this and these people. Forever.
Those Israeli citizens who believe in Palestinian equality should by definition understand that Israel must be dismantled for that equality to take place.

"Settlers have systematically tried to obscure the fact of dispossession in a number of different ways. Most prominent amongst the discursive strategies used has been the denial that they encountered Indigenous societies at all. Even when settlers recognised the presence of Indigenous peoples and societies, they argued that these were so primitive as to be virtually undifferentiated from the local fauna and flora, which in turn justified their subjugation, or even their elimination, by Europeans. ....This assertion was then used to justify unleashing great violence against the inhabitants of newly conquered lands, to kill them, subjugate them, and put them to work on the land and in the mines from which the empire grew rich. S
....
Nor were settlers in the Western Hemisphere alone in constructing such narratives, which are ubiquitous across the settler world – from Southern Africa where settlers claimed to have found empty lands that were later invaded by African populations, to Palestine where the Zionist movement talked about a ‘land without a people for a people without a land’. The so-called ‘Terra Nullius’ paradigm, which identified colonised lands as belonging to no one, formed a key justifying narrative for settler expansion around the globe. The claim of non-existing occupancy before ‘discovery’ was a central aspect when claiming ownership over land and removing the Indigenous peoples who inhabited it. The latter, turned into foreigners, migrants, or invaders, could then be fought ruthlessly by settlers in order to protect what was ‘rightfully’ theirs. In fact, this same principle remains central to denying Indigenous people the right to their land today. Settlers, of course, have always known these claims to be vacuous. This is clear given the energy they expounded in developing and imposing the necessary forms of violence and domination that made possible the conquest, displacement and/or exploitation of the same Indigenous people whom they claimed were absent.
....
Dispossession is central to the functioning of settler colonialism. At the most basic level, in order to claim the land to settle on, settlers must first take control of it and declare it their own.

Political + Spiritual Imperatives for the Future - Land as Kin
Through the process of colonization and extraction capitalism, ecologies were exploited and destroyed in tandem with Native communities. The colonizer notion that people are separate from and hold dominion over the land and ecologies is a farce, humans cannot survive without collection to the land, getting our food from the earth, and having connection with nature. Cara Page writes, “Our loss of land, bodies, practices, and memories is deeply seeded in the bones of colonialism and the blood of wars… If we listen to our memories of survival, we can remember what feeds us and the sacrifices our people have made,” pg 191. People of the global majority and especially Indigenous peoples have been dispossessed of land and non-human kin, in order to reconnect we need to uplift non-normative (i.e white, cisgender, able bodied, fit, middle class+ men) connections to nature that occur as inherently decolonial praxis. Attached is the essay “Bodies of Nature: The Environmental Politics of Disability'' by Alison Kafer, who asserts the need for dis/abled people to be imagined into our concept of nature and allowed the freedom to interact with nature in any and all ways they can. Oppressed peoples have been blocked from interacting with “pristine” nature and even participating in subsistence cultivation through overworking and redlining. What ideas/conceptions of nature do you want to leave behind?

Arms Embargo Now coalition needs widespread support:
Some of the initial signatories of the Arms Embargo Now coalition include the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association, the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE), Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Centre international de solidarité ouvrière (CISO), the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), Independent Jewish Voices, Labour Against the Arms Trade (LAAT), the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), and the Palestinian Youth Movement. A full arms embargo would halt the export of all Canadian military goods and technology to Israel — including by revoking existing export permits — and also end all Canadian purchases of Israeli military goods, including the Department of National Defence’s plan to buy $43 million of Spike missiles, as announced last December. Such an embargo would also prevent any Canadian military goods from reaching Israel via the United States. This includes Canadian-made components that are fitted into U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets, which the Israeli military has used to bomb Gaza.

ursula k le guin said sci fi/fantasy does not have to be about giant wars or battles of good and evil or galactic disaster; it is best served as a lens through which to examine what is actually intrinsic to the human condition and what, once removed a few layers from our own perceptions & assumptions, begins to fall apart. and she was correct.
